Consider a modern Eddie having a giant crush on Margot “I fucking love Slipknot” Robbie.
Because that’s where my brain is right now.

Which of you fuckers said “everytime Eddie enters family video in a fic, Seinfeld bass starts playing” - because now I can’t stop it in my head and THIS FIC ISN’T SUPPOSED TO BE FUNNY DAMMIT.

🇨🇦
@estrellami-1 Lol. My brother enrolled in Junior Kindergarten at age 3, then turned 4 before Christmas. Both of us graduated at 17. Maybe it’s a Canadian thing to have 2 years of Optional Kindergarten, but I have had some American friends graduate at 17 as well, so I think it must be the kindergarten systems getting a lil funky.

EHHHH! 🇨🇦 I have a lot of American friends. So I get some info from them. But being from different states, I’m kind of pulling from all of their experiences.

No fear, I have done the math for all of you Fanfic authors so we can stop with the confusion.
Eddie’s Third Try at Senior Year is ‘86
Second try was ‘85, originally supposed to graduate in ‘84
Steve Graduated on time in ‘85
Therefore Eddie is one school year above Steve.
Additionally- as far as I am aware, Middle School is 3 years maximum. So, because of context/middle school talent show:
When Chrissy was in 6th grade, Steve was in 7th, and Eddie was in 8th grade- carrying on until Senior Year kept him back.
So Eddie is two school years above Chrissy.
Ages get a little weirder because I don’t know the Hawkins enrolment cut off/school year start. Some places start in August, others September. Some use age at enrollment, others use birth years etc. but, you can use a general 17-18 for Chrissy/the other ‘86 seniors, 18-19 for Steve/‘85 seniors, and place Eddie 19-20. 21 is kind of pushing it unless you go with a mid-year Appalachian transfer fanon- but again it depends on the enrolment of Hawkins.
I know folks who started kindergarten at 3 because they were big & potty trained, but others were delayed until 5. But 4 is average, ergo, let’s go with averages.
Edit: kindergarten apparently isn’t relevant anyways so let’s be glad it was crossed out anyways.

so i’m rewatching bits and pieces of s4 for fic reasons and it’s hitting me all over again how and why nancy reacts to robin the way she does before and during the library scene. like! nancy has spent every season having to justify why she thinks what she does or, more often than not, fight with someone to try to pursue her theories. barb is missing and no one is listening to her. barb’s death was unfair but steve thinks they should just keep living their lives normally. she knows there’s a story with mrs driscoll but everyone, jonathan included, is telling her to drop it.
so of course in s4 when she has this idea in the back of her mind, her first instinct is to pursue it alone. even though the others are right there, and they know what’s going on. she still thinks no one will believe her, and she’d rather just do it herself than have someone try to tell her no.
and when robin comes with her nancy thinks that she was right, that robin is just another person who is going to doubt her theories and fight her about whether this is worth their time. except, robin does believe her, she’s just trying to get the information she needs to keep up with nancy. and once they finally get on the same wavelength, everything clicks. robin not only supports nancy’s theory, she takes it and runs with it, and suddenly they have the foundation they need to figure out everything.
and what gets me even more is that, from that moment on, nancy keeps robin at her side. she’s keeping an eye out for her, standing near her in the group, letting her ride shotgun. even when she doesn’t fully trust robin at pennhurst, she still chooses her. and robin proves her wrong again, so nancy keeps choosing her and keeps trusting her.
idk man i just love how strong their dynamic is, and how clear it is that this is good for both of them. for robin to have someone other than steve see her and accept her and care so deeply for her after being the odd one out at the end of s3. and for nancy to have someone finally in her corner, supporting her and believing in her without trying to get with her. they fit so well and their arc in s4 is such a treat, i love it so much

DO IT
I support Goldilocks!AU so hard. Twould also be funny if Steve and Eddie ended up completely using nicknames for one another so Dustin has no clue he’s hyping them up to the other despite them already being friends.
Wayne specifically would just be such a positive influence. AND YES, Steve wouldn’t keep Wayne out of the loop! They’d be able to have Wayne run interference (even if it got him in trouble at the plant, but once Wayne hears “shady government folks” his back is up and he’s ready to go down swinging bc his mama didn’t raise a yellow bellied coward ready to roll over for them goons to come and pin it all on his boys; also tell me that man wouldn’t see Nancy Wheeler with her shotgun and go, “need another gunner?”)

