i've just got back from seeing cowbois at the swan, rsc and i have so many f e e l i n g s about it.

i've never felt such intense queer joy and pride in being a queer person.

the scene between lou and jack will be a moment in my heart and heat for god knows how long to come

but the one thing that got me the most, was seeing the mix of audience, there was of course the girls, gays and theys, but there was middle to elderly aged (and im assuming) cis het couples, people who you look at and wouldn't think they would spend their time and money on seeing a play about queer gender bending cowboys.

i just cant get over this bloody play. its absolutley hilarious, the dancing and the singing are precious, the 'water' scene was immaculate and the fan-ography left me in stitches.

GO SEE COWBOIS.

the way One Last Stop has so many central queer characters............ a black girl with a love for all things engineering and artsy is in love with a psychic latine trans man with tattoos and more plants in his apartment than in the amazon rainforest. a gay jewish tattoo artist who is very secretive and rarely speaks and the black drag queen across the hall who is in love with him (whom he is also in love with but refuses to tell). a fat bisexual girl who never had friends and now has a family to call her own. a punk asian lesbian from a time when living and loving was inherently an act of survival finally feeling peace and closure. all living together. all finding their place in the world together.

One Last Stop is a love letter to the modern queer success story and truly prioritizes the importance of building, not only a community, but a famiy to surround yourself with. it's brilliant.

so we’re all familiar with the little animations that happen during important romantic scenes

but let’s talk about Issac. Issac spends most of the season confused about his sexuality and feeling that something is wrong with him.

When he discovers asexuality at the art school, he gets the leaf animation we’re used to seeing for the couples. When the art about crush culture is being explained to him, Issac can see that the artist is proud of being asexual; eager to explain his identity to a stranger viewing his piece. He is overwhelmed with the fact that he not only isn’t broken, but that his sexuality is something someone could be so proud of having.

The leaves still represent love, but instead of romantic love, it’s self love.
