I never wanted Tegan to not get what I was gonna get. It's something that goes very, very much back to a very deep childhood place. She was the most important person to me, and probably at some point developmentally, I couldn't even detach she was something separate from me.

Quincest song analysis

Writing fanfiction is really hard, you guys, I don’t think I can do it. I’d love to but ugh, it’s just not in me.

But at least I can give you some silly song analyses?

‘northshore’ “something so sick about this, my misery’s so addictive” being with sara is “sick” and it’s hard and it can make her miserable, but she can’t stop, she’s addicted. “don’t love me, don’t love me” sara makes it hard for her to stay away because she loves tegan back.

‘i hear noises’ is about being together but being scared of others finding out. “i am disappointed by the feeling of waking up next to you” disappointed in herself for liking it, the feeling of waking up beside her sister feeling so good. “you call me up and let me know that my sick guilt is so unwelcome” 

‘and darling’ oh geez what if the thing that breaks her heart is just. the fact that it’s her sister. it breaks her heart that the person she’s in love with is her sister. and they are always hurting each other because they know each other so well, they fight, they break each other’s hearts, but also. also she break’s tegan’s heart in the good way. in the “I love you so much it makes my heart hurt” way.

‘arrow’ is sara saying would you fight for her love. “take a straight and narrow, critical look at me” know what you’re getting into, know who and what sara is. “if you’re thinking anything/endlessly…” doesn’t matter if you’re thinking of a future together, or thinking about something right now, or thinking at all - sara will take whatever she can get from tegan. “take my aim, so you feel me coming close” she’s made her intentions clear. “calm and tender terminal kind of care” the love between them so good but ‘terminal’ in that it’s killing them with how hard and complicated it is. “would you touch me, cling and wage an intimate fight for me” would you fight for our love.

‘so jealous’ is about sara starting to date emy and breaking it off with tegan. “i don’t wanna be part of the problem” giving in to her feelings for tegan makes her part of the problem; she’s trying to cut herself off from it. “then there’s you, telling me i can’t. then there’s you, you’re screaming say something” oh geez tegan wants her back so badly “i want the ocean right now” the ocean = tegan. “you’re so jealous, i can’t even work” working together becomes hard because they fight all the time, angry feelings like jealousy needing an out. “there i am in the morning, i don’t like what i see” either: seeing herself in the mirror, not liking who she is. or: waking up in the morning and her room not having tegan in it, she doesn’t like not seeing tegan there. “i don’t know how it’s become such a problem” how did it ever get this far? “do you see my problem if i never explain it” can people tell that something’s wrong? they have to hide it, hide their problems, because no one can know. “then there’s you, asking me how long, say something, it’s taken me so long” how much longer will sara pretend that she doesn’t need tegan? how long will they deny their feelings?
