READ PART 1 HERE
In part one...
"Wait a minute. Wait a minute." Y/N started panicking.
"Listen to me. You've got to have these experiences on your own."
"Wait a minute." Was this really happening?
"I can't to be there with you."
"Wait a minute. Are you breaking up with me?" Y/N voice broke.
"I'm setting you free." and there it was.
"Oh, my God." Y/N couldn't breathe properly, it was like someone was choking the life out of her.
"Look, d-do you know how hard this is for me? How many times have I've cried about this?" Steve face was getting red from all the emotion, tears were forming in too.
"No, I'm not going. I'm not going, not without you." Y/N wouldn't give up. She would never give up on Steve.
"You don't have a choice; I can't come with you."
"Well, then I'll stay here! I'll go wherever it is that you're going!" Y/N felt like begging right now. A life without Steve? That sounded like literal hell.
"Fort Benning, Georgia? Look, I-I need a chance to try and redeem myself, okay?"
That's when something clicked in Y/N's mind.
"I-I... Oh, my God! Oh, my God, wait a minute. You're joining the Army? Are you insane?! I can't believe that this is happening right now."
"It's also one of the places I knew you couldn't follow me. Look, you're-you're gonna get on that train. Okay? And you're gonna go to New York, and you're gonna be a star. Without me. That's how much I love you. You know what we're gonna do? Surrender. I know how hard that is for you because of how hard you hold on to stuff. But-but we're just gonna, we're gonna sit here and we're just gonna let go. Okay, and-and let the universe do it's thing. And if we're meant to be together, then we're gonna be together. Whether it's in a little shoebox apartment in New York or on the other side of the world. Okay? Will you do that with me? Will you surrender?" Steve said while trying to keep the tears out of Y/N's face.
Y/N felt numb by now. "I love you so much."
"I love you."
-----------------------------------------------------------
It's been exactly two months since Y/N and Steve last saw each other. Move on, they say...so they were. or at least trying to.
As you probably know, one Jonathan Byers also got into NYU, he almost didn't apply but when his mother assured him everything was going to be okay…well how do you argue with Joyce Byers? So yeah, Y/N and Jonathan ended up being roommates. Y/N was in their new apartment which she rented from her boss upstairs from the 50's theme restaurant. Some people sure liked living in the past.
Jonathan was in his weekly call with his brother, Will when Y/N couldn't help but overhear what they were saying while she prepared some dinner.
“They said Y/N L/N was the group's undisputed star, so, really, the only question is: Which one of you is the new Y/N?” Jonathan teased, knowing it would get a rise from all the boys who were probably hanging out in Mike's basement.
I am. - I am.
I am.
Y/N couldn't help but grin at that. She loved those kids like her own brothers.
“It's nice to know I'm missed. New York can make a girl feel lonely” said Y/N once she heard Jonathan say his goodbyes.
Jonathan turned around to face her when he noticed her overthinking face.
“What's on your mind?” he asked carefully.
Y/N didn't hesitate. She needed someone to talk to. “I miss my parents. I miss Steve. I haven't heard from him in two months.”
She kept pacing around the living room like she was in a hurry. “Maybe he's just trying to give me the space I need to make it on my own. Surrender, right? I'm sure that's it.” She said that last part mostly to herself.
Truth is Y/N loved NYU but she would be lying if she said she never felt lonely there, or that she missed Steve…
---------------------------------------------------------
Y/N was waiting outside campus for her next class when she decided to look through the stack of pictures of her life at Hawkins when she came across one of her and Steve at their senior prom. She couldn't help but wonder-
“That your boyfriend?” said Trent, like he didn't already know the answer.
That’s Y/N`s only friend at NYU aside from Jonathan by the way.
That made Y/N look up and get out of her thoughts, one specifically, her last conversation with Steve.
“Hey…Yeah, this is Steve. He's in the Army, so we really haven't been talking much lately.” Y/N was trying to find strength in her voice, acting like everything was just perfect.
“I had a girlfriend back home when I first started at NYU. Yeah, we lasted six weeks.”
She furrowed her eyebrows. Was that supposed to mean something?  “No, that's not gonna happen to us. I'm not gonna turn my back on him.”
“Oh, nobody said you should. Anyway, I came to tell you that you killed it in Carter's class. Nice job.” Trent gave her one of his award winning smiles or should I say girl winning smiles.
“Thank you.” Y/N couldn't help but blush. She would be lying if she said it had been easy.
“You know, it's just, other than when I was giving the presentation, I've just really never felt as amazingly wrong as I do here. Just all alone. Kind of feel like I'm just gonna throw up all the time.”
Trent sat next to her. This seemed to be going into a much deeper conversation than intended. “Well, it's just because you're becoming a different person. That's why you came to New York. To be that new and improved girl.”
Y/N finally looked up to see his face, she was too shy to make eye contact, just to find him looking at her firmly, as if he was admiring her.
“Don't fight the new you. Because from what I've seen, she is gonna kick some serious ass. And start adding new memories to the old ones. Walk you to class?”
Seems like NYU wouldn't be too bad after all right?
Later that week....
Y/N and Jonathan decided to order some take out as usual.
“Oh, New York Domino's is so much better than Hawkins Domino's.” said Jonathan like he'd never had pizza before in his life.
“It's the water. So have you heard from Steve at all?” Y/N thought she was being smooth there but...who was she kidding really?
“Not since you asked me yesterday.” Truth is Jonathan kept more in touch with Hawkins than Y/N, his brother was there, plus how could you forget Nancy Wheeler? Not only was she his girlfriend but also the source of every time Y/N asked Jonathan about Steve.
“He's just giving you your space.”
Y/N sighed. “I know.”
Next day...
After a long day at school Y/N was enjoying catching up with her shows, Miami Vice in particular when the doorbell rang and Jonathan answered the door.
“Hey. Uh, I'm Trent.”
“I'm...Jonathan.”
“Hi.”
Jonathan turned around to see Y/N already getting up and looking surprised, he suddenly felt the need to get out of the apartment. Asap.
“I was just going to go get some food. Uh...I'll leave you two alone.”
And with that Jonathan was out the door.
“Wow. This is huge. Too bad it took me 45 minutes on the train to get here. I've lived here for three years, and I didn't even know there was a "J" train.” said Trent while looking over the place.
Y/N kept getting surprised by the guy. “Wait, you took the train for 45 minutes just to come and see me?”
“Yep. Sandwiched between some guy who said he was Jesus and two German tourists who were very lost. But I came here to give you this orchid. Apparently, it's good luck in a new place. And they're kind of sexy--for a plant.”
That made Y/N giggle. She hadn't giggled in a while now. “Thank you.”
“Oh, and I, uh... I wanted to tell you something that didn't feel appropriate over a phone call.” We all know where this is going right?
“What?”
Trent started getting nervous and he wasn't the type to get nervous. “That I... I really like being around you. And I think that you...I think that you're really hot. And…”
“Oh...I can't.” Y/N said feeling this totally wrong even if nothing was happening between them and she indeed was single...kind of?
He kept going though.
“I think you are amazing and-and...beautiful, truly beautiful.”
“I just…” how could she turn him down with kindness?
“You're still in love with your boyfriend. Here's the thing-- I...I will respect your boundaries, but just know that when we're together, whatever we're talking about, whatever we're doing, I'm thinking of kissing you. Enjoy the orchid.”
And just like that Trent was out of the apartment leaving Y/N speechless. Not "I like you" speechless but...speechless.
Two months later...
It's been two more months and there was no sign of Steve. Y/N still thought of him every day but she started living her life too. Yeah, it's been four months since she moved to New York yet Trent and Jonathan seem to be her only close friends in the place. And after that awkward confession Trent gave Y/N everything cooled down. Which brings us here, Y/N`s apartment where she invited Trent over for dinner.
“Oh, my God…” Y/N said when she smelled the burning in her kitchen.
“Wow. You're smokin'.” Trent couldn't help but flirt a little. Y/N got used to it though, it kinda reminded her of Steve's flirty personality which she missed greatly.
“Oh, it's actually the pasta.”
“No, no. It's, it's you.” he said, smirking at her, hoping it would make her blush like all the other times he paid her a compliment.
“Come on. I really wanted to cook you dinner, but this is what you get. Pizza.” said Y/N while getting a cardboard box from the kitchen.
“This is; this is good-” of course he would try to reassure her.
“A girl has never cooked me dinner before.”
“I don't believe you.” Y/N was narrowing her eyes, Trent was attractive, everyone with eyes could see that, so yeah, that was a shocker.
“No. No one has ever even tried.”
“Well, I'm trying new things. Doing new things, it's all part of you know, the new me. And I like it. I like the new me. I've never been the cook-a-guy-dinner type. I've always been the just annoy-a-guy-for-a-year until-he-finally-gives-in type.” she said remembering all those crazy things she did back then for love, for Steve.
“Well, tell me about this old Y/N. Tell me a secret.” Is it me or that sounds a little flirty too?
“A secret?” Y/N was nervous; secrets are something she would take to the grave for obvious reasons.
“Something that you don't want anyone else to know.” Where would she even start?
“Okay, but you first.”
“Okay.”
“Think of something very good.”
“Okay, so, um, when I was a kid...I was obsessed with Blondie.” said Trent, not wanting to see Y/N's expression, this didn't really turn on the ladies.
“No.” Again, he left her surprised.
“Yes. I was-- seriously, I had the posters on my wall.”
“Wait. I thought you said you were straight.” Y/N tried to play with him a little bit.
“Oh, come on. Hot girls being a lead singer...is straighter than straight.”
“Your turn.” said Trent while giving her a smirk.
“My turn, okay. Um, when I was eight years old, I got my first love letter from a guy named Troy. And he was very cute. And when he gave it to me, I corrected all of his spelling errors and gave it back to him. I've never told anybody that before, not even Steve.” Y/N said remembering Steve again, remembering his embrace, his I love you's, his laugh-
“Well, just so you know, no matter how lovely this is, I'm hands-off. Just friends.” she reminded Trent, fearing he would forget somehow, or she would.
That's when the doorbell rang.
Y/N sighed while getting up. “Must be Jonathan. He keeps forgetting his keys.”
And nothing, nothing would have prepared Y/N for what she would see next, or should I say who she would see next. It is kind of obvious by now right?
Steve Harrington?
Next day…
Y/N woke up earlier than Steve hoping a cup of coffee could help her ease her mind when she bumped into Jonathan.
“Hey. Somebody slept late. It's lunchtime. Do you want some toast?”
“We didn't go to bed till late.” Y/N said, answering his first statement and ignoring the food question completely.
“Thank God for earplugs. I love you but I don't want to hear any of that.” said Jonathan with a little chuckle behind his words.
Y/N didn't reciprocate though. “We didn't do anything. He didn't even talk to me, we just, like, laid there.” she whispered hoping not to wake Steve up.
Too late though because Steve not one minute later was entering the kitchen. You could cut the tension between them with a big knife.
Jonathan took this as his queue to leave. Again. “I'm gonna take this down to the park and watch drug deals go down. It's good to see you again, Steve.”
“You, too, Jonathan” Steve gave him a reassuring smile.
“Um, so, are you hungry? Can I make you some eggs?” said Y/N trying to break the ice. What happened to them? Four months apart that's what happened.
“Yeah. Thanks.”
Steve started looking around. He didn't have the chance last night after the awkward night they shared.
“Wow, this place is awesome.”
Small talk? If Y/N and Steve didn't do something, it was small talk. They made fun of people who did small talk and promised each other they would never become those people. So...
“I can't do this, Steve. I don't understand. I don't know what's going on. Why are you here and why aren't you in your uniform?”
Well at least she was straight-forward right?
Steve sighed and looked down. He definitely didn't want to see Y/N's reaction to this.
“Because I'm not in the Army. Well, I was, for 16 days…”
Y/N stood there more confused than ever hoping he would get the clue that she was waiting for him to continue.
“It wasn't that bad. I really felt like I was someplace I could make a difference, and I'm pretty used to getting yelled at, so I was doing okay. Then, one day, I was cleaning Y/N...they make you give your rifle a name...And then a bullet went through my thigh. Thank God it didn't hit any bones. I got a semi-honorable discharge. So I've been backpacking through Georgia for the past couple months. I'm sorry I didn't call you, but...but I was just so embarrassed. I mean, I left with so much certainty and confidence. I was gonna redeem myself and make you proud. I couldn't face you seeing me as a Hawkins loser.”
Y/N could see the embarrassment in Steve's face and she did know him better than anyone which meant she knew he wouldn`t want her to pity him, so she had to figure something else out.
She got closer to Steve and took his wrists to put focus on the moment. “Enough of this... enough lumping around. All right, so what? The Army didn't work out. Plans change. You're here now, with me, in...in the greatest city in the whole world and what a better place for you and I to find you a new dream.”
“Like what?”
“Before the Army, you applied to NYFA to be an actor. You know, that was obviously not the right school but...I don't know, maybe NYU is. I mean, why don't you come with me to all of my classes this week, and if you love it, then you can move in here and we'll spend the whole year just finding a way for you to get in.”
“You serious?” for some reason Steve couldn't believe after everything, Y/N would still want to be with him, he would take it though, he would take anything she'll give him.
“I love it here, but something has always been missing. I let you go once and I'm not gonna let it happen again.” Y/N was now caressing Steve's cheeks, when they shared their second kiss since Steve got there. Things could only look better from here on out.
Y/N was doing one of her famous sociology presentations while Steve watched proudly from behind, suddenly he felt someone next to him. Jonathan.
“Look at her, she's amazing. Even when she's not all dolled up. I've never seen her so alive. She's found the place where she belongs, where she thrives. Hasn't she?” Steve asked Jonathan, because now, it seemed like Jonathan was the closest person to Y/N meaning he must know.
“If you're asking me if she wants you here or if she actually missed you...she did, she does. Steve that girl adores you, there was not one day she didn't ask about you. The real question is; did you ask about her?”
Damn, that Byers kid was on to something.
Steve finally looked at Jonathan's direction and sighed. “I just wish I could find a place for me because I definitely don't belong here. I'd never get into NYU, and what the hell am I gonna do in New York huh? run a hot dog cart outside of Madison Square Garden? No way. I used to be the man of her dreams, but now we're not even in the same world.”
It seems like Steve had a lot of thinking to do.
---------------------------------------------------
By now the week was almost over which was scary to say the least.
“Dude, I'm not wearing a suit for a night out on the town. I didn't even bring a suit.” said Steve to Jonathan while he saw they were getting dressed.
“Then you can't wear dad jeans and a polo shirt to Grobbys.” Jonathan the fashion expert y'know.
“What's Grobbys?”
“This amazing bar that all the NYU students go to, and friday nights are the best because everybody gets up and sings, and it's where we're going tonight, and it's gonna be great.” said Y/N with such a cheery voice, Steve couldn't bring himself down to break her spirit.
“So I have to dress up to go to a karaoke bar?”
“Come on, Steve, we'll let you sing "Don't Stop Believin'," or something equally uplifting.”
----------------------------------------------------
Steve, Jonathan and Y/N arrived at the famous bar in which they couldn't stop catching up until Steve saw someone approach Y/N way too friendly. He wasn't the jealous type but he knew someone was off.
“Hey, Steve, Y/N.”
Oh. That smile, he recognized him now. The guy that was at their apartment the other day, well even better.
“Trent, hi.” said Y/N with a hint of awkwardness in her voice.
“Hey, Trent, good to see you again, man.” Steve Harrington was going to be the smoothest and least jealous boyfriend anyone could ever meet. Starting with this Trent guy.
“Yeah, you too, you too. So, how's the, uh, visit been going so far?”
Y/N got excited again, talking about a possible future with Steve in New York was a dream come true to her. Except...she didn't know what Steve thought yet.
“Amazing. I took him to school to get the full NYU experience together.”
“Cool. Well...I'm gonna leave it to guys to catch up and uh, yeah, hope to see you soon man.” with that Trent said his goodbyes.
Steve hated that he was so polite; how could he trash him if there wasn't anything bad to say about the guy?
After a few drinks and then telling some stories about the last couple of months apart, Steve and Y/N were walking back to her apartment now that Jonathan said he would be back later.
“So, you and Trent...you seem to be good friends” Smooth Steve 101 right here.
“Oh, yeah, he has been really kind to me these last couple of months. But you're here now.” Y/N knew that if Steve was by her side nothing could go wrong.
Little did she know he was about to burst that bubble of hers.
“Yeah, I just... I don't fit in here. This place is just too big. It moves too fast. People are too talented.” Steve looked down with his hands in his pockets, his insecurities taking the best of him.
“No. I felt that way when I first moved here.” Y/N was in denial of what Steve actually meant with that. So it was her turn to play it cool.
Steve sighed, he knew this conversation needed to happen sooner or later. “Even in Hawkins, I knew you were meant for this. I'm just not.”
“Steve—” she started giving him the puppy eyes and she could make him do anything with those eyes.
“So, are you sure you and that Trent guy are just friends?” time to change the subject again I guess.
“Look, I told you, everything's…”
“Just, ple-please...don't lie to me.” Steve knew something was wrong and after everything he knew lies...lies could just destroy them plain and simple.
So, straight-forward it is...
“I couldn't get in touch with you, okay? I-I... you weren't answering my calls or my letters. I didn't know where you were or even if you were okay.”
“So you were with him.”
“He kissed me, but that's it. Okay, and only just because you told me that you wanted me to be free.” Y/N was getting anxious. She didn't want this Trent thing to get in their way of healing their relationship.
Steve scoffed at that statement. Fuck that. “I can't believe I even said that. I'm so stupid.”
Next day...
Steve decided to wake up before Y/N not that they slept much, just a bunch of laying and pretending to be sleeping and not trying to picture Trent with his girl. So he knew he needed some space now, he didn't want to mess it up even more. Right?
“You can't just run away.” Jonathan said while having his morning cup of coffee while staring at Steve who was now trying to sneak out with his backpack in hand.
“Man, you totally spooked me. I thought I was the only one awake.”
“Been waiting for somebody to come out. I was hoping it'd be Y/N to be honest. You guys okay?” Jonathan knew it was a stupid question to ask, he was there after all but it felt like the right thing to do, to ask, I mean.
Steve didn't realize he was holding his breath until he answered him. “I kind of feel like I'm going to die. But uh...I'll talk to her later about it. I... I just got to get away for a bit.”
He didn't know if he was trying to convince Jonathan or himself at this point.
“Six months ago, did you ever think that things would be like this? Sometimes, I miss high school, you know?”
“You will work things out Steve, you guys always do. Do you want me to say anything to Y/N?”
“No.”
----------------------------------------------------
After Y/N realized Steve left and Jonathan didn't know any of the specifics she decided she would look for him herself.
She shouldn't have been surprised when she found herself going through the streets of Hawkins one more time till she saw that abandoned coffee shop that once upon a time meant so much to them, and of course, Steve was there.
“This is where you proposed to me. When you did, you reminded me it was where we had our first date. It's also where we first met. Do you remember that?”
“Yeah, study date. You, uh, you really freaked me out.” Steve couldn’t help but smile at the memory. It wasn’t a happy smile though, more of a nostalgic one.
“All roads seem to just lead us back here.” said Y/N in what some would consider a disappointed tone.
It was now or she would keep bottling up for more months like before.
“I went to your house and to Dustin's house. I should have known you would've just been here though.” now she would be disappointed in herself for not thinking about that first.
“I know it sounds kind of weird, but I just felt like coming up here. Seems to have helped me figure out stuff before, so…” Steve didn't know what to really say but when he looked at Y/N's eyes, he knew she was holding back, he knew her that well.
Y/N exhaled like all hell was about to break loose on them both. “Yeah, I would have just, you know, come here first, if you would have picked up the phone. Instead I had to get on a plane and drive around town, looking for you, like an idiot.”
“I'm sorry. I just needed time to think.”
“You had four months.” Y/N was talking slow and determined.
“I hated you for what you did to me at that train station.” she recalled the day it all changed.
“I was trying to help you.” Steve murmured.
“I hated you.” Y/N said with frustration mixed with sadness in her voice.
When Steve just kept looking at her, speechless, she decided to continue.
“But then when I got to New York, I thought how much you love me and how hard that must have been for you. And I thought, this...this is what a soulmate looks like. This is how a soulmate loves. But you...not telling me where you were for four months and sneaking out before sunrise, in the middle of the night, without saying good-bye, that is not okay, Steve.”
“I'm trying to give you your freedom!” Steve was doing his hand thing by now.
“I don't need you to give me my freedom! I am a grown woman. I don't need you to hide from me, to keep me from doing what is right for me.” tears were clouding her vision.
“Like that Trent guy?” oh, he went there.
“I didn't do Trent, okay? And don't you think that I would rather have been with you?” Y/N was tired, tired of how blinded Steve could be sometimes.
“Well, didn't you say he was on Broadway? Right? And he's got, like, three-percent body fat. Who am I? I barely even graduated high school, and my life has absolutely no direction.” Steve's insecurities just kept rising up.
