I think this is the first Cone I ever drew, in December 2012. At the time, I had no idea that several years in the future, this series would become so dear to me—and would introduce me to so many wonderful people!

One thing I notice about the Taika hate especially in regard to Rita is the way the haters really idolise Taika's first wife Chelsea Winstanley and put her on a pedistool, according to them, she is this goddess he owes his whole life and career too and he MUST have screwed her over and she must have been the 'victim' in their breakup (people love spreading baseless rumours there is absolutely NO actual evidence for, i find those rumours peoole spread actually really painful to hear about), but Chelsea and Taika support each others work to this day, and make out he abandoned her and his kids when he got big (i saw someone say he hasnt talked to his kids in years which is factually untrue hes always posting with his kids and they were with him for a lot of the pandemic).

I also find the way she is contrasted with Rita jarring, I get the impression they see her as 'classy' while Rita is 'trashy', they literally refer to Rita as his 'girlfriend' rather than his wife when discussing her, implying Chelsea is the only one who is wife material and Rita is just his 'wh*re', I even saw one person saying she is doing so much cool stuff but Taika is only promoting Rita's stuff cos 'men think with their penises' (I HATE THAT PHRASE!) but Taika has promoted Chelsea's work before he had Rita's song link in his bio he had the link to her and his sister Tweedy's Maori translations of the Lion King.

I find that whole thing very 'Madonna-Whore' dichotomy, I also see people go on about how she is 'the mother of his children' in a bid to make him feel guilty for being with Rita, which I feel like shows the idealisation of mothers in society and how they are seen as 'better' than other women (something Jennette Mccurdy mentioned in her book) while we know how demonised stepmothers are, just look at sl many fairytales.

And of course all this is used to make Taika look bad.

Yeah it's really uncomfortable how they just kind of make up rumors about him. He did those "dad" videos for forever and people were saying he wasn't in contact with his kids then too (which is like.. they're on camera with him man, and they were in his show in 2023?). It's a growing problem with people who are "hearing things" on the internet and believing them as truths with little to no research of their own (or going to sources that are entirely biased in their directions so of course they'll get corroborating "evidence").

Thank you for sharing this perspective, especially about the "mother ideal" vs the "whore". I agree, it seems like there's a lot of hate towards Rita for being just a modern woman not wanting to go down the traditional "mother" route. It's crazy that it's 2024 (omg crap is it really 2024) and people are still expecting women to only be birthers. I'm a mom, but I chose to be a mom, I knew that was something I wanted a lot of my life because I love kids and I love language, and learning and seeing that in a kiddo is great! But I know so many women and men who don't want children and that's completely normal! Not every person on this planet has to procreate (and honestly we're overpopulated as it is), and labeling women whores for not wanting to be a mother really is incredibly puritanical. Unfortunately, I feel like no matter what Taika does... supports Rita doesn't support Rita, supports Chelsea, doesn't support Chelsea, sees his kids too often, sees his kids too little, someone is going to have a problem with him. Multiple anons and mutuals have brought up that it really is pretty damn racist how the people getting the most hate are the brown indigenous man, and his Albanian wife. It's incredibly frustrating, especially considering how much he does for indigenous films, shows, and people in general.

Ps: Regarding "men think with their penises" that doesn't even make sense like... are you NOT supposed to support the women in your life? Like what does the penis even have to do with anything in this case?

I feel like this is INCREDIBLY apt when it comes to the situation of Taika (and honestly women in general who don't go down the mother path). Whether people realise it's a part of systemic racism (and sexism) or not, so many people have been programmed to shame others if they don't follow the "norm". It's why it's so important for everyone to keep fighting back whenever that shame becomes public. Anyway, sorry, your talking points are really important and they got me rambling! It’s easy to say not gotten into This mess, duh, but he’s in it and deep in it.

It’s easy on the outside looking in to say just leave but umm like the marketing anon stated….it’s a business and one thing you don’t fuck with is people’s money especially those with more power and influence than you.

See I’m not making any excuses for Chris but I see people ragging on him but never stopping to realize we don’t have the full scope of this, huge missing pieces are left out and many are inserting their opinions and speculation as facts.

Be mad sure, but had Chris said no who’s to say this man wouldn’t have ended up blacklisted, lost everything he’s worked for etc. also he’s human and the pandemic scared at lot of people, even Scott stated Chris was worried about money during a podcast in 2020, Scott laughed but I never forgot that. Hi, Anons! Oh, gosh, I love both of these so much. Putting them together because I think there's a definite connection worth discussing.

