so odo ended up with his name through a particularly confused cross-cultural game of telephone, and it's a shortened form of the cardassian word for 'nothing', odo-ital (very heartwarming, wholesome childhood memories all round etc.). Does. does this mean that to garak's ears the head of security on the station is named something like 'constable nah'

I imagine, that they could be an outside businessperson, like Quark, who was there during the cardassian rule and stayed after the Federation took over. So...there would be a small issue in the beginning, since for the last n+1 years, they've only done cardassian military haircut or the updos some of the women wear. So, the Starfleet personnel would have to suffer through a bit of trial and error.

Babe, @bngrc was calling you a hypocrite. A hypocrite is someone who encourages people to "save their rage for" the people whose hobbies are exactly the same as theirs. Do you not understand what a hypocrite is, and that you are one by writing those hypocritical words in your post?

Do you think it's a rebuttal to say "actually I love Star Trek" after being accused of being a hypocrite for insulting people who love conlangs on your star trek blog?

Babe, nothing in that ONE SENTENCE is anti-Trek or anti-fandom or even, for that matter, anti-conlangs (it's specifically a statement about their prioritization on Duolingo, I've already made it clear in other posts I don't see anything wrong with them and think they're p cool actually), and reading comprehension is free to learn and use. You and that person should try it sometime! It really is an important life skill that will take you places far beyond this website. As someone who doesn’t suck at it, it was clear to me from reading their whole post that between the assertions that important people like Trek like it’s something I don’t know, and asking what as a primarily fandom blogger I’m doing on the fandom site, they weren’t accusing me of “being a hypocrite” they were genuinely unaware that I’m an actual Trekkie. Which, I'm not a fan of gatekeeping and not everyone's seen every show, but if you don't know what Cardassians are maybe you shouldn't be the one to determine who is/n't a Trekkie?

Anyway, I’m finding it interesting that y’all keep trying to make the point that conlangs don’t take up space needed for other language learning (made very well by the first person who said it to me, the bitchy personal attack reblogs weren’t necessary) by… repeatedly derailing a post that was about something else to be about conlangs. Like this much fuss over one sentence is definitely extremely normal.

Using the bathroom in general is a human right and should be enshrined as such and I'm not joking. Too many groups of people are denied bathroom breaks or the use of bathrooms entirely--disabled people, blue-collar workers, children, homeless people, prisoners, students, the elderly. I'm surely missing other groups. Not using the bathroom when needed can cause serious, long-term damage, not to mention death. Free, clean, accessible bathrooms should be available everywhere. It's fucking cruel to deny someone the use of the bathroom, regardless of the reasoning. I'd rather every student in the world goof off and every homeless person make a mess and every worker "steal company time" than let one person suffer because they're denied the right to fucking pee in peace.

Israel had shut off water and electricity from Gaza 110 days ago. One hundred and ten days ago. Most of us would literally not survive this long without clean water and electricity. Look around you right now and tell me how many things in your vicinity depend on electricity. Are you able to imagine a life without uninterrupted access to water? I still remember the old lady who was interviewed in a tent who said "the question you should be asking me is how long ago was the last time I showered".

To know that millions of people have their literal life spans, their movement, their access to water, when they can eat, what and how much they can eat, when and how often they can shower, how and where they sleep - to have it all be controlled and dictated for them while also, simultaneously, the mere idea of providing them with aid is "out of everyone's hands"?

There are fucking miles of aid trucks, filled with essentials, that are stopped right outside of Gaza at the Rafah border, while people inside of Gaza are freezing and starving and dreaming of clean water to drink. How does this not infuriate you?

Fuck Israel and every nation that enables and emboldens it.

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.
