Hi! Not sure if you've answered this before because I come from the tags, but do you happen to know (or estimate) how far are we in the manga from the scene where jinshi and maomao almost sleep together? If it's much then I might have to search for the LN but I rather see it in the manga. Thanks!

I can't say for sure but it would be long..at least for the Nekokurage manga (which is the one that gets english translations). The manga has been running for almost 7 years now and is in the middle of volume 3 of the novel. The scene you're waiting for happens in volume 13 of the light novel so..yea it would take really long to get there with the current pacing and monthly release schedule.

Sasuke poking Sakura's forehead still fucks me up so badly. Here's why.

Not just for the most obvious reason, that is, that gesture meaning the world to Sasuke - it's his ultimate expression of love, he just couldn't think of a better nor more meaningful way to declare his devotion. With that simple gesture, he's promising Sakura everything - that he'll be back, that they'll see each other again, and that she'll finally be by his side. He's promising her they'll be together together, he's promising her a better version of himself, a family - like I said, everything, but only after he feels like he's worthy and deserving of it, meaning after he atones for his past sins.

But what fucks me up the most is that he poked her on the forehead, of all freaking places. That's just how Itachi used to do it, but knowing how Sakura felt about her forehead when she was younger? Wow, just wow.

And speaking of her insecurities, what's another one? Yes, not being enough, not being as strong as Naruto and Sasuke, being weak. Sakura constantly thinks she's not good enough, and what's a tangible proof of her strength? What's a tangible proof that she has, indeed, come a long way since her genin days?

The seal on her forehead.

The body part she used to be the most insecure about literally displays how much she was able to grow and how much she had to overcome to become the powerful kunoichi she is.

See where I'm going with this?

It's so heartbreakingly beautiful that Sasuke's ultimate expression of love is also something that is capable of completely erasing Sakura's insecurities, because not only she used to be ridiculed for her forehead, but the forehead itself is also where the tangible proof of her new found strength is - the same strength she always wanted Sasuke to acknowledge.

And that's why she was so mesmerized by the gesture without even knowing the magnitude of his meaning to Sasuke.

Because it just meant the world to her as well.

every single time I see this sort of post on twitter doing numbers I think about how the Naruto fandom dealt with SasuSaku having this. Like somehow it ended up being THE reason for why they shouldn't have ended up together when it's really just ignoring context. Sasuke was raging and Sakura held a kunai to his back when he least expected it, what did they expect him to do?

The only times he tries to kill her was when he knew she was there to kill him and when she literally held a Kunai at his back. The moment where he's more level headed and has his goals clearly set on fighting Naruto and reforming the Shinobi, he puts Sakura in a genjutsu so she wouldn't interfere with their fight. Because he didn't want her to die from stepping in between them like she did in their rooftop fight, where Naruto and Sasuke's attacks had to be stopped by Kakashi.

This trope and the enemies to lovers trope seemingly gets so much love until it actually happens in a series that has a fandom full of people with pea sized brains. Then suddenly any and all development doesn't happen and the ship just..stays in that moment. Is defined by them trying to kill each other.

I feel like a lot of people don't pay it a lot of mind because it's mostly played for laughs when Maomao thinks about how anyone, even men, would want to throw themselves on him. But then we have Jinshi's point of view's and it's always him remembering women pinning him down until Gaoshun dragged them off of him and this situation with the eunuch who wanted to make him "his toy" (sir this is an early teen respectfully back the fuck off)

Makes it even weirder that the emperor uses Jinshi (his own son..) to test the concubines loyalty to him.

Guys it just hit me but Jinshi pretended to be an eunuch since he was 13 (If I did the math correctly) and in LN volume 13 (the night visit chapter) we find out on his first day as a eunuch a man dragged him into a bush and was about to sexually assault him had Gaoshun not found him. WHEN HE WAS 13. That's so fucked up on so many levels oh god

truly makes me think about what the pedo emperor Jinshi's grandpa may have thought about when he saw him for the first time. I mean, it's already really telling that Jinshi has been hidden from him up until that point and Anshi immediately went in front of Jinshi to protect him.

I honestly don't understand how there are knh readers who genuinely want Jinshi to become emperor.

From our perspective, sure, he would seem like he'd make a great emperor but Jinshi simply isn't confident in his abilities being good enough for this position. Which is sad, him being forced to grow up so early did lead to his attachment issues and low self esteem after all and it would be great if he became more confident in himself but becoming emperor simply wouldn't make it happen.

More than that, Ah-Duo in the recent web novel chapter even says he's too close to people and we SEE that. He's selfless, he wants to help everyone regardless of if it would be beneficial for politics or himself, he just does it because he's that kind of person. He's already overworking himself due to this selflessness and Ah-Duo recognizes that if he were to become emperor, it would mean an early death. In order to be a good emperor, he would need to not view others as his equal and conceal his real self. He would hate every second of it.

I just..don't see how that ending is something to wish for? When Jinshi himself has never wanted to be emperor since he was 13 at least.

Is it a possible ending? Yes (sadly). Would it be a happy ending? No. Perhaps bittersweet, if Maomao were to decide to stay by his side anyway but it would sting a lot that Jinshi couldn't achieve what he's wanted for so long: to choose his own path, not to take on the position that he was unlucky enough to be born in.
