Pablo Picasso, Portrait of Sylvette David.

Sylvette David tells the story:

"When I moved to Vallauris in the south of France, I knew little about Picasso. This was in the early 1950s, I was 19 and my then boyfriend, Toby, and I were poor as church mice. We didn’t even have any books in the flat we lived in. I was aware Picasso was a great painter, the village celebrity, but apart from that I barely knew a thing.One spring day, when Toby and I were sitting on a terrace with friends, we noticed a strange thing. There was a wall not far off, behind which Picasso had a studio. We saw a painting jumping this way and that just above the wall. Picasso was holding it up..."
