So I was at Kitacon this weekend 18th to 20th August. I was happy to find out that an article I’d written for the con book made it in! (as pictured above). Now that the con is over and I’m home. Here is exactly what I wrote: It feels like only yesterday I would sit and watch the first Digimon (Digimon Adventure (Season 1) on CITV. But Digimon did not start with the Animation. It started on the 26th June 1997 with the release of the Digimon V-Pet in Japan. Yup that's right, Digimon is now officialy 20 years old. Feeling old yet? I am lol as I was 14 at the time! You could raise Digimon like Agumon or even Devimon in the very first V-Pet. Ah if only I had been able to keep my original V-Pets and Digivices. Still, I have been very fortunate to get some of my collection back over the years and have recently ordered the 20th Anniversary from Japan. Digimon Adventure first started in Japan on the 6th of March 1999 and ran for 54 episodes into March 2000. The English dub started to air in America in August 99 to June 2000. We were introduced to the 'original' Chosen Children (Digidestined dub). I have keen memories of writing down the evolution lines while I was watching the dub and this drove me to start my own Digimon website (Digital Starlight) in 2001. Although it is no longer updated, the site still lives. Most of my favourite Digimon and cosplay have come from Adventure. I have cosplayed Vamdemon/Myotismon, Tailmon/Gatomon and Hikari Yagami/Kari Kamiya. I would one day like to cosplay Wizarmon/Wizardmon and PicoDevimon/DemiDevimon. Digimon Adventure Zero Two (02) first started in Japan on the 2nd April 2000 and ran for 50 episodes into March 2001. The dub started in America in August 2000 and ran to May 2001. The Chosen Children expanded a lot, we got new types of evolution (Jogress/DNA and Armour). I would like to cosplay the Digimon Kaiser at some point and was rather disappointed when there were no United Kingdom Chosen in the Digimon World Tour. Also it marked the return of my favourite Digimon villan – Vamdemon/Myotismon. It was towards the end of Season 2 that I was introduced into Real Media clips from Japan that took ages to download on 56k dial up! Digimon Tamers first started in Japan on the 1st April 2001 and ran for 51 episodes into March 2002. The dub started in America in September 2001 and ran to June 2002. We met new Digimon Tamers and their partners and this series was darker than the previous two. Digimon died and were not reborn like previous seasons. This was not expected and depression was tackled in youngsters. Afterall Juri/Jeri's Digimon Leomon died and sent her spiralling. For some, Tamers wasn't popular and for some they loved it. I'm more in the middle ground. Digimon Frontier first started in Japan on the 7th April 2002 and ran for 50 episodes into March 2003. The dub started in America in September 2002 and ran to March 2003. Digimon Frontier never aired in the UK and a friend in Australia ended up taping me the episodes from TV and sending me the VHS'! Digimon Frontier was very different. There were no Digimon partners, the children Spirit Evolved into their Digimon forms. Frontier was considered as 'the end' at one point. People did not like it didn't have partners or the drawn out Royal Knights story line. By the time Frontier ended in Japan. There was no new Digimon show ready to take it's place. There was a hiatus, only broken by a Japanese Movie Digital Monster X-Evolution in January 2005. No humans, just a pure story about Digimon that got rather confusing at times. Then it was back to waiting until... Digimon Savers/Digimon Data Squad. Diginon Savers first started in Japan on the 2nd April 2006 and ran for 48 Episodes until March 2007. The dub, Digimon Data Squad, started in October 2007 and ran to November 2008. Data Squad was aired on an obscure channel called Kix at the time. Digimon Savers followed another new route with 'DATS – Digital Accident Tactics Squad' and the Humans partnered with Digimon were for the most part teenagers (Minus Ikuto/Keenan who was younger). Once again, this