You're lucky that Chevalier feels anything for you.

Chevalier takes and takes and takes and you are no exception to that. You aren't even sure what there is for him to take from you anymore. You have nothing to give, nothing in comparison to a prince who has everything but wants for the world.

He doesn't care for your smile, he doesn't care for trying to bring out any form of true affection or fondness for him from you.

He doesn't care how much he has to hurt you because when he takes, he takes whatever he can. He will pull at your heart until there is nothing left of you because he wants everything that you can give whenever you know you can give it or not. Whether you want to or not because you cannot deny him.

You cannot deny the second prince who holds more power than any person in the kingdom. You cannot deny him when he forcefully pulls you to his side - for what reason you aren't sure - and nor can you when he leaves a meeting early and all you can do is helplessly follow after him while his hand grips around your wrist in a way that he knows will leave your skin horribly bruised.

He's selfish but you don't know for what. You don't know what he wants when he leaves you bruised and bloody. You don't know what he wants when his sword is pointed at your throat. You don't know what he wants when his boot digs so hard into your ankle that it audibly snaps before he does the same to the other.

He doesn't say either. He expects you to know, to understand him immediately and bend to his every whim. He expects you to stay quiet whenever he decides to be 'kind' and pick you up, silencing your sobs and putting you on his lap rather than forcing you to walk on broken ankles, and proceeds to read silently.

You're lucky that Chevalier feels anything for you because there is so much worse that he can do. The pools of blood that collect beneath you are nothing in comparison to the stained walls of the dungeons and whatever used to be your room.

It's more blood than air there at this point. But it could be worse. You cling to that when you no longer see any of the other princes around the palace.

They were lucky that Chevalier cared enough for them to make it quick.
