Lucky charm I Carlos Sainz
This is a very dark one!!!
Tumblr media
Carlos Sainz x fem!reader
Warning: 18+!!! trigger warning! angst! blood! hurt/comfort
Please be aware that's just a fantasy !!!
*I gave the reader character a nickname Fifi and I haven't proof read it*
Reader thinks she's the one behind Carlos's luck in the races and decides to take matter to her own hands. -.-.-.-.-.-
When they first started dating he would secretly take her to races. Every time she was there something happened to his team or him–the car had unexplainable errors, collisions, DNF and so on. Times when she couldn’t attend everything went smoothly. As if she was his bad luck charm. She noticed the pattern quite quickly and stopped attending at all. Carlos didn’t understand what had happened. He wanted her to be there when he finished on the podium or chat face to face before the race.
On Carlos’s home race, the Spanish GP, she couldn’t miss even if she tried. Few races before she had attended Carlos’s race secretly but only met up after the race. Turning the race she would try different ways to make the bad luck go away.
First time she would try by going in just after the start but Carlos crashed on that race. Next time was when Carlos had insisted she come to the race. That time she had stumbled on the stairs and hurt her hand pretty badly right after the start. In that race Carlos was on the podium, 3rd. Little by little she released that if she was hurt any way he would do good. One time she tried cutting herself but that didn’t work. He had crossed the finish line but was 7th.
This time she had to be there for him. Carlos was thrilled to have his girlfriend beside him for the whole race week. Even though the practice days didn’t go as good as the team hoped he smiled and held his head up for the big day. He really wanted that win.
While Carlos was testing the car she would be in the bathroom draining blood. Oh she had turned into a good a lier and a hider. Although Carlos had question her choice of outfit every day. The weather was much too hot for long sleeves but she insisted that she didn’t want skin cancer and longer clothes helped to keep her body temperature cool. Carlos just sniggered but kissed her every time.
One thing she seemed to have a hard time explaining was the lightheadedness that came with blood loss. On the first practice day she would lose some blood, then on day two some more. She seemed even baler to Carlos. But when he mentioned anything she would deny it.
“Honey, You don’t need to worry about me. You are the one in the car, behind the wheel. We should get you ready.” She tried to reason.
 “B-but Cariño.”
“No buts. You really shouldn’t worry about me. I should do the worrying, okey?”
Carlos shook his head but took her into a hug while kissing the top of her head. He had noticed her cold skin even though they were outside in the sun.
“Now you go on, Hon. Get into your proper outfit and have some ice cubes hanging over your body. The race is about to open.”
They shared one last kiss before Carlos went his way and she was left to wander around. She had stumbled into Pierre's girlfriend and they talked for a while. Carlos had talked to his PR manager to find someone to keep an eye on her. Even if she said she was fine he didn’t believe her. For some time he had felt that she hid something from him. He had tried to keep himself busy to avoid thinking about what’s going on with her but this was his limit. After the race he had to find out. Even if she was cheating behind his back.
The drivers were standing side by side and listening to the Spanish anthem. Carlos' eyes wandered around. Just as panic was to set in he saw her. She was with Pierre's girlfriend.
After the opening he didn’t have much time. She had come to the garage to give him one last kiss before the start.
“Go get them, tiger!” She had shouted over the engine.
“Prepare yourself for a champagne shower.” He winked and jumped into the car.
Now was the time. She lingered around the garage for a few more minutes before starting to go on her way to the bathroom. Someone said her name. She turned around. It was Carlo’s PR manager. “Hey. You going somewhere?”
“To the bathroom. Why?”
“Before the start?”
“Better rush then, shouldn’t I?” Fifi laughed nervously and speed walked to the bathroom.
Carlo’s PR manager knew something was off. He wouldn’t have said to keep an eye on her if it weren’t nothing. She checked her watch to make sure what time Fifi went to the bathroom.
