Robots Taking Over Construction?
Tumblr media
Construction is serious business. Historically, we have adapted many new technologies, to boost various processes in the industry. However, in construction, we have less chances of risks. It's not easy to do something, undo it, and redo it by another method. That would cost us a whole load of time, effort, money, and materials. The same of which, could have been saved for other important tasks. This has led us to one big problem. We're slow to adapt new technologies, and methods. We're hesitant, and we feel the need to be 100% sure any time we build something. The smallest of flaws could pose the biggest threats. If a new method arrives for something with risk, we're less likely to act upon it right away.
But today, we're moving towards the trend of digitalization. We know what works via our current methods, and we're very curious about how we can improve things further. Among the many things that come with digitalization, is the trend of using robots for numerous tasks.
Quite frankly, these construction robots are not perfect yet. But we're headed in the right direction, with their development. As they get matured and further enhanced, they can prove to be quite beneficial for the industry.
Two reasons companies should definitely consider investing in these  could be:
A robot can do the job with more precision
A robot would require less effort and time, to get more work done
The Types of Construction Robots
Different types of construction robots are designed for unique tasks. Many are being developed,  Some of them are as follows:
3-D Printing Robots
One of the main types, is 3D-printing robots. 3-D printing is one of the most popular applications to enter the construction industry. This technology can change the fundamental process of construction since it can accelerate production and reduce waste materials. It has the amazing capability of putting up building structures on demand.
Brick-Laying Robots
Another great type is brick-laying robots. They too improve the quality of the construction work.  Most of the bricklaying robots utilize arms of industrial robots to assemble the masonry structure of the building.  They're quite efficient, and are suitable for large construction projects with tight deadlines.
Drones
Drones too are quite popular in the field of construction. They're used for drone mapping, to generate 3-D models of construction sites. Plus, various other complicated tasks, such as contour construction, surveying, 3D scanning, transportation, etc.
Demolition Robots
How can we not talk about this one? These too have created a hype about themselves. Using robots for demolishing large structures and buildings can accelerate the demolition process. These robots are much safer and cheaper in demolishing concrete structures, than traditional demolition crews.
Autonomous Vehicles
When you hear "autonomous vehicles", you may assume self-driving cars. Same concept, bit different. Self-driving vehicles are also being developed today, to roll around on construction sites for various reasons. They can be used in combination with drones for better 3-D modelling, site surveillance, transportation of goods, and much more.
In Conclusion
These are great uses for robots in construction. But that brings us to the big questions. Will this end jobs for construction workers? If we adapt to these things, would it be harmful for the common man? These are great inventions for projects, but what impact will they have on a regular construction worker? Will robots eventually take over all of construction?
For the most part, you don't need to worry. As with most technology, these will only help the current workers improve their efficiency and effectiveness. Some tasks will of course be handed to the robots, but at least for now supervision too will play a huge part. Most of these robots are still going through changes and improvements. While they're efficient, they're also prone to error or malfunctioning. This is why it's important for workers to be present at the time of its use. Even perfected models, will need supervision. But they'll take some of the work load off workers and help manage time better. And in the future? As technology evolves, so does the requirement of human skills. Because only a trained professional can properly operate a complicated machine. Let's assume that in the future all work is done by robots. Even then, it will be a gradual process. Robots won't completely end jobs. But instead, as with all technology, they'll gradually change the requirements of a job. Today's construction worker is much different, from one that worked a century back. The job's still there. It's only the requirements of the job, that have changed with time.

The Use Of Drones in Construction - UAE
Tumblr media
Drones are quite a handy invention of the 21st century. We have seen many advancements in this technology, and even today more researches and experiments are being done to measure and improve their capabilities. There are many different applications for this one small device, that are being processed globally. One main feature of drones is photography. You can easily capture moments of big gatherings or a beautiful scenery, quite easily by flying a remote controlled camera drone over it. Nowadays, it's being used for media footage all around the world as well, and even for deliveries.
Today, you'll even find these devices flying around near construction sites. This might seem a little arbitrary, to some. But these are quite helpful for contractors and workers to keep track of things and get work done more efficiently.
But How Do Drones Help?
A typical project runs over budget, behind schedule. Drones help close the gap. They offer a safe alternative to one of the most critical phases of construction. Builders use drones to collect real-time data about projects, as they can hover even around remote and risky spots to gather clips of the construction site. This helps them better understand what’s happening on site. Aerial insights improve progress tracking and help catch problems early on as well. Project managers are leading the charge to bring drones to the job site.
Drone software systems can provide convenient and time saving desk top or mobile device access to job site conditions and help facilitate rapid assessment and response to developments in the field.  In addition to GPS and high resolution cameras, drones can be equipped with advanced technologies, such as LiDAR (remote sensing pulsed laser to detect objects and measure distances), or thermal, moisture, or gas sensors. With the right software, users can integrate imagery and data into CAD, BIM or other 3D models or use drones in conjunction with other tools, such as land based 3-D laser surveying and equipment and inventory tracking devices.  After the construction project is completed, the imagery can be useful to construction counsel in post-project dispute resolution and for owners to promote sales and leasing of the completed project.
How Do They Fare In The Emirates?
The use of drones is quite simple, and straight forward. The advantages, also laid out straight. But these Unmanned Aerial Vehicles aren't just a convenience for us, but can also be used for assistance in wrong-doings. It's a complicated matter that can be summarised into these few points:
Drones shouldn't be used to invade others' privacy
Drones shouldn't be flown over sensitive government areas
Drones should be kept out of no-fly zones
There's obviously a much detailed pattern to it. But this is a very simplified gist of the responsibilities that come, with operating the device. On the surface, it's just a harmless tool. But in the wrong hands, it can also prove to be a potentially invasive menace. This is why there was a need for regulations regarding the use of such devices, on construction sites and elsewhere.
It is important that construction lawyers become familiar with the use of drones, contracting and insurance considerations when drones are to be used on projects, and how data generated by drones can be used by counsel to prove or disprove construction claims.
The General Civil Aviation Authority regulates civil aviation in the Emirates. They've applied a bunch of rules and regulations for the better use of drones around the country. There's licensing, registration, no-fly zones, and other related matters, that have been layed out by the GCAA. Following are some of the things you should adhere to for using drones in the UAE:
Make sure to avoid all no-fly zones, like airports and residential areas.
Get a no-objection certificate from the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (if you plan on using a drone in Dubai)
Register your drone to get an ESMA certificate
You can find the complete guidelines for flying drones in the UAE, at the government's official website. There are more details there, that can surely help you better understand what to do and what to avoid.

How to Protect Your Workplace From ESD
Tumblr media
ESD (or Electro Static Discharge) can do some serious damage. It is a result of the buildup of electrostatic charge on your body or clothing. The ESD occurs when differently-charged objects are brought close together or when the dielectric between them breaks down, often creating a visible spark. Electrostatic discharges can damage an electronic component at any stage of its production or application if not controlled.
Preventing ESD
ESD can harm electronic components in your device so precautions should be taken before installing any options such as memory, hard disk, etc. Careless handling of electronics is the primary reason for ESD-related failures. ESD can occur in many environments relating to the electronics industry through either Tribocharging or Electrostatic induction. Hence, there's a need to protect ESD sensitive items.
All electronic components or ESD sensitive items should be kept in their antistatic container or packaging at all times during storage or transportation, until they're ready for installation. Before handling any sensitive electronic option or component, ESD wrist straps should be used. These straps should be in direct contact with the user's skin. If they're unavailable, operators should first touch a grounded metal object in order to discharge themselves.
How We Can Help
MBT (Modern Building Technologies Technical Services) offers excellent flooring solutions, for all environments. MBT is passionate about solutions that make a difference. This can be for hospitals, commercial & residential areas, schools, sports clubs, and more, in the UAE.
Among the many flooring variants that we provide, are anti-static flooring solutions. These offer protection against electrostatic discharge. This is useful for many industries. These floors lead electro-static discharge into the ground. This creates a safe environment for static-sensitive machinery and equipment. Therefore, this type of flooring is often used in hospitals, communication centres and computer rooms.
There are two main categories we provide for this:
Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl flooring is a synthetic flooring material. It’s durable, affordable and easy to install. One major advantage of vinyl flooring, is its water resistance. If installed properly, it’s completely waterproof. Vinyl is commonly confused with other types of flooring such as linoleum and laminate flooring. Both of those options, also have their perks. But neither is waterproof, as is vinyl flooring.
Epoxy Flooring
Today, epoxy flooring is a standard trend in industrial and commercial buildings. The name comes from its basic components, the epoxy resins. This flooring is commonly used over concrete subfloors. It gives a regular concrete floor, the glossy look that makes it look elegant and attractive. This is another durable option. It’s designed to endure high traffic, and heavy loads, for a long period.
Why work with MBT?
We have worked with numerous reputable organizations, all over the UAE and beyond. Over the years, we’ve gathered ample experience via numerous projects.  So, you know you can trust us with your work. No sweat.

