A randomly updated list of plot elements and theories that run wild in my head

The following is a list of BNHA plot elements, in no specific order, that are still unresolved at current chapter (or, at least, that I consider unresolved).

This post is totally open to suggestion :D

I plan to update it whenever I feel ;)

HIGH PRIORITY:

1. How did Shigaraki solve to put Star and Stripe's quirk "New Order" under control? > Solved in vol. 34: New Order dissolved on itself but it caused Tenko to regain some level of consciousness > And in chapter 413 S&S's embers in AFO were able to reach both All Might itself and Yagi's vestige to let them know about the only weakness existing in Shigaraki, and I LOVE this turn of events.

2. Why did AFO do all of this? What are his reasons and origin? > We got his reasons in chapters 407-408 but I'm not totally convinced that he chose an apprentice just for the sake of having a new body

3. Will Deku be able to reach Tenko?

4. Who is going to survive? At the moment I think these are the name at risk right now:

. Bakugo > confirmed alive in 403 . All Might > still alive in 404, confirmed alive in 405 . Toga . Dabi . Hawks . Endevour . Edgeshot > still alive in 405 . Fat Gum

6. What is Ojiro's, Sato's and Sero's whereabout?

7. What is Eraserhead, Present Mic and Kurogiri's whereabout?

OPTIONAL STUFF

1. How was it possible for Yoichi to pass OFA to the second user? (i.e. how did he realize that he could pass his quirk?) > I'm not crossing this one out for we still don't have an explanation from Yoichi's perspective; however in chapter 408 is suggested that it happened the day Yoichi died and Kudoh has felt off ever since. I want to add that we don't know of any organic exchange from Yoichi to Kudoh, my opinion about it below.

2. Is Deku's father ever going to make an appearance? I know, I know that, aat this late point in the story, he can only be either AFO himself or noone interesting, but still, why did Horikoshi mentioned that Izuku's father would appear at some point in the story? Did he change his mind?

3. Is this picture ever going to make sense?

For further explanation, this seems to be a partial picture that was present at a BNHA exposition in Japan but, to my knowledge, does not have an explanation. > The full art, however, showed Aoyama, so it might be a hint about Aoyama's role? I'm not convinced and therefore I'm keeping this point active.

4. Why AFO needed Shigaraki's hatred? (Rif. chapter 311. For further explenation see section "Open theories", n. 3) > In chapter 410 it seems that Shigaraki is now able to steal, if not the whole OFA, at least singular quirks in it but it stays unexplained how or why.

5. Are we going to see Deku and Bakugo face each other one last time?

OPEN THEORIES (that I enjoy or consider interesting for some reason)

1. Dad for one (alias All for one is actually Deku's father) > With the flashback we had in chapter 407-408, it seems to me that, even though it is possible that AFO had intercourse with women, I just can't see him actually marry someone, and Inko mentioned her "husband" while discussing Izuku's lack of quirk; however, it is still possible that she called him that way just for the sake of appearences or that they actually married for some reason. I don't know, I really don't like this theory but I understand the appeal of it.

2. Decay is not Shimura Tenko's original quirk > Again, AFO's death in 410 might cross this one out but I'm still suspicious about the man in 235 that brought Tenko back home.

3. Shigaraki can actually take One for All quirk without Deku's will > confirmed in chapter 410, even though we still don't know how or why.

4. Deku is suppressing his emotions > Pikahlua wrote an amazing perfect explanation about this theory and I'm convinced they're right.

5. Two for one (alias One for all is passed on both Izuku & Katsuki) (404) > I think we can call this one discarded.

6. AFO is (related to) the Luminescent baby (405) > Confirmed in 407 and even though I said I was not a fan of this one, AFO stealing his quirk out of crave makes much more sense than and I love it.

7. Izuku will replace OFA with:

7b. New Order (412) and it has to do with Star & Stripe arm > New Order is confirmed destroyed in chapter 413

7c. Nothing, he'll go quirkless again. (This is the only one I actually like) 7c-i. But his use of OFA has already created a vestige in OFA and Kudoh is planning to let Shigaraki steal OFA in order to gain access to Tenko's memory and finally start to connect with is soul and therefore to save him. > partly confirmed in 413, the only difference being that Kudoh actually plans to smash Shigaraki with OFA. 7c-ii. But, following the empty glass/full glass theory, Shigaraki won't be able to keep it for too long, without facing problem (like the 4th dying of old age at 40). >

8.OFA only transfer out of will, while hair or any other organic material just served to picture the passage in one's mind. I decided to delete the whole reasoning behind this idea but you can still read it in my chapter 412 update.