So first, Anon #2 I know you must be referring to the new interviews with Michael and David that have come out the past few days (on Screen Rant Plus, Movieweb, etc.). Anon #1 is referring to another clip that just came out today, so I'll put the video up here for anyone who hasn't seen it and then discuss it further down this post:

Anon #2, how beautifully you have phrased your observation, and I could not possibly agree with you more. I've noticed a lot of people saying that Michael and David look sad or miserable, but I don't think that is the case at all. Well, a couple of things: 1) We have no idea when these interviews were recorded, though if I had to guess I'd say within the last month or two, and if that is the case, Michael was still directing/working nonstop on The Way, so that would explain him looking tired (along with running around after two little kids all the time). 2) I'm fairly certain that a large part of them not looking at each other is because they are trying not to give anything away about the second season, and Michael and David both know they won't be able to keep quiet if they make even the tiniest bit of eye contact.

3) I fully agree with your assertion that the lack of staring shows how close Michael and David have become, because to me, it also means that they no longer feel a need to be "on" around each other. They've both spoken in the past about how much they hate doing interviews/photo shoots, and that it became far more bearable when they had each other. That was the case four years ago, and now we've all gone through a global pandemic and some of the darkest times in our lives. That naturally strips away any sense of pretense--seeing someone at their worst, or when they're sick or afraid. I get the feeling that Michael and David have been through all of that and where so many other relationships/marriages fell apart, their relationship is even stronger now as a result. They love and accept each other exactly as they are, and it shows.

Finally, 4) What you said about Michael not staring at David makes my heart ache and seems so true. On the season 1 press tour, he was already in love, but didn't know when they would see each other again. I'm reminded of that one interview where they both suddenly seem to realize the press tour is coming to an end, and they don't know when they'll see each other next:

"Can we just...see each other? For no reason?"

He doesn't even have to ask that question now. Michael doesn't have to keep his eyes on David every moment because he has already memorized his whole face, the stubble on his skin, the softness of his lips. And he knows with perfect certainty that he will never be without David in his life again.

And this all fits in beautifully with the video you've mentioned, Anon #1, because they absolutely do move closer to each other in that video, and not only does it look like they did it completely unconsciously, but David seems to actually mirror Michael:

Michael is the first one to move closer, as we see above, and then right after he does, David moves closer. And again, they're not staring at each other the whole time. nor do they seem to be playing up their "personas"--Michael and David are just being themselves, and their natural inclination is to be close to each other. (Also, Michael's fucking wiggle right after he moves is killing me, because I think he only does that when he's very, very happy...)

I started watching this year and your tumblr was one of the first places I started looking for content, so basically I got all the sebchal lore and I remember seeing that you disliked charlos and I thought you were too harsh in some asks, because they seem friendly and carlos nice.

Now during the actual season I slowly changed my mind seeing Carlos radios trying to make people think he is faster and wanting to swap, the way he acted on some qualis, his obsession always asking charles time and saying he's doing better (monaco), his interviews and NOW finally with the way his family acted with Charles.

And the fact all of this seems to work with people ? Because it seems people believe everything he says, so now we have people claiming charles points, podiums or whatever are all because ferrari gave him preferential treatment. And claiming that if carlos wasn't "treated as second driver" he would be winning a lot more than charles.

Honestly now I can't even believe a charles fan could still like their "relationship" because their behavior is contributing a lot to the hate charles is getting this season.

I have a belief that is not just coincidental and that they are trying to get in charles head, to make him doubt himself, lose confidence etc

Honestly, I tried my best to go into this new "era" at Ferrari with an open mind and just observe this new lineup and their dynamics and then form an opinion based on my feelings and reactions. At one point I even said to one of my friends in this fandom, like, "what if I like Charles/Carlos so much that they eclipse my feelings for Seb/Charles?" I watched the first C2 challenges when they started dropping, and while they seemed quite innocuous, it was already blatantly obvious to me that this was going to be a completely different dynamic to Seb and Charles (understandably, but still.)

I think the first major turning point regarding my perception of Carlos and of their relationship as a whole was Monaco 2021. Carlos never really hid the fact that he blamed Charles's crash for hindering what he thought was a shot at pole (data accessible online proved that if anything, Valtteri was closer to pole than Carlos was on that occasion, but we still kept hearing about how "I could've been on pole" for like 6 months afterwards.) Obviously then on Sunday Charles couldn't start because of the car issue, which was a huge blow for him given that it was his home race, back after a year-long absence due to the pandemic.