Self Healing Materials - The Way Forward
Tumblr media
Self-healing materials aren't a completely new concept. But to this day, the term "self-healing" feels like something out of the blue. It seems like an impossible feat for a material to regenerate or "heal", without the interference of external elements. But we're slowly making progress, and getting somewhere with this technology now.
In general, building materials would degrade over time, due to microscopic damage that's hard to detect early-on. But self-healing materials have the ability to initiate repairs and prevent damage on the microscopic level, before it spreads and becomes a bigger issue. They're smart materials, which are capable of autonomous/spontaneous or stimulated repair of their damage under external stimuli, such as heat, light, and solvents, without external or human involvement. The process of self-healing is made possible by the materials added. This can be applied to virtually any material group.
Self-Healing Process
1. First of all, a material will be damaged.
2. Then, the material must detect where the damage is located.
3. The repair is carried out: a chemical reaction creates material or original bonds are recovering.
The industry that's most focused on the use of such materials, is of course the construction industry. We need the latest and greatest in terms of technology, materials, and planning, to improve how we do things and how we can go forward. Structural builds are difficult and time consuming to construct. For bigger projects the total cost of each project isn't low either, and the demand of large and tall structures increases all the time. Lastly, within the last decade or so there has been more construction than ever before. So the need for sturdy long lasting materials, is at an all time high today. There have been uses of self-healing material on smaller levels as well, such as back covers for phones. That too is an interesting approach. But while there it's a possibility, here it's a requirement of the time. You can always buy a new phone, but you can't always make a new building.
Self Healing Concrete
The most relevant element among self-healing products for this industry, is self-healing concrete. Most construction work is done with the concrete, and while traditional concrete is sturdy and long lasting, we now need even more sturdiness and durability. The structures built a few decades are small fry, compared to what we aim to achieve in the future.
Concrete is susceptible to cracks that can compromise the entire structure of a building. If cracks aren't caught and filled while they're small, it can lead to catastrophic damages. If micro-cracks grow and reach the reinforcement, they allow the ingress of water, carbon dioxide and chlorine ions into the structure. Therefore, cracks have to be repaired, but this is expensive and the labor is intensive. Concrete is solid, durable, easy to mass produce, easy to maintain, but the costs involved for maintenance and repair of concrete structures are usually high.
But this problem can be deterred, by the use of self-healing concrete. Self-healing of cracks in concrete would contribute to a longer service life of concrete structures and would make the material not only more durable but also more sustainable. It gives us the ability to construct buildings without worrying about damages or intensive maintenance. Self-healing concrete will save both lives and resources, and significantly reduce life cycle carbon emissions. It will biologically produce minerals like limestone with the help of bacteria present in it, which will heal cracks that appear on the concrete surfaces.
Where Do We Stand So Far?
According to a 2017 report posted on MARKETS AND MARKETS,
"The global self-healing materials market was valued at USD 49.8 million in 2015 and is projected to reach USD 2,447.7 million by 2021, registering a CAGR of 95.0% between 2016 and 2021"
We're now near the end of 2020, and material scientists are closer than ever to reproducing this ability in everyday materials, which would hail in a new era in civil engineering and construction. Cost-reduction through the development of cheaper versions of self-healing concrete would help raise the consumption of the product and enable wider distribution of the benefits associated with it. The benefits for larger structures, especially the underground ones, are significant.
Researchers globally have been striving to create the most viable solutions for self-healing. Many materials are being tested and experimented on, and there are already multiple methods for us to go forward. Within the scope of this discussion, there's also series of international conferences being held recently. These conferences will take place in different parts of the world, and focused around Self-Healing Materials and Construction Materials.
These are scheduled to be a series of events, spread out over the course of two years. Starting from the December of 2020 and continuing onwards till the December of 2022. According to the information on World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology, there are 9 events in total.
Three of these conferences are to held in Dubai on the following months:
- December, 2020
- July, 2021
- July, 2022
These events are meant to be a collaborative effort towards finding the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in the fields of Self-Healing Materials and Construction Materials Conference.

The Different Types Of Commercial Wooden Doors
Tumblr media
As a business owner, you need to be smart about what doors you opt for. You have to think about all the various choices and their ups and downs. From style, to maintenance, to lifespan, there's a lot to think about.
But with Wooden doors, is that really a big problem? Wooden doors are some of the most elegant, low maintenance, and highly durable doors out there. They're great for both external and internal use. There are so many benefits to going for them, such as:
They're quite low-maintenance.
They can look good with all environments
They're good insulators of heat
They don't rust or corrode, unlike metal doors
They're rather elegant
These last life-times
Now among wooden doors as well, there's a number of commercial and residential uses. So there's a variety of options among those as well, for you to pick per your requirements.
Following are some of the Wooden Doors you can make use of, for your business:
Panelled Wooden Doors
Along with the battened and ledged door style, panelled doors are among the classic designs for wooden doors. This style can have a model that can resemble one or more panels grooved on it.
The great thing about paneled doors is that they can work for all types of environments. If you have a narrow opening such as for passage doors, you can have a single leaf panel one. For wider cases, you can use a double leaf design instead.
These solid core panel doors are specifically for interior commercial applications with taller bottom rails and wider stiles to accommodate commercial hardware. Doors satisfy ADA requirements, making them a popular choice for hotels. MDF faces provide a smoother surface than natural wood for easy painting and offer durability with low maintenance.
Wooden Doors with Glass
Commercial wood doors with lite kits and glass (or windows) not only provide light to a room, they ensure safety, too. Doors with lites, provide safety for well-traveled corridor doors, allowing to see if others are entering the room.
We have several different glass options for our commercial wood doors such as tempered glass, wire glass, insulated glass and fire rated clear glass for rated doors. These are the perfect options for providing extra light in a dark room with no exterior windows, and providing a level of security to see outside of the opening. Build a quote now to see what we offer and get instant pricing on all of our products.
Wooden Louvered Doors
This door style offers excellent ventilation as well as providing privacy at the same time. Most businesses opt for a wooden door that’s partially louvered. Along with hollow-core doors, companies use louvered doors for restrooms.
Commercial wood doors with louvers (or door vents) provide air ventilation between rooms or inside of closets. Louvered doors help ventilate rooms when closed while still providing privacy and security. Louvers are often found inside of restroom and electrical or mechanical closet doors.
Laminated Core Flush Doors
You can never go wrong with laminated core flush doors. Using fine-grain patterns of wood veneer, these doors work well for both exterior and interior usage. Solid-core doors provide a premium option to business owners by granting them a door that brings all the benefits a wooden door has, without bringing the drawbacks.
One of the greatest pros this door has is the fact that it’s one of the most fire-resistant options out there. Additionally, they are much affordable compared to solid wood doors. Lastly, this style resists quite well humidity changes, so there’s no need to worry about the door expanding or contracting.
Fire-Rated Wooden Doors
Architectural grade wood fire doors control the spread of fire and smoke for up to 1-1/2 hours (90 Minutes). Fire-Rated wood doors are available in a variety of veneers, styles and sizes. Fire doors often are used on openings leading from corridors to offices, closets, storage rooms, stairwells, mechanical rooms or any other opening that penetrates a fire barrier wall.
CDF offers the best value in the industry on our solid core commercial wood doors. Our stock particle core wood doors can be fire rated up to 20 minutes. We also keep hundreds of unfinished and clear pre-finished doors in stock ready to ship. Special hinge or lock location is not a problem for us because we machine all of our wood doors to order so you don’t have to wait. If you need it now let us know CDF is the first and only source for quick ship wood doors.
Bi-Fold Wooden Doors
Wooden bifold doors are a great option when looking for a way to incorporate an adjustable wall without all the hassle of building one. You can opt for a full wooden bifold door, or a more transparent one using glass for the door itself and wood for the door’s frames.
Bifold doors work great for the hotel industry and even restaurants, believe it or not. They’re perfect for any rooms that count on spacious balconies or lobbies that extend to outer decks.

