Option 1:
Enemy: Heradecia and Cerenysus
Episode: C2 E41: Cerenysus
Time: 4:04-2:46:22
Finish: Fia (Cerenysus), Jabari (Heradecia)
Notes: 2 concurrent battles. 2 spellcasting enemies. 2 players juggling 2 PCs each. Surprise Lou and Hexbuds! Caldwell as Lake, Lou ass the spells. Emboldening bond and damage sponging. Living spells for Fia to fight. Jabari trapped in banishment with dry toads. Corbeau staying up and almost forgetting the death ward. Zirk's fucking crown removal and the deal he makes for his life. Hank breaking the curse. Tarragon's halfling abilities coming in clutch. Fia casts the first revivify in Eldermourne in centuries.
Propaganda: (anonymous) Fia won't fight Irina. The hexbloods are fighting their mom again. Lou Wilson voices the living spells. Caldwell gets to be the dog. Zirk fucking dies and then Fia tells hank to kill her girl(hood) friend it's all so crazy. It's 4 players and 6 PCs across 2 locations fighting 2 demigods and one demigod is kinda mind controlling the other. It's just a great final fight.
2 absolutely legendary encounters for the price of one. "Mr Henry, kill her" makes me weep every time. Also Lou Wilson as Bigby's Hand.
THE LOU REVEAL GETS ME EVERY SINGLE TIME. the back and forth. the emotional damage. everybody's playing multiple characters. Zirk is dying. "You took his death save?!" Caldwell 'playing' Lake the dog. Lou voicing the sentient spells and making wind noises. "What about the death ward?" truly the encounter of all time
Option 2:
Enemy: Thiala
Episodes: C1 E100: Heart of the World
Time: (ads) 58:56-2:41:30 (*used the ads version because it's two episodes on patreon so it wouldn't be a great timestamp)
Finish: Moonshine
Notes: Hardwon's insane first 2 rounds (almost 600 damage! and he does miss!! he does a total of 1,082 damage to Thiala in the entire fight and there are 2 rounds where he doesn't have a turn because he's unconscious!). Moonshine counterspells and then uses Chill Touch to make sure all of Hardwon's damage can stick. The flashback scenes that do psychic damage and enlighten the audience at the last minute on characters we hadn't seen a lot of. Bev goes Elder Champion and casts revivify as a bonus action. The terrain moves to in front of the Heart of the World where Melora and Telaine are holding the world together. Ulfgar and Alanis are used for their power by Thiala, and Galad is fucking back and Thiala's bestie. Erlin is freed by Handy Andy. "I'm gonna fucking eat her."
Propaganda: (anonymous) hardwon surefoot deals 582 points of damage against thiala in two rounds. that’s all
Murph's flashbacks to Elias Sr., Ol' Cobb, and the Legendary Heroes? Chef's kiss. Also riding into battle on flying elephants.