Carlos finished on the podium and instead of taking it for what it is he just kept going on about how it's the "least enjoyable podium of his career" (still clinging to the perception that he lost out on pole), and then in 2022 giving an interview in which he stated that drivers will crash deliberately if they feel it gives them an edge, but was coy about what he meant. Still, given his feelings regarding Monaco 2021, it's not that hard to guess what he might've been referring to...

There were a few other points of contention in 2021 but because Ferrari were in the midfield at the time and the world's attention was on the Max vs Lewis title fight, those incidents kind of flew under the radar and most people still had this perception that there's this chill harmonious atmosphere at the team, and most of the cracks only started to publicly show in 2022. Even in the aftermath of Monaco 2022 (why is Monaco always so full of drama fr) I got anons about how I'm exaggerating, hating for no reason, etc. I think the public perception scales took a little while longer to fully tip, but from Silverstone onwards I think things started to shift a bit.

At some point I also stopped bothering with the C2 content because I was just not vibing with what I was seeing tbh. It's like the on-track stuff carried over to the PR content and to me Carlos came across as quite patronizing and envious. 🤷🏻‍♀️ When Charles drove him around Monaco for a video his biggest gripe was that people on the street are rooting for Charles and supporting him publicly. Like what did you expect, it's his home race, in a country that has a population of like 39,000 😭

I think one of the biggest problems is that Carlos's entire family is involved, and very closely at that, in his career and by extension in Ferrari's internal affairs. It's basically an open secret that they like to engage in a political tug-of-war and plant stories in the media to drive a certain kind of narrative that makes Carlos's optics look more favourable.

I agree that Carlos seems... a little too invested in the optics and statistics vs Charles. Yeah, your teammate is the first person you want to beat, but when you're content to finish 5th or something as long as you're ahead of your teammate then it becomes a bit of an issue. I saw a clip of a recent podcast sit-down thing Carlos did, where one of the questions was like, how do you cope with a mistake and recover from that; he brought up Charles unprompted, comparing Charles's "I am stupid" team radio after a qualy crash (from like 4 years ago) to his own approach and how he doesn't think or say that kind of thing about himself. It's like was this necessary, lol.

you've been a BTS for quite a long time, much longer than me. 2021 has been the first time I've experienced BTS and Jikook content live and not just from watching past content. So I fear maybe that plays into my perception

I decided to group these very differently written asks together because I think they all pose similar questions. I’ll try not to ramble.

A couple years ago, I used to have this same debate with a joker friend on Twitter. In fact she’s the person that convinced me to join Tumblr where she said a bigger jikooker community was. Let’s call her A. I remember she had a theory that the way the fandom relates to jikook has changed dramatically since 2017, and she explained there are three or four groups of people in the fandom who react to jikook in particular ways.

1. The homophobic subset of the fandom. There’s no getting around it - many people are homophobic, either due to cultural upbringing such as the traditionally religious, or some other prejudice, and in a fandom as big as ARMY many of which are from conservative Asian cultures, there’s bound to be thousands like this.

2. The non-homophobic subset of the fandom that notices or suspects jikook but says nothing either out of respect or out of an inclination to protect them. (As a non-shipping rapline bias who had just started asking explicit questions at the time, she placed me in this group). Jikook can be as affectionate as they want with each other and it can be explained away as skinship or something permissible for idols to do - I’ve seen some jikookers refer to this as a glass closet. Some non-shipping people in the fandom see this, occasionally joke about jikook in this way, but try not to excessively draw attention to jikook given LGBT+ rights are frankly non-existent in Korea.

3. The rival shippers. Throw in the y/ns who sometimes overlap with the homophobes, the taekookers, yoonminers, etc. These are basically other shippers who may or may not see jikook, but clearly have an interest in dismissing anything jikook do.

4. The people who just don’t care. For them, out of sight is out of mind, and even when in sight, the interpersonal dynamics between the members is just not something they care about. One of my closest ARMY friends (Minimoni bias) is exactly like this. I could gush from now till tomorrow about jikook and the most she’ll do is have a slightly amused look on her face. It’s not that she hates jikook or hates shipping, she’s simply not interested in it.

At the time, I argued with A that there are more sub-groups (in group 4 for example there are anti-shippers who actively squash down any mention of interpersonal chemistry because they think it distracts people from the music and cheapens it. They’re like music purists or something lol, but some of them also overlap with group 1 and so they have an added interest in dismissing any chemistry at all). But looking at all your asks, I’d say these four groups broadly explain the reasons the fandom reacts to jikook the way they do.