8a. As an alternative possible explanation, since OFA started stocking extrapower and multiple quirks, even though at the beginning a physical transfer was not required, it eventually became mandatory. (Like, email can only have attachment up to N Mb, in order to transfer bigger file you need a physical drive).

This is an incomplete list (apparently I love lists) of details scattered throughout the 1st season (still working on the 2nd, my head needs some rest) which seems to be either: hints to a deeper truth; red herrings; mistakes; meaningless details not to be taken seriously (except, in time traveling story, messing with dates and times would be silly, it shouldn’t happen, right? RIGHT??)

Unfortunately, at the moment I am unable to collect screenshot of the episodes as reference, but if you request them I can produce the timestamp.

Episode 1

Emma’s mother sends her a message at 02:47 of the 15th April 2021. The phone states “Wednesday”. Too bad April 15th 2021 was a Thursday. Why, Why Wednesday. Is that a mistake? Was it meant to say that they live in a different timeline? Is it a hint that shows that Time is already broken?

I had my timeline all done and to simplify it, I was sure that: - 14th at 22:00 – 16apr!CXS dives in Emma - 15th at 10:00 – 17apr!CXS dives back in the present - 16th, before evening – QL states the mission - 16th at 22:00 – CXS dive in 14apr!Emma - 17th at 10:00 – CXS dives back and LG pass the info on the fraud to the client. - 17th, Later that day, the fraud makes into the daily news - 17th evening – Emma goes home, finds spring rolls and blankets, calls her mother, meet Liu Min - 18th at dawn, Emma dies. - 18th evening, LG see the news about her death until I realized that the consensus is that the news about the fraud came out on the 15th already, which would make sense with her not seeing CXS message before coming back home and her parent arriving straight away. But then, How could the news about the fraud reach the public before Shiguang were involved? Another time traveler? A mistake? Which timeline makes more sense? I’m not sure anymore. Is it important? Most probably.

Emma's wristwatch consistently marks times inconsistent with the timeline, which I will just tag as “random watch pics, do not read too much into it” and move on, but I feel I still need to acknowledge them.

Episode 2

Now, I have nothing much to say about this episode, except that it seems to be completely separated from the main plot, every episode is strongly affecting the whole story, why this one does not? They could delete it without affecting the overall plot and it weirds me out, probably because I’m a little bit too paranoid at this point.

Episode 3-4-5

Three major problems with these episodes:

Obviously, the glasses issue: at first I indeed thought it was weird, but then we saw Liu Min walking easily while possessed, so I thought that, somehow, the possessor retains its physical characteristics while diving. But then, episode 12 kindly reminded us of this glasses detail. So what’s going on here? Are physical abilities passed down while diving or not? And in that case, what’s happening, someone put lenses on Chen Xiao? The glasses were not his? Is there someone else possessing him?

Why is Chen Xiao the only one actively asking to change the past? Any other case has always been just about retrieving information.

And why does LG accept? Because I’m definitely not buying that the only crucial node is the actual earthquake. After the dive, Chen Xiao should feel less guilty about that day, and therefore he has no reason to look for the “Fairy” in the first place. Isn’t there a time paradox through and through?

Episode 6-7

Why the date on the Security Camera is 20XX/XX/XX 14:48:12 instead of an actual date? What’s the secret here? Was it meant to hint that time is already broken (again) or was this an easy way to stalling because the authors had yet decided the days of the trip?

IF we agreed that, while diving, past and present time flows at the same speed, the two dives in these episodes overlap in present time:

first dive starts on October 13th at 14:30 in the present and presumably on 20XX/XX/XX at 14:30 in the past, the kidnapping seems to have occurred at 14:55, both in the past and in the past. We can presume that this dive ends way before the 12 hours limit was reached.

second dive begins right before the kidnapping, which again I presume happened on 20XX/XX/XX at about 14:55, then CXS awakes and LG states that the 12 hours period is almost done; the dive ends on October 14th at 02:55, which seems to suggest that the second dive started on October 13th at 14:55 BUT at that time CXS was still inside the first dive.

