Day 11–Puppy Fever
A/N: Sorry it’s late
Tumblr media
Y/N and Shawn had been together for two years now. They dated for one and had been married for the other. A few weeks after coming home from their honeymoon, Shawn had brought up an idea that made Y/N both excited and nervous.
She had been cooking breakfast when he snuck his arms around her waist and laid his head on her shoulder. His bare chest was pressed against her back.
“What if we got a dog,” he had asked.
“A dog?” She felt him nod against her shoulder. “I mean I’m not opposed to the idea of it, but you’re allergic honey.”
He hummed and pressed a kiss to her clothed shoulder. “I know, but I still think it would be fun. You know how much I love dogs. Please can we get one. When you’re not home and I am I would like some company to fill the void. I’m sure you would too.”
“Oh my hell Shawn. It’s like you have baby fever, but with dogs. So, I guess you have puppy fever. What has set this all off?”
“Well, when I got home from the studio yesterday and you were at the store, I just really missed you and wanted to cuddle. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a big dog to snuggle up next to when we miss the other person?”
“Aww, babe. I’m super flattered that you missed me that much. And I see your point. I guess we could find a hypoallergenic dog or something.”
“For real?!” Shawn looked like a little kid on Christmas. Y/N nodded. “I’ll start researching some dogs right now!” He sat down at one of the barstools and pulled out his phone. Y/N chuckled at her husband’s antics.
*****
Not even five hours later, Y/N and Shawn were driving to a breeder whose golden retriever had just had puppies. All of them were sold, but one. Y/N had told Shawn that they were just going to look at them and not buy any of them. He had agreed but knew her mind would change the minute she saw them.
And boy was he right. As soon as she laid eyes on the small golden retriever puppy, she fell in love. “He still hasn’t been bought yet, right?” Shawn questioned the breeder who was just trying to keep their cool over the fact that Shawn Mendes was in their house.
“No. He’s the only one. The others are getting picked up by new owners today and tomorrow. Are you guys willing to buy him? He’s 1500 dollars.”
Shawn looked at Y/N with puppy eyes who sighed at him. “Let me hold the little pup and then I will decide.”
The breeder quickly grabbed the puppy from the kennel and placed him into Y/N’s arms. “You’re a cute little fellow, aren’t you? You’re adorable.”
“We could name him Tarzan, Y/N think about it.”
“Fine, fine. Whatever, let’s just buy him.”
And so, they did buy him. And they took him to the store right after to buy food, a crate, and other essentials they would need.
*****
Now almost a year later, Tarzan was nine months old. He was as adorable and floppy as ever. He had grown quickly much to Y/N and Shawn’s dismay, but they still called him a puppy. Shawn decided to start taking allergy medication when his eyes got itchy, and he started sneezing.
“Told you this would happen,” Y/N had told him playfully one morning as they lay in bed, Tarzan at their feet.
Shawn rubbed his eyes and sneezed. “It’s okay. Tarzan is totally worth it.”
One day Shawn had come home from the studio with a big smile on his face and a bag from Petco. “What did you do babe?” Y/N had questioned him.
“You’ll thank me in a minute, trust me.” He turned away from her and went to go find Tarzan who was laying on his dog bed in the living room. “Hey buddy. Want to go for a walk?” Tarzan’s head lifted. “Yea buddy. Well first we got to put this on.” Shawn held up a dog sweater. He attempted to put Tarzan’s large legs through the wholes of the sweater and pull the hood up over his head.
“Dear, are you harassing the poor dog?” Y/N walked out from the kitchen and into the family room.
“He’s going to look so cute! Just imagine taking family Christmas photos with him. He needs to wear this for the front cover of our Christmas cards.”
“Ok, he definitely does look cute, but he also looks annoyed. Look at that face that he’s making.” Tarzan was staring up at the two from underneath his eyelids. He looked unamused.
“I’m sorry Tarzan, but this is what you get for peeing in the house all those times.” Shawn bent down to kiss him on the head and started sneezing. “And that is what you get for making fun of him,” Y/N laughed and went back into the kitchen. She returned a few minutes later with allergy medicine. “Poor dog. Your dad harasses you too much. You’re probably hot with that sweater on and your fur coat.”
“But Y/N, it’s cold outside. I just want to protect our child and make sure he’s going to stay warm.”
Y/N rolled her eyes at her husband. “He’s a dog. He’ll be hot with that sweater on even when you go outside. But I do agree that he looks cute in it. Otherwise, I would’ve made you throw it away.”
“Do you want to know what I think?”
“Sure, what do you think babe.”
“Well, I was just thinking that maybe we could have a baby next. Don’t you think it would be so cute if it had your face and your eyes. Of course, I would want us to have a boy first so he could protect his sister that will come next. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. What do you think about that?”
Y/N’s eyes widened. “A kid?! First you had puppy fever and now you have baby fever! I’ll have to think about it. And there’s no way you’re getting me to do this on a whim like you did when we bought Tarzan.”
“You sure about that,” Shawn asked, raising his eyebrows and sending her a mischievous smile.

Day 10–Cookie Monster (25 Days of Ficmas)
A/N: I know it’s late but I’m sick and my brother was in the hospital all las week. He’s good now but it was stressful
Tumblr media
Y/N and Shawn hadn’t known each other until six months ago. Y/N used to live in the United States and attended university there for a few years, but she longed for a change. So,when she found a good study abroad program in Canada, she didn’t waste a second to book a flight.
So now, here she was in the beautiful city of Toronto and attend Seneca College. She found a coffee shop a few blocks away from her campus and got a job there. The boss was an old women named Dinah who had lived in Toronto her whole life. She adored Y/N and quickly took her under her wing.
Sunday dinners at Dinah’s house became a weekly ritual. Dinah was a widow and thought of Y/N as her grandchild. So, it was no wonder that Dinah wanted what was best for Y/N.
“You’re 23 and you haven’t had a boyfriend since you were 21!”
“Dinah,” Y/N’s cheeks flushed, “It’s not like that. I’ve dated people, but nothing serious has happened.”
“You know, I got married to Phil when I was 18. We were having kids by 19. I don’t know what is up with you kids these days, waiting forever to get married.”
“Well, I just haven’t found the right guy.”
A mischievous smile lit up Dinah’s face. “You know the baked goods we sell at the shop?” Y/N nodded her head. “There’s an adorable boy who owns a bakery that we get them from. He’s around your age. I think he’s 24. He’s quite an ambitious man and I think you would like him.”
“Dinah! Quit trying to set me up with people.”
“Pfft. Darling, if he ain’t the one for you, I don’t know who is. The boy is drop dead gorgeous if I do say so myself. Cause Phil was really something to look at.”
“I haven’t even met him. How could you know that he is the one for me?”
“Just a gut feeling. He always gives you this puppy dog look when he drops off our delivery.”
“Oh really?” She raised her eyebrows at Dinah. “Why have I never seen or met him then.”
“You’re not the manager, are you? He drops them off at my office usually during rush hour. If you were a good employee, which I know you are, you would be busy serving those costumers. But I’ll tell you what. When he comes by with his delivery tomorrow, I’ll have you take it from him.”
Y/N rolled her eyes but agreed to it anyways. Dinah always ended up being right so there was no point in arguing with her.
*****
The next morning, Y/N spent a little extra time doing her hair and makeup so she could impress this boy of Dinah’s. And when Dinah pushed her towards the back of the coffee shop when the boy had arrived, Y/N was not disappointed.
He had chocolate curly brown hair, beautiful eyes, and a shy smile. Not to mention he was ripped. His biceps strained underneath his white t-shirt. He pulled up in a motorcycle with a basket on the front carrying boxes for their delivery.
And when he saw Y/N a light blush tinted his cheeks. “Where’s Dinah? Not that I mind seeing you here,” he winked at her.
She felt her face heat up. “Umm, she wanted me to grab the packages today. It’s nice to put a face to all the sweets that get delivered around here.”
He laughed and held out his hand to her. “I’m Shawn by the way. You’re Y/N, right? Dinah talks about you a lot to me. Always saying things like ‘You should ask that girl out on a date,’ and ‘Isn’t my Y/N so beautiful?’”
Y/N blew air out her nose in a tiny laugh. “Yep. She’s mentioned you a few times before too. She’s trying to set us up or something.”
“Seems like it. Are you upset by that?”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m going to be straight up: I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’ve been ogling at you ever since you started working here. And if that didn’t completely freak you out, would you be willing to go on a date with me?” He stared at the ground and internally kicked himself for being so awkward.
“Sure. Why not? You’re cute by the way.” And she pressed a kiss to his flushed cheek.
*****
Y/N and Shawn hit it off immediately. But don’t get me wrong, they had their fair share of fights. Mostly because the other person was jealous of someone.
Their first fight happened when Shawn was dropping off their delivery and he noticed Y/N wasn’t there to greet him. So, he decided to use the employee entrance (something he had become accustomed to since he started dating Y/N) and saw Y/N leaning over the counter and chatting it up with a tall blonde. She laughed flirtatiously and played with her hair.
He felt his jaw clench and he saw red. He marched right over to Y/N and the boy and pulled her back to Dinah’s office. Dinah passed them on the way, a quizzical look on her face as she went to go take over for Y/N. “Don’t be too long.”
“What the hell was that back there?!”
“What? Why are you yelling at me?”
He could sense the hurt in her voice, so he quickly changed his tone. “I’m sorry dove, but why were you and that guy all over each other?”
“Oh. You mean Ian. The blonde dude?” Shawn nodded his head and Y/N laughed at him. “I guess I should’ve introduced you guys. He’s my roommate’s brother.”
“And how does that make it any better?”
“He’s gay. I thought you could maybe tell from the way he was dressed.”
“Oh,” Shawn’s eyebrows raised in surprise and then he chuckled and grabbed Y/N’s hand. “I’m sorry babe. I…that was an overreaction.”
“Yea. Definitely. But I forgive you.”
“You know, when you’re jealous you get all grouchy and mean like the cookie monster.”
“A cookie monster huh? I guess that fits me. I do bake a lot of cookies.”
*****
The second time Y/N got jealous. Her shift had ended early because Dinah was being generous and had hired another employee. So, Y/N decided to walk to Shawn’s bakery. As she entered the shop, she saw a beautiful brunette girl with brown eyes. She looked to be around 20.
“Shawn! What’s taking so long?” She heard the girl whine. Whoever she was, she knew Shawn well. It made a weird feeling tumble around in Y/N’s stomach.
“I’ll be right there doll.”
Doll! That name was only reserved for Y/N. Y/N went to stand behind the girl in line, letting the girl’s height hide her from Shawn’s view when he came out from the kitchen.
“Ok, here’s your pie you’ve been wanting all week. Don’t eat it all in one night.”
She leaned over the counter and kissed Shawn’s cheek and Shawn didn’t do anything about it. As the girl started to leave the shop, Shawn spotted Y/N who stared angrily at him.
Shawn noticed his mistake and his cheeks flushed. “Aaliyah, come back!” He called to the girl who was walking out the door.
She turned around confused. “There’s someone you should meet. This is Y/N, the girl I’ve been telling you about.”
“Oh my gosh! I’ve heard so much about you! You’re even more pretty in person. Wow! Mom’s going to be so jealous when I tell her I met you!” The girl pulled Y/N into a hug and took her by surprise. Aaliyah pulled away and smiled. “I’m Shawn’s sister by the way.”
Y/N nodded her head, pulled her lips into a thin line, and closed her eyes. “I got that after you said your mom was going to be jealous. It’s nice to meet you now that I know you’re not giving my boyfriend a kiss on the cheek because you’re dating him or something.”
Aaliyah chuckled. “Yeah. You must’ve been so confused.”
Shawn rubbed the back of his neck. “All of this is my bad. If I would’ve introduced you to my family sooner none of this would’ve happened. Sorry babe.”
“It’s alright. I know I’ve been busy with college and you with this place, so I get it. I do wish that I would’ve seen a picture though.”
“You guys should come over tonight. I got this pie because I’m in charge of dessert for our family dinner. It’s just me and our parents.”
“You up for that honey?” Shawn questioned. Y/N nodded her head.
“Yeah, tonight should work.”
“Perfect. See you guys there.” She left the shop for real this time and Shawn had a smirk on his face.
“Now who’s the cookie monster.”

Day 9–Trapped Together (25 Days of Ficmas)
Tumblr media
A/N: Did you guys hear about the six feet of snow New York was getting? I based this story off of that.
Shawn sighed as he sat down on the bench in the underground station. He was supposed to be with his family right now, but with weather delays, he was unable to catch a flight to Toronto for another two days. Hence why he sat on a creaky metal bench, his guitar case at his feet. He would’ve taken an uber or called a driver, but they were all booked out for the holidays. And since every member from his team had gone home to spend time with their families, it was just him.
The subway station was barren. Only him and one other girl sat around the station. He could only see her out of his peripheral and from what he could see, she was blowing hot air on her hands and shivering. It was a little chilly in the subway station, but Shawn didn’t think it was that cold.
He glanced over at her only to be startled with her beauty. Even bundled up in a coat and a beanie, she was immediately the most gorgeous women he had ever seen. And just as he noticed this, he noticed that she was soaking wet. He jumped from his place he was sitting at and ran over to where she stood.
“Are you ok?!” He questioned frantically, concerned for the women who stood before him.
“Umm…I…. I…d-do y-you k-now w-what t-time it is?”
“It’s 7:25 pm.”
“Shouldn’t t-the t-train b-be h-here?”
“Yea. I think it said arrival time was right about now. Do you maybe want to take off that coat. I was going to the airport, but my flight was cancelled so I have some clothes you can wear.”
“I-I would hate t-to inconvenience y-you, but if you could, that would be nice.”
Shawn nodded walking over to his suitcase, unzipping it and pulling out a hoodie, some sweatpants, and some boxers. He didn’t care if she wore them, she was soaked to the bone.
Just as he finished zipping his suitcase back up, the subway pulled in, opening its side doors. Shawn and Y/N quickly boarded, and Y/N retreated to the bathrooms.
She returned from the bathroom as the subway had started moving again. Shawn smiled softly at her. She looked cute in his clothes. And most importantly, she looked warm.
“Hey. I know this may be all backwards and all, but what’s your name?”
“Y/N. My name is Y/N. And I hope you don’t think I’ve taken advantage of you. What with you being famous and all.”
Shawn blushed. “So, you recognize me.”
She nodded. “Does that make you feel weird?”
“Np, you haven’t acted like a creep fan just yet, other than stealing my clothes,” he joked. “Why were you soaking wet anyways?”
She chuckled. “I’m a waitress at this restaurant in the city. Me and my coworker like to play pranks on each other. I was closing on my own tonight since all my coworkers were doing things with family for Christmas. Anyways, I opened the door to the kitchen as I was closing, and a bucket of water fell on top of me.”
Shawn shook his head, holding in a laugh. “I’m sorry. That’s kind of funny but really mean. How dare they pull a prank like that on you on Christmas day!”
“It’s fine. I’ve done worse.”
“Oh, do tell.”
So, Y/N spent the next twenty minutes of the subway ride explaining to Shawn in great detail about all the pranks her and her coworker had played on each other.
About halfway through one of her stories, the train came to an abrupt stop and the lights went out. Y/N screamed, and Shawn instinctively wrapped his arm around her protectively.
“Don’t worry. I’m sure they’ll get the train up and running in a few minutes. Must’ve been the storm. Finish telling me your story and I’ll recount a few things from tour.”
*****
After about another hour of them sitting in the dark and telling each other their life stories, they both began to get tired and cold. Shawn produced a few blankets from his suitcase and a pillow, and they cuddled up on the floor of the subway, trying to warm the other up.
When they awoke in the morning, Shawn’s arm was wrapped around Y/N’s waist, and they were snuggled under the blankets. The train had started to move which awoke the two of them.
They both chuckled and laughed the night off. “That was wacky. Maybe I can take you out to breakfast to help heal our traumatized minds?” Shawn questioned.
“Sounds nice. But I have a question for you? Once you take me out to breakfast, I have a friend who is taking me up to Toronto because I have family up there that I’m trying to get to as well. Would you like to catch a ride with us?”
“Any time I can get to spend with you will be cherished.”
He gently kissed her cheek as they prepared to deboard from the subway.
A/N: This was absolute trash, but the prompt for day 9 wasn’t too great haha. Sorry for the disappointment.