@guacamoli-avocadorado , I think in addition to all these, the sorts of people to say they no longer see jikook since like 2019, are a particular type of shipper. These are people who I think need constant stimulation, they ship actively (and I’d argue in borderline unhealthy ways) and need a constant drip feed of content. The reason I say it’s borderline unhealthy, is because I think these are people who run the risk of seeing BTS more as objects than as real people with real lives which include other people besides Jimin and Jungkook.

Because a lot did change for BTS and jikook in 2020. Many pairing moments usually come from on stage interactions on tour and the Vlives that would happen right after, Run BTS moments, off the clock sightings in tour locations, and so on. Since 2020, first with the pandemic and then their hiatus, nearly all of these opportunities have whittled down in frequency, and in some ways have almost dried up. So people who forget that after the cameras turn off, BTS still exist in each other’s lives, and that even with reduced on camera instances jikook still maintain a consistency their fondness for each other, those people then come online to complain about jikook either not being as close or jikook not even being close at all anymore.

It’s basically bias - a form of binary confirmation bias where the absence of constant evidence negates every possibility. The annoying thing is that, it’s actually true that jikook’s relationship has changed, but it’s also true that it hasn’t really changed all that much either. Jimin and Jungkook are two individuals, adult men with different friend groups and different personal and career goals. As they mature, so will their relationship. As time passes we get glimpses into what that looks like, but based on what I’ve seen, the chemistry, fondness, and deference between them hasn’t worsened at all. It’s taken on a slightly different shade, but the Busan Bros have not slowed down their shenanigans.

I remember in 2020 when people were saying they had broken up (I’m not certain they’re dating, but I do remember seeing this theory all over based on an ‘out of sight out of mind’ rationale), and we later learned Jungkook had been getting drunk with him privately and spinning a grown man around bridal style.

I don’t know when people will learn to live and let live with jikook. They haven’t slowed down in 10 years, with the cameras rolling and the cameras off. Their relationship might have indeed changed since 2019, but not in any meaningful way that negates their love and respect for each other.

Whether or not some people see it has more to do with them and their bias, than anything jikook may or may not be doing in their personal lives.

I just wanted to stop by and add my two cents to this conversation. This might get a bit long, so I apologize in advance.

To the anons that come here and spew hate, let me share some different perspective, since most of you want to pop on Mandy’s blog, or someone else’s blog to accuse us fans, or former fans of being jealous.

It’s not about that.

Believe it or not, some of us are in healthy relationships, or are “gasp!” married! Some of us are single, and are focusing on loving ourselves. Jealousy because Chris is in a relationship isn’t why we are upset.

I am a biracial woman. As someone who is half black who grew up in a white neighborhood to white parents (I’m adopted) was interesting for lack of a better word atm. I grew up with comments of “why wouldn’t you adopt a white child.” From my mom’s friends who didn’t think I was listening. Or employees at grocery stores watching me a little bit closer because I wasn’t the blonde haired blue eyed child that came in to buy candy after riding their bikes all day and needed a pick me up. I’ll always remember a woman at a 7-11 making me dump my pockets out to make sure I didn’t take anything extra than what I paid for, but didn’t make my white childhood friend do the same. When I was younger I didn’t quite understand, I felt it was normal. Of course I know better now.

Chris Evans is/was a comfort celebrity for a lot of people, as were his characters. Yes, some can take it to the extreme, but not everyone. I know that as a woman of color, it felt like we had an ally in him when it came to matters of racism. We had someone using their platform to do good for others who may not have that voice. Remember when he called out Frank Grillo during their appearance on Chelsea Lately? Or how about when he was pictured with his brother at a BLM peaceful protest? Don’t get me started on his interactions with several black women on social media during the pandemic.