The Rise Of BIM In The UAE
Tumblr media
BIM or Building Information Modelling is a revolutionary software solution. From planning to design, to on-site construction, to the completion of the project, and beyond; BIM is there to assist you the whole way. This modelling software is used to make comprehensive building models, that provide various tools to industry professionals for the better design, construction and planning of buildings and infrastructures.
It's also an efficient solution for showcasing design options by attractive and detailed visual representations; which can be used for giving stakeholders and investors a better idea and clearer picture of what's to be (or is being) done.
In the western world, BIM management has been a thing for a while now. In the UAE, the idea of using it is still setting. But there are many advantages to BIM, that such organisations should consider. So, let's get to understanding how using BIM will facilitate you.
The Uses Of BIM:
Technology in all its forms is a way forward for us. This goes for all of technology. Many industries have thrived, by taking leaps in evolving their tools and techniques with technological advancements. Even in the construction industry, you'll see many things that increase the management, safety, health, and quality practices around a project and the workers involved. BIM is no exception to the boons. It helps you throughout the following phases of construction:
It creates realistic model environments, by the combination of real world data and reality capture to ensure a more effective planning cycle for the design and implementation of your project.
You can create designs, analyze, work on the details and documentations, and pretty much the whole preconstruction process is facilitated by the use of BIM.
During this phase, fabrication begins using BIM specifications. Project construction logistics are shared with trades and contractors to ensure optimum timing and efficiency
BIM data carries over to operations and maintenance of finished assets. BIM data can be used down the road for cost-effective renovation or efficient deconstruction too.
The Advantages of BIM:
You may understand now the why's of its use, but also ponder the how's. Let's now see the ways that Building Information Modelling helps:
1. Project Visualization
Project visualization is a big part of the whole process. You can't do that on 2D Paper. But BIM can help you share project plans with 3D visuals earlier on with your stake holders. Clients get a better understanding of what they're paying for, and you can still make necessary big and small changes before you start any physical work.
2. Clash Detection
There's always a possibility of different departs clashing with each other. This puts the project in an awkward condition, where you have to face set-backs and re-dos. The probability of this happening increases by a lot on bigger projects, involving larger teams and a huge amount of people. BIM can help you avoid any situations like, by automatically detecting he possibilty of a clash anywhere within the project. All the departs can retain better co-ordination, and this way you can better avoid reworks and plan ahead.
3. Effective Collaboration
BIM helps people collaborate and share ideas and concepts, within a single project model. People from different areas of work could add in their input and teams can better communicate the requirements of the projects. Being a digital platform, the process is seemless. So reviewing, modifying and suggesting changes to the project models has become that much easier.
4. Model-Based Cost Estimation
Whenever you start work on a new project, there's a need to evaluate the costs and expenditures. That helps both you, and the stakeholders, better evaluate your position on the project and where you need to go from that point. BIM tools do the cost estimation for you. This saves you a lot of time, and gives you an effective estimate earlier on.
5. Safety of Workers
It increases the safety conditions of workers, and helps avoid hazards beforehand. You can do visual safety evaluation through BIM and plan ahead for the proper planning of the health and safety of your teams and workers.
6. Productivity and Prefabrication
BIM data can be used to instantly generate production drawings or databases for manufacturing purposes, allowing for increased use of prefabrication and modular construction technology. By designing, detailing and building offsite in a controlled environment, you can diminish waste, increase efficiency, and reduce labor and material costs.
7. Cost Reduction and Risk Migitation
Another undeniable benefit of BIM is reduction in project costs. With its facility for better co-ordination, reduced waste, and proper documentation, you can save up on a lot of small and heavy costs that would add up to a significant increase in the overall project cost. The same facilities also ensure a better failsafe against risks. A digital project coordinated plan gives you an upperhand over all risk factors and helps you negate them before you even hit the shovel.
BIM in the Emirates Right Now
The government too has been taking steps in regularizing and mandating the involvement of BIM within construction projects. They too, see this as a growing requirement, and the step forward towards the future of the industry. Some companies and contractors do hesitate at the thought of leaving traditional ways, and adapting new ways. But if you want to stay in the race of life, you have to keep upgrading yourself. Why just stay just stay in the race even, why not lead? This, and many other technologies of the digital era are just waiting for you to take advantage of them, and excel at what you do.
In recent years, there have been events such as the BIM Middle East 2020 event, last month. The UAE construction industry encounters several problems as delays and cost overruns. But with the adaption of Building Information Modeling (BIM) solutions is expected to enhance performance and profitability for the industry. Mandating had started back in 2013 with Dubai. Since then, all states have been slowly moving towards BIM mandation. This is a great step for the further development of the UAE, and adapting BIM will help us (the construction industry) make the development easier, quicker, and more advanced than ever before.

Artificial Intelligence in the Construction Industry
Tumblr media
The construction industry is a major sector of the world economy. Artificial intelligence (AI) has a lot of potential in the construction industry. AI solutions that have made an impact in other industries are beginning to emerge in the construction industry. It's beginning to change the way buildings are designed, constructed and utilised after construction. The technology combination of IoT and AI will change construction for the long term with new business opportunities.
Following are 10 methods incorporated with AI, to help us improve construction, and further develop the processes involved:
1. Boosting project monitoring and risk management
E&C stakeholders can use neural networks, using drone-generated images and laser generated data capturing project progress, to teach an AI how to create 3-D “twin models” to match BIM-generated models. These applications would dramatically reduce decision-making cycles in a construction project from a monthly basis to a daily basis—through full automation of the project scheduling and budgeting update on the combination of BIM, AI, drone, and laser capabilities.
2. AI Will Address Labor Shortages
Labor shortage and a desire to boost the industry’s low productivity are compelling construction firms to invest in AI and data science. Construction companies are starting to use AI and machine learning to better plan for distribution of labor and machinery across jobs. A robot constantly evaluating job progress and the location of workers and equipment enables project managers to tell instantly which job sites have enough workers and equipment to complete the project on schedule, and which might be falling behind where additional labor could be deployed. Experts expect construction robots to become more intelligent and autonomous with AI techniques.
3. Project Planning
AI database systems are now helping to inform engineers on how specific projects should be constructed. For example, if engineers were working on a proposed new bridge, AI systems would be able to advise and present a case for how the bridge should be constructed. This is based on past projects over the last 50 years, as well as verifying pre-existing blueprints for the design and implementation stages of the project. By having this information to hand, engineers can make crucial decisions based on evidence that they may not have previously had at their disposal.
4. AI Will Make Jobsites More Productive
AI is being used to manage the project and control tasks. For example, workers can input sick days, vacancies and sudden departures into a data system and it will adapt the project accordingly. The AI will understand that the task must be moved to another employee and will do so on its own accord. There are companies that are starting to offer self-driving construction machinery to perform repetitive tasks more efficiently than their human counterparts, such as pouring concrete, bricklaying, welding, and demolition. Excavation and prep work is being performed by autonomous or semi-autonomous bulldozers, which can prepare a job site with the help of a human programmer to exact specifications.
5. Prevent cost overruns
Most mega projects  go over budget despite employing the best project teams. Artificial Neural Networks are used on projects to predict cost overruns based on factors such as project size, contract type and the competence level of project managers. Historical data such as planned start and end dates are used by predictive models to envision realistic timelines for future projects. AI helps staff remotely access real-life training material which helps them enhance their skills and knowledge quickly. This reduces the time taken to onboard new resources onto projects. As a result, project delivery is expedited.
6. AI for Construction Safety
Construction workers are killed on the job five times more often than other laborers. According to OSHA, the leading causes of private sector deaths (excluding highway collisions) in the construction industry were falls, followed by struck by an object, electrocution, and caught-in/between. A Boston-based General Contractor with annual sales of $3 Billion is developing an algorithm that analyzes photos from its job sites, scans them for safety hazards such as workers not wearing protective equipment and correlates the images with its accident records. The company says it can potentially compute risk ratings for projects so safety briefings can be held when an elevated threat is detected.
7. AI and Big Data in Construction
At a time when a massive amount of data is being created every day, AI Systems are exposed to an endless amount of data to learn from and improve every day.  Every job site becomes a potential data source for AI. Data generated from images captured from mobile devices, drone videos, security sensors, building information modeling (BIM), and others have become a pool of information. This presents an opportunity for construction industry professionals and customers to analyze and benefit from the insights generated from the data with the help of AI and machine learning systems.
8. Off-site Construction
Construction companies are increasingly relying on off-site factories staffed by autonomous robots that piece together components of a building, which are then pieced together by human workers on-site. Structures like walls can be completed assembly-line style by autonomous machinery more efficiently than their human counterparts, leaving human workers to finish the detail work like Plumbing, HVAC and Electrical systems when the structure is fitted together.
10. Post-Construction
Once buildings have been constructed, whether they are used for commercial purposes or it is a development of new houses, AI systems can be used inside the structure. In the US alone, $1.5 billion was invested in 2016 by companies looking to capitalise on this growing market.AI can be used to monitor developing problems and even offers solutions to prevent problems.