“Don't you get it? No matter how rich or famous or successful I become, when it comes to you, I'm...I'm always gonna be that moon-eyed girl who freaked you out at our first study date. You were the first boy who made me feel loved and sexy and visible.” Her vision was not only clouded now but her face was as wet as it can get.
“You are my first love. And...I want, more than anything, for you to be my last. But I can't do this anymore. At least, not now. We're done.” And like that you could probably hear both their hearts break, with just two words. Y/N finally took a breath; like all she was keeping to herself to avoid this fallout.
Steve was at the edge of crying too, his voice was raspier than usual and his eyes looked lost when he looked at her, the one he was supposed to spend the rest of his life with.
“Wow. What am I gonna do with my life? I don't have my girl, I don't have a job, I don't have a place in this world.”
“You have you. And that's better than anyone else on the planet, as far as I'm concerned.”
She drew him toward her with her eyes, he inclined his face toward hers to close the distance between them. For a long time, Steve kissed Y/N, and it was filled with deep need of his lips on hers yet he lured her back, if this was going to be the last kiss he would show her how much she meant to him, it seems like words didn't do them justice.
Breathing deeply, they finally pulled apart, Steve remained standing still and at this moment he was like a child, lost in thought of what was supposed to happen next. Y/N slowly left his hands and turned around to leave, yet when she was about to disappear, she turned, for a split second, she turned and that gave Steve all the confidence in the world that this wasn't the end for them.
THE END. well the end of part 2…

A/N: so, if you been following me by now you can tell i love changing canon relationships from other tv shows and making them Steve Harrington and reader. I thought I would re-write finchel which is just hilarious and sad to me. Anyway, i hope you guys like it <3
Steve Harrington and Y/N L/N, Hawkins High 1984 it couple.
They have been dating over a year now, and they have been head over heels in love with each other. Their love was pure, real and above all, epic. There was nothing they couldn't face together which was honestly vomit inducing for some, and for others their clingy nature every other hour was cringe worthy, yet they didn't care. There were a lot of things they didn't care about.
In 1984 when Steve and Y/N were finishing their senior year, college applications were due soon and to say it was messy would be an understatement. Y/N had always wanted to go to New York, she was very font of the place, and she hoped Steve would want to go there too because there was no way they were going their separate ways...right?
Steve on the other hand was not as excited as her probably valedictorian of a girlfriend. He didn't know what he wanted to do if he went to college. Emphasis on if. There was never anything sure in his life, except for Y/N. He loved her more than anything, and he would not fuck that up.
Which brings us to today. May 16, 1984.
Steve was looking at a family photo from when he was 13 years old. The last family photo they would be taking. He couldn't help but feel a void inside, like something wasn't right, or was it just nerves?
"You have his eyes. His mouth a little bit, too." said Y/N while entering the room and watching Steve from behind.
Without turning around just yet, Steve decided to share his thoughts.
"I've always had trouble finding myself in his face. You know, when I was a kid, I used to stare up at the wall, his picture hanging there, and I used to convince myself we were, like, twins." he couldn't help but chuckle, how naive he was.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" Y/N knew Steve had major family issues, and she has never pushed him into talking about it, but she was always ready if there would be a time he wanted to.
Steve turned around, instantly remembering why he asked Y/N to come meet him there, at their favorite coffee shop that was now closed; he wanted to ask her something.
"No, no. I, uh, I want to talk about you. About us. I was gonna lay out a picnic, like the one you had for our first date, but I couldn't really figure out where you got those cool airplane cups, so…"
Y/N couldn't help but smile at the memory, she really went for it, not knowing if Steve liked her that way, but she was optimistic. And well, that was enough.
"And I told you, you could kiss me if you wanted to. I never understood why you ran off so quickly, though."
"Yeah, I was just nervous." Steve said, looking down.
"Oh, I could never make you nervous." Y/N giggled out of embarrassment and shock. Till this day, Steve made Y/N nervous every time, in a good way that is, so to think of Steve feeling nervous because of her...
"Kind of nervous right now." he couldn't look at her, he wanted to so bad, but he had it all planned, he couldn't risk it now and also yeah...he was terrified. More terrified than any life or death threats he faced in the past.
"Wait, what's going on?" Y/N was now worried.
"Look, uh, I have something to talk to you about, but I want you to promise me that you won't say a word until I'm done. Okay, and I know that's sort of hard for you, so I need you to promise me."
"Okay, I promise." Well, as if she wasn't nervous already.
"Um, I just feel like, all my life, I've been, you know, wondering if I was gonna be as much of a man as my father is. Now, all of a sudden, I'm up at night worried that I'm gonna become the man who he is."
Y/N was giving him the softest eyes, not in a pityful way, but a compassionate one. So Steve knew it was safe to continue without Y/N interrupting him.
"Let's face it, I've got high school hero, life zero written all over me." he said chuckling but when Y/N just glared at him not finding it very funny, he stopped, going back to the point.
"You. You're like a beacon of light guiding me through the darkness. You're like this big gold star, and for some bizarre reason, you chose to let me love you. And... I feel like if I can just convince you to let me keep doing that, I'm going to be okay. Everything's going to be okay."
This was it. He has been practicing this moment for a while now, yet it was like the words couldn't come out fast enough.
"Uh... I opened up my first personal c-credit card to get this." Steve reached his jeans pocket to take out a small, red velvet box.
"I know it's not a swimming pool full of dancers or a tux or...it's not very big, but it's a promise... a promise to keep loving you for the rest of my life. All you've got to do is say yes. Y/N L/N...will you marry me?"
"Oh Steve-"
----------------------------
Later that week...
Y/N was taking her books out when Steve approached her feeling uneasy. The last few days were stressful as hell and Steve still had some unfinished business.
"Okay, it's been exactly 3 days to the minute since I proposed to you, which is the amount of time you said you needed before you'd give me an answer."
Steve hated being that guy. The one that doesn't give you space or the one that is really impatient. Who could blame him though? it wasn't how he imagined the whole thing going down. He didn't even imagine doing it right now until recently...but that wasn't important...
Y/N closed her locker turning to Steve and gave a good thought to her next answer.
"Look, this isn't the kind of decision you can make on a deadline."
"Y/N/N, I understand, you said you needed some time, but... to be perfectly honest not hearing a decision's kind of bummin' me out."
Y/N got closer and took Steve's hands, gently squeezing them to give him a little reassurance.
"No. Look...I love you, okay? And... I want to marry you someday, and... I'm open to anything. This is all just happening so fast, and I don't understand it. I mean, I... I need you to help me understand."
Steve sighed. He knew Y/N was being fair and she was right, an explanation was in order.
"Okay, well, even if you don't get into NYU, you're still gonna go to New York."
"Yes, and I want you to come with me."
"And I will, but... we're crazy if we think that it's gonna be easier to be a couple there than it is here. My point is that those rings are-are...will always be a reminder of exactly how we feel right now. They're gonna let us take a piece of our little world into the big city."
Y/N eyes soften, she could see Steve was projecting his insecurities. "Look, that's really romantic, but I have to be honest—this all just sounds really crazy to me, okay? I don't need to marry you to keep from straying—you're the only guy for me. Okay, I guess...my answer for now is…"
"No, no, don't...don't say anything. You're right, we shouldn't make this kind of a decision on a deadline. Just, uh...take a couple more days, okay?"
-------------------------------
Next day...
Y/N knew it was a crazy idea. Getting married at eighteen? She always pictured herself traveling, getting out of Hawkins, but the more she thought about it, all those things? she pictured Steve by her side. She knew sooner or later they would get married. She couldn't imagine loving anyone else the way she loves Steve Harrington. So... i guess that answered the question.
She asked Steve to meet her at Lover's lake, the place where they first said their i love you's to each other.
Steve saw Y/N playing with her fingers while she waited for him, that made him even more nervous...had he fucked up? Was it too soon? What would happen next if she said no?
"Hey..." Steve said while sitting across from Y/N to see her face properly.
Y/N sighed, preparing herself for the next words that would come out of her mouth.
"You're the love of my life. And...I may not get to have it all, but...I'll have what matters the most if we're together. "
Steve's eyes widen. "Is that a...?"
"Yes." Y/N couldn't help but chuckle. She was truly happy.
"Yes?" Steve couldn't believe it, was his mind playing tricks on him? He needed to hear it again.
"Yes, I will marry you."
"Got to get the ring here." Steve hands were shaking in excitement while he took the ring out of his jacket because of course he would carry it everywhere.
-----------------------
Next week....
Steve talked to Dustin, told him about asking Y/N to marry him and he didn't take the news as he hoped. Don't get me wrong, Dustin loved Y/N like a sister but he thought Steve was taking the easy way out. Following his girlfriend, now fiancé around the world without doing anything for himself.
This made Steve question everything, well almost everything. He knew he still wanted to marry Y/N but New York? Was that actually his dream?
So...with Steve's confusion he started drifting apart to think about it. Y/N noticed of course and she would do anything to make it work.
That's when Y/N was waiting again for Steve to show, she hoped he would.
And of course he did.
"I got your note. Anyone who's engaged to me should come to the gymnasium. You could've just ask for me."
Y/N smiled shyly. "Yeah, but I wasn't sure if we were speaking. I miss you."
"I miss you, too." he said getting closer so he could hold her.
He needed that and so did she. Badly.
"Now I feel like I'm finally reentering my body." Y/N sighed with content.
"I really don't like not talking to you. I mean, nothing feels real unless you're there to tell it to. I never realized how much time we spent talking." Steve said while cupping Y/N's face.
"I've been thinking, and if you don't want to go to New York, then we don't have to." Y/N mentioned without hesitation.
Steve took a step back for a moment. "Wh... Wh... That's crazy. I don't want to stand in the way of your dreams."
Y/N reached for Steve hand. "Look, the only reason why we've been focusing on my dreams is because we haven't taken the time to look into yours. What if your dreams are bigger than mine?"
That made Steve chuckle, he found it really ironic. "I don't think that's going to be a problem. I mean, I did one of those quizzes that was supposed to tell you what job you'd be good at, and my results were competitive eating champion."
Y/N felt sadness, sad that Steve didn't see how special he is. She wished he could see himself in her eyes. So she prepared herself for another speech.
"Okay, sit down. My whole life, I felt like I was in the wrong place. Like I was just some alien, an-and... no one understood me. But all I had to do was just go to New York and then everything would be fine. But I was wrong. My home isn't some place, it's... someone. It's you. Of course, I want us to go to New York, and... maybe we will. But not until we give your dreams an equal shot."
Steve's eyes were becoming cloudy while giving Y/N a tiny smile. "You love me that much?"
"Are you just figuring that out now?"
--------------------
Y/N and Steve were looking at college and jobs options trying to figure out what would make Steve happy, what he wanted to do with his life.
He smiled and nodded, acting like he was interested but the truth was he didn't imagine himself in any of those places yet he didn't have the heart to tell Y/N, he couldn't bare to disappoint her. Which he could never do but he didn't really believe that.
Steve entered his house to see Robin sitting in the living room. One would think that's weird but she basically lived there by now.
"Come with me." Robin said to Steve.
She took some papers from her bag, the college papers he had thrown away earlier that day.
"What, are you going through the garbage now?"
"Oh, come on. I know you were just humoring us in there. I could see it in your face. So I followed you out."
"What was I supposed to say, Robin? S-Sorry, I'd rather puke than spend a minute in any of those places? Right in front of Y/N, with... a big smile on her face, all proud of me?" Steve got defensive.
"She just wants what's best for you." Robin said as a matter of factly, she hated seeing Steve giving up.
"Yeah, she does. Until she realizes her fiancé is a total loser."
Robin narrowed her eyes in annoyance. How could he be so oblivious? "Is that what you're scared of?"
"It's the truth. Doesn't anybody understand that maybe the reason I don't know what to do with my life is because I'm not qualified to do anything."
"You just don't know what you want yet."
Steve got up, he couldn't have this conversation again, he had it with his parents, his girlfriend, his best friend who happened to be a pre-teen, now from Robin? Fuck no.
"What I want is for time to stop. Okay? I want it to feel like I'm on the basketball court and the crowd's going nuts! Or I-I want it to feel like I'm fighting some fucked up thing and everybody's counting on me."
"So let's find something out there that gives you that feeling." Robin got up as well. She wasn't about to quit this argument.
"Of being young? Where is it? Show me."
Silence. Complete, utter silence.
Robin sighed taking something else out of her bag. It seemed to be a video tape.
"I want you to watch this for me."
"Look, Rob, I don't really feel like doing any movie lessons right now. I just-"
"I think you know what you want for your life. I think you're just scared to say it out loud. I want you to see what it looks like when someone follows their dream, even though everyone else tells them it's impossible. You can do anything you want to, Steve. It's not the broken dreams that break us. It's the ones we didn't dare to dream."
Robin left the tape on the coffee table and exit Steve's house. He should watch this movie alone.
"(Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive" playing over TV)"
--------------------------
Steve was playing basketball in his backyard, practicing for tonight's game, when Y/N showed from behind.
"That was amazing! You're definitely gonna win."
"I already did. But look, there's more. I figured out what I'm gonna do next year. Can we sit down?"
Shit, thought Y/N. Was he about to break up with her?
"Oh, why am I nervous?"
Steve smiled. "Don't be nervous. Robin made me watch Saturday Night Fever. It was really good, and I realized I'm a lot like Tony Manero. Except for the whole being-able-to-dance thing. When I saw that movie, I realized the way that Tony took on the world... I want to do that, too. I want to move to New York. Like Tony. Like you. I want to live in New York City with you."
Y/N gasped. "Really, are you serious?!"
Steve couldn't help but laugh a little.
"Yeah. Just... there's more. Just wait. Uh, what was that acting show, on Bravo, with the swear words and the cool dude you made me watch?"
"James Lipton."
"Yeah. I applied to his school. I want to go to Inside the Actors' Studio.
"It's... It's just The Actors' Studio, but that's great! It's a perfect, perfect fit for you." Y/N smiled. Steve becoming an actor? She could definitely see that.
But Y/N couldn't help but wonder...
"You just, you know, you can't... do this for me, right? It has to be for you. It's too much pressure for me to handle."
Steve locked his arms with Y/N's. "It is for you, but it's also what I want. It's my dream. I want to be an actor. I guess I was always afraid to admit it because I was scared of failing, but I'm not scared anymore...'cause of you. I want to be a great man for you, Y/N/N. And I want to see myself the way you see me; as though I'm capable of anything. Dreaming big. I love you so much...and you deserve that."
Y/N felt this warm feeling enter her body, something only Steve could do.
"You're my hero; you know that, right?"
"You're mine."
-----------------------
Three weeks later...
Steve wasn't accepted to The Actors' Studio. Which meant Y/N had a lot of thinking to do...
Y/N was getting ready with the help of Nancy, her best friend.
"I can't bring Steve to New York." Y/N said in an almost whisper-like voice.
"What? Why?" Nancy was truly confused.
"He'll be reminded of his rejection every day. So I've decided. I'm deferring my acceptance to NYU for a year and guarantee we'll go there together next year. I'm actually thankful for this whole mess. I'm so glad something has made me come to my senses."
Nancy wasn't convinced but Y/N seemed to have made up her mind already and who was she to judge?
"Come on, you're going to be late to your own wedding."
---------------------------
Y/N got in Steve's car. Their parents weren't really on board with the marriage idea, so they decided to have a ceremony just the two of them and... well the party of course.
"Hi." said Steve with no real emotion in his voice but Y/N let it slide, not thinking much of it.
"Hi. Okay, so you have my dress and my shoes, and I have my makeup and my epic love for you. Let's get married." she said with a genuine smile.
"Okay." that's all Steve could say as he drove away.
"My parents are still being kind of weird about the wedding. I brought it up last night and they were really quiet, but it's fine." said Y/N like it didn't affect her, the fact that her parents didn't support her on this big day.
Steve made a right turn that threw Y/N off... was he taking a short cut?
"Are you sure that we're going the right way?"
Silence.
"We're here." Steve said after stopping at a train station.
"Are you joking? 'Cause it's not funny. We're gonna be late." said Y/N with a frown on her face.
"You're on the 4:25 to New York. Your parents are gonna meet you there and they're gonna help you look at dorms at the new school. You're gonna spend four years of your life there and you've never even set foot in the place, so…"
Y/N was confused to say the least.
"But I... I have all year to go and look at it."
"You're gonna go there in the fall. All right? You're not deferring. We're not getting married."
Heartbreak.
"You don't want to marry me?" said Y/N with the saddest expression Steve had ever seen on her.
"I want to marry you so badly I can't go through with it. The thought of you being stuck here for another year because of me, it makes me sick."
"Then come with me. Okay? We can get married in New York and live in a little shoebox apartment together. It'll be romantic." Y/N was trying to make this work. She couldn't lose Steve.
"Do you love me?" Steve asked, plain and simple.
"Of course I do."
"Then tell me the truth and not just something you think I want to hear. Are you 100% sure you want to marry me?" Again, Steve couldn't have said all of this with a more serious expression.
"N-No-no one is 100% sure of anything." Deep down Y/N was still thinking eighteen was too young but... this was Steve, Steve the love of her life.
Steve looked deep into her eyes. "I am. I am that sure you're something special. That this is just the beginning for you. Okay? That you're gonna do amazing things. But to get there, you have to have these experiences on your own…"
"Wait a minute.
THE END <3 thinking about pt. 2....?

Let it go, she has.
Pairing: Steve Harrington x Fem!reader (no physical descriptions) reader dated eddie major plot line
Tumblr media
Summary: Reader and Eddie break up and Steve is there to pick up the pieces. (so original of me i know....)
Word count: 2.6k
Warnings: arguments, eddie being kind of a jerk oops, changed s4 outcome, cursing i think, minor sex references.
English is NOT my first language. Not proof read.....
A/N: so.....this is so not original of me but idk I wanted to try making a Steve x reader and incorporating Eddie idk. Based on dawson's creek again, if you get it, you get it. I apologize to Eddie fans and yeah. Pls don't hate me. k enjoy <3 i really enjoyed writing this.
Eddie Munson and Y/N L/N have known each other since they were small beans. Soon they became best friends and like every cliché teen story, they started dating in high school. It was now their senior year and everything seemed great, at least for a while. Y/N then started drifting apart, not because she didn't love him but because she couldn't deal with much at the moment.
It has been a couple of weeks since Eddie and Y/N really hung out; they mostly had small talk conversations or study dates, and for some reason they just seem to avoid the dating topic. That is, until one friday night when Y/N had enough. She missed her boyfriend and she knew she had to make it up to him for giving him mixed signals the last few weeks.
That brings us to Steve Harrington's house party. They were friends now. 1986 was an interesting year to say the least, with a lot of fighting and reconciliation...
Eddie was feeling overwhelmed with everything going on at the party, so he decided to leave for a bit.
Soon enough, he found a spare bedroom in which he crashed, yet when he laid down, he heard this too familiar voice.
"Hey."
Eddie turned to find Y/N sitting at the desk.
He would be surprised, but he remembered that Y/N and Steve were neighbors now, and she also crashed there when she partied sometimes.
"Hey," said Eddie in an almost whisper-like voice. He was kind of shocked. He was getting used to not having her around, as bad as that sounds...
"Rager downstairs, huh?" Y/N was trying to lighten up the mood before the big conversation she knew they both needed to have.
"Yeah. Almost finishing senior year, and already my life's in complete and utter upheaval."
"Then I'm probably the last person you want to see." The nerves were getting to her, but she knew she couldn't back down now.
"You're a lot of things, Y/N/N. But you're never the last person I want to see."
Y/N gets up and moves to sit by him on the bed, giving him a shy smile.
"Eddie, um, I'm sorry, not just about today. About everything. In a total moment of adolescent anger and upset, I lashed out at the one person who cares about me the most. Who I care the most about."
"You should have called me, Y/N/N. Or written. You should have contacted me."
She had no good excuse, and that she knew for sure.
"I should have done a lot of things. But I was so... ashamed. I figured I'd ignore life for awhile. But you can't do that forever, can you?"
"No, you can't." Eddie couldn't help but answer in a dry tone.
Even if she was being honest, he didn't like hearing all of this or how much control she still had over him.
"Who is she?" Y/N didn't want to sound jealous or malicious. Eddie could hang out with whoever he wanted, but she was still intrigued.
"Chrissy? I just met her." False. His hands started sweating like he had been caught doing something wrong, which unless thinking someone is attractive is wrong, he should be in the clear. Yet he didn't feel that way at all.
Insecurity got the best of her. "Are you two..."
"Hardly." Eddie cursed himself for answering way too quickly.
Y/N decided to change the topic, truth is that was all the answers she needed.
"Did you miss me?" she said, hopeful.
"You know I did." Eddie looked her in the eyes while saying so. He was telling the truth.
Y/N couldn't help but smile wide at the statement. "Good, because I miss you, too."
She moved up, standing above him. The truth is, Eddie and Y/N had never slept with each other, always waiting for the right time, and in some way, Y/N thought by giving herself to him right now, that would prove how much she missed and wanted him. Boy, was she wrong.