She reached the bathroom and locked the door so no one would get in. FUCK! He made someone look after her. She started on her plan. Carlos had to win. No matter what.
As the last light had turned on the PR manager looked around and spotted Fifi watching the screen. Maybe she really just had to go to the bathroom real quick.
Race started and everything seemed going right, even better than expected. Carlos was fast, managed to keep his pace and gain better positions. The pit stops went well and strategy seemed to work out for him. Two more laps to go. He was fighting for second and third place.
His PR manager had eyed Fifi throughout the race. At the ending the whole team was too into celebrating and she had forgotten about looking after her. Fifi had noticed that as well and rushed back to the bathroom. Her bandage was soaked with her blood. The tight longsleeved shirt had kept her blood in but she needed more of it to flow out. She didn’t cut her wrists. No. Carlos would notice that. She cut a scar right before the armpit.
That didn’t seem to work so she took the blade to her wrists and cut it deep. Blood came out rushing. A little lie about being clumsy would help her out with Carlos. She could hear the faint screaming coming from outside the bathroom. All she could think about was whether Carlos had finished second or third. She hoped it was second.
As the congratulation had finished, the PR manager looked around the garage. Fifi was nowhere to be seen. She asked around but no one had seen her leave. She had to find her before Carlos arrived. She saw a little trail of blood going to the bathroom. The door was locked. “Fifi! Are you alright?!” No answer. She kept banging but nothing. Finally she took the courage and kicked the door. It took some tries before it flew open.
There she was. Lying in the pool of blood.
OH SHIT. She rushed in, kneeling beside her and pulled her up against her. That’s when she saw where the blood was coming from. Acting fast, she took her long sleeve shirt and tied it firmly around her hand. There must be many liters of blood on the floor.
Liz took her radio and called for medics and told them to keep out of Carlos’s sight. She also gave instructions that she was with his girlfriend who had a nosebleed.
Carlos had won his home race. It was a big day for him and the team. As he got out of the car we congratulated other drivers and rushed to his team. Everyone was cheering. Although the practice days hadn’t gone so well he didn’t let his team down.
He went back to be weighted and looked around for his girlfriend who was nowhere to be seen. He couldn’t go looking for her as well because they were to take a quick interview with all the podium finishers. He had asked his teammate about his girlfriend or PR manager but he shrugged his shoulders.
When the interview was finished he went to the garage to find his girlfriend. Finally he saw both the PR manager and Fifi on the hallway floor.
“Hello champ!” shouted Liz and stood up to hug Carlos. He returned the hug but looked down to his girlfriend. “She had a little accident and I had to give her your jacket.” Liz whispered.
Carlos squatted down before her. She had the brightest smile on and held up her hand for a hug. “My Champion. Knew you could do it.” Carlos hugged her hard. Small pearls of tears started running down her face. Liz had left them alone.
“Cariño~” He wiped away her tears with his thumb. “Just really happy to see you win, my love.”
Carlos sat down beside her and pulled her on his lap. Although her nose was a little pink her face looked pale. He put his hand on her cheek which was really cold.
“When I’m finished we should go and see a doctor. You look too pale for it to be healthy.” Carlos caressed her cheek.
“It’s okay. I just had a little nosebleed. That’s why I needed the jacket.”
They stayed like this for a few more minutes before someone came looking for Carlos. He had to get on the podium.
Carlos stood up and helped Fifi up. As she got up everything went black. Somehow Carlos had looked away for a second and his PR manager had caught her. Making her look like she was just leaning on her shoulder. Carlos kissed her head and was rushed to the celebration.
 Liz laid Fifi down.
“You stupid girl. We have to get you to the hospital.”
She couldn’t hear any of it. To her it felt like she had fallen asleep.
The medics came back rushing with a stretcher. She was taken to the hospital for blood transfusion. Carlos’s PR manager kept Carlos in the dark. She needed him to finish all the interviews. When asking about Fifi, she lied that Fifi was resting in his room.