Part 1
Tumblr media
Two years had passed since the dreadful fight between Y/N and Shawn. After he walked out of the door, he also walked out of Y/N’s life.
Two days after the breakup there was a knock on her door. Brian stood on her porch holding a box full of her stuff that she had left at Shawn’s. He looked sheepish (but anyone would if they were sent with this task).
Brian and Y/N had met through Shawn, but they instantly clicked and became close friends. Y/N and Shawn always made sure to keep Brian out of their arguments so that he wouldn’t have to pick a side, but now that they were broken up, it seems that Shawn didn’t care about following this rule anymore. However, Brian was Shawn’s friend first so Y/N wasn’t going to fight over him.
“Woah, you look like shit,” Brian chuckled to lighten the mood, but Y/N shot him a death stare.
“Yea well that’s what happens when you break up with someone who you thought would be your end all be all. But thanks for the compliment. Is this the stuff that I left at his house?”
Y/N felt a pang of sadness jolt through her. She knew she should probably grab all of Shawn’s hoodies to return to him while Brian was here.
“Yea. He said that it hurt too much to look at.”
Y/N sighted. “Let me go grab his stuff while you’re here. I don’t want to have bring it over myself either.”
“No, don’t! He ummm he said that he didn’t want his stuff back.”
Y/N was confused, but nodded her head taking the box that Brian held out.
“I’m gonna miss you Bri.”
Brian smiled sadly at her. “Hey, it’s not the end of our friendship. I just don’t think we should talk for a few months, you know. Just til you both have some time to heal.”
Y/N nodded and Brian pulled her in for a hug. “You know he never wanted it to end this way. You can still fix this,” he whispered.
“I…he was right. I wasn’t spending as much time as I should with him. I got too busy. Maybe will find each other again someday, but for now, we both need to focus on our stuff.”
“You know he said the same thing.”
Y/N chuckled. “Guess that’s one of the things we can agree on then. Tell him I wish the best for him.”
“Of course.”
Y/N sat in her office pouring over a case when her phone rang. She quickly picked it up. “Hello this is Y/N L/N from L/N Law Firms. What can I do for you?”
“Umm hi. It’s been a while. This is Andrew.”
Y/N furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. “I’m sorry. Andrew who?”
“Oh! Sorry! This is Andrew Gertler. I’m Shawn’s manager.”
Y/N felt a pang of guilt run through her. She and Andrew hadn’t been particularly close, but Shawn had seen him as a brotherly figure and he was very fond of him.
“Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry! How are you?!”
“I’m doing ok. And actually that’s why I called you. I have a huge favor to ask and you can decline, but I would really appreciate if you didn’t.”
“Alright. What can I help you with?”
“Well, you probably won’t want to take this case, but we recently decided that Shawn should do a duet with this new upcoming artist. She agreed to it, but after the duet, she released new music. But it wasn’t hers. She stole Shawn’s music. But now it’s gotten into legal matters and…well Shaw was wondering if you would be the attorney for his case. He said that you are the best and he knows that he has a good chance at winning with you.”

City Of Love
City of Love (Personal Assistant AU—Reversed Roles)
A/N: So, in this imagine, Shawn is Y/n’s personal assistant and Y/N is the popstar. Andrew is still her manager, but Brian is a girl, and his name is Brianna. Haha, hope you like it
Summary: Shawn is Y/N’s assistant and he’s head over heels for her. Does she feel the same for him?
Warnings: Swear Words
Tumblr media
There was no doubt in anyone’s mind that Shawn was in love with the Y/N L/N. It was a known fact. The team knew, the fans knew it, hell even Y/N herself knew it. And it wasn’t like he tried to hide it either. Not in the loving glances he sent to her. Not in the long hugs he pulled her into at the end of her shows. Not in the soft kisses he planted on her forehead when she was feeling extra stressed. He was completely transparent.
Y/N on the other hand was a different story. No one could really tell with her how she felt for him. And she did it on purpose. She couldn’t date her personal assistant. It would be too messy. Plus, he was her best friend. She couldn’t ruin that friendship for a relationship that might not even last.
So, when Shawn would give her those glances, she would roll her eyes at him and act oblivious. When he would pull her into those bear hugs, she would pat his back in a friendly way. And when he would kiss her on the forehead, she would brush it off as a kind act.
She was chastised by her friends, her team, and her family. “You can’t keep letting him wander around you like a lovesick puppy. Just put poor Shawn out of his misery. You have to tell him that you don’t feel that way about him.”
But she did feel that way about him. She just couldn’t. And she knew it was wrong to lead him on like she was, but she couldn’t do anything. She wanted him in her life. She wanted him in any way that she could get. And if that was just as a best friend/personal assistant then that was how it would have to be. And it wasn’t like he had ever told her about his true feelings for her. He had never actually said the words “I love you in more than a platonic way.” So, until that happened, she was perfectly fine with the way their relationship was.
*****
Shawn was mesmerized with the way she sung to the crowd so passionately. It honestly put him in a daze. “You’re so whipped,” Brianna laughed.
“Shut up,” he blushed. “If only I knew she felt the same. Does your best friend really have to be the most confusing women on this planet?”             “I ask myself the same question every day. I’m not even sure how she feels about you. She hasn’t ever come out and explicitly said she likes or dislikes you. It’s almost like she doesn’t know if she should like you or not. She’s undecided. It’s weird and so unlike her. You know her probably better than me. You spend more time with her. She’s never indecisive. She always seems to know what she wants. It’s only when it comes to you that she doesn’t. I can’t tell if it’s a good or a bad thing.”
Shawn sighed. “Somedays I wonder if she even wants me here. And then others, it’s like I’m the only person that exists to her.”
Y/N finished her last song and came running off the stage. Shawn pulled her into one of his famous hugs while she patted his back. “You were amazing! Not that I don’t think every show is fantastic, but I think this one is your best one yet!”
“You say that every night,” she chuckled.
“Cause it’s true! It gets better every time you preform.”
She pulled away from the hug. “You’re only saying that because I am your boss.”
And there she went ruining a sweet moment. She always had to bring up her job around him and frankly it hurt his feelings. She was more than just his boss to him. She was his confidant, the person who knew him better than anyone else, the person who helped him through his anxiety.
She didn’t seem to notice the shift in his demeanor as Andrew patted her on the shoulder congratulating her. Brianna sent him a sympathetic smile and rubbed his arm.
This small gesture caught Y/N’s attention from the corner of her eye. She felt a small pang of jealously go through her, but it faded quickly when Shawn turned back to her and sent her one of his signature smiles.
*****
After showering and getting back on the tour bus, Y/N headed for the back of the bus towards her room. They were going to Paris the next day, the city of love. It had always been on Y/N’s bucket list to go there, but they had skipped it her last tour. To say she was excited was an understatement. She had even convinced Andrew to give them three extra days after her show in Paris for her and the team to explore. Andrew obliged even though everyone knew that he secretly wanted to explore France just as much as the rest of them.
“Knock, knock,” Shawn said outside her door.
“Come in.” She was laying on her bed reading a book in her sweatpants and one of Shawn’s old band t-shirts. And that was another thing that confused Shawn. She and Shawn would often sleep in the same bed together because they both enjoyed the comfort. Occasionally Shawn would lend her his shirts (which he thought she looked adorable in), and she would willingly accept. Which probably wasn’t an odd thing for best friends to do, but she rarely gave them back which pulled on Shawn’s heartstrings, making him think that maybe he had a chance.
She glanced up at him and felt her heart stop. He was shirtless, which wasn’t a new thing for her. But damn did he look fine tonight. His hair was a tousled mess, and it was so extremely attractive to her. She tried to hide her infatuation by glancing back down at her book, but she couldn’t focus on the words.
“Are you going to stay the night in here,” She asked him to try to seem nonchalant.
“Obviously! We still have that season of the bachelorette to finish! I’m so excited to see who she’s going to choose.”
Y/N shook her head at him. “And to think that three months ago you thought this show was obnoxious.” She thought it was sweet that he wanted to watch something with her.
“Hey, once it gets started it’s actually kind of entertaining. But at first glance it doesn’t seem that way.”

Doubts
Summary: Y/N and Shawn both have big dreams, but what happens when those dreams interfere with the other person’s?
Warnings: None
Part 2
Tumblr media
Y/N was a hardworking and talented woman. She longed to be a lawyer, and no one was going to stop her from doing just that. It took her years to finally get off Harvard’s wait list and get accepted into the college. After that, it had been a long and grueling process to get to where she was; an intern for one of the best law firms in the world.
Along with working hard came distance from her friends and family. She struggled to keep in contact while she studied for many hours a day. However, there was one person who was relentless and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t cut ties with him.
Shawn Mendes was her amazing loving boyfriend whom she had tried to break up with at least five times during the span of her law school days. He refused to let her. He knew the only reason she was breaking up with him—or at least trying to—was because she felt bad that she couldn’t spend lots of time with him.
Not only was their relationship strained because of her job, but Shawn was an international rock star! But he made time for Y/N. She was his top priority, even above music. Because he felt it in his heart that she was the one. And so, whenever she tried to break up with him, he told her that he would quit his music if she did. Because honestly and truly, his music was worth nothing if she wasn’t a part of his life.
So, with all the sacrifices Shawn was making came a frustrated manager, a loss of fans, and an increase of hate comments left on his social media accounts. To say Shawn was struggling was an understatement. And that was part of the reason why Y/N wanted to break up with him.
Regardless, Shawn wouldn’t let her. He was getting exhausted though. He just wanted to know for sure that Y/N wasn’t going to pull her bullshit “breaking up with him” spiel again. He was agitated because he felt like he was putting more into the relationship, which really sucked for him because he was making a lot of sacrifices for her.
Y/N did love Shawn, but it was really hard for her to focus on him and her career at the same time. And to top it all off, she knew she wasn’t good enough for him. He was a household name, and she was just some law student hoping that something would come out of her internship.
Because of these things, their relationship had been strained. Y/N found it easier to stop going to Shawn’s house after work to avoid the arguments, while Shawn would just end up going to her house instead where the fight would ensue.
It was always sharp jabs thrown at each other, nothing too serious. Until one day when Shawn had been yelled at by his manager for showing up late for the studio again. Truth be told, he was trying to fix Y/N breakfast to apologize for the fight they had had the night before. Unfortunately, this only added to Shawn’s stress.
He was fighting so hard for their relationship, but Y/N seemed like she wanted to give up. She said she was ‘tired,’ and that she ‘couldn’t keep fighting anymore.’ And while Shawn understood her reasoning, he was fighting for her with everything in him.
After being yelled at by Andrew, he got an unexpected call from Brian asking if he was still up for getting drinks that night. And as much as Shawn wanted to accept, he knew that he needed to fix his relationship first.
He knew Y/N cared about him and really did want to be with him, but she was damaging their relationship by not trying to put Shawn first. And at this point, he was sick of it. He loved, he really did, but it was becoming too hard for him. He needed to confront her and communicate the way he felt to her.
But when he arrived at her house that night to visit her, he didn’t expect to see a nice dinner made and her table set for two.
“Surprise!” She greeted him in the kitchen, her hair tied in a bun at the top of her head. She had an apron on and flour coated her face. “I thought I would make us some dinner. We both need some quality time with each other.”
Shawn smiled sweetly at her. It was moments like this that made him fight for her. “This is wonderful darling. Thank you so much!” He kissed her on the head and helped her finish off dinner.
***
“So, Shawn as much as I love to cook for you, I actually invited you over tonight to tell you about how I got the job!”
Ah yes, the job. The one she had been wanting for a year now. The one that made Shawn release the album four months late because he was so busy chasing her all around the country so she could get the job. He had sacrificed just as much, if not more for her job than she had.
“Hmm,” he wanted to be happy for her, he truly did.
But he also wanted to settle down and start a family and it was proving to be very difficult to do so when his girlfriend wasn’t around for more than five hours of the day. How was he supposed to find a time to propose to her in the chaos of it all?!
He had brought the ring everywhere with him since he got it, which was five months ago. And every time he got close to her proposing, she seemed to always have to take a call or run into the office. It was infuriating.
He knew he wasn’t perfect, and he also wasn’t around a lot, but he was around more than she was and that was saying something because his job was a lot more tasking than hers, truth be told.
“That’s great darling,” he said. He tried to make it sound exciting, but he was also hiding a lot of disappointment. He was hoping she wasn’t going to get the job. She was very ambitious, and he loved her for that, but her having this job meant that they would spend even more time apart.
“You’re not happy. You’re disappointed,” she said nervously. She had been on edge and didn’t want to tell him about her job because she had suspected this reaction. He was exhausted and she understood that. He didn’t want to keep chasing her around and she also understood that. But couldn’t he at least be happy for her, or at least pretend to?
“No, honey I’m not. It’s just that…well I didn’t want to spoil the surprise, but I’m going on tour again and I was hoping you would come with me. But with this new job…it’s just…. never mind.” He sighed defeatedly.

Mother’s Day
Summary: Mother’s Day is coming and reader and Shawn find out some exciting news
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
“Shawn…I know we were planning on just relaxing for this week, but I really feel like we should go see your parents,” Y/N said, sitting down on the couch next to her husband of two months. He wrapped his arms around her body and pulled her closer into him, inhaling her sweet scent.
“Hmm, what about your parents?”
“We saw them last week. Plus, it’s Mother’s Day and we haven’t seen them since the wedding. I mean I know we’re in LA and they’re all the way in Canada, but I think we should go see them. And besides, don’t you want to see Liyah?”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right,” he sighed resting his head on her neck and pressing gentle kisses to her shoulder. “I’ll book plane tickets tonight then. When do you want to leave?”
“Well maybe we should talk to them first and make sure they don’t have anything going on,” She chuckled at her husband’s excitement.
“Sure, I’ll call them right now.” Shawn pulled away from his wife’s touch and grabbed his phone from his pocket. He hit the call button on his dad’s contact.
Manny picked up right away. “Hey dad! How’s it going?” Shawn put the phone on speaker and rested it on the coffee table, snaking his arms around his wife again.
“What’s up son? It’s been a minute since you’ve called me, bud. How are you and Y/N?”
“Hey Manny,” Y/N said, “We’re doing great! Your son is the best husband I could’ve ever asked for.” She felt Shawn lightly pinch her side in a teasing way.
“I’m glad to hear that. What’re you guys up to?”
“What are you and mom planning on doing for Mother’s Day? We want to fly out to see you guys!”
“You’re kidding! You guys are flying out this week to see us?!”
Y/N giggled. “I told you it was the right decision to make.”
“Of course, it was Y/N’s idea. You always have perfect timing. We were actually thinking about flying out to see you guys, but if you want to come here, that would be great! When are you planning on getting here?”
“Hmm well we want to be there for Mother’s Day so maybe we’ll fly out Thursday night and get there Friday morning?” Shawn looked to his wife to make sure she was okay with that.
“Yeah, that sounds good,” she said.
“I agree,” Manny said. “Alright well I’ll talk to you kids tomorrow and figure out the details. Love you!”
“Love you too,” Y/N and Shawn said in unison.
Shawn hung up the phone and laid his head down on the couch, pulling Y/N with him. She fell on top of him as they both giggled, staring into each other’s eyes passionately.
***
The next morning woke up with a stomachache. She ran to the toilet and threw up, Shawn quickly followed after her and held her hair back. He knelt next to her pulling her against his chest once she had finished.
“Babe, you’ve been throwing up a lot lately. Do you think…maybe that you’re pregnant?”
Shawn and Y/N had been trying to get pregnant since their wedding night, but they hadn’t had any luck. It had only been two months and they weren’t expecting to get pregnant right away, but with the amount of times Y/N had thrown up in the last week, it led Shawn to believe that maybe she was.
“I…probably. If not, then something’s really wrong with me. So, we should just go get a few tests then.”
“No, no babe you stay here. I’ll go get them. Let me run you a bath.”
“You really don’t have to do that Shawn.”
“I know, but I want to. C’mere, let me braid your hair.” He gently braided her hair down her back and started the bath for her. He added a lavender bath bomb to it and then kissed her lips a few times before pulling back.

The Five Senses of Falling in Love
Summary: Shawn falls completely in love with the reader
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
Sight:
It was the first celebrity party he had been invited to and he didn't have a clue how to talk to anyone. He was so star struck by everyone in the room his brain couldn't even begin to process how to start a conversation. He was only a 16-year-old boy for heaven's sakes. He didn't belong with these people. Or at least he felt like he didn't.
She also happened to be 16, but this was not her first celebrity party. In fact, she had been going to these for years. She had gotten famous at the age of 12 when she went on America's Got Talent and won for her amazing singing. She was then recruited by a record label. She wrote two albums and then started her career as an actor. She was possibly the most famous teen of the decade.
She had seen him from across the room and instantly blushed. He looked handsome in his black leather jacket, white t-shirt, and black pants. She couldn't deny that she had a little bit of a crush on him. So, when she saw him standing awkwardly in the corner biting his lips, she took the opportunity to talk to him.
Shawn knew who she was. Of course he did! She was one of his biggest idols. But seeing her in person turned him speechless. He didn't know such beauty could exist in the world. His TV and photos could never do her justice. And when he saw her walking over to him, he panicked and started to walk in the direction of the bathroom until he tripped over his own two feet right in front of her.
"Are you okay?" She had asked reaching out her hand to help him up.
His breathing was shallow as he took it and stood up from the floor. "Thanks, and yeah, I'm okay."
"Is this your first celeb party?"
Shawn nodded shyly. "Is it really that obvious."
She shook her head. "No, not really. You just look exactly like how I felt when I went to my first party. It's super nerve-wracking especially when you don't know anyone in the industry and don't want to get involved with the wrong people." "Yeah I think I've already made a fool out of myself, and I've barely even spoken."
"Don't worry, it's normal to feel like that. I still feel like that sometimes. It's our ego that makes us feel this way, you know. When you first walk into the party you feel on top of the world, like nothing can bring you down. You think you're the coolest person here because you got invited to a celebrity party. And then the first two minutes pass, and if they don't go bad, then something is definitely wrong.
"And then you realize that you're just a normal person with normal people who just so happened to get some of the same opportunities. But seriously, there are some people who walk around here that they are better than you when you are literally at the same party as them and you're famous, just like them.
"Sorry, did I overwhelm you," and she sent him the most drop-dead gorgeous smile he had ever seen.
***
Sound:
Y/N and Shawn ended up talking the whole rest of the party and the night ended in them exchanging numbers and promising to hang out again soon. After that night, they became as close as any two people could become.
Y/N took Shawn on tour with her as her opening act and it allowed them to become infinitely closer to each other.
It was the first show of Y/N's world tour and to say he was nervous was an understatement. He really wanted to impress her and her fans, but he was worried that he wasn't good enough to be performing at a Y/N L/N concert!
At his five-minute call time he exited his dressing room and made his way to the stage entrance. "Alright Shawn, you've done lots of performances before. This is nothing different. You're going to do fantastic!" His manager, Andrew, encouraged him.
Shawn nodded his head, unable to speak. He feared that if he did, he would vomit all over the ground. He longed for his mother to embrace him and whisper into his ear that he was her 'special boy.' Her words always brought comfort to him.
He heard feet pounding against the floor behind him and when he turned around, he saw Y/N hurtling towards him full speed. When she reached him, she threw her arms around his neck wrapping him in a bear hug.
"You're going to do amazing out there. You're so talented and you know it. And that's all you have to do, prove to yourself that you can do this. You don't have to prove anything to me or anyone out there. We already see your potential or else you wouldn't be here. I know how it feels to think that you're not good enough, but once you let your guard down, you realize 'yeah, I'm just a human who loves music and I'm doing what I love.'"
"Shawn, one minute until you're on stage!"
The sound of screaming increased out in the crowd and Shawn felt his breathing quicken again. Y/N grabbed him by the shoulders and forced him to look at her.
"Hey, hey. Just listen to my voice. Match your breathing to mine. Just breathe. In....out....in....out," and Shawn slowly felt his heart rate slow down listening to the beautiful sound of her voice.
Touch:
It had been a few years since Y/N and Shawn went on tour together, but they were still as close as peas in a pod. They didn't see each other as much as they used to anymore, but they tried to keep in contact as best as they could.

