idk i'm a little into the idea of avian whumpees...
whumpees of exotic bird breeds, coveted for their beautiful wings and unique coloring. kept in cages, put on display, never getting to enjoy the freedoms of the outside world beyond their owner's home.
watching their friends and family get taken by poachers, forced to live with the knowledge that they will never be safe, simply because they look pretty. maybe they try to destroy that beauty, rip those exquisite feathers off, try so hard to be plain.
whumpees of common bird breeds. parrots bought purely for entertainment value. kept in poor conditions, overcrowded shelters and unethical breeders, until someone buys them, maybe buys them as a pet for their kid.
given little treats as rewards for making others laugh, even if the treats aren't good for them. taught to parrot things back or else there will be punishment. or maybe, worse; abandonment.
whumpees of livestock bird breeds, chickens and roosters kept on farms and caged backyard spaces in rural homes. desired only for their product, what they can produce.
not valued for anything unique, not given the little luxuries and indulgences that pets get. just the same routine day after day, always with the lingering fear of ending up on the cutting board if they stop being useful.

Whumpees who are chronically disconnected from their body. Whumpees who get asked if their pain is sharp or dull and literally don’t know the answer. Whumpee who doesn’t notice they’re cold until someone points out they’re shaking. Whumpee who doesn’t notice they’re hungry until they black out from standing up too fast. Whumpee who genuinely can’t tell when they’re over exerting themself because it all feels the same. It’s not that they don’t feel pain, it’s that they’ve learned to see pain as something constant and unavoidable, not something to be fixed, and they can’t distinguish between different kinds of pain anymore. They’ve learned to ignore the signals from their body while they were powerless, and now that they can prevent or fix pain they still aren’t attuned enough to their body to know how.
Just… whumpees who learned dissociation as a coping skill and now have to unlearn it. Whumpees who deeply benefited from being disconnected until they were safe, making it that much harder to unlearn

ok but you can't show off those killer clothing folds without telling us how you do them /silly /nf
-@rule-masochism
practice and observation, my friend. ;) it's taken me a while to learn how different fabrics and textures fold, and not just that, but how to translate that to my specific art style.
like here's how i was drawing clothing folds back in 2021:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i understood things like point of tension (the point on the fabric where the folds will crease the most and lead back to), and i kind of understood how fabric bunches together, but it doesn't quite feel like fabric to me. the curved line going down Logan's calve on the front of his pants makes that area look tighter where it should. Dirk's sleeve lines don't account for the shoulders, and his right cuff is just ugly. also way too many folds on his left side of the shorts.
compare that to how i draw folds now:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the 'outline' lines on Teddy's suit reflect the stiff texture of the material. the folds are focused more towards the lower center of his torso, where the material is pinched by the buttons and the natural shape of his chest. the crotch area of his pants has folds up at top instead of all gathered towards the thighs, and i'll typically do that now after having observed it on some reference images.
Logan's jacket not only has folds towards the tension point of his elbows (and the folds don't extend all the way, so it doesn't look as wrinkly and too-tight), but also has folds to show where the shoulders are and where the jacket seams are.
David's pants have folds going in the direction of where his legs are moving since he's mid-walk, and the folds in his shirt are straight, horizontal lines to show how it conforms to his chest and abs.
and i have learned the WONDERS that varying line width can do when it comes to folds, so now you'll see me use thicker lines for more prominent folds, and thinner lines to suggest where certain muscles or areas of the body are under the clothing.
like in this piece here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the ONLY purpose those thin lines have is to show David's pec on his left side, and to hint at the musculature of his chest by having that line go down his side, curving in where the pec is. without those lines, the torso appears flatter and with less muscle.