season was a little darker as it was shown how Digimon can be 'corrupted' with huamn thoughts' and even went so far to have a Nazi-esq evil human called Kurata who wanted to destroy all Digimon! We were also introduced to Yggdrasil (King Drasil) the god of the Digital World...and once again at set of Royal Knights. Some good..some not so good. Once again, we had another hiatus and paved the way to... Digimon Xros Wars/Digimon Fusion. Digimon Xros ran for 79 episodes in total and was in three different parts. It ran in Japan from 6th July 2010 to March 2012. The dub has only covered the first 54 episodes, Part 3 having not been dubbed. The dub Digimon Fusion started in America in September 2013 and ran to August 2015. Part 1 is just known as Digimon Xros Wars and was 30 Episodes long. Digimon did not evolve as normal at first as they had to Xros using multiple Digimon to create Xrossed up Digimon (I.e Shoutmon X2, X3 X4 etc). Digimon levels as we knew them were thrown out of the window and things were somewhat war like. Part 2 is known as Digimon Xros Wars The Evil Death Generals and the Seven Kingdom and covered Episodes 31 to 54. Bagramon had won and turned the Digital World into his own image and placed several of his Death Generals into the seven single zones. The Chosen having to fight each to re-take back over the Digital World. Part 3 originally wasn't meant to happen and was more of an off shoot of Digimon Xros. It is known as The Boy Hunters Who Leapt Through Time. While it had Taiki/Mikey and Yuu from Parts 1 and 2 it also featured a new set of Characters. Episodes 55 to 79 were covered and are generally considered 'they don't exist' by some fans. Hunters went so far as crossing over with the other Digimon series and bringing in the 'Goggle boys and several other chosen/Tamers cast members' fan service like...which honestly...didn't do it for me. Once again, we had another hiatus and paved the way to something that many Digimon fans were very excited for... Digimon Adventure tri. This is currently still ongoing, with Part 5 Symbiosis of Part 6 airing on 30th September 2017! Tri Part 1: Reunion was released on the 21st November 2015. Part 2: Determination on 12th March 2016, Part 3 Confession on 24th September 2016 and Part 4 Loss on 25th February 2017. Each Episode was released the same day, subbed, in America and other places (sadly not UK) on Crunchyroll. The original eight chosen are back...with a new addition of Meiko and her partner Meicoomon! The Zero Two children (Minus Hikari and Takeru) are 'currently unknown' status. Digimon are getting infected, the infection is making them very strong and attacking the human world. The Chosen, 3 years older after the events of Zero Two, start to take the burden and responsibility of still being Chosen with the attacks happening in the real world. Part 1: Reunion Dub (Japanese Audio and Subs available as well) was released in the UK on DVD and Blu-Ray on 22nd May 2017. Part 2 Determination dub is due out in America on 15th August 2017. At the same time, we currently have... Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters. It started to air in Japan on 1st October 2016 and is still airing. There is currently no dub. It introduces another new casting characters and Digimon are known as Appmon. So far as writing this, there are no 'old school' Digimon. A being known as Leviathan is wanting to turn all Appmon evil and our heroes must stop him! I actually need to catch up on Applimon! It does feel strange that Digimon has, pardon the expression, evolved so much over the years. Not only does it have animation, it has several manga. My favourte of these manga being Digimon Adventure V-Tamer 01. A different Taichi Yagami and his partner Zeromaru the V-Dramon must save the Digital World from Demon and his 'child' Arkadimon. There were also English Adaptations of Season 1 to 3 of the anime with Tokyopop. Digimon is still going strong over 20 years. I hope you have enjoyed the little overview of Digimon and here is to another 20 years! Now the Adventure Evolves. ~Vande~

