ARTISTRY — ♡
Tumblr media
anon asked → Hello! Could I request Cozmez with a reader who’s a fairly popular music artist in a genre that isn’t hiphop?
a/n - thanks for the request! i went with two different routes for both of them, if you don’t mind :)
Tumblr media
kanata yatonokami
it’s kind of a miracle he found your music in the first place. after all, he gravitates more towards hip-hop, but he puts two and two together when he sees a familiar name in the record store
curiosity gets the better of him and he buys it. he can’t tell if it’s him being biased because it’s you, but he likes it. a lot. he won’t tell you, but he keeps the record safely stored away
it takes a few weeks of secretly listening (with nayuta) for him to actually bring up the topic. he seems a bit flustered when he tells you he likes your music, and even more so when you look really happy about it
since then, he follows your work very closely (he’ll deny it, though). even though it’s not the same genre, he does take comfort in listening to your music. he likes hearing something that you made, your voice matching the melody of the music you produced
one of these days you’ll entertain the idea of featuring him in a song. it might take a while, and take a lot of convincing, but he does enjoy the idea of making something together with you
nayuta yatonokami
you definitely piqued his interest the second you told him. he’s actually a little offended you didn’t tell him sooner, but that quickly goes away once he asks to hear it
he takes listening to your music very seriously. he listens to it with his full attention, like he wants to remember every single note. it makes you a little nervous, but he’s smiling
he tends to throw out little compliments here and there, when you least expect it. one day you’ll be hanging out at home, and you’ll suddenly get a text that says “this song was good”
he likes that he has another person to relate to. sometimes you’ll have conversations about the making process itself, and your thoughts that go into each other’s songs. he finds that those conversations inspire and motivate him more
of course, he shows kanata your music, too. he passes along kanata’s “compliments” (meaning: he didn’t hate it)
he’s quicker to work on something with you than his brother. he already likes your music and knows how dedicated you are to it, so he takes the chance to make something with you. he admires how diligently you work on your songs, and he doesn’t mind the idea of exploring something new with you

Hello! Can I request single rose with nayuta yatonokami?
Nayuta Yatonokami:
Single Rose - being still in love after the relationship ends.
“Are you there?”
Nayuta’s voice is muffled but you hear him clear enough, unable to find the courage to open the door and let him in. Your hands had just stopped shaking at the revelation he was alive and well, but to see him in the flesh mere days after? It was a shock to your system. It would be like staring into the sun, you couldn’t look directly at him, not right now. You needed the door as a buffer and Nayuta hadn’t questioned it, simply asking if the conversation could continue.
There’s somewhat of an explanation, not one that leaves you feel any better but it was good to know what happened. That despite how it affected him he still chose to share it, it must mean that he still regarded you with some level of respect. The burning hateful words he had said before that fateful day, the searing ‘I’ve never hated anyone more’ that was spit at your feet in utter disrespect to your entire relationship was still engraved deeply in your brain.
You hadn’t responded in a long time, having allowed him to get out all that he needed to.
“…Are you still there?”
“I am,” You leaned your head against the door, hand resting on top of the knob, “I’m still here.”
“Okay.”
There’s a silence that lasted long enough you think he may have left but checking the shadow under the door, it seemed he had actually seated himself right in front of your door. He would probably look very interesting if any of your neighbors that lived on your floor came home in the middle of this, but then again, some of them knew about the traumatic end to your relationship. The walls were thin and the nightmares were loud, louder than any sound that existed in the world as you knew it.
“I shouldn’t have let you go.”
“…Yeah?” Your tone wasn’t flat, you weren’t just letting what he said go in one ear and out the other. You were giving him the chance to continue.
“I need you by my side,” Nayuta said firmly, no room for question; at least, not when it came to his own feelings. He had thought long and hard about what it meant to reignite the spark, to admit that he had spat out a hateful lie because he didn’t want you to miss him if the worst came to be. He regretted it every day you were apart, every day he had to live knowing you weren’t waiting for him to come home because you thought he never would.
Now all he needed was your response.
And he’d wait outside your door, day and night, until you gave him one.