How about some robot whump, where Whumper is going all out on it with Caretaker forced to watch.
The android assures Caretaker, "Not to worry. I cannot feel it. There is no pain."
But that doesn't mean that Caretaker stops yelling at Whumper to stop tearing their friend apart in the most brutal way. Appendages ripped from its torso, wires sending sparks up, the humanoid features slowly but forcefully removed. Oil drips out, leaving dark puddles not quite unlike blood.
All the while, the android keeps diligently updating on its status:
"Sensory functions failing."
"Emotion recognition centre damaged."
"Visuals reduced to 30%."
"It's okay!" Caretaker shouts. "I can still fix you. I can fix it all!"
"Oh, can you?" Whumper croons, fingers teasing over loose wires and smashing a hammer to the core.
"Memory storage compromised," the android croaks, it's voice failing.
"Maybe you can fix it, Caretaker," Whumper says, raising the hammer again. "But will it get you your friend back?"

updated ref for Gold and Green AU Logan! here we have Logan as the Green he was born as, and then as the Golden he pretends to be.
Green Logan's design:
all Greens have symmetrical designs; it's a sign of submission.
all Greens have long hair; it's better to decorate and easier to pull.
Logan wears a Green earring; a black diamond with a green circle.
most Greens wear jewelry, but it tends to be lackluster in shine.
as a Green, Logan must stand with his legs together and his arms behind his back; it's considered the proper pose for a Green waiting to be commanded.
Logan's toes are bare because Greens do not deserve shoes.
Logan's Ring Brand is displayed clearly on his chest, so that area must always be left uncovered to show which Ring he belongs to.
Golden Logan's design:
all Goldens have asymmetrical designs; it's a sign of dominance.
only Goldens get to have sparkly capes.
all Goldens have short hair; it's more efficient for combat and demonstrates a lack of weakness.
Golden Logan wears a Golden earring; a gold clip around his lobe.
Golden jewelry is always the shiniest.
as a Golden, Logan stands with his legs spread to widen his stance and keeps his arm in front of him; a confident pose for a Golden ready to take charge.
Golden Logan has one arm due to having to amputate his left one, after his strength modulator prototype backfired and crushed the bones in that arm to dust.
Golden Logan wears an eyepatch because he lost his right eye during the fight to become a Golden. the eyepatch has a mechanism to compensate for the blind spot.
Golden Logan has the right to wear shoes.
though Golden's do have their own brands, they do not display them on their bodies like Green's do. their symbol is displayed somewhere on their outfit. for Logan, his Golden symbol is on his sleeve, and his Ring symbol is on his belt.
Logan chooses to have his sleeve cover his hand because it gives him the impression of being 'armless' and makes people underestimate him more.