Why Wooden Floors Are So Evergreen
Tumblr media
Wood is a common choice as a flooring material. Wooden Flooring is exactly what the name says it is; i.e. any flooring solution that's made from wood. Our floors are showpieces in themselves. Wood flooring adds a natural charm to any room. There are many other flooring types competing in the market. However, wood floors are still quite common and popular. They add natural beauty and timeless style to any decor.
Hardwood flooring is an environmentally sound choice to make.  You can drastically reduce your carbon footprint by using wood as a building material rather than other manmade products.
Following are some of the reasons why it's always remained a popular choice for consumers:
Appearance:
It’s in our nature to love trees, and Wood flooring adds a natural charm to any room.  You can choose between oiled or lacquered finishes, brushed or smooth surfaces. There are more choices now than ever before. Hardwood always looks invitingly warm and beautiful.
Durability:
Wood is a naturally durable and tough material. A timber floor can significantly out live most other types of flooring.  Its high density levels that make it less vulnerable to scratches and dents. Wood floors are extremely durable and can look beautiful for decades.
Easy Remake:
Wood floors can be refinished instead of adding to the landfill. A maintenance coat is recommended every 5 years or so, to prolong the life of hardwood floors. But even slightly damaged floors, can be sanded backed into shape.
Temperature and sound regulator:
Wood is a natural insulator, helping to keep heat in when it is cold and the house cool when it is hot.  It is also a fibrous material helping absorb sound.
Added Value:
Real wood floors offer beauty for a lifetime. Hardwood flooring will add value to any property making it a good investment.  This is because there is no depreciation on a wood floor. Meanwhile a hardwood floor can go 25 years or more on it's original factory finish. Thus, wood floors cost less long term and add value to your home. Installing wood floors can increase the appeal and market value.
Maintenance and Cleaning:
Wood doesn’t trap dust and fumes like carpet. So, cleaning hardwood is easy. If the floor is maintained well, the typical surface finish will last 25 years or longer. Regular sweeping or vacuuming is all it takes to maintain any wood floors. You can essentially clean your wood floors in less than half the time, compared to other solutions.
Allergies and Health:
Wood floors in the bedroom and other main living areas, can improve air quality. Doctors often recommend hardwood flooring to asthma and allergy patients. Wood is the floor of choice for anyone with allergies. This solution also prevents slips and falls better. Plus, parasites like fleas cannot lurk and lay eggs in wood flooring.
Eco Friendliness:
Wood sends less solid waste to the landfill, than manufacturing steel or concrete. The long life of wood flooring also means less wasting of replacement materials. Wood production is much cleaner than other building materials. As a sustainable and natural substance, wood is an environmentally friendly choice that helps to insulate the home and lower energy bills.

The Evolution Of Construction With Technology
Tumblr media
Construction is one of the biggest industries today. The UAE especially, is a trend-setter for the world in terms of construction. We have created some of the greatest modern man-made structures. This industry gives a country so much, in long term value. From infrastructures to residential homes; from apartment buildings to commercial ones; from hotels to tourism spots; we are responsible for the imagination and delivery of the best.
Technology has helped us along the way. Every industry whether big or small, goes through changes and advancement. One of the biggest roles in this, is played by technology. As we move forward, we adapt newer and better ways to overcome challenges. We improvise and create new methods for efficiency and effectiveness. From the beginning of time to the 21st century, we have come a long way.
All these new machines and devices, help us build much better. So much so that today we have made monumental structures; in numbers that history has never seen, and at sizes that were historically unimaginable.
5 Ways We Are Moving Forward With Technology
A shift from the physical to the digital world is extremely beneficial for the construction industry. Digital technology has affected a great number of industries across the globe. With the passage of time, construction industry has also passed through advancements. The era of digitalisation has finally reached contractors and their businesses. There’s never been a more exciting time to be a part of this industry. Progress in technology has introduced successful techniques to develop strong and long lasting buildings. Things like robot workers to 3D printed houses have become a reality so quickly that we might not have realized it. The construction industry has a vast potential, and companies should focus on implementing digitalisation, innovative technologies, and new construction techniques
Following are some of the ways, we see the construction industry going forward with Digital Technology:
1. Mobile Technology
Tumblr media
Today, there are software and mobile solutions to help manage every aspect of a construction project. Mobile technology allows for real-time data collection and transmission between the jobsite and project managers in the back office. For companies that genuinely want to empower their people to make the most informed decisions possible, connected construction is the answer. Special apps can also help schedule work, manage and report it back to the main office.  When data, workflows, and technology connect, they’re all the more powerful. Connected construction equates to integrated and connected data, workflows, and technology. This solution is extremely time-efficient, and can really help businesses thrive on a bigger level.
2. Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Tumblr media
Predictive analytics is quickly establishing its foothold in the construction industry. Predictive analytics and machine learning are especially valuable in today’s world of complex construction projects and operations. These predictions can then be used to make more informed decisions and strategize next moves. AI and machine learning proved their usefulness in the construction industry, by turning years of collected data into predictions. This information also gives workers the freedom to focus on higher-value activities that are more likely to move the needle. Algorithms used by AI reports all errors occurring on the construction site as it is able to recognise different building by their shape, size, and location. All in all you can you say AI has a multitude of applications in the construction space, that can speed up planning and make entire operations faster and more efficient.
3. Building Information Modeling (BIM)
Tumblr media
BIM(Building Information Modeling) allows stakeholders and suppliers to more effectively plan, design, build and manage a building and its infrastructure. BIM software allows a construction manager to create an intelligent 3D model of a project. It utilizes IoT and AR technologies in order to generate smart management and workflow planning tools. A common practice is combining virtual reality and augmented reality with BIM to achieve greater results and efficiency. 3D models are much better and depict the reality in a way it never did before. In addition to this, by implementing prefabricated technologies, developers can avail of benefits such as site safety, waste reduction, improved air quality, and quality management. It provides an elevated construction experience at all stages, from planning and design all the way to building maintenance.
4. Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR)
Tumblr media
To date, architects and design teams have significantly improved building design through interactive design and gesture interaction. Where VR is a strictly digital experience, augmented reality is the application of VR technology in real-world scenarios. VR immerses us completely into the digital world, while AR brings digital elements to our surroundings in real time. Virtual reality is commonly used to train workers and augmented reality helps prevent possible hazards. These technologies help ensure ongoing reporting of the building, and allow customers to study projects before construction begins. Whereas, immersive reality combines these two realms into one world, and provides us the ability to work on projects remotely through an immersive design experience. Buildings are becoming more complex, and these technologies help architects and construction teams improve projects and identify design errors.
5. 3D Printing
Tumblr media
The way houses are constructed is changing, making it much more affordable for anyone to purchase a home. More and more companies are starting up in the sector to create new, innovative projects. 3D printing's future is bright moving forward, as the technology moves from a novelty to an emerging industry standard. As companies look for ways to improve quality control, address skilled labor shortages, and explore more intricate designs, 3D printing will be here to help them make it a success. 3D printing has come a long way in such a short amount of time, to the point that construction companies are now able to print out an entire home faster and cheaper than the traditional method. Yes, that's right. Today it's possible to 3D print an entire house. What a time to be alive.

