Quote
A bare throat stretched out towards the stars, her hands like white rabbits nestled in her skirts. The itch in her arms to start burrowing. My nails, claws flinching closer, closer— bare teeth like a knife edge, blood-hunger swarming up my throat. Tableaus splayed out in castles, in the forest suburbs where the poorest creatures go to live. The girl at the centre of it all, gold hair shining. Me in the shadows, dark eyes gleaming. Some monsters have a tragic backstory. The ones like me were just born to swallow the light whole.
The Fairytale Villain, Elisabeth Hewer
[Look out for my first collection of poetry being released with Platypus Press in October!]

[real talk, the funniest thing in the world to me is that for someone who is literally mentioned like 100 times, Snyder says like a sentence or two in the first act, gives a fucking monologue on Jack's life story, and then never speaks again. For someone with a huge presence in the story, he never fucking says anything]

Newsies Villains Moodboard: 1/? — Warden Snyder
That one there, Jack Kelly… his is not a pleasant story.
He was first sentenced to my refuge for loitering and vagrancy, but his total disregard for authority has made him a frequent visitor. After his release, I caught him myself, red handed– trafficking stolen food and clothing.
He was last sentenced to six months, but the willful ruffian escaped.

"Of course not, I'm sure the little street rat has a better idea of her birth records than the place they were filed." Snyder replied, all but rolling his eyes at her attempt at insolence. In a way, he was almost disappointed at how easy she was making it. "Don't worry, everyone will see the moment you start to break down. You won't even have to say a word, all the kids you've excited with false promises will know, and their broken hopes will be your fault. Just a price of being a legendary hero, I guess."

“I know you think you do, since you’re grown, but lemme tell you, Spider, grown ups ain’t ever done nothing for me, or any of the kids in here.” She wore cockiness easily- naturally, almost- and it barely faltered when Snyder called her by her father’s surname. “That ain’t my last name, and we both know it.”
“According to your record, it is your last name— unless you know something the New York City court house doesn’t.” Snyder drawled, rolling his eyes. He would never understand where the children got their silly nicknames, or why they cling to them so fiercely. “Call me spider all you’d like, it won’t change the fact that you are a little girl trying to act all tough so people start listening to you. What will happen when that bravado wears thin?”

Says the whorish daughter of a convicted felon. Forgive me for not weeping at the fact that you don't like me— I'm sure the tears will come about the same time your father gets out of prison, if he ever does.

[Maggie Thatcher and Warden Snyder both have the same amount of syllables and ending sounds, so you can technically replace the name in “Merry Christmas Maggie Thatcher” from Billy Elliot.]