Day 8–All I Want for Christmas (25 Days of Ficmas)
Tumblr media
A/N: I used the song ‘All I Want for Christmas’ and said that Shawn wrote it. So, all the credit to Mariah Carey.
Shawn stared at Y/N as the winter sunlight poured in through the window and onto her body. He couldn’t help but admire her. She was the most beautiful girl he had ever met. And the skin of her bare shoulder was so soft as he rubbed it up and down, pressing a kiss to it.
He whispered a soft ‘I love you’ to her before unwrapping his arm from her waist and standing from the bed. He yawned and stretched before walking to the bathroom. He wasn’t supposed to go into the studio today. It was the day before Christmas Eve, and he had to finish a song he had been writing for Y/N. He was going to give it to her as a Christmas present, and he was almost finished, he just had to perfect the chorus.
He walked out of the bathroom, slipping on a simple white shirt and a green cardigan over it. He looked back and Y/N and smiled, still enamored by her beauty even after a year with her. Even when she was sleeping, soft snores leaving her lips.
Shawn had woken up Tarzan who now was slowing sitting up in the bed and preparing to jump off onto the floor. Shawn sped walked over to him and petted his head. “You need to stay right here Tarzan. It’s five in the morning. Mommy won’t be happy if you wake her up right now.” He placed a kiss on the dog’s head and started to retreat from the room.
“Shawn,” he heard a soft, tired voice whisper. Shit. He had woken her up.
“Yea baby,” Shawn walked to her side of the bed and kneeled down. He stroked her hair and kissed her forehead as she yawned.
“Where are you going?” She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and rubbed Tarzan’s head.
“I’m going into the studio baby. I know I said I was done until the New Year, but I just got some inspiration. I’ll only be a few hours, I promise.”
“Ok, good luck baby,” she whispered, already falling back to sleep.
He kissed her head one more time before leaving for the studio.
*****
“Teddy! I just can’t perfect this!” He yanked on his hair and stood from his chair.
“Sit back down! We’re almost there, I can feel it. You’re on the edge of a breakthrough. Just sing through it one more time and maybe the lyrics will come to you.”
Shawn nodded picking up his guitar. When he finished strumming the last chord, he had a smile on his face. “I’ve got it.Santa, won’t you bring me the one I really need? Won’t you please bring my baby to me?” He sung holding out the e in me.
“Booyah! Nice job Shawn! She’ll love it.”
Shawn stood up hugging Teddy and wishing her a merry Christmas. “I owe you one for coming in today.”
“Just make me the godmother to your children and it’ll all be repaid.”
Shawn laughed unlocking his car and getting into it. He started to heat it up when Y/N called him. It was 8:30 which meant she must’ve just gotten done with the gym.
“Are you done with the studio yet?”
“Just finished up. Why?”
“Could you possibly bring me home a peppermint hot chocolate from Starbucks?”
Shawn’s face lifted into a smile. “Anything for you baby. I’ll be home in 20 minutes.”
Shawn hung up the phone and Y/N smiled to herself. That was all the time she needed to finish wrapping his presents andpull the muffins out of the oven for him.
*****
Shawn grinned as he heard Christmas music coming from their kitchen and the smell of chocolate chip muffins filled his nose. “Hmm, I love you baby.” He said as he walked into the kitchen, placing down her hot chocolate, and stealing a muffin from the tray. He pinched her bum, kissing the side of her head before heading over to pet Tarzan.
“Shawn, can I take you out to eat tonight. You’ve been working hard in the studio, and I just want to celebrate you.”
“That sounds good.” He couldn’t have asked for a better girlfriend. He couldn’t wait to make her his wife someday soon. He patted his coat pocket and felt the velvet box inside.
*****
Christmas morning had finally arrived and to say Shawn was nervous was an understatement. They cooked pancakes together and FaceTime both their parents. And finally, it was time to open presents.
Y/N had given Shawn a new guitar—which cost her three months’ worth of savings—to which Shawn was thrilled with. He was worried about the cost, but she told him that it wasn’t a big deal.
When Shawn nervously tuned the new guitar, she had given him and began to strum the first chord of his song, he felt his palms shake. “I don’t want a lot for Christmas, there is just one thing I need…”
Y/N couldn’t stop smiling the entire time he serenaded her. When he had finally finished, he got down on one knee and Y/N gasped. “Baby, all I want for Christmas is you for the rest of my life. I love waking up with you and going to bed with you and I would love it even more if you were my wife. I would love to wake up to Mrs. Mendes instead of Miss L/N. It has a better ring to it anyway. I told myself I wasn’t going to ramble, but here I am. Will you marry me?”
Her eyes glossed over with tears as she leaned forward to kiss him with all her might. He smiled into the kiss placing the ring on her finger and wrapping her up in a hug. “Yes, yes! I love, I love you, I love you! I can’t believe you wrote a song for me. Are you ever going to publish it?”
“Nope, it was just for you.” And he sent her a small wink. “Merry Christmas darling.”

Day 7–It’s Not December First! (25 Days of Ficmas)
A/N: Hope you enjoy
Tumblr media
Y/N and Shawn were very best friends. They met in middle school and instantly cliqued. They both enjoyed the art and sounds of music. In fact, Y/N was the one who taught Shawn to play the piano and in turn he taught her how to play the guitar.
When Shawn first got famous on Vine, Y/N was the first to hype him up and congratulate him about it. She would occasionally make appearances in his YouTube and Vine videos as backup vocals or instrumentals. But overall, she didn’t like being in the limelight. She even helped Shawn write some of his first songs, providing him with good lyrics and beats.
When he got invited to travel with the MAGCON boys he made sure to bid Y/N a proper goodbye with a kiss to her lips. It was a soft peck, and she didn’t think anything of it. It was a simple goodbye. But Aaliyah had thought otherwise having seen the whole thing go down.
“Did he just kiss you?!” She said as Shawn walked to security, waving goodbye to the two. Y/N didn’t notice the light blush that tinted his cheeks.
“I…yes? But it wasn’t like that. He just was giving me a friendly goodbye.”
“Hmm, ok,” Aaliyah smirked.
Shawn and Y/N had facetimed every night he was gone at MAGCON. Shawn seemed to like it, but he longed for more. He loved the boys but thought their performances were kind of a joke. So, he decided to return home two months later, missing Y/N and his family more than anything.
The second he saw Y/N standing there at the airport, he pulled her into a hug and kissed her lips lightly again. He seemed to not register what he had done until Aaliyah was nudging him and raising her eyebrows at the two. “Did something happen over facetime with you two that I missed?”
“No, no. I’m so sorry Y/N. I don’t know what I was thinking. I think I just got too excited to see you.”
She grabbed his hand. “Shawn, it’s fine. People in other countries do it as a greeting all the time. I mean it was a little weird but if that is how you want to greet me from now on, no complaints,” she chuckled.
“Are you subtly trying to hint at me that you liked that kiss, and you would like me to do it again,” his corny self-asked. He was genuinely scared she would reject him.
“Maybe.” She said with a smirk.
“Good, because that is what I was hoping you were going to say.” And he pulled her into another kiss. This time it was longer than a peck and he wrapped his arms around her waist while hers were around his neck.
“I’ve waited a while for that.”
“Me too. Sorry it took me so long.”
And so, their love story began. With the help of Y/N as his muse, Shawn was able to write an entire album. He was discovered by Andrew Gertler, a manager at Island Records, and was signed with them. Y/N couldn’t have been prouder.
They somehow were able to balance their relationship through three world tours and the two were going strong. In fact, they had just recently moved in with each other.
Y/N loved Shawn with all her heart, but ever since they had moved in with each other, she had found little things that he did that annoyed her. Like how he would always leave his clothes on the bedroom floor until the end of the week. Or how he never cleaned his toothpaste stains from out of the sink.
She also hated how he would put his clothes on her side of the closet. He also watched shows with the subtitles on, which never bugged her when they weren’t living together, but constantly having it on their TV was really annoying.
It wasn’t that Shawn didn’t try to help her around the house because he did. But he was awful at laundry and frankly too busy to deal with it, so she was left with cleaning his laundry as well as hers. He often would come home from the studio exhausted and wouldn’t help with the dishes from dinner.
But he always tried to keep the living room clean and would help her deep clean the house every Saturday.
However, every one of these little things started to get on Y/N’s nerves. One Saturday night, she decided to go to the store and Shawn agreed to make dinner while she was there. When she came back from the store, she heard Christmas music playing and she was about to lose her mind.
She liked Christmas music, just not before December 1st. And it was only November 26th. And to top it all off, it had been snowing really hard and so she was already on edge. She placed the groceries on the counter and folded her arms, staring at him.
They had hardly ever gotten into big fights the entirety of their relationship, but Y/N could feel something brewing inside of her.
“What the hell is up with the Christmas music?! You know my rule. Turn it off please.”
“Y/N c’mon. You weren’t home. But please can we still listen to it. It’s so close to December and I’m dying over here,” he said as he sauteed the chicken.
“Yea well I’m dying over doing your piles of laundry that you bring to me on Saturdays because you leave it on the floor in our room until today. And I’m also sick of having to make dinner and doing the dishes while you go off to our at-home studio or to make a call. I’m getting so tired of it.”
Shawn was taken aback. He had no idea where this fight was coming from. “Y/N, why haven’t you told me that those things bothered you?”
“Because it’s common sense. I don’t want a messy room, we’re not little kids anymore, we can clean up after ourselves. And I just want one night where you don’t wander off after dinner and leave me to clean it all up. What about a 50/50 relationship!”
“This is a 50/50 relationship! Is it not?! I go to work and pay for the house and you’re schooling, and you clean up around here! It actually is more of an 80/20 relationship. I am paying all the bills after all.”
Y/N felt her heart drop. He had never insulted her like that, “You pay the bills because you told me to quit my job. You said it wasn’t a big deal and you wanted to provide for me like a husband does for their wife. Plus, it’s not like my 12 dollar an hour job was helping pay for anything with the millions of dollars you rack in every year! You’re right! I’m more like a maid to you than anything and you’re paying me with this house!”
She turned on her heels and stormed off to the guest bedroom. She didn’t want to be in a room where she was reminded of him everywhere. She locked the door and curled up under the covers crying. A few seconds later, she heard soft knocking.
“Y/N, baby that’s not what I meant,” she could hear the regret dripping through his voice, but she didn’t care. She stayed silent and he sighed. “Baby please,” he banged his head against the door and slid his back down it until he was sitting on the floor. Shawn got up shortly after, but before he left, he said, “I’m going to finish dinner so our house doesn’t burn down.” He put an emphasis on our and walked away.
Y/N snuck out of the guest room quietly and went to their bedroom to change into her pajamas. Then she scurried back across the hall to the guest bedroom. She heard a knocking at the door once again and Shawn tried to turn the doorknob. “Go away Shawn.”
“Y/N, I have dinner for you. I…I’ll leave it here. I’m going to get in some pajamas. I’ll be back in a second.”
As she heard his footsteps fade, she grabbed the plate he had left out for her and sighed. She wasn’t trying to make him feel bad, but he really hurt her feelings.
He came back a few minutes later and she heard something soft hitting the ground and decided to peek under the door. She saw a pillow and a blanket and almost wanted to let him in. He was going to spend the night outside the guest bedroom.
“Shawn,” she stood up and unlocked the door, walking out into the hallway. He immediately lifted his head from the pillow and his eyes were swollen and red.
“Y/N baby. I’m sorry. I just feel like all we’ve been doing since we moved in has been fighting and I don’t know what to do to fix it. I know it’s wrong of me to expect so much from you when you also have a full day of school. From now on I’ll do my laundry and the dishes.”
She pulled him into a hug and chuckled. “No, no. I don’t need you to do your laundry. You will definitely break something or ruin your clothes. Maybe putting them in the laundry basket I gave you would be nice. But if you could help with dinner or the dishes each night, I would greatly appreciate it.”
“Of course, honey. But only if I can have my subtitles on and we can listen to Christmas music before December 1st.”
Y/N rolled her eyes. “Fine, but only because I love you. Alexa, play Christmas music.”
A huge smile adorned Shawn’s face as he pulled her to the living where they danced to Christmas songs the whole night.

Day 6–I Hate You (25 Days of Ficmas)
Summary: Y/N and Shawn are rivals
A/N: This is so bad lol
Tumblr media
Y/N and Shawn had grown up as neighbors their whole lives. Their parents were best friends which meant that Shawn and Y/N spent almost every Sunday of their lives eating dinner together.
At first it started out as a friendship. But as Shawn and Y/N started to get older, it turned into a rivalry. Shawn and Y/N were very close in age, and they were always in the same class in school. It became very apparent that both Y/N and Shawn were academically gifted and that caused them to be enemies.
Since the first grade, they competed over who would be the teacher’s favorite, who got a higher score on their test, who had more friends (although both seemed to always have overlapping friend groups), who got better grades, and in high school, who took harder classes, and who would be the valedictorian. They both ended up being the valedictorian that year seeing that their weighted GPAs were tied.
They also competed over romance. Who had the hotter date to the dance, who had dated more people, who had kissed more people, who had been on more dates. It got so bad that people quit dating both of them all together because they thought they were being used to help boost Y/N or Shawn in their competition.
Y/N had eventually found a boyfriend her senior year of high school. And despite Shawn trying to sabotage it so Y/N wouldn’t be ahead of him, it was a wonderful relationship. His name was Ethan. He was attractive and smart. Not as smart as Shawn, but he wasn’t stupid. He had blonde hair and a nice smile. He treated Y/N like a queen. And even though Y/N hated Shawn, Ethan tried his best to get along with him. He knew that Shawn wasn’t going out of Y/N’s life anytime soon, so he had to find a way to work around him.
Ethan had a special talent for getting under Shawn’s skin. He hated how nice he was to everyone and made Y/N feel like the most special girl in the world. And secretly, he was jealous of how close the two were. Even though him and Y/N were in a rivalry, they both knew the other better than anyone else. And even though they acted like they hated each other, they really were just scared of the feelings they had developed for the other.
One day, Shawn got so fed up with hearing Y/N brag about her and Ethan’s relationship that he approached her at her locker. She pulled her books out and Shawn closed her locker, leaning against it and smiling at her. “I asked a Brianna Peters out today.” Brianna Peters was the cheer captain at their school. She was insanely pretty, and every guy wanted her.
Y/N furrowed her eyebrows. He seemed so smug about it. “That sucks.”
“Why?”
“Well, I mean she definitely said no.”
“Actually, she said yes.” Y/N’s mouth dropped open in surprise. There was no way she had told him yes. Despite her surprise, she had to act nonchalant.
“Well sucks for her then.” She started to walk away but Shawn pulled her back into him by her wrist and pressed his lips to hers. She immediately shoved away but couldn’t deny that she felt a tiny spark shoot through her. “What the hell Shawn?!”
He pointed his finger to something behind her and she saw Ethan staring at the two of them, a sad look on his face. He started to turn away from the pair and walk quickly down halls. She turned back to see Shawn with a smirk on his face. “You son of a bitch!” She shoved him and ran after Ethan.
“Ethan! Ethan!” He finally turned around and she almost bumped into him. He had tears in his eyes, and he wiped them away with his hand.
“I…I think we should break up. I don’t even know what to say.”
“No, no. Please don’t do this. I love you,” she choked on a sob. “You know how he is. He loves to ruin my life. He saw you behind me and is trying to ruin our relationship. Please…you saw how fast I pulled away.”
“Y/N,” he sighed. “I really tried to get over whatever is going on between you two, but I really can’t do it anymore. You need to figure out how you feel about him. You may think you love me, but I see the way you look at each other. You don’t hate on another. Good luck,” and just like that, he turned and walked away.
That Sunday night at dinner, Y/N excused herself and asked to speak with Shawn privately. They walked into a hallway where no one could hear them, and Y/N slapped Shawn’s chest. “Are you happy?! Ethan and I broke up. I…I hope it was worth it. I didn’t think you would take it this far but screw you! Never talk to me again.” She walked away from him, and he vowed to himself to never hurt her like that again. He also agreed to her wish and didn’t talk to her unless it was absolutely necessary.
And then they both went to college. And came back home for Christmas break unbeknownst to the other.
Y/N was disappointed to see that her parents hadn’t hung up Christmas lights and she saw that the Mendes’ also hadn’t hung up their lights. The day after she got home, she spent putting up Christmas lights. And that night, she was pissed to see that the Mendes’ had also put-up lights and they were better than hers. She couldn’t let Shawn’s parents have a better display then her.
So, the next day, she bought blow-up Christmas figures to put on her front lawn. And while she was inflating them, she heard an awful sound. Shawn’s voice. “Trying to beat my Christmas display aye?”
She rolled her eyes. “Oh joy, you’re home for the holidays too. Well, my display will be better than yours. Just you wait.”
Y/N and Shawn’s Christmas display rivalry went on for another week. Until one day when Y/N was putting plastic reindeers on her roof she slipped and fell. But instead of falling into the snow, Shawn was right beneath her to catch her. He wrapped her in his arms and cradled her head against his chest. She started to cry and buried her head into his chest.
"Shh, you’re safe. Y/N I’m so sorry. And not just for making you try to compete with me over this dumb Christmas light display, but for everything. Our whole rivalry. I knew I messed up when Ethan broke up with you, but it was too far gone at that point. Please forgive me. Holy shit, I almost lost you,” at this point he was also crying.
She hugged him and they both cried as he set her down and hugged each other. “This whole rivalry was so stupid. I don’t hate you, Shawn. I never have.”
“I don’t hate you either. And about the whole Ethan thing, I couldn’t stand the girl I was in love with dating another guy.”
“You were in love with me?”
“Still am. And I’m so glad I caught you.”
“I love you too.” And they interlocked lips in a passionate kiss.
As they pulled away, they swore they would never let their rivalry get past a friendly banter again.
A/N: The ending is awful, but it’s late and I really don’t see this getting any better. It had so much potential, but I have too much writer’s block. Haha. Feedback is very appreciated. Thank you for reading!

