it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that ‘comfort’ isn’t exactly something that your beloved boyfriend excels at — he tries, of course he does, but the fact is that he just wasn’t built to be a comforting person, he was made to be an entertainer and so that’s usually what he relies on when it comes to his attempts at making you feel better

he’s quick to pick up on your low mood — be that because you’re very blatantly upset and wearing your heart on your sleeve, or because you’re just not as enthusiastic as usual or are generally more withdrawn and willingly isolating yourself from the group — and he immediately springs into action with a brilliant (handcrafted, hand coded, painstakingly perfected, made with you and you alone in mind) adventure for the two of you to go on while the rest of the players do… whatever it is they usually do when he’s not around

in his usual dramatic (and at times inconsiderate of personal space) fashion, caine will manifest himself into your bedroom and start his usual advertising spiel about how totally amazing this new adventure is and what you two will be doing — even taking some time to blow his own trumpet about how much better these new npcs are and how he can’t wait for you to see them

he’ll make excuses about why this particular adventure will just be for the two of you before dragging you through the portal with a string of promises about how you’re going to love this one

everything about it is coded and tweaked to your exact preferences: the difficulty of the tasks you’re assigned, the location and climate of the level, the time of day, the npcs you speak to, even the way the level itself is laid out — every detail, big and small, was carefully and lovingly modelled off of all the things caine has learned about you over the course of your relationship… even if some of the minutia isn’t exactly perfect it’s close enough for you to be blown away by the effort he’s put into this

though the main purpose of this little date was to distract you from whatever was troubling you and get you to smile and laugh again, caine certainly isn’t going to stop you from opening up and being vulnerable with him if you feel so inclined at any point in your little journey

he’ll hold you if you cry, listen to every word you say, and even if he doesn’t quite know how to directly comfort you he’ll still do his best — whether that means offering physical touch, empathetic words, or offering you an impromptu battle with some random reused character to take your frustrations out on, he’s more than happy to do it all for you

the long and short of it is that this ringmaster is absolutely smitten with you and though his methods may be nontraditional, he’ll be damned if he doesn’t do whatever he can to comfort you when you’re feeling low

(and scold anyone — usually jax — who tries to mock you for your low mood when he’s around)