Eddie looked at her in disbelief. "It's not the same anymore, Y/N/N."
Y/N didn't get the hint.
"It doesn't have to be the same, Eddie. It's a new year. It can be different. It can be better."
"No."
"What is it? What's wrong?" Y/N was truly confused. Wasn't this what every guy wanted?
"Everything. This is not you."
"I can be sexual, Eddie." she deadpanned. The lust she was feeling was slowly fading away.
"I know you can, Y/N. But we can't do this. Not now. Not like this. Put your shirt back on please."
To say Y/N was embarrassed would be the understatement of the century. She put her shirt back on as fast as she could, thinking about how much of a fool she had made herself.
Eddie couldn't help but feel a little guilty for the now sad-looking girl in front of him.
"I'm sorry if you're hurt."
Y/N was suddenly seeing red. Was he being serious? Nah, shit was about to go down.
"Hurt? Why would I be hurt, Eddie? I hope you're not delusional enough to think it was some embarrassing attempt at getting you back. Besides, if sex is all you're about these days—"
"Sex is not all I'm about, Y/N. And you, more than anyone, should know that."
"I am not responsible for your sexual inexperience." Yep. She went there.
A side of people’s beliefs Eddie Munson and Y/N L/N were very much still virgins. Breaking the stereotype high school relationships has gotten through the years.
"I'm not blaming you…"
"I never stopped you from being with someone else." Y/N was suddenly on a defense mechanism, which consisted of slowly but surely attacking the other person. They were lucky she didn't get angry often.
"That was particularly clear when you stopped talking to me. Twice." said Eddie, knowing Y/N wasn't going to back down anytime soon.
"You had time, Eddie. There was plenty of time for you to have all the fun you wanted. It's not my fault if you're still a virgin." Silence. Complete and utter silence.
Eddie's eyes softened; he knew that as much as that probably hurt his ego, Y/N was just frustrated and angry. He couldn't lash out at her for having different emotions. So he decided to be the bigger person and try to end this argument, if you can call it that...
"I love you, Y/N. What happened between us or didn't happen was because both of us wanted it that way."
Y/N's vision started to get cloudy. She knew the tears were coming.
"What's wrong? What's so wrong with me?" She whispered, not being able to look him in the eyes.
"It's not you. It's us. I can't go through all that again. You say it will be different, but it won't be."
"You don't know that." She really didn't want to give up on them just yet.
"Yes, I do. and so do you. Y/N, another year like last year, and I can promise you that there will be no more love left between us."
Y/N was upset; it gutted her if she had been honest. She knew things weren't great but to lose someone you have so much history with? That's just brutal.
"So is there anything else?" she said with hope in her eyes.
"Yes."
"So you love me...you just don't want me?" Try making sense of that at eighteen...
Eddie didn't answer, but Y/N knew the answer already. That's when she finally started crying and exited the room through the window. She couldn't stay there any longer.
Three months later...
Following their "for the best" breakup, Y/N grew closer to his neighbor Steve Harrington. Little did she know that he'd had a crush on her since the day she moved next door. It's been two years. Steve would see Y/N when he was leaving for work, making him late most of the times because he ended up chatting with her. Soon enough, they became best friends too, always going on their own adventures. Steve even stopped going on dates because he knew no one would understand him like Y/N did. How he wished she could see him the same way, but he knew it was too much to ask after how hurt she was in the last and only breakup.
Talking about breakups...
Y/N and Eddie haven't talked at all since that day. He wanted space? She was going to give him that. She honestly needed the space too, even if she didn't want to admit it at the time. As the weeks and months went by, Y/N would understand what he meant and be finally okay with the decision.
Prom...
Y/N decided to ask Steve to her prom. She was nervous. Why would a 20-year-old want to go back to high school? But to her surprise, Steve said yes.
He said yes, and they could not be anymore excited. They pictured dancing to ABBA or Queen, maybe a little Wham! But be totally chill about it. They pictured taking prom photos that would later be framed in their rooms. They pictured meeting at Y/N's house and being left in awe at the sight of one another.
Of course, all of this would never be shared; this was for them to imagine by themselves. Because that's how oblivious they both were.
Cut to the school gymnasium, where If You Leave was playing in the background. This truly was a Pretty in Pink moment, at least before Eddie saw Steve and Y/N being so close that he got suspicious. Of course, there was nothing going on...yet. But he didn't know that.
Eddie and Chrissy decided to go together, which shocked everyone. People didn't know if they were just friends or were actually dating. It was the first one.
Yet Y/N didn't notice. She was having fun dancing with Steve while discussing things they both loved. She found so much comfort in him, she was even catching feelings, which scared her because she didn't think Steve would ever feel the same. Again, such oblivious teens.
"So when did you and Steve discover your love for dancing?" Chrissy asked Y/N after everyone took a dancing break. She was obviously teasing, but somehow Y/N didn't find it very funny.
"Obviously just moments before you and Eddie did." she said, her best polite smile on.
While Steve was getting more punch, Eddie decided to interrogate him which of course made sense...right?
"I can't get over how weird it is to see you here. What's going on?"
Well, wasn't that just straight-forward and nice of him to say?
"What? Not everybody's got the dazzling array of electronics available that the school does." Steve decided to do a little teasing of his own. Eddie's facial expression was just gold.
"And that's the only reason you're at my prom even though you've already graduated?"
"No. There's always the lure of the Hawkins High food... which has lost its luster since I left, to be honest."
"So, you're not dating Y/N/N?"
"Dating who?" Steve tried to play dumb. How he wishes he was...
"Y/N."
Just as Steve was thinking of what type of answer to give him, Y/N showed up to ask him for another dance. They were going to play that Top Gun song that everyone loved so much, and she wanted to slow dance to it. So when she went to grab his arm, Eddie got in their way and stole Y/N for the dance himself. Oh how he hated this song...
"So when did you discover your love for dancing?" Ironic.
"Well, hello to you too. It's like a requirement for prom, Munson. Is that so hard to believe?" She was annoyed.
Eddie didn't answer. What was he going to say? He didn't think this through.
"And I needed a date, so..." Y/N said interrupting his thoughts.
"But why'd you ask Steve? Why didn't you just ask me?"
This honestly seemed like a terrible joke if it was one, yet she went along with it.
"I have been spending more time with Steve. He's a good dancer. I enjoy his company. So yeah, I needed help with this, and he was there for me. That's what friends do, Eddie; they help each other."
"That's all you guys are, friends?"
And the song suddenly stopped. Techical difficulties.
Eddie was confused. How had he missed all of this? Sure, Steve and Y/N were friends before, but now... he didn't believe that was the end of it. And he knew he would get more answers out of Steve than Y/N.
Eddie went back to Steve to finish the conversation they were having before they were interrupted.
"Okay...so..."
"Do you wanna tell me what's going on?" Eddie had this serious expression on his face, like he didn't want to be messed around anymore.
Steve sighed.
"It's not what you think. Not even close." He wished, though.
"How do you know what I think?"
"Because it's written all over your face. Yes, me and Y/N have spent a lot of time together because we're friends. What's interesting to me is that of all the blonde and brunette combinations of women I know, the first one that popped into your mind is Y/N--"
"You're not getting out of this by psychoanalyzing me."
"I'm just asking a simple question. Eddie, you and Y/N—she's not your girlfriend anymore." It was now Steve's turn to look serious. He wanted to make sure this was addressed.
"You're right, she's not." Eddie spoke without any specific emotion hidden behind his voice.
"Right. So then, why are we having this conversation? You see where I'm going? You're the guy who said that you two needed to go your separate ways."
"Yeah, we do. It just never occurred to me that--"
"That what? That she would actually go her separate way too? Or perhaps it didn't occur to you...her separate way would include a stopover at me. Is that what it is? God, this is the way it always is with you. You talk, but you don't listen to yourself. You say you're over her, but you're not. The words don't mean anything."
"Look, you don't know what you're talking about." Eddie was slowly getting defensive. Yeah, Steve was his friend, but how much did he know about lasting relationships?
"Look at that girl, Munson. Take a good look. She's a freaking goddess. How long did you think it would take before a guy came along and expressed interest in her? I mean, really, dude. And when that happens, what are you gonna do?"
"I'll take it as it comes." Eddie said cooly.
Steve couldn't help but scoff.
"You'll take it as it comes. Perhaps you should start now, because the guy who comes along won't be your friend. He won't ask permission. The guy that comes along will take one look at her and cut right in on you."
Sure, Steve wanted that to actually be himself, but he was not about to say that.
"What are you hiding, Steve?"
"What?" Steve was confused. Was he too obvious about her everlasting crush?
"All this analysis of my love life...doesn't change that you didn't answer me. Why are you really here with Y/N/N?"
Steve rolled his eyes and walked away. He couldn't be held accountable to what would happen if he continued to have that conversation.
"Why do I bother?"
THE END.
surprise ending kinda sucks i know... feedback is greatly appreciated love u all <3

matilda.
Pairing: Steve Harrington x Fem!reader? (no physical descriptions)
Tumblr media
Summary: Steve Harrington is an 80s male version of matilda.
Word count: 1.9k (just something smol)
Warnings: almost pure angst. super tw to daddy issues and fights/arguments. mostly a steve x father fic with mentions of reader. ALSO idk what season or year this is set in. maybe season 2-3 ish. there's also cursing. OH i also named his dad bc writing mr. harrington all the time gave me anxiety so let's imagine his name is Blake. yes, i got inspiration after Blake Carrington......
English is NOT my first language.
A/N: hello cuties, so just in case we don't get Steve confronting his family in s5...wrote this. and also of course this is based on dawson's creek and harry's song. feeling versatile today. love you all and I HOPE YOU ENJOY <3
Steve got home after a double tutoring session for his SAT's. To say he was exhausted would be an understatement, but at least it helped him not to think about Y/N, his girlfriend that actually made it out of Hawkins after high school. Don't get me wrong, he was so proud of her for pursuing her dreams, but that didn't mean he didn't miss her to death and wish she was with him every night.
After entering the kitchen to make himself a sandwich because, of course, there wasn't food already made. It was his everyday routine, but when he turned around, he noticed his dad. Weird. He thought. He's almost never home, and when he is, it's like he avoids being in the same room as Steve. Yet here he was, passed out on the family couch next to a bottle of whisky. I guess it was a long day for him too.
Steve couldn't help but stare at him and feel empty. After a few moments of contemplating his next move, he decided to sit on the couch in front of him. He knew his father wouldn't wake up, yet he still sat down just for the nostalgia and pain of it all.
"So I guess this is as good a time as any to have that father-son talk." Steve looked at him and saw how he had this subtle snore. Great.
Steve made this lower voice impersonating his dad. "So, how are you doing at summer school, Steve?"
"Well, actually, dad, I'm doing all right. You know, I'm really turning things around. It turns out I'm pretty smart. Maybe I'm college-bound after all."
"Good man, Steve, I always knew you'd turn out to be something. How are the ladies treating you?"
"Uh, I met this woman." Steve answered himself and couldn't help but blush just at the thought of her.
"Is she cute?"
"Cute? man, uh, Y/N's beautiful. She's smart, she's funny. I tell you, this girl is really something special. And...whatever the reason, she seems to think I'm pretty special too."
He couldn't stop smiling by now. A warm feeling was taking over his body, one he was familiar with since he started dating Y/N. But that smile, that nice warm feeling, suddenly disappeared, making Steve frown and almost contain his tears. This is not what he was intending to do by having a fake conversation with his father. But he stayed with it.
"So why can't you see that? Hmm? Why can't you see me, man? When did you give up on me? when I was five? Hmm, ten? twelve? I'm eighteen years old, dad.
Steve was sobbing by now. He couldn't breathe properly either. He was embarrased to be perfectly honest but all those emotions he had bottled up for years were coming out. He couldn't help it even if he tried. And he did try.
"And I'm here, and I'm not perfect, but I try so hard for you. I just—it's your job. It's your job to love me. Because you're my father, no matter who I am or what I become. I can't do this by myself."
Steve didn't realize until now how much he actually needed his parents. Yeah, the party was great, as were his best friend and girlfriend, but the validation and support of his parents is something he always hopes he will get one day.
But it didn't seem like that would happen any time soon.
Later that week...
After another natural disaster in Hawkins, Steve wasn't surprised if it ended up being connected to the Upside Down or the lab, for that matter. But of course, his father didn't know that. So, after a long day at the office doing whatever it is that stock marketers do, Mr. Harrington met with Steve.
Steve wasn't really paying attention to what was happening; it wasn't anything new to him. He was consumed by the thought of his girlfriend once again. Fuck, he missed her. He missed her a lot. Sure, they would call each other every day, but it didn't make it any less hard on him. He wonders if Y/N felt the same way about their separation. Or was he too codependent?
Steve's dad shook him out of his thoughts when he started talking again.
"The sheriff was lying to me. He's in it up to his neck and he knows it."
Of course Steve knew Hopper. He's done everything in his power to protect the kids, so this type of incident wasn't him. It couldn't be.
"Come on, you don't even know if this has anything to do with him." Steve was trying to lift the mood and make his father not put the blame on Hopper.
"A random arson incident in the middle of Hawkins? Let's consider the likelihood of that, Steve." Blake scoffed, looking at Steve like he was delusional or just plain stupid.
How wrong he was.
"If God hadn't blessed you with my good looks, I wouldn't know whose son you were. Why don't you drive yourself home before you make another embarrassing comment.”
Steve just stared at the man. Wondering how on earth were they related.
"I think I'll walk."
Blake contained a laugh. Again, making Steve look bad in front of all his coworkers.
"As if I care."
Just as Steve was turning around to leave, he decided to add one more comment.
"You know, we assumed you did, Pop." he said smiling with his sarcastic and mocking voice. It was basically a fuck you, dad.
Blake was surprised at his comeback—was he trying to embarrass him? Nope. He wouldn't tolerate it.
"You'll have to excuse my son, boys. His girlfriend moves away and suddenly it's his time of the month." he said, forcing a laugh to make it seem like it was no big deal.
"Hey, screw you, okay?" Steve was getting annoyed by now. He wouldn't let himself be talked down like that anymore.
Blake tried to put Steve aside to talk to him in a more private environment, in which he most definitely would be scolding Steve for his attitude towards him.
But when he tried to grab his arm,
"Get your hands off me, alright? You don't touch me again, ever!" Steve was now shouting. The mere idea of his father having anything to do with him disgusted him more in that moment than any other day.
Mr. Harrington made that fake laugh again, trying to keep an appeareance in front of everyone else in the scene.
"Finally, my boy gets a pair. All it took was getting his heart broken by some little girl with a few screws loose."
Steve lost it. In his eighteen years, he had never punched his dad, not until today that is. He didn't know anything about you. He didn't know that you are the most amazing person to ever grace his existence.
"Y/N did more for my life in six months than you did in eighteen years, you rotten son of a bitch. So if you want to make fun of me, you want to burst out on me? That's fine. But if you make even the slightest disparaging remark about the woman I love, I swear to God, you'll be calling this town from a hospital bed, you understand?"
Blake was speechless. He didn't even move from the position where Steve had punched him just a minute ago.
With that, Steve was ready to leave. He couldn't look at his dad anymore. But first, now that he seemed to have his full attention after all these years, he had one more thing to say. To him, to everyone for that matter. Screw the reputation.
"And one more thing, even if Hopper was involved in all of this, he's still ten times the father you ever were."
The next day...
Steve was at the park waiting for the kids to call him through the walkie-talkie and ask him to pick them up from their D&D session. Just another regular day for him: picking up the kids, waiting for it to be night, and calling Y/N's dorm. He's sure her roommate is sick of all the calling, but he couldn't care less. He needed to hear her sweet voice. Yeah, he was codependent alright.
And just like yesterday, someone interrupted his thoughts. His dad. Talk about a surprise.
"What are you doing here?"
Mr. Harrington sat next to Steve on the park bench, leaving enough space for another person to fit between the two of them.
"For starters, you punched me."
Of course. Steve thought that's what he'd say.
"If you came looking for an apology, you're barking up the wrong tree."
"No, I don't need one. I deserved it. Good for you for doing it." What had gotten into Blake Harrington?
When Steve didn't respond, he decided to keep making conversation, something he clearly wasn't used to.
"You got another phone call today from Y/N. We talked for a long time. She's uh, kind of chatty, that one."
Steve smiled to himself. "Yeah, she is."
"She sounded sweet as hell, Steve. So, I'm sorry for what I said yesterday. I really don't know anything about her."
Steve finally got the courage to look him in the eyes. "Apology accepted."
Steve got up from the bench after that. He wanted to see what his father's next step would be. Would he follow him? Or leave now that he has a clean concience?
"I'm not done."
To Steve's surprise, Blake got up as well.
"As little as I know about her, I know even less about you, my own son."
They stay put for a moment, waiting for someone to continue. Mr. Harrington guessed that would be him again.
"I realized that as Y/N was trying to fill me in on what you two had been through, I didn't know about any of that. She said you were her hero. It was nice to hear."
That brought tears to Steve's eyes but he wouldn't let them fall. His lips stayed pressed together hoping the force would also help stop the tears. Boys don't cry, he reasoned, or at least not in front of Blake Harrington.
When Blake still got no verbal response from his son, he thought it was fitting. How many times has he done the same to Steve?
"Anyway, I called the school and I explained things to them. They're going to let you make up the finals next week when you feel up to it."
"Thank you." Steve was finally able to get the words out. You could see the pain in his eyes, yet he refused to be open about it.
"It's the least I could do." Even though Blake's voice didn't seem affected by all of this, you could see pain in his eyes too. From what? We don't exactly know. Yet.
"I'm sorry I haven't been the kind of father that you felt you could share your story with."
Fuck it. Steve started shredding tears; it wasn't a full crying look, but it was in the making. It was bound to happen, that's for sure.
"Uh, there's just one other thing here. Y/N wanted me to give you something."
You could tell Mr. Harrington was nervous—a little uncomfortable even. Meanwhile Steve had this confused expression. That's when his father started getting closer to hug him, patting his back a few times before pulling away. It was a quick hug. An awkward one too.
After that awkward embrace, they looked into each others eyes and saw the hurt they both shared, that's when they went for another hug. A hug that was expected for eighteen years. Steve finally broke down thinking this could possibly still be a dream, either way, he was going to take the deal.
THE END.

the aftermath.
Pairing: Steve Harrington x Fem!reader (no physical descriptions)
Tumblr media
Summary: Steve and reader have a heart to heart after their first time together.
Word count: 1.2k (this is probably more of a blurb idk but i'm excited!!)
Warnings: Season 2 Steve, arguing, mentions of sex, level 1 angst, fluff mmm i think that's it. English is NOT my first language. Not proof read.
A/N: so, i was trying to write part 3 of just one kiss but i was stuck i'm so sorry BUT i still wanted to post something so...here's a lil something. Again, inspired by the other king, pacey witter. thank you very much.
ANYWAY HOPE YOU ENJOY ILY <3
Steve and Y/N have been dating for 3 months now. They started off as friends though she already had a massive crush on the guy. It wasn't until Tina's 1984 Halloween party that Steve and Y/N began what would be a beautiful friendship. He needed someone who he could truly count on and Y/N seemed to be needing the same. So one thing lead to another and soon enough both of them would be telling each other how they felt. It changed everything and I don't mean the fact that they added romance in the mix.
Steve and Y/N were one of those couples that liked to count every mile stone in their relationship, either because this was becoming Steve's most serious and longest relationship so far or the fact that Y/N also loved all that corny stuff. So naturally, they decided without telling each other of course, that they would finally have sex on their 3rd month anniversary. Again, corny, but to them it was another big step. They were scared that it would threw their whole dynamic off, so if it happened, it happened.
So now we find ourselves four days after the big night, which did in fact happen.
Steve had been blowing off Y/N these past few days. She though he might need some space after...that. But she didn't expect him to be so cold towards her, it was almost starting to feel like the old Steve. King Steve. Which made her mad of course. They shared something intimate and special and he just pushes her aside? Hell no.
On day five, Y/N had enough. She would confront Steve on the issue. Let's just say it didn't go well. Steve once again was cold and acted like he couldn't wait to end the conversation with her. He of course denied any of her doubts but she was still not convinced, which he could tell yet he didn't seem to care. But of course that's what she thought.
After the fight, Y/N decided to storm out and leave the school for the day. It was pouring rain yet she didn't mind, she actually found it appropiate. Steve followed her to the car and got in. Truth was he was being an asshole who didn't want to lose her.
Y/N had a disappointed look on her face, not towards him but towards herself. She couldn't believe she fell for all that.
“Get out.”
Steve shook himself a little bit to get the excess of wetness off his hair. Not that it worked. “We're not done.”
Y/N found that hilarious. “Oh yes we are.”
“Y/N I know that my behaviour the last few days has been a little bit confusing and I'm really sorry for being so cold and so distant but a lot of stuff has been happening and I don't know, I don't even know where to start.”
