i’m so tired of the old “they’re a bad person so have no feelings” shtick. abusers get up every day and do normal human things just like you. they don’t wake up and go “ohoho how can i be horrible to as many people as possible today” they wake up and go “should i have eggs and bacon or just a bowl of cereal.” they think “i should take out the trash.” they think “my favorite show is on tonight at 9pm, i should set up a reminder so i don’t miss it.” they think “man, i haven’t called my mom in a while, i should do that.”

the most important thing we always need to remember is that whoever hurt us is also human. and no, it’s not for forgiveness or rationalizing the abuse. it’s so that we don’t forget that abusive people act exactly like everyone else most of the time. it’s so that we don’t assume our friends could never be abusers just because we never see that side of them. it’s so that we don’t ignore the red flags purely because of the presence of the green ones. “bad people” are not a different species, and the more you think that way, the more you are going to get hurt.

I am, like, a long running proponent of the "eat something and you'll feel better" crowd and am often one of the first people to suggest "maybe it's time for a snack before I get whipped into a frenzy" but I really do resent how instantaneous it is. like it'll feel like I'm having my worst day in months and then I'll start eating and literally before I even finish I'm like oh yeah the world is beautiful

the idea of public restrooms as "women's spaces" continues to confound me. you know who I hope is in a public bathroom when I go in?? no one. I would prefer no one else be in the bathroom. and if someone else is in the bathroom I am going to ignore them as much as possible. I did not go into the bathroom to connect with other women. I went into the bathroom to piss and/or shit. it's a toilet's space, not a women's space. shut the fuck up and let trans people piss and shit in peace. let's all continue to avoid eye contact with each other and any and all interaction in the toilet's space.

mom was describing a tattoo a girl once took her to a back bedroom to show her, which was a fishing pole low on her pelvis with a line and hook that descended into her bush where a small clownfish hid amongst the hair. and that’s just. that’s a goal. and the ultimate freedom from obligation, like “gah I would shave but it would ruin my very good joke, what are you gonna do, I gotta make sure there’s foliage for my little clownfish to hide in”

then mom finished telling me this and looked off for a moment. “my god,” she said. “she was flirting with me. fuck. goddamn it.” 

#this is all really sweet but the mom's realization after the fact is what really got me