But now, it feels like a farce. Look, I know Alba and her crew are young. I was that age once. You’re still figuring things out. But racism is always inexcusable. Fine, it wasn’t her that directly said it, but there is something to be said about the company you keep. Ever heard the term guilt by association? The fact that he was so vocal on issues before meeting Alba, then giving her friends a free pass because he’s getting laid? It’s not ok. It feels that all of his comments and actions were fake. It was to promote a narrative and an image that wasn’t real. It’s as if Chris only used his “wokeness” for when it worked out for him and make him look good, and because he was the “internet’s boyfriend” that’s ok. I’m kind of appalled that people are so willing to look past it. I think that’s why so many are calling out YNB because as a woman of color she’s ok to let his actions go as long as he keeps being her “twitter bae.” It’s not the way honey. He really isn’t here for us and he’s proven that time and time again. And don’t get me started on the not sticking up for the woman “he’s so in love with.” If my husband had even a notion that some of the things that were being said about Alba were being said about me, you better believe he would have called people out. “But that’s not what he does!” Some of you may say. Well, this whole relationship/relationship roll out is very different than how he’s handled things before, so why not jump all the way in with two feet?

I’m just trying to give a different perspective, from someone who is highly disappointed and moving away from the fandom. It has nothing to do with being jealous, but everything to do with it being blatantly obvious that Chris isn’t the person that he put himself out there to be.

some updates

hello everyone! i hope you're fine and enjoying the last month of spring. as for us, this may-june reminds me of the pandemic, in which it rained until mid-june. it's nice, though, since we're in a very dry season with water restrictions. i had missed rain, somehow.

some of you have noticed that i'm not on twitter anymore. i tried it again, but i don't think it was worth it. although i'm convinced my harasser(s) is subscribed to me on ao3 and checks my tumblr regularly (for i hadn't announced "for you" on twitter when i received hate comments) twitter was, again, giving me anxiety. also, when i decided not to be on fandom, i had begun finding twitter boring, because i didn't want to interact there a lot. it's strange to craft a tl anew, again, and overall, i reiterate, i think i'm happier just writing my own headcanons with no influence of fandom. i should have told 2021 hera this, as she was convinced that being in twitter was "the move" to do.

anyways, i'm fine. i love experiencing fandom as a little guilty pleasure, something more private and fun. it makes me less afraid, too: i had been wanting to write "for you" since i first began liking aot, but i was always afraid of what the fandom would say. such a lot of time lost, and now i'm writing it knowing that the aot haze is somehow passing by.

i am feeling a little bit discouraged with this story. i didn't like some of the comments i received, and it made me doubt whereas i was doing a good job. somehow, since i was very stressed and didn't have time to write, all the scenes and dialogue and sentences i had in my head dissipated before i could even write them. on monday, i decided to come back at it again, but as for now, i'm slowly, slowly making progress (that means, i haven't written since monday). not being in twitter/having lots of fandom experiences doesn't make me rush, either. i'm not particularly worried that it's been a month since i updated. i want to do a good job, and i'm just not in the mood, right now. maybe i need to watch a romantic movie, or listen to taylor swift non-stop.

i thank all of you who had commented and liked the story (i will always be surprised, though, at the ratio kudos-hits) and i hope i can upload soon.

damn, this was a bittersweet feeling. the most comments i received were from anon haters (and they kept on pushing that the fic was a failure). i'm not writing rivamika for numbers, so i don't really care, and i also think this fandom is very committed to their ship in ways that i'm not committed to ships anymore, so i trust that when people read the first chapter (which is fully levi/mikasa) they will like the story more. i have also resigned myself to receive anon hate whatever i do, so i don't particularly care about it anymore: that's why i have opened the comments to guests, too (always moderated). i'm sorry that people might see the hate comments, but i have to accept them in order to report them to ao3 for abuse.

i think i found two of the harassers in twitter, though. i'm not sure. they can rot in hell, and i know they will follow and comment everything i do. if that's the way they want to pass on time... they are sad people.

that being said, for you is progressing slowly, too. i'm sorry, because i really like writing it.

own writing

i've owned that if i want to be a published author i need to get rid of insecurity. i've slowly been doing this since the year started ("not giving a fuck"), yet sometimes the self-pressure takes over me.

i am turning "instead they said" in an original story, so this is taking quite a lot of time. i am also writing my new novel. i also revised the other novel i had in my drawer, and i think i want it to send it somewhere.

i hope we can read each other soon.

Hands down to the anon who hit the nail with H’s semi-manufactured success because I feel the same about it.

Look, I love him deeply, I find him one of the most attractive man on earth while I never had any need to project my sexual fantasies into him (and trust me, I have done it with literally every male crush while Harry/Louis are the only exceptions). I really really wish he can show us more from his personality, be more open to us and in what he is interested. I also think he’s a little weirdo sometimes and maybe a shy introvert when he’s not feeling 100% comfortable - as much as he can be arrogant with his confident, he’s awkward sometimes and I adore him for that.

