2024 Fiat 500e: Finally An Affordable EV You Can Have Fun With
In Europe, the Fiat 500e is leading the electric city-car market for the second year in a row, ranking at the top of that category in Italy, Germany, Spain, Belgium and Austria. But can it achieve similar success in North America? One person who thinks so is Fiat North American Head Aamir Ahmed, and in his exclusive interview with AOTR Host Jack Nerad he’ll tell us why. One of the reasons he…

Y’all wanna know something that is sort of baffling to me about cars? How few manufacturers there actually are.
Take a moment to think about all the dealerships in your town, and how many brands there are. Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Cadillac, Jeep, Dodge, BMW, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Fiat, Audi, Mazda, Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Lexus, Chrysler, Mini, maybe if you’re feeling fancy Porsche, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, Land Rover, Maserati. The list does indeed go on.
What if I told you that in that list, there are only 12 parent companies?
Reasonably speaking there are about 47 brands (or makes) of car currently being sold new in the US, with a handful of other brands that are discontinued and no longer being manufactured, and a few small electric vehicle brands that are standalone. For all of those, there are 17 parent companies.
Those parent companies are:
Hyundai Motor Company
Nissan (technically the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance)
Jaguar Land Rover
Honda Motor Company
Stellantis
Volkswagen Group
General Motors
BMW AG
Toyota Group
Ford Motor Company
Zhejiang Geely Holding Group
Mercedes-Benz AG
Karma Automotive
Tesla, Inc.
Aston Martin
McLaren Group
Ferrari
With one special shout-out to Amazon getting a stake in Rivian alongside Ford.
Ready to know just how interconnected this shit is? I’m going to put this breakdown under the cut because it’s going to get long and annoying. But interesting in my humble opinion. I’m going to put each make of vehicle listed with their parent company, and list the current models as well. Plus some commentary because I can’t help myself. Here we go
Hyundai Motor Company
Hyundai
Current models are the Venue, Kona, Tucson, Santa Cruz, Santa Fe, Palisade, Ioniq 5, Nexo, Accent, Elantra, Sonata, Ioniq 6, and Veloster.
Kia
Current models are the Soul, Seltos, Sportage, Sorento, Carnival MPV, Telluride, Niro, EV6, Rio, Forte, K5, and Stinger
Genesis
This entire make actually started as the Hyundai Genesis, a single model of vehicle, but is now its own thing. Because it’s a luxury brand, the names are kind of annoying, as you’ll see further down the list. Those current models are the G80, G70, G90, GV60, GV70, and GV80.
————
Nissan
Nissan
Current models are the Kicks (formerly Juke), Rogue, Rogue Sport, Murano, Pathfinder, Armada, ARIYA, Versa, Sentra, Altima, LEAF, Maxima, Nissan Z, GT-R, Frontier, and Titan.
Mitsubishi
Current models are the Outlander, Eclipse, and Mirage.
Infiniti
Current models (and this is a luxury brand, so lots of numbers and leters) are the Q50, Q60, QX50, QX55, QX60, and QX80.
————
Jaguar Land Rover
Honestly you’re never gonna guess this one
Jaguar
One of the luxury brands with fewer annoying names in my opinion. Current models are the F-Pace, E-Pace, I-Pace, F-Type, and XF.
Land Rover
Another luxury brand with slightly less annoying names. Current models are the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque, Discovery, Discovery Sport, and Defender.
————
Honda Motor Company
Honda
Current models are the HR-V, CR-V, Pilot, Passport, Civic, Accord, Odyssey, Ridgeline, with the Prologue coming sometime in 2024.
Acura
Current models are the Integra, TLX, NSX Type S, RDX, MDX, NSX GT3 Evo22 which is a racing car, and the ZDX coming sometime in 2024.
————
Stellantis
Alfa Romeo
Total of three whole models currently in production (kinda.) Currently available are the Stelvio and Giulia, both with Quadrifoglio packages, with the Tonale coming in the spring. Shoutout to the 4C and 4C spider because those are coupes and they’re nice although no longer actively being made
Chrysler
Current models are the Chrysler 300, Pacifica, with the 300C coming sometime next year. Shoutout to the Town & Country though.
Dodge
Current models are the Charger, Challenger, and Durango, but another special shoutout to the Grand Caravan.
Fiat
Don’t buy these. They, much like Jeeps, break all the time to the point there’s a joke that “Fiat” stands for “Fix it again, Tony.” Anyway, the only current model is the Fiat 500x, but you can still find the 124 Spider, 500, 500 Abarth, 500c, 500c Abarth, 500e, and 500L around.
Jeep
Also don’t buy these. They spend more time in the shop than on the road. Current models are the (Grand) Wagoneer (which is ugly as hell imo), Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Compass, Gladiator, and Renegade.
