idk if I ever mentioned this but back in September when I made this Necro or Cav quiz I remember still sitting on the couch where I just made the quiz an hour ago and drinking some wine with my roommate while reading people's messages. And I still vividly remember seeing an interesting name pop up and out loud saying "lmao some dumbass pretended to be torbooks in my quiz" to my roommate.
It was very funny until exactly five minutes later when on microblogging website Tumblr dot com,

Gideon at the end of Nona The Ninth strikes me as.. really odd. I know some people thought she's out of character because she's kinda mean - which I don't agree with - but honestly every time I get to that part I think: She's smarter than that.
I know fanon Gideon usually portrays her as a huge idiot and a goofball (fair enough for the most part) but she's also one hell of a skeptic and stubborn character that does NOT bend to authority easily. And let's remember The Unwanted Guest: We know that just by the nature of the Lyctor process Gideon must have picked up some stuff from Harrow as well, we even see it happen when she starts discussing basic necromancy at the end of Nona.
So, Gideon is now being sent to the ninth to kill Alecto, John's Cavalier, and take his place going forward, or at least this is what she says.
You see what I'm going at? She's smarter than that.
I am NOT saying she is acting out character by the way! But I think we don't give her motivations enough credit beyond being reckless because of grief. Gideon Nav who all her life has done nothing but hatch escape plans and NEARLY succeeded? Gideon Nav who is carrying part of Harrows soul? Gideon Nav WHO WATCHED THE EVENTS OF HARROW THE NINTH UNFOLD WITH HARROWS EYES?
I guess what I'm wondering is: What's her plan?

A severely underrated Dulcie Septimus moment is when she gets so disappointed that she can't talk Silas into joining the River Bubble Canaan House party that she refuses to sleep in the bed and self-flagellates by making herself an itty bitty nest on the floor and curling up and going sleepy sleeps. She finally found a way to be helpful and, despite the impossibility of the task, SHE FAILED EVERYONE, and thus must take the coziest lil floor nap as punishment. Palamedes, I get it. I would die for her also.

Not people saying “Fandom has always been like this” in that vent post I made. No. It hasn’t always been like this. Fandom has NEVER been like this until recently and if you were in fandom pre-tumblr purge, pre-twitter, pre-netflix boom, pre-tiktok….then you would fucking know it was nothing like this.
We still had the drive to create. We still sold prints and charms and made zines…but it was never like this.
The introduction of streaming, binge shows that drop all at once, tiktok and vine RIP i still love u vine but you were the beginning of a particularly ugly era) creating this bite sized, quick paced ‘content’ era of creation and it bled out into fucking everything else.
Fandoms didn’t die down when the show ended or the season was over. You didn’t mass unfollow artist, writers or moots just because they changed fandoms. There wasn’t this need to please the algorithm in order for your posts to get seen by people and enjoyed.
Fandoms used to last YEARS. Star Trek is literally the oldest running fandom out there and you got people in there that could care less about the new stuff and still have been happily prancing through their fucking fifty year old fandom today. Hell, even SPN after all it’s fuckups and shitshows has a dedicated fanbase STILL creating tons of art and fic.
There is no patience anymore. No calm feeling of taking in fandom and friends at a pace that which doesn’t make you stressed and is still fun.
Do I blame fandom for this? Of course not, but people are complacent with it and start changing their vocab to accommodate and end up making the situation so deep it cant be fixed.
We call Art & Fic Content now, completely stripping the value of what it is to a level of consumerism instead of personal entertainment & community bonding.

you know this series is good because i had to think for like 10 minutes wether to pick Palamedes and Camilla or Pyhrra and G1deon. Like they're both perfectly accurate and i think thats great
Harrowhark: 2 souls and divine possession breakfast is the most important meal of the day, that's right
Palamedes Sextus (currently taking the form of Camilla Hect trying to get me to listen to him): Do we think maybe a vegetable would cause less despair

i was about to change my lockscreen, and i thought "hey wouldnt it be cool if i used some art of harrowhark and put the litany of fear next to hear?" but then i stopped halfway through editing because hm. Maybe she could use a little more fear actually, this feels like dangerous advice for her specifically

so like say you became god and had complete control over your own physical form. what do you do with your dick. because obviously everyone’s gonna be like “oh you used flesh magic to enhance that thang” if it’s big, organically or not. and if it’s average to small then everyone’s gonna be like “wym you’re god and it’s four inches.” maybe you mix it up, tell people you’re gonna fuck like. you pick. what do you wanna get nasty with. yes i can do tentacles. otherwise like there’s no winning. i guess at that point i’d just found my new universe with the primary cultural view being that my dick is the absolute pinnacle of dicks. definitely a day 1 issue regardless.

something i've been thinking about is pyrrha's herald bullet.
pyrrha has one herald bullet, stolen from wake. and there is a moment where she points it at ianthe and tells her that it isn't meant for her. a real jack sparrow moment. move aside, neither of us wants this particular bullet to end up in you.
and then she uses it anyway. she uses it on ianthe to get past her into the tomb. and i can't stop thinking about that.
it was for john, right? pyrrha had one bullet and she can only have been saving it to, at a crucial moment, incapacitate john.
and pyrrha picked nona. like, yeah, you could argue that opening the tomb is more useful to killing john in the long run, but is it really? that "death of the emperor" stuff is mostly a lie. pyrrha knows that. pyrrha of all people knows it's not as simple as "open the tomb, the emperor dies."
and yet she wastes the bullet on ianthe, with no fanfare. fuck it, fuck john, fuck revenge, fuck any plans she might've had. she's gotta save nona. and if that pasty bitch is gonna stand between her and her nono's best shot at survival, then there's no question about it. no hesitation.
and isn't that what all this is about, in the end? pyrrha - jaded, angry, cynical pyrrha - forfeits personal revenge because nona needs help, and she can't waste time.
i'm having feelings about it.

after reflecting on this for a long time I have to admit this is my worst post ever. Do you know how mad I am that I didn't put "ianthe" on BOTH sides of this??? wasted potential.
the bisexual Gideon Nav thing lives in my head rent free actually because every time I just remember how she spent the entirety of her book describing protesilaus as basically an overly buff dude, an inoffensive manhunk, just a guy yknow
and then it's revealed that he's basically a walking corpse like yeah alright Gideon thank you for the appropriate amount of attention dedicated to the zombie bodybuilder, do tell me more about coronabeths hair.