Carlos was lifted up to the podium with his car. His smile was wide. As he got the cup he held it up high whileist the crowd cheered.
When it came to the champagne shower he looked around the crowd for his girl but didn’t get a sight of her. Other drivers came attacking him and he was lost into the celebrations.
As the day went on the drama reached his teammate's girlfriend's ears. She told Kika who told Pierre and so the word went on. They had learned that she had a strong nosebleed and was taken to the hospital.
Carlos saw other drivers with their girlfriends and wished Fifi would be there. She would most likely shy away from the cameras and whisper to him about little rumors she has heard.
Day had turned into a night and as Carlos was returning to his room to see Fifi she wasn’t there. Puzzled, he chanced and went to look for her. On his way he bumped into Liz.
“Have you seen Fifi? Thought you said she was in my room waiting?”
Liz’s face had dropped which made Carlos anxious.
“First I have to ask you to promise me to not shout at me.”
Carlos didn’t say anything. She pinched him “Hey!”
“Ow! Okay, I promise.”
Liz takes a deep breath. “She’s in the hospital.”
“WHAT!” Carlos shouted.
Liz cringes as Carlos says small ‘sorry’.
“I had one of our personal go with her and she has been keeping me updated. I can give you the location and room number but you must not lose your temper, understood?”
Carlos nodded. Liz gave him the information and went with him. He drove a little faster than he should have.
She woke up to the odd fresh cold air. She was in the hospital. There was someone sitting in an armchair across the room.
“Oh you are awake. Had a quite long nap there.” It was one of the employees, Ada.
Fifi looked down to her hand which was stitched up.
“You lost quite a lot of blood there. They were scared it would be fatal.”
Fifi didn’t say anything at first, but then she remembered Carlos. “He got first place right?”
 Ada nodded.
It had gone better than she had thought. She sighed happily.
“What’s the time? How long was I out?”
Ada checked her phone from her paperwork.
“Almost 6pm.” She opened her phone and texted something.
“Oh my, you must be starving. Go to the hotel and eat something. You don’t need to keep an eye on me anymore.”
Ada shook her head. Fifi sat up a pit more.
“I have my belongings right beside me. If I need anything I’ll call.” Fifi tried to reason.
Ada sat still. Not sure what to do.
“Really Ada. Go to the celebrations. Get drunk. They will most likely let me out in a few hours.”
Finally Ada started moving. She catheter her belongings. “If Liz shouts at me it’s on you, understood?”
Fifi laughed. “Yes-yes. Now go on! You have to celebrate with others.”
As Ada left, tears started running down her face. They were bittersweet. It would be hard to explain the wounds to Carlos. Liz had promised to keep her mouth shut if she went to hospital.
She had been alone for half an hour when the door was slammed open and Carlos rushed in. For a second he stood there looking at her.
“Quite a nosebleed huh?” Fifi tried to lighten the mood.
Carlos went up to her bed. Sitting next to her. She thought he would hug her, instead he took her arm to look at it. Him not saying anything was killing her. The heart monitor betrayed her as well.
When Fifi looked up to Carlos he saw tears running down his cheeks. “Why, you estúpida?”
She didn’t say anything.
“WHY?!” he shouted.
Which scared her a lot. Tears started to form in her eyes as well, blurring the view.
“So I wouldn’t be your bad luck charm…”
Carlos let her hand down.
“Look at me.”
She couldn’t. Too ashamed to look him in the eyes.
Carlos couldn’t take it anymore and forced her to look at him. “You are NOT my bad luck charm, okay Cariño?”
She hugged him and they both cried for a while. Carlos even laid down next to her.
“Words can’t describe how sorry I am to have ruined your day, honey.”
“All that matters is that you are safe and alive. I’ll never let you out of my sight ever again. Understood Cariño?”
She nodded.

Summer full of wonders I Carlos Sainz
Tumblr media
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Carlos Sainz x (she)reader
Hi. I'm back with part 2. Hope you all have a wonderful time reading it.