Housewife
masterlist
content: cult setting, religious themes, lady whump, implied child abuse, isolation
“I’m going to the store,” Mary said, poking her head into the bedroom. “Would you like anything? Or would you like to come with me?”
“Oh, I’d love to come. I could use a walk.” Naomi got up from the bed and went to get dressed, and Mary left her to it.
It was always a little exciting whenever Mary got to go out. It was kind of rare for her to leave the farm, so grocery trips became nice little occasions instead of the mundane chore they had been before.
“Ready,” Naomi said as she stepped out of the room, and Mary gave her a bright smile. Her wife was always so pretty. She was always so proud to accompany her.
“Alright.” She grabbed the basket from the kitchen and opened the door. “Let’s go, then.”
The weather was particularly nice that day. Mary breathed in the fresh country air, delighted by just how amazing the newly cut grass smelled.
“Still enjoying the farm life?” Naomi asked.
“Of course! You said I might get tired of it, but thankfully, I don’t feel that way at all.”
“Mhm, I’m glad to hear that. Sometimes I miss being on the farm — but then I remember all that hard labour and I’m like, ‘well, maybe it’s good I’m not the one staying home.’”
Mary chuckled. “You worked a lot when you were a kid?”
“Oh, from sunup to sundown. We squeezed in a few hours of schoolwork between, but mostly it was just work.”
Mary knew Naomi had been homeschooled, but she still couldn’t imagine that sort of life. It wasn’t like she used her education too much here on the farm, but still… It felt important. It felt like children should’ve been allowed to go to school instead of work.
Maybe she was wrong.
“Naomi! Mary!” Eve ran up to them, basket in hand. “Are you going to the stores? Can I come with? We’re all out of sour cream and stuff.” Adam, Tommy, and Joy were just behind, all looking up at Mary with puppydog eyes. Mary didn’t even think about it before, but the kids didn’t really get to go out either, did they?
“Of course,” she said with a smile. “We can all go together.”
“Yay!” the two littlest ones squealed. “Thank you, Aunt Mary!”
“Shh, don’t be so loud,” Adam chided. “We gotta be well behaved, you know that.”
Eve laughed a little, ruffling Adam’s hair. “Always the responsible one.”
Mary tried not to think about what circumstances forced a child into the role of a third parent so early. Instead, she focused on Joy bouncing up next to her and slipping her small hand into hers. “Will you buy me chocolate at the store?” she asked.
“Oh, I don’t know, sweetie… I know your mother doesn’t like you eating a lot of that.”
Joy pouted. “I really, really want some. I’m sure Mommy wouldn’t mind. Right, Mommy?”
Eve sighed. “You can have one bar. Is that good?”
“Yes, yes! Thank you, Mommy!”
The walk to the store was uneventful as always; the children walked mostly quietly, which was still a bit unnerving to Mary. They didn’t chime in much, didn’t run around, they didn’t do what Mary would’ve expected children their age to be doing.
Well, they were well-behaved. That was a good thing, wasn’t it?
Still, there was an undertone of… much too harsh discipline. Mary had seen how Eve usually got her kids to behave, and it wasn’t… something she liked to think too much about.
In the store, the little group immediately attracted attention. Their long dresses and three little children turned heads in every aisle, but Mary was getting better at tuning it out.
In a weird way, as much as Mary wanted to be out in the real world among other people, those same people also scared her. She was so different by now. She almost felt like she was from a different world.
“Everything okay?” Naomi asked quietly. “You’ve been staring at that woman for a while.”
That woman could’ve been her, in another life; in a tank top and shorts, with her own money, with her hair buzzed. She turned to look at her wife and smiled. “Sorry, I was just zoning out.”
It wasn’t for her. None of this was for her. She was in the world, but not of it — none of them were. She belonged back on the farm, in her little abode, sewing her own clothes and cooking and cleaning like a good housewife.

Whumpee slips a note into a stranger’s palm, hoping they’ll understand the cry for help hastily scribbled on the scrap of paper.
But the stranger only smirks and hands the note to Whumper. “You should watch them a little closer.”

BEFORE DEREK:
Cassius doesn't let Logan cut his hair because he likes it long. The gray hairs are a result of the stress from the surgery, recovering from the surgery, and his forced stay at the mental hospital.
Cassius only brushes his hair and styles it when Logan is making a public appearance or having photos taken.
Cassius likes to have Logan's surgery scars visible at all times, as a reminder of what he used to look like.
The top scars are from the extra set of breasts being removed.
The abdominal scars are from the surgical procedure to remove the milk-producing glands from his reproductive system. After the milk was drained out, liposuction was used to remove the unneeded fat from the area.
Cassius only lets Logan get dressed for outings and photos.
Logan mostly only smiles when prompted.
AFTER DEREK:
Derek cuts Logan's hair to make him less recognizable. Logan likes it much better short. Derek helps him brush and take care of his hair, though they can't seem to get that stubborn strand from falling over his forehead.
Logan is allowed to dress when he wants, how he wants. He doesn't have much of a fashion sense developed yet, so he sticks to blue and white because it reminds him of the lab.
Logan is smiling more on his own.
Logan starts wearing a binder. He doesn't want top surgery (again), so he's content to bind in public and sometimes at Derek's home.