Shawn and Y/N had been secretly dating for six months. They had known each other for five years now but had stayed friends. They first met when they were both opening acts for Austin Mahone. Y/N and Shawn instantly clicked, but despite the rumors, they were nothing more than friends.
Except for on those late nights that seemed to happen every couple of times they got together. When they both got too tired to think properly. And cuddling turned into kissing passionately on the couch while a movie played in the background. Both tooscared to admit what had happened the night before in fear of ruining something.
It started after they were 18 and Y/N had gotten her own apartment. Before that they liked to claim they were strictly friends, but everyone could see the chemistry they had. Even James Corden who had asked about it when they were promoting their new song, I Know What You Did Last Summer.
They should’ve realized it as their bodies were pressed together on the couch. She should’ve known when he placed his arm behind her head. He should’ve known when she leaned into him, feeling a little nervous with the crowd being so big. They should’ve known it when the fans were surprised they weren’t together. But the fans knew there was something there before they did.
“The fans want to know if you two are together. So, care to give us an answer,” James had said.
“No, no. That would be weird, he’s like a brother to me,” Y/N had instantly denied, not noticing the hurt that flashed on Shawn’s face. Little did he know that she was only denying it so she wouldn’t have to hear him do it.
“Really?! There is no way you two haven’t made out.”
“We haven’t actually,” Shawn said turning his body towards her now.
“Why?!”
“Every time I go in for the move, she swerves me. And did you not just hear her say I was like her brother?”
“Oh, so you have made a move, but she friend zones you,” James stated raising his eyebrows at them.
“Oh yea! I’ve totally made a move, but I don’t think it’s going happen,” he tried to play it off, but the fans could tell he was hurt by it.
“Hey! He’s the one who friend zones! He calls me kid!”
“Ok let’s get to the bottom of this.”
They both let out a groan. “No, we’re kidding James! We’re not together!” They both tried to argue.
“You’re both being very defensive. So let me get this straight: Shawn is saying that when he leans in, you say no. But you’re saying—”
“He’s never leaned in,” she laughed.
“Well, it sounds to me like you both are in love but are too shy to say it.”
“You also think we’ve both made out, but we haven’t.”
“There is no way you two haven’t made out!”
“James! Stop it! We haven’t!” Both of their faces were bright red now.
“I just love watching your faces. But anyways, I don’t care what you say, you two definitely have something going on. Stay tuned for the amazing performance that will be coming up by these two.”
Y/N and Shawn stood from the couch giving James a hug and rolling their eyes at him as they both walked off the stage.
*****
That night as they lay in Shawn’s hotel room, they could feel the tension. There was something unsaid between the two of them—an elephant in the room if you will. And as they watched the movie play out before them, they couldn’t help but look over at the other.
And then suddenly they were locking lips for the first time, and it felt like a breath of fresh air for the both of them. Maybe, just maybe they could be something more after this night. But in the morning, Y/N wasn’t in the bed and Shawn had assumed she didn’t want to talk. So, he got up and dressed himself for the day.
And when Y/N came out of the bathroom, she was disappointed when Shawn acted like nothing had happened.
This pattern continued for a few months until Y/N got a boyfriend. Just when Shawn had written a song to confess his love for her. He was going to fly out and sing it to her and everything. He was a very handsome and boyfriend too. Who could travel with her because of his flexible job. And unlike Shawn, she was able to see him for most days of the year.
So, Shawn and Y/N became distant. They still talked and would wave when they saw each other, but they weren’t as close as they once had been. And Shawn never told her about the song he wrote for her. Or that most of his songs were written about her.
Until one day when Shawn couldn’t hold it back anymore. He went to one of Y/N’s shows in Canada. Her boyfriend hadn’t been able to attend this particular one which gave Shawn the perfect opportunity to tell her. He had decided that he either was going to watch her be in love with someone else or try to win her over.
She had run off the stage and pulled him into a hug, kissing his cheek and thanking him for being there. And when they got back to the hotel, Shawn had invited her to his room. She had to admit it felt a little wrong being alone with him after everything, but she knew that he wouldn’t try anything. He didn’t think of her as anything more than a make out buddy.
“How are you, Shawn? It’s been a hot minute.”
“I’m doing ok. How are you and Matthew?” The name hurt to say.
“We’re great,” she cleared her throat. “I saw you went to the Met Gala with Hailey Baldwin. She looked gorgeous. Are you two dating?”
He swallowed his spit. “We had a fling. It didn’t work out. We both were caught up on other people.”
“Hmm. She still loves Justin huh?”
Shawn nodded. It was now or never. “Yea. And I still love you.”
Y/N audibly gasped, her heart rapidly pounding in her chest. It was the words she had been longing to hear for as long as she knew him. But they came at the wrong time. Her and Matthew had been dating for one year now and while she did love Shawn, she wanted to see where things would go with her and Matthew.
“I…woah. Umm, I had no idea you felt this way about me.”
Shawn closed his eyes before looking back up at her only to see her eyes filled with pity. “Remember the James Corden Show?” He chuckled a little to relieve the tension. “When he said that we were in love, I couldn’t help but believe him. Because I loved you even back then and some stupid part of me hoped you loved me.”
“Shawn…I—”
“You know every song I’ve written has been about you. And I know that some part of you must feel the same way about me. I tried to deny it all these years, but you wouldn’t have kissed me the way you did that night if you didn’t have some sort of feelings for me.”
“Please…Matthew is so perfect for me. I can’t—”
“Do you love him?! Did you ever love me?!”
“Yes! Yes, I loved you! Yes, I hoped we would be something more, but I have Matthew and I really love him,” she sobbed. “So please, don’t ruin this friendship over some feelings.” A tear fell down her beautiful cheek and he wanted to wipe it away. But he refrained. He felt a stab of pain in his heart.
“They aren’t just feelings to me Y/N! I’m in love with you! Gosh I’m so in love with you! I…I wrote a song for us. To sing. If you felt the same way about me. And I’m not trying to be a homewrecker, but I think deep down you feel the same,” Shawn threw some sheet music on the floor. “Call me if you change your mind. But until then, I really don’t think I can bear talking to you and not having you feel the same. It’s not fair to either of us.” And he left the room just like that.
The next few weeks were rough for Y/N. She had an internal battle going on. She did love Matthew, she really did. But did she love him more than she loved Shawn? He was older than her. Almost by 12 years. Her being 20 and him being 32.
“Y/N are you ok? You’ve been acting so differently lately.”
“I—Matthew. I don’t know. I’m so sorry. When Shawn came to my show a few weeks ago he planted this idea in my head that me and him are in love and I can’ stop thinking about it. Even though I know I love you.”
Matthew sighed. “I am a relationship guru,” he chuckled. “It is my job. And I…I was naïve to think that you were over him. I saw the way the two of you looked at each other. But I selfishly thought I could win you over. But even I can’t beat love.”
“Matthew I—”
“Don’t feel sorry for me. Please. Just, but happy with him,” He reached into her bed side drawer and pulled out the sheet music. “The song will be beautiful with your voice in it. Goodbye,” and he planted a chaste kiss on her lips, leaving her there wondering what to do.
*****
The next day, Y/N had picked up her phone and dialed Shawn. Who answered on the first ring. “Hello,” he whispered breathlessly into the speaker.
“I wish I could pretend I didn’t need you, but I can’t. Me and Matt broke up.”
“What does that mean,” he questioned tentatively, still not getting his hopes up.
“It means that I love you. I have for a while and I’m ready to sing the duet.”
So, Y/N and Shawn spent weeks recording the song and perfecting it. Weeks where they stole glances at each other, but never did anything about it. They had talked the first day in the studio about what their relationship would look like from there on out. Y/N wanted time to make sure she was fully over Matt before diving in with Shawn. He was prepared to wait as long asit took for her.
Finally, one day after filming a steamy scene for their music video, Y/N had pulled Shawn aside. “I know it’s taken me a while, but I’m finally ready.” Shawn couldn’t contain the smile on his face as he pulled her in for a short kiss and released his arms from around her waist.
“Is it alright if I take you on a date first. I want to do this properly. I know everything is kind of backwards, but I would love to show you how I’ll be like as a boyfriend.”
She nudged her nose against his as butterflies pooled in her stomach. “Give me a time and a date and I’ll be waiting for you.”
Shawn had never felt more nervous in his life than when he was on his way to Y/N’s hotel to pick her up for their date. Not when he had first gotten on that stage and there were millions of people looking back at him. Not even when he had told Y/N he loved her.
There date was in a private place, away from the paparazzi. Shawn had taken her on a hike into the mountains where they had a picnic and sunbathed in the warm June air.
And the night was spent stargazing after Shawn had set up a tent for the two to spend the night in. One night turned into a week and the two had to finally head back down the mountain for their release party of Senorita. Otherwise, they would’ve stayed there forever, basking in the others love and warmth.
Almost two weeks after that, Shawn had asked Y/N to be his girlfriend.
*****
Now six months later, they stood backstage, waiting to perform their new duet. The fans had their suspicions that Y/N and Shawn had been dating, but the two had been very careful and made sure to keep it on the down low. Y/N had joined Shawn on tour but would hide backstage to keep the rumors to a minimum. Tonight, they were planning on telling the world about their love for each other.
“Just breathe babe. The fans already ship us. And no matter what happens out there, you should know that I love you and that’s not going to change. And if you really don’t want to go through with it, rub your nose against mine and I’ll know.”
Y/N nodded her head, softly kissing his lips before she walked out onto the stage, Shawn following close behind with his guitar in tow.
They sang the song beautifully and Y/N couldn’t help the butterflies that appeared in her stomach as the song got closer and closer to the end. And when Shawn leaned in, she didn’t hesitate to let him place his libs on hers and pull her into a loving kiss as the audience went wild.
*****
“We’re back on the James Corden Show with Shawn Mendes and Y/N L/N. But unlike a few years ago, they are together now. I would just like to say that I told you so,” he laughed as Y/N and Shawn cuddled up on the couch.
“You know James, that night we really weren’t lying when we said we hadn’t made out. But actually, funny story. Later that night we decided to test it out and that was our first kiss.”
“You’re joking?!”
“No, Shawn’s telling the truth. But we didn’t get together until July of this year. We were more than friends in December, but we were taking it slow. I had just gotten out of my relationship with Matt, and the whole thing was crazy.”
“So, you’re telling me that if I would’ve had you on my show a night later, the answer to my make out question would’ve been, yes?!”
Shawn and Y/N both nodded.
“Well, you heard it here first folks. Shawn and his Senorita, Y/N have been in love for years. Make sure to tune back in to hear these two sing their knew duet.”

Day 5–You’re Dumb (25 Days of Ficmas)
Summary: Reader is pregnant and Shawn is dumb
Warnings: Swear Words
Tumblr media
Everyone could agree that there was not a better couple than Shawn and Y/N. Y/N made fun of Shawn’s klutziness while Shawn made fun of Y/N’s inability to cook. So, when Shawn proposed to Y/N, there was no surprise.
Y/N had always wanted to be a December bride. They had gotten engaged in August and arranged their wedding to be set on December second. It was a beautiful snowy day and Y/N looked dropped dead gorgeous. Shawn had sworn to Y/N that he wouldn’t cry when she walked down the aisle, but as soon as he heard ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love with You,’ start to play on the piano, tears fell down his face.
And when Y/N’s dad placed her hand in his he brought it up to his lips and kissed it. “I love you so much baby. I can’t wait to marry you.”
“Then stop talking and let’s get a move on,” she said as she choked back a sob as well.
When they both had said ‘I do,’ they ran out of the chapel and into a horse drawn sleigh. Y/N had always said she wanted the perfect Hallmark ending and Shawn was determined to give it to her.
After their honeymoon, they settled down in Shawn’s condo in Toronto and he decided to take a six month break from making music. Y/N was an up-and-coming author and Shawn wanted to spend as much time with her as he could.
But after only three months of marriage, Y/N had started to notice that she was getting morning sickness. After taking a pregnancy test, she found out they were pregnant. Shawn and Y/N couldn’t have been more excited.
Eventually Shawn had to go back to work, but he would do his best to wrap things up at the studio as fast as he could. He tried to get Y/N her dinner at a decent time. Y/N was fine with making herself ramen noodles or macaroni since she was a terrible cook, but Shawn insisted on making her dinner every night.
Their one-year anniversary was approaching, and they were trying to get their house decorated before Y/N had the baby which was due on the fourth of December. So, Y/N and Shawn had spent the weeks after Halloween leading up to December prepping for a baby and for Christmas.
One of their last items on their list was to get a tree. They decided they were going to go to a tree farm and cut their own one down. They wanted to start their own Christmas traditions. Since it was the first day of December, they thought it was very fitting to go pick a tree.
“You ready to go babe?” He smiled as his very pregnant wife came waddling down the hallway wearing one of his hoodies that used to drown her, but now fit perfectly over her large bump.
“Yep. Let me just put on my shoes.”
“Here, I got it honey. Don’t you dare move a muscle.” He bent down on the ground and picked up one Ugg, lifting her foot into the boot. He repeated the process with the other foot and kissed both her kneecaps gently.
“Thanks Hubbie.” Shawn would always get so flustered when she called him that name, but he couldn’t deny that he loved it.
He helped her into her seat in the car and held her hand the whole ride to the tree farm. He kept stealing glances at her and would kiss her cheek at every red light.
Shawn had been extra lovey dovey since he found out she was pregnant. It seemed that the two hadn’t left their honeymoon phase and probably would never leave it. They were two deeply in love with each other
Y/N hissed as a sharp pain went into her abdominal. Shawn immediately looked over at his wife while she tried to push his chin back towards the windshield, so his eyes were on the road. “I’m fine, it’s just a contraction. It’ll pass in a few seconds.” But it didn’t feel like one of her regular contractions, it felt worse.
“Are you sure? With it being so close to your due date I’m a little nervous about it.” While Shawn had a point, Y/N really wanted to have her Christmas decorating done by the time the baby came. All they had left to do was the tree. She was not going to let this contraction stop that.
“Yea, promise.” She breathed out a sigh of relief when she felt the contraction was over just as Shawn pulled into the parking lot of the tree farm. He rushed over to her side of the door to help her down from his Jeep and placed his arm around her waist to stabilize her. “Thank you honey.” She laid her head on his shoulder and wrapped her arm around his waist, interlocking the two together so they walked in sync.
They walked around for a little bit looking for a tree. They seemed to have varying ideas on what they wanted. Shawn wanted a tall and wide tree while Y/N was okay with a smaller one.
“Babe, we have to get it on to your car and through our front door. I’m not sure it could fit if it was that wide,” she would laugh at him.
“But Y/N, look at it. It’s so green and perfect. C’mon, please.”
“Shawn, I’m not even sure that would fit in our house. I don’t even know if the ceiling is that tall. Plus, do you really want your pregnant wife trying to haul that thing into the house.”
“Well, no, but what if I promised to do it all by myself.”
Y/N raised her eyebrows at him. “If you can cut it down and tie it to the car without assistance, we can get it. But I’m still not too certain about if it’s going to fit.”
“Oh, it’ll fit babe.” He kissed the top of her head as he walked over to an attendant to get a saw and some rope. He came back with a smile on his face and knelt to cut the tree.
Y/N winced as she felt another contraction coming on. It was unusual for them to come this closely together. Her gut told her that she was about to go into labor, but she pushed it aside. Just a few more hours baby. Let me and dad get this tree set up. Then you can come. She thought.
When they finally got home, Y/N stood inside their doorway and tried to guide Shawn the best she could on how to get the tree through the door. Once he finally got it into the living room and stood it up, the top of the tree was bent over because it was too tall. Y/N sent Shawn a glare.
“See? I told you,” She laughed at him and then smiled.
“Hey, you were right. But I still think it’s the perfect tree. It’s unique and special. Plus, how many people can say they have a tree that looks like this?”
She shook her head at him. “You are really, really stupid. Like you’re so dumb.”
He scoffed. “Hey, how dare you insult the person that got you this tree and set it up all by himself.”
“Umm hello. What about the person who is carrying your child.”
“Fine. You won,” He walked over to her and pulled her into his arms, laying his head in the crook of his neck.
She felt a sharp stab and cried out pulling away from Shawn as water splashed on the floor and she felt like she peed her pants. She started to lose her stability, but Shawn caught herand picked her up, laying her down on the couch.
“Oh my gosh! Your water just broke. Ok, breathe Shawn.” He talked to himself and ran to their bedroom as Y/N lay on the couch trying to control her breathing. She was scared as hell to have this baby, but she knew it would be fine with Shawn by her side. He came back into the room with a change of clothes for her and their hospital bags in tow. “Here, let me you get you out of these wet clothes.”
He helped her sit up and take his hoodie off, trading it for one of his jumpers. He pulled off her leggings, replaced her underwear with his boxers (she liked men’s underwear better anyways), and helped her push her legs through a pair of one of his grey sweatpants.
He kissed her sweaty forehead and brushed the hair out her face, pulling it into a bun on the top of her head. “I’m going to clean this water off the floor and call your and my parents. You just lay there and look pretty, alright,” he sent her a soft smile, trying to calm her nerves and his own at the same time.
He went to the linen closet and pulled out an older towel dialing your mom. Your parents lived in California and said they were going to take the soonest available flight that they could. They didn’t know if they would make it on time, but they were going to try.
Shawn’s fingers shook as he cleaned the water from the floor and called his mom. “Hey mom. Y/N’s water just broke. We’re headed to the hospital if you guys want to meet us there…Yea, she’s been having contractions all day…I’m not sure how dilated she is mom, we’re not at the doctor’s yet…ok…will do…love you mom.” He hung up the phone, threw the towel in the laundry and loaded the car with all the things they would need for the hospital.
“Shall we go,” he questioned her. She nodded her head and softly smiled at him. She tried to get up, but Shawn stopped her. “Absolutely not. You are in labor. Let me carry you to the car.”He placed his hand under her knees, and she wrapped her arm around his neck as he carried her to the passenger side of his Range Rover.
*****
A few hours later, Y/N was laying on a bed in the delivery room, doctors hovering around her. She was covered in sweat and tears and was grasping Shawn’s hand so hard he thought she was going to break it. “Ice chip, Shawn! Ice chip!”
He reached inside of the cup and placed an ice chip in her mouth. “Holy shit! This hurts so bad!”
“You’re almost there Mrs. Mendes. Just a few more pushes and then the head will be out.”
“You’re doing so well baby. I love you. Think of that beautiful baby boy that is going to come out of you. I hope he has your eyes,” he whispered in her ear while popping another ice chip into her mouth.
“Deep breaths Mrs. Mendes. That’s it. Come on. I can see the head. One big push right here and the baby should pop right out.”
She squeezed Shawn’s hand and cried out. But her cry was overpowered by the crying of their newborn baby. “You did it honey. I’m so proud of you.”
“Mr. Mendes, would you like to cut the umbilical cord?”
Shawn looked at his wife to see if it was okay for him to leave her side for a moment and she nodded. Her face was red with the effort it took her, but Shawn thought she looked so beautiful. Shawn cut the cord and the nurses wrapped the baby boy up in a blanket. He walked over to Y/N cradling his baby in his arms and gently laying him down on her chest.
The crying came to a small little whimper as Y/N held her baby. She kissed its head before handing it to the nurse who was waiting to start its first bath and immunizations. “You’ll see him soon mom and dad,” the nurse said taking their baby boy to the nursery.
“You did so well baby. He’s so beautiful. And he does have your eyes.” He kissed his wife’s forehead and wiped her hair from her face.
“We’re going to wheel your wife into a patient room where the rest of your family can visit you guys. We’ll give you a briefing on how to breastfeed the baby and how to hold it. Can we have you just walk alongside us to make it easier to maneuver her around?”
Shawn nodded and followed them as they wheeled her into another room. Soon after, Shawn’s parents and Aaliyah entered the room quietly. Y/N was lying in a bed and Shawn was sitting next to her holding her hand in both of his. He was whispering sweet nothings to her as softly smiled at him. They both turned to look at their visitors.
“How do you feel?” Karen asked.
“Like crap.” They both chuckled. “How did you have both Shawn and Aaliyah. That was hell just having one.”
Karen smiled at her. “I thought I was going to stop at Shawn, but you forget how painful it really is. Don’t worry, once your baby gets a little older, you’ll both be hit by baby fever again.”
“Have you guys gone and seen him in the nursery yet? Is he doing well?” Y/N questioned her in-laws.
“He looks like a healthy beautiful baby. What are you guys planning on naming him,” Aaliyah asked as she walked closer to Y/N.
“We’ve thought of a few names. But I think we’re going to name him Peter, Pete for short. After Shawn’s middle name. Peter Shawn Mendes has a ring to it I think,” Y/N replied smiling at her husband. Karen and Manny smiled at the two, honored that they were keeping the family names.
A nurse entered the room a few minutes later, bringing their baby in with her. “We’re going to teach her how to breastfeed. If you guys could please leave the room to give her some privacy,” the nurse said to Shawn’s family. She placed Peter in Y/N’s arms and helped her pull down the top of her hospital gown.
“Thanks for listening to me Pete. That’s something your daddy struggles with.”
Shawn furrowed his eyebrows at her. “He literally just got born. How is he a better listener than me?”
Y/N smirked at him. “When you were cutting the tree, I knew I was probably going to have Petey in the next day or so. I just kept thinking that we needed to set up the tree first. And literally a few minutes after it was all done, my water broke. Looks like you need to teach your dad some lessons.” She laughed and Shawn rolled his eyes at her as he stroked Peter’s tiny foot with his thumb.