What’s happening here?? Am I wrong? Is time wrong? My goodness

Episode 8

This one drives me nuts for really no reason, I’m not even sure if I’m correct, BUT on the dial of Dong Yi’s wristwatch watch you can read what appears to be a 15 inside the box where, as far as I know, the day of the month is usually shown. IF this assumption is correct, Dong Yi’s watch marks that it is the 15th, while XSS’s phone marks that is October 21st.

Again, Why? Just why are they messing with our head?

Episode 9

Nothing new on this episode but, if only, this episode proofs that diving doesn’t need to start at the exact time the picture or video was taken, because CXS’s dive occurs somewhere between the 10:00 and the 14:45 of October 21st, while the dive’s time seems to be late evening (from more that 2 hours prior 22.34). Does this solve the issue with episodes 6 and 7? Not sure.

Episode 10

I’ll use this episode to address the elephant in the room: the 10:10 ghost clock!

The photo studio seems to have at least 2 clocks, one on the hall, with a red frame, plus another one in the darkroom.

However, a third ghost clock with a white or blueish frame switches place with the other 2 every now and then. The red clock seems to be working fine, the darkroom clock seems that either it stopped or it is 10 minutes off, the ghost clock always marks 10:10.

WHAT is this clock?! Is this a random clock picture just to fill the scene? Is it a hint that something happened at 10:10?

I, I… I’m lost.

Episode 11

I won't address Lu Guang's thought at the end of this episode but I'll leave them for my season 2 analyses, because they fit there better.

Therefore, nothing much is left to say about this episode, except that the darkroom wall with the clock keeps changing aspect (and even the clock disappears at some point).

But, just for the sake of my mind I will tag this as “do not read too much into this one” and, again, move on with my life.

And this was just season 1, I have no idea how mad it’s going to be during season 2.

So, I watched Link Click for the first time a few days ago.

And it's been haunting me ever since.

Like, I am spending every single moment of my free time (and more) exhaustingly rewatching every single frame of every single episode in search of...I don't know...answers of some kind. But if only, I’m finding more questions. My mind is going to explode so soon if I don’t calm down.

Please help.

Also, I’m pretty sure I’m going to write everything down at some point but, having discovered this story so late, I fear that every detail, every question, and every theory I could raise has already been abundantly analysed, answered, or refuted by fandom.

I will try to proceed as cautiously as possible, but I apologise if I inadvertently repeat what you have already written, it was not intentional.

P.S. - Sooo, life happened and I couldn't find a moment to review my "open theories" list.

Since my last update (regarding chapter 405), we received pretty much a tremendous amount of new details and events. First of all, AFO actually died. Now, his death could mean that any theory about him is no longer on the table but I am not so sure, which is why you'll still find them listed.

Also, this post has become way longer that I planned it to be but it can't be helped, I have so much to say and so little time and ability to say it in an efficient (and grammarly correct) way.

.Bakugo and Izuku being both hinted as All Might successors, but this could just be meant as a symbolic Legacy instead of an actual quirk . All Might vestige in Bakugo's mind in chapter 362, which I get is still suspicious but I consider it not enough, at least right now . Second movie being labeled as canon, which is true but A. in the movie is also mentioned that OFA decided on its own to stay with Izuku and B. I just don't find sensible that such an important subplot is only mentioned outside the manga and C. if that was the case we should see Bakugo's vestige in Izuku's OFA world as well . Bakugo's sparks in 360. We now know that those parks were in fact Explosion's evolution.

6. AFO is (related to) the Luminescent baby (405) > I'm not a fan of this theory but the fact that AFO has been referred to as "glowing" three times in the recent chapters makes me wonder. > Confirmed in 407 and even though I said I was not a fan of this one, AFO stealing his quirk out of crave makes much more sense than and I love it.

7. Izuku will replace OFA with:

7a. His own personal quirk that, similarly to Yoichi's one, was so unformed to be practically useless but grew up thanks to OFA. 7a-i. If we believe the DFA theory, his quirk might be an evolution of AFO or OFA has always had the ability to take quirks but OFA's user never tried or even think it was possible.

7b.New Order (412) and it has to do with Star & Stripe arm

7c. Nothing, he'll go quirkless again. (This is the only one I actually like) 7c-i. But his use of OFA has already created a vestige in OFA and Kudoh is planning to let Shigaraki steal OFA in order to gain access to Tenko's memory and finally start to connect with is soul and therefore to save him. 7c-ii. But, following the empty glass/full glass theory, Shigaraki won't be able to keep it for too long, without facing problem (like the 4th dying of old age at 40).