But while as much as I love him I just don’t like those charts of his popularity and his achievements, awards or how much money he made with LOT etc etc etc. Because what does it actually mean? Does it make him a better person? Does it make him a God? Does it make him immortal? No, no, no, no. It’s unpopular opinion but icons/legends has been made in the past (80’s - 00’s) because those were the times when there were something to discover and something new to create but now everything is just recycling and update of something that has been already created.

To be honest, Harry is known for his “old soul” inspirations, he’s mix of Bowie//Mercury//Elton John and his image is the same as it was with Ricky Martin or George Michael. As much as I love him I doubt people will rememeber him as much as they remember those names I wrote above in like 10-20 years. And no numbers and how much money he made won’t be remembered in the future. Look, people barely remember Backstreet Boys and Nsync now - iconic boybands without who there won’t be any 1D - while first one is active simply because of nostalgia and second one just announced a reunion and I’m curious how it will go.

Also IMO one of the reasons why he is so extremely popular is that there basically isn’t any active singe who is making music without following any trends (read that his songs go against actual trends in music) and who is willing to tour the world while fitting the het fantasies. There was Justin Bieber but is he active? No. Shawn Mendes? He isn’t active as well and who knows if his career will be the same as it was pre-pandemic. Ed Sheeran never had an image of sex god for obvious reasons. Singers like Robbie Williams or Justin Timberlake are way too old for teens. So who else is there to compete with Harry? Rest of boys from 1D as media likes to make this artificial rivality between them claiming Harry is the best one? The most popular artists right now are all females starting with our popular TS or Beyonce, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish. And they won’t take away Harry’s popularity made by het harries.

And the last note - look how popular Harry was during Grammy’s. He won the most important award while people were yelling at him during his speech because they felt Beyone should win it. And then there was that hate after on every social media. And he clearly was very uncomfortable that night because he might thought he simply doesn’t really belong there but his management made him this popular and so he had to be there and face bigger singers and their fans.

Yes, kudos to that anon for hitting the nail on the head as you say!

I wish we got to see more of his personality as well. But he needs that blank canvas for everyone to project onto and get popular. At the same time, showing so little of yourself won't get you icon status. So it's tricky. He is doing exceptionally well because of lack of competition. There will be a day where competition will come, and that's why I think they are striking while the iron is hot. I'm still not sure if they are going for longevity here. Doesn’t seem like it right now.

And yeah, the grammy's. Not good. The grammy's are all politics and the azoffs are powerful people. Harry was awkward and unprepared for that speech. He put his foot in his mouth. I cringed. The heckling from the ones yelling for Beyoncé and the social media backlash was a bad combination. I think it put some people off him. I can see their point of view. Harry needs to wise up, and the azoffs needs to stop buying him his fame and start trusting his talent. Awards, achievements, numbers and records mean nothing in the grand scheme of things if it isn't well earned.

I find myself in a really tough situation regarding RoP content. I have a lot of respect for you and what you’ve been doing for the fandom recently, and I’d like some of your advice.

There are two youtubers in particular who I follow. One of them is someone who has done a lot of analysis of various costumes in the show and has redesigned them to be much more believable and less gaudy, over-the-top gold leaf on everything. The other is a person who has also done a bit covering the costumes, but who has mainly produced content defending Tolkien against RoP and discussing what the show would’ve been like if it had been done in a way that actually paid respect to Tolkien’s works.

Both of them are people who very much do not support the show, and I agree with them and I think the content that they’re producing is very interesting, especially given how I’m a costume and cosplay person myself and I love content about that. However, with everything you have said about not interacting with the show- not watching fan content about it, not sharing stuff, etc, I’m almost at a loss about what to do here. On one hand, both channels are on the side of Tolkien and against the show and are definitely discussing just how problematic it is on both the level of the show itself (costumes) and the ideas behind it as a whole (and how it betrays Tolkien), but at the same time, they’re just doing more to talk about it and spread it around and garner interest for it.

It’s very late so I’m probably not phrasing all this in the most coherent way possible but I hope what I’m trying to get at is still coming across. Thank you so much for anything you might have to say on this issue!!

Hi anon, sorry it took me a while to answer this. Thanks for the ask! And you didn't phrase this badly at all. I get where you're coming from. I think there are differing views on this issue, and there are many nuances involved, but it's my personal view that talking about the show is not harmful in and of itself.

