he doesn’t know when he dozes off, but he does, hb’s head laid on the bed that held his unconscious wife. only does the beast stir when a soft palm lands on his cheek, and as soon as he knows it’s lily he lifts his head to look at her, flesh hand moving up to gently place over her own, so that she couldn’t let go. ‘how was your nap, sweetheart?’ he breathes out, relief washing over his features with no shame. she’s okay, she’s going to live. hellboy almost lost his wife, his soulmate, hours before this moment, but she’s here, awake, and looking at him like she always does, albeit much more weakly. the devil turns to kiss her palm in the softest way possible, hoping not to hurt her by moving her too much. looking up at her, lily looks awful. but again, she’s alive. and that’s all that matters to him. ‘how’re you feelin’?’

Lily’s head rested back a little, her hand unwavering from its spot upon his cheek and her thumb continuing to rub over it as his hand covered hers, locking it there ( as if she’d pull away in that moment; she wouldn’t dare ). Though she felt weak, that ever so gentle kiss to her palm made her smile brighten before she spoke. “..Like shit, probably look like it too.. my right arm is killing me, among other things, how long was I out?” She let out a couple of coughs with her answer, her right arm is stiff, needs a shot soon, everything is sore and hurts like a bitch, so she tries to focus on the arm which holds his cheek as she talks. To think, she almost died and left this-- him, the light in her own dark life, behind.. but she’s still kicking, and nothing’s ripping her away from him if she could help it. She only moves her hand when he’s done, going to weakly lace their fingers together. “--And what about you, how’d you sleep?” How very typical of her to worry over him in such a state, she knows, but she still asks.
