So when someone says or does something that upsets me, I do my best to take a step back and work out if what they did was actually out of line or had bad intentions or if I’m just low/tired/over sensitive/in a bad mood or something else that means they did nothing wrong. I always do this in a professional context or with people that I don’t know well but I try to do it in my personal life too. I know most of my female friends do it too, that mini, is it me or them conversation that goes on in your head.
But recently, from talking to a couple of people and doing lots of observations, I’m beginning to think that men just don’t do that? It seems really weird to me and I don’t want to generalise but I really am beginning to think that men just skip the “is it reasonable to be upset by this” conversation.
So if you see this, could you do me a massive favour and reply with whether or not you do this and your gender.
My blog is small, so if you see this, please do reblog, even if you don’t want to answer the question.

Frankly, one of the things that makes me angriest about the post-MCU tumblr era is that you all want to act like Avengers Tower was made up out of wish fulfillment and Disney movie marathons.
Even setting aside that, at the end of Avengers, Tony was clearly planning that... uh... this is straight comics canon. This developed not out of fanon, but out of literal comics canon. In 616 canon, the Avengers only moved their base of operations to Stark Tower after the Avengers Mansion was destroyed.
Since the Avengers era of Cap and his delinquent children (ie, the second generation of the Avengers, starting with Cap, Pietro and Wanda, and Clint), many Avengers have lived in the same building. As the team grew, obviously, many of them had their own places... but a lot of them still fucking lived together, for years. This wasn't fandom fantasizing based off of college dorms, this was literal comics canon.
So acting like "2012 MCU Fandom" was stupid for writing as if Avengers Tower was a thing... I mean, it was called Stark Tower in the comics, but it existed as a thing in comics for years. Still does, actually, if nothing catastrophic has happened in the last few years since I stopped paying attention. Clint goes there to play video games sometimes. I'm convinced Tony's programmed all the games to lead him into absurd and impossible scenarios.
Tumblr media
...look this is the most "2012 Avengers fandom" thing I can think of, actual comics canon. Whether or not Avengers live in the Tower, they regularly come there to chill. Your condescension about the way MCU fandom wrote post-Avengers.... dude, the actual movie guided fandom in that direction, it aligns with comics canon far more than the weird distanced vibe we've got going on in current MCU... And I don't blame anyone who's managed to retain their love for the MCU for wanting to cling to that. Because frankly, it's a lot more fun and interesting. The reason we don't have the fun, interactive, deeply interconnected MCU that was implied at the end of Avengers (2012) is contracts and capitalism. That's it. Fandom was never delusional, they were responding exactly as expected. Turn your frustration to Disney/Marvel Studios for baiting the dynamic we get in comics when they never would have been able to provide that, instead of acting like fans who jumped on the ideas presented to them (AS FANS DO) are cringy and wrong by default.
If we're gonna gatekeep here, the MCU is the one that's really out of line. Just saying.

Today on Remembrance Day I wear a white poppy, not a red one.
I wear a white poppy because most of those whose lives are destroyed by war are not soldiers who signed up for it.
I wear a white poppy thinking about all the displaced.
I wear a white poppy thinking about the bereaved and the left behind.
I wear a white poppy thinking about the innocents who are slaughtered for no good reason. Afghani or Iraqi children and civilians killed by American drones, and Palestinian children and civilians killed by Israeli ones and of all the millions of innocents who have come before.
I wear a white poppy thinking of those dying of disease and starvation in refugee camps, prisoner of war camps, and concentration camps around the world.
I wear a white poppy thinking of the victims of war who drowned in the Mediterranean and the English Channel, desperately trying to reach safety and a better life.
I wear a white poppy, because most wars, in the history of the world, are pointless. Human beings dying and slaughtering each other for no good reason but the greed and pride of a few powerful people. Because the biggest sacrifice of most soldiers in conflict is that they died for nothing.
I wear a white poppy because while the Royal British Legion does excellent and vital work, it also lessens the governmental cost of caring for veterans and I have no intention of donating to an organisation that mitigates the financial cost of waging war.
I wear a white poppy because when I think of world war one, the brave sacrifice of a young man drunk on jingoistic rhetoric and national pride is a tragedy, but still less painful than sacrifice of the soldier who was bullied or conscripted in against their will, the child who died in the crossfire, the PTSD sufferer executed for cowardice because there was no understanding of the illness, or the stretcher bearer who’s conscience does not allow him to take a life, but will still do all he can to preserve it.
I wear a white poppy because I care deeply, and my Christian faith demands I act in the most loving way possible, and it is infinitely more loving to strive for peace, and mourn the forgotten victims of war, than it is to engage in the romanticisation and glorification or war, in any way, shape or form.
“If in some smothering dreams, you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil’s sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,—
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.” -Wilfred Owen

Natasha: James, you think every round fruit is a plum.
Bucky: No I don’t.
Natasha: [holding up cherries] What are these?
Bucky: Tiny plums.
Natasha: [points at pumpkins] And what are those?
Bucky: Halloween plums.

