Been a while since this captain has sent an update, huh? Between doing base management to get materials for my ship, and making sure the base I have is suitable to live in even after I leave, don't have a lot exciting to report. So how about another story of my training days?
The training mission was simple, more of a glorified field trip really, travel to a few colonies here and there, see what they were growing and how, specifically how they were growing things thier plants shouldn't have the support for, and sometimes eveb with out green houses. Simple stuff really.
While we are leaving one colony and getting ready to head towards the next one, we get a message form them, they are predicting a drought and wanted to know if we could bring them a shipment of water, the captain agrees and we make a detour to a uninhabited fresh water planet, a quick make shift pumping station and a couple hours later our cargo hold is full and we are ready to leave again. During FTL travel we hear something go "thunk" in the cargo hold, captain makes an emergency stop and some of the crew to check it out. One of the barrels of water is busted open. And thus a lot of freaking out on the ship.
Now for some spoilers, this is where I learned not to send students alone to check things. The barrel was not a water barrel, it was a healing water barrel that we have to mix our own to treat minor cuts, burn, etc. It was also busted into, not out of. Like the students thought.
While the captain and the trained protectorates on board were trying to get everything under control with everyone on the bridge, someone peaks over at the ship logs and notices doors are being opened else where on the ship, and everyone is on the bridge at this point so they shouldn't be.
I was one of the few who had any sort of weapons on them, so me and a few of the proper crew go to see what's going. Last door opened was to a hydroponic chamber, one growing pussplums and boneaboos, so we head there.
Once we were in the hall leading to the chamber we hear the sound of metal being torn apart, from the hydroponics chamber, and notice it looks like something has pried the door open, before it opened it self. Once inside some of the plants are destroyed and a vent cover is broken, and what looks like blood (aka boneaboo juice) is all over the floor. At this point everyone is rightfully on edge.
Thankfully hydroponics due need specific air controls so it's vent system isn't part of the rest of the ship, and after tracking it through which doors its opening we finally corner the mysterious creature causing a bunch of chaos and noise.
It's a floran stow away got snuck in with the lander when we went to go water. Apprently they got separated from thier hunting party, and thought they got left by mistake, and then noticed us landing, and mistook us for minikong, which thier hreenfingered warned them about, thus the hiding. And when they broke open the barrel of height water, they assumed it was something dangerous, and decided they lived in the vents now.
Luckily for them, while they offer almost nonthing, the boneaboos and pussplums they snatched aren't the worse thing for a floran to eat, and we had other carnivores on ship.
We brought them with us and eventually got in touch with thier tribe and returned them safely.
If you are ever stranded, please don't just stow away on a random ship, some ships don't keep all of thier bays safe for living things during FTL to cut costs, so you don't know where is safe. And, unless they are having thier own issues, a protectorate ship will help you

Were the eyeball people Glitch by chance? I've always wanted to meet a member of the All-Seeing Crusaders and ask them a few questions! Which way did they go?
I had to look this group up, so thanks for the lead, but no, they aren't these all-seeing crusaders. Or if they are, they're an off shoot. From what I can yell, the crusaders seem to hold in the crusaders like beliefs from when they were still in the simulation, or maybe be in a very strange version of it?
The creeps om dealing with seem to been over zealous cosplayers. And while I haven't got my hands on one of thier guns, they look like they were ripped off of an atopus planet, which should say a lot about thier overall mental state

I give your muse a: ᓚᘏᗢ
Oh, a kitty. While small ambush predators are common, few make good pets, cats are the exception. Though, despite them being popular, and for good reasons, they tend to be rare outside of human worlds. But a cat is always welcome as round crops, well ones they won't hurt them that is

So, the agritower is doing it's job well, any my new... tenants? Settlers? Workers? Not sure what to call them, are settling in well, despite the winds. Though more expansion will be needed, while I don't intend on staying here for long, at this point I feel the need to make sure who ever takes over isn't picking up my scraps to make do. But either way, funds are flowing, and I can set aside more than enough to start either getting the materials I need my self, or seeing if the ship mechanic has contacts and better deals than what I know.
That being said, things haven't been all A-Okay here, and I might need to see if I can find some mercs to hang around as guards. They aren't raiders, but several groups of strange people, wearing helmets resembling eyeballs have shown up tp cause trouble. Harassing the people here, and attempting to threaten me. Despite being fans of the occult, they seem to not understand my staff is in fact real, and does in fact hurt. Thankfully they are bullies AND cowards, its getting to the point if I show up, they beam back to their ship, and hot jump away before I can get back to mine to tag them. I guess I'll need combat specs on my ship... (OOC: Yeah no, my tentants like spawning the "group of mobs quests" and every time it has been eyeball cultists? Also, no pictures because of building block)