---
Sweetness with pining for each other.
---
Part 1  ---
Few days have passed by. As it turned out Carlos did have an extra room for her to stay at. First night she couldn’t fall asleep because of the fear of being tricked and raped or robbed or god knows what. So she was glad to see a note on the kitchen counter saying he went for a run and she could freshen up before he saw her.
She noticed how Carlos had a strict workout and food plan. On days he didn’t have plans they would cook together. Some hispanic songs playing in the background.
Every morning they went for a swim in the pool. Slowly she has started to understand the movements and with little practice she’ll ace it in no time. They had made plans to go swim in the sea again some day soon. But this day must be soon because in 3 days she will go away. Back to cold weather and slippery pedestrian paths.
“Hey, how was your run?” She was just finishing with breakfast. “Great as usual,” answered in an out of breath voice. “The food is almost ready.” Carlos nodded. He was staring. Actually his eyes were stuck on her every movement. He had started to daydream about morning when he could put his hands on her hips from behind and push her against the kitchen counter.
She waved her hand. “Carlos?” He shook his head. “Yeah, right. I’ll be right back.” He walked away. The cold shower had been the solution for days now. If only she would stay with him a bit longer.
“You take care of your health quite a lot. Don’t your joints start hurting with this much workout?” She was curious. And since they didn’t have much time left she had mentally said ‘fuck it’. Carlos sniggers at her comment. “How old do you think I am?” She blushed. ‘The worst thing you can ever do is to guess someone's age wrong by a mile.’ “Eeeh.. in your mid 20s?” To that answer Carlos shook his head. “Close but not really. Also, why should my joints hurt in my mid twenties?” She couldn’t look him in the eyes. “..I don’t know. You just seem to workout A lot.”
Carlos had almost finished with his breakfast. “Today we shall go to the beach. You still have a promise to fulfill.” She just nodded and stood up to put dishes away.
Walking down to the beach was peaceful. Streets were full of people and ice cream sellers. “After the swim it’s ice cream on me,” she babbled. Carlos would love it but the season was near and in a week he would also have to leave this little village to start testing the car. No extra calories were allowed. Although he wouldn’t mind watching her eat ice cream. If only he knew what to do. ‘Should I tell her about my true self? What if she changes like all of them?’
The young woman had noticed Carlos spacing out. He seemed to do it a lot more than before. “Carlos, do you have a driver's license?” “ A what now?” “You know, licensed to drive a car?” Carlos smirked. “Yes. Want to go for a ride?” he winked. She nodded. “I would like to see some countryside before I have to leave. Do you think you could squeeze it between your training plan?” Carlos was actually over the moon. He could show her his skills and maybe figure out how to see her again after her leaving. “Yes.”
Unknowingly they had arrived at the beach. The weather was perfect. It was sunny, the sea was calm and no clouds in sight. Only a lot of people were sunbathing.
This time they walked together into the water. She was a little hesitant but Carlos took her hand into his. Water got to their knees, then hips and a little further it was already to her breast and only to his middle. “Cariño, are you ready?” She let go of his hand and jumped fully in. Carlos right behind her.
She laughed “ I can swim! I can experience the sea like never before!” She shouted at the top of her lungs. Carlos laughed as well. “Yes, cariño. Yes you can. So proud of you.” She turned around, swam to him and hugged him as tight as humanly possible. “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.” Carlos was little taken back but hugged her right back.
She looked him in the eyes. ‘If only I could kiss him.’ Carlos kissed her on the forehead. “Let's swim some more. The waves will be back soon.” She let go of him. Her mind was on something else. So was Carlos’s.
While Carlos was in the gym, she was packing for a picnic. She was working up the courage to ask him out. Or find out if he was in any way interested to see her again.
She did her make-up a little fancier than on an average day. Carlos had a hard time choosing an outfit and had to ask some help from a friend. Finally they were both ready. Carlos had been sitting on the couch when she walked in. His heart stopped a beat. ‘oh madre ayúdame!’ “I’m ready to go” Her smile reached her big joyful eyes. Carlos coughed. “Yes! Let’s go.”
