"How'd you learn to do that?" He was, of course, talking about the little leaf flute that Kazuha sometimes played during moments of rest. "I can't say that I really know how to play any instrument - let alone a leaf, haha!"

" Ah, this? " He had just finished a short melody before the inquiry, lowering the leaf from his lips to twirl it between his fingertips thoughtfully. His eyes drift to the Traveler, letting the wind carry the leaf from his grip into the expanse before them, then back to the scenery.

" My late friend taught me, when I asked. He would play while we were traveling, sometimes. " It is said lightly, but his faraway gaze and smile bespeak his melancholy. He blinks, and it is gone, as he seems to shake away the memories, facing Aether again.

" Would you like to learn? " he asks, still smiling softly. " It isn't too hard, though it takes practice. You just need the right leaf, and a little patience. "

"Hey Kazuhaaa" The pyrotechnician practically sang his name as she approached. "I made you an extra special firework .... I'll set it off when the Crux starts sailing so ... PLEASEEE keep an eye out for it" an index finger then raised to tap him on the nose. "You'll know it when you see it"

" Oh, Yoimiya, " he greets, brightening with the surprise of running into an old friend. " It's good to see you again. "

He hadn't expected to see her on his way back from a shipment run, but it was always a pleasure to chat. He tilts his head as she relays the details of her gift to him, offering a mystified blink as she boops his nose.

" Ah... I appreciate the gesture. I'll be sure to watch the skies for it. " His face softens, a fond curl to his lips as he smiles. " … Thank you. Really. " He dips his head in a half bow, letting his bangs cover the expression. A gift... Though ephemeral in all but his memories, it is perhaps more appreciated that way. He’s sure, whatever type of firework it may be, he will remember it. He meets her eyes once more, a faint smile still lingering.

" Well then, I'd best be off. Until we meet again, try not to be too reckless. " It was likely hypocritical of him to say such a thing, but it was worth mentioning all the same. Inazuma was hardly safe these days, even without being a vision holder and assisting the rebellion.

With a little wave and those parting words, he’s off to the Alcor once more.

Staying too long isn't an option, the steady thrum of mixed curiosity and dread always propelling you forward. You've burnt all your bridges, leaving a trail of shattered connections every time you leave. But still you can't stay, can't even sit still. You tire of life as it happens, wishing you could quit your job and just become something else - anything at all. You've forgotten how to make a place into a home, feeling content only in novelty, at home only on the road.

{ Each crack of lightning, each roll of thunder, sings a song of old through Scaramouche’s bones. A melody he has loathed and craved like all the memories of a bygone era. He watches the storm with scrutiny, like he means to seek out something hidden in its fury, as if keeping a vigilant eye were the only thing to settle the score that nips at his heels with every step.

He is quiet and watchful, the veil of his hat flowing in the wind and tassles jingling ever so softly.

“And yet, the heart is what humanity treasures most in the end.” He says, a flat amusement, or perhaps even disdain in his tone. A low tremor. “That’s the most despicable thing about people. The Gods created a world to kill them and yet, even in the face of adversity some of them find a way to smile.” Scaramouche talks about them as an ‘other’, knowing full well that he’ll never be a part of them.

However, it doesn’t escape his notice that… “You didn’t answer me.” He looks back over his shoulder, that dagger-like gaze honed in on the other wanderer. Yet, he does not press further. “Don’t start conversations you aren’t prepared to contribute anything meaningful to.” }

“ Is that such a bad thing? ” He wonders. “ I believe the strongest people are those who can suffer and still carry on with a smile in spite of it all. ” It is the strength of those people that Kazuha often borrows himself, when he feels lost, when he forgets his purpose. Sometimes all it takes is holding that empty Vision in his hand.

If one's heart is empty, all under heaven is empty. But if one's heart is pure, all under heaven is pure.

“ Besides, do the Gods not also allow us to fight back? It seems we think differently on the subject, ” he muses. Kazuha holds little fondness in his heart for Her Excellency, but he is curious about the others--especially the Anemo archon, though he is certainly biased in that aspect. For what reason are some humans granted Visions while others are not? Is it merely the strength of ambition? Perhaps there is no answer at all, and it is just the whim of Gods. But Kazuha is curious, all the same.

At the last statement, he snorts softly. “ Perhaps I didn’t. And yet you were the one who assumed I was speaking about one of us with my statement, “ he quips, amused by the accusation. His fellow traveler was quite snippy, but he was frank, something Kazuha could respect. And yet they have not even done introductions. Hm.

“ I suppose I should have started the conversation by asking your name. You may call me Kazuha, ” he offers, a ghost of a smile still lingering upon his face.

{ “And what would you know about my heart?” The Harbinger asks, eyes flicking over to the wanderer with a sharp, calculative gaze. Rain pours down in sheets outside of the cave they’ve mutually decided to share for the time being. It had been a contemplative silence at first, the both of them minding their own business before one of them finally spoke.

Scaramouche stands closer to the cave entrance, seemingly ready to leave at a moment’s notice once the rain stops. The fire between the two of them crackles and bursts with the occasional burp of embers. “Unless you’re talking about your own. Then in which case, you ought to tell me, then, ronin, what burdens you could possibly be carrying.”

