Over analyzing the Henry x Valter meadow scene because it’s been living in my head rent free

Okay, it seems like I’m not the only one obsessing over the scene in the final episode where Henry lies drunk on a field and Valter (or Walter) picks him up. Walty shippers interpret this as a confirmation of their relationship, while other see this as a symbol of Wille’s freedom. Let’s take a deep dive into both analysis!

By this time we know that Young Royals almost always have deeper intentions with the way things are written and directed. Close ups, props and the order in which the scenes are put are planned out to perfection and rarely a coincidence. This scene came immediately after the Stedrika scene, indicating that Henry and Valter, just like Stella and Fredrika, might have had their own friends-to lovers-story.

The scene is also parallel to Wilmon’s football field scene in season one. In both scenes, one of the boys lays barely conscious in the grass and gets picked by someone who is close to them. For Wille, it’s Simon. For Henry, it’s Valter.

This might be a hint that Walty had their own Wilmon moment and that something happened between the them romanticly.

Another part of the fandom believes this was not a Walty confirmation, but instead an confirmation of Wille’s freedom. Throughout the series, Henry has always interrupted Wille during the most inappropriate moments.

Henry has been a reminder to both Wille as well as the audience that no matter what Wille did, he would always have eyes on him. He would always have a responsibility he couldn’t just give up. Henry’s passing out could be an indication that he’s not needed anymore, because Wille is now free. Free from the responsibility, free from everyone’s eyes, free from the burden.

The story telling in Young Royals has always been limited to the perspective of five characters: Wille, Simon, Felice, Sara and August. Even if we followed the storyline of other characters, like Stella and Fredrika, it was always told through the perspectives of the main five. This is one of the few scenes, if not the only one, that doesn’t do so. Maybe the writers/directors wants the audience to know what the other characters don’t know yet, which is that Wille is about to give up the throne.

What do you think the meadow scene meant? Walty confirmation or Wille’s freedom confirmation? Why wasn’t it filmed through any of the main five’s perspectives? Feel free to share your own thoughts and opinions!

Barty in a British High School headcanons

He inappropriately moans during the minute silence

He's in detention all the time and being told about his "wasted potential" but still manages to do good in his exams

He's in isolation for a week of every month

He's stabbed a kid with a maths compass

He's definitely been caught wanking in the toilets before he's with Evan and blowing Evan in the toilets when they're together

He's asked the teachers about smegma

He asks the worst questions in sex ed that he knows the answer to but he wants the teacher to say "no you can't get a girl pregnant from being in the swimming pool at the same time"

There was a guy in my school who gave a girl one direction condoms for Secret Santa at Christmas, that's Barty behaviour

He throws wet toilet roll at the ceiling in the bathrooms so it sticks and dries up there just as an inconvenience for the caretaker

He calls all the teachers by their first names and acts like they're besties when they all hate him (and they all hate him)

Sunday snippet: unnamed S3 Walty fic

I've never done Sunday snippets before, but I'm quite excited about the Walty fic that I've been working on lately. It will be a short S3-compliant multichap set around their appearances in the season, and I hope to get the first chapter finished and posted relatively soon.

So, here's a silly little snippet from Chapter 1 (Talludden) that doesn't give away anything about the plot but does give you an idea of their dynamic before something disrupts it and kicks off the story.

With the decoy finished, Walter lay back down, now in the middle spot. Henry happily got into his own sleeping bag as well – only to realise he was still wearing the jacket that would get way too hot with two or potentially three people’s heat inside the tent. He couldn’t be bothered to sit back up anymore, so he decided to remove it lying down. To his frustration and his best friend’s amusement, that took a lot more grunting and wriggling than anticipated.

“What are you even doing?” Walter laughed on the other side of the thick fleece that currently filled Henry’s field of vision and tied his arms. “Why don’t you just sit up?”

“Because this – ugh, for fuck’s sake – this is less effort.”

“Sure looks that way.”

Henry finally managed to yank himself free with a triumphant yelp. Walter had the nerve to laugh again, for which Henry retaliated by flailing the jacket in his face. The urge to drop it on his head when he parried with his arm was damn near irresistible – but the escalation would only sidetrack them further, and Henry was already bursting to tell the story. He simply tossed the jacket in the corner, next to the bundle of yellow fairy lights that they had not bothered to put up.

“Okay, so,” Henry said, settling on his side with one hand under his pillow. “Where were we?”

“You were about to tell me you killed Alexander and dumped him in the lake.”

Well, maybe the story could wait just a moment longer. Walter’s arch smile was virtually begging for a jokey response, and Henry was not about to leave him hanging.

Like just imagine- each time harry gets in trouble, there's two howlers sent to him. One from Lily which yells at him, telling him he's grounded when he gets back home, with several breaks in her sentences to yell over her shoulder "MARY DON'T YOU DARE LAUGH THIS IS NOT FUNNY" and "WHAT DO U MEAN HE GETS THIS FROM ME??" and "YES I PLAYED SOME PRANKS WITH THE BOYS AND SOME WITH MARLENE BUT THAT'S BESIDES THE POINT"

And then one from mary, the words she's saying hardly making sense between her laughter as she pretends to be angry at harry and ends up rambling abt the pranks lily used to do (often getting interrupted by lily telling her to stop ratting her out. "Your mother is telling me to stop taddling on her, I do hope that remus or Minnie hears someone of this" "also don't be causing any problems for Minnie, harry." "Anyways dear, hope ur doing well, I expect that u have detention due to what u just did but take care!"