Mobile Suit Gundam NT Narrative Fathom Event Review

Last Tuesday night I saw the anime film Mobile Suit Gundam NT Narrative IN A MOVIE THEATER OH SNAP! It was in theaters for one night only, at 7:00 PM Eastern dubbed in English and no other times and screenings were available UGH! But since I am a HUGE Gundam nut I had to see this. So this will be my review of the screening event itself and everything that is shown prior to the movie starting. I will review the movie in a seperate post. There will be very slight spoilers, even with me just talking about the pre-screening goodies but I will keep things as light as possible.

FREE advice. If you ever attend one of these Fathom Event screenings do yourself a favor, carry a book bag or a bag of sorts and bring some rubber bands because much like comic book conventions they love to give you FREE posters and expect you to magically get them home in perfect condition. Well I came prepared and got a FREE two sided poster! One side was a poster of upcoming Gundam figures - the Gundam Unicorn, the Gundam Wing 01 (No giant fairy wings SUCK IT ENDLESS WALTZ lol) and the original Gundam. The other side had Gunpla stuff. Later when I got home I hung up the poster featuring the side that did not have Gunpla stuff. ROFL more power to people who mess with that stuff but I'm not building a Gundam ever again! I mean I still have Krazy Glue nightmares from messing with models back in the day. Now that's a young person's game but my FREE advice is that you should always make your Gunpla models based on TEEEEEEEEEEEEAM MARVEL and TEEEEEEEEEEEEAM CAPCOM characters and then you're sure to win prizes in Gunpla contests yup yup! #ImAnthonyAndImNotJustAnAnnoyingGundamFanboyImAlsoThatWayAboutMarvelAndCapcomTooHaveWeMet :P

Before the movie or even the previews began we were treated to images on the screen that detailed the major events in Gundam's Universal Century timeline! So they covered the original Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta, Double Zeta, Char's Counterattack, Unicorn and even the plot of this movie, Mobile Suit Gundam NT Narrative! They did leave off all of the other OVA and spin off series since. BTW, in the movie itself they do mention Colony Drops on Planet Earth, yes DropS as in plural. Now we are always hearing about the Colony Drop on Australia AKA Operation British. It even plays a huge part in Mobile Suit Gundam NT Narrative. However we rarely if ever hear about the second drop in Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory. So this might be the first time it's actually been referenced. Well, I did watch the dub but if this is an addition to the dub and not in the original Japanese then it's a cool addition. With all that, it's too bad that Stardust Memory was not shown in the footage of the Universal Century timeline, since to me it's one of the most important Universal Century OVA series. Cool that it was acknowledged in a small way though.

Onto previews! Most of these were for other Fathom Event special screenings. So if you want to see the black and white flick To Kill a Mockingbird on the big screen well here you go! Hey I'll even go with you! Ooops no wait sorry I'm busy that day. What day was it again? :P Ha well seriously we did get one anime trailer for Fate/stay Night Heaven's Feel 2 which will screen on March 15th! I still don't have a ticket for that yet but will try to get one next paycheck. Like the first one it will screen in Japanese with subtitles hooray! MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM NT NARRATIVE WHY CAN'T YOU DO THAT? ROFL!

So people who prefer to watch anime dubbed and refuse to read subtitles, you thought you were going to attend this screening without having to read? HA HA HA HA HA YOU GOT OWNED HOOOOOOOOOOORD!!!! Well not really but kinda ha ha! Prior to the film there's a few mini interviews with the team who created this anime movie. Even though I hate dubs in almost any and all formats, it's strange to invite people to a dub screening and have them read subtitles at any point in time. Honestly all you need is an ADR director to read out a translation of what the people being interviewed are saying. If it's important for us to hear the staff's voices, then you let the audio play out before you speak over them. This sort of thing is done all the time. Well it's not a huge deal that it wasn't done, but it does make for an odd presentation. I mean I'm sure this is a DVD extra and no one went to any great lengths so it's somewhat understandable.

So the staffers behind the show said that the NT in Gundam Narative stood for either 'Newtype' or 'Narrative.' This movie is supposed to start a new narrative and a new series for Gundam. Hmm I'm not sure it actually accomplishes that, but I'll go into that when I review the film.

And just when the people who hate reading subtitles were about to riot, WABAM! English! We got mini interviews with the English dub actors. Griffin Puatu who plays the lead Jona Basta, and Brianna Knickerbocker who plays Rita Bernal. Brianna is cute BOING OING OING OING OING! As for Griffin, he spoke about how his character wears lots of heavy clothing so he would walk around his house wearing layers of clothes just to get in the mindset of the character ha ha!