He had of course seen the Anemo vision upon the other’s shoulders. While it was obvious that the man had nothing more than the blade at his side and the clothes on his back, he didn’t seem in the slightest perturbed by it. There was a relaxed aura about him that Scaramouche wasn’t sure whether to be wary of or not.

But the wind was hard to read when it blew every which way it pleased. The only thing he could do is stay on his guard for now. }

“Ah, my apologies. I was simply musing aloud,” he replies with a cryptic smile, casting his gaze from the falling rain to his fellow squatter.

While the other man seems impatient to leave, Kazuha has already found a comfortable place to settle by the fire. The storm wouldn’t pass for a while yet; there was no point to standing around. He would tell him as much, but he has a feeling the other traveler will decide for himself soon enough, and may simply continue standing out of stubbornness if Kazuha offers his input on the matter. That’s the impression he gets, in any case.

The downpour, when he was not caught suffering in it, had a way of inspiring poetic and ponderings such as the one that had escaped his lips. Lightning, rain, a storm--it all had its ways of reminding him of Inazuma.

The continuation of the other’s statement, though derisive, begs a rather personal question to ask a stranger; but then, Kazuha sort of invited it himself, he admits, though it hadn’t been his intention.

“It was more of a general statement, I suppose--is a burdened heart so uncommon? I think it is a rather common ailment, no matter where one hails from or what they do.” The remark is said evenly, calmly, as he watches the flames eat away at its kindling. He hopes it does not burn out too quickly.

"I don't do second chances." (Arkham Meme)

Kazuha blinks curiously at the statement from where he is lounging against the trunk of an old fir, deceivingly languid. The speaker is a fellow traveler, one who happened to be heading the same way… who smells of ozone though he lacks a visible vision—perhaps even a hint of mist grass, if his nose does not deceive him—and dresses like one from Inazuma, though Kazuha can’t say he remembers one with such a distinct look in his years there. He can not help but let his inquisitive nature get the better of him. While Kazuha is aware there is likely more to his temporary companion than a mere wanderer, he is content to observe and take him at his word for now.

And wariness aside, Kazuha rather likes having someone to travel and chat with, transient though they always were.

Though he isn’t sure how it came up as they stop for a moment’s respite, making idle conversation and rather one-sided poetic on Kazuha’s part, the other man replies with a conviction that quickly shuts down the topic. He folds his arms in his sleeves, humming thoughtfully, though his eyes never leave the stranger across from him.

“ … Perhaps not. I would not try to change your mind, ” he replies, soft in the silence disturbed only by the wind. His thoughts are somewhat dissimilar, on the topic of second chances—after all, chances don’t necessarily equate forgiveness, as he sees it. But he can see the logic in the differing opinion. “ It is rational to keep one’s heart close, after all. ”

Therefore, he lets the topic breeze by like the chill in the air, and in the resulting quiet, he rises to his feet.

“ Well, dusk is falling, and the wind promises rain. Shall we find shelter for the night? ”

Skinwalker: "Yee naaldlooshii" - 'it goes on all fours'.

For some, the Skinwalker is very real and very lethal. Even the mere utterance of its name is fated to bring a curse upon you if not the being itself. A skinwalker was once a human, a human who succumbed to the tempting promise of power that only the darkest of arts can bring. As with all magic, it comes at a cost. The sacrifice of someone in their family.

Skinwalkers prowl the woods at night, taking the form of an animal to inflict pain and suffering on others. It has the ability to transform into anything... or anyone by skinning them alive and traipsing around in their skin... like some sort of sick costume.

For you, change is constant and inevitable. It is in the air you breath, the people you love, and the life you live. However, unlike everyone else, you don't fight against it. You've never seen the point. It seemed futile to oppose a constant like change. This attitude had made you into a very accepting and open-minded individual. Your care-free attitude has attracted the attention of this malevolent spirit. Maybe this Skinwalker wishes to take you on as a pupil, or perhaps something about you just draws it towards you. It will do what it can to protect you if only to figure out what it is about you that causes these feelings. Just be wary of those in your life who encourage change, for one day, you might look back on yourself

what kind of herb are you?

Cumin

You see yourself so clearly that you can see the gaping hole inside you where you lost a piece long ago. It's there and it's ragged and painful and bleeding and you don't know how no one else can see it when it takes up so much of your awareness. You run from it, fight it, try to find it but nothing bandages up that hungry mawing void inside yourself and when you're tired, uninspired, you swear it grows and grows.

You promise yourself you want to be alone, promise yourself that you want to be different, want to be special, love having this hole inside you and point it out in words or song or jokes and stories and take pride in that pain, in your uniqueness in this world of grays and storm clouds. You are 5 am rain on asphalt roads and sputtering street lamps.

You are petrichor musings and messy guitar chords and a thousand contradictions wrapped inside a quiet cry, an evening of coffee and jittering hands and a promise that you're okay or that you're fine until you're falling apart in someone's arms or messages and pretend you're alright in the morning. You taste so strongly but sometimes you wonder if all you are is ash.