8.OFA only transfer out of will, while hair or any other organic material just served to picture the passage in one's mind. > I've always thought it was illogic that Yoichi, without knowing it, was able to figure out that he could pass his quirk by letting someone ingest hair, blood or whatever. Like, he didn't know he had a quirk with such an ability in the first place, how could this be possible? It might only have happened (and from 408 we now know it indeed happened) by chance, because Yoichi wanted his brother to be stopped so much he instinctively activated his own quirk and the transfer occurred. Now, we know that: a. Kudoh has felt weird ever since AFO's assault, b. on that assault, Kudoh was running away while holding Y's hand, c. Yoichi was killed while they were running How is it possible that, in such a dire moment, Kudo ingested anything? I strongly believe he didn't and therefore, OFA can transfer only throuh will, no other element is required.

I was thinking about how the only way Hori could have Izuku secretly be in love with Katsuki and make it make sense is if he takes his POV away. He’s the narrator. You’d expect to have access to his thoughts about everything. So if he’s in love with Katsuki…we’d know..right?

So if we had access to Izuku’s thoughts the whole time about EVERYTHING, hearing nothing about his feelings and then suddenly revealing he loves Katsuki, would come out of nowhere and would be kinda weird. Like if he loves him, why did he never think of him romantically?

But if Hori removed Izuku’s pov entirely and started giving us zero thoughts..then he can reveal Izuku’s feelings later..together with all the thoughts he’s taken away before. It wouldn’t come out of nowhere when you realise his pov regarding Katsuki has slowly been taken away..

Soon after Dvk2, Izuku began realising his feelings aren’t exactly platonic and black whip nailed it down..that’s why after that, we don’t get any more insight into his thoughts about Katsuki.. we go from full monologues, to unfinished sentences and finally, only face expressions.

This is the BIGGEST GIVEAWAY Izuku’s feelings are romantic!

And we’ll most likely go back and see what went on in Izuku’s mind during all the big moments where all we had were face expressions. Because those were the biggest ever bkdk developments that Izuku gave us zero intel on and it’s necessary.

Because in all these moments, Izuku’s thoughts were ROMANTIC. Whatever he thought when Katsuki found him under the rain, whatever he thought when Katsuki almost died.. when he apologised.. when Izuku saw his body with an all might card next to him.. If we had access to izuku’s thoughts here in these moments, we’d know Izuku is IN LOVE with Katsuki.. and we weren’t supposed to know. Not yet at least. And so Hori didn’t show us Izuku’s thoughts. There is NO OTHER REASON he would do this. It’s not like Izuku stopped caring.

It’s not like Kacchan isn’t important.. the whole last battle has been set up to be around them.. Kacchan has been confirmed to be Izuku’s closest one.. targeted because of that.. Izuku keeps losing control of his heart still… It’s Hori HIDING SOMETHING FROM US!

But this is brilliant because like I said.. the reveal of Izuku’s feelings will make sense this way. Because it will be backed up with past moments. Shonen mangas always do this where MC doesn’t reveal his feelings till the end. But it’s always poorly executed. It comes out of nowhere, it’s never explained why the MC was oblivious or how they got together in the first place..they’re just somehow married in the end. But the way Hori is doing it, is VERY SMART. He put his own spin on the “oblivious MC” trope and it will MAKE SENSE.

It’s not that his narration is gone entirely. We have inner thoughts about other people, including Ochako. But he never thinks anything romantic of her. In fact, he thinks about his heroism. He thinks of his class. “This is the story of how WE ALL became the greatest heroes.”

Because there’s nothing to hide from us regarding her. But his thoughts about Katsuki are entirely off limits to us. We get NOTHING. Notice how here as soon as Katsuki shows up.. the narration is GONE. All we have is a face expression..

As I said, Izuku also has narrations during Ochako’s speech and again we know he doesn’t think anything romantic. But we don’t have ANY access to his thoughts while Katsuki is apologising. But we do see his maximised pupil. Closeups.. expression…details are IMPORTANT TO HORI!

So Izuku’s thoughts being entirely gone about Katsuki and Katsuki only lately..is the biggest giveaway for me that he is in love with him. Hori is doing this because there’s something he will reveal later. Just like how Ochako’s thoughts about Izuku have been hidden lately.

Because there’s a twist down the line. One that’s not typical for shonen.. with both of them. And I CAN’T WAIT FOR IT.
