when you reread the bit in book 7 where snape gives his report and voldemort looks right at him and reads his mind

you realize how dangerous it is

and how skilled snape is

because not only does he keep voldemort from discovering his secrets, but he does it in an undetectable way where he thinks he is succeeding at reading snape's mind

It struck me that Snape is talking about himself, feeling disdain for every open book, while he has to keep tight lid on every emotion.

Severus is expressive whenever his composure slips just a little, he had to convince them all completely, but it still breaks my heart how nobody would notice.