im sorry but the shift of steve being a whole ass homophobe in season 1 to him randomly accepting robins lesbianism in season 3 and “clocking” vickie in season 4…. yall fall for shit ass lazy ass writing all the time and then get mad at people like who call it out. anyway im awake now
#people do change#and it’s not even overnight#it was a fight in season 1 and then almost two years in canon#idk about you but I went from casually biphobic to coming out as bi in less of a time span#and no this isn’t projection bc I don’t think canon Steve is intended to be Bi so I’m not coming at it from that angle#but in general a lot of folks do use homophobic language without actively being homophobic#and it’s a reason why critiquing language is so important nowadays#like Queer was never a slur for my area#Gay was the go to insult to call someone stupid#but I literally remember someone switching from That’s so Gay to saying A Gay Person and we were like? huh? a stupid person? just say idiot?#and it was a group of us going??? wait that’s a thing??? weeeeirddd#ah middle school memories#and you ask any of those kids who said Gay as an insult today#idk they probably would just go Oh yeah that’s messed up bc they grew up and got surrounded by a different environment that didn’t support#that kind of speech#because literally we were all in catholic school and idk I suppose that’s similar but not the same to a close minded small town in terms of#permissible homophobia and then you get into the real world and oops gay people exist#and you never had a strong stance on it#but hey Jeff in your Tutorial has a boyfriend and he’s pretty nice#so ? maybe gay people aren’t stupid or bad#and if it turned out to be your friend who came out to you#and it was all just stupid shit you never exhamined until now#your strong positive feelings towards the person would override whatever latent cultural homophobia you had#dependant on where the homophobia was coming from#like Jason Carver for instance is shown to have his attitudes stem from evangelical Christianity#whereas s1 Steve is just a bully#and you can assume it’s just stemming from a place of Everyone Else doing it so He does it#you know piggybacking off rumours#but Jason is out there jumping to conclusions and organizing a mob based on his biases#idk

Oh my goodness! If you want to expand on this, you certainly could. I would adore it. HOWEVER, it’s got such a strong sense of “Steve is going to be okay” on its own the way you left it. The Goldilocks comment is specifically so pointedly good and in character (it also capitalizes on those Season 3 Highlights!) Wayne would be that kind of kind stranger. The way Steve is so confused he lets himself be taken care of, but it’s also only because he’s too scared of letting people who know him know him deeply. It just makes me a little sad that maybe if he knew Wayne properly, or even knew he was Eddie “The Freak” Munson’s Uncle, he would have ducked away and kept walking until he really hurt himself.
Short little ficlets like this are delightful. You should be proud of this one.
The night of the events of Starcourt, Steve lies about his parents being home because he doesn’t want to impose on anyone else. So he says his parents are waiting for him back home and Joyce drops him off to get some rest.
Steve gets home and immediately realizes it’s a horrible idea, he’s concussed, confused, alone, scared, and in pain.
He panics and ends up walking through the woods alone where Wayne finds him when he’s getting home from work.
Wayne freaks out over the injured sailor boy that looks like he hasn’t slept in days and who is confused about how he got there.
He convinces Steve to come in for coffee, but when they get inside Steve starts looking around fascinated by every little trinket. he ends up in Eddie’s room,
“Where am I?” he wonders and even through the questions and fears it makes Wayne chuckle,
“This is my nephew’s room” He answers looking at Steve walk around with stars in his eyes at the mess.
“He must be really cool,” he tells Wayne.
Wayne nods and smirks but then Steve catches his own reflection in the mirror,
“is that me? Jesus no wonder you look so worried, I look like shit”
And he says something that breaks Wayne’s heart a little, “I’m sorry,” and he looks so sad too, and so honest like he really thinks him not looking okay is a problem for Wayne. Like Wayne would get mad at him for not being ‘presentable’.
“I should leave,” Steve says.
Wayne raises his arms in mock surrender,
“Woah, no kid, it’s fine, you don’t look that bad, I was only worried because you look tired. When was the last time you slept?”
Steve thinks for a while and frowns, “I don’t remember…”
“Why don’t you rest here in this cool room,” Wayne asks him with a kind smile, “and then will get that coffee, ok?”
Steve agrees and falls asleep the second his head hits the pillow.
Wayne sighs and leaves the room, he sits on the couch and sees on the tv the news about the fire.
It’s an explanation, not the whole truth but it’s something. Clearly, Steve was there but that doesn’t explain the bruises, the confusion, the fear. He feels like something else might be going on.
And why on gods earth was that kid all alone?
Eventually, he falls asleep too.
.
So when Eddie gets home from spending the night at Jeff’s after a gig, he finds his uncle sleeping on the couch and doesn’t find it weird at all, he tiptoes to his room for a change of clothes and there he finds the fucking former king of hawkings wearing the skimpiest sailor uniform sleeping on his bed, and for a second he thinks 'is it my birthday?’ but then Steve turns in his sleep and Eddie sees his face and thinks 'shit’
He is instantly worried, no matter how much he dislikes jocks, no one deserves to be brutalized like that.
And to ruin that beautiful face? A crime.
Once more he tiptoes into the hallway and goes where his uncle is slowly waking up. He gets close, real close so when Wayne opens his eyes the first thing he sees is Eddie blinking at him.
Wayne jumps a little and bites back a curse, “Jesus kid!”
Eddie chuckles, “Sorry, Wayne. Might telling me about the little sailor in my bed?”
Wayne sighs and tells him.
.
When Steve wakes up a bit later is to the sound of Eddie’s acoustic. He’s sitting in his desk chair, plucking a sweet and soft melody,
“Morning goldilocks,” he tells him with a smile.
Steve, who had a bunch of excuses and apologies lined up already frowns, and inclines his head, “Goldilocks?”
“I found you sleeping in my bed, didn’t I?” Eddie answers sweetly.
Steve blushes, he can’t help it, and once more instead of getting up and leaving he gets distracted by Eddie’s whole deal.
“I’m not even blond” he argues.
Eddie bows his head at him, as if to say he got him there, but then says,
“You have locks of hair that look golden in the sun, goldilocks”
Steve really hopes the bruises cover his blush, he really, really hopes. But judging from Eddie’s smile, he can’t tell it’s not the case.
“I should leave,” he says moving slowly to the edge of the bed.
Eddie places his guitar on the desk and turns to fully look at him, “You don’t have to. If you don’t want to,” he points to something on the bottom of the bed, “Look, clean clothes and my fluffiest towel, why don’t you take a shower and then we drink that coffee my uncle promised?”
And Steve’s heart hurts with how much he wants that. He doesn’t want to be alone, he wants to stay here with the kind wonderful man he met last night and Eddie, who played guitar for him while he slept and thinks his hair is golden, but still…
“Are you sure? I don’t want to impose”
Eddie snorts and mouthes 'impose’ to himself before leaning closer and looking Steve in the eyes,
“I’m sure, Goldie. Go, shower. I’ll go put the kettle on”
And steve can’t do much more than nod and smile shyly at him.