Day 4–The Singing Barista (25 Days of Ficmas)
A/N: Thanks for reading! Requests are open
Summary: Reader is a barista that sings every time she gets a tip
Warnings: Swear Words
Tumblr media
Y/N was a college student struggling to pay her tuition and her student loan. She was majoring in business and minoring in English so to say she was tired was an understatement. On top of it all, she wasn’t too fond of the holidays. She thought it was just a cash grab and that Christmas music all sounded the same.
On top of it all, this was the third Christmas since she graduated that she hadn’t had a boyfriend to bring home to her family Christmas party. It was getting to be a little annoying having Grandma Helen pester her the whole time about how she would only remain young for so long. And that it would be too late to start a family if she didn’t start soon.
She would roll her eyes at her comments, but deep down she felt disappointed that she hadn’t been able to scoop up a guy for her whole college experience. And don’t get me wrong, she had been on plenty of dates, they just hadn’t gone anywhere from there.
All the college boys wanted was a party girl and Y/N was just not into that. She tried her best to do well in school and get good grades. If she was going to be paying for it, she might as well go to class and do well in it.
She lived in a dorm nearby campus and hated her roommates. They were obnoxious and constantly broke the rules. They had had the RA called on them multiple times, but her roommates didn’t give a shit. And even though Y/N didn’t participate in their underage drinking, she was still blamed for it. If they were caught drinking illegally one more time, they would be kicked out of their dorm and the school. And then Y/N would have nowhere to go.
You see, the college she went to was very small and it accepted very few people so there was hardly any housing. By now, most of the houses had been filled with all their roommates. And no one she knew owned a dorm that had available space. And she was not going to be with random roommates again because she couldn’t stand getting in trouble with the school another time.
All those factors compiled together made it really hard for her to want to go to work at the coffee shop. It was a high paying job on campus, so it saved her gas money, but there was only one problem. They had to sing anytime they got a tip. And since it was Christmas, Y/N had to sing a Christmas carol. She almost quit when her boss told her they would be switching to Christmas music, but she really needed the money.
Y/N came home from a long shift and saw the RA standing outside their room with the headmaster of the school. He sighed and looked over at Y/N. “Miss L/N, may I speak to you privately please?” Y/N nodded and followed him down the hall. She knew this couldn’t be good.
“Sir, I wasn’t a part of this. I was at work, I promise.”
“I know, I believe you. It has come to my attention that your roommates were the ones violating the rules,” he paused, and Y/N sighed. “However, due to your roommates being kicked off the campus, you will no longer be able to stay in this dorm. We do not allow students to own a dorm all to themselves. You will need to find another one come Monday. Is that alright with you?” The headmaster looked down on her with piercing blue eyes and she gulped and nodded. “Good. I’m so sorry for this inconvenience Miss L/N. The school has booked you a hotel room for the night while we get this sorted out. Please collect anything you need for the night, and we will have a campus officer take you to the hotel.”
Y/N nodded her head and turned to go inside her dorm to pack up the rest of her stuff. On the way back in, she saw her drunk roommates laughing as they were getting arrested by two policemen. She sighed and went to her room to grab her things.
*****
25 minutes later and Y/N was in the back of a campus officer’s police car on her way to a Marriot just down the road. Her backpack full of things lay at her feet and she stared out the window. What was she going to do? She had no living arrangements now and she had to have them figured out by Monday.
The officer dropped her off at the lobby of the hotel and wished her luck. She was able to get checked in and quickly walked to the elevator, wanting to get a good night’s rest before her shift at the coffee shop in the morning.
There was one other person in the elevator with her. He looked to be about her age with chocolate brown curly hair. He was wearing grey sweatpants and a white shirt that was tight around his massive biceps. “Which floor,” he questioned. Hell, even his voice was attractive.
“Tenth.” He pressed the number ten and stepped back.
“I’m staying on ten too. Hopefully we don’t make any stops—” Just as he said those words, the elevator stopped at level two. The person who got on pressed the number 1 and the elevator began its descent back to the lobby.
Shawn glanced over at Y/N who chuckled lightly. He moved to stand next to her. “Guess I shouldn’t have jinxed it huh?”
Y/ N shook her head. “Yea. That was a bad idea.”
“So, where are you from?”
“I’m from the college just down the road, but my roommates are getting kicked out right now so I can’t be there.”
Shawn sucked in a breath of air. “Ooh that’s rough. I’m sorry.” Y/N waved him off with her hand. “I’m a student at that college too. Well, I will be. I’m starting on Monday. I’m from Canada so it was a long trip here and there just getting my housing settled.”
Y/N didn’t know what to do. Maybe he had room wherever he was housing at. But she was too shy to ask, especially since she just met him.
The elevator dinged and they had reached level ten. “What room are you at?”
“1018, you?”
“1019. Guess I’m right next to you.”
They walked to their rooms together making small talk and Y/N genuinely smiled for the first time that day.
“Well, night…” She trailed off not knowing his name.
“Shawn. And you?”
“Y/N.”
“Good night, Y/N. Sleep well. Good luck with the whole roommate situation.”
“Thanks. Maybe I’ll see you around campus.”
“Yea, see you around.”
She swiped her card and walked into her room. She quickly got ready for bed and fell asleep.
Shawn lay in the next room over beating himself up over not getting her number. She was so pretty, and they were both going to the same college. But Shawn decided he shouldn’t knock on her door and disturb her. She needed her sleep. If they were supposed to meet again, fate would bring them together.
*****
The next day Y/N was jolted awake by her alarm. She slammed the button down and rolled out of bed. Her eyes were a bit swollen with tiredness, but she would have to make do. She thought about Shawn as she pulled her hair into a bun and placed her hat over it. She really did hope she would seem him at their college. Or maybe even before then.
She the 15 minutes back to her campus and to the coffee shop. She put her apron on and got ready to serve the first costumers of the day. A lot of them would leave tips just to hear her sing and she had to pretend that she enjoyed torturing their ears with her off key singing.
It was ten in the morning, and she was already feeling drained. “Welcome, what can I get for you,” she said in a less than friendly manner to the customer without looking up from the cash register.
“Hi. Could I get a hot chocolate with whip cream on it. And I’d also like to know when you get off?”
Y/N glanced up recognizing that voice. It was Shawn from the elevator. She saw the smirk on his face, and she felt her cheeks go hot with embarrassment. “I am so sorry for talking to you like that.”
“Don’t sweat it. You’re stressed, I get it.”
She typed his order into the system, but Y/N decided to use her employee rewards and pay for it herself. “It’s on the house. You made my night a lot better so let me do this for you.”
She quickly made his drink and handed it to him. “What’s this?” He pointed to the tip jar and saw the sign that said, ‘Tip for me to sing a song.’
“Please don’t pay attention to that. You don’t need to tip me.”
“I know. But I would love to hear you sing.”
He placed the ten-dollar bill he was intending to pay with into the jar. Y/N sent him the evil eye and he chuckled.
“I’m not doing it.”
“Oh, but you have to. If you don’t, I’ll report you to your manager.”
Y/N groaned. “Which Christmas carol would you like?”
“Hmm. What about ‘All I want for Christmas is You?’”
“For real?” He nodded. “Fine.” Y/N burst into an awful sounding rendition of Mariah Carrie’s famous song and even Shawn was getting second-hand embarrassment for her.
“Ok, that’s enough,” he chuckled as she immediately stopped. “So, when do you get off?”
Y/N looked down at her watch. “Five minutes, why?”
“I was wondering if you could tour me around campus.”
Five minutes later and Y/N and Shawn were holding hands and walking through the crisp winter morning. “So, did you find a new place to live? Since you got kicked out and everything?”
“No. Unfortunately not.”
“Well, I’ve been thinking. You’re a pretty girl. And I’m not just doing this because your pretty, but what if I gave you the apartment I’m going to be staying at? I have some buddies who need a dorm mate, and I could easily live with them. You need it more than me.”
Y/N was appalled. “Shawn…I can’t let you do that.”
“Please, I insist. And hey, if we end up becoming better friends, I could always move back in.” He sent her a breathtaking smile.
“Well, I mean, I guess. Thank, thank you so much! You are a life saver!”
“Anything for you milady. Well, there is a cost.” He said with a coy smile on his face.
“I’ll pay anything, I’m just really grateful for you.”
“Ok. I just want your number and to go on a date with you. Last night after you went into your room, I debated knocking on your door and asking for it, but I thought it would be weird. Luckily, I found you.”
Y/N chuckled and typed in her phone number to Shawn’s phone.
“Thank you, my awful singer friend.”
“Wow, how dare you offend my singing.”
“You have to admit it was pretty bad.”
“Ok, you’re right.” Maybe she was a bad singer, but she might have found somebody to take home to her GrandmaHelen.