little things I loved about the Black Widow movie
(Or: things that made me realize the influence of a female lead project)
- all the girls had their hair up in most of the fight scenes, whether in a ponytail or braid (Yelena’s wraparound Dutch braid was so cool)
- The makeup!! Mainly that Natasha seemed barefaced for most of the movie, and Yelena’s eyeliner was smudged and smoked out, not perfectly in place. Would have made no sense for Nat to have a full face while on the run, and the movie acknowledges this.
- when Natasha takes her shirt off to change in the Budapest safe house, it’s not a sexualized moment. We don’t see her cleavage, or have a shot that lingers on her chest. Instead it’s used for Yelena and the audience to see the bruises on her back (and we even see a little of the fat on her hips poking above her jeans, because she’s an adult woman who has curves dammit)
- a lot of (but sadly not all) of the Widow suits are more practical in their necklines. Especially Yelena’s suit with her tactical vest over top. Even the suits that have a lower neckline don’t try to draw attention to cleavage
All around, A+ to Cate Shortland and the Black Widow creative team for telling an amazing story about surviving abuse and found family, while also treating the women in their story with respect.

on my winterwidow bullshit
I have this head canon that Natasha and Bucky actually did have a romance in the MCU off screen that was never fully confirmed. And the reason why this random (admittedly, forced) romance between Natasha and Bruce sparked up in age of ultron was because she was trying to get herself to move on from Bucky after seeing him once again because feelings must’ve been stirred up. In one of the comics, the winter soldier is the one who trains the widows, and we see in CA: civil war that the winter soldier trains other super soldiers, so this could be a nod towards the training he’s done in other situations. Ofc in the comics they erase her memory of him because romance was a BIG no no for a widow in training, but given that she still holds onto pretty much every other major memory she has, the head canon still could fit that somehow somewhere along the way she regains these memories. Not to mention, Sebastian stan has stated very clearly before that there is a part of the winter soldier’s story that directly involves Natasha. Personally, I feel like there were plenty nods towards a romance between the two, especially because the winter soldier directly ties into Natasha’s past in a way that is never truly confirmed. These little sentences that they throw in, like when Melina brought up the winter soldier program in the black widow film, it just feels like they left enough room for this sort of interpretation.

loved in black widow when yelena and nat both looked straight at the camera and said “fuck you joss whedon, don’t romanticize our extremely violating hysterectomies, we’ll instead describe it in detail to make you uncomfortable” genuinely so rewarding

I love this so much, except it was Anastasia’s sister Maria’s body that was missing from the grave. I have a similar head canon to this, Maria was known for flirting with the soldiers at the compound, in my head canon one helped her escape and Natasha Romanoff is the daughter of Grand Princess Maria Romanoff and a Bolshevik soldier, a true daughter of warring ideologies and different worlds.
Anastasia Romanov was born in 1901 and if she wasn’t executed with the rest of her family in 1918, and managed to escape, she could have given birth in 1928, Stalingrad, Russia. She could have thrown her baby out the window when nazis set the house on fire and a soldier named Ivan Petrovich could have found the child and secretly raised it. The child could’ve grown up, then taken place in the Soviet Governments Experimental Program called “Red Room,” to save the man who raised her. The girl could’ve been trained as a spy and been given super soldier serum. The last living descendant of the Royal Romanov family of Yekaterinburg, Russia, could be Natalia Romanova a.k.a Natasha Romanoff. In this essay I will-

In two days and 4 hours I will be watching the Black Widow film in the cinema. It took me a while to get over my anxiety of going to the cinema in case I’m asked to self isolate afterwards and I have to cancel birthday plans, but I am so happy I bit the bullet and went for it.
I have been looking forward to this film for at least two years and I’ve seen every marvel film except Ant Man 2 the day it comes out since civil war.
I’ve only had one shot so maybe I’m making a mistake, maybe it’s an unnecessary risk but it’s probably the only time I’ll go to the cinema for the next three months and I’m choosing to wear a mask, take hand sanitiser, and enjoy the film.
BTW I might post about the film when I’ve seen it, if I do so I will tag it ‘black widow film
spoilers’. I know I get to see it two days before it comes out in America and most of the world so if you follow me, please block that tag on the off chance I decide to post about it immediately. There’s a maybe 40% chance I’ll choose to do so.

In my head I have a Nat fic, a hurt/comfort one set in the five year gap in Endgame. Steve, Rhodey and Carol notice that she’s working herself to the bone, trying to save everyone and run everything from headquarters, so they conspire to help her take care of herself.
I haven’t decided how but they drop her off at Tony and Peppe’s to stay with them and two year old Morgan. Slowly and delicately, with supportive visits from friends, she becomes Auntie Nat again. She processes her grief over Laura and the Barton children, Wanda, and Clint who is alive but lost to her. She and Tony bond over what it’s like to lose a child who is both your own and not.
Eventually, healed and whole, and newly equipped with skills for work life balance, she returns to the Compound and continues her calling, there are still hard days, but there is now more peace in her work.