I hope that people will refrain from watching the show on Amazon Prime (because even if you're hatewatching, it gives the show views, and also gives Amazon streaming revenue), and that they will refrain from giving Amazon positive promotion (that means anything from retweeting the trailers, to praising the show, to buying the merchandise). But in my opinion simply discussing it, and what's bad about it, is not inadvertently helping Amazon.

Some people argue that "any press is good press", i.e. that even when you criticize Amazon, you're giving them publicity. I disagree with that take. Amazon is terrified of bad press, as evidenced by the fact that they've gone to great lengths to counter it, including creating fake Twitter accounts to make it look like Amazon employees are happy with their jobs, and getting multiple TV stations to air Amazon talking points as news in an effort to muffle criticism of the company's abysmal workplace safety practices during the beginning months of pandemic. These are just a few examples.

Now that The Rings of Power is about to come out, there are a bunch of reviews of the show that someone at Amazon clearly paid for so they would make Amazon look good.

Eclipse person again, and I just looked up when the next eclipse is coming and it won’t come until 2044 or something. And it’s only going over like the Dakota states only. My family’s also manipulated by trump related stuff but not as bad as it could be. These feelings resurfaced because a family memeber got to see the total eclipse and the way she described it was so fucking cool. It looks so cool, and I couldn’t even look out the window because “it’ll do something bad to you!!!1!111!!” Sorry for such bad vibes ig. I’m just really upset and I hate how no matter much I explain and talk to them about anything normal they still believe they’re barely logical thinking. Worst part is my entire family is moving to Alabama and my mom picked it bc it’s mostly white people. I just hate that the only people I know are just terrible people bc I was like 14 when Covid started and now I’m 18 and it’s had a massive effect on me but idk how to get better I guess for a lack of better words. Sorry for such a long rant I really do appreciate it even if this is the first and last time❤️

You're not bringing me down or bringing bad vibes. You're reaching out because you're hurting and that's okay. We all need someone. I'm just privileged that you chose me to talk to. The next eclipse will come when you're 38, right? Hopefully you'll be in a better spot by then. Sadly, having families not think we're logical is pretty common, especially if one member of the family has different political or life views.

That's disturbing why your family is moving, but Alabama has a lot of struggles that affect everyone, but it is certainly worse for many POC from what I've been told. I live in the South and its certainly that way for my POC friends, here. The pandemic was hard on everyone for sure. Have you tried something like bumble bff? It's an online app. It's known for being a dating app, but you can just stay in the friend section. That's what I'm trying to do. People have been recommending more discord groups to me. I personally don't know of any new ones, but if you're able to find any non toxic ones, that would be helpful.

I agree with the premises but I don't agree with the conclusion or the general sentiment.

I also think that Joe wants to build his career in a certain way and that he hasn't really been able to reach the level he hoped to reach (I personally think he absolutely has the talent to, but he lacks the confidence in himself and a will to play the game).

I agree that seeing Taylor be so successful and always come back stronger after every single bad moment (everything that happened in 2016, the critique of reputation, the reception of the Lover singles, the cancellation of LoverFest + the pandemic...) must have generated some sorts of... let's call them "bad feelings" in him, and honestly? It's understandable. Everything Taylor has touched since the summer of 2020 has turned into gold, and the few "scandals" she's had (MH and the jets, mainly) have not made a single dent in her career or reputation, long-term. [And hey, after years and years of being criticized and thrown to the wolves for every single step she'd take, I'm glad that she's able to do whatever the fuck she wants without needing to apologize for existing (this does not change how much I hate the fact that she dated MH, btw)]. And when your partner is the epitome of success and you struggle to even get one good review of your performance, I think it's normal to start feeling uneasy or frustrated. NOT at your partner, but at the situation.

A couple of months ago I did a stupid BuzzFeed quiz with some of my flatmates. One question asked "How would you feel if your partner was much more successful than you are?" (or something like that). The answers were like "I'd be proud of them!", "I'd be proud of them but I'd feel inadequate" or "I could never do it" (again - something like that). Three girls and two guys aged 20-24 answered: they're all in college, some of them are more "successful" than their partners, some less, and one is single; some come from a family where the two parents earn equal money, one comes from a family where the father is much more successful, and one comes from a family where the mother is. This is just to point out that they have different backgrounds. Well, they ALL chose the second option.