Option 1:
Enemy: High King Durretar, Ancient Blue Dragon of the Sapphire Scale
Episode: C3 E27: King of Dragons
Time: 48:48-2:11:35 (battle stops at 2:03:55 but initiative ends at the later time)
Finish: Princess Shiverblight
Notes: On 3, regicide! The level 8 party decides to fight an ancient dragon on their own when only one of them manages to long rest beforehand. The mechanics of this encounter include dragon riding and are so goddam cool. It's also incredibly visual and one of Murph's best uses of lair actions to date.
Propaganda: (anonymous) CMON ITS KING OF DRAGONS. SO SICK. genuinely from the bottom of my heart the most exciting, interesting, and cool encounter I've ever seen. Rad as hell both mechanically and plot wise. SHIVERBLIGHT SWEEP!!
MY SUPERBOWL OF DND FIGHTS!!!!! TRULY SO ICONIC AND FUN!!!! COMBAT OF ALL TIME
I mean, come on! It was a giant fucking sky battle on the backs of dragons, unbelievably cinematic, lots of close calls, princess shiver blight, nothing comes fucking close!
Princess Shiverblight MVP
you know.
it's just so sick and scary
Option 2:
Enemy: Lord Ultrus and the Order of the Runny Eye
Episode: C3 E44: Trial by Steel and C3 E45: Lord Ultrus
Time: 1:04:08 (44) - 1:42:08 (45)
Finish: Hardwon (traps Ultrus in the Kingshammer)
Notes: Hardwon starts the battle with a Battlemaster ability. Jaina and Calder finally get involved in a fight (from inside the helm!!). Callie joins them inside the helm, and Ultrus and the cultists keep swapping who is inside the helm and who is outside the helm. Hardwon has a real Hardwon moment of standing alone, facing down a god (or a giant who made a deal with a god and has the powers of a god, who was responsible for the death of his best friend). Sol does some shenanigans and kind of keeps missing but is also impossible to hit. Kenna keeps saving lives. I cannot actually describe in words the moment where Hardwon regains the Kingshammer, casts Spirit Guardians, and an army joins them, as we get to finally see Cobb's final moments and the memory that was stored in the hammer. Jake is playing 2 PCs wonderfully. Also: "Hardwon! Catch!"
Propaganda: (anonymous) Not only is the battlefield dynamic and engaging (having Ultrus and his cronies switching between battlefields, making it effectively two battles at once) it also has narrative emotional stakes and big character moments (Old Cobb’s last words to Hardwon).
(also this post)
The concurrent battles in the material plane and in the demiplane, Ultrus's ability to switch between the two so everyone got to fight both him and the warlock goons, the extra abilities stolen from the trapped prisoners, the mechanics for breaking out of the helm, HARDWON AND JAINA AND THE DWARF DADDIES
god i know so many people will add this one but i love it so much. the way they jump back and forth between the Trial by Steel and the fight inside the helm is SO GOOD. i still have goosebumps from Jaina throwing the queenshammer through the barrier and Hardwon catching it. also the stakes were SO HIGH it was FANTASTIC. 10/10 combat
HUGE!!!! ITS HUGE!!!!! omg where to even start with this. the rolls alone feels INSANE AGSHAJDJSKD. JAINA AND CALDER. THE MOMENT WITH THE KINGSHAMMER. CALDER SUCCESSFULLY TACKLING ULTRUS. HARDWON GETTING A 30 TO PUT HIM IN THE HAMMER. THE SPIRIT GUARDIANS???????? I CRIED
truly the epitome of murph encounters! two different battles waging at the same time, with different combat styles (one big enemy vs lots of weaker baddies) in different planes, that then switch so everyone gets to fight in every situation. great group of PCs and NPCs that make excellent choices (shoutout to jake for playing two characters at once!), tons of emotional beats, and a very satisfying narrative closure to the arc. gotta love it

Option 2:
Enemy: Dragon Wilhelm Bronzebeard, Marabelle's Pretender, Beverly Toegold IV
Episodes: C1 E81: Greed, Anger, Heresy
Time: 7:31-56:33
Finish: everybody gets their guy (Moonshine first, then Hardwon, then Bev)
Notes: 3 separate one on one battles. Moonshine has to save Paw Paw, defend her role as fungal queen, and her spores damage changes (permanently option to change as well) to adapt to the circumstance. She also finishes with the dope max damage mechanic from Blight. Hardwon has to fight a dragon with just his dads, the dragon steals his hammer so he finds the Bronzebeard one. Bronzebeard is rejected by the hammer, even when he has it, and Hardwon gets to prove that he's the better man, once and for all. Bev is fighting his dad. It's not great. He smites his dad, hastes himself, and crits because of his casino drink. He then goes unconscious and is brought back up due to his dad storing Lay on Hands in the Devil Book long ago. He then sends his dad to Shadowfell and the Dusk Mother.
Propaganda: (anonymous) i literally dont even feel the need to say anything about it because the encounter speaks for itself. it's absolutely incredible

