Incredibly alarming that talks of “peace” in Gaza seem to extend no further than a ceasefire. How do you think they’re gonna start off where they left off themselves? Their houses are destroyed, so many have lost mothers and fathers and brothers and children, they still have no clean water and no food. Any area Israel withdraws out of is an area it already knows has been rendered inhospitable. There was even a direct quote by some IOF soldier gleefully stating how he “wasn’t sure Palestinians could go back to their homes.” So what happens when the US “succeeds at negotiating a ceasefire”? Who will be responsible for helping the Palestinians rebuild all that they’ve lost?

I want to go into the new year with a ceasefire, I want aid to reach Gaza, more than just what is needed, I want excess aid, more than they’d know what to do with, I want them to get help rebuilding, I want Palestinians to be safe and free.

Motaz posted a 22 minute video and here’s the takeaways:

- north Gaza is being heavily bombed. There are estimates say one person is killed every five (5) minutes.

- new massacre in jabalia, many killed with no media coverage (2 journalists were injured this morning.)

- no connection or food in the north, no food, only aid since the last pause

- Motaz has not showered for six days and others haven’t showered for weeks

- in two days, one Israeli drone came to Motaz’s home (and other houses) and it was able to kill and shoot

- there’s no food

- “you are waiting to die. This is what Gazans still alive now do. You are waiting to be killed,”

- everyday it gets worse

- aid does enter Gaza, but it is not enough. Israel won’t let a large amount enter.

- “you can’t help us, I’m sorry you can’t help us, you can’t do anything”

- he denied an interview from CNN since he does not want to be judged by people.

- “if you are human, you will share the videos, but don’t tell us you did something for us.”

- he works for UNRWAUSA, and those are the only people he trusts.

- people have been blaming him for not “doing enough/sharing enough”

- one thing in Arabic he says is “The death of Palestinians is easier than drinking water.”

RAFAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — More than half a million people in Gaza — a quarter of the population — are starving, according to a report Thursday by the U.N. and other agencies that highlights the humanitarian crisis caused by Israel’s bombardment and siege on the territory in response to Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack. The extent of the population’s hunger eclipsed even the near-famines in Afghanistan and Yemen of recent years, according to figures in the report. The report warned that the risk of famine is “increasing each day,” blaming the hunger on insufficient aid entering Gaza. “It doesn’t get any worse,’’ said Arif Husain, chief economist for the U.N.’s World Food Program. “I have never seen something at the scale that is happening in Gaza. And at this speed.” ... At the start of the war, Israel stopped all deliveries of food, water, medicine and fuel into the territory. After U.S. pressure, it allowed a trickle of aid in through Egypt. The "truce" had ended as of 20 minutes ago. This means the Israeli warplanes are already back to bombing all parts of Gaza and god knows what the next few days will look like

Just a reminder though that Israel never abided by the "ceasefire", and had in fact been shooting at Palestinians who were trying to make their way back to their homes in northern Gaza

I keep thinking about how the media frames Palestinian children, stripping them rhetorically of their childhood by convoluted phrases like 'people under 18' and 'minors as they call them'. I know this language. It is used for black children all the time. Black children aren't children. They're 'young men' and 'twelve-year-olds in adult bodies'. Colonial dehumanisation.

1) These Palestinians — children and adults — were not tried in civil courts. They were tried in military courts. Only Palestinians are routinely tried in military courts for minor offenses (which btw are decided by an OCCUPYING FORCE) like stone throwing, which makes this fundamentally a tool of apartheid. There are different legal systems for different people. By saying there is legitimacy to Israel's claims of then being "criminals", you are thereby admitting you find legitimacy in the apartheid that polices Palestinians.

2) You cannot be "against occupation" and not admit to an apartheid system that targets and segregated Palestinians — apartheid is a tool of the occupation. The support of imprisonment of children is not only morally reprehensible but also means you align yourself with the legal systems of Israel, which means you actually DO support the occupation.

