Hi teddy,

I want to learn Korean, but have no idea where to start. How long did it take you and what resources did you use? Thanks <3

ooh ofc !! 

so your first step is learning hangeul! some people swear by ttmik, but i used a website/textbook called Korean From Zero, as well as a youtube series by KoreanClass101 which iirc was called like Hana Hana Hangeul or something like that

the first reason for this is bc ofc it’s super helpful and you’ll need to know it to fully learn, but the second reason and inspiration to properly get comfy with it before you move on to learning the language, is that romanisation sucks ASS it’s so shitty every korean learner that has been studying for a while would agree (not everyone uses the same letters for the same sounds so it can trip you up, plus there’s so much room for confusion when it comes to sound changes) 

step number two is to gather resources and sort out a schedule that fits you. i was a big fan of Korean From Zero, because it teaches grammar, conversation and vocab simultaneously and has heaps of like audio clips to go with the words/sentences so i recommend that!!! i actually printed out the pdf of their course textbook and used that, it cost like $20 to print the whole thing out i believe

if you’re a fan of kdramas, variety shows, music, i suggest trying to really tune in and see what words or phrases you can pick up! you’d be surprised at how much you’ll learn since a lot of phrases in korean are super common and so you hear them often. 

i’ve been self studying on and off since probably the end of 2018, but i have only progressed like 3 ttmik grammar levels since i was doing it outside of university. at the moment i can kinda understand the basics and kind of connect the dots when listening even if i don’t understand it all (my co-teachers have already started just talking to me in korean and i’m like 0.0 ok teddy focus)

now that i’m here in korea i really want to get more diligent in my studies, so if anyone else has tips to add to help anon and myself, much appreciated !!

Fansite pack by @taezs

It’s finally here!

I made a fansite a while ago and asked if anyone would be interested in a matching page pack. I got a few requests to go for it, but because I have no self control I ended up completely revamping the whole theme and making an additional blog theme (as well as the three matching pages). If you are currently using the older version, I highly recommend updating to the new code as there was a bunch of stuff that had to be fixed - most of the content you will have put into the html (like admins, links etc) will be easily pasted across as it’s mostly the styling that’s changed.

Includes:

Fansite theme

FAQ page (fairly simple so can be used as an about page/some other text-heavy page)

Members page (can also be used as a blogroll)

Navigation/tags page

Head to @fansitepreview to check out the live preview as well as find links in the pinned post to preview all four codes (download links on the previews)

Options include:

500px posts (540px if one sidebar)

Header, overlay, image, text, links all optional

Sidebar (choose one or two)

Sidebar boxes including: sidebar image, about, description, information, admins, affiliates, search bar, schedule, projects, quick links

Small text removed (it looks great on your dash but it’s removed for easier readability on the blog)

And then the point/idea of the matching pages is that you are able to transfer over any boxes from the main theme to the matching pages.