Examine! The kitchen on the top floor of the tenant building and the shocking lack of a fridge. (ooc, the red appliances are adorable. What mod are they from?)
It's a rather basic kitchen, we aren't making anything super fancy right now. The lack of cold storage is a bit of an oversight, but as it stands, we have fresh crops always on hand, and me and most of the tenants are currently eating a lot of sweet breads that aren't hard to make, but I do need to get one set up (ooc: CN farming I do believe is the mod, its a major overhaul so beware)

For the character appearance meme: ☼, ✍, ♔, 👠, and Ұ?
Bunch of these, okay Rolling theses into one, how do I normally dress? I normally wear my protectorate uniform if I'm working, they are meant to be multiple purpose anyway. If I'm off, I'll admit to wearing as little as possible, I do enjoy using my wings when I can, and clothes are heavy. What jewelry do I wear? Very little, though when I do feel like it, I do have a small collection of light beads I wear as a necklace What shoes do I wear? Either some simple boots if I'm working, or some light athletics shoes if else
How tall/short am I compared to my peers? The protectorate as a whole, Saturnians are rather short, but among saturnians I am neither tall or short

Have you tried flying a kite during one of the hurricanes? I did last time I was on a planet with one. Great fun! Until the kite was ripped out of my hands anyway.
I have not. During most days it would be manageable, but with how quickly the wind whips up sunddenly kite would be gone rather quickly, its one of the reasons the outside of the buildings lack any decorations, they'd be gone rather quickly

So, apprently, this planet has a hurricane season. Now, if you've been reading you might think "grate, the wind storms are a seasonal thing" you'd be wrong, that was the calm season. Which make it really fun because now that people have moved in, more people want to move in, and they of course ask about the wind, which my best awnser is "nornaly, it's only sometimes this windy" so yeah. Progress on structors have been slow, might need to move some of my ulitiy plans underground.
In other news, a high mage stopped by after hearing about me, he had his own stuff to handle, but he did give me the blueprints for some high grade robes, so with thoese I should be sage to venture and go get better resources for both this little colony that's sprung up and my ship.
Issue is, it needs amber, a specific type of amber at that, thankfully it's not hard to make artificial samples of the stuff, but the only base that has been found is specialized honeys. Geuss I'm a bee keeper now as well

Right, I need help, people need housing, so I guess I'm a landlady now? Won't be the first time a protectorate became one. Atleas for now, some of my kin have taken up residence in my little set of apartments, though not sure how long some of them will hang around though. About the time they all got moved in with their basics, a hurricane hit. Well, I say "Hurricane" they're more like super intense wind storms, few clouds in the sky, rarely any rain, and if there is, it seems happenstance. These windstorms are strange. (ooc: So something intresting I have discovered, I think doors count as racial blocks for housing? I meant to only spawn one saturian tenant, but every room spwaned one. I knew the light should have counted, but even with them taken down and a simple torch inplace, a saturian spawned)

(Hope you reblogging that post meant you were open to this! Also ooc ask: what's your favorite tree you've encountered in Starbound? I've always liked the cloudy/fluffy ones but the metal ones are interesting from a worldbuilding point of view. I always wonder if they evolve naturally or were they engineered to be that way.) Examine! The view of the planet below from your hydroponics tower.
(first of all: Yep, if I reblog anything that looks like an ask starter to this blog, assume its an invite to do as such. Second: I rarely pay attention to trees, so cloudy/fluffy trees tend to be my favorite for looks, or the ones that give plant fibers for resources) Ignoring my green house and the area I've cleared, the forest below is rather dense, and hides a hilly terrain, and plenty of fungal undergrowth that still needs investigation., that supports plenty of fauna as well. An uninhabited planet that is perfectly habitable, a good first base for a new protectorate captain.
While difficult to see from atop the tower, this planet lacks something, the planet is in a near permanent wind storm of some level, yet, save for the flying fauna, few creatures seem to make use of the wind. I can't help but wonder if the winds are a new thing to this planet. There's a small flat(ish) area to the easy, giant fungal trees grow there, and else where. Though they may need be removed, and a new structure, some housing, might need be in their place. This sector seems to lack major coloys, and houses.
But for now, I must examine the agritower's ladder, a hurricane is picking up, and I don't feel like finding my way back via the agritower

Here is why I like hydro/aeroponic farming techniques over tradition farming, while it requires more set up, these few crops would need so, so much more land for anything better than manual watering. Or I can build a Hydroponics tower and call it a day.
Tumblr media
And I'm sure I could make this even more compact than what this is, if I was building each floor with a specific crop in mind, and not a one size fits all approach. Rice, wheat, sugar, sunflowers, cotton, and coffee in here for now, a mix of stuff for my self, and to sell to the supplier. Who were also kind enughe to give me some automated helpers.
Tumblr media
These little guys, while not the best and need "trained" according the rep seem to be happily trudging along watching the crop, I was warned they may rip out plant while being trained though, so can't trust them with rare crops, but with how easy these seeds are to get, shouldn't be an issue.
Still, for crops that need more care, I might need to hire some help... Prehaps it's time to get some apartments up and going? This sector does seem to have a lack on real colonies, and once I get my ship built, abandoning this place to root seems like a waste.