Okay okay okay, so killing people off in stories needs to have weight (consequences) in both emotional and plot relevancy. The writers themselves even know this, as Steve’s been saved from the chopping block a number of times before.
Hopper’s death before they saved him worked because we had our hero/main plot character El emotionally devastated. It also gave a tragic end to Jopper, and the kids all had to grow up a bit in general because their main force protecting them from the Lab/Government was gone. Joyce however adopts El, El is a Byers kid now, so the tragedy has logical fallout and we aren’t like “that was needlessly mean” bc she has a support system. Versus like, Alexei for shock or Billy for “we need a death and evil boi must go”.
Now- I can see an excellent case being made for Will, El, or Jonathan. Will would devastate the party & his story has been so tragic anyways. A sacrifice to bring down Vecna could be his big hero moment. However, unless they wrapped up this love triangle, it wouldn’t be satisfying bc that plot thread is too entangled with coming of age narratives. Jonathan also could be a loss of innocence for Will, but it would be unsatisfying for Jonathan’s arc bc they complicated it with distance from Nancy (it’d be better if he and Nancy were making it work, then he was cut off before they got a chance to get back 100%. Right now they’re 5 seconds from break up so it’s not tragically beautiful). Also, Jonathan hasn’t been central for a little while so it’s a cop out, but it could be cool if Jonathan made sure his little brother never had to deal with the UD again via his death.
El is probably the ballsiest move to kill off. It could be narratively satisfying- but also killing your MC needs to be balanced really well, with a lot of foreshadowing or proper lead up that it doesn’t turn your viewers off entirely.
That being said- narratively speaking, Steve is the easiest to kill because you’re not killing a kid. You don’t have to rearrange plot arcs bc he’s muscle/bruiser/driver not an active investigator. You do lose an important leadership role, but Hopper is back and Nancy is stepping up, so the stakes could also be raised because the Tank isn’t there to act as their meat shield. Also, he is emotionally connected to a number of people, so you get a great payoff of grief without a lot of moving parts falling through the cracks. (Bc if you kill Will, Joyce will go nuts and the Party loses motivation. If El goes, where is the heavy hitter psychic? If Jonathan goes, not enough emotional impact.)
Steve is the obvious choice. He is the blorbo but he’s also there to be beaten up, he has no interior life, and Max, Lucas, DUSTIN, Robin, and Nancy would all have really complicated emotions over the situation. You could also have Joyce and Hopper feeling guilty as hell a teenager (well, legal adult) went down on their watch.
Ok I need to know, if you HAD to kill off one of these characters who would it be?