3 Reasons For Installing Commercial Entrance Mats
Tumblr media
Entrance mats are a great modern-day commodity. They placed at entrances to stop dirt and moisture right there. They can be used, on buildings and houses alike. They're also perfect at absorbing moisture. And by reducing both, dirt and moisture, they protect the inner floors and add longevity to their lifespan. There are many design patterns among these. So naturally, they add a hint of style to doorways as well.
Commercial entrance mats are usually installed inside or outside the main doorway of a commercial building. From safety enhancement to bacteria control and branding, the benefits of installing commercial floor mats are numerous and advantageous for businesses of all industries. There are many different types of commercial floor mats, that cover different purposes.
Today, at MBT, we'll be listing down 3 main reasons why you should install entrance mats for your business(/commercial) buildings.
1 - Ease of Cleaning and Maintenance
Firstly, they're great for cleanliness, and maintenace. Commercial floor mats are incredibly effective in controlling the accumulation of dirt, moisture, and other debris.  While dirt control enhances visitor safety, it also serves a larger function by creating a clean and professional looking workspace.  This helps businesses make a positive first impression with their guests, conveying that ideals of cleanliness, meticulousness, and professionalism are top priorities. Entrance mats can be a long-lasting and low-maintenance way of dealing with the upkeep of your building’s interior.
It will also mean that your flooring needs replacing less often which will give you more funds in your maintenance budget for other jobs or projects.
2 - Reduced Accidental Slips and Falls
Secondly, they're quite beneficial for worker safety. One of the main advantages of installing commercial entrance floor mats is to ensure the safety of all human traffic using the building. Slips and trips are common at the best of times, but when shoes are wet, or lack grip, people are even more likely to have an accident when they enter a commercial building, particularly if it has a smooth and shiny floor. An entrance mat can make floors safer by providing a textured surface to walk on and by removing anything that could cause a potential hazard from an individual’s shoes.
Commercial and industrial mats can also be anti-fatigue which will reduce your employee fatigue and strain, leading to less accidents and errors.
3 - Added Benefit of Branding
Lastly, commercial mats are a great way of subtle branding. Whether your company is big or small, using an entrance mat as a means of branding can be effective and really make a strong impression on visitors. most commercial entrance floor mats bear the logo of the company on their topsides. These types of entrance floor mats are appropriately referred to as logo mats. The branding helps to direct customers towards your business premises.
In fact, Commercial floor matting may also be used to communicate a number of different messages to visitors. Custom Logo Mats, for example, may be placed in entryways, elevator lobbies, and reception areas to deliver branding messages to guests.
Why Else Should You Opt for Commercial Mats?
So those were 3 of the main reasons for installing commercial mats. But there's other reaons as well.
Enhances Professional Entrance
The entrance mat will be the first thing that people see when they visit your commercial building. A good quality entry mat can add a feeling of professionalism, warmth and welcoming to those who visit. Regardless of the nature of your commercial property, the opportunity to add a feeling of comfort can be invaluable. There are plenty of colours and styles available, so you can choose something that looks great with the wall colours, or select a neutral option which will be a perfect fit for any setting.
Made to Last
Commercial mats are designed to last long. Commercial entrance floor mats are produced from a tougher material than residential entrance floor mats. They're especially made with the ability to withstand mildew, mold, and moisture as well. Hence creating the right effect and lasting durability, for your building entryway. They're also used as a method of protecting floor surfaces, simply by serving as a buffer between the floor and the falling object. Some commercial mats are capable of absorbing the shock of a falling object, thereby reducing the force exerted directly into the surface of the floor. This reduces the likelihood of damage to the floor surface and preserves its original appearance.
Conclusion:
This was a brief article on the uses of commercial mats. To conclude, commericla mats:
- Effectively reduce the amount of building maintenance which needs to be carried out, as well as daily cleaning.
- Ensurs that the environment is as safe as possible, preventing slips, trips and falls on hard surfaces.
- Can also be used to communicate any kind of business promotion or advertisement.
With these benefits of entrance mats in commercial buildings it is easy to see why companies turn to this option when they are looking to purchase a safe and cost-effective solution for their entrance.

Why to Use Laminate Flooring?
Tumblr media
Laminate is a synthetic multi-layer floor that’s fused together in a lamination process. Laminate flooring simulates wood (or sometimes stone) with a photographic applique layer under a clear protective layer. This top-most surface layer is a hard transparent type of plastic sheet that is impervious to dogs, chairs, high heels, and other common damaging elements. It’s also easy to install. It snaps together with tongue and groove, unlike traditional wood flooring that requires professional installation. It has the look, feel, and durability of wood flooring, combined with the waterproof and low maintenance aspects of vinyl flooring.
Why To Use Laminate Flooring?
It has the look, feel, and durability of wood flooring, combined with the waterproof and low maintenance aspects of vinyl flooring. The material has plenty of alluring features that will easily convince you to consider it as a top choice for flooring. Here’s what you need to know.
1) High Durability
The construction of laminate makes it ultra-durable. The wear layer of laminate floor is extremely tough. It’s great for high traffic areas and houses. Laminate flooring can even be more stable than hardwood. You can walk on laminate flooring without fear of scratching. With an aluminum oxide top coating, laminate flooring holds up to scratches, dents, fading and stains.
2) Easy Installation
It’s so easy to install, most people can do it themselves. Installation is a simple matter of laying a foam underlayment, then joining rows of planks edge-to-edge across the floor. Snap-together laminate flooring also eliminates the need for VOC-releasing glues. Plus, Laminate can be floated over most existing floors. You can lay down hundreds of square feet in one weekend. A professional crew can lay down a room in an hour or so.
3) Affordability
Laminate flooring one of the most inexpensive of all flooring materials. The price benefits of laminate flooring give you a realistic hardwood or tile look, without breaking the bank. Laminate can provide you with the look of hardwood or tile at a fraction of the cost. Laminate flooring is less expensive than traditional hardwood, but doesn’t fall short when it comes to look and quality.  Many very good laminates can be found in affordable price ranges.
4) Cleaning and Maintenance
Laminate is a pretty easy surface to keep looking great. It's easier to keep clean than carpeting or tiled floors. Normal maintenance of vacuuming or sweeping will keep your flooring looking great daily. There are no special cleaners needed to keep a laminate floor in top shape. No floor waxing is ever necessary either. Laminate flooring’s moisture and stain resistant surface makes cleaning spills easy.
5) Eco-Friendliness
With less trash and waste, laminate is an eco-friendly floor.  It is easy to install and easy to take it into parts and reinstall it again. Laminate is made out of wood, which means that it can be recycled. This makes laminate flooring a perfect reusable material. Laminate manufacturers also have environmentally friendly practices that help protect the environment.
6) Appearance
Laminate is available in a variety of colors, styles, and textures. Older technology made laminate flooring appear fake when it tried to mimic the look of natural materials. But today, laminate flooring can faithfully reproduce the look of wood, stone, and other natural materials. Newer technology has made it better at mimicking conventional species of wood like oak, birch, maple, and cherry. There are no defects in laminate flooring. This has helped developed products with greater surface texture and visual appeal.
Conclusion:
Hopefully, you got something out of that article about laminates. Now, to sum it up, following are the few reasons why you should go for laminate floors:
Laminate floors are durable enough to last for generations
Installation for laminate flooring is basically a snap
Laminate floors cost far less than hard wood floors
They are quite easy to clean and maintain
They come in a Wide Variety of Colors and Textures
They can be easily uninstalled, and reused.
We do however recommend expert guidance, before moving along with a plan. Each project is different, whether personal or professional, and every step needs to be planned properly for everything to fall in place perfectly.