“You can start by getting out of the car.” she gave him this serious look that he knew meant she wasn't messing around yet he decided to push his luck, which wasn't that big.
Steve sighed and finally looked her steady in the eyes. “Why don't I try starting with the truth?”
Y/N's love for Steve won. She did kinda want an explanation, so she waited for him to continue. His explanation better be essay good.
He started to take out something out of his backpack. A paper that was now a little damp yet still readable. “My history quiz. I never told you my grade.”
Y/N took the piece of paper carefully and examinated it. Her eyes widen you might think they would pop out of her head. “Steve…you got an-”
“An A. I got an A. It's the first A I've ever gotten in my entire life Y/N and it kind of threw me for a loop.”
“Why? You worked so hard for it.”
Y/N has been tutoring Steve a couple times a week everytime she came to his house, of course it ended in makeout sessions but it was part of their routine too. So even though Y/N was mad at him, she couldn't help but feel so very proud.
“Because, it changes everything. Don't you see everything's always been so predictable for me but now my whole life course is changing and ever since you and I slept together I felt anxious. Wondering if we should have waited, should we have slowed down, questioning whether or not it was the right thing to do. Wishing that I had taken the high road and that's not me.”
She kept giving him her full attention while Steve kept getting more nervous about opening up. This had never happen to him before. Any of it for that matter. Yet he decided to keep going.
“You know, the only comfort about being Steve Harrington was that I always knew what to expect. And now, I don't have a clue and I'm terrified. And that's why I was pulling away from you.”
After making heavy eye contact that said a thousand words, Y/N decided it was her turn to say something.
“It's okay to be scared Steve. I mean, the world is a scary scary place. But Steve, I don't want you to be scared of me.”
Steve scoffed at that.
“How can I not be Y/N? You're the one that's opening up this whole life for me and I'm just, I'm afraid that…”
“What?”
Well, it was now or never.
“I'm afraid because you are the single most important being to ever grace my existence. Y/N, I am falling hopelessly in love with you.”
They locked eyes again but you could now see Y/N fully stunned while Steve's hair was finally drying.
Steve looked at Y/N's mouth, waiting for some words to come out of it. But when it didn't he knew he had to keep going.
“Say something, please. Because I just kind of cut it open and lay it out for you.”
Y/N let out a nervous laugh, because even if she didn't want to admit it, love and trust didn't come easy to her.
“Yeah. That was…pretty scary.”
Now it was Steve's turned to laugh. “That's it. That's all you have to say.”
Y/N started smiling so big, not that Steve was noticing because embarrassment had taken over him so he just looked ahead to the parking lot. What was he supposed to do now? Say goodbye and get out of the car and walk through the storm? Probably.
Y/N kept looking at Steve with such admiration and content. “No. I'll say that…I share your fear.”
That made Steve turned his head so fast his neck hurted a little bit. “Yeah?” he said smiling wide.
“Your exact fear.”
Steve and Y/N couldn't help but keep smiling at each other for a while until they started kissing again. A needy kiss in fact. After five days of pure small talk and politeness, they missed each other.
And after this conversation, those three months seemed to go by so fast that they couldn't wait to keep hitting mile stones and living their best life, together.
The end.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING. FEEDBACK IS APPRECIATED AND PRETTY PLEASE COMMENT IF I SHOULD DO MORE SHORT/BLURB POSTS <3

just one kiss.
Pairing: Steve Harrington x Fem! Reader (no physical descriptions)
Tumblr media
Summary: Y/N happens to be falling for Steve but does he feel the same way? (pt. 2)
Word count: 3.9k
Warnings: Friends to lovers trope, based in the aftermath of season 4 but without the sad parts (the ending if y'know what i mean didn't happen like that), douche behaviour, mostly fluff though. Pretty much another teen movie vibes fic. some cursing. shy!reader but also kind of a mess!reader (English is NOT my first language)
A/N: Hi! Thank you so so much for reading Part 1 of Just one kiss. This is still inspired by The Oc season 4 (ryan x taylor) bc i love teen dramas and stevie needs more love in his life. THEREFORE, reader is like an OFC but not really, i say that bc there are a few mentions of her family. ALSO bc this is based on taylor townsend reader has some interesting characteristics but i love that character so much and idk i think it would be pretty cool to see a different kind of reader :)) so anyway if you made it this far...HOPE YOU ENJOY ILY
READ PART 1 HERE
It's been 3 days. 3 days since Steve last saw Y/N and he was feeling confused, to say the least. After that kiss, it's pretty much like what Y/N described. Arriving at Oz and everything popped into technicolor. It's a little cliche for his liking but even he had to admit it was pretty fucking weird that a simple kiss could make you question absolutely everything about a person. Because the truth is, 3 days ago Y/N was just the original not as cool babysitter, now…she was still that, but little things Steve noticed about her before started to be more present. He basically started to remember her existence and just the whole situation was killing him, he didn't know exactly what to do, so of course, he went to Robin. But since Robin wasn't home as in home in Hawkins due to some high school band trip, he was now faced to deal with the impossible task by himself.
Until…Dustin Henderson knocked on his door.
“Hey man,” said Steve not even fully acknowledging his presence, he had bigger things on his mind if you know what I mean...
“Well, well I couldn't help but notice you wanted to talk to Robin,” Dustin mentioned mocking offense.
“Uh-huh so?” Steve of course didn't realize he was kidding, he just started to think about Y/N and--
“Well, since she's out of town and she's probably gonna be moving out the next semester you're gonna need a new Robin. So, I thought I would audition for the job.”
“Oh, uh, yeah that's uh very thoughtful.” Steve didn't fully know if he was joking so he didn't try to say much about it.
“So, how does it work? do I ask you what's on your mind?”
“Uh, usually you just listen to me talk, and then I solve my problems on my own.” Steve deadpanned. That really is how it worked.
“Huh. Well, I couldn't help but noticed that you've been spending time with Y/N.”
Dustin of course loved her. She was the older sister he never had and if Steve and she ended up dating? Are you kidding me? That would be a dream come true for the kid.
“Really? Have I?” It started to feel like the universe was against Steve and the fact that he wanted to stop that growing pull towards Y/N.
“If we're gonna talk about girls, I am a far more knowledgeable resource than Robin. You know…because I have Suzie? I should pretty much give you advice all the time.”
“Okay. But you can't repeat this. Because if the real Robin found out I was telling the substitute Robin, a real secret…”
“It's in the vault.”
“Okay. I kissed Y/N. Or she kissed me. Anyway, there was a kiss and…”
“And now you can't stop thinking about her.”
“That is so cute.” Dustin couldn't help but laugh which caught Steve by surprise. What the hell?
“Pretty much.” Steve was waiting for Dustin to mock him. For some reason, he just seemed to find it hilarious whenever he talked about girls and tried to score them.
Steve narrowed his eyes trying to make sense of what was so funny. “Okay, Robin never does that.”
“Sorry, but it is. And so is she.” Why lie?
“Yeah, I know, just…me and Y/N?”
“After everything you've been through over the last few months, if something good happens, shouldn't you embrace it or at least be open to the possibility?” Hell, Dusty had some advice alright.
Steve couldn't believe he would be taking advice from a 15-year-old that spends most of his time playing D&D, not that there's anything wrong with that but you know…
“Yeah, yeah. I guess. Thanks.”
-----------------------------
It's been 5 days since Steve and Y/N last saw each other. Y/N was still on Steve's mind most of the time, but he decided to push the thoughts behind. He could name a million reasons on why this was a bad idea. But again, the universe seemed to not care about Steve and his reasons when he went to pick up coffee after his shift in the next-door establishment that had a bunch of little shops.
Pulling him out of his thoughts Steve heard her voice. The voice he so badly wanted to hear yet tried to forget about.
“Hi Steve.” said Y/N like nothing happened between them, like two regular friends saying hi to one another.
“I'm-I'm not here to see you. I'm just covering for Robin while she's gone.”
Steve's eyes widen, not here, not now, not anywhere to be perfectly honest. He didn't want to face her, so he did the most jerk thing to do in this situation and ran away, but not before answering her. He had that much decency.
“I gotta go. Can't talk.” he said putting his hand over the side of his face like trying not to see into those beautiful Y/E/C eyes of hers. Fearing that if he did, he wouldn't be able to leave.
“That's nice.” said Steve still walking away, hoping Y/N would give up the conversation.
“Sorry that I kissed you.” after those words came out of her mouth it's like that was all that Steve could now hear. All the background noise disappeared in a matter of seconds leaving him to face her once and for all.
“What? No, it's cool.” he said not even convincing himself.
“It's obviously not okay. You're totally uncomfortable around me now.”
“No, no. It's-- The kiss is not a problem.” At least that was true.
That seemed to relieved Y/N, like even though she was acting as if nothing happened, there was still something spinning at the back of her mind.
“Really? Good, because usually when I kiss a guy, it ends in tears. His, not mine. Because I'm a bit of a lip-biter. And, you know, sometimes I draw blood and...” and she started to ramble again.
“Y/N?”
“Yeah?” she cringed at herself for not learning when to stop talking or when it's too much information for that matter.
“What are you doing tonight?” said Steve in a moment of weakness and sincerity.
Y/N didn't seem to notice what his last statement truly meant.
“Oh, I'm updating my journal. It's kind of a collage really but with these--”
“Y/N, tonight. Are you busy?” Even though he liked to see her excited about these random things he was in kind of a you are making me nervous trance.
“ls that a yes?” Steve asked confused.
Holy shit thought Y/N. Was this actually happening?
“Oh.”
And with that it was like she finally completely reacted to what was happening. Not that was a good thing per se.
“Yes! it is a yes squared...in all caps with an exclamation mark and a smiley-face.” She said way too excited.
“A simple yes will do.” Steve smiled at her. How did he not notice before how cute she was when she got excited?
“Yes.” she answered more calmed now yet giving him one of the most bright and warm smiles he had ever seen. He wanted to capture that look on her face. Truth is she looked gorgeous and he wonder why she didn't smile more often and if he could make her smile more...
“Great, I'll see you tonight.”
“Do you just wanna come up to the comic bookstore?” said Y/N before Steve got to walk away. “There's a big TV, surround-sound, and many VHS.”
Steve thought that sounded perfect. A low-key night. The two of them. That should clear his mind. “All right. See you then.”
----------------------------------------
It had been 5 days since Steve and Y/N saw each other and, on this day, day 5, they were going on a kind of date, Steve's idea by the way.
Y/N couldn't help but tell her sister all about it and with that she decided to help her with her outfit. Sure, it was a casual date thing, but she still wanted to look presentable yet this time in her own style, not unconsciously copying Nancy Wheeler's outfits. No, this time around she would stay true to herself in every way possible. So, with that in mind she decided to wear this brown turtleneck with her washed denim levis that fitted her like a glove. She put on her favorite pair of snickers and did her hair in a casual style. As for makeup, a little blush and mascara never hurt anybody.
Steve showed up at the comic bookstore Y/N told him about earlier without knowing what to think, was this a date? was he trying something out? it was all just too confusing.
Meanwhile, Y/N was putting the VHS on after Steve told her she could choose the movie. He was hoping for something fun, something that would make his thoughts slow down, but it would probably be a chick flick if he was being honest.
At least that's what he thought. Because it was much worse.
“I mean, did you ever think that time travelling could be so beautiful?” said Y/N after Marty McFly got in the famous DeLorean.
Yeah, Y/N didn't know Steve had already seen this movie. Kind of at least. July 4th, 1985. One of the many days he almost died but this time around mainly because of the Russians and that trip him and Robin were in. What a day... anyway. Steve didn't want to mention it because that's not really something you bring up at a date. Or is it a hang out? Either way he wasn't really paying attention. Too many thoughts on his mind, he did have to seem present though.
“How many times have you seen this?” Steve asked trying to make small talk.
“I watch it every night. Helps me relax.” she said way too quick to be perfectly honest. Her eyes were glued to the TV and had one hand in and out of the popcorn bowl.
“Right.”
Steve was slowly losing his mind, he was not only watching the movie that was ironically playing on one of the most traumatic days of his life but aside from that, he couldn't stop thinking on his next move. Should he grab her hand? Put his arm around her shoulders? He went with the latter. And even though he couldn't really tell, Y/N was watching his every move from her side view. They finally locked eyes and started leaning towards each other to share one more kiss.
It was going great. Y/N closed her eyes feeling Steve's hot and minty breath until she didn't anymore. While she was waiting for the kiss, Steve was analyzing her and mentally thinking along the lines of what the hell am I doing? Kissing Y/N again? She’s cute and all but-
“Is everything okay?” Y/N spoke up after realizing that nothing was happening, and that Steve was still looking at her lips. She was feeling pretty self-conscious by now.
“I'm sorry.” Steve left his trance and got up from the couch feeling like he needed some space between the two of them right now.
“So that's a no.” Y/N was confused but mostly hurt. Now it was her turn to overthink, what had she done wrong? Was this a game to him? Or-
“I can't do this.” Steve started feeling overwhelmed. He basically wanted to run out of there, but he knew that he had hurt her bad enough already.
The sadness in Y/N face suddenly washed off and changed to confusion after a little thinking. “Okay. I've done my fair share of misreading signs in my life. But you asked me to hang out. You sat next to me. You leaned in with a slight tilt of your head.”
“I know, I know, and I'm sorry. You're a great girl. It's just, this is too weird.” Jeez Steve. Kill her with kindness?
“That makes me feel so much better.” Y/N stood up, ready to leave the place and avoid the guy as much as she could.
Steve eyes widen at the realization of what he just said and how wrong it sounded. “Me! Not you, me. I'm....weird.”
But by then Y/N was one foot out the door and probably pissed off so that went out great.
----------------------------------------
Day 6. Steve's fail date aftermath. He was hanging in his room going through does books Y/N had given him last week trying to get some work done when someone knocked on his door. Again.
He was expecting Dustin begging him for a ride when in reality it was one Eddie Munson. Now that, he wouldn't expect.
“Hey man. So, Dustin told me he came in yesterday and applied for the job of substitute Robin.”
“He may have.” Steve knew where he was going with this. It was no secret Steve and Eddie became friends after the Vecna situation, but he never expected him to actually care.
“Well, you know…if anyone's qualified, I think we all know it's me. I'm thinking the reason you didn't ask is because no interview was necessary.”
“It turns out. I may not have to fill the position. I handled the whole Y/N thing. Although it may be a little awkward for a while.”
“What happened?” Eddie's voice became a little defensive. He liked Y/N, she has always been nice to him, and she had killer music taste so, even though Steve and himself might be friends now, he might need to smack some sense into the boy if he hurts her in any way.
“Nothing happened.”
“Which was the problem for her.” Eddie could also read Y/N like the back of his hand so, of course it would be a problem for her, he knew about the little crush she had on Harrington.
“Yeah. But now I don't know. At first, I thought I was caught up in the whole Nance thing. Then I thought the problem might have been Y/N because she can be a little weird.”
That made Eddie laughs a little. He wasn't completely wrong but who wouldn't love a chick like that? “She's a touch eccentric.”
“But now I think the problems me. Maybe it's too soon.”
“So, keep it casual. You know, just tell her you need to be friends for now.”
“Yeah, that's a line every girl loves to hear.” Steve's mind went back to that fancy party they went to last week where he said he liked her as a friend. Beautiful words really.
“Well, if it's the truth, she'll understand.”
Steve let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. “Well, I don't have any other choice. So, I'll give it a shot.”
----------------------------------------
It was day 7. Officially one week after the kiss that started this whole mess. Steve went to visit Y/N at the gift shop where she worked part time. Hoping he would find her, give her the best explanation possible and maybe go and get some coffee if he was lucky that is.
“Y/N.” Steve entered the store all hopeful. One could almost see hearts in his eyes.
“Steve.” Y/N said dryly. Steve hated not hearing the honey-like voice that would come out of her mouth whenever she said his name before. But he gets it. He would be pissed too.
“Boo!” said Y/N mimicking a scary pose.
Steve was confused but gave her a warm smile remembering what Eddie said about her been eccentric.
“Didn't run away that time, so you must not be that scared of me.”
“Brad, Steve. Steve, Brad.” Of course, his name was Brad.
Oh. “Alright, look, I just wanted to come by and apologize about last night, and... And I didn't know you had company.”
This whole time Steve was focusing on the sound of her voice or how cute she looked in that outfit that he didn't notice the blonde standing next to her who was probably a jock.
“Brad.”
“Steve.”
Well, it definitely was awkward.
“I've been helping Brad track down this Michael J. Fox biography. It turns out that he watches Back to the Future every night before he goes to bed too.” said Y/N with a proud grin.
“Wow, that's--” again with Back to the Future, awesome.
“Kismet? I know. Maybe it's too soon to talk about fate, but...” Y/N was using all the dramatic romance tactics that she has seen on TV. The talk about destiny and soulmates. But that was all it was, talk. Not that Steve realized that.
“Yeah, anyway, I just wanted to see if you needed a ride home or anything.”
“Oh, I got my bike, thanks.” said Brad. How cute.
“Not you.”
“Well, that is very friendly of you, Steve. Since I'm assuming that's what you want us to be, just friends.” she's always one step ahead of him he had to give her that.
“Well, if you're cool with that.” mumbled Steve. He didn't know if he was jealous or nervous, but neither were a good option.
“All right, well, you know, I'll see you, then.”
“Steve Harrington, mon ami. Sounds terrif.” Y/N gave her hand to Steve to shake and get this over with. She wanted to seem like what he did, didn't affect her. That she had moved on.
“But Brad and I were just gonna hang out and order some takeout...so if you don't mind…” she was basically kicking him out. Not that he could blame her.
“Bye, friend.” said Y/N in that dry tone again. A tone that Steve got to hate.
“Bye, Steve. Nice to meet you, man.”
“Bye, Brad...”
----------------------------------------
It's been an entire week and Steve still couldn't get Y/N out of his mind. Which sucked for him, but the good news was that Robin arrived that day too, so at least he was excited to discuss different things with her again.
“So, the good news is, I think she likes me. Bad news is, I'm not sure if she still has a boyfriend.”
She must mean Vickie.
“What?” Steve had spaced out again.
“Vickie was at the trip. Stuff happened. I'm about to head over to her house.”
Then it clicked. Vickie and Y/N were neighbors.
“Can I come?” said Steve with this tone of anxiety all over him.
“I appreciate your interest, but I think this is a conversation just for the two of us.”
“ls Y/N gonna be there?”
“I assume so...”
“I like her.” Steve didn't hesitate this time. He had no excuses either.
“Say what now? Why would you even think that?” Robin was surprised. She was gone a week and suddenly he liked her back?
“Because I keep imagining her on roller skates…and washing windows with a big bucket of soapy water.”
“Dude, your fantasies are so pedestrian. A sudsy girl? That's so average.”
“Doesn't mean it's not hot.”
“I guess they call them classics for a reason.”
“Do you wanna drive or should l?”
 ---------------------------------
Steve entered Y/N's house which was full of teenagers. Was Y/N L/N having a party? Nope. Soon he realized it was her sister's birthday party. Still, that meant she must be in the house somewhere.
“Y/N? You here?” Steve decided to check the rooms, maybe she was hiding in there or watching Back to the Future again. He wouldn't be surprised but as soon as he opened the door to the next room, he heard a familiar voice under the covers of the bed next to some laughter.
“Steve?” Brad's head popped out of the duvet to take a better look at him.
What the fuck? “Brad, hey. Keep doing what you're doing. I was looking for Y/N, but clearly, she's--”
“Who's Y/N? Is this your boyfriend?” that's when another guy showed his face under the covers.
Steve was just confused by now but the larger issue at hand was, “Y/N isn't in there with you guys, is she?”
“Nope.”
“I barely even know her. She told me if I pretended to like her, she'd give me her employees discount at the shop. It's extremely rare.”
With that Steve felt the biggest relief. He wasn't too late.
“Okay. Um, what are you doing, man? I mean, I think Y/N really likes you. And your kind of leading her on.”
“Wait, she paid you to pretend to like her? Huh. That sounds like Y/N. All right, well, carry on.”
--------------------------------------------
Finally, after what felt like hours, he found Y/N in the kitchen, and he cursed himself for not checking there sooner.
“Y/N.”
“Steve.” That dry tone again.
“What are you doing?”
“Someone wrote I love poop on this poor guy's face. That kind of thing can scar you for life.” she said as she rubbed his forehead with a sponge hoping the sharpie would come off.
“No, what are you doing paying your gay friend Brad to pretend he's in love with you?”
“It's a little strange.” he couldn't help but say.
Oh, that.
“Well, what if I did hmm? What if I did rent a homosexual for the evening? And pay him with rare gifts from my employee discount? What difference does it make to you?” Y/N was now standing at his eye level making a serious face because she in fact was genuinely curious.
Y/N tossed her hands to her sides with desperation. “Well, so am l. Which is why you ran away from me last night.”
“No, it wasn't because you're strange.”
“You don't find me strange?” Y/N narrowed her eyes. That would be a first.
“No, I do, but it's not why I took off.” Well, never mind.
