I've seen a lot of posts about the Doctor being a dick every time he's chameleon arched and the Master being a total sweetheart.

I can't decide if this happening is because of a Theta/Koschei fate switch thing or if it's a Master's charisma/Doctor's whatever-they've-got-going on.

I mean really it could be either considering the different times this has happened. Honestly I'm kind of leaning toward the Theta/Koschei fate swap thing because that's so DRAMATIC that it makes it more fun to think about.

ALSO I'm just saying I'd like to see them chameleon arched at the same time to see if they would get on like a house fire.

Out of every single relationship in the Whoniverse, whatever the Doctor and the Master have going on just hits different. Like a rock. I’m sure everyone feels this way about their fave Doctor ship, but my experience is that once you go Thoschei, you cannot go back. Given the narrative symmetry, character foiling, interwoven parallels, tragically dramatic irony, frustratingly unspeakable ambiguous romance that defies traditional ship canonization in the true chaotic spirit of Doctor Who, and a unique backstory setup that allows the characters to have history that other individuals cannot match, while fate (and the format of the show) pushes them together over and over again indefinitely, without hope of lasting reconnection lest the setup break, the Doctor and Master’s codependent anti-soulmate life or death partnership arguably cheapens every other pairing beyond comparison. Their tragedy never leaves you. (And keeps you up at night)

(context for the last one: discord server was discussing how funny it would be if all the doctors just spontaneously appeared in some way that referenced their regeneration story. so ten sleeps for 40 hours straight, they pull eleven out from the ground like a carrot, twelve crashes out of the closet ranting about dinosaurs, thirteen falls through the ceiling, etc)

since this seems to be the tangent I am currently on, here we fucking go again with my latest toschei brainrot:

I can’t fucking get over the fact that Theta was meant to be the Master, but that they intrinsecally embodied everything that the Master is and fucking CHANGED THE COURSE OF THEIR FUTURE bc they didn’t want that and so they simply fucking YEETED REAPONSABILITY ONTO KOSCHEI like it was nothing??? I can’t with this child

the worst thing is that you can see it too: everything the Doctor does is always hyper controlled, like they are afraid of letting part of themself go, like they fear that part of themself

AND they always need (almost compusively) to be the ‘good’ guy of the situation, like they have something to prove, almost as if they know that they really aren’t

also, to be completely honest, everywhere the Doctor goes, they bring misery: almost everyone the Doctor meets ends up dead in a way or another, or misplaced in time, or with their heart broken, or with all of the above

though I am not too sure about the Master themself

like, I know that Koschei really wasn’t meant to be the Master, but since they did became the Master, I feel that they too had the potential, just less then Theta, apparently

that’s why they keep on telling Theta that they are two sides of the same coin: because they fucking are!! the same!! (one of them is more cowardly than the other though)

but I dunno, maybe they could also have become the Doctor, or some version of it at least, after all they showed that every time they don’t remember who they are they become an almost normal and genuinely good person (YANA I LOVE YOU, also The Master audio, guys, The Master audio), or that they are at least capable of change (MISSY, MY BELOVED MISSY)

‘who knows, could have been interesting’ I say, normally, while I go back to thinking about thoschei a normal amount. normally.

I desire Deca lore. I want Academy lore. I wanna see that little shit murder a kid in defense of his bestest friend. I wanna see Koschei freak out because Theta got his ass lost in the Cloisters and came out not long later raving about how much time had passed, how the sliders helped him escape even though he was so so scared of them. I wanna see them run through the fields of Koschei's father's land, chasing each other because they have all the time in the world. I want to see them laying together in those fields and ducking into alleyways skipping class and hiding from Borusa.

I love trying to parse together anything about the Doctor's Academy years. He was a "terror" for 120 years. He regenerated one teacher and nearly regenerated a second one. He had no friends until school. he put a teacher in a time loop. He made a bacteria that put multi cellular lifeforms into a coma. He was in a band. It took him two tries to graduate with the bare minimum grade. No one can agree how long he went to school for or if he even graduated. He has a doctorate in cheese making. His friends kept trying to get him to join a rebellion and the government kept erasing his memory about it. The doctor is recorded to have attended a gallifreyan university that doesn't exist.

Like, what is this? I love this. Everything and nothing is canon and the world is a beautiful place.
