Innocenti C coupé 

Born in Piscaia, Tuscany in 1891, Ferdinandi Innocenti started his business career by establishing a hardware store in Rome. The business grew, and in 1920 Ferdinandi established a factory in northern Italy in Milan, in the Lambrate district. The factory produced everything from soccer stands to railways, and the reconstruction boom in Rome in particular boosted demand.The factories suffered in the Second World War, but Innocenti had kept them up and running productively for wartime needs even through difficult times. After the war, the factories also started producing for the vehicle industry, inspired by military motorcycles. Enrico Piaggio had introduced the Vespa in 1946, and Innocenti introduced their first scooter, Lambro River by Lambretta, just a year later. The scooters became a huge success and were manufactured under license in Spain, India, Argentina, Germany, France and Brazil.At the end of the 1950s, another economic boom followed in Italy, and the working class could for the first time get their own car, such as the Fiat 500. Ferdinando's son Luigi had taken over as vice president of the company and began to explore the possibilities of manufacturing passenger cars. A cooperation partner was first found in Germany, and a small Iseria passenger car was born in cooperation with Goggomobil. However, production was very marginal until the early 1960s when Innocenti entered into a cooperation agreement with the British BMC and began to produce Innocenti Austins and Mini Minors under license.Innocent's first in-house model followed just a year later when it introduced the Austin-Healey Sprite-based 950 Spider. Encouraged by Innocenti’s first sports model, the collaboration with Ferrari also began, and two 186 GT prototypes equipped with the V6 from Maranello were completed, until Ferrari decided to bury the project in 1966.

Innocenti was not discouraged, and developed their own small Coupé model, which was presented later in the same year. Ghia used the earlier Spider model as the basis for the design, and Sergio Sartorelli, who has made a name for himself with models like the Karmann Ghia Type 34 and the Fiat 2300 S, was given the main responsibility for the design. The wheelbase was extended and the rear of the car was completely redesigned. Special attention was paid to the quality of the materials in the interior, and the GT spirit was also exuded by dashboard including five gauges, the oil pressure gauge was straight from the Ferrari 250 GTE. New Innocenti C was powered by BMC's A-series 1098cc engine, producing 58bhp with two SU carburettors – enough for a coupe with a curb weight of just 695kg.

I feel like you might be the perfect person to answer this question because I really love reading your pieces about all the different aspects in motorsport so I apologize if you do find answering these things tedious but other than Beitske Visser, has Redbull ever signed any other women to their driver academy?

Because I tried to google this and Beitske was signed in 2013 (or at least the announcement was in 2013, from what I read) and this is an academy that has brought so many drivers to F1 and people make fun of for having so many juniors in F2 this year that you can’t tell who’s who because it’s just all Redbull liveries, I find it strange that I couldn’t find anyone other than her in ten years.

It almost feels like if any junior academy could support a young female driver, it would be them because they have such a large history of juniors that have gone through various of the junior categories.

I was just thinking of Redbull in particular because Ferrari and Mercedes do have women in their driver academies at the moment.

Thank you for asking and you're right; Beitske was the only woman ever signed to the Red Bull Junior Team. At the time I think she was the only woman ever signed to an F1 junior academy, although Simona de Silvestro was in a programme to get a Sauber seat.

Beitske got a single season in German F4 with the academy before she was dropped. It helped her raise enough of her profile and sponsorship to be able to do Formula Renault 3.5 and a tiny bit of GP3 but she was always desperately short of cash, which in Formula Renault (where testing was basically unlimited) means you're at a huge disadvantage.

When it comes to the Red Bull programme it's more surprising that Beitske was ever signed than that no other woman has been. At the helm of the programme is Helmut Marko, a doctor of law who certainly makes some wild fuckin claims. In 2019 he came out with this BS which, honestly-

"Wheel-to-wheel fighting at 300 kph (186 mph) means you must have some brutality," Marko told the Kleine Zeitung newspaper. "I don't know if that is in the female nature." "These are huge physical demands," Marko added. "And that is maybe too difficult and too strenuous for women."