Overall this was a fun way to experience a Gundam movie IN A MOVIE THEATER WORD so I give the event itself 4 Viewtiful Joes from the Capcom video game Viewitiful Joe out of 5! I will review the movie itself next week. Well yeah sure I'm going to write a lot because I SAW GUNDAM IN A MOVIE THEATER!!!! IN THE U.S!.!!! IN MY HOME STATE!!!!!!! Man I remember having Gundam VHS tapes in straight up Japanese with no subtitles and I just watched them to see robots fight. Mankind's come a long way. Youngest of 3 with an 8 year age gap and their cousins were also much older, so they were often neglected/emotionally abused. Thought they were part cat until about age 9. Wanted to be a cook since kindergarten. First favourite colour was orange. Picked on alot and didn’t get along well with people. Loved scooby doo, the Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog and SatAM series. Watched Barney and Lamb Chop’s PlayAlong until the VHS tapes burnt out. showed a bunch of signs of being nonbinary including trying on only their dads clothes/mullet wig, peeing standing up, and shouting in confirmation ‘I am a birl, part boy, part girl’. Was introduced to Neopets by their aunt at age 10 and was hooked. Was very close to their aunt until she started getting heavy into prescription drugs, and their parents forbid Remy from driving with their aunt. Describe their teenage years (11 - 19): Avid neopets player and roleplayed until around age 16. Found their favourite band on a friend’s sonic OC page. Started drawing their own sonic OCs on MS paint. All of their friends minus about 3 of them were from the internet, including their best friend Rachel and another person who emotionally abused Remy around ages 14-18. Said person is no longer in their life, yet it wasn’t a one-sided abuse(both were way too young to really know what they were doing to eachother was bad until it was too late). They were battling depression from as early as age 9 when their grandmother passed away from cancer, but really escalated in ages 11-14. They swear that the friends they made on the internet helped them get through it. Were big into anime and manga, with Jpop/Hello!Project becoming a huge part of their life in around 9th grade.Started dubbing under the stage name Pikaru and did dance covers. Many parental issues/self hate issues. Started working at 16 and dedicated their life to the company by the time they graduated, swearing it was the only thing they were genuinely good at/the only thing their parents were truly proud of. Went to their first concert senior year, Berryz Kobou at an anime convention. Went to a Metal concert a few months later. the morning before the concert ultimately severed the bond of Remy and their mother after their mother screamed ‘I hate you’ while in the middle of a heated argument. Since then they can’t say ‘I love you’ back to their mother and doesn’t believe any compliments given to them from her. Describe their adult years (20+): Moved in with their boyfriend for about 1.5 years after Remy’s parents had to move out of state for their dad’s job. Very toxic living situation do to things beyond their/their boyfriend’s control. Went through a depression so bad it almost ruined their relationship. Started experimenting with gender and name around age 19, but started really getting there from age 21-23. Moved back in with their parents to another state when the situation became too much. The toxic friend from the internet officially broke ties with Remy about a year after they moved back in with their parents, completely shattering them(though in the long run being the best thing for both people involved). Worked two jobs for about 8 months with little to no days off, working about 3 months straight with no day off. They landed themselves in a mental clinic for a week between their PMDD, stress from work, and the loss of their ‘friend’. Had to quit their 2nd job. At age 22 they went to Japan for 21 days, a life long goal, and felt more at home there than anywhere in America. Planned to start getting their life together, find an apartment or at the very least start schooling.. until they found out they were moving a couple months later. Moved to the literal hell that was Florida, where it is dangerous to be out and open and where rich white people like to degrade everyone within their path. All of their dreams for a future were thrown in the garbage, and now they are just trying to work their remaining years away. Wanted to go to Tokyo International University for business economics but with the current state of America and the impending doom of another world war, they’ve just about given up on that dream. Would either like to go to TIU still or end up moving back to their hometown/’settle down’ with their boyfriend.