She saw his car for the first time. She didn’t even know he had one, neither the less a sports car. “I think I have misjudged you.” Carlos started the car. “And why is that?” She looked around the car. “I mean, if you have a sports car then you must know how to drive. The question is how good of a driver you are.” Carlos said nothing but winked.
In the main streets he obeyed the speed limit but right after the ‘end of village’ sign he stepped on a gas. “Oh my god! Carlos! Slow down!” She held tight to her seatbelt. “You are going to kill us!” Carlos looked at her. “Don’t worry. I know what I’m doi-” She interfered “Eyes on the ROAD, for christ sake!” Carlos’s smile widened. She on the other hand was barely holding it together. ‘Oh god. I’m too young to die. I still have a movie kiss to experience!’  Like this wasn’t enough, Carlos added some more speed. “Carlos I swear to god if you won’t slow down I’ll never share a car ride with you again!” she cried. He laughed but eventually slowed down. “OK-OK. I’ll drive like a grandma.”
She was still out of breath and tried to calm her heart by closing her eyes. Carlos would steal looks to see how she’s doing. He got his adrenaline up which helped to make a decision. A decision he would soon fulfill.
There was a beautiful field full of wildflowers. “I think this is a perfect place to stop.”
He parked the car. When turning off the engine he looked  at her. She had her eyes on the field. He would stare at her all the time if it weren’t creepy.
Carlos was carrying a picnic basket while she was walking around and occasionally stopping to take pictures. They decided to lay out the picnic just beside a big old tree. Carlos was laying out the planket when he heard a camera click. He looked at her. “What? It would’ve been a shame to not take a picture.”
They sat beside each other. Food scattered in front of them. She had taken the wine classes but Carlos filled them with orange juice. “Cheers!” After a little sip, she took out her film camera again. “Why take pictures on a film if we have digital cameras?” asked Carlos. She turned dramatically around and looked him in the eye. “Because! Imagine, you have to think out every detail for the picture to come out. And you won’t know how it came out til you develop it.” Carlos nodded. “Mind if I take a picture of you then?” She handed him the camera. “Sure.”
Carlos stood up, stepped a few steps back and pointed the camera to their little picnic with her in the center. “Smile!” he said. Her smile was genuine. When Carlos sat back down she sighed, “if only I could take a picture of us together on a picture.”
“So you're telling me you are almost 30?! You don’t seem to be even a day past 24. How is it that you are almost a fossil without looking like it?” “Fossil? I’m not THAT old. Besides, 30 is not the end of human life. It’s just the beginning.” She nodded, “Sure, Fossil.” Carlos attacked her with tickles. “Stop it you muppet! I’m not a fossil!” She had tears in her eyes. “Hahaha, Carlos! Stooop. I can’t take it anymore.” But he shook his head. “Not til you stop calling me that.” She tried to beat it but had to give up. “OK-OK! I won’t call you Fossil again… Dinosaur.” Just as Carlos had stopped, he attacked her again.
The sun was much lower than it had been on their arrival. A slight gust of wind had come. Flowers danced while butterflies tried to land on them. “Would you go out with me?”

Summer with stranger | Carlos Sainz
Tumblr media
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Carlos x (she)reader
Little angsty with sweet savoury.
--- It's my first time to write something like this. I have NO idea what I'm actually doing. Do enjoy if it's enjoyable.
---
“Please don’t cry.” Her head sifted from her hands. Big watery eyes looked up to him. He squatted down in front of her. “What’s the matter? Who made a pretty girl like you cry?” She sniffed. “Some arsehole.” The girl took a closer look at a man in front of her. His skin was golden brown, fluffy hair sat just right. Only she couldn’t look the man in the eyes.
