explaining law's use of "-ya"

"-ya", used as law's own personal type of japanese honorific, isn't translated into a word in english because there's no equivalent.

in the manga, the "-ya" is written (albeit with kanji), as 【屋】 this kanji on it's own doesn't do much. you'll see it most often in things in relation to stores. ex. 「本屋」honya, understood in english as "a book store,"

law gets this 【屋】 from the word 「部屋」heya, literally means "room," pretty straight forward.

from the segments of law's novel I got to read, it seems the usage of "-ya" started before he had developed a good sense of his ope-ope no mi powers. he did use 'room' once (as far as what was written) to cure himself but. idk. take it as you will.

special note:

it's only corazón we see, in past and future, who gets the usage of an actual honorific, "-san". law truly carries cora-san in his heart.

New Years Headcanons!

happy. late. new year! weeeeee!!!!

he's that one exact person that would light fireworks casually on the street (the big ones) and just laugh when the chaos starts

has no idea what fire safety is + no singular thought of his own safety, not to mention other people's.

he will do the same thing to you😭 he thinks it's insanely hilarious he's not trying to be mean i promise

chopper had to take leave with usopp early so he could bandage his wounds properly

usopp did not let that slide

Luffy being the embodiment of chaos that he is, randomly overheard plans for a New Years party from some local citizens on the current island you guy's were stationed on, and decided to throw one of his own. He was mostly at it for the meat he knew was bound to be there. It (surprisingly) started off really well. On the side that the Thousand Sunny was docked on, he had chosen the nearest beach to hangout. The villagers planned to have a firework show aiming that direction so the beach was currently a bustling area. Luffy + already ongoing chaos doesn't mix well.

Before the firework show started, a bundle of children gathered around in a makeshift circle to play with some fire crackers and sparklers. It was honestly super cute to see, Luffy noticed your attention was partly focused on the kid's group and went to join the fun.

Sigh.

A kind little kid handed a sparkler to Luffy, it wasn't Luffy's first time with these things but he was still. Odd. At such a degree he held it at an unfortunate angle and set his own shirt on fire. Some other child yelled "stop drop n' roll" and it couldn't have gone more wrong.

He rolled into a compact pile of fireworks (thankfully decently far from the crowd- he rolled a long way💀) and the little flame that was still set ablaze caught contact with one little firework, and then went the rest. There was a lot of big booms and pops, as well as a blinding cloud of smoke. He got banned from touching anything firework related.

After being pursued away from the beach area, he gave up and decided to find the rest of your guy's crew. Chopper was with said rest of the crew, so he asked if you could take care of his injuries. You simply bandaged up some scrapes he got from hidden sharp rocks in the sand and put a little medicine from a first-aid kit on a few other things. Easy enough, he took you by the hand and made way to the streets of the nearby neighborhood.

In this area, things were much more tranquil thankfully. You sat down on the curb of the sidewalk and watched Luffy consult Nami about what had happened earlier. He got hit. Took it like a champ though and went to go play with Usopp and Chopper. He did invite you to come join their fun but, knowing him, something was ought to go wrong, you didn't really want any injuries of your own. Just in case, he left his signature straw hat with you :] Chopper shared some fire crackers with Luffy and taught him how they work. Usopp, as wonderful as he is, had created his very own 'special' firework. Bless his heart. There was no way in any shape or form it was going to go even a little bit well. That thought was right, around 5 minutes later fireworks were going here, there, and everywhere. There was a lot of screaming coming from Chopper, a lot of running from Usopp, and a absurd amount of hysterical laughing from Luffy (who was fortunately spared from any explosion wounds). Usopp.. not so much.

Turned out to be, somehow Luffy got Usopp to hold a firework in the midst of the chaos and he ascended💀 karma might get you 'cuz you did laugh a little. Chopper, once returned from a hiding spot, had to take Usopp to the Sunny to give him actual full-on medical attention. Usopp is now actively plotting Luffy's downfall.

Despite all the mayhem, Luffy made up for lost time by laying down on a hill and looking at stars with you. He doesn't know what is what, but he's totally happy to be with you in some kind of way. Soon after, the rest of the crew came to talk about their next steps on the wide vast journey of the New World, even though it was extremely odd and over-the-top, it was definitely something to remember. Happy New Year from 麦わらの一味/Straw Hat crew ❤︎

the 【すんじゃねェ】 comes from 「すんな」 as in a form of "don't" + 【事】 means "thing" or "matter"(as in a situation)