I don't agree with the idea that Taylor pulled away from the spotlight and decided to appear less successful to spare his feelings. I see this theory around a lot but I'm yet to see a single convincing proof of it. To me the way she reacted to Red TV and Midnights's success and she promoted her work from 20221 until now is very much a reflection of the way she is right now as a person, not of the way she had to be in order to appease Joe. I really don't think she made herself smaller or anything like that. And hey, I'm ready to be proven wrong, but I just feel like it's a bit of revisionist history.

All in all, if he felt wrong or inadequate or stressed or sad while seeing Taylor's career explode and his "implode", I don't blame him. I'd blame him if he treated her badly because of it, but I don't see any proof of that (YLM, TO ME, is proof of entirely different things).

Idk what to make of Harry when it comes to the people he surrounds himself with and his desire for more and more fame/love. He’s not the helpless victim some Larries think he is but he’s also not the manipulative villain Rads see him as. It’s impossible for anyone to tell what kind of situation he’s in and exactly who is pulling the strings and etc, but I think it’s clear that Harry doesn’t hate the Azoffs at all despite them being pieces of shits. He’s changed so much…I feel like he was at least fine in 2016-2018. But the past few years I’ve found him to be off putting, and I wonder why he continues to surround himself with super fake celebrities and business people. He doesn’t mind the fakeness of these A list events. Idc if i sound selfish or delusional, but this boy has been thru a lot from the industry and I don’t see why he’s sacrificing authenticity for success. Look at him while in the band/during HS1 vs now. I don’t even wanna go to his concerts because of his audiences. This type of stuff also makes it hard to imagine L&H together. I’m not talking about the fact that they have opposite images, that’s irrelevant to love. But i dunno, you see Louis not even being promoted by his own team and going indie and not being a fan of phoney industry stuff. Then you have Harry who’s 100% on board with playing the game. I wonder if there’s a long term plan for all this, like maybe he’s planning on making a lot of money for the management and himself so it’s stable for him to come out?

Harry isn’t the only one that’s rubbing me the wrong way though. Louis suddenly playing dad after years of pushing back against babygate is also a No from me. But with that situation, I can at least see where he’s going with it and that it hopefully won’t last much longer 🤷‍♀️

I agree with you, anon, as it is with so many things, the truth probably lies in between. I do believe the people you surround yourself with have a massive influence on your perception of the world (and obviously said people) and Harry had little choice when Jeff came into his life in 2013 about who’s surrounding him, and I do believe that Jeff is really good at manipulating and taking sugar. But harry is an adult now… the pandemic is what makes me a bit hopeful for the break now. Harry was forced to spend less time with all these leeches bc of covid and see what happened after? A harry who wasn’t very happy with Jeff. I think it’s soooo necessary for him to get out from under his supervision to recalibrate again. The way he’s confronted with his fame everyday on tour and how it’s being exploited by everyone can’t not fuck with your brain. fun fact, jungkook was my first bias back in 2020. i had my eye on him since about 2019 and watched fan cams of him before getting into bts. which...might have been a bit fetishizing, because i was mostly watching for his visual without diving into the actual group he was in, and i wish i had not waited until pandemic summer to finally get into them, but it is what it is. i wasn't into pop music at the time, and it took a bit to warm up to them as a whole.

i stopped biasing jungkook in part because he is so young (literally 10 years younger than me, which made me feel a little icky back he was 24) and also because yoongi's lyrics really spoke to me and he swept me up in bias switching.

i have always loved and adored jungkook but mostly viewed him as a cute little brother, because of his age. slowly, as he has been approaching 30 and also experimenting with piercings and letting his silly side show over 5am lives, i have been warming up to him more. the thing is, i don't know him personally, so my feelings for him are always going to be a little distant because there is no need for me to swoon over/be in love with him.

it is not that i didn't like him before, i was just much quieter about it.

and although i absolutely owe people like you nothing, i thought it would be fun to take a little walk down jungkook memory lane, since his visual and vocal talent played a huge role in me getting into the group at all.

anyway, anon, i'm sorry that your life is so devoid of joy that you have to find silly reasons to shit on people online. if you hate writers so much, don't follow them. not being a shithead unprovoked costs absoluely nothing hehe; it's free. have a nice day.

p.s. i actually avoided writing jungkook as a lead in reader insert smut fics bc his content is so oversaturated on this site and the readers of his fics don't really interact outside of likes and follows. and don't get me wrong, i appreciate every like and follow, but it's also frustrating when other work i care a lot about gets almost nothing next to the jungkook content. he is almost always a major player in my longer fics because i absolutely adore him as a person and as someone to model my characters after. not that you care, tho, because you clearly don't respect writers lolol.