Option 2:
Enemy: Undead Dragon, Wilhelm Bronzebeard, Pale Prince, Akarot, Rust Bronzebeard
Episodes: C1 E45: Kingshammer
Time: (ads) 38:36 - 1:45:58 (but don't stop there. fr)
Finish: Bev (Wilhelm* (*Technically killed by gravity but Bev did trip with him on his back), Dragon), Hardwon (Rust* (*given the option of catching him, refused), Pale Prince)
Notes: Hardwon faces his childhood bullies in the snow. Wilhelm casts Earthquake and turns things into a fall/chase encounter as everyone races for the Kingshammer. Moonshine jumps down immediately to play defense. Bev tries to kill Akarot, who just leaves, and then has to keep saving everyone. He ends up being the only one with decent HP at the end, and this fight is so close to a TPK. Hardwon gets the Kingshammer. Paw Paw has to do CPR on Balnor.
Propaganda: (anonymous) The fact that Murph was able to design this sheer number of factors and have it be balanced perfectly as a dire, near-deadly, but winnable fight, is so impressive. And those factors were so creative. There was the kingshammer falling 2d100 every round, and players able to run or fall to get to it, a complicated goal that invited gambling, sacrifice, and creative use of spells. There was major bad guy Akarot in his prime body, the pale prince, and a fucking white dragon. There was Wilhelm Bronzebeard and his shit nephew-son who wouldn’t pick a side. There was Toma and her wolf slowly steadily running down the mountain in the background lol. There was escalation that made the battle start before Wilhelm’s avalanche, navigated flexibly by Murph. He was not fucking around, throwing Bev’s amulet into the snow, and keeping track of so many enemies and their conflicting motivations as well as their mechanics. The imagery in my mind of the chaotic tumbling snow is so real, and the scene of the last conscious pc exchanging blows with a dragon was so fucking epic. And the terror at the end of genuinely not knowing whether they were going to have won the battle only to freeze to death. Such a thick sode, a chunky battle, an incredible narrative, such a cool encounter for an arc finale.

Option 1:
Enemy: Queen Ezra the Unkind
Episodes: C1 E57: Frozen Hearts
Time: 1:07:50-1:59:00
Finish: Hardwon
Notes: Ezra does mental probes and reveals things about party members while dealing psychic damage (Moonshine's dad is a high elf, Galad has Lydia in Shadowfell, Bev IV made a deal with Akarot). Moonshine's heals keep getting countered. Hardwon kisses Moonshine to help her. Hardwon also calls Bev his little brother when Bev goes down. Paw Paw gets really sad when Moonshine's heart is frozen.
Propaganda: (anonymous) I love fights that make the characters confront what they assumed and who they are and come out stronger from in. I also love fights that leave the characters completely exhausted physically and emotionally.
Option 2:
Enemy: Thiala
Episodes: C1 E100: Heart of the World

Option 2:
Enemy: Glen and the corrupted Old Folks' Circle
Episode: C3 E29: Crown of Dreams
Time: 43:30-1:27:38
Finish: none! The Old Folks escape and Glen just hangs out. Ultrus gets Calder.
Notes: poisoned. surprised. confused. stabbed. bitten. This was supposed to be a fast encounter where the Helm of Ultrus got stolen and that was it. And then Jake said "no." Glen is frazzled and losing it. Eloise's heel turn is completed. There's a hilarious bit about Callie and confusion while everyone is trying to subdue the Duck Team so they can get the helm. Calder decides to make the harder saving throw (and fight Ultrus inside the helm!) to keep Ultrus from Glen. Sol goes down, hard, and the Old Folks are supposed to not hit to kill. They haven't long rested since well before the King of Dragons fight at this point!! And, of course, "Ultrus. Make a deal with me."
Propaganda: (anonymous) moments of ever. the building tension. the accumulating failure. THE CLIMAX. it's everything