Might as well rip off the band-aid. “Look, I'm not really ready for a relationship right now. Or a girlfriend.”
“Girlfriend? Cart, horse. Aren't you getting a little ahead of yourself there?” Y/N scoffed.
“Well, I mean, just because I wanna spend time with you...doesn't mean that we have to get married.”
“I see.” Steve couldn't help but smile, it was like she was reading his mind.
“Look, you're a sweet, smart, great guy, Steve Harrington. And hot. Did I mention hot?”
Okay so now she got him fully blushing, his cheeks were turning red and he had that little smirk that could melt the hearts of a thousand people.
“So, whatever happens, happens.” look at her being all smooth.
“Y/N, that's--”
“Normal? Yeah. I have my moments.”
And with that they were going for the next kiss, the first kiss since last week. Their faces were so close together--
“You know, this is my first college bash. Have you ever played Seven Minutes in Heaven?” Poor Y/N didn't realize those weren't the games they played at a university party but Steve found it so adorable that he didn't want to burst her bubble of the world.
---------------------------------------
She drew him toward her with her eyes, he inclined his face toward hers when suddenly but surely their lips touched, this kiss felt more eager but passionate at the same time. They were fully making out by now and Steve was filled with the warm and fuzzy feeling he had the other day that he saw her smile. He thought—
“Okay, seven minutes are up. Said you wanted to take it slow.” said Y/N in a mocking but sweet tone.
“Yeah, well, I don't think eight minutes would be rushing it. Nine seems like a good pace. And- and ten is a nice, round number.”
Steve started to realize about the power she was slowly having over him, she could lure him back anytime she wanted he just had to be honest about it.
There will be a part 3 bc I want relationship progress! 😊 love you guys thank you so much for reading. Should I start a tag list? Comment if you would be interested! Okay bye! Have an amazing weekend and see you next week

READ PART 2 HERE
Y/N L/N has always felt like she's living on the sidelines of the interesting life in Hawkins. She was the party's original babysitter and that's pretty much the only reason she found out about the Upside Down. Or that's what she likes to believe because it's easier to try to figure out why she feels so lonely all the time even when surrounded by so many people who are compassionate and loyal. I guess it all started with that little voice in her head telling her all kinds of bad things about herself and what others must have thought of her. As a kid, that voice was barely a whisper, mainly appeared when she felt anxious or guilty, but as she grew older, in her teenage years…that's when it all started to change. I wish I could say for the better though. Her anxiety just grew, and people just thought she was odd, which is way too dramatic, but high school, right? Judgment was in everyone's shadow.
Of course, she had always heard of Steve Harrington, hell, they were in the same grade but for Y/N, high school was just an enter, take classes, leave, sort of thing. While Steve lived for high school. He was their king after all.
In the year 1984 though, Y/N started to notice Steve more when he ended up helping a very dorky-looking Dustin Henderson while Y/N was babysitting, which they all forgot she was doing until they saw her casually hanging out in his house like she did every other day. From that day on, Y/N saw Steve Harrington in a different light. And she also noticed the change. She first noticed when Steve told Nancy, aka the girl who just a few days prior had broken his heart to go after Jonathan. Yeah, no one really saw that coming but no one really thought of it too much, except for Y/N of course, who after hearing the story from her lab partner about Tina's party made her catch up on the "drama" and to say she was intrigued would be an understatement.
By 1985, Y/N finally made what she felt was her first genuine friend that wasn't a 13-year-old or someone she technically worked for. Yeah, Robin Buckley. And when she found out she was working with Steve at the new mall…well, that made them more than acquaintances. Or that's what she thought. But the truth is Steve didn't see Y/N with that admiration and puppy eyes she did for him and most of the time it didn't bother her because it wasn't something new, but occasionally when that voice I was talking about would creep in, she couldn't help but feel…doomed. Again, dramatic, but that's 18-year-olds for you.
One day Y/N had enough. And by one day, I mean, the night she saw Sixteen Candles for what would be the first time of many. She decided she would not wait around or feel sorry for herself like Samantha, even though Molly Ringwald became her new role model. She would start gaining Steve's heart or…at least try.
Later that week Y/N went to visit Robin to get some info on Steve's dating life and what he thought of her…if he ever did that is.
Y/N entered the familiar video store looking for Robin. She knew she hated to talk about Steve's dating life because let's face it, she heard about it a lot. More than she would like to admit. So, Y/N brought Robin her favorite type of bagel in hopes to convince her. Robin already suspected she had a thing for Steve, but she didn't want to push it for so many reasons.
“Oh no…” said Robin when she saw that I'm going to ask you for something, and I brought something to convince you face. And she did not want to hear about it right now, it's been a long day having a solo shift and all.
“Robin! Good, you're here.” Y/N approached her with all of her bubbly excitement that didn't really match that shy energy she portrayed sometimes.
“Actually…I was just-” anyone aside from Y/N could tell that even though Robin loved her and would take a bullet for her, the love life of one Steve Harrington was something she didn't want to discuss. At least not before a well-deserved nap.
“You might want to sit down. I have huge news and a favor to ask you.”
“You like Steve, and you want my help convincing him to date you?” Robin deadpanned. If they were going to do this, at least she wanted to be straightforward about the issue at hand.
“Wow,” said Y/N surprised. Was she being obvious? Did she say something to make it obvious? Or did something? Yeah, hello inside voice.
“--It's kind of a giveaway. You said he's funny.” And there it was. Robin could not be any less thrilled about this, but this was her best friend after all.
Y/N decided to ignore that inside voice of hers by telling Robin all about this awakening she supposedly, suddenly had.
“It's crazy. I mean, I've always thought of him as a cute guy, might be good for a night of rough-and-tumble fun but it's not like we have anything in common.”
“So, ignore it, it's probably just gas.” could Robin convince her to not go there? That it would end up in just heartbreak? Because as much as she loved Y/N, she didn't really know if she was Steve's type. Steve's type being... Nancy Wheeler or, at least that was before Jonathan came back and Steve went through a second heartbreak.
“But then he helped with all the things that were happening at Hawkins and he grew into this…lovable cute guy, and it was like Dorothy landing in Oz, everything just popped into technicolor.” Y/N continued not being able to stop that growing smile of hers.
“Huh,” said Robin. She didn't really know what to say without unintentionally hurting her feelings.
Y/N's smile faded in a heartbeat; now her face held a sad look. “Do you think I don't know what that means?”
“I said, huh.” Robin was coming off as kind of a douche, but honesty was one of the things she loved most about the girl.
“Meaning, “huh, that Y/N, she is so pathetic. Someone's the least bit nice to her and she becomes totally obsessed with them, first that science tutor of hers and then the guy from New York when he lent her a subway ticket, now Steve.”
“Oh, you know, well isn't it’s kind of true?” Robin couldn't help but recall all those events being the first to hear about them. To say Y/N had attachment issues...well, we won't go there.
“So what? Yes. I have a psychological predilection to become romantically attached to men who are nice to me due to the fact that I was raised by a she-wolf of a mother who practiced emotional terrorism. Does that mean that if by some miracle love does come into my life, I should deny it? What kind of person would that make me mhm? What kind of life?”
Y/N was rambling and at this point, how could she explain her feelings when they have all ended up in some sort of humiliation? One would think she would give up but... she always had hope, people had to give her that.
“Okay, okay, Y/N, what do you want me to do?”
Like if Y/N knew her love life would get Robin to agree she went back to that excited tone she had on earlier. “Find out if he's ready to start dating.”
------------------------------------
Robin called Steve's house knowing that he had the day off and was probably sleeping or feeling sorry for himself. That seemed to be a recurring theme around Hawkins nowadays.
“Hello.”
“Hey,” said Steve recognizing Robin’s voice instantly.
“Uh so, glad your home. Finished the movie last night?” she had to make it seem like a natural conversation but starting with the small talk was probably not the most Robin thing to say.
“Which one?”
“Aha. Are you ready to date again?” Again, Robin couldn't help but want to get to the point so she could finish this argument for the day.
“What?” Steve was taken back. First, Robin got used to getting annoyed with Steve's endless dating life stories, now, she clearly was asking if he was ready to start dating again after... Nance the sequel.
“Simple question.” you could tell the urgency in Robin’s voice.
“I have no idea. Why?” said Steve confused.
“Okay. Cool.” that's when Robin hung up the family video phone and told Y/N about the short conversation she just had.
"He's not sure," said Robin, begging for this to be over.
"Interesting." Well, it wasn't a no per se so, Y/N's hope was definitely intact.
 -----------------------------------
Later that week Y/N tried to get closer to Steve, by showing up to his shifts and renting random movies he would recommend, hoping Steve would come and pick Dustin up when she was babysitting, she even went out of her comfort zone to try and met him at some of the most popular spots for teenagers. But nothing seemed to work, she was convinced Steve was not interested at all; these were all big coincidences and formalities. Not gonna lie, that crushed her spirit a little bit. Therefore, she was now laying on her bed feeling sorry for herself like one normally does of course.
That's when her sister came in shouting.
“Y/N did you take my lip gloss with the bee pheromones on it?”
“It's on the dresser…” Y/N's voice sounded sad and defeated which caught her sister's attention.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, peachy.” the sarcasm was great in these types of moments.
“Talk.”
Y/N sighed, even though she really didn't want to talk about it she could use some sisterly advice and from someone who won't try to judge her or look down on her.
“Okay, so, what do you do when you like a boy, and he barely knows you're alive and you already pretended to be his money advisor and I'm…out of options.” she cringed at her own words realizing how crazy she was sounding right now.
“Okay…Well, this may sound a little weird but try dressing up fabulous and going to a place where you'll run into him.” said her sister as a matter of factly, like this was some common knowledge that maybe Y/N never heard about.
“That's it?” Y/N sat up looking at her sister better to tell if she was being serious. And she was.
“That's it.”
“That really works?” Y/N couldn't believe it, that sounded way too simple and maybe just maybe she shouldn't have tried too hard.
“Almost every time” her sister decided to continue sharing some of the tips she had learned over the years. “And I mean, touching his arm when you guys are talkin, it's always good, dancing, and body contact and laugh at his jokes- I mean, even if they're not that funny.”
“Oh! I do that already! Okay, what else?” Y/N excitement was coming out again as if it was restoring itself and was ready to try again.
“You could…walk in front of him, I mean if he's a butt guy…”
Y/N looked serious for a moment thinking about what she just said. “I don't know if he's a butt guy…”
“Well, it can't hurt, I mean sis, you have a great butt.” she knew her sister could use all the confidence in the world right now and she was more than happy to provide it, in the end, Y/N has always been there for her, and she wanted nothing but the best for her.
“You're such a sweetie! Tell me more.”
 ---------------------------------
A few days later some girl from high school was throwing a party for Hawkins High class of '84. Meaning, that Y/N and Steve would be there. Probably Robin too now that he and Robin were pretty much glued to the hip.
So, of course, Y/N saw this as the perfect opportunity. She dressed up like her sister told her to, she decided on this pastel pink dress with some puffy sleeves, lace on top and a cute flower pattern, to be honest, it was a little too girly for her taste, she almost went back to change into her baggy jeans and an oversized colorful sweater but she knew that wouldn't catch Steve's attention so she chose her first option in the hopes to not embarrass herself in the process.
Arriving at the party Y/N found this new confidence in herself at least for the next few hours she thought.
“Hello Steve,” she said giving him her best put-together smile while shoving all her nerves inside.
“Y/N, hi…you look um…” Steve was stunned, no reason to lie here. To say he wasn't expecting her in that outfit would be...correct.
“I look nice?” Y/N said probably too quickly. To this moment we can't tell if it was intentional or not.
“Nice, yeah. That's the word I was looking for.” Steve mumbled that last part. Truth is, she looked gorgeous anyone could see that but he couldn't help but notice she didn't really look like herself but who was he to judge on her fashion choices? So, he let it go.
“Well, so do you. Would you like to dance?” Part two of Y/N's plan was getting close to Steve in hopes to talk more.
Steve's eyes widen, he didn't really do dancing anymore. “Actually, I'm not much of a dancer, probably shocking.”
“Maybe you'll learn” Y/N cringed at herself and how she was supposed to think before she talked. “Not that I'm a teacher or anything, of course. It's just you know…fun.” she had to stop her rambling somewhere...
Steve couldn't help but smile. “Yeah, okay.”
“Okay.” With that Y/N returned that smile in no time, hoping she didn't look too eager.
Steve and Y/N realized this was a fancy house party when they suddenly started to play Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper. Probably not their first choice, they were hoping for a little Toto or maybe even Billy Joel. So, after that awkward moment of shall we really slow dance? passed and Steve gestured for Y/N in a May I have this dance matter she giggled and put her arms around his neck while he was curling up by her waist.
“We did not hate you,” said Steve now talking to Y/N about the old days at Hawkins High when he was King Steve. Knowing about supernatural creatures and graduating in the same year was about everything they had in common so for a topic of discussion they decided to talk about the latter.
“Oh, you totally hated me, come on, you were probably the president of we hate Y/N club.” Everyone could tell Y/N was shy and an introverted soul, but she could take a punch either it meant literally or emotionally. But of course, this conversation was meant to be outgoing and fun, leaving all their cringy selves in the open.
“I was the secretary. I took the notes.”
“Steve! you made a real joke.” Y/N couldn't help but crack a smile so big that her cheeks started hurting.
Steve got a little shy and he mumbled a little bit. “Yeah… a pretty bad one but I made a real joke, thank you but don't tell anyone.”
After that, the song ended and before it became awkward again, Steve decided to do something about it before it was too late. He was actually having fun after all.
“You wanna drink?”
“That'd be nice.”
Steve walked to the kitchen to get himself and Y/N a drink when he noticed Robin walk in with a grin on her face. Of course, she saw that whole scene.
“Hey,” said Steve without really looking at her, too busy serving the right drinks. Something with a fruity flavor for Y/N he thought.
“Hey! saw ya dancing with Y/N.” And there it was.
That made Steve look in her direction for a moment. “Yeah. Is that look supposed to mean something?” he deadpanned, of course, he knew she was implying something.
“Crazier things have happened. Nothing I can't recall this instant.”
Steve didn't find this conversation amusing. For some reason, he started to realize he was getting defensive about the topic. It's not like it's the first time Robin had said something like that but about a different girl of course. “Okay. I don't think so.”
“Ask yourself why. She's smart, she's funny-” You could tell Robin had really thought about what Y/N had said to her and decided to support her friend.
“Buckley just forget about it okay? I'm not gonna date Y/N.”
And of course, with the great luck they usually had, Y/N had just walked to see if Steve needed help with the drinks. Robin noticed her first and gave her this apologetic look, of course, she didn't want her to feel bad and the same applied to Steve, so he cursed himself for saying it out loud.
Y/N had this deer caught in the headlights look like she was just humiliated which would make sense.
“Ahm I was just…excuse me,” she said before walking off and leaving the house. Trying to find her keys as fast as possible so she could just drive away and forget this ever happened.
“Y/N, Y/N whoa whoa whoa hold on, let me explain.” Steve got out himself trying to stop her.
“I think you were pretty clear Steve. And yes, I lied when you asked me that one time if I liked you but…what was I thinking I mean, you and me? It's just…I must be totally crazy-”
“You're not crazy, okay?” he said in a heartbeat. Probably didn't even realize it.
“Steve, I pretended to be your money advisor to seduce you.”
Huh. Yeah, he kinda did forget about that. “Well, that was crazy.”
“Don't worry because I'm sure next week I'll be totally obsessed with some guy who gives me change for parking,” she said sarcasm dripping down every word.
“Look, what I said has absolutely nothing to do with you okay? It's just that…”
“What? That…for the longest time all you could feel was your desire to get back Nancy Wheeler but now that's gone so you feel empty, can't feel anything, least of all anything for me?”
Steve opened and closed his mouth a few times after he found any words. Because believe it or not she did have that effect on him. To leave him speechless. Why? That he didn't know yet.
“How do you keep doing that?”
“Doing what?” said Y/N confused.
“That. You keep telling me what I'm thinking before I feel it.”
Oh. “Because I think about you. I want you to be happy and I think that if you gave it a chance you might feel something too.” she thought what the hell better lay everything down now that he knows, she wasn't expecting on telling him like this but like always she remained hopeful.
“Y/N…” Shit. Steve didn't want to hurt her feelings I mean; he knew what it felt like to be rejected after pouring your heart out to someone and he felt like crap to do it to someone else.
But before he could continue Y/N decided to answer for him.
“Are you gonna tell me that you really like me as a friend?” she narrowed her eyes and it felt like she could see right through his soul.
Damn. She's good. “Maybe…?”
Clearly, that's the worst thing he could have said when she just walked away with this annoyed pace if that even is a thing. Leaving Steve alone with his thoughts.
“How did she do that?”
 --------------------------------------
Later that night Y/N decided to visit Robin's house. Even though tonight was a total wreck she had one last thing to do. Which made her knock on Robin’s door hoping she would answer. And she did.
“Robin,” said Y/N in this sad tone.
“Y/N! What are you doing here?” she wasn't expecting her at 1 in the morning outside her house.
“Um…when I had really bad grades last year, my sister's boyfriend gave me this finances guide and I thought it might help Steve with his problems, I would have given it to him before, but I was trying to seduce him so…” she couldn't help and look at her shoes. Realizing she hasn't changed from her Cinderella outfit if you will.
“So, why can't you just give it to him?”
“Because. I'm too embarrassed. You were totally right. Here I am, trying to get into college and living like a refugee at my sister's, and Steve's nice to me so I fall for him? it's just totally pathetic. Just, please give that to him.”
Well shit, now Robin felt even more terrible.
“Wow, I never thought I would see you quitting.”
That made Y/N look up in surprise. “What? It's completely hopeless Robin, you heard him.”
“Yeah no, it's just, you rolling over like an old dog…not the Y/N I remember…”
“Are you seriously trying to Jedi mind trick me?” Y/N deadpanned.
“Y/N L/N, quitter. I guess I'll just have to get used to that.”
Sure, Y/N's ego was a little bruised, but Robin was kinda right, that was taking it too far. Hell, she has fought Demogorgons and she was scared to face Steve Harrington? No. No way.
“Fine.”
 ---------------------------------
Y/N soon realized Steve was staying at Robin's for the night due to not wanting to be in his big house alone for the night, so, why not crash with your best friend after a long day?
“Hi,” Y/N said as she walked into the living room where Steve was putting a duvet on the big couch so he could sleep there.
“Hey…” Steve looked up in surprise.
“Um…I brought you some books. I'm not trying to be your advisor I just thought it might help you.” truth be told, Y/N didn't know why she had to do this in the middle of the night, maybe she had a feeling, maybe she wasn't ready to give up.
“Thanks.” Steve said dryly.
“What am I doing?” Y/N turned around ready to leave the house feeling utterly pathetic for what felt like the tenth time that night.
“Woah hold on. Look, I gotta say something.” Steve had been thinking of what to say to her again since she left the party.
“Um…I think you've got this idea that you're this strange person that has to trick people into liking her and it's not true, you're um, you're amazing.”
Y/N was in awe, she definitely didn't expect that. She couldn't help to laugh either.
“Oh my god, you just did it to me.”
“Did what?”
“Said exactly what I was feeling. Well, except for the me being amazing part.”
Steve smiled at that. “Well, it's true and uh…honestly you know, I wish I did feel something.”
Y/N thought for a moment. This might be a huge mistake but since she was here putting herself on the line again. Why not? Her dignity was already in a questionable situation.
“Kiss me.”
Well, Steve wasn't expecting that. He looked at her trying to understand if he heard that right.
“Uh…what?”
“I think that there's something there and I think that if you kiss me, you'll feel it too.”
“Uh, I don't think that's how it works?”
“Come on, if you don't feel anything, I will never mention it again. That's the best deal you'll ever get, ask Robin. Just one kiss.”
Truth be told, Steve wasn't sure why he found this so difficult, it's not like he hasn't kissed girls just for the hell of it, but something did feel different. Deep down maybe he was scared that he would actually feel something. He didn't believe this was a thing, but you never know.
“One kiss…one kiss,” he said coming closer.
“Okay,” said Y/N leaning in.
Y/N wasn't an excellent kisser that she knew of, she had only kissed one guy before but there was something that told her that if he was the one, the kiss would be perfect either way.
So, Y/N kissed Steve. It was tender and soft, one kiss turned into two. Steve's body was frozen except for his lips. He wanted to cup her face and pull her even closer but was it because he hadn't been kissed like that in a long time? Or was he actually feeling something? That's when Y/N pulled away interrupting his thoughts. He was surprised which led to him making this shocked face.
“I'm sorry.”
Y/N felt like a ton of bricks just had hit her. What did she do? She couldn't help but look at her feet again and run away.
Steve didn't call after her, he just stood there, still frozen, processing everything that just happened since she walked in. His thoughts were racing mainly "What the fuck just happened" he decided to lie on the couch and whatever had just burst into him...he would figure out tomorrow.
