apologies for not updating this blog too much or keeping up with replies and notes and all that. since roughly december ive been struggling with horrible mental health issues that ive only very recently come to identify as ptsd. so. yeah. honestly the bigger reason ive been uninterested in maintaining this blog is actually because im not sure im aromantic anymore? either way im not really interested in labeling what i have going on there. i have a girlfriend now who i love very dearly and since im in a relationship the utility of labeling my romantic orientation isnt really there anymore. whatevers going on with my romantic orientation doesnt really matter to me because i have my girlfriend and im not even remotely interested in getting any more partners so.. i dont see the use in labels for that anymore.

thank you to everyone who supported me while i firmly identified as aromantic. this blog and the larger aro community on here were a major help and comfort during a very confusing time in my life. maybe i'll return here one day for whatever reason, but for now this blog is gonna lay dormant.

i hate seeing shit like "well you can just marry for tax benefits" or "marriage can be loveless" in response to aromantics speaking about how being single is disincentivized in USAmerican culture (i wont speak for other places as idk much about that)

perhaps the issue I'm complaining about is that its hardly a choice right now but to eventually marry 👍 i do not want to marry. i do not want to be in a legally recognized relationship with ANYONE. i want to have an actual fucking choice in the matter.

it also actually doesn't matter if I change my mind in the future. I Deserve To Have A Choice. Everyone does.

the "choices" we have these days are to struggle financially and/or not have children (among plenty of other things) OR to marry

It's 2024 why are people still putting asexual posts that never mention aromanticism in the aromantic tag

@stupidcupid06 a blog primarily known for posting polls asking for peoples opinions on things posted a poll accompanied by a screenshot of a text conversation between a man and a woman. the man says hes not prepared for commitment but he liked spending time with the woman and liked having sex with her so he asks if she would be interested in an exclusive friends with benefits relationship. the poll asked viewers how they felt about it, with options like "modern romance" and whether or not they would say yes in that situation. it divided a lot of people. some people pointed out that theres nothing inherently wrong or controlling about exclusive fwbs for a number of reasons, he couldve been concerned about stds/stis, some people suggested he couldve been aro or that they related to him because they were aro and would enjoy a relationship like that. people jumped on the opportunity to be aphobic in response, and the notes of that post devolved into queer discourse, causing the op of the poll to make one simply asking "are cishet aro men lgbt". this is stoked the flamed even more. people kept showing their arophobic and sex negative, slut-shamey opinions out in the open.

op of that poll would later reveal that there was more context to the original screenshot that proved the man was a bad dude. almost nobody who saw the initial poll had that information, because the op deliberately chose not to include it in the beginning. still, this emboldened people to claim that the aros and aro allies defending themselves against aphobia were actually defending an abuser anf that they were misogynists for doing so.

its mostly died down by now, from what i can tell, but it was a shitstorm when it was still happening. bad time all around!

yes, all aspec people face aphobia. but i think it's very important to remember that this whole new wave started with specifically arophobia. do not forget that. do not make this exclusively an ace issue, because it's not and it never was. do not forget the aroallos. we already face so much erasure even within the aspec community– we need to use this opportunity to uplift aspecs, yes, but especially aroallos. do not forget us. do not exclude us.

To try to explain what the main differences are meant to be between just being comfortable telling, and avoiding it unless it comes up- The first one is like, you would mention it in casual conversation with little to no prompting. If someone brought up a topic related to romance or romantic attraction, would you feel okay dropping that you're aro? Could you start talking about it as casually as many non-aros talk about their experiences?

"Unless it comes up" is more if you'd usually avoid saying you're aro unless you're specifically asked what your identity is or something like that. Not necessarily afraid to tell people, maybe you just don't feel like having to explain it every time.