Day 3–Gingerbread Competition (25 Days of Ficmas)
A/N: Thanks for reading! Requests are open. If you want to be added to my taglist, PM me.
Summary: Shawn and Y/N have their annual Christmas competition and Shawn might have a surprise up his sleeve
Warnings: Swear Words
Tumblr media
“Mom, do you think this ring is good enough?” Shawn popped open the velvet box and Karen admired it.
“Honey, that ring is gorgeous. If anyone is going to know Y/N’s taste, it would be you. You’ve been with her for a year now. Plus, do you really think Y/N is going to say no if she doesn’t like the ring? You two can always go back in and exchange it for a different one.”
Shawn sighed. “I know, I just want everything to be perfect. I can’t mess this up.”
Karen laughed at her son. “This day will be perfect no matter if you mess up or not. She loves you, you love her. Everything will be fine in the end.”
“You’re right.”
“I know I am. Now go help your father get those gingerbread houses set up. And make sure you give Y/N the right one.” She patted his cheeks and sent him off to the dining room.
“Which one should be Y/N’s,” Manny asked his son as he gestured to all the premade gingerbread houses.
“Umm.” Shawn tried to find the perfect one for her and placed the ring inside the open slot for the door. He hid it in the corner so it wouldn’t be visible to her.
A few minutes later, the sound of laughter was heard throughout the house as Y/N and Aaliyah entered the house. Shawn rushed to greet his girlfriend and pulled her into a hug, kissing the side of her head.
“Hello to you too, Shawn,” she chuckled rubbing his back up and down. “When are we starting the competition?”
“In a few minutes. We have to wait for Dad to finish putting them together. You’re so going down Y/N.”
Every year, the Mendes family had a gingerbread competition. It was always split into two partnerships and the loser of the competition had to smash their gingerbread house. This year, it was Karen versus Manny. Aaliyah versus her boyfriend. And Shawn and Y/N versus each other. The way the winner was determined was through Instagram. One person from the pair of people would post a poll on their Instagram, and whoever got the most votes, won.
This year Shawn had a master plan to get Y/N to lose. Earlier in the day, he had told his followers via Instagram story to vote for the second of the two gingerbread houses which would be his. His followers didn’t know it was going to be his gingerbread house that they were voting for as the creator of the gingerbread house had to remain anonymous. Then, when Y/N lost, she would smash her gingerbread house and find the engagement ring. And then Shawn would propose to her.
And to keep this all hidden from Y/N, Aaliyah had taken her to the mall to go Christmas shopping. She tried to prevent Y/N from looking at her phone.
Shawn would’ve taken Y/N to a fancy restaurant to propose, but the annual gingerbread competition was a meaningful thing for the two. It had been their first date.
Shawn and Y/N met at the beginning of his third world tour. She was Connor’s assistant, learning the ropes of film and photography from him. Shawn had taken an instant liking to her. The guys constantly teased him about his crush. Finally, with lots of convincing, he gained the confidence to ask her out.
And since he didn’t want to overwhelm her with the plethora of fans and paparazzi on their first date, he took her back to his hometown to compete in his family’s Christmas competition.
Last year, she beat Shawn by a landslide. When it came to hand crafts, Y/N was a lot better at it than Shawn. Which is what scared him the most. What if it was so obvious that he lost that Y/N wouldn’t believe the results and would ask for a rematch? What if his fans did the opposite of what he said and voted for option number 1?
Shawn led Y/N to the couch to go sit down with her. Being around her made him nervous as hell. But it also made him think he could do anything with her by his side. He was excited to start this new chapter in their lives, but nervous for what it entailed.
“You okay there?” Y/N had noticed the shift in his demeanor, but he continued to rub the back of her hand with his thumb.
“Yea. I just missed you. And it’s snowing so I was a little nervous about you making it here safe.”
She picked his hand up and kissed his fingertips that were blistered from playing the guitar. “Babe, I’ve driven in the snow before. It wasn’t too bad out there. I’ve been in worse.”
“Yea, but I don’t know. I want you to call me the next time you’re in a snowstorm. It would make me feel more comfortable.”
Y/N chuckled. “Alright hon. If that’s’ what would make you feel better.” He nodded his head and pushed it into her chest. She rubbed her hands through his scalp, and he sighed with content.
He had been extra clingy sense the past week that they had spent at Shawn’s parents’ house. Not that she was complaining, she loved clingy Shawn. But usually, it meant he was feeling stressed about something.
“You’re sure you’re ok? You don’t need to talk about anything?”
He nodded his head. “I’m fine. Promise,” his mumbled voice said. “You’re so comfy. I feel like I’m going to fall asleep.”
“Well how about you don’t do that. Jordan just got here so let’s get the competition started,” Aaliyah said, smiling at the two from her spot in the living room. Jordan stood behind her sending a little wave to them.
“Hey Jordan. How’s it going?” Y/N questioned.
Jordan laughed nervously. “It’s good. How are you guys?”
“We’re more than good,” Shawn replied.
They both stood from the couch and followed the couple into the kitchen. Y/N and Shawn sat next to each other. Aaliyah and Jordan across from them, and Manuel and Karen on opposite sides of the table.
“Alright, let the annual Mendes gingerbread competition begin.” Manny flipped over the hourglass set to go for half an hour, and they all began making their houses.
Y/N picked up her frosting and quickly started making icicles along the roof of the house. Shawn used the icing to stick candy lights on it. He looked over at Y/N to see her tongue peeking out of her lips in concentration. He smiled to himself. He couldn’t wait to marry this girl.
Shawn tried really hard this to make his better than Y/N’s. Last year, Y/N had won the competition. Shawn hadn’t really tried because he always won against Aaliyah and didn’t see a point. But this year he had to step up his game.
“And time!” Manny yelled as the last drop of sand fell through the hourglass. Shawn looked over at Y/N’s gingerbread house and was proud to see that hers wasn’t all that better than his. He caught her also eyeing his and he sent her a smirk.
“You’re so going to lose.”
“Hmm, ok. Whatever you say Mendes.”
Shawn posted the photos of the gingerbread houses and the poll. As they waited for the results to come in, they all sat down to watch ‘Elf.’ After the movie ended, Shawn pulled out his phone. His heart was beating as he looked at the poll results. He was relieved to see he had won.
“Look,” he shoved the phone in Y/N’s face and held up an L on his forehead. “You lost.”
Y/N was shocked but accepted her defeat. The whole family followed Y/N into the kitchen. Little did she know that she was the only one smashing her house and that there was a life-changing surprise hidden in it.
“Ok, you ready?”
“This is so sad,” Y/N lamented the loss of her gingerbread house before picking up the tiny wood mallet. It didn’t require much force to break the house with it and it wouldn’t damage the ring.
Shawn felt his heart stop as she broke the roof and saw the ring. A confused look flashed across her face and then Shawn grabbed it from inside the gingerbread house and knelt down.“My bad. I must’ve lost this. I think it belongs to you. That is if you, Y/N L/N will marry me?”
Y/N gasped in surprise. Her mouth opened and her right hand went up to cover it. “Are you being serious?”
Shawn nodded his head, feeling lightheaded from the nerves.
“Of course! Do you even need to ask that question?!” Y/N threw herself into Shawn’s arms. He embraced her as the two toppled over onto the hard wood floor giggling.
“Here, let me put it on. I hope you like it. I was really worried you might not.”
She sat up as he slid the ring onto her finger and kissed her hand gently. “It’s beautiful Shawn. This is perfect. I can’t wait to marry you.”
He pulled her into a passionate kiss and the Mendes and Jordan cooed at the newly engaged couple.
*****
Later that night, as they watched a Hallmark on Shawn’s computer in his room, Y/N asked Shawn a question that had been weighing on her mind all night. “Hey Shawn, what would you have done if you lost?”
Shawn laughed nervously. “Well actually, I couldn’t have lost. I told my followers to vote for the second house which was mine. I couldn’t risk losing and not proposing to you tonight.”
“Y/N sent him the death stare. “So, you’re saying that I actually won, and you mad me smash my gingerbread house?!”
“Hey, my house wasn’t that bad. I think even without telling my followers to vote for me I would’ve won.”
“Shawn, let’s be real, I definitely won that competition.”
“Ok fine, you’re right. But just because I love you.”

Day 2–Where are you Christmas? (25 Days of Ficmas)
A/N: Kind of bad lol!
Summary: Reader and Shawn meet at a movie theater on Christmas Eve!
Warnings: Swear Words
Tumblr media
Y/N shivered as she made the short walk from her Uber to the movie theater doors. She placed her hands in her armpits and walked slowly so she didn’t fall on the ice. It was snowing outside, fitting for the people that wanted a white Christmas. Y/N didn’t necessarily care for that. And don’t get me wrong, she loved Christmas, but she grew up in LA where it never snowed, so this was a new thing to her.
She noticed that there were only a few other cars in the parking lot. It made perfect sense though. It was Christmas Eve after all.
She finally reached the sliding glass store and was greeted by the smell of popcorn and a few decorated Christmas trees throughout the lobby. Nobody was in the lobby besides her and the workers.
She walked over to the counter and sighed softly to herself. “Hi. Can I buy a ticket for ‘The Grinch Who Stole Christmas?’”Y/N loved that movie and was excited to hear that the theater was replaying it for Christmas.
The worker—an older man who had to have been in his early 70’s smiled softly at her. “Of course, dearie. Let me ring you up for that. So, you don’t have any Christmas plans?”
Y/N chuckled softly. “Nope. Just spending some quality time with myself. What about you?”
“I took the day off tomorrow to spend time with my grandchildren and my wife.” He handed her the ticket.
“Could I also get a medium popcorn please with a medium fountain drink?”
He nodded his head, typing it into the register. “You haven’t got a boyfriend or anyone that you’re spending tomorrow with? I’m sure a pretty girl like you has a boyfriend.”
She shook her head. He gave off a grandfatherly vibe and she didn’t mind talking to him. He passed her the popcorn and the drink.
“Well, merry Christmas!”
“You too!”
She walked away from the nice man and to the ticket collector. He took her ticket, ripped in half, and passed it back to her. She followed the directions he gave her to get to the correct theater and she found a city in the middle. She looked around and saw that she was the only one in there.
The movie was set to start at 7:00 and it was already 7:30. The commercials were almost over and if there were other people coming to see this movie, they either really didn’t mind being late or they weren’t coming at all.
As the opening scene started, she heard someone coming up the stairs. She glanced over at them and saw that they had sat two chairs away. He was handsome or at least from what she could see in the dark. His side profile was made of sharp lines, and he had a tuft of curly hair.
She quickly looked back to the screen before he caught her staring at him. She saw him look over at her from her peripheral and then glance back at the movie. About a quarter of the way through the movie, when Cindy Lou Who was in the Grinch’s layer, she heard him get up from her seat and move to the one right next to hers.
“Hey, my name’s Shawn. Have you seen this movie before?”
Y/N peeked a glance at him, and holy hell was even more attractive up close. And…wait a minute. This wasn’t just any attractive man, this was Shawn freaking Mendes! Y/N wasn’t a huge fan of his, but she had heard his songs on the radio.
“Um yea. I’ve seen it lots of times. It’s what me and my dad used to watch every Christmas Eve.”
“Hmm.” There was a pause from him for a minute. “Is it too nosy of me to ask where he is?” He had concern written on his gorgeous face and it made Y/N’s heart stammer.
“He’s in LA.”
“Ah, I see. Do you see him often?”
“Yea. I live in LA, so I see him quite a few times a month. I’m just here for Christmas.”
“Nice. What part of LA do you live in?”
“I live over by Westwood. I’m a student at UCLA so it’s nice to be close to that.”
“Ok, cool. I have a house that’s over by there.” Shawn nodded his head and smiled at her. Her heart fluttered again.
“So, what brings you to Toronto?”
“Umm, well this is super embarrassing. I was actually coming here to surprise my boyfriend. His family lives here and he was spending Christmas with them. But when I tracked down his hotel and everything, I walked into the room to see him cheating on me. And umm, my flight doesn’t leave here until New Year’s Day, so I’m trapped.” She laughed in a painful way and Shawn felt sorry for the girl.
“I…I didn’t mean to bring up such a sensitive topic. I’m sorry.”
“No, it’s ok. Seriously. He was a douche anyways,” There was a lull in their conversation. “So, what brings you here?”
“Umm, family. Like I said, I live in LA, but my family lives in Pickering. I have a condo in Toronto that I’m staying at right now.”
“Well, that’s nice. I wish I was spending Christmas with my family.”
“Yea. I mean it’s definitely nice to be by them, but I’m not sure they even want to see me tomorrow. We kind of got into a fight because I hardly ever come home to visit. I’m not sure if they’re still expecting me or not.”
“Oh. That’s not good. But I mean it makes sense. What with you going on tour all the time.”
Shawn chuckled. “So, you do recognize me. I couldn’t tell. I thought you might’ve when I first walked in because you sort of stared at me.”
“Y/N felt her cheeks flooding with blush. “Yea. I like your music. It’s got a good vibe to it.”
“Thank you! It’s always nice to get a compliment from a beautiful girl.” Y/N ducked her head down and turned her face away. “I guess we’re both in crappy situations then.” He sighed out of his nose.
“Yea.”
They both turned their attention back to the screen as Cindy Lou Who song her song about searching for the Christmas spirit. They kept sharing glances and smiling at each other. After a few seconds of this, Y/N felt something soft hit her face. She turned to Shawn who was smiling cheekily at the screen and eating his popcorn.
Y/N picked a piece of popcorn out of her own bowl and tossed it at Shawn.
Shawn turned to Y/N with a mock offended voice and put his hand over his heart. “How dare you?! What was that for?!”
Y/N giggled. “I know what you did Mendes. Just because you are famous doesn’t mean you can get out of it.” She threw another piece at him.
“Oh, it is on Y/N.” He picked up a handful of popcorn and tossed it into her hair.
“Shawn?! I just washed my hair today and now there is going to be butter and salt in it.”
“Serves you right for throwing two pieces at me.”
Y/N picked up her half full bucket of popcorn and dumped it onto Shawn’s head. She started to make a run for it and Shawn grabbed her around the waist, turned her around and, poured his popcorn onto her head.
They both sat their giggling and laughing as they stared into each other’s eyes. There was a pause before Y/N cleared her throat and said, “We should probably go before they find out we made this mess.”
Shawn nodded and followed Y/N as they went through the emergency exit. “Where are you parked?” Shawn asked.
“Oh, I took an Uber here.”
“That’s fine. I was actually hoping you would want to grab ice cream with me anyways?” He looked at her with puppy dog eyes and she couldn’t resist saying no.
“Sure, but maybe we should go for hot chocolate. It’s freezing out here.”
“Sounds like a plan.”
*****
“And then Brian had milk spilling out of his nose. It was so disgusting, but honestly the funniest thing ever.” Y/N smiled as she listened to Shawn tell stories about his tour.
“That’s hilarious.” Y/N got up to throw away her hot chocolate cup and pulled out her phone. She needed to search for a nearby hotel to stay the night at.
“You ready to go?” Shawn stood from his seat and started walking to the McDonald’s exit. He held the door open for her and they ran to his car to get out of the cold. “So, Miss L/N, to which hotel am I taking you to.”
Y/N laughed nervously. “Do you have any recommendations? I haven’t really thought about booking a different hotel than my ex until now.”
“Don’t worry about it. You can just spend the night at my place, it’s not a big deal.”
“No, Shawn. I’m not letting you do that.”
“You really don’t have a choice since I am driving this car. Now buckle up.” Y/N set her backpack that was carrying all her travelling stuff on the floor and buckled her seat belt.
The drive to his condo was short and they small talked, trying to get to know one another. Once they got inside his condo, Y/N retreated to the bathroom to change and get ready for bed while Shawn put out pillows and sheets for himself to sleep on the couch.
When Y/N walked out of the bathroom she made a beeline for the couch, but Shawn stood in front of her. And he was shirtless, only wearing a pair of gray sweats. “You’re sleeping in my room, not on the couch.”
“Well, you’re doing a kind thing for me. Plus, isn’t it weird that you just met me today and now you’re allowing me to sleep in your bed.”
“Yea, if you were some random girl I picked up off the street. But I feel like I know you pretty well now that we’ve spent a whole night together. I don’t know, I feel some sort of connection to you. Is that weird?”
“Is it weird if I tell you I feel the same thing. Like we were supposed to meet tonight.”
“Exactly! I don’t know.”
“Well, I still feel like I can’t let you sleep on the couch. You have been way too generous to me already.”
“There’s only one way to solve this problem. We either both sleep in the bed or we both sleep on the couch. So, you go ahead and choose. That is if you feel comfortable enough to share with me.” He scratched the back of his neck.
Y/N laughed nervously. This attractive famous guy had just offered to share a bed with her, and he was nervous about her response! “Umm probably the bed.”
“Ok, let’s go then. I have a TV in there and we can watch a Christmas show or something. Maybe a Hallmark. Do you like Hallmarks? Aaliyah, my sister, loves them.”
“Yea, Hallmark sounds good. That is if you’re up to it.”
Shawn nodded and grabbed her hand, pulling her past the grand piano and into his room. “Sorry. It’s a little messy, but yea.” He seemed embarrassed of the slight mess of clothes on the floor as he shoved some of them under the bed with his foot.
“It’s fine. My room can look worse than this if I get too stressed out.”
Shawn grabbed the TV remote as Y/N awkwardly sat down on his bed. Her feet hung over the side as she watched Shawn channel surf until he got to Hallmark.
“You can get in the bed you know,” he whispered to her as he slid under the covers, prompting her to do the same. They didn’t touch. In fact, Y/N scooted to the furthest edge of the bed.
They lay there for a few minutes before Shawn finally spoke up. “Ok, quit being awkward. It’s not like we’re strangers. I know more about you than like half the people in my life. In fact, I’ve had some of the deepest conversations I’ve ever had with anyone tonight. So, unless you really don’t want me to, I want to cuddle with the beautiful girl next to me.”
Y/N tucked her lips into her mouth as she tried to hide her smile. There was no way that Shawn Mendes wanted to cuddle with her!
He slowly inched closer to her and turned sideways to wrap her up in his warm arms. “If you’re uncomfortable tell me and I’ll stop.”
“No, this is great. I…I think I’m just in shock. I never thought a guy like you would want to even talk to a girl like me.”
“I know how I can be perceived through the media, but if you’ll let me, I want to show you that I’m not what the paps make me out to be.”
“No, no. It’s not that I thought you weren’t a good person. You’re too perfect for me.”
Shawn chuckled and pressed a soft kiss to her shoulder. “Sorry. I don’t mean to laugh at you. But literally the moment I set eyes on you in that theater, I thought you were the most gorgeous girl I had ever seen. And getting to know you has made me like you even more than I did. I hope I’m not scaring you off with all these feelings.”
“You’re not. I know I just broke up with my boyfriend today, but that seems like so long ago. So, thank you for helping me forget and for helping me turn the worst Christmas Eve into a better one.”
*****
The morning sun awoke the two. Y/N’s head lay on top of Shawn’s bare chest and his arm was wrapped around her waist. “Morning,” he whispered in his raspy voice. She heard his stomach growl and they both laughed. “Guess we need to get some food.” He sighed. “You know, my mom always makes this monkey bread on for breakfast, but I’m not getting any of that this year.”
Y/N felt bad about Shawn’s strained relationship with his parents, so she decided to speak up. “You don’t have to miss out. You should go over there and fix it. Christmas spirit and everything. Remember Cindy Lou Who’s song? Where are you Christmas? Well, you can find Christmas by making up with your family.”
Shawn breathed in. “Why do you have to be right about this. You’re coming with me though. I’m not leaving you alone on Christmas day. Or ever if I can have anything to do with it.” He rubbed his nose against hers and gently kissed the tip of it.
The two of them quickly got ready and were out the door on their way to Shawn’s childhood home in a split second.
Shawn tentatively knocked on the door. When his mother answered, her face went from shock to pure joy. She pulled her son into a hug and started to apologize for their fight. “No, no. You don’t need to apologize. You’re right, I’m hardly ever home. And trying to get out of coming home for Christmas was to make you mad. I just wanted to have the upper hand in the fight. But Christmas should be about forgiveness and love. So, I’m going to try harder to make it home more often.” Karen had soft tears pooling in her eyes as she pulled Shawn into another hug.
She gasped as she pulled away, catching sight of Y/N. “Shawn! You didn’t tell me you met a girl!”
Shawn chuckled. “Yea. She’s my…friend.” He scrunched his eyebrows up and looked towards Y/N for confirmation.
“We’re not sure what we are. But friends is a good label for now.”
Shawn nodded and grabbed her hand, pulling her into the house. “Well, whatever you two are, we welcome you…” she paused for her name which Shawn quickly told her, “Y/N. What a beautiful name and you look like such a lovely girl.”
After breakfast was served and Manny, Aaliyah, and Y/N had sat down to play a game of Monopoly, Karen called Shawn into the kitchen to ‘help’ her grab something.
“That girl out there, is a keeper. You better not let her slip through your fingers. I know this sounds weird, and I’m not sure how long you guys have known each other, but she is special. She could be the one.”
Shawn felt himself blushing. “We just met last night. But we both think that there’s definitely something more between the two of us. I think you might be right. You know, she was the one who convinced me to come here this morning. Otherwise I would’ve been my stubborn self and spent today alone.”
“Well, you better kiss that girl by the end of the day. And I see a wedding on the horizon. And maybe grandkids in the next two to three years?”
Shawn shooed his mom off with his hand but couldn’t resist smiling. “We’ll see mom, we’ll see.