UAE - Stepping into 2021
Tumblr media
Today at MBT, we'll be taking a walk through the previous months in time. Taken the world by storm, the novel corona virus has completely altered our lives. In the beginning, we didn't even have too many hopes of turning back to normal. But today, as we head towards its probable end, along with the rise of the second wave, let's go through how the virus spread; how it impacts our today, and what we can expect in the coming year.
The Chaos Begins
Tumblr media
December 2020; a viral disease starts spreading in a single city. From there onwards, it starts spreading to other areas nearby. Near the end of February 2020, people from other countries start getting infected. Many countries begin reporting new cases every passing day. Before we could stop and think for a moment, a global pandemic takes over the world. Choas everywhere. There seems to be no escape. We have no cure. We have no vaccination procudures. We don't even know how exactly how the virus works right now. All we know is, that it spreads too fast and can be fatal.
Nobody knows what to expect, and what to do. Every country tries their best to contain the virus, and limit its spread. But due to the current circumstances, we don't know what will work. Every attempt, every strategy, every aim, is a shot in the dark. Will it be a hit or a miss? Only time will tell. But right now, people are getting severely ill, and many are dying. Everyone is afraid.
The Virus Reaches the Emirates
Tumblr media
The Emirates in particular, immediately acts upon the required safety and security protocols. Santizers are placed at all public places like Hotels, Religious places, and Businesses. Temperature scanners are used at entrances of all such organisations. Schools have been closed. All educational work is being shifted to e-learning. Businesses are motivated to direct their work-flow online, as much as possible.
The public has been advised to follow all directed SOPs, and all the expense of testing and cures is taken care of by the government of the UAE. The least that we can do, is follow WHO's guidelines and SOP(Standard Operating Procedure)s.
We now live by the following protocols:
- Washing hands with soap and water
- Sanitizing hands during the inavailability of water
- Wearing face masks in public places
- Avoiding handshakes and other physical contact
- Avoiding touching our faces
Many extra precautionary measures are taken as well. Businesses and community centres, install disinfectionary entrances. People use disinfectants on household objects, at home. Every single step in taken, to ensure the safety of our own selves, and others.
UAE for the Win!
Tumblr media
July 2020; It was a tough and long-lasting struggle, against an enemy we know less about. But we were ready. The UAE through it's well thought out plans, contains the spread of the viral disease. The problem still exists, but we have everything under control. We've managed to keep the number of cases at one of the lowest counts, globally.
With over 9.7 Million residents, so far we only have about 300+ cases. We have won the first half of the battle. We resume economic activities, and slowly start moving towards normalization. We host a big AI Event in Dubai. We celebrate our victory over the seemingly unknown. The Emirates with its wise policies and practical implementation, stay ahead of the curve during these trying times.
Many countries have been working in coordination with the medical industry, to produce an effective vaccine. So far, we've seen many claims of people being close to achieving perfection. None so far, had been completely successful. Clinical trials, however are have begun. Many of us have even volunteered, and the UAE is looking forward to a successful vaccine quite soon.
Fear of Second Wave?
Tumblr media
MBT offers its deepest condolences to the people who lost their ones, and prayers for the early recovery of all undergoing treatment or under isolation. It's been some time since the bigger challenge has passed us. However, it was rumored and predicted, that there will be a second wave. Not just in the UAE, but globally. Today we see the number of cases rising once again. There's a slow rise in our country as well. However due to proper planning, we have all the necessary measures in place to tackle the issue once again. We the emiratis, have risen over this pandemic once, and we can do it again. All we have to do, is to follow the directives of the government and WHO. We can do this.
Our own Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has also recently taken part in the clinical trials of the Covid-19 vaccinations (along with other government officials).
This has made us hopeful, that of the swift availability of the perfected vaccines for the general public as well. Just yesterday, Pharma giant Pfizer has also claimed, that their vaccines have shown 90% effectiveness.
A Brighter Future Ahead
Tumblr media
This means that we're headed in the right direction. Entrepreneur, Philanthropist and Industry leader Bill Gates, has also given us hope of a brighter future. According to him these vaccines will serve two purposes. The first of course will be to be a preventive measure against the corona virus.
But also secondly, there will be a new form of vaccines. According to him, this will speed up the development of RNA vaccines. This is another positive outlook for us, as RNA vaccines are safer, easier to produce, as compared to traditional vaccines. He also suggests that this could potentially help us in creating vaccines for other diseases like Malaria, TB and HIV.
Once we have the vaccines readily available on a global scale, things will normalize even faster. In the Emirates and beyond, there's a new found hope. We're so much closer to finally being able to live freely, without the fear of infections.
What will 2021 Be Like?
Tumblr media
The world has been through a lot. Over the past few months we've felt lost, entrapped, and exhausted, over the seemingly never ending battle. But as we head towards the new year, we can expect a fresh breeze of air. Of course it won't be an instant patch-up, as the year begins. Relaxation of the final resolve however, will add a bit more calmness to our lives. The second wave will still be a challenge. We'll probably have to keep following precautionary measures. But with new developments, we'll have more surety of being rid of this virus much sooner.
What should be look forward to in the coming year though?
Well, for starters:
The perfected COVID-19 Vaccinations would either have started already, or would start within the year
Many Industries are projected to properly get back on track, and employments are expected to increase
International flights and regulations will start getting back on track
Educational procedures will be normalized
We'll probably start work on vaccines for HIV, Malaria, and TB, based on the COVID vaccines
If (God forbid) we have to face a challenge like this again, we'll be more ready than ever before
Rulings on mass gatherings will be further eased
Are You Ready For The Celebration?
Tumblr media
We're expecting many great things in the future. 2021 also marks the Golden Jubilee of the United Arab Emirates. What a wonderful time to be alive! This is the year that we accomplish Vision 2021, which is a government plan to make UAE one of the best countries in the world as it hits 50 complete years. The government is pumped and ready for more development and innovations. We're also heading for a 3.1% economical growth, despite all setbacks.
So this year we can also look forward to:
Expo 2020
The Mars Mission
Technological Advancements in many areas
Digitalization of the country
Tourism Boost
Expectedly, there will be many events, with mass gatherings in the Emirates, celebrating and promoting our Golden Jubilee. We will have millions of foreigners visit again. There will be a vast increase in tourism. We'll develop and work heavily towards innovations, like AI and Blockchain. We'll be sending the Arab World's first ever umanned spacecraft to Mars; to study it's climate and measure its suitability of for sustainable life. A lot of exciting and amazing things are expected to take place the next year. We at MBT, are hooked!
But till then, our fellow Emiratis, remain calm, keep following SOPs, and stay safe. Just a little more effort, and then we go big again.
Yallah!