 FEEDBACK IS GREATLY APPRECIATED <3

READ PART 1 HERE
Steve was about to enter Robin's house determined on telling her and not backing down like earlier. But behind him running, was Y/N trying to catch him before he did.
"Hey." Y/N grabbed his wrist and pulled this worried expression. She seemed upset too.
"Hey. Hey, Y/N/N, what's wrong?" said Steve while he hugged her trying to calm her breathing.
“Look, Steve…we can’t do this okay?"
"Can’t do what?" Steve questioned nervously.
"I have to be the one to tell her, okay? I mean, things are really complicated between me and Robin, and it has nothing to do with you, it's just…look it has to come from me or else it is going to ruin everything." she said with the most anxious tone Steve had ever seen Y/N carry.
"Okay, okay, that's okay. Just calm down Y/N/N, it's alright. We'll do whatever you want to do okay?" he hugged her again.
Steve decided to keep talking and see if that would calm her a little. "I mean, you wanna know God's honest truths? I've been in the process of chickening out the whole way over here." he said chuckling lightly.
That only made Y/N overthink even more. "Maybe is a sign, Steve."
"A sign of what?"
Y/N didn't know if she should continue honestly but she thought Steve deserved the truth.
"It's just that for so long, she's been everything to me Steve, I mean this girl has been my family when I hadn't had one, and she's the one person in my life who I can always depend on and this, this is gonna kill her."
Steve then sighed, realizing something. “You never had any intention of telling her, did ya?" he then smiled. "You didn't come here tonight to tell her; you came here to stop me from doing-"
Y/N quickly cut him off, shaking her head. "No, I tried to tell her, I went up there and I tried-"
"Of course, you did but, let me guess, you failed right?"
After that Robin came out of the house. It seemed they weren't as discrete and quiet as they thought.
"I thought I heard something out here." she deadpanned.
To say Steve and Y/N weren't expecting that would be an understatement. Y/N thought she had at least a few more minutes to figure this out, you know, what she was going to say to her and all that jazz. But then again, when was Y/N that lucky? she felt frozen, overwhelmed even.
“Robin…uh…we were just-” Y/N couldn't find the right words without spilling out the truth.
“You were arguing, obviously, what about?”
Steve looked at Y/N and noticed how she was spiraling so why not rip the band-aid off already.
After sighing and trying to look confident looking in her eyes he said. “Us Robin. We were arguing about us. Me and Y/N there's an us here now. And I'm sorry Rob we've been wanting to tell you.”
“You didn't tell me.” Robin's tone was one they had never heard before. It was certain and emotionless like she was hiding her true feelings on the situation, holding back really.
That's when Y/N thought about it, how Robin didn't seem shocked at all but more betrayed. “You know, don't you?”
“Yeah, I know. So, were you planning on telling me or was this going to be a secret fling? You could hear the venom coming out of her words. She was truly hurt, and her sweet mechanism changed to a bitter one that almost never came out, not even in life-or-death matters.
“It's not like that.” said Y/N trying to keep strong for Steve and herself.
“Then how was it? because Nancy was a little short on the details.”
“What? she thought I knew. I mean, I must be pretty fucking stupid not to know, right? that the two people I trusted most in the world were lying to me. So, are you bored, confused, or just malicious?” Yeah…the hurtful words just kept coming out, her bottled emotions could not be contained any longer.
“She told you?!” that's when Y/N snapped.
That wasn't the answer she expected. She thought maybe Robin had seen them when they thought they have been sneaky enough but…Nancy, that was a surprise.
Now it was Steve's turn to snap, he was confused at Robin's mean approach. “Hey! look, I started this thing, okay? if you're gonna get angry at someone get angry at me, it's not-”
“I don't think you're in any position to talk about what's fair. You were my best friend.” she said with hurt in her eyes.
“I still am.” Steve felt a sting in his chest, like if someone had just ripped something in him.
“Finding it a little hard to process right now.”
“It's the truth, Robin.” Steve was truly trying to convince her that this wouldn't change anything between any of them.
“So, I guess it's safe to assume that friendship doesn't come above sex and your list of personal priorities-”
“This has nothing to do with sex.” he interrupted. He wasn't surprised she went there I mean, that was a main topic of conversation in Steve's personal life.
“So, what, are you in love? is that what this is?” Robin mocked. She thought it was funny somehow. Her best friends who loathed each other in love.
That's when Steve looked at Y/N with hopeful eyes. He was in love, he has been for a while now but how could he ever tell her, it scared him more than anything. More than any Demogorgon, or any Russian invasion, getting his heart broken again after Nancy, as dramatic as it might sound, he didn't know how he would fix himself again if that was the case.
“Don't- don't look at her. Don't look at her. You know Steve? I feel sorry for you because when this is over you've really gonna need your friends and you're not gonna have any.”
Of course, deep down Robin didn't mean that, she knew Steve was there for all of them for good. They were all a family after everything they been through but in that moment the “backstabbing” was stronger than that family bond.
That's when Robin went back inside not been able to look at them any longer without saying more things she would regret later. Steve stood frozen, overthinking everything that had happened in the last minute and a half. Y/N in the other hand, rushed behind Robin to continue the conversation and hopefully make her understand.
“I didn't intend for this to happen Robin.” cried Y/N.
“What you intended does not provide me any solace. What- do you love him? do you just want to sleep with him? Robin was giving this desperate voice like trying to process everything and understand it at the same time.
“No, how could you even say that?” Y/N felt sad, that her best friend would think so low of her.
“Then why-why, because you kept on saying that you want to find yourself and is-is this what you've been looking for this whole time? Is Steve what you've been looking for?
“No!” Y/N was also started to get frustrated; she didn't know how to explain what was going on between Steve and her. It was new but at the same time it felt so familiar and…right.
“Then, explain it to me, explain it to me how two people who can barely stand to be in the same room with each other, end up outside my window arguing about the future of their relationship?”
“I can't, okay? I can't explain it okay? It happened. Everything is so complicated-”
Robin couldn't help but interrupt Y/N because it still made no sense to her.
“If things are complicated is because you made them that way. Okay? and you think that whatever that's wrong when you were with someone else suddenly magically gets better now that you're with him?”
“I don't know Robin. I don't know, okay?! I just…I just know that I need him.”
At this point Y/N was crying. She didn't want to lose her best friend and she knew this would affect their friendship forever so…she had to make a desperate decision that would change everything…again.
---------------------------------------------------
After that awful argument with Robin Y/N went to find Steve. There were some things they had to figure out and it most likely would end in heartbreak. Who would be the heartbreaker though?
Steve was sitting in the biggest rock in Lover's lake when he saw her. The most beautiful girl he had ever seen, the one girl that drove him crazy, the girl that 3 hours ago would be making him the happiest man alive, now, she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen that will possibly break his heart. So, when Y/N sat next to him he couldn't help but feel sad.
“Ever have one of those days you wish you could live all over again?” said Y/N with a defeated smile.
Steve didn't feel like answering but did anyway. “Yeah. You?”
“Yeah.”
“So, what would you have done differently?” Steve took this as an opportunity to know more about where she was standing when it came to their relationship.
Y/N sighed. “I don't know. Everything? Nothing at all. We would still end up right back here. And I don't think I know what here is.”
“Here is right where we started.” said Steve now copying Y/N's defeated smile.
“Steve…”
“It's over isn’t it?” he didn't want to hear it but the small talk was killing him.
“It has to be.” said Y/N. And just then, she could have sworn she heard his and her own heart break.
Steve just nodded like he saw it coming. “Maybe you should be the first one to go this time.”
---------------------------------------------------
While Y/N was doing her regular babysitting for Mrs. Henderson, Dustin appeared with this idiotic grin which just confused her.
“Just thought that you might want to know that uh…unbeknownst to you a particular attitudinally challenged fellow babysitter is preparing to leave Hawkins for the summer. Seems he's going to drive himself down to the city for the next three months.”
After Steve's heartbreak, Dustin couldn't help but feel bad for him not only for how badly things ended but because he didn't have his back, he didn't support him and his relationship and now he was truly sorry and trying to get them back together.
“When does he leave?” said Y/N being curious since it's the first time she's hearing about this but at the same time playing it cool. Like if it wasn't affecting the shit out of her.
“In a couple of days. I just thought you might like to know about it before it was too late for you to uh…say or do something.” Dustin was using that tone that meant he was giving some sort of hint.
“Thanks.” that's all Y/N brought herself to answer.
---------------------------------------------------
After her babysitting hours Y/N decided to look for Steve and set the record straight. That's when she finally saw him leave a coffee shop with a chocolate bar in hand.
She quickly jumped and started walking next to him. “This is your solution?” Yeah, she was feeling very straight forward.
“What are you talking about?” said Steve. He on the other hand wasn't in the mood for any type of conversation with her, even though he could hear her talk forever, right now it just felt too soon to be interacting with each other.
“You're leaving.” she deadpanned.
“Uh-huh.”
“Just when things get tough, you're gonna pack up and leave?” Y/N was frustrated for so many reasons, she didn´t want him to leave yet she also didn´t want to feel like this.
“Well, that’s the general idea, yeah.”
“Oh, real mature Steve.”
Steve was having enough of this conversation like if breaking his heart wasn't enough. This conversation seemed very hypocritical of her but at the same time he missed her. He missed her voice, the way she walked when she was mad. Those beautiful Y/E/C eyes that in his opinion could cure disease, yet he couldn't help but snap back at her.
“Well, what do you want me to do? Sit around all summer and watch from afar as you and some other guy attempt to resuscitate your ailing relationships? No thanks.”
Y/N scoffed with offense. “I expected you to at least say goodbye.”
That made Steve slightly chuckle. “Oh yeah, the goodbye scene, played that one over a thousand times in my head. I come to you heart in hand and announce my plans, you look at me pain in the eyes but then of course the Y/L/N sarcasm kicks in and I leave never getting what I came for.”
“And what is that, Steve?”
“You never asked me to stay. Ever.”
Y/N eyes widen, how could she do that? “That's not my decision.”
“Yes, it is. It always has been. You may be too afraid to make it but let's be honest with each other here, the decision to be together or not to be together has always been yours.”
“And that’s exactly what you got. You're going to get three more months of it.”
That made Y/N shake her head because even though she knew it was somehow true, she didn't want to admit it.
“All I asked for was time.”
“You know, I may be undecided Steve but at least I’m not running away. You can dress it up any way you want still comes down to the same thing. Giving up.”
“Yeah, you.”
Well, now that made Steve lose it with some chuckles, I mean, was she being serious? Has she met herself?
“I'm giving up?”
“Me? Really? You don't want to think about it just a little bit Y/N/N?”
“Me neither, but it's the ending we got isn't it?”
For what felt like the first time in her life according to Steve, Y/N got the hint.
“You know, believe it or not Steve this is not the ending that I asked for-”
“Yeah. I guess it is.” And with that Y/N walked away asking herself what she thought she was going to solve or why, it was clearly still rocky territory but deep down she knew that it was all because she still needed Steve and wanted him, therefor letting him go like that felt final.
---------------------------------------------------
After Y/N last encounter with Steve she decided to take a walk, truth be told she wasn't a “I'm taking a walk” type of person but this time it felt different, and she hope it would clear her mind. After 20 minutes of undying spiraling, Y/N unconsciously ended up at Robin's house. So, she knocked on the door and was greeted graciously by her parents which just made her nostalgic.
When Y/N found Robin, she thought that if they were gonna mend their friendship and try to get things back to normal that she should be completely honest with her. So, they sat down, and Y/N just started blabbing everything that she was feeling.
“Rob…” she exhaled. “The thing is, your house is my house and there hasn't been a single significant event I've experienced that you haven't experienced with me, and I was so afraid of losing that but, if that wasn't the choice, and if I thought that there was chance that you would forgive me, I may have chosen differently. And you deserve to know that.”
That left Robin speechless. Has she been over-reacting? I mean, obviously, but was it justified? was the real question Robin was trying to answer now. She started remembering little comments and conversations with Steve, the way he talked about Y/N, she should have noticed that even though Y/N was still going on dates when they became friends, it was different for Steve. She found it odd when he stopped asking out every girl that showed at Family Video, but she thought it was because he was still somehow in a Nance trance. But no…it was Y/N all along and she should have said something before she was just in denial because what if it ended poorly like every other relationship either of them had been in? She wouldn't be able to live with that but…this wasn't about her. Ever since she asked Steve to help Y/N, it stopped been her business. Which now, there was only one thing she could do to make this right again.
---------------------------------------------------
Robin was at the top of valedictorian choices for the next and last school year and for that they made her make a speech, an inspiring and relatable speech. And just by hearing it out loud Y/N couldn't help but cry. It left her speechless.
“Your speech was beautiful.”
“Thanks.” said Robin with nerves in her voice.
“What you said…did you mean it?”
“Every word. Which is why you should turn around and go to Steve.”
“What?” Y/N didn't know if she heard that correctly, I mean she couldn't have…could she?
“Last year you had the opportunity to go to New York and you stayed because of me.”
“Robin that wasn't your fault.”
“It was my fault because I should have made you go. But I was selfish, and I didn't want you to go I wanted you to stay here with me. And I refuse to make that mistake again.”
“Well Robin I mean what if it's my choice? I mean what if I want to stay?” somehow Y/N was still trying to convince herself that this was what she wanted. But Robin finally saw clearly, even when Y/N didn't.
“Y/N come on. Even I can see it. Steve is this year's New York and this time you must go. You must see for yourself all right, I can stand here and tell you that it's a colossal mistake, I mean it's not gonna make a difference, words, and speeches sound great, but they don't add up to anything, all that matters right now is what you want.”
“I don't even know what I want Robin.”
“Yes, you do. You want him. You love him, the only difference is that he loves you the same way back and you deserve that. Okay, and I'm not gonna be the one who stands in the way of you getting there.”
Y/N started crying she didn't know what this meant for them, what this would mean for Robin and Steve too.
“But Robin, I want us all to still be friends and I want to know that you don´t hate us.”
“They are just words Y/N. Just words. Because after this your gonna turn around and walk away, aren't you?”
“I have to otherwise I'll never know.”
“Then go, Y/N.”
---------------------------------------------------
After Y/N went home and changed she went by Steve's house hoping she would still find him. Hoping it wasn't too late to make things right.
“Steve! Steve!” she was running around like a crazy person but what else could she do, she was desperate.
Steve appeared in the driveway confused. “You want something Y/N/N?”
His presence made Y/N smile, knowing that maybe she would be able to fix this. “I want to talk to you.”
But Steve wasn't really having it. “No no, bit late for this now. I'm leaving, you can't stop me.”
“No, that’s not why I’m here.”
“So why are you here? To say goodbye again, maybe you wanted to rub it in a little bit huh?”
Y/N could only shake her head. “Look I don’t want to stop you Steve, and I don’t want to stop Robin, and I don’t want to be stopped not by either of you, not by anyone. See, I mean that’s what this whole year has been about we've been trying to stop each other from moving on and growing up but not you, I mean you're different and you've challenged me every step of the way and you've been there every step of the way.”
Well as nice as that sounded Steve was getting impatient with her beating around the bush. “Y/N/N, departure time is in t minus 30 seconds so if there's a point, I suggest you get to it.”
“I think I’m in love with you.” she breathed out.
That made Steve take interest again but wasn't quite there yet. “You think or you know?”
“I know. I've known since the moment that you kissed me and maybe even before that and as scary as it is I don’t want to deny it anymore Steve. I don’t want to run from it, and I don’t want to let it run from me.”
Steve turned to her and started smiling back at her. “So…what are we going to do here Y/N/N?”
“I wanna come with you.”
“You what? are you crazy?” Steve appreciated the declaration but that just sounded way too spontaneous even for Y/N.
“I want to stop standing still, I want to move forward, I want to come with you.”
“What about the kids? they need you.”
“Not as much as I need you, Steve.”
Steve couldn't help but grin and finally grab Y/N to kiss her after what felt…too long. It was at this moment that they knew they were here to last, and their love was worth fighting for.
THE END.

READ PART 2 HERE
Ever have one of those days you wish you could live all over again?
Well, it all started a couple of weeks ago...
Y/N found a pay phone and called Steve after a failed night out. But I should probably tell you why she called Steve or better yet, how she met Steve.
Y/N has been Robin's best friend since they were five years old. It is your classic "I hope our kids become best friends" type of story. And of course, they did. Y/N was always the quiet kid in school; until she met hyper little Robin. It pretty much started with a simple "Wanna come play with me? I brought my new pet rocks!" and well, how could Y/N say no to that? From that moment on it was them against the world. Sure, they only had each other but that was more than enough.
And let's remember that nothing ever came between them, I mean, the way they love one another is something anyone should be jealous of. And when Robin was understanding her identity and felt scared about her own feelings and how others would react, she never hesitated to tell Y/N about them, she knew she would never judge her and that there wasn't anything they wouldn't do for each other. They were family after all.
But then came the year 1985.
Y/N and Robin were supposed to get summer jobs so they could save up for college and move in together. It has been their dream since they were twelve. Them against the artsy city of New York. Therefore, Y/N started working at the coffee shop near the new mall and Robin at the ice cream shop in the new mall. And that's when it all started to change. Maybe that's a bit dramatic, but we should probably continue with the fact that Steve "The hair" Harrington was Robin's co-worker at Scoops Ahoy.
If we thought Robin and Steve didn't get along or in better words, find each other's company annoying, Y/N and Steve had nothing on them. They could barely stand each other, always bickering and calling each other names. Many said it was because there was too much sexual tension but they would say it was pure loathing. Again, dramatic, but that's how it felt at the time.
When Robin and Steve finally became friends, they went to visit Y/N at the coffee shop. Steve protested but he could never win an argument against Robin. Y/N saw Robin and immediately started smiling, that was until she saw Steve with her of course, her smile turned into a frown with an annoyed look on her face, but what could she do? they were also best friends now. So, when they all sat in the modern coffee shop waiting for Y/N to start her shift, that's when she saw what she thought was one of the most handsome men she has ever seen. So she stopped listening to whatever argument Steve and Robin were having today.
"So, what do you think Y/N?" said Robin hoping her friend would back her up.
"Y/N? Earth to Y/N." Steve started shaking his hand in front of her face making her wake up from her daydreaming.
"What?" she said with a face none of them recognized on her but Steve still tried to figure out.
Robin looked in the direction Y/N was daydreaming and noticed the guy waiting in line. "Who is that?"
"Who's who?" Y/N said hoping that it sounded cool enough for them to not ask any more questions or better yet, to not embarrass her.
"Uh...the guy who's breaking your neck?" said Steve with an amused face.
"Could it be? Y/N is finally noticing the opposite sex?"
Y/N frowned for what felt like eight times that day. "Bite me, Steve." she deadpanned.
Steve could only smirk at that and couldn't help but tease a little more. "Um, excuse me, young man! This woman here thinks you're very attractive!"
Y/N widen her eyes and put her hand on Steve's mouth so he would stop talking. "You asshole!"
The guy in the white shirt turned around and locked eyes with Y/N and he couldn't help but smile at her.
After Y/N returned the smile and saw the guy walking in, she turned to Steve with an entirely different facial expression.
"I'm going to kill you, one night in your sleep, a slit throat, maybe, or a screwdriver to your temple. Be ready." that's when she got up and left.
And of course, Robin just stayed there confused about what just happened in the last minute.
-------------------------------------------------
Later, Y/N and the guy in the white shirt, which turned out to have a name, Scott, became Y/N's first real boyfriend. And it was nice... for a couple of months until they broke up because Scott thought they needed time apart. Yeah, pretty shitty. But that leads us to this:
The party was throwing a get-together and of course, Robin, Steve, and Y/N were invited, even Vickie, Robin's current crush. But Y/N didn't show. She was still in her depression stage. And Robin being the best friend she was tried almost everything to make her feel better but Y/N was convinced she was in love with Scott and that's why it hurt so much so... Robin's last resource believe it or not was Steve Harrington. He was a great listener and an amazing friend when he wanted to be... so Robin decided to ask him a favour.
"You should have seen her...Steve...I need to know that she's okay. Could you talk to her and watch over her for a while?" said Robin sweetly hoping to convince him.
"Oh no, no, no, no." Steve chuckled nervously at the request. Y/N hated his guts how was he supposed to do that?
"She needs someone Steve, not that she would ever admit it."
Steve started making this "I really don't want to do this” face, like when someone asks you to do the dishes or something but how could he say no to Robin? It was scientifically impossible.
"You would be doing it as a favour to me, please." She begged. She never begged. So with that, Steve accepted.
Later that day, it was Steve's first attempt at standing by Y/N's side as long as she needed someone. That much he knew.
While Y/N was crying by herself like one does and having the biggest pity party, she couldn't help but notice the figure of a man, a man with a very distinguished haircut.
"Ahoy there! Anyone on the shore?" said Steve. Yeah, don't know what he expected with that. I blame it on the nerves.
"What are you doing here?" Yep. She sounded annoyed between those sniffs.
"It's the damnest thing, I just got into my car and magically drifted to your house."
