Here's a hot take:

For all those people out there, making another huge dealio about the newest Overwatch character being a white, possibly straight female, and complaining about equal representation, let's do a little bit of math comparison...

Currently, Overwatch's playable character count is 29. Breaking that down, there's:

5 characters of Asian decent (includes Genji, since he is a cyborg and not an Omnic);

13 characters of Caucasian decent;

6 characters falling under PoC (Latino and African decent);

3 Omnic characters; and

2 non-human characters.

Overwatch even has members of the LGBT community in the forms of Tracer, McCree, Mei, and Hanzo.

Not including the Omnic and non-human characters, Overwatch is 54.2% white, and 45.8% minority. If we include the Omnic and non-human characters as minorities, Overwatch becomes 44.8% white, and 55.2% minority.

And if it's to be believed that all but the aforementioned above 4 are straight, Overwatch is 13.7% LGBTQ+.

For the sake of this whole argument, we're gonna use the population of the United States of America for comparison, since that's where the main bulk of people complaining about equal representation come from. In the USA today, there's 325.7 million recorded inhabitants, and when broken down, there's:

63.3% of people who are Caucasion;

12.5% of people who are PoC (Black or African decendant);

4.8% of people who are Asian;

1.9% who are 2 or more races (including them because, let's be honest, if they're part white and a minority, they're gonna identify as their minority half 75-90% of the time); and

16.7% of people who are Hispanic or Latino.

So, the USA is 63.3% white, and 46.7% minority.

On top of that, only 4.5% of all Americans identify as LGBTQ+.

Already, the game is more "diverse" by today's social standards, even when factoring out the characters with no definitive racial background. Overwatch provides more than equal representation for both minorities and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

So, from the people who just wanna play the game and enjoy the characters, without overanalyzing every single new character pumped out by Blizzard,

STOP MAKING SUCH A FUSS ABOUT EQUAL REPRESENTATION WHEN YOU DAMN WELL HAVE IT AND MORE
