Our supports on Patreon just got a new episode of our patreon exclusive bts podcast!!
Tumblr media
This month, I'm chatting about @remnantspod and the bonus content which will come along with it, the future of @notquitedeadpod (including some bonus stuff to expect and plans for a spin off!), touching base about @spiritboxradio bonus content, why Twelvelms is moving at such a glacial pace, and also some advance notice about plans for 2025, which will mark 5 years since I started making audio dramas and will have the five year anniversaries of the launches of both Clockwork Bird and SBR, each to be marked in their own special ways.
I hope you enjoy!!

I don't know why I'm saying this here rather than in live blogging, but I'm listening to SBRR1 again and one thing I think you really glossed over is how well the nervous energy you had about acting Sam translates into Sam's own nervous energy about finally getting the opportunity to present the show.
I know you never intended this story to reflect your creative journey through it, but I think it's one of the things that makes this show feel so genuine and gives it so much heart
Anyway imma go listen to S1 again, byeeee
I'm really glad it reads that way! I think it's interesting that the show does, in hindsight, really reflect my creative process as I was creating it. Some aspects of this were definitely self-conscious. For example, I thought a lot at the beginning of making the show about how a growing real life audience would really add something dimensional and interesting to the way the fictional in-show audience begins to grow. Later in the show when that distinction between real and unreal audience starts to deliberately get played around with, I was like, 'man this would be really cool if the show really DOES have a big audience by then'. And it did and it was!
Stuff like this to do with my personal direct experience was much less self-consicious and largely accidental. I had HOPED my nervousness was covered up by Sam's own nervousness but I wasn't sure if it actually would be. Editing this first episode of SBRR, interestingly, I'm surprised at how nervous I sound still in the present as I'm talking about it, where I'm talking very fast like I'm worried about holding people up. It's really interesting to hear that interplay the clips from the early show where that's very pronounced in my performance of Sam, too.
Thanks for dropping this into the ask box Tal xxx

Today marks 3 years since the first episode of Spirit Box Radio!!
In the gloom and misery of 2020, I started writing a show about an unlikely radio host and the unfolding mystery of his past. The day the first episode dropped, it had 24 downloads. Now it's steadily approaching half a million.
93 episodes, 26 voice actors, nearly 28 hours of content, many deaths, at least one resurrection, half a dozen or so Big Emphatic Speeches, and a whole lot of blood and tears, the show is now complete.
Starting soon, I will be revisiting the show chunks of several episodes in a brand new retrospective which will drop fortnightly in the OG SBR feed.
Tumblr media
Each episode of SBRR will focus on several episodes of SBR, starting with SBR 1.1 up to 1.10! I'll be looking at themes, giving insight into the process of making each portion of the show, discussing what I might approach differently, and picking out specific characters to think more closely about their impact in each section of the show!
I'm looking forward to re-exploring the show in this way with you all!
For now, happy birthday, Spirit Box Radio, and remember to stay spooky, faithful listeners!!

Happy Birthday Sam Enfield!!
This is Sam's first post-show birthday, and I'm feeling emotional about it. The show's birthday is the 19th, which a keen-eared listener will have discerned means that Madame Marie's last ever episode of Spirit Box Radio would have aired at 3am on 12/11/2020, the day before Sam's birthday.
To my memory, at no point in the show does he ever bring this up, but it's a sad little extra detail I think makes things just that little bit worse.
Sam's birthdays are likely a lot better in her absence, honestly.
Anyway, I wish you all a very happy Sam's birthday!

it's just five days until Sam Enfield's birthday!
In the last few years, we've run a Dear Magpie event to celebrate, but due to the timing of the show creator's top surgery, this year this hasn't been able to happen.
But, you can still tell us all about your memories of Sam and the rest of the SBR crew, or of the show itself, right here on tumblr!
