Our love felt like a long afternoon Where we floated together under a blazing sun. We transcended all but ourselves, Buoyed by the comfort of our souls Resting against each other. But we never dipped below the surface. I never felt the currents of your heart, And you never knew the depths of my despair. Instead, we ebbed back and forth, Hands clasped together until, Eventually, the horizon rose, The stars littered the sky, And we drifted apart.