3 HDPE Products for Wall Protection
Tumblr media
Damaged walls lose their appeal. They look ugly, and furthermore their condition gets worse over time. That can lead to some major consequences, if left neglected. There are a number of factors, that contribute to damage on walls. In public places with high amounts of daily foot traffic, this is especially a matter of concern. The more people there are, the more the chances of a structures getting hit. Each hit on its own, is quite insignificant against a well-built wall. But continuous impact can seriously damage it with time.
For this reason, many public places use wall protection. These come be in various forms, and are used for an array of purposes. One of the materials used for this, is HDPE. We'll get to why you should consider HDPE, but first let's discuss what HDPE is.
What is HDPE?
HDPE is a thermoplastic polymer, made with ethylene. It's full name is High Density PolyEthylene; sometimes shortened to polythene or alkathene. It's a tough material, that's highly resistant to impact and damage. So there's a number of commercial and industrial uses for it, all over the world. Our focus today, will be on how well it does for walls.
But we should let you know, that this material is also used in construction for making food grade pipes. Plus, it's also a preferred material in the plastic industry, for small containers. Today many plastic elements are made with HDPE. This means multiple kinds of food storage containers(bottles, jugs, etc), and many other things (bins, toys, bags, etc.).
Anyway, let's get to the point. Which is...
Why Should You Use HDPE for Walls?
That's a good question. The first concern that may come to mind, is that it's plastic. Why should you use plastic, for walls? Isn't it bad for the environment? Plus, if you do go for for it, is there any good that comes out of it? Would plastic fare well in deterring damage, and making walls safer?
Let us explain.
HDPE gives you a number of big advantages, that work in your favour. Here's a list of all the reasons why you should consider HDPE:
It is 100% recyclable. This makes it an eco-friendly material, that can be resued.
Transportation is easy. The material's lightweight. So it can be moved from one location to another, without hassle.
Durability is great with HDPE too. It can withstand the elements, due to its rigid and tough nature.
It's highly resistant to chemicals. So, there's less to worry about chemical damage.
There's no leeching or BPA, in HDPE. This makes it much safer for use, and prevents health related issues.
Lastly, it's water proof. This means liquid spills wouldn't harm it, and can be wiped off with ease.
This is a summarized list of the benefits of HDPE, in general. Now, let's talk about how it can be used, to protect walls.
Wall Protection with HDPE
Following are the three products that can give you HDPE Protection for walls
1. Wall Guards
These are made with recycled plastic material, or a combination of virgin and recycled. They're easy to install; which makes it more convenient for both, the consumer and the supplier. As mentioned before, they're water and chemical resistant as well. This makes them suitable for use in a number of facilities. These are often used in hospitals and medical facilities, as they often face a lot of heavy traffic. Whether in the form of human traffic, or push carts, beds, and the like, there's a lot of potential impact to be dealth with. These provide impact resistance, for all walls and corridors.
2. Crash Rails
Okay, so crash rails are basically one of the main types of wall guards. Wall guards can be termed as a general word for the set of guards, bumpers, and railings that protect walls from damage. HDPE crash rails provide high impact protection. Like all other HDPE products, these too can be recycled and reused.
These too are used in busy areas, in the public and private sector. Hospitals for instance (again) need these to protect against the impact of carts, beds, and machinery that's pushed around. These are built to resist every impact as such, and are often preferred for heavy duty impact protection.
3. Corner and Edge Protectors
Corners and Edges are also prone to damage, in busy areas. For instance, warehouses and the like. There's a lot of heavy machinery involved there. HDPE's toughness and durability, make it a great material for corner and edge protection. It's used to make Heavy Duty Corner Guards, that can take a heavy amount of damage and endure it.
These help against the severe impact of fork trucks, and the like. HDPE corner guards, help a great deal against structural damage to walls. Plus, these too come with the convenience of easy installation.
Conclusion
So that was just a little bit about HDPE, and it's products. Hopefully you enjoyed the article, and would like to read more. Now, to conclude, HDPE is:
- A tough and highly chemical/weather/UV resistant material
- Recyclable, reusable, and safe for utilization even in the medical industry
- Can be used to protect walls in the form of Wall Guards, Crash Rails, Corner and Edge Protectors

Vinyl vs Laminate | Flooring Solutions by MBT
Tumblr media
Flooring is one of the major parts of your building/house projects. You have to look at several factors, and there can be different flooring options in different rooms and areas. One popular choice among flooring solutions, is hard wood flooring. While that can be expensive, it's no doubt a great thing for the long term.
But of course, there are more budget-friendly options out there. The most confusing choice among them all, is whether to go for Vinyl or for Laminate. They both cost lesser, while retaining the premium look of hard wood. Being made from different materials however, they will always have their ups and downs.
So today, at MBT we'll walk you through these two, and hopefully help you make a more informed decision. Let's first discuss what these materials are:
Vinyl
Vinyl Flooring is a popular alternative to hardwood. It's quite resistant to moisture. High humidity areas greatly benefit from having vinyl floors installed. Luxury Vinyl is made of several layers of resilient polyvinyl chloride (PVC).  Coated with urethane, this comes in two different types:
Luxury Vinyl Tiles
Sometimes shortened to LVT, these tiles are great for the imitation of different materials. They offer a range of installion, from being glued down to floating to loose laying. They come in many different sizes, so they can take the appearance of various flooring solutions.
Luxury Vinyl Planks
These are also an attractive luxury vinyl variant. Vinyl planks are also referred to, as LVP. These too easily mimic the look of a natural wooden floor, with additional details. You can also install these with the same methods mentioned above; Loose lay, Glued Down, Floating.
Laminate
Laminates are also a a suitable alternative to hardwood flooring. There are planks made of numerous high-density fiberboards, laminated together. This isn't a great option for high-moisture areas. But some laminate variants do come with water-resistance. With proper care, this can help deter water damage. Laminates are made with the by products of wood, and they too provide a appealing authentic wooden floor appearance. As for installation, these can be both; glued down, and float.
Pros and Cons of Vinyl
Now lets's first discuss the pros and cons of Vinyl flooring:
Pros
Vinyl is quite easy to install. As mentioned earlier, these can easily be install it in three different ways. Whether on a subfloor or afloat, this is quite easy to put together. Then there's the price. You save a lot when you go for vinyl over hardwood. Keeps your pocket heavy. Add with that, the variety of designs and textures that you get. It can mimic different materials and flooring solutions, like wood, stone, and marble. Adding to that, they're also easy to maintain and clean. So, there isn't a lot that goes into their maintenance either.
But perhaps the biggest advantage you get with vinyl, is durability. These will last you long, with a little bit of maintenance. Some types of vinyl flooring are also waterproof. So they're quite suitable even for highly humid areas. This little bit also gives it an even bigger edge over laminates.
Cons
Perhaps the biggest problem with vinyl is its price. Yes, it was mentioned as a cheaper alternative. It actually is cheaper than regular hardwood. However the cost is relatively higher than laminate floors. It's durability covers that cost for you, over time. But that's definitely a factor you might be interested to know.
Pros and Cons of Laminates
Now let's get to the pros and cons of laminates:
Pros
Laminates too, are easy to install. The same methods of installation, as described above. One distinguising feature of laminate flooring, is comfort. They feel better to stand on, and walk. More over, they're made of wood by products. So they also feel warmer. This gives it an even better resemblance to real hardwood floors. There's an abundance of designs that come with laminates, as well. They can also be given the appearance of stone, and bamboo. This variety also gives them an appeal, in the eyes of consumers. Then there's the price. They're considerably cheaper than hardwood, and even vinyl. This makes it the most budget-friendly option among the three.
But perhaps the biggest feature of laminates, is that they tend to give a better wooden appearance. The resemblance is much similar to wood, and more attractive. These realistic wooden textures and patterns, make it look even more elegant.
Cons
The one major disadvantage you get with laminates, is durability. While some types may be water resistant, they're not completely prone to water damage either. If left neglected, even those will cause problems. This is the one issue, where laminates underperform against vinyl. They don't last as long as vinyl. The price is also quite lower however, so that does make up for your loss. But if you want longer term use with one time installation, then you should consider this well.
Conclusion
So how do we end the debate? Vinyl or Laminates. We say they both have their unique applications. But which one do you prefer? Let us know in the comments. If this was to be wrapped up in a few sentences, we recommend vinyl for:
- Higher Durability
- Water resistance
And laminates for:
- Better Wooden textures
- Budget-Friendliness
In the end, it's your choice. If you know what your requirements and budget are, you can easily decide between them. But if you still have any issues deciding, do contact us for more info. We'll be happy to guide you through your entire project plan. Expert help always tends to get better results.