Can we please stop making caretakers act like literal robots? I don't necessarily mean to make your caretakers hide really bad injuries, even worse then whumpees. I mean just make them something more then just a medic-therapist sorta thing. They can be whumpees friend, sibling, partner or mentor, anything really. Giving them their very own problems other then caring for the hurt is quite importand, otherwise its not realistic whatsoever and like i said - makes them seem like robots or some kind of helping machines, of course unless thats the look youre going for.

Ref Recs for Whump Writers
Violence: A Writer’s Guide:  This is not about writing technique. It is an introduction to the world of violence. To the parts that people don’t understand. The parts that books and movies get wrong. Not just the mechanics, but how people who live in a violent world think and feel about what they do and what they see done.
Hurting Your Characters: HURTING YOUR CHARACTERS discusses the immediate effect of trauma on the body, its physiologic response, including the types of nerve fibers and the sensations they convey, and how injuries feel to the character. This book also presents a simplified overview of the expected recovery times for the injuries discussed in young, otherwise healthy individuals.
Body Trauma: A writer’s guide to wounds and injuries. Body Trauma explains what happens to body organs and bones maimed by accident or intent and the small window of opportunity for emergency treatment. Research what happens in a hospital operating room and the personnel who initiate treatment. Use these facts to bring added realism to your stories and novels.
10 B.S. Medical Tropes that Need to Die TODAY…and What to Do Instead: Written by a paramedic and writer with a decade of experience, 10 BS Medical Tropes covers exactly that: clichéd and inaccurate tropes that not only ruin books, they have the potential to hurt real people in the real world.
Maim Your Characters: How Injuries Work in Fiction: Increase Realism. Raise the Stakes. Tell Better Stories. Maim Your Characters is the definitive guide to using wounds and injuries to their greatest effect in your story. Learn not only the six critical parts of an injury plot, but more importantly, how to make sure that the injury you’re inflicting matters.
Blood on the Page: This handy resource is a must-have guide for writers whose characters live on the edge of danger. If you like easy-to-follow tools, expert opinions from someone with firsthand knowledge, and you don’t mind a bit of fictional bodily harm, then you’ll love Samantha Keel’s invaluable handbook

I think I'm spoiled on the OC whump side of tumblr. This shit is so good. Sorry I can't go back to Fandom whump I am far more invested in like Riot Kings and A Rose Amidst Thorns and Fear no Void and characters like Dog and Mal and Mariano and Aldercy and Altair and Lord Denholm and Nico and Mica. Like they're all so cool and then I go to Fandom whump and I'm bored. Hot take maybe but ugh ocs and original content just hit different.

oh my god... BEAUTIFUL!!!
I love how the sentence structure makes it seem so much more urgent !! These are all the details I just love, especially the choking, and rags are so so fun to use as gags bc they just fuckin dehydrate you
and whumper's pov at the end is very tasty. me fr 💯💯
we all love our gagged whumpees, but the way im automatically won over is when the tiny process of whumpee being gagged is described in very careful detail.
pushing the tangled hair out of their face so you can slide the straps under it. maybe it's coated with sweat.
if whumpee is defiant, i love seeing how they toss their head back and how you have to force their mouth open. maybe they bite a few times? very annoying for whumper. but shoving their head back towards you, gripping onto their hair and telling them to cut that shit out...ooh, that's fun.
obedient whumpees are just as fun because they'll just open up for whumper. stick that pretty tongue out and remain still as you clip it behind their head. maybe you can even stroke their hair a little. throw in a 'good boy/girl' for good measure 🙏🙏🙏
then theres the look!! i wanna know what they eyes are doing!! are they glaring straight ahead to avoid looking at whumper, or shooting daggers at them anyway? do they stare at the ground? or is it all listless if they've done this many times before?
and when you're done... i wanna know the result. what kind of gag is it (personally im a sucker for open-mouth) and how does it make em look? are they drooling already? what does whumper have to say about this?
i dont care how unnecessarily long you think you made your gagging scene, we're whump writers we're all here to indulge!! give your whumpee's mouths some love 🫶🫶