Carlos put his hand on her shoulder. “I’ve heard that hugs make everything go away. Would you like to try it out?” His voice sounded sincere. She didn’t say anything but sifted her hands. That was all he needed to see and took the girl in his arms. One hand caressed her hair while the other held her tight against his chest. Head pressed against his neck and shoulder. He could feel her warmth and heartbeat. Tears started to slowly soak his shirt. Her smell was divine.
Slowly the girl started to feel a sense of comfort. The arsehole was forgotten for a minute. She felt safe. Although her nose was blocked from the crying she could smell his strong cologne wrapping her in a heavenly space.
“Would you like to go for a walk?” Suddenly the comfort was gone and cold reality was back. The girl nodded. “Ye-yeah, I would like that.”
He stood up and held his hand out to her. This was the first time she really looked up and saw the man's eyes. Soft brown eyes which matched with his fluffy hair.
“I was on my way to the beach. If you're interested then we could go there for a swim.” He did have a towel on his other shoulder. “I don’t have a towel.” All she could come up with. The part where she didn’t really know how to swim was left out. “No need to worry about that. They must have plenty to rent.”
If he hadn’t been so sweet she would have declined but for some reason she just couldn’t. “You are right. Will figure something out.” She smiled at him and looked away when their eyes met. Blood rushed to her cheeks.
As they walked he asked if she was local but learning that she was just visiting and didn’t know much about the city did he start talking about the beauty of it. She enjoyed listening about cafes to visit and roads to walk through.
The girl was quiet and he didn’t even know her name. “You are visiting for the first time. Is there a particular reason why here or?”
“I was meant to pay a visit to my boyfr- ex’s summer house. Things took a darker turn and now I’m just here to leave.” “Sorry, I didn’t mean to overstep-” “It’s completely fine. I should be the one apologizing and thanking.”
They walked side by side, almost close enough to hold hands. Occasionally catching sights of each other.  Her face started to light up. Teares long forgotten.
The sand was warm under their feet. She soaked in all the warmth and hid the fear of the sea with smiling.
“I never got your name..” As he was taking off his shirt he said “Carlos. Carlos Sainz. And you?” For a second the dictionary was forgotten. The man was ripped. She couldn’t stop blushing. After saying her name she held out her hand. He snickers but shakes it. Even his hand was twice her size.
He tried to be polite and not check her out. What a naive idea. She looked like heaven. Her skin white like the milky way. It didn’t go unnoticed by her.“I’m from a colder area. That’s why my skin is so light.” He took a sharp turn to the sea.
“Run to the sea?” She really would have liked to run the other way. Without saying anything she started running to the sea instead. He was hot on her tail. “I’ll catch you, you little-!”
She cried out when he caught up with her. Easily running past. She cried out with laughter while adding speed.
Once in water, she slowed down. He went head into the water. She stayed back and watched. When Carlos didn’t see her beside him and almost on the shore he screamed “oh no, you are coming in the water!” And swam back to her. “Nono, I’m happy right here.”
Carlos didn’t slow down which concerned her and she tried to run back. “You are not going anywhere!” Playfully he pulled her into the water. The water was only to her hips but scared her nevertheless. She screamed with horror and held onto him with her dear life.
He pulled the girl against him. “Everything is ok. You are safe with me. I won’t let you get any deeper, cariño.” She caught her breathing back and opened her eyes.
“Are you scared of the sea? You should have told me.” Lustful face was washed from his face and replaced with concern. “I didn’t want to ruin your plans. Already ruined your shirt with some mascara.” He chuckled. “This is the least of my problems.”
Her hands were still holding tight around his neck. Eyes roaming to his lips. They looked so kissable at this distance.
“Actually I have to confess something.” “Go on.” She looked away. “I don’t know how to swim.”
He took her chin into his hand and made her face him. “Then I can teach you. Maybe the sea isn't the best place to start but some other day. For example a pool. How does that sound?” She nodded. “The pool it is then. But right now we can just stand here and feel the warm water. If that’s fine with you.” Once again she nodded.