"Yeah well, magically drift any closer and I'll kill you" Yeah...she loved giving him death threats.
"You know, I almost believed that..." said Steve.
Y/N looked at Steve while he sat next to her and notice that smug smile he did when he tried to be nice. "She told you didn't she?"
He nervously sighed. "What do you think?"
"I think I hate you both."
"Well you really gonna hate me when you hear what I got to say...he did the right thing, Scott, I mean."
That made Y/N look his way again but this time with a confused expression, waiting for him to continue. "You both need to be apart right now."
"How would you know what I need?" answered Y/N with a very dry tone.
"Yeah..." Steve scoffed. "You know, you're probably right. How could I possibly know how hard it is to let somebody go right? The pain of knowing that even though you're right for each other, that doesn't necessarily mean you're right for each other right now. What would I know about that right?"
Y/N closed her eyes and hoped the tears would stop coming out. But of course, she never was that lucky.
"Of all the people to see me like this, it had to be you." She finally answered, wipping her tears.
Steve chuckled. "Well you know, it's a new year, who knows, you and I might even become friends."
Y/N glared at him. "Steve, I'm upset enough as it is."
Steve smiled and put his armed around Y/N hoping it would bring her comfort somehow and when she didn't move, flinch or punch him he had this warm feeling inside which only grew when she started crying on his shoulder, seeking that comfort.
And that is the how and why that made Y/N call Steve that night. Somehow thanks to Robin and that shitty breakup with Scott.
---------------------------------------------------
So, anyway, back to the day it all changed for the two of them.
Y/N waited for Steve to pick her up and hoped he wouldn't ask any questions. But then again, when did he not?
"Hey, so what happened?" Steve asked of course.
"Nothing happened." Y/N just wanted to go home and change from the fancy outfit that she now found stupid.
Steve only felt more curious. "You got bored? you got homesick? you finally ripped off his rubber mask and revealed his true alien features? what?"
"I don't want to talk about it." she couldn't get more clear than that.
The boy scoffed in fake offense. "Oh well, forgive me if I'm having a little bit of trouble with the “no questions asked” part."
By then, they both got in the car and Steve started driving for what felt like an eternity but Y/N couldn't stand to be in that place any longer.
"So, are you ever gonna speak again? come on Y/N, say something."
Y/N with a short temper finally answered what she was hoping to avoid. "What do you want me to say Steve? “You were right”? you were right okay? right as always. Steve Harrington, the only person in my life who ever speaks the truth." she said with a fake smile.
Steve found that ironic, you know, because of the fact that with time he started developing feelings for the Y/H/C girl. But that's a story for another day.
"That's not entirely accurate." he mumbled.
"Well, you told me what was going to happen."
"Which was what Y/N/N? what happened up there?"
Steve truly just wanted to help. He couldn't stand to see her sad, he just wanted to take all her pain away all the time, even for the smallest thing, he just wanted her to be happy.
"There was another girl." said Y/N taking Steve out of his thoughts.
"Oh…I'm sorry Y/N/N." Even though he secretly wished she would be with him, he truly was sorry.
"You know, the whole time that I was watching them I just kept thinking, this is it. This is real. Just like Steve said. This is the real thing. And it reminded me once again what exactly I don't have."
Again, Steve thought this conversation was just ironic, making him want to profess his undying love for her, but he decided to keep it vague. He couldn't risk the friendship they had developed and of course, the promise he made to Robin, the "off limits" promise as he likes to call it.
"You keep looking and you'll find it." smooth Steve, smooth.
Y/N obviously didn't get the hint "I won't. I mean isn't that obvious by now? I'm not meant to."
How dramatic could she be? "Why? because you're 18 and alone? come on…"
"No, because I'm 18 and in my entire life there have been two people that actually know me Steve. Robin and-"
"This Tobey guy didn't know you, alright? I don't care how you felt about him Y/N/N, he didn't know you because if he did, he would never have walked away." that Steve got worked up over her last choice of words was an understatement.
"I was going to say you, Steve." Y/N sighed.
Steve took a deep breath and consider his options hoping he wouldn't regret them later. Which made him pull over at the side of the road.
"Have you totally lost it?" Y/N panicked at the sudden change.
"Nope. Not totally. Not yet." Steve said getting out of the car.
Y/N was stunned by that but she mimicked Steve's actions and followed him.
Steve started pacing around becoming more nervous by the second. "Okay, what did you mean by that?"
Y/N was trying to figure out what the hell was happening right now. "By what?" she questioned.
"About me knowing you better than anybody else."
"Exactly what I said Steve. You know me, okay? and in a way that nobody else besides Robin ever has-"
Steve was starting to lose his patience, Y/N's oblivious nature frustrated him sometimes. "We're not talking about Robin right now, we're talking about me. I mean you can't keep up doing this to me, Y/L/N." he let out a breath he didn't realize he was kinda holding in.
Y/N was officially confused "Doing what?! what so I count on you and tell you secrets and suddenly-"
"And you call me in the middle of the night to pick you up, why?" Did he have to spell it out for her? It wouldn't surprise him if he did.
"I'm sorry that I called, I thought that I-"
"I'm not mad that you called me, I just want to know why you called me."
"You were the first person that I thought of Steve."
"And what does that mean Y/N/N?" This is it. This has to be it, thought Steve.
"It- it means…I guess it means that I can talk to you and that you're there for me."
Yeah, it wasn't, clearly, he would need to show her and that clueless mind of hers. "Don't you ever get tired of talking?" said Steve barely holding his thoughts together.
Y/N furrowed her eyebrows so hard one would think they would have stayed like that forever. "No. No, I don't get tired of talking. I don't- no."
"I don't want to talk anymore."
"What are you trying to say, Steve? why are we standing here? I don't-"
Steve thought it was now or never. He rushed over to her, closing the remaining gap between them, and gave her the most tender yet passionate kiss either of them had ever experienced. Y/N was taken by surprise and at first, was in shock until she couldn't help it and melted into his lips and his embrace. It was heavenly after all.
---------------------------------------------------
One week later.
Everyone was waiting for Steve's birthday party. He complained but everyone was so persistent with doing something nice for him and the fact that they also crave some normal, monster-free activities.
"Oh, hey, look. There's Robin and Vickie." said Max with relief.
Lucas noticed. "Got the champagne?"
Robin smiled proudly at her accomplishment of getting the drinks while moving the bottle in the air. "Right here. Oop! Whoa. That was almost a disaster." she then took the bottle with both hands to prevent an accident that would end with the party not having some type of alcohol.
"Hey, guys."
"Hey." said the kids in unison. Pretty weird if you ask Robin.
"So, uh, where's Y/N? I thought she was coming with us." asked Max.
"She, uh, wanted to stop at the library and plow through that watergate history assignment."
Or....at least that's what she told Robin.
Because meanwhile in Steve's bedroom. A heavy makeout session was in the process. That has been happening a lot lately. And with a lot, I mean every day. Whenever they saw each other, they couldn't help but feel the deep attraction that was unlocked after that surprise kiss one week ago.
"Come on. Let's go, Steve." said Y/N between needy, sloppy kisses.
Steve only hummed and carried her to his desk so they could be more comfortable.
"It's your birthday party we're planning on going to." Y/N kept trying.
Finally, Steve found the strength to answer. "I have a birthday party?" he said mocking surprise.
"Mmm." the kisses just kept getting more determined which alarmed Y/N.
"No, we have to stop this. It's wrong." said Y/N with a whiny voice.
Steve was only partially listening. "Yes. Dead wrong."
While the brunette boy started kissing her neck, in between the pleasure she felt her overthinking mind also stepped in.
"Steve. Look, we've been in denial all week." she said moving him back a little so he would look at her.
"I mean, when we're around other people, we pretend like nothing's changed, and then the minute we're alone, it turns into this."
Steve furrowed his eyebrows. He truly was interested in what Y/N would say their relationship now was. "This what?"
Y/N thought for a second. "Well, this…embarrassing grope fest."
Steve hummed in agreement. "Yeah, I guess this is kind of embarrassing, huh? Especially for you, given how much you protested." he kissed her again.
Y/N kissed him back but then pulled him away smiling playfully. "I did not protest."
"You did too."
The kissing didn't stop until Steve backed down after his own overthinking.
"Wait, wait, wait, wait."
"What?" questioned Y/N.
Steve sighed. "I gotta tell her, Y/N/N. We do. We gotta tell her as soon as possible, because the longer we wait, Y/N/N, the worse it gets."
Y/N shook her head. "No, Steve. I've tried. I've tried plenty of times to--"
"Every time I see Robin now, I just feel like--"
"You don't have to bother filling in the expletive, okay?" said Y/N in a low voice.
"I mean, this isn't exactly the easiest thing I've ever had to do, Steve-- telling Robin that while she wasn't looking, I developed this bizarre gravitational pull towards her best friend, and I can't stop thinking about him or wanting to be near him or wanting to kiss him, all the time." And, the kissing started again. It was undeniable,
"I'll do it. I'll tell her." said Steve looking deep into her Y/E/C eyes to let her know he was serious.
Y/N thought about it for a second but then she shook her head again. "No, I can't let you do that. It's--this is my responsibility."
"Y/N/N, it's not your responsibility. I'm the one that started this, remember? I'm the one that got you into this situation. And, frankly, the only way that I want to save my friendship with Robin is to be completely honest with her, so I gotta do this. All I need is one day. Just one day."
Y/N decided to trust him. "One day."
"Yes." said Steve while kissing her forehead. "One day."
---------------------------------------------------
Steve waited outside Robin's window, hoping the strength to get in and see her would arrive. To many, this would seem a bit dramatic but given Steve's history with girls, Robin didn't want Y/N to be one of them and end up getting hurt, or, even the other way around. She hoped that it was possible for one straight boy and girl to remain only friends.
Taking him out of his thoughts, Steve noticed Nancy walking toward him.
"Hey."
"Hey, Steve." she said with an empathic voice.
She was the only one that knew what was going on between Y/N and Steve after Y/N needed some serious girl talk, she of course didn't mention Steve's name but Nancy figured it out in no time.
"Nobody home?"
"I don't know, actually." Steve mumbled.
"Could knock and find out."
Steve finally looked at her. "I could just walk right in, you know. They never lock it. I've been coming here, just walking right through the front door, making myself at home."
Nancy hummed at his response and notice how nervous he was. "She wants to be with you, Steve. She does." she said talking about Y/N of course.
Steve furrowed his eyebrows. "And you know this how?"
"Told me so this morning."
"Why am I not happy to hear that right now?" said Steve with a dry nervous chuckle.
"Well, because right now you've gotta walk through that front door and tell your best friend that the only girl in the universe she asked you to stay away from…"
"Is the same one that I can’t live without." Steve sighed.
"Yeah." said Nancy in an almost whisper-type voice feeling sorry for him.
"I've had this conversation with her in my head a thousand times."
"Yeah? how's it go?" said Nancy smiling a little.
"Oh, you know, Robin saying something along the lines of…"Vaya con Dios, Steve." She deserves a shot at being happy. Now…why don't you give it a try?"
Nancy kept smiling and nodding."It could happen. Just minus the spanish part."
Steve chuckled. "Yeah."
That was the first failed attempt at telling Robin the secret that was eating both of her best friends up.
---------------------------------------------------
Steve entered his house remembering he was also going to meet with Dustin.
Just two seconds later he noticed the curly hair boy. "Where the hell have you been?"
"Henderson, I'm sorry. Look, me and Y/N came to a really important decision." Oh right, Dustin also knew about Steve and Y/N little love fest.
Dustin looked surprised. "Woah woah woah wait, since when are you and Y/N deciding anything?"
Steve grinned. "You're gonna like this one, 'cause it turns out you were right. She's into me, man. That's why she got so freaked out when I kissed her."
"Really?" said Dustin with a doubtful tone.
"Yeah."
"So, then you told Robin?" Of course, he was going to ask that.
"Uh…no, not exactly. That's what I was trying to do all morning, Henderson. Remember the little errand that I had to run, but it just…turned into this wild goose chase, and… I didn't think it was going to take that long. I'm sorry."
Dustin decided to give him a piece of his mind now that things seemed to be getting more complicated.
"Look. Telling Robin that you kissed Y/N in a moment of weakness is a hell of a lot different than sneaking around with her behind her back, don't you think?" Dustin then sighed at Steve's sad eyes.
"Look, Steve, at the end of the day, Y/N and Robin, they're gonna stay friends or whatever it is that they are, and you're gonna end up alone. All right? no girlfriend, no friend, just completely and utterly alone. Think about it. I was right before, wasn't I?"
Even though it sounded cruel, they all know how sensitive the topic was for Robin. The party of course would support them and probably say "fucking finally" but Robin...she was in denial of all that chemistry.
---------------------------------------------------
Steve was walking to Robin's house determined on telling her and not backing down like earlier. But behind him running, was Y/N trying to catch him before he entered.
"Hey." Y/N grabbed his wrist and pulled this worried expression. She seemed upset too.
"Hey. Hey, Y/N/N, what's wrong?" said Steve while he hugged her trying to calm her breathing.
“Look, Steve…we can’t do this okay?"
"Can’t do what?" Steve questioned nerviously.
"A sign of what?"
Steve decided to keep talking and see if that would calm her a little.
"I mean, you wanna know God's honest truths? I've been in the process of chickening out the whole way over here." he said chuckling lightly.
That only made Y/N overthink even more.
"Maybe is a sign, Steve."
"You never had any intention of telling her, did ya?" he then smiled. "You didn't come here tonight to tell her, you came here to stop me from doing-"
Y/N quickly cutted him off shaking her head. "No, I tried to tell her, I went up there and I tried-"
"Of course, you did but, let me guess, you failed right?"
After that Robin came out of the house. It seemed they weren't as discrete and quiet as they thought.
"I thought I heard something out here." she deadpanned.

A/N: might turn this into a whole fic??
- Steve...
Steve keeps walking.
-Do you have any idea how pissed off I am at you right now?
Steve stops and turns around.
- No. The best memories of my life are in there. It represents everything that's good to me in this world, so…you just gotta excuse me if I'm having a bit of a hard time letting all that go right now.
- No, I won't excuse you. I don't think I´ve ever been so scared for someone in my whole life.
Y/N starts crying.
- I'm sorry that I put you through that.
- Just…can you do me a favor? You know, in the future when you're dealing with life and death matters, um…remember that you´re thinking for two.
Steve smiles.
- I can do that.

------------------------------------------
Steve found himself outside of Hawkins High waiting for his girlfriend to come out so they could hang out, it's been a while since they had their fun, you know, with Y/N worrying about her college applications and Steve working full time at the new mall.
When Y/N didn't show he decided to go inside what could be described by many as the hell hole. Steve was a little nervous, but he had to do something, so, he walked in and started looking for the Y/H/C girl. After what seemed like an eternity of looking and asking around, he saw her going down the stairs by herself and he thought it would be the perfect time to surprise her.
“Steve! what are you doing here?”
Steve moved very quietly to where Y/N was now standing and picked her up from behind causing her to yelp for a moment until she realized what was happening. They both started to giggle in a way that would make lots of people throw up. It was way too adorable.
“Well, Missy, you took a while and I decided to come to look for you”
“Right…sorry, I was looking at the last details for the party on Saturday night.”
Oh, yeah, Steve remembers 'the party'. “Do we have to?” he whined.
“Yes, Steve, we have to,” said Y/N for what felt like the tenth time.
“Well, have you thought about hiring an escort? Because from what I'm told you can't take me anywhere.”
“I called around, but they're all out of socially-presentable man-meat.”
“What if I just broke up with you? What would you do then?”
“Look, do what you have to do. You're still coming with me.”
“Fascist.” Steve sighed.
“Scaredy-cat,” said Y/N with a dramatic shocked voice.
“Are we at least gonna have a good time?” he said hopefully but deep down he knew it wasn't very likely.
“My guess is no.” Why sugarcoat it?
“So why can't we just say “Nay” to the whole idea of hanging out with the prep school contingent, and go over to Dustin's party?”
"Because, Steve, that would severely diminish my chances of getting into college," she said a matter of factly.
"Well, when you put it that way--"
"Stevie?" she started doing that pouty face that melted Steve's heart. Every. Time.
"Yes." he looked down, it was hard to look at that face and stay in check with your initial argument.
"You know how important this party is to me."
"Yes, I know," he said in a whisper-like voice.
"And being in a relationship means that sometimes you have to do things that you don't particularly enjoy for that other person."
"Yeah."
That made Steve finally look up. "Oh, hold on. Do you think that I enjoy those dinners for one second? For the record, we could stop those at any time." his voice becoming more excited.
Y/N decided to continue to prove her point. "You know, for me, that would be Sunday dinners with your parents."
Steve chuckled lightly. "Yeah, I really am. Is it working?"
Y/N could read his intentions. At the end of the day, she knew him better than anyone. "I know you're still trying to get out of this party."
"It's like watching a train wreck." She deadpanned and gave him a kiss on the cheek with a grin on her face.
Later that week
The couple started walking with arms linked to each other. Y/N was wearing a simple black dress that cut at the knee with some sensible black heels. Steve, on the other hand, was wearing a suit, which Y/N haven't seen him in since his graduation day. Let's be real, he looked extremely handsome, with his perfect hair and that smile that could cure disease.
"You know, we can always just turn around. Which would, of course, be incredibly cowardly."
Walking through the stairs you could tell Y/N was nervous by how she kept furrowing her face making her look worried. Steve like always, noticed that.
Y/N breathed out. "Yet sounds incredibly appealing." she let out a nervous laugh.
By this point Steve couldn't take his eyes off her, he felt truly lucky to be able to call her his. Lost in thought he couldn't help but smile.
Y/N looked at Steve with confusion in her eyes, yet his face also made her smile. "You're grinning like an idiot."
"Yeah, I know. I can't help it," he said with such a gentle voice.
"Why?" She was beginning to get nervous. What could he possibly be smiling about right now?
"Because…I'm the only guy at this party who gets to walk in with Audrey Hepburn on his arm." Yep. Steve in love was a total sap. No one can convince us otherwise.
-------------------------------------
"You've certainly been quiet tonight, Miss Y/L/N."
Steve and Y/N sat at the table with Walter, the head figure of admissions. Making Y/N even more nervous if that's even possible.
Y/N chuckled awkwardly. "Just soaking it all in, I guess."
"Why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself?"
Damn, could this get any worse? "Um...there's really not much to tell. I'm pretty much your average teenage girl," she said with a tender smile that she hoped would hide all her insecurities right now.
By now Y/N was hoping for a miracle that would make things less awkward.
"Having reviewed your application, I hardly think so. I seem to remember a certain fondness for art. Have you been to the Guggenheim?"
"No, but I have always wanted to go to New York..."
"Well, the building itself…It's really the most amazing feat of construction. It's an extraordinary combination of intersecting shapes. It's an architectural epiphany."
Steve could tell how uncomfortable Y/N was, she had this embarrassed look on her face so he thought it wouldn't hurt if he cut in on the conversation.
"Nah, I don't know. You ask me, the thing just looks like a big artichoke."
Y/N turned to him in total shock and so did the other guests. Silence overcame the table until of course Steve kept talking.
"No, I'm serious, it does."
Walter looked intrigued by his comment. "Oh, so you've been?" you could tell it was a genuine question with genuine interest.
"Well, no, but my parents, their big architecture buffs, and they're into those coffee table art books. So, I've seen all the pictures, and I'm here to tell you, it looks like a big artichoke."
After what felt like the most awkward tension they had ever lived, Walter started to laugh, making everyone laugh with him like some type of clockwork.
"Big artichoke. You're right. It does look like an artichoke." he seemed to not be able to control his laughter. Y/N smiled confused and gave a little laugh at the scene.
----------------------------------
"So, then the Rabbi says, “Rectum? I damn near killed 'em!”
Y/N seemed to not be able to make a profound conversation like she hoped to make the best impression. She just sat there contemplating what she could do to make this better while Steve here was making Walter have a great time with his funny little comments. Y/N knew Steve had always been a social butterfly, he used to be “King Steve” for a reason. But she certainly wasn't expecting him to enjoy this so much after the crap he gave her earlier this week about the event.
Walter kept laughing the entire time. "Good one, right?" said Steve with that smile.
He was nearly choking by how much he was laughing at this point. While Y/N just could help but be a little jealous of Steve's social skills.
"It's very good. Y/N, I had no idea your boyfriend was such a charmer."
She gave a fake smile that only Steve could read. "Who knew?"
Walter got serious for a moment. "Emerson could use a young man like you, Steve. Why haven't you applied?" Well, this got interesting.
Y/N saw this as an opportunity to get some time in the conversation. "Yeah, Steve, why haven't you? She knew the answer, he didn't get into any college yet and his parents were trying to teach him a lesson by making him work his ass off.
Steve got quiet for a moment trying to think of an answer. "Well, I-- To be perfectly honest, uh, both of my parents are real big lefties, so for me, it's Yale or nothing."
