on a similar note i really like tiger philanthropist on rewatch. it’s probably even better for people who actually know wrestling, but it’s such a visually rich episode! it’s nice to notice the little things like the color palette switch during a punch, or the 3D animated (and some 2D even) dollar bills. steven’s cry towards lars asking what he really wants to see (and lars saying he’s just a teen who doesn’t even have his life figured out) sounds like it comes from such a real place that really shows the heart of this episode.

kevin party is THE MOST underrated su episode. it’s comedically so. so good and gets put at the bottom of so many tier lists by people who don’t get it. kevin’s whole schtick is hilarious as hell like thinking steven is 7 and can 7 year olds even break up? and yes this normal pink dog this kid has look at how she’s living it up. the fact that everyone else in the party is clearly chill and having an okay time. kevin’s obsession with old people. just. the gags really do it for me for some reason

#seeing katie and lamar’s take on purple puma is also cool #i love how they draw him vs other boarders #he’s drawn so cute by them lmao #i of course have only been talking about the most trivial of things regarding this episode #when there’s important marks of character development especially for amethyst #but it also shows how #as others get better and improve and get happier #steven is getting left behind #:( #s4 fr is the season where steven goes THROUGH it pre-future #it marks all the kinds of crises he’s getting into #and how isolated he’s getting #i also like onion gang for a similar reason #you can SEE steven’s incessant need to fix things #to please others

#steven universe #i decided to rewatch kevin party a while back on a whim #and was laughing SO HARD and thought wtf i don’t remember this episode being this good #lots of ppl dunk on it bc they don’t like steven and connie’s conflict #but i really like the dialogue exchange they have near the end! #and how once steven approaches her once and runs away #she immediately goes up to confront him #(where narratively i would expect a more stretched out back-and-forth) #which is so connie #also the fun fact where all the partygoers are just crewniverse members #but with glasses taken off because otherwise everyone would have glasses #is also hilarious #i do not do the humor of this episode justice by describing the jokes #because the facial expressions are also gold