They stayed like this for a few more seconds when she realized their position. Her hands let go of his neck. He cleared his voice. The hands slid away quickly.
“You’ve helped me out a lot today. Would you like to grab some lunch together?” She had tried herself with his towel and was putting clothes back on. Carlos tried himself with the same towel. It felt a little erotic to know that just minutes ago the fabric ran against her smooth skin.
“Sure. I can take us to somewhere nice.” His meaning of nice ment somewhere fancy at first but the woman didn’t seem to know who he was and he’d love to keep it that way for as long as he can.  “That would be smart. I only ever visited a few places where they mostly served coffee and sweets.”
As they were both dressed, they took a turn back to the town. Sun was burning extra bright and finding a shelter with a cooler seemed mandatory. “Do you have a place to stay tonight?” She turned around, looking at him. “Uh, to tell you the truth, not really. I mean, I can afford one more night at the hotel but that’s it. And my booked flight isn’t until next week.”
She had forgotten all about her ex and her situation. But the weight was back on her shoulders. He saw the change on her face and regretted immediately what he had asked. “If you’d like, you could stay at my place until your flight back home. Not that I have a big apartment here but some arrangements could be done.” First it sounded a little too good and creepy to her. She had known Carlos for only… a few hours. In reality it felt much longer. And she didn’t have a plan B. Maybe he isn’t trying to kidnap her for her organs and genuinely felt sorry for her.
“If I did take your offer, what would you like back? There are no free lunches as they say.” She was shivering. Carlos thought for a minute. He just didn’t want her to go just yet. Moments where someone didn’t know him were rare. She as a person felt rare. “You come to me to the pool to learn how to swim.” First thing that came to his mind. She laughed. “That's beneficial to me. What about you? I could do your laundry for that time period or run errands.”
Carlos didn’t need those things to be taken care of. He did enjoy doing them himself after a long season. Just something a normal human can do. “I guess you could help out but I do enjoy doing these things myself.”
As she was throwing ideas at him and Carlos tried to decline, they had reached main streets. He had a particular smaller business in his mind where to take her. “Right this way. Even Though it’s out of the main street, the food is delicious.”
He stopped in front of a big old door that didn’t have any signs near it. “That? Are you sure? I don’t see any-” she was saying before he opened the door. “Yes, ladies first.” Carlos smirked as she stepped in. The interior was mind blowing. High ceilings, huge windows with a view to the sea. You couldn’t really see it all from the grand entry.
“Table for two please.” said Carlos and the waitress took them to one next to a window. Carlos held her chair like a gentelman. “I’ll be right back with your menus. Would you like something to drink?” She sounded sweet but held back for some reason. “Some water with lemon. Is that fine with you?” Carlos was asking that from his companion. “Of course.” Waitress nodded and went away.
“This place looks way too fancy. Look at the wallpaper they have. This is either Jane Claytons or I don’t know…” Carlos was a little shocked. He had a wide grin. “How or why do you know about wallpapers?” He was genuinely interested. “I'm a little into interior design and just like to know about history and products.”  Carlos put his elbows on the tabbed and held his head in his hands.
She told him more about her interests and job back in the other country. He would occasionally ask one or two things about her work. Finally the waitress came with water and menus. She told them about today's dishes and left.
The food was not on the cheaper side and made her anxious. How could she say no if she had asked him to choose the restaurant. She’ll live off noodles for the next few months. Nothing new really.
She had chosen the cheapest dish from the menu. Carlos had noticed that.“You know, if you’re concerned about the food then don’t be. It’s on me. Choose whatever you like.” She shook her head. “Mkm, no way. You have helped a lot today. The food is on me.” This went on back and forth til their food arrived. Carlos had convinced her in some circumstance–she would pay for the ice cream after lunch.
“I haven’t allowed myself a cheat day in a while. Thank you for the ice cream.” He was one of those who bite his ice cream instead of licking. She was licking it.