"Well, that certainly is our loss." Walter seemed genuinely sad at that answer.
Y/N had enough by now, she didn't understand what the hell was happening right now.
"Hey, Steve, can I talk to you for a second?"
"Yeah sure." he seemed very calm.
"Outside. Excuse us." she faked a smile again.
--------------
Y/N started to walk as fast as she could, and she looked pissed.
"Steve, I can't believe you just did that."
"Just did what?" he didn't see any problem.
"You lied!" she got more and more desperate by the second.
That's when Steve started to understand where she was going with this.
"Hold on a second--"
"After that whole pseudo-motivational diatribe, you flat out lied."
"Y/N/N, can I have the floor for just a second--" he really wanted to explain what was going on inside.
"Why are you trying so hard to impress these people?"
"Are you done yet?" he deadpanned.
She seemed to not be able to stop saying all her thoughts making it impossible for Steve to explain himself.
"I don't even know who you are right now." she sighed.
"All I'm try-"
"Excuse me, Steve. Excuse me. I would love for you to meet the dean. Do you mind, Y/N?" Walter seemed very excited.
And of course, with their luck, they were interrupted. By Walter of all people.
What was Y/N supposed to even say to that? "Course not." she fake smiled for the third time that night.
"Sure," said Steve, looking at Y/N with an unreadable expression while he turned the other way.
Walter started to chuckle. "He's a great guy. An old friend. I'd love for him to hear the, uh…"
"Two Rabbis."
"Yeah." He laughed.
--------------------------------------
Y/N sat at one of the benches outside and couldn't help but cry. What happened tonight? It clearly didn't go as she wanted, and sadness took over her while she sobbed. She didn't even notice Walter coming back outside.
"Hi, Y/N," he said with an understanding tone.
Shit. Y/N thought. She wiped her tears and acted like he didn't see her crying her eyes out just a second ago. "Uh, hi, Mr. Kubelik, um…I'm sorry, I…I think I need to apologize."
He was confused but calmed. "Really? Whatever for?"
Y/N sighed. "Well, I think I blew it tonight. And it's just, um, this is kind of a whole new world for me, and I, um, I don't really know what to do or what to say, and I know that I don't fit in very well--"
"Y/N, you didn't blow anything. Your academic record stands on its own. You're a stunningly bright young lady. No one is grading you on your social skills.
She looked a little more relieved. Like she could breathe again.
"Be that as it may, you couldn't ask for a better character witness than that boyfriend of yours."
Y/N looked up into his eyes confused and wanting him to elaborate on his last comment.
"Seriously. He just talked the dean's ear off, all about you. How you've changed him, how you've helped him. How he couldn't imagine a better life than one with you by his side. What a rare gift, to have someone say such things about you."
She couldn't help to smile a little and get all shy about it.
--------------------------------------
Finally, the party was over, and Y/N joined Steve after she said her goodbyes to some people at the event. Even though the last time they saw each other they didn't see eye to eye, the moment they looked at each other, they felt the need to be in each other's arms.
"Apology accepted," mumbled Steve.
Y/N removed her head from his shoulder. "I didn't apologize, Stevie," she said while furrowing her eyebrows in confusion.
"Well, no, but you were going to."
Y/N gave him a smug smile. "I was?"
"Yeah, you were going to apologize for bitching me out earlier." he was being pretty forward about the whole situation, you had to give him that.
Y/N started to match his energy. "And what about you? You're the one who lied."
Of course. Steve looked deep into her eyes so she could see his honesty. "Did it ever occur to you that maybe I was doing that all for you?"
Y/N's eyebrows shoot up. "And how, exactly, do I benefit from your distortion of the truth?"
"Well," he started to stroke her hair very delicately and continued with all he wanted to say earlier.
"Maybe I just wanted these people to see you through my eyes just for one night. To see this girl, this woman, who has more class and intelligence and beauty and grace than anyone else who's walking the face of the planet."
Y/N's eyes started to water; she opened her mouth to say something, but she shut it again when he kept going.
"And maybe things like this just come tumbling out of my mouth because I happen to be head over heels in love with you, but the really scary thing is--is…I think that they're true."
Y/N's heart melted but at the same time, she started to feel guilt and embarrassment because of her reaction earlier.
"Sorry, Steve. I just wanted to impress these people so bad, you know, to fit in, and I completely froze."
Steve cupped her face and with the softest voice, one could ever imagine he said. "Hey, that doesn't matter."
She took a step back from his embrace. Anxiety took over her. "Yes, it does! I've never wanted anything so bad in my whole life. And you--you just fit right in better than I ever will."
So that's what this was about. "Because there's nothing at stake for me here, Y/N/N. I have nothing to prove to these people. And Y/N/N, this world, is opening its doors to you. And when you step through, you are going to be such an amazing part of all of this.  And wherever you choose to go, you're doing them the favor, not the other way around.
"You know, your mom should get a medal."
Jeez. Y/N truly was tearing up with a small smile. She would never get used to Steve's love words. It made her heart do flip-flops, to say the least.
Well, Steve wasn't expecting that, but he went along with it. "Mom? Really, why's that?"
"Because she raised the perfect boy. And maybe things like that just tumble out of my mouth because I happen to be head over heels in love with you, but the scary thing is, I think it's true," she said with the biggest smile.
Steve pulled away for a second, staying very close to her."Mmm. What do you say if you and I take our little mutual admiration society on the road? Please, can we go someplace we both fit in?"
They couldn't help but chuckle at each other's words making them have the most passionate yet tender kiss that day.
"Yeah. Let's go."

Number four.
Pairing: Steve Harrington x Fem! Reader (no physical descriptions)
Tumblr media
Summary: Steve and Y/N worry about their future together after high school. (Hope that's a good enough summary...)
Word count: 2,9k
Warnings: Based in season 2 Steve, Nancy and Steve never dated, underage drinking, drunk reader, Steve being kind of a douche, little angst?? Mostly fluff though. Also, like one curse word. (English is NOT my first language)
A/N: Hi! So, this is my first fic…I´m very excited but also super nervous. I wanted to write this because Steve reminds me a lot of Pacey Witter, one of my favorite characters ever so I thought I would do a Dawson´s Creek episode homage to a scene I love so, yeah, anyway…hope you guys enjoy! <3
Steve Harrington or King Steve as many in Hawkins High are used to calling him, he's the kind of guy to make someone nervous just by his mere presence, and don't even think about him talking to you because you will probably be left frozen to even respond. He's got the looks too, a high school version of Tom Cruise if you will, with that award-winning smile and hair that could possibly get its own talk show, Steve Harrington was the envy of many boys and girls in Hawkins.
However, Steve here was good at keeping secrets. Like the fact that he didn't like his friends and it was all a big status charade, that he and his parents never had a good relationship which made him feel lonely every time he was at his house, and that he might be the most popular guy in high school but that didn't mean it would get him out of it, high school I mean, because that's right, he keeps his below-average grades a secret from everyone. Well, maybe not everyone. There is, of course, Y/N L/N. Steve Harrington's girlfriend. When people talk about opposites attract, they might as well be talking about Steve and Y/N and their relationship. Y/N has always been a straight-A student and even if she won't admit it, she is pretty much a goody two shoes. You will never see her skipping class, except for that one time when it was Steve's birthday and she wanted to do something special and even then, she took her time to justify herself, it was his 18th birthday after all. Totally worth it, because believe it or not, Steve and Y/N are in for the long haul. They are pretty much attached to the hip at this point, and everyone knows they are Hawkins High class of '84 couple.
That brings us to the present. March 18th, 1984.
Y/N was sitting in her favorite coffee shop with her best friend, Nancy Wheeler. They were both drinking their not too hot, not too cold coffees. Nancy could see that Y/N was not fully present, she was most likely overthinking, she's aware that school for a senior can be hard in these couple of months; so close to graduating and not being able to get enough sleep for it.
“You shouldn't stay up all night stressing about college, you'll get in some place great. They'll give you tons of financial aid, and everything will be perfect” said Nancy trying to ease her friend's nerves that could be easily pointed out by how she was furrowing her eyebrows this whole time.
Y/N sighs looking down at her now empty coffee cup. “Yeah that's what I thought too…until yesterday.” you could tell something was really eating her up inside.
“What happened yesterday?”
“I had a meeting with the new college advisor.”
Y/N started doing that face she does when she's a little embarrassed, you know, the one where she gets her lips turning slightly up making her cheeks look even fuller. It was adorable really, not that she would ever think that though.
“So?” Nancy was waiting for Y/N to drop the bomb on her already.
While Y/N was having trouble addressing the issue until she finally said it. “I'm fourth.”
Now Nancy was trying to figure out what she meant by that. “Fourth? Four- Fourth in your class?” Nancy gasped with so much excitement that some heads turned to their table with confusion. “Y/N! That´s amazing!”
“Yeah…it's amazing…but Nancy, all the places that I thought I wanted to apply to, they're looking for people who are number four, and they're you know, concert violinists or they won the Westinghouse science prize, or they're legacies like Heather. I mean…maybe I shouldn't even bother, I--I'd probably just be wasting the application fees.”
“Come on, Y/N/N, your defeatist attitude has to go.” Nancy hated seeing her friend doubt herself like this. “What does Steve say?” she added.
Y/N furrowed her eyebrows even more, if that's even possible. “Steve is barely going to graduate, I can't exactly cry on his shoulder about my tragic lack of extracurricular activities. If I tell Steve how stressed I am, he's just going to think that I'm this pathetic, whiny crybaby, you know?”
To be clear, Y/N wasn't a snitch but Nancy happened to be one of the best math tutors around in school and she always found out what students needed help, that's when she saw Steve's name, and…well she pretty much got in on the secret.
Later that week
“Look, going to one of these schools could open opportunities you've always dreamed about, right?
“Yes.” said Y/N with no hesitation in her voice.
“So, your dreams are your dreams, Y/N. You can't apologize for them. Just talk to him. You'll probably find out they're his dreams, too.”
Steve and Y/N were studying at Steve's place. Y/N wanted to help her boyfriend with his schoolwork and be ready for anything in the process. Steve, on the other hand, was just happy he got to spend some extra time with his girl.
They have been studying for a little bit over an hour now, it's around 6 in the afternoon and Steve couldn't ditch the feeling that something was bothering her. He thought that in a couple of minutes she would be talking all about it but when she kept re-reading the same page of her English book report he realized she probably wasn't. Therefor, Steve knew he needed to know what was wrong and if he could possibly help. He always felt like he owed Y/N a lot, him always thinking that she deserves better or that she's too good for him happen to be one of his deepest concerns. Of course, she doesn't feel that way in the slightest but what can I say, they are both very stubborn people. While Steve was thinking about all of this for the third time this day, he didn't realize he was staring, which of course she noticed, that's when she finally had enough.
Y/N sighs. “I found out yesterday that I'm fourth. My class rank. I'm fourth.”
“If I tell you what's bothering me, will you promise not to laugh at me, or tell me I'm insane or insist that I should just get over myself?”
As Steve got out of his thoughts, he couldn't help but smile at her nervous tone. “I think I can probably do that, yeah,” he said with a warm and inviting voice.
Steve without a second thought to his previous promise, chuckles “That's your problem? That's not a problem. If anything, that's a reason to quit studying.”
“I don't even know why I bother. I knew you wouldn't understand,” said Y/N.
Steve caught the look of sadness in her eyes and said “Ok, I'm sorry. That was bad. Can we try that again? Yeah? But this time, you've got to cut out all that stuff about being number four, 'cause I know that can't possibly be the reason you're so bothered.”
Y/N rolls her eyes and sighs, now sitting next to Steve in his bed. “Well, no, It's…it's just that I always thought that if I did well in school, that these doors would open for me, you know, and--and maybe I was just being naive. Maybe I've just set these goals that are unrealistic, and you know, certain people get into certain places because of who their parents are, how--you're not even listening.”
“Uh, no, I was listening. Look, we should just all have your problems you know? You're sitting here as a girl with one of the brightest futures on the face of the planet talking to a guy who's not going to get into any school where they don't give him his own tools.”
Y/N looks confused and sighs. “Put your shoes on. Let's go out.”
Now it was Steve's turn to look confused. “Out? We can't go out.”
Y/N stands up looking for that baby blue top that she loves and always leaves at Steve's. “Yeah, we can.”
“You know, just when this conversation starts to get emotionally complicated you want to bail. Who’s the guy in this relationship?”
Y/N turns to him and with an unbothered look says “You are, and like the guy, you have a choice. You can either stay here and prove how insensitive you are, or we can go to Amy's un-birthday party.”
“Right…I'll get my shoes.” with that, Steve knew in his gut he was in for a long night.
---------------------------
Arriving at the party you could tell everyone was already pretty wasted. It was the first big party of the year after all.
Steve and Y/N enter the house and instantly guys start to greet Steve while the girls were whispering behind Y/N's back. That was something she will never get used to.
“We came for your immortal soul. That is if you got one.” Y/N mimicked his smile from earlier earning a very dramatic eye roll from Tommy.
Going to the kitchen the couple met with the voice of Tommy H, a grade-A asshole in Hawkins High and of course one of Steve's friends.
“Harrington. I knew you couldn't resist a party.” He says with that smug smile that you just want to wipe off his face. He then turns his head slightly to see Y/N, and let’s just say they don't get along. “I see you've brought the prim reaper.” He said with an annoyed look, they have hated each other since they can remember, and dating Steve definitely didn't change that.
Finally, Steve decided to cut in, “Actually I just want a drink.” he said with no emotion in his voice whatsoever.
Steve takes the cup away from her as fast as he can. “Oh, no, no, no. I don't think so. It is a proven fact, that you, madam, cannot hold your alcohol.”
“Mm-hmm. Here's one for you and for you.” Tommy directs the second drink at Y/N.
“Thanks.”
Y/N scoffs. “So let me get this straight, you can drink at parties, and I can't?” Oh oh, rocky territory.
“Yes, because as you so rightly pointed out, I am a guy, and if I'm going to get in trouble for being a guy, I think I should at least get to act like one every once in a while.”
At this point, Y/N looks at him with this fake agreement look which makes Steve self-conscious, that couldn't be a good sign. “You know, with your advance permission and approval. Of course, I wouldn't, you know, do it without asking first.”
 Later that night…
“That's fine.”
“That's fine?” Steve was waiting for the shoe to drop.
Y/N's face changes to a look of calmness and unbotherness. “Yeah. We'll both be guys tonight. Cheers.” And there it was. The shoe dropped.
As expected, Y/N didn't feel like being babysitted by Steve, wouldn't that be ironic? So, tonight she lost him while spreading in the crowd of people to find one of her friends. Leaving Steve to do some finding of his own.
Tommy H. was having fun that much they knew. “Excellent. I love this girl. It's like she's trying to lose.”
Y/N was pacing around trying to find Steve and give him a piece of her mind. Her drunk mind that is. Until of course her eyes went wide in surprise.
“Strip poker. I leave you alone for 2 seconds, and you end up playing strip poker?”
Shit. Steve thought. “Originally this was just poker-poker until I started kicking his ass. Then Tommy decided to change the stakes on me, but I'm finished, now, and, uh, we can just leave.”
Oh, this was too good for Y/N to leave behind. Mocking surprise, she says “Why leave? There's a half-naked chick in the room.”
Steve knew where this was going and he wasn't really looking forward to that. “It's just a game. Up until now, nobody's taken off anything other than socks.”
“So, it's all just good, old, clean fun?”
“Yeah, exactly. Just good, clean, American guy fun.” said Steve with a smile that thought would make Y/N leave the issue alone.
“You heard me, now, what does a girl have to take off in order to play this game?” Y/N took a chair and sat down while drinking her punch.
“Mm. Deal me in.”
“Excuse me?” by now everyone was just looking at the couple and their little moment. Hawkins High most popular couple having an argument at a party? Scandalous.
“Ok, that's enough”, Steve says with an unexpected clap to make clear he was being serious. “It's time for us to leave now 'cause you see, you're drunk, you're bordering on disorderly and you are definitely insane. So, get up. Let's go. Shall we? Finished? Stand up. Let's go.” he said in a sing like voice, hoping Y/N wouldn't cause more of a scene.
“And why would I do that?” said Y/N smirking at her losing patience boyfriend.
“You want me to stand up?” Oh, Y/N was enjoying this, he thought.
“Yes, I'd like for you to stand up now.” he said faking a smile.
“Because you are forcing me to make the ultimate guy maneuver.” And before she could give him a response to what he means by that, Steve carried her on his shoulder and starting walking to exit the party.
“Steve, uh, you can put me down now, Steve. I'm fine.”
----------------------
After a quiet ride full of inside thoughts from both of them, they finally arrived at Y/N's house. Steve got out of the car and went to the other door to help her very drunk girlfriend.
“All right, you.” said Steve waiting for Y/N to get out of the car while he opens the door for her.
“I can't walk, Steve.” said Y/N in almost a whisper like voice.
“Before, I had to drag you kicking and screaming, but now you want to be carried? no.”
“It's a woman's right to change her mind.” says Y/N with her head out of the car.
“Ah, but tonight you're one of the guys, remember? and guys walk. So come on, number four. Out you get, watch your head.”
That's when the Y/H/C girl tried to get out of the car with her boyfriend's help. “Uh...I don't really feel so good.”
Steve scoffed. “Well, guess what? you're going to feel even worse tomorrow morning. And you still won't be any closer to getting into the ivy-covered institution of your choice.” he said with a mocking smile that didn't actually mean any harm.
“Steve. I've been doing some thinking.” Yup. this was really happening.
“Yeah. Drunk thinking…”  that made Steve nervous to say the least.
“Maybe… maybe that's not what I really want. Maybe I just want to stay here. You know, I mean--I mean, look, it's--it´s really beautiful here and...and I could just--”
“Just what? Stay here and work as a waitress all your life? Come on. Forgive me if you're losing me here, Y/N/N, but to be perfectly honest, you haven't made the slightest bit of sense all night, even before you were drunk--”
“I wanna be with you, Steve. I wanna stay and be with you.” she said with a tone of sadness in her eyes. Sure, she wanted to leave Hawkins behind for good but the idea of losing Steve because of it scared the crap out of her.
Steve sighed. “Baby, if you wanna be with me, then staying here would be a really stupid idea, considering I don't plan to be here, I plan to be wherever you are.”
Y/N's sad frown turned into a very happy drunk smile. “Really?”
Steve couldn't help but smile himself. “Yes. Really. Not that you deserve to hear such things right now.”
Y/N sighed while they finally stopped leaning on Steve's car and started walking to her house. “I know, I know. It was a very stupid thing to get drunk.”
“Yes, it was. I mean let's face it here, Y/N/N. You are destined for academic glory, and your boyfriend is circling the drain, which is a problem. In fact, that is a very big problem, but you couldn't possibly have thought that you could solve all your problems in one night, with alcohol of all things.”
“No…” said Y/N with a shy voice.
Steve decided to keep going with his thoughts. “No. Because alcohol, you know, it has that effect on problems. It just never solved them, ever. And I would hate to think that I fell in love with a moron.”
Oh, that definitely caught Y/N's attention making her turn to face her boyfriend with that drunk happy smile that she gave him earlier.
“So, you're in love with me, huh?”
“Well, not currently, no. Right now, you're just some crazy drunk girl I got to get in that door without waking up her parents, but generally speaking…yes.”
Y/N laughed. “May I kiss you right now?”
“Yes, please.” said Steve with a wide smile.
“Mm-mmm-mmm! But I'm still not carrying you.” Steve murmured between kisses.
Y/N pulled back and whispered in his ear. “Please.” with the most adorable pouty face Steve had ever seen.
Y/N started giving him puppy eyes hoping that would convince him.
“You can give me the eyes, it's just not gonna work.”
“Nope.” Steve laughed.
He pulled away from the kiss. “Halfway, that's it, I swear. I'm not kidding. My back's killing me here.” That made Y/N grin uncontrollably.
She started kissing him again.
“Oh, come on, honestly, you don't-- Y/N, do you think I'm gonna fall for this? Y/N/N…”
“Well, I guess since we're up here...”
Steve ended up carrying Y/N all the way to her room after he found the spare key of course. Even though he tried to act tough, there's nothing he wouldn't do for that girl.

Summary: Steve opens up about being self conscious of his ‘new’ body
Word count: 0.8k
Warning: mention of scars
Request:  Steve Harrington x reader + prompt 3 ! (‘’I’m naked!’’ - ‘’Was that supposed to stop me from coming in?’’)
A/N: Seeing Steve’s back is breaking my heart. This is also not how I had planned this fic to go, but I got sidetracked - as always
Tumblr media
-
‘’I’m changing! I’m naked!’’ Steve screeched in a panic when you almost walked in on him changing.
A little laugh left your lips. ‘’Was that supposed to stop me from coming in?’’ You let go of the doorknob, and stopped, respecting his request for privacy.
Being best friends and neighbors for ten years, you and Steve were past the shyness of changing in front of each other - with underwear on. You had gone swimming together in your underwear way too often to be shy around each other.