Day 1–Fake Dating (25 Days of Ficmas)
A/N: Day 1!! So happy to kick off this series. Hope you like it. Summary: Reader invites Shawn to a work Christmas party as her fake boyfriend
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
“Knock, knock. I’m just making the rounds and passing out the Christmas party invitations! This year is a Christmas ball! How exciting is that?!” Jenna paused when she realized Y/N wasn’t listening. “How’s it going?”
“Meh. I can come up with a big piece of evidence that proves this guy is innocent. It’s just so frustrating!”
“Hey, maybe you need a break. It’s snowing outside. Go be out there for a minute, clear your thoughts.” Jenna, the secretary of the law firm, but also Y/N’s best friend suggested.
Y/N lifted her head from her computer screen to see that it was indeed snowing. Big, fluffy, snow globe flakes. The one’s that made her feel like she was in a Hallmark movie.
“But I have to get this done. It’s really important.”
“Y/N…go outside. Or I will unplug your computer and you will lose all your work. You know I will not hesitate to do it,” she gave Y/N a stern look as she put the invitation on her desk. She knew Jenna was right. She always followed through with her word.
“Okay, fine. I’m going.” Y/N stood from her desk, stretched a little, and walked out of her office.
When she got outside, she took a moment to enjoy the peace and quiet. There is something so beautiful about sound when it snows. It dampens the world and makes it seem like you are the only one in it. It’s so…peaceful.
Y/N took a few deep breaths before she saw Camilla stepping out of her car, a coffee in hand. Her short pink dress, skin-colored nylons, black high heels, and white fur coat completing the prissy look.
“Good morning, Y/N,” she sent her the bitchiest smile she could muster before going inside.
Y/N and Camilla were competing to become the new owner of the law firm once the boss retired. Camilla had a super wealthy fiancé and the owner of the company valued someone like that. He knew the company would be well off financially. Along with having a sugar daddy, Camilla would be married soon. And the owner saw it as Camilla having her life put together.
Whereas Y/N did not have a boyfriend. Nor had she kissed anyone in 6 months. It’s not that she hadn’t gone on dates, they were all just dull people whom she had little in common with.
She felt her back pocket vibrating and looked down to see the familiar face of her long-time best friend, Shawn.
“Hello. Long time no call.”
“Yea sorry about that. But you’ve been getting my texts, right? Tour is super busy right now.”
“Yea I’ve seen your texts. You look like you’re having a blast. How’s Alessia doing?”
“She’s great. She’s really getting the hang of it.”
“I need to come out and see you guys again soon.”
“That would be nice, but actually I’m coming home next week to be with my family for Christmas and I was wondering if you wanted to hang.”
“Hmm. I don’t know. You’re kind of the worst. You leave me alone for months at a time and expect me to survive without you,” Y/N said sarcastically.
“Sorry about that. Forgive me?”
And then a wonderful idea popped into Y/N’s head. “I will only if you do me a really big favor.”
“Which is…”
“Pretend to be my boyfriend at my Christmas work party.”
There was silence on the other end as Shawn felt his heart flutter when she said the words ‘my boyfriend.’ Even if it was fake, he was willing to help the girl he loved.
“Of course. When is it?”
“Next Saturday night.” She bit her fingernails nervously as she waited for his response.
“Are you biting your fingernails? You need to quit that habit.” She blushed. He knew her in a way that no one else did. He knew she was nervous and knew she would be biting her nails. “But sure, I will go with you. What’s the theme?”
Of course Shawn had heard of these infamous Christmas parties and their elaborate themes every year. He had also heard about her annoying co-worker that tried to one-up Y/N in everything she did.
“It’s a Christmas Ball. Which reminds me, I have literally nothing to wear to this. I’ll have to go shopping tonight—”
“Wait! Don’t!”
Y/N paused.
“I’m flying in this Sunday. We’re going to show up that bitchy co-worker of yours. I’m taking you to Armani and we’re getting a matching suit and gown. She’s not going to know what hit her.”
Y/N let out a soft chuckle. “This is why I love you, Shawn.”
He smiled sadly on the other end of the line. Not the way I love you though. He thought. He’ll never know the double meaning to my words. She thought.
*****
Monday cam slowly as Y/N anticipated the day that she finally got to see Shawn. He showed up to her house in his black Range Rover and opened the passenger door for her. “Milady.”
She giggled. “What was that for?”
“Just got to get in the boyfriend mood,” He sent her a cheeky smile as he walked around to the driver’s side of the car.
“You are such a cheese ball, you know that?”
He gently shoved her arm as they pulled into the parking lot of the Armani store.
He grabbed her hand and led her to the dress section of the store. “Hello Mr. Mendes. It is a pleasure to have you and the lady in our store today. And what might I do for you?”
“We need a ball gown. One fit for a princess. And if you can, try to find something green. It really suits her eyes.”
“I will do my best,” the attendant said, eyeing Y/N up and down to gauge her measurements and dress fit.
“Sorry was that too forward. I should’ve let you choose the color,” Shawn whispered as the attendant walked into the backrooms.
Y/N laughed. “No, I’m glad you said something. I literally have nowhere to start so that was very helpful. And I didn’t know green looked good on me.”
“Yea, you look really beautiful in it. It brings out the blush in your cheeks.” Shawn turned his head away to look at the tuxedo section, but it really was to avoid seeing her reaction. He was worried it would not be wanted he wanted.
The attendant came back a few minutes later with a beautiful dark green ballgown with short off the shoulder sleeves and silky material. There was a slit for her right leg and the attendant also held a pair of nude heels.
“Try these on. I think they will suit you well. And once we get you all fitted, we can get to work on Mr. Mendes’s matching tuxedo.”
Y/N quickly changed and walked out to show the two her dress. Shawn’s jaw dropped open and he stared at Y/N’s beautiful figure. He wanted to kiss her right then and there, but he couldn’t.
“This is the one. I can feel it. There is no need to try on more dresses. Thank you, this is amazing!” she thanked the attendant.
After finding Shawn a tuxedo, they walked to the front of the store to pay. Y/N went to pay for her dress when Shawn slapped her hand out of the way and passed the cashier his card.
“You two are cute together,” the cashier said, and Y/N looked over at Shawn who was grinning from ear to ear.
“Thank you!”
When they reached the car, Y/N addressed Shawn about this, “Why did you let her think we were a couple,” Y/N chuckled.
“Gotta play into the act, right?” He grabbed her hand and kissed it gently.
*****
The night of the Christmas party, Shawn walked to her front door, a bouquet of poinsettias in his hands. He knocked gently, rocking back and forth nervously on the balls of his feet. He didn’t know how tonight was going to go. He wanted to play the part, but he also didn’t want Y/N to become suspicious of his true feelings.
Inside the house, Jenna was helping Y/N put her shoes on when there was a knock at the door. “You stay here, I’m going to go get it,” Jenna said.
Y/N laughed. “Jenna, you know it’s just fake. It’s not a real date or anything like that.”
“Cut the crap, I know you have feelings for him. And if my gut is right, he feels the same for you.”
Y/N smiled softly as Jenna left the room and when to the top of the staircase. She saw Shawn standing at the bottom, beaming up at her. The walk down the stairs felt so long as he waited for her to be in his arms.
He passed her the bouquet and grabbed her waist. “You ready to go?”
“Wait! You guys can’t leave yet! I need pictures!”
“Jenna, this isn’t a school dance! Plus, don’t you need to be driving over to pick up Ben.”
“Yea, yea. Whatever. If he really loves me, he can wait. I need to document this for when you two get married,” she said snapping a few photos. Y/N rolled her eyes and Shawn chuckled.
“I mean she’s not wrong though. We’re fake dating, who knows what’s next? A fake engagement, a fake wedding. These photos could be of use someday,” Shawn said jokingly while Y/N choked on her spit. The fact that Shawn even thought about getting married to her—even if it was a fake wedding—sent her heart soaring.
“Here, let me take those flowers from you. You guys got to get going if you want to be on time.” Jenna grabbed Y/N’s flowers and shooed them out the door.
*****
The party was exactly like it was every year. It was held at a hotel in the ballroom with a wide staircase leading the way down to the floor. Usually you could just walk in, but this year, since it was themed as a Christmas ball, they were announcing the guests at the top of the steps.
When Y/N and Shawn reached the announcer, Shawn held his arm out and Y/N wrapped her arm around it. Shawn whispered something in the announcer’s ear, and he nodded.
“The beautiful and elegant Y/N, and her boyfriend, Shawn Mendes.”
Y/N bashfully stared down at the people as they looked up at her and Shawn. He was a celebrity after all. She saw Camilla gripping her glass of champagne a little too hard. Camilla was dressed nicely, but Y/N was stunning. She was undoubtedly the most beautiful girl in the room.
The entire night, Shawn stayed by her side, making polite conversation with her coworkers. She saw Camilla pass them quite a few times looking enviously at her.
Y/N’s boss came over to the two as the party was beginning to wind down. “Hello Y/N. It’s a pleasure to meet you Shawn,” he held out his hand for Shawn to shake, which he did. “I didn’t know you two were dating. There’s been no tabloids or media on it.”
“Well, I like to keep my life pretty private. Especially when it involves Y/N. We’ve been dating for 8 months and before that we were best friends. She doesn’t want to be in the limelight, and I don’t want to pressure her.”
“Makes perfect sense. Well as much as I would love to talk to you, I need to speak with Y/N privately.”
He pulled Y/N aside and Shawn sent her a little thumbs up. They retreated into the hallway, and he spoke softly to her.
“Y/N, you’ve been with the company four years now and I think you are a fabulous employee. You’ve won more cases than anyone at this law firm. And I know you and Camilla have had a little rivalry going on for the past few years, but I was always going to choose you. So, will you take over my spot once I retire at the end of the year? It’s all yours on January first.”
Y/N’s face lit up and she hugged him. But quickly pulled away when she realized how inappropriate that may seem. He chuckled joyfully. “I’m assuming that means yes?”
“Of course!”
“Perfect! I will see you in my office bright and early Monday morning to sign over the legal papers and things like that.”
“Thank you so much!”
“Of course, my dear, you deserve it.”
As she walked out of the hallway, she saw Jenna send her a hug smile and come running over towards her, embracing her. “I’m so proud of you! But I have even better news! Camilla and her fiancé broke off their engagement because he caught her cheating on him!”
“No freaking way! I have to go talk to him right now!”
Y/N searched the ball room for him and saw him standing by the drink table. But what he was doing horrified her.
As Y/N retreated into the hallway with her boss, Shawn couldn’t have felt prouder. She was getting her dream job and she would finally have more flexibility to come visit him.
“Ahem.”
He turned around and was faced with Camilla. Shawn scrunched his eyebrows in confusion then let his face relax.
“Hi, I’m Camilla.”
“I know.”
Camilla’s face lit up. “So, you’ve heard of me. Probably from Y/N. Her and I are good friends.”
Shawn pursed his lips and slowly nodded his head. “That’s not what I’ve heard from her, but I mean if you think you are, that’s great! She’s amazing!” He knew she was trying to get closer to him because he was rich and famous. Y/N had told him about her gold-digging ways.
“So, what have you heard about me? Because I haven’t really heard a lot about you from her.”
“Yea well she doesn’t really want a public relationship.”
“You could do so much better than her. You deserve someone who isn’t afraid to be in the spotlight and won’t mind a paparazzi here and there.”
Shawn was trying to hide his anger as he clenched his jaw. He had to keep reminding himself that it was a public place and not only that, but he didn’t want to damage Y/N’s reputation.
“I really enjoy Y/N’s company and if she doesn’t want people nosing their way into her private life, I respect that. It’s really hard to act happy all the time when you’re having every little move analyzed by the media.”
“Hmm, well I wonder what the media will think about this…” she whispered as she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him into her and pressing her lips to his. Shawn pulled her arms off him just as Jenna came storming over and slapped him across the face.
He grabbed his cheek and gasped in pain. “What the hell was that for!?”
“You douchebag! What the hell do you think you’re doing kissing this dumb bitch?!”
“I didn’t kiss her! She came onto me!”
“You better go explain that to Y/N.” She gestured to the door where he saw the backside of Y/N slipping out the door.
“Shit,” Shawn whispered.
He ran after Y/N, faster than he had ever run in his whole life. He caught a flash of her green dress turning the corner and started to yell her name. “Y/N! Y/N stop! Let me explain!” he grabbed her arm, and she turned around furiously.
“Explain what?! That the second I walk out of that room you start making out with that bitch?!” Her eyes flooded with tears and her voice softened. “I…. I thought I knew what kind of person you were. But I guess the fame has really changed you, huh?”
That felt like a slap in the face. Harder than Jenna’s physical slap. “No babe,” the nickname accidentally slipped out. “You don’t understand. I… she came on to me. The second you walked out of the room she started telling all of these lies about how you two are best friends and how I deserve better than you. Which is completely wrong, I don’t deserve you. She must’ve seen you come out of the hallway and knew that you got the job. She was probably just trying to get one last moment of revenge. But you have to believe me okay. Please, honey.” His voice cracked and Y/N let out a sob.
“What did you mean by that?”
“By what?” He questioned wiping a tear off her face.
“You said that Camilla told you that you deserved better than me. Then you said that’s completely wrong. So, are you trying to say you don’t deserve me? Because I’m not all that great. I mean, take Alessia for example. She’s pretty, you both play music, and she’s so obviously into you.”
Shawn chuckled. “You don’t get it do you. No one deserves you. You are the sun on a winter day, love. The earth revolves around you. And you want to know what? For a second there I forgot we were fake dating and I felt so bad that you thought I would cheat on you. But gosh, I don’t want this to be fake. Because I love you. And I’ve loved you as long as I’ve known you.”
More tears fell down Y/N’s face and Shawn tentatively wiped them away. “Shh. Now I’ve gone and ruined our friendship, haven’t I?”
He felt her bury her head into his chest and grasp onto his biceps. “You haven’t ruined anything. I love you too.”
“Well, in that case, would you care if I kissed you? I would really love to get the taste of her off my mouth and only taste you from now on.”
“That sounds like a plan.” And their lips interlocked in a passionate, long-awaited kiss.
When they finally pulled away, Shawn placed his forehead on hers. “So, Alessia’s into me aye? Are you jealous?”