So, core processing is up, it is slow, but one it runs for a while I can use the stuff it's spat out it replace it, in the mean time, who wants 5o hear training stories? This one has some official log number I've forgotten, but as the rest of the crew dubbed it, here is "the angel incident"
Me and the rest of the crew under captain Aumu were in what we thought was an uninhabited system learning how to do ship repairs with out the luxury of being able to land, this ship had plenty of back up systems so we could acutaly break things and not have to send a SoS our selves, doesn't stop us from getting them though
In the middle of a project we get an odd and very janky SoS call from one of the near by planets, captain Aumu was able to tell it was someone sending the single manually so someone probably crashed, good thing we have plenty of spare parts, training was done for the day.
Captain takes us down in a lander near where we think the SoS was coming from, one we are in the atmosphere we can even see where it was coming from, a large town with stone walls, signs of a glich settlement, some who liked thier old timey anesthetics it seems, but can't land in town so just out side we go
After we land we grab some general supplies and head towards the city, only to be met by the sounds of mechicnals hooves and a priest by the name of Brightward, who gives us some fun news. He's self aware, there are some "bandits" out in the woods are recently self aware who are freaking out, and he has three other "heratics" who are also freaking out because they just learned they are robots, the rest of the several thousand population of this city? Still running the simulation.
For thoese who don't know, the glich were built by someone for some unknown reason, the assumed reason is to see how civilization grows, however most of them got stuck in medieval or dark ages, with thoese becoming more advanced destroying them selves. With some glich becoming self aware and figuring this out, there is an issue with this though, since self aware glich are a threat to the experiment, the rest of them treat self aware gliches are vile, evil people who need destroyed. Most likely why these two groups got branded heretics who need to be executed, and bandits who are wanted dead or alive, though what ever crimes they are accused of the sentence will be death. So that's fun, we have no glich personal on this crew, and any alien races for those in the simulation just get resolved as forginers, and our tech gets explained a way in thier code as odd trinkets or some such. Geuss who wasn't properly accounted for in thier code? The only winged crew mate, me.
We end up splitting the crew, the more combat capable crew goes to track down the "bandits" while the rest of us see how we are getting the heretics out of the city, the prefered execution method for heretics is burnings, so thier circuits melt, so simply moving them out while they play dead is a no go, thankfully, a plan presents it self when we apporch the guards at the gate.
The high priest, how he manged to maintain his sheraude is impressive, tell the guards we are travelers under his protection, and to let us come and go as we need, the guards aren't listening, they are staring at me. Once they finaly come through one of them explains "awe. An angel as arrived to fix our problems" and runs off, yelling that sentence.
It doesn't take long for us, and by us I mean *me* to be swarmed by peasants asking for blessing, a lot of glich discover "magic" and I had my light wand on hand, so with some quick thinking I'd play along with the captain and a few others making sure I don't get harmed, while the high priest and the rest smuggle the heretics out while I give out some "minor bleasings" easy right? The glich are a confounding race even to them selves.
Who here knows about the placebo effect? Well glich, despite being robotic suffer from placebos so well, basic clothes bandges legitimately will fix fractures in thier hull, intresting, right? Want to know how powerful the glich placebo is in some cases apparently? As far as we could tell she has no structure or internal damage, but I was brought a dead glich who had died of illness of a few days ago, I made the mistake of saying "I don't think I can do anything for them, but I can bless the body and do what i can" apprently me saying "I think" and "I'll do what I can" meant I'm now a miracle worker, and when that dead glich stood up, the already chaotic down went ballistic.
Meanwhile, the bandit were happy to find some people who listened yo thier "maddness" and were happy to help out, and apparently three guards weren't having any of this "angel" nonsense so the heretics were still behind bars.
At this point, while I'm not given any more corpses minor miracles are apparently what om doing now, when another glich comes running into town, warning the black knight apporches, Black knights are (usaly) the simulations failsafe, or in this case fail deadly. Black knights are oddly immune to a lot of the placebo effects gliches use, both good and bad, and are, well, knights and warlords, so now we have a timer, because it's probably coming to stop my nonsense. Thankfully "throw the heretics to the black knight" got them out, and with some slightly better coms equipment smuggled in for high priest brightward to use to call for help when next he needs to smuggle more "heratics" outs we book it.
The new self aware glich on thier way to a village of others like them selves to get adjusted to thier new life, and the black knight being paid to leave according to brightward, resuce mission success, with no real damage done.
And while my new found "skills" were reported, and I've been in simulation settlements before, none of them have failed to notice me as just a person with wings, not some minor deity, so our side of simple first aid stuff, no special healing powers with the glich sense then.

Send “Examine!” and an item or person and I’ll write an RPG description of it/them.
(For example, a stormtrooper mask:
“A white mask with a black visor on the front. Putting it on, you realise that the visor isn’t even transparent. How are you expected to do anything competently like this?”)