Why You Should Go For Artificial Turfs Over Grass
Tumblr media
Greens are some of nature's greatest blessings. We often take them for granted. But they make a significant contribution in our lives, and for the planet itself. Today in our busy lifestyles, lavish homes, and modern societies, we see less greenery than ever before. The city life can be tough. Everything from your job to your personal life, will exhaust you. But if you come across a bit of nature, that gives you comfort. Brings you warmth and calmness. This can be in form of wooden furniture, or grass and other plants.
Artificial turfs and grass lawns, also greatly contribute to this. They bring you back to nature. Lets say you've decided to get a lawn, or maybe you need a sports field, but you're conflicted. Should you get real grass? Should you get an artificial turf? That's a major decision, which would change the factors involved later on.
Today, at MBT we'll go through the reasons why you should go for Artificial Turfs. But first, for those that may not know, let's talk about what an artificial turf is. An artificial turf is a grass like surface, made of synthetic fibers. It was traditionally used in sports arenas. With time however, commercial and residential uses of the product also arrived.
But why should you use it? Let's discuss
The Benefits of Artificial Turfs
There are various reasons for the trend of artificial turfs. Let's get to some of them below:
- Eco Friendliness
Because artificial turf is made of synthetic materials, it does not need to be watered at all, except when the homeowner decides to occasionally rinse it off. Giving artificial turf an occasional rinse helps to keep odors from becoming a problem, especially if pets tend to do their business close to the home. A typical grass sports field can use between 500,000 to a million gallons of water each year. Synthetic turf allows communities to conserve that water, which is particularly critical during times of drought.
- Saves on Maintenance
Synthetic turf eliminates the use of potentially harmful pesticides and fertilizers while significantly decreasing maintenance costs.
- Looks Just as Good
We can’t ignore the aesthetic value of synthetic turf. Available in an array of blade lengths, colors, and textures (including variegated strands), the new generation of synthetic grass can fool most.
- Long Term Durability
Synthetic turf is a smart solution for overused, unsafe playing fields. A grass field simply cannot remain lush and resilient if it is used more than three to four days a week, or in the rain, or during the six months of the year when grass doesn’t grow – otherwise the surface will become an unsafe, rock-hard, dirt field.
Where To Use Artificial Turfs
Okay so those were the why to's. What about the where to's? What places can actually use these turfs, and how do they help? Let's see:
- Sports facilities
Artificial turf designed for sports is tough. It has to be, to withstand the volume of running feet, cleats, and types of grinding plant-and-turn moves players make during a hectic game. It is also far safer than natural grass, reducing injuries under any conditions and also allowing play to continue when conditions are wet.
- Hotels
Many hotels already use artificial grass in their garden and around the swimming pools. Often, hotels are not allowed to irrigate, in order to save water. With artificial grass, there will always be a perfectly green garden, while saving up to 70% on water consumption. But they also save a lot on maintenance!
- Houses
Garden upkeep can be a major problem. You have to mow the turf, spray the grass, etc. Our solution: lay artificial grass around your residence. Artificial grass is also pet proof and very pet friendly. So that's a plus point if you have pets.
- Decking
Artificial grass is ideal for a caravan site. Create a clean and maintenance free green area at your caravan site. It can be used safely by your children and pets. Even when it rains, they don’t bring mud in your caravan anymore. That is what we call a hassle free holiday.
- Public Places like Airports
Artificial grass is a smart solution for beautifying public spaces such as highway medians and airport landing strips that would otherwise be difficult and expensive to maintain. It reduces city maintenance costs, freeing tax dollars for other purposes.
Conclusion
A true outdoor carpet, artificial grass directly addresses the primary environmental concerns of real turf. It requires no watering, no mowing, and no feeding. The life expectancy of artificial turf can be upwards of 25 years, making it a less costly alternative to real turf over its life span. Also, artificial turf doesn't freeze in the winter or thin out in the summer.

Carpet Flooring - Carpet Tiles, and Their Advantages
Tumblr media
Carpets are cushioned surfaces, that cover floors. Their use is a global age old tradition. Due to their design patterns and comfort, they have stood the test of time. The top is usually made from wool. But also comes in other textile fibers, like nylon and polyester. They're known for their sound absorbance, non-slip, and warmth providing qualities.
Even today, these are a popular choice in flooring, for various residential and commercial areas. Carpets are soft and comforable. So they're often used in bedrooms and master bedrooms. They can be used over various floor types; most commonly laminate and vinyl.
Today however, there isn't just one kind of carpet in the market. You now have options. Two things may generally come to one's mind, while thinking of carpets.
- Wall to Wall Carpet
- Carpet Tiles
Wall to wall carpets are used to cover entire floors with a single piece. They're a preferable choice for large scale patterns. A Wall to Wall carpet is seamless, and that adds to the design and appearance of a room. These are traditional, and have been widely used all over the world.
Carpet tiles are used in a combination of many tiles, to cover the floor of a room. They're a modern concept, and offer a unique new style to carpeting. They come in various shapes and sizes, like squares and rectangles. These are more preferable today, in areas that require more maintenance. Growing in popularity, as the days go by.
Advantages of Carpet Tiles
Today at MBT, we'll be looking at some of the advantages of Carpet tiles. Following are some of the reasons why, you should opt for carpet tiles:
Easy to Install
Carpet tiles are quite easy to install, and transport. You don't normally require expert supervision, to install them. It's a simple process, that takes a reasonable amount of time. Plus, they come with a backing already attached underneath. (meaning no underlay requirement for installation). This helps save a lot of effort, extra resources, along with considerable costs and time.
Waste Evasion
You can easily fit carpet tiles where you need. They're compact, and they can be fitted neatly alongside each other. Since they're individual pieces, you can easily escape the hassle of waste material. They make for optimum usage, and decrease the waste process altogether. The few tiles that may be left over, can also be easily stored for future usage. Which brings us to the next point.
Maintenance is a Breeze
Maintenance is also one of the main pros of Carpet Tiles. If some tiles go bad, you can easily remove and replace those select tiles. You don't need to remove the entire thing, for the sake of a few. Cleaning too, is just as simple as wall to wall carpets. Vaccuuming will generally do the job. You can also just take a select few out, if they need a wash. Place them back when they're dry. As mentioned before, this makes them a suitable option for places that require regular maintenance.
Versatile Designs
Modern carpet tiles come in a wide array of design patterns and colors. Their shapes and sizes create even more of an opportunity to get creative, and make something unique within your vision of the floor. Designers and architects can help you through the process of customized designs as well. They're quite favorable today, for rooms that need comfortable floors with decorative or unique floor patterns. Carpet dye technologies allow us to create an array of colors, and design patterns, that can't be achieved in traditional carpets.
Non-Slip Surface
Carpet tiles, like Wall to wall carpets, are made from textile fibers. These are soft and comfortable to walk on. Along with that, they also reduce the chances of slips and falls. In this aspect, carpet tiles are on par with traditional wall to wall carpets.
Durability
Another benefit of Carpet Tiles, is that they're durable and offer longevity. They're designed to way to hold up well to heavy commercial traffic. With enhanced stain protection, these are able to withstand more than regular carpets. With the added facility to removing individual tiles, you can also simply replace a tile upon need. This further adds to the longevity of the structure, as a whole.
It should be considered, that cushion backed carpet tiles do better against wear and tear. Due their absorbance of foot traffic impact, they're able to better protect the material of the carpet.
Conclusion
Carpets are a soft and comfortable flooring solutions. There are two main types of carpets:
- Wall to Wall Carpets
- Carpet Tiles
Following are some of the reasons why you should consider carpet tiles:
- They're easy to install
- Less material is wasted during fitting
- Maintenance and Cleaning is a breeze
- You get unique design and aesthetic properties
- They're resistant against slips and falls
- Carpet tiles are more durable than Wall to Wall carpets
Hopefully, this article helped you understand the benefits of carpet tiles. We at MBT, always look forward to guiding people towards the right decision, with their building material needs. Each project is unique in its own, however. While these articles are these to offer guidance, that's just what they are; general guidance.
If you have trouble deciding between various building materials for your project, we highly recommend that you consult an experienced professional. Experts can help guide you not just within one phase, but throughout your complete project. This will help you make better decisions for both, design and functionality.