“Just quit lurking in my doorway, it’s rude. Get in this bed right now!”
She didn’t have to tell him twice. He was under her covers in the blink of an eye.
“So, Mr. Mendes, what’s on the schedule for tomorrow,” she questioned while she turned on the T.V. and hit play on the episode.
“You’ve got an online interview at 10:00 am and then you’ve got soundcheck at noon. The meet and greets at 4:30 and you’re show starts at 7:30 tomorrow. A little later than usual, but we’re not getting to Paris until like 11:00 am so…late show it is.”
She sighed laying her head on his bare chest and placing her book on her nightstand. “How would I ever do it without you? You’re the best. Thanks Shawn.”
Shawn hummed a your welcome and felt his heart rate increase. He hoped she wouldn’t be able to hear it thudding against his chest.
*****
“Y/N, honey. It’s time to wake up,” a soft voice filled the room, shaking her from her sleep. She sat up, her hair a mess, and her eyes half closed. Shawn let out a little chuckle. She was adorable.
“Sorry to wake you, but you’ve got that interview in an hour and I didn’t know how long you wanted to take to get ready.”
“You’re good Mr. Mendes! Thanks for always keeping me on schedule.” At this point she had stood from the bed and was walking towards him. She placed a kiss on his cheek as she walked towards the shower.
The second the door closed to the bathroom, Shawn went to the living quarters of the bus. “I saw that, you know,” a sly voice said from the corner of the room. Shawn turned to see Brianna.
“Saw what?” He could feel himself blushing.
“You walk out of her room. Her kissing your cheek. The basics.”
“Well, she kisses my cheek a lot, it’s nothing new. And we sleep in the same bed a lot. It’s honestly become rarer for us to not sleep in the same bed.”
A pregnant pause went through the room as they heard the shower in the background.
“I was thinking of ways to get her to confess her feelings to you. Or at least drop a hint of something. It’s getting so obnoxious seeing you follow her around like a puppy.”
“I’m listening.”
“In high school, she really liked this boy. But no one knew because she never acted like she did. Well anyways, one day we were playing spin the bottle and I was chosen to kiss him. She was insanely jealous and hardly talked to me the next couple days. I finally confronted her about it, and she told me she had a massive crush on him.
“I thought she was so mad at me. But she had distanced herself from me because apparently, she couldn’t get the image of me and him kissing out of her head. If she reacts the same way with you, it means she really likes you.”
Shawn hesitated. “Look, you’re an amazing girl, but I just don’t want to kiss anyone besides Y/N.”
Brianna laughed. “I have a boy that I’m talking to. I know the feeling. We don’t have to kiss, but we should make it seem like we’re flirting or something. Maybe you could hug me like you always hug her. Maybe a few forehead kisses, some holding hands, and voila, if she has feelings for you, all will be revealed. If she doesn’t, then she’ll probably try to encourage our relationship or something.”             “It doesn’t hurt trying.”
They both turned their heads as they heard the door to Y/N’s room opening as she stepped out. A light blue blouse adorned her beautiful figure and complimented her eyes. Her hair lay in soft curls framing her face and Shawn couldn’t help but be breathless for a few seconds.
“Sorry, am I interrupting something?” Y/N asked as she stared between the two. Brianna had moved closer to Shawn to make it seem like they were having a more than friendly conversation before she walked in.
“Nope, not at all. Need help getting ready?” Brianna quickly asked to draw the attention away from Shawn who had his mouth slightly open as he stared at Y/N.
*****
“Oh my gosh Shawn, you’re hilarious,” Brianna had said while they ate lunch at the stadium where Y/N would be performing later that night.
Y/N looked across the way at Brianna and sent her a questioning glance. She hadn’t thought Shawn’s joke was funny enough to warrant a reaction like that. But that most likely meant that Brianna was flirting with Shawn. Which was a new thing.
A very new thing. Y/N wondered when her friend had developed this flirty relationship with her assistant. Before today, Brianna would always roll her eyes at Shawn’s cheesy jokes. Now she was sending googly eyes at him.
A pang of jealousy coursed through her. But she didn’t have much time to dwell on it before Andrew was walking over to the trio to tell them that Y/N’s sound check was supposed to be starting in ten minutes.
“Shawn, why didn’t you tell me sound check got moved to thirty minutes earlier?”
Shawn stared cheekily at Brianna. At this point, they had let the whole team in on their plot and everyone was working hard to play it off. They all wanted Y/N’s feelings to be revealed once and for all.
“I guess I just got distracted, sorry,” he sent a wink to Brianna that didn’t go unnoticed by Y/N.
She scoffed. “Well try to not to get distracted again. You are working right now, not trying to get a date for tonight.” She stood from the table and walked away calmly.
Shawn pointed his thumb after her and looked to Brianna. “She seems more pissed that I wasn’t doing my job than about our flirting.”
“Just give it a few more days. She’ll eventually crack. Either by threatening to fire you or telling you she loves you.”
Shawn’s eyes grew twice in size. “She wouldn’t actually fire me though. I’m basically as close to her as you are.”
“No, she’ll definitely fire you. But then she’ll rehire you once she’s calmed down a bit. You know how she is.”
That he did know. She was the most kind-hearted person he knew. She would do anything for anyone. But she was a very feisty women who wasn’t afraid to fight for what she believed in. And to top it all off, she had a mean sense of humor. And sometimes that could make her a little scary.
Shawn remembered the first time he ever met her. He thought she was going to fire him on the spot. He had bumped into her when she had been walking out of the recording studio and he had been walking in. It was his first day on the job and he had brought hot chocolate as a kind gesture.
The scorching hot chocolate had spilled all over her clothes. After looking down to assess the damage (her white shirt would probably have to be thrown in the trash) she glanced back up at Shawn. “Watch where you’re going,” she had scoffed.
Shawn felt his cheeks burn with embarrassment. “I am so, so, so sorry. I will pay for a new shirt. Please forgive me.”
She crossed her arms over her chest, reading his name tag. “So, you’re my new assistant. Looks like you’re off to a rough start. The shirt is 150 dollars. Cough it up,” she held out her hand, as if she was waiting for cash to be placed in it.
Shawn scrambled to get his wallet from his back pocket when he heard Y/N laughing. It was a melodic noise, but it surprised him. She hadn’t sounded angry. He dared a look at her.
“I’m sorry but the look on your face was priceless. Don’t worry about it, this shirt was only like 20 bucks and it’s a few years old. It might’ve been time to donate it anyway.”
Shawn was shocked. Her sudden change in demeanor threw him off guard.
“I’m Y/N by the way. And sorry if I scared you about that, but I have an awful sense of humor. Sometimes it’s just funny to be serious and play into the diva stereotype. I hope I can prove to you that I’m not actually like that. Forgive me?”
He stared at her for a few seconds as she held out her hand to him. “…I already knew who you were,” he chuckled. “You’re like my favorite celebrity so it’s really a huge honor to be working for you. And I’m the one that needs to be forgiven.” He reached out and shook her hand.
“Don’t worry, I forgave you the second I saw that smile. You should look into modeling.” And with that she brushed past him and walked into the bathroom no doubt to try and clean off the spill on her shirt.
*****
When Y/N ran off the stage after her performance that night, she was disappointed to not see Shawn standing right by the stage where he usually was. Instead, she heard sounds of laughter and rounded the corner to find Brianna and Shawn sitting on a couch and watching a show together.
“No way she said no! I totally thought he was the end all be all!”
Y/N was confused. She didn’t remember Shawn and Brianna ever being this close of friends. He had his arm around her shoulders and a blanket rested over their legs. Her head was on his shoulder.
Y/N was upset. Not only because she was jealous, but because her two best friends had somehow gotten close to each other overnight without her knowing. And to top it all off, they hadn’t even told her that their relationship was changing. It would’ve been a nice warning for Y/N before she got her heart broken.
Andrew observed Y/N’s reaction quietly from behind her. A smug smile played at his lips. Y/N stood there for only a few seconds, but he could tell she was not happy with the two’s proximity. She turned to walk back to the dressing room.
“Hey when they get out of their googly eye love land will you have both of them come to my dressing room. Looks like they forgot to include me in our after-show celebration,” she forced a smile onto her face that didn’t go unnoticed by Andrew.
As Y/N walked away, Brianna slid out from under Shawn’s arm and shudder. “Ew. That was weird.”
“Yea, seriously. Notice anything Andrew?” The two looked up at him.
“She just seems upset. I’m assuming you guys heard what she said to me?”
They both nodded. “Tell her we’ll meet her on the bus.”
Andrew sighed. “Are you kids sure this is a good idea? How long are we going to let this go on for?”
“Just until she does something about it.”
“Alright then. “
*****
Y/N walked onto the bus a half an hour later. After hearing that her two best friends had bailed on their tradition of celebrating after a show, she had broken down in the dressing room.
The show hadn’t gone as well as she had hoped. She had missed a few notes and being the perfectionist that she was, it really upset her. She craved one of Shawn’s hugs. He always noticed when she was feeling down about her performance. But instead, he was off swooning her best friend.
She dried her eyes and walked onto the bus, hoping they weren’t still red from crying. Brianna and Shawn were on the couch cuddling and asleep! Shawn had his arm wrapped around her middle and they looked so peaceful. It was hard to find a time where Shawn looked so relaxed. She didn’t even think he was that laid back with her.
And then it hit her. If they were both going to make the other person happy, she should quit being a jealous and selfish friend and let them do what they want. She wouldn’t try to force them into being around her if they didn’t want to be.
She felt a stinging sensation in her eyes, and she knew she was about to cry again. She lost her chance with Shawn and there was nothing she could do about it. She walked to her room, turning off the light and instantly falling asleep. She even forgot that the last episode of the Bachelorette was on that night!
*****
For their first day in Paris, Shawn had found a small Parisian café to eat breakfast in. He knew Y/N was somewhat fluent in French and she wanted to get the full experience. It originally was only going to be the two of them going to the café, but he decided that Brianna needed to come so they could keep up their act.
“Knock, knock,” Shawn said opening her door. He had a terrible night’s sleep. His insomnia flared up (she usually helped with that), and he was exhausted. He and Brianna had faked being asleep on the tour bus couch, but she hadn’t even spared them a thought. She had just walked to her room.
“Hey, you look tired.” She herself didn’t look to awake either. Her eyes were a little bloodshot, but makeup did a good job covering up the bags under her eyes. Her hair was flawless like always and she wore a white sundress. She was breathtaking.
“Yeah, I didn’t sleep too good last night.”
“Me either. I was planning on watching the last episode of The Bachelorette with my best friends, but y’all already watched it without me,” she chuckled to play it off as a joke, but he could hear the sadness seeping through her voice.
He scratched the back of his neck guiltily. Truth be told he didn’t really want to watch The Bachelorette without her, but Brianna convinced him it was a good idea. “Yea, sorry about that. I was just too excited to see who she chose. But I’ll watch it with you tonight if you’d like.”
“Yea, that sounds nice.”
There was an awkward lull in their conversation until Brianna popped up next to Shawn. Her hair was in perfect curls. Her makeup was flawless. And she was wearing a blue dress that complimented her eyes and red hair.
“You guys ready to go?”
Y/N tried to hide her surprise at the question. She assumed Shawn had invited her which was fine. She just had to act like it didn’t bother her. Shawn looked at Y/N shyly, trying to silently apologize.
“Yea, let’s go,” Y/N said brushing past Shawn and walking to the front of the bus.
*****
The café had only a few people in it when they arrived. “Bonjour!” Y/N said to the waitresses. They smiled at her, and she held a light conversation with them in French before they were seated. Shawn would never stop being impressed at the many talents she had.
Shawn and Brianna chose to sit across from each other leaving Y/N to sit by herself. She felt like the third wheel on a date. Funny how it was supposed to be just her and Shawn, but she’s the one who feels like the third wheel, not Brianna.
Y/N was quieter than usual which didn’t go unnoticed by her two best friends. But instead of bringing it up, they decided to let her fester in her emotions. She would eventually say something, they concluded.
But that went on for the entire day. They went sight-seeing in Paris with the rest of the team, and Y/N tried to avoid being around the two. She went to hang out with Connor, her photographer, who sent Shawn an evil eye. He looked after Y/N like his little sister. While he agreed that Y/N needed to fess up, he didn’t like the way she as being manipulated into doing it.
“Just ignore him,” Brianna whispered.
“Yea, ok.” That didn’t stop Shawn from feeling like a piece of shit for treating Y/N like this.
That night, Y/N got ready for bed hoping that Shawn would eventually come into her room to watch The Bachelorette, but that never happened.
*****
The next day went almost the same as the first. But by the last day, Shawn and Brianna were getting sick of pretending to like each other.
“You know what, scrap that dumb plan I made up a few days ago. Clearly, it’s not working and it’s just making her more and more upset. Which is not something we need. I never wanted to hurt her feelings and I’m sure you didn’t either. Take her to the Eiffel Tower tonight. Just you two. No one else.”
“…I’m guessing you’re going to say I should confess my love to her like in all those cliché love stories,” he chuckled. “Well, it’s better than your first plan.”
“Hey, you agreed to that!”
“Yea, yea. More like I got pressured into it.”
Brianna crossed her arms as Y/N walked out of her room. She was wearing a brown cardigan over a light blue dressed. She stared between the two before walking towards the small kitchen and pulling out some cereal and a bowl.
Brianna tilted her head towards Y/N, insinuating that Shawn should talk to her. She walked away and Shawn went to the kitchen.
“Hey, what if I took you out for dinner tonight?”
“Well actually I just wanted to stay in and rest.”
“Yea, but you can do that all day tomorrow when we’re heading to the next city.”
“Yea, but my bed is so warm and cozy, and I just want to lay down in it.”
“Nope, you’re coming with me. I’ve barely spent any time with you this whole trip.”
Shawn grabbed Y/N’s hand and pulled her towards the exit of the bus. She pulled back with a force just as strong.
“No! If you wanted to spend time with me, you and Brianna would stop making me feel like a third wheel. I don’t want to even be around you guys because you leave me out. It’s not fun!”
“Brianna isn’t coming. It’ll just be me and you.”
Y/N raised her eyebrows at him. “Uh huh. And Brianna is ok with this?”
“Yea, why wouldn’t she be?”
“Just seems like you two have to do everything together since we got to Paris.”
Shawn turned away to hide his smile. Maybe their first plan had worked a little. Y/N definitely did seem a little jealous.
“Well, I promise she’s not coming. Let me take you to dinner and we can go see the top of the Eiffel Tower. It’ll be fun. Please,” he used his puppy dog eyes on her. The ones he knew she couldn’t resist.
“Fine,” she rolled her eyes, but was secretly excited for their little outing.
*****
“Notre Dame was so pretty. I think it’s been my favorite place so far.”
“Yea Notre Dame was cool. I just wished that I got to spend more time with you,” Shawn said as he took a bite out of his food.
Y/N scoffed. “If you wanted to spend more time with me, you would’ve spent less time flirting with Brianna.”
“Hey! It’s not like you weren’t flirting up a storm with Connor!” That wasn’t an entirely false statement. Y/N had tried to make Shawn jealous, but she didn’t think it had worked.
“Please Shawn,” she waved her hand at him, “he’s like a brother to me. You know that.”
“Ok and you’re like a sister to me! Brianna…” he paused. He didn’t know why he had said that. In a round-a-bout type of way, he was trying to insinuate to her that his relationship with her was like her relationship with Connor. They acted like siblings but would flirt. Connor knew Y/N was off limits though because Shawn had already staked a claim.
“Brianna what?” She was red in the face from arguing with him.
“She’s like a friend to me. I mean I don’t really know her that well. I spend more time with you than with her.”
“It sure didn’t seem like it this week. You know what though, I think we need to leave. Let’s just leave this argument in the past and have a good time tonight. You ready to go?”
Shawn nodded his head and placed a bill down on the table. Y/N tried to beat him to it but he said, “Nuh uh. I’m paying for this.”
*****
The air was cold at the top of the Eiffel Tower and Y/N shivered in her dress as they stared out at the city lights. It was a beautiful sight, but Shawn couldn’t tear his eyes away from Y/N’s figure. She looked so free and happy. Something he hadn’t seen on her the entire week. He knew he was to blame for that. It was now or never that he told her his feelings.
“Here, you look cold,” he draped his jacket around her shoulders.
“Thanks.”
“Look Y/N, the real reason I took you up here tonight is because I have to tell you something. It’s kind of a big deal. It’s a secret I’ve been keeping from you since I first met you,” he grabbed her hand and she glanced at him.
“I know Shawn. I know that you used to love me, but now your feelings have shifted, and you want to figure out whatever it is that you have with Brianna. I’m not offended or hurt or anything. And if talking to mean is your way to find closure, I’m here for you. And if you want my advice,” she paused and looked back out at the city, “I would resolve the fight you two were in before we left.”
Shawn stared at her dumbstruck. She was letting him go so easily. No fight. Nothing. That surely meant that she didn’t love him. And she already knew that he loved her. It wasn’t like he hadn’t made it obvious, but he just thought she didn’t know.
Shawn didn’t say anything for a few seconds and Y/N tried to stop the tears from coming to her eyes. She had once again lost something to her best friend and she once again, couldn’t be mad at her for it.
“You know, I always pictured myself up here with a man I had fallen head over heels with,” she took a deep breath. It was now or never. She had nothing to lose. “I guess I just didn’t realize that he would’ve fallen for my best friend instead.” Shawn’s mouth opened in shock. “I was such an idiot. I thought that by hiding my feelings and waiting for you to confess first to me I would have it confirmed that you loved me back. I wouldn’t have to make that leap of faith. But I waited too long, and I lost my chance.” She looked into his eyes, into the very depths of his soul.
And at the top of the City of Love, she whispered, “I love you, Shawn. As more than a friend. More than you’ll ever know. And I am so, so sorry that I was a coward about all of this. I cost us a beautiful relationship. But I want you and Brianna to be happy. It’ll give me peace of mind knowing that I didn’t screw everything up.”
And with that, she pulled her hand away from Shawn’s and turned to walk away. Shawn went after her. “Where are you going?! We’re at the most perfect spot in the city! You can’t just drop that on me and walk away!”
She turned around. “Please Shawn, I can’t have you doing this. Don’t get my hopes up. I’m tired and I want to go back to the bus.”
“Y/N wait—”
“Please! I can’t do this tonight!”
He wrapped his arms around her waist and turned her around to face him. He didn’t waste another moment before capturing her lips in his. She wrapped her hands around his neck and tugged on his hair. She finally pulled back, slightly pushing him away.
“I love you ok. If you just would’ve let me talk, I would’ve gotten to that point. This whole week me and Brianna have been trying to make you jealous,” he chuckled at her appalled face. “We just wanted you to break first and confess to me. We realized we had taken it too far when you distanced yourself from us. Me and Brianna were arguing because she was trying to pressure me into telling you my feelings tonight. I promise she is just a friend. Nothing more.”
There was a long pause and Shawn watched something shift in Y/N’s eyes. “You are such an idiot! You know what, you’re fired!” She stared at him with crossed arms, a red face, and angry eyes.
Shawn couldn’t tell if she was being serious or if she was joking.
“You’ve pushed me too far this time. That was so dumb of you! I don’t care if you say you love me, you wouldn’t have done that if you did! I expect your things to be packed up. You’re leaving at the next city!”
Shawn scrunched his eyes at her, and she turned away, starting to walk down the steps of the Eiffel Tower.
By the time they had made it to the bus (which was in walking distance), Y/N hadn’t spoken a word to Shawn. Even though he had begged and begged for forgiveness.
When they got on the bus, Brianna waited for them on one of the couches. “So…I’m guessing by Y/N’s face it didn’t go too well,” she said to Shawn.
“NO! He’s fired! And how dare you do that to me!”
Brianna made eye contact with Shawn and her eyes widened when she realized that Y/N wasn’t joking.
“Woah Y/N, think about this for a second. Shawn is your best friend.”
“Yea and you guys are such idiots to think that I would actually fire you!” She turned around laughing at Shawn.
He rolled his eyes. “I guess we kind of deserved that. But I hate your sense of humor.”
“Oh, shut up! You love it like you love me!”
“Hmmm, I don’t know about that. We were having a sweet moment and you had to ruin it.”
“Maybe just be transparent next time and I won’t have to use my ‘mean humor’ on you.” She threw her (his) jacket at him with a smile on her face and walked towards her room.
“You better go be with your girl,” Brianna sent him a wink and he rolled his eyes at her.
“Thanks for everything!”
“Don’t mention it. It is the city of love, it was bound to happen.”
A/N: lol what is this garbage. I loved the plot but executed it so badly. Thanks for reading anyways. Feedback is appreciated.