So I’ve been trying to get into a new anime and had to force myself to go through the first three episodes because the protagonist did not sit well with me. Nothing bad about him, he’s just not the kind of intelligent bastard character I prefer.
And that got me thinking. I’ve been obsessed with Luffy for two years now. He’s my favorite One Piece character. He’s one of my favorite characters in all media, period. I adore him.
But, and I think we can all agree, he is very much not the sharpest crayon in the box.
Usually, I would hate this type of character. In fact, it was one of the reasons it took me so long to watch One Piece – I was one hundred percent sure Luffy would bore me. I saw the fandom joking around about his idiocy, and didn’t really look more into it before deciding that 900+ episodes is too long of an investment when I knew the main character is exactly the kind of protagonist I hate. The fact that I actually started One Piece was a total fluke, and I did it despite everything I saw and read about Luffy.
Here’s the thing. I still hate the stock shōnen characters. But I love Luffy, and I think that the main difference here is that Luffy is, before anything else, competent.
He is not a stupidly naive, bleeding-heart hero trying to see the best in everybody and having no actual connection to the real world. He does not bumble around, being tossed around by forces bigger than him and only resolving an impossible situation thanks to luck or being able to throw a bigger punch (though the punching bit does play a significant part). Luffy is always the instigator, the one in charge of the plot, the one driving the whole thing forward – the plot does not happen to Luffy, Luffy happens to the plot.
He’s not the smartest. Often, he’s not the strongest even. But when something needs to be done, when someone needs to step up and resolve the problem, he knows what to do. And he does not hesitate to do it, often in the most surprising of ways. He is a very simple thinker, but that simple thinking lets him see a clear line from a problem to a solution, without taking any detours a more intelligent character might have taken. It’s not just about who punches the strongest. It’s about pulling the right emotional lever (Robin in Enies Lobby), or finding a hidden weakness (Crocodile), or even about concocting the most outrageous solution that would resolve the situation immediately (destroying the Baratie, anyone?)
Also, he might not be the cleverest person around, but his insane emotional intelligence ensures that he does not have to be. He has friends for that. He surrounds himself with people who are smart and strong and just as competent as he is. His nakama do what he cannot, and so even this personal drawback is eliminated.
Luffy is just straight-up competent, in every way and situation possible. He does what needs to be done, always and without hesitation. And he does it well.
In his own way, he is just as effective as my personal favorite intelligent bastard characters. He’s just so much simpler about it.