Saying that you are "anti-occupation" and "anti-zionist" means nothing if you find legitimacy is the very system that controls and occupies Palestinians.

Israel has worked hard to portray Gaza as a barren wasteland, backwater that is a terrorist stronghold. In reality, Gaza is a beautiful city/region with a rich history that has been decimated from constant bombings and strangled by the blockade. So much of what is being destroyed by Israel are restaurants, bookshops, schools, universities, houses and much of what contributes to life in Gaza and people’s livelihoods. Places that are attached to and filled with the memories of Palestinians in Gaza. It’s not just about making life miserable for the people who live there, but about projecting a particular image of Gaza to the world. This is also similar to how the US has portrayed places like Afghanistan to justify its invasions.

A blogger in gaza, Amal alhenawi, shared a story yesterday explaining how the past few days have been. Of course there are no words to describe exactly how it is to live under constant bombardment.

She said that she misses sleeping alone in her room, instead of having to share a room with other 10 people. She said she feels guilty when she secretly admits she's terrified of death and that she wants to live. No internet, no food, sometimes when they get lucky each member of her family gets one loaf of bread for the day, other days there might not be anything to eat. She mentioned how everybody celebrated when her brother came back with water, but it tasted weird, turns out it was undrinkable but it was the only solution they had.

What horrified me the most, is when she talked about their neighbors building getting bombed by israeli air strikes. And how paramedics as well as civilian defense came to the scene only to leave minutes later. In their own words: "this building is four floors. We have no equipment to dig through or get anyone out." So they had to leave. People from the neighborhood started digging with their own hands, they could hear some people alive underneath, but no one could get out.

Amal talks about her two cousins who visited her and they're little kids who don't talk anymore. She said they saw their friend and neighbor dead, with his head sperated from his body, the trauma was too severe for them to process.

Amal wants to live. She came to gaza to celebrate her brother's wedding. Who was planning on leaving for his honeymoon before the genocide started.

Each person of gaza has a story, a life worth living. So we must end this genocide. Do everything you can, do not stop and do not get used to it. Annihilating an entire city is not normal and should never be.

Israel has striked another refugee camp, killing 50+ and it was reported that children were carrying other injured children to get to safety

No fucking offense but total offense but I wish I could tell everyone calling for a ceasefire to stop. The way jvp centers itself in leading palestinian discourse in america can be frustrating. We know what happens after ceasefires. The world turns away feeling relieved that the butchery is over "temporarily" but Gazans r still stuck in their cage.

During the ceasefire of 2014, the Obama administration sent israel more weapons.

In 2021, just hours after the ceasefire, israel was provoking hamas by attacking palestinians on al aqsa

Ceasefires last no longer than a day before israel does something to provoke hamas and then hamas responds and then the world blames hamas.

We want the disarming of israel, we want the decolonization of israel, it's complete dissolution will bring peace. I know ceasefire sounds good but it really isn't

It has been hard for me to talk about how what is going on with Israel and Palestine is affecting me personally, but I grew up in Gaza and most of my family still lives there. My father did not survive the bombings last week and I have not been able to contact my younger sister in days. I am try to being understanding that most people do not have personal connections to what is happening and therefore are justifying their silence, but is heartbreaking to see this misinformation being spread. What’s happening there is a genocide, not a war. It is not antisemitic to support Palestine, it’s not even antiemetic to criticise Israel. There is no grey area or neutrality regarding this, and it is so easy to find resources that will educate you on the subject. It is my people and my home being destroyed so I will never be silent about this, but I please urge everyone to get informed and start speaking up and finding ways they can help.

The dehumanization of Palestinians in mainstream media and news is massive, I have never seen it this bad in my entire life and it has been abhorrent long before this. It terrifies me to know how widespread it has become especially throughout the imperial core - however - I have also never seen this many people talk about Palestine, either. Palestinian liberation is something on a lot of people's minds now, solidarity efforts are global and I've seen people from all corners of the globe voicing their support. It's astounding