Says a fella who was racing when half the drivers had a few whiskeys before getting in the cars.

It's not the first time Marko's come out with crap like that and he says it often enough and brazenly enough that all the Big Men of the paddock can nod their heads and say "at last, someone brave enough to stand up to the woke contention grown women would be capable of something noodly-armed teenage boys who are 80lbs sopping wet and terrified of spiders can do. "

So, yes: sadly, it's very unlikely we'll see Red Bull's Junior Team backing any more women in the near future. And I'm not sure where Beitske's career's really ended up - I was really hoping she'd get a GT drive but nothing quite seems to be coming together. She was BMW's reserve in Formula E for years but then BMW pulled their classic move of deciding they weren't doing motorsport anymore (only to come back six months later) so that didn't work out.

I struggle with a “fear of being forgotten.”

It’s manageable, but it definitely can be suffocating at times. It’s tied in to my Dad’s condition, my own mental illnesses, and just being a people pleasure.

So to feel “forgotten” is just crushing. It makes me feel so small, so overlooked, so unnoticed.

But even with those negative feelings of “feeling small” I think that’s also why I love G/t so much. It also explains why I gravitate towards the comforting and the romance and love aspects of G/t as well.

Just imagine what that might feel like.

Imagine a loved one so much bigger and capable and stronger than you--either in actuality or just by how you perceive them--and the fact that they notice you. But it wouldn’t stop there. They wouldn’t just notice you, they would love you, care for you, make sure you’re not forgotten, make sure you’re kept safe.

For all they can do and all that they are, they want you.

I know for some that’s trite and not their cup of tea. Some might bring up that it’s difficult or practical, but in my brain that’s not the point (for me, at least). 

The point is that grounding, reassurance that someone actually cares about me. Love can sometimes be the most illogical, improbable thing--and yet it’s still here.

Anywho, those are just some of my thoughts. <3 I’ve been gone from Tumblr for awhile due to some mental health reasons. I can’t promise I’ll come back full-swing, but it is nice to just kinda throw these thoughts out into the cosmos and hope it finds meaning for someone.

I wish that media wouldn’t treat a man being saved by a woman as a joke or something to be ashamed by. I’m having childhood flashbacks of all the times I wanted to have media that allowed for men to be saved, men to be sensitive, etc. A younger me could’ve benefited immensely from that kind of healthy representation that anyone is worth saving & showing emotions.

I’m feral at the idea of capable Tinies who need to slow down, and they have a Giant in their life who is going to help them learn how to rest. 

A brilliant student who has been pulling several all-nighters cramming for a final they’re definitely way overthinking, so their Giant plucks them up and says “nope you’re done, you need to rest” and tucks them in their pocket and takes them out for lunch or coffee. And the student just passes clean out in their pocket the moment they feel even just a bit of comfy fabric on their face. 

A Borrower who has known nothing but pain and desperation their whole life--one who has had to kill for every substantial meal that has sustained them. But now they’re learning what COMFORT is with a Human? And it’s scary and uncomfortable and weird? And they sort of have to be coaxed into not sleeping with their weapons every night, and allowing themselves to trust that the Human will keep them safe?

It’s not a matter of the Tinies NOT being able to handle themselves--they can and they have for a good long while, but it’s the fact that they FINALLY are allowed a moment to actually REST and feel SAFE.

There’s something really appealing to me about the idea that a Giant might go absolutely feral and wild when discovering their Tiny s/o has been hurt or is in some kind of danger.

I just love it when the Giant is described as this “force of nature” that becomes unbridled the moment the love of their life is threatened. Not in a possessive or obsessive way, but in this passionate protection and care that comes when you’re dealing with an s/o that is something like a living thunderstorm or walking volcano.
