Android Market has reached 10 billion downloads worldwide

Spotify gets Apps

And how cool it is too! From Last.fm apps through to mood music apps and even lyric apps so that you can sing along, Spotify is beginning it’s rise to dominance over the music market.

So many people are trying to dominate this music market right now. iTunes was leagues ahead of the rest with the iPod being so strongly integrated into it’s ecosystem, but Apple introduced the app, and with that opened up the market to other music discovery systems. Apps are great, but will ruin iTunes. Didn’t think of that did you Apple? No longer do you need an iPod. Everything is done directly from your smartphone, and with that Spotify just has to place it’s app alongside the music app in your phone and watch your Music app weep.

Spotify’s huge library is now open to all these other third party apps too. That means Spotify doesn’t need to add in a mood app or better Last.fm integration, they will do it for them! If you’re like me and love discovering new music, having a library as large as Spotify’s to search around and get recommended music from is a pleasure. Then if third party apps do that too, I’m in music heaven!

To all those who complain Spotify should be free, get on board man, or I’m afraid you’re going to be left behind (Social Network quote, smiles). Subscription music is the way forward. We live in an instant world. Do you really want to sit there and have to download an album from iTunes that costs £7.99? What a waste of time and money. I play £10 for Spotify a month and I discover £50-60 worth of music easily in the same amount of time. Why pay for individual songs or albums when with Spotify music is there ready for me to search, click and play instantly?

Spotify will one day be called the iTunes killer. iTunes used to be forward thinking, now it’s behind the times. I hated using iTunes when I was a uni. I was waiting for something to come along and replace it, and Spotify has done just that. Wireless updates to my iPhone now also mean I never have to open iTunes, ever. Ahhh, bliss. Spotify rules and I’m on board, man.