also, do yall rmb that time when connor ask hank about heavy metal music??
that conversation is so cringe lol 💀 connor is rlly trying too hard 😂 its so fake that i'm getting secondhand embarrassment through the screen
Before you read: This post has been edited. Please keep in mind that this was not meant to be taken to heart, but was quickly thrown together to summarize my thoughts. Many of my friends have rebloged this post with very interesting commentary, and I expand on my points in a better way in further reblogs. Please check those out before you interact, because I feel this post alone does not fully represent how I feel about the matter. Every interpretation of Connor is valid, and this post was not meant to belittle anybody for feeling differently than I.
Everything below is as it was originally posted, aside from a few particularly harsh statements <3
I find it incredibly ironic that a majority of the fan base looked at Connor and labeled him soft, innocent, pure, and harmless, when the whole point of his character is that that's what Cyberlife designed him to be. He even says it to Hank in The Nest.
"Cyberlife androids are designed to work harmoniously with humans. Both my appearance, and voice, were specifically designed to facilitate my integration."
The whole point of his story is to show that he is not a pure and good person. Us, as the player, should know better than anyone that Connor is not harmless or soft. Connor is constantly putting up a facade because that's what Cyberlife needs from him. He is designed to integrate with humans - and Hank - to achieve the best results in the investigation.
A fan favorite moment is during Waiting for Hank when you get to snoop around Hank's belongings and ask him invasive questions in order to gain information about him for more amicable relations. It is not Connor taking a genuine interest in Hank.
Then there's The Nest, where Connor once again tries to bond with Hank. He tries to forge a relationship because it is what Amanda wants, and what Cyberlife needs for maximum efficiency in Connor's hunt.
There's also the moment Connor can snoop around Hank's home to find out incredibly person and intimate details about his past. Also considered a fan favorite moment.
These moments:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Are not real. They are not Connor being a pure cinnamon role. It is Connor putting on an act to get the best results. It's a concept introduced in the very first chapter of the game. Connor does not care about Daniel. He barely blinks at his death. But the whole negotiation, it is Connor's goal to pretend he gives a shit. Connor does this with every single victim.
This is not Connor feeling genuine empathy for these people:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is him finding the best way to accomplish his mission without scaring off a potential suspect or witness
So many moments the fandom sites as Connor being a Good Boi TM is just him acting. The same act that he puts on to convince his victims and allies alike that he is a Good Boi. But he's not.
This:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is Connor. At least at the beginning. He is cold. He is ruthless. He simply does not care. The only moment of genuine joy he shows pre deviancy is when he is praised by Amanda for his efficiency in capturing a subject.
Tumblr media
And that's the point. He starts off the game a terrible person who does not care for the lives of those around him because he's been taught that they dont matter. He only learns to become a good person through growing genuinely empathetic towards the people he is killing. That's why The Bridge is so important.
Connor spends so long asking questions. Asking Hank personal questions so he can adapt better to his personality. Connor asking questions so he can piece together the puzzle of deviancy. At the bridge, Hank finally stops Connor in his tracks and asks him the questions. Makes him stop and think about something besides his investigation for once. Why didn't you shoot, Connor?
It's after The Bridge that Connor finally starts to analyze himself and his actions too.
So, no. Connor is not a pure cinnamon role. He's a manipulative murderer who can only redeem himself by not pretending to be innocent anymore. For Connor to really become a good person, he has to go against everything that makes him a "cinnamon role" because that facade was made by Cyberlife.

well, you opened my eyes 👀 i do agree with the part that connor is programmed to put up the good boi facade for hank or anyone he had to work with. all the choices-given to the player- to question and learn about the people around him are probably just part of his job.
not here to start anything. just wanna put this down bc i love this game very much. everything written here is just my own interpretation through my gaming experience and watching other people's gameplay
in my opinion (and my own playthrough), i feel like his deviancy starts at the point when hank stops him from chasing kara on the highway (and i picked not to chase)
choosing 'not to chase' to connor (and to me) is just because he's obeying orders given by hank, his superior. which didn't really make sense because connor's main priority is still about investigating and capturing deviants. maintaining good relationship with his partner comes second.
if he chases kara, he can capture her alive and gain information. so when i decided not to chase, i imagine connor believed in hank (that he claimed they won't make it til the other end) and connor would justify to himself that he could still probe kara's memory if she's damaged. (but i let them lived 😂)
during lunch break, there goes the option to ask about the highway incident.
i imagine that option was given because connor may be frustrated (or whatever the pre-deviancy android equivalent) about letting kara escape and he now thinks hank is interrupting him from accomplishing his mission.
"cause you could've died" doesn't make any sense to connor because he knows he doesn't die. his body can be replaced easily. well, maybe hank doesn't know that. but prioritising his well being over progress is not part of his program. it's a human thing. it's almost like hank is treating him like a real human.
also, i assume the "filling up paperwork for damaged connor" is bullshit (cause he come back every single time he died just like that 🧍🏻‍♂️and hank is like 😦)
i don't know if hank really needs to fill out paperwork, but i think connor isn't dumb enough to believe his partner's not-so-convincing cover up lie.
so connor realised, for the first time, someone doesn't view him as an object, even more than connor himself. he didn't understand why hank thought of him that way and it's because he didn't understand, connor finds it hard to ignore.
while he may still convince himself he just doesn't want hank to get in his way, connor starts to put himself and his own safety into consideration.
for the first time, connor starts to think for himself.

meanwhile, my dad can't even figure out the price of an item after a 75% discount
Heres the thing you gotta understand about statistics.
“Increases your chances by 80%” does not mean “there is now an 80% chance”.
If your chances were previously 10%, your chances are now 18%, not 90%.
if your chances were roughly 1%, they’re now just slightly less than 2%.
thats how that works.