Maserati
Common knowledge is these are also garbage cars, and you’re paying for the name. Current models are the Grecale, Levante, Ghibli, Quattroporte, and MC20.
Ram
Current models are the 1500, 2500, 3500, Chassis Cab, and ProMaster. These are all trucks, and while they used to be part of the Dodge lineup (which is why you’ll still see Dodge Rams around or hear people refer to them as such), they have become their own brand aimed mostly at professionals in construction and transportation.
Defunct: Plymouth, although it was only owned by Chrysler at the time it suspended operations. The history of who owns what in this particular line up of brands is really complicated.
————
Volkswagen Group
Audi
One of the more annoying naming conventions, in line with other luxury brands of the same price range. Current models are the e-tron, e-tron Sportback, e-tron S, e-tron S Sportback, e-tron GT, RS e-tron GT, Q3, Q4 e-tron, Q4 Sportback e-tron, Q5, Q5 Sportback, SQ5, SQ5 Sportback, Q7, SQ7, Q8, SQ8, RS Q8, A3, S3, RS 3, A4, A4 allroad quattro, S4, A5 coupe, S5 coupe, RS 5 coupe, A5 Sportback, S5 Sportback, RS 5 Sportback, A5 Cabriolet, S5 Cabriolet, A6, S6, A6 allroad quattro, RS 6 Avant, A7, S7, RS 7, A8, S8, TT coupe, TTS coupe, TT Roadster, R8 coupe, and R8 Spyder.
Bentley
As with higher luxury brands, there aren’t a ton of models. Currently in production are the Bentayga, the Continental GT, and the Flying Spur.
Lamborghini
In line with the above, we only have three models. The Aventador, Huracan, and Urus. (Hot tip: the Urus, their only SUV, is on the same exact platform as the Audi Q7, Audi Q8, Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne, and Volkswagen Touareg. So, rather than spend $225,500 on a Urus, go and get yourself a Cayenne or Panamera witht he same engine in it for half the price, or if you’re after the interior and space, a Q7 or Q8 $60k, or a Touareg for something like $20k.)
Porsche
Porsche my beloved. I will never say a single bad thing about this brand. Other than the fact that sometimes their naming conventions, particularly for their coupes, cane get a little confusing. Nonetheless, current models include the 718, 911, Taycan (which is all electric, which surprised me, tbh), Panamara, Macan, and Cayenne. However, you start seeing the confusing naming conventions once you get into all the options. See, my mom drives a Boxter. But, do I have any idea if it’s a 718 or a 911? No. So, a further breakdown of the models:
718 models: Cayman, Boxter, Cayman Style Edition, Boxter Style Edition, Cayman T, Boxter T, Cayman S, Boxter S, Cayman GTS 4.0, Boxter GTS 4.0, Cayman GT4, Spyder, Cayman GT4 RS.
911 models: Carrera, Carrera T, Carrera Cabriolet, Carrera 4, Carrera 4 Cabriolet, Carrera S, Carrera S Cabriolet, Carrera 4S, Carrera 4S Cabriolet, Targa 4, Targa 4S, Carrera GTS, Carrera GTS Cabriolet, Carrera 4 GTS, Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet, Targe 4 GTS, 911 Edition 50 Years Porsche Design, Turbo, Turbo Cabriolet, Turbo S, Turbo S Cabriolet, GT3, GT3 with Touring Package, GT3 RS, Sport Classic
Taycan models: Taycan, 4 Cross Turismo, 4S, 4S Cross Turismo,  GTS, GTS Sport Turismo, Turbo, Turbo Cross, Turbo S, Turbo S Cross
Panamera models: Panamera, Platinum Edition, 4, 4 Edition, 4 Executive, 4 Sport Turismo, 4S, 4S Executive, 4S Sport Turismo, 4 E-Hybrid, 4 E-Hybrid Platinum Edition, 4 E-Hybrid Executive, 4 E-Hybrid Sport Turismo, 4S E-Hybrid, 4S E-Hybrid Executive, 4S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo, GTS, GTS Sport Turismo, Turbo S, Turbo S Executive, Turbo S Sport Turismo, Turbo S E-Hybrid, Turbo S E-Hybrid Executive, Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo
Macan models: Macan, T, S, GTS
Cayenne models: Cayenne, Platinum Edition, Coupe, Coupe Platinum Edition, E-Hybrid, E-Hybrid Platinum Edition, E-Hybrid Coupe, E-Hybrid Coupe Platinum Edition, S, S Platinum Edition, S Coupe, S Coupe Platinum Edition, GTS, GTS Coupe, Turbo, Turbo Coupe, Turbo S E-Hybrid, Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe, Turbo GT
Could these be condensed to trim packages? Probably. But they are all listed as individual models.
Volkswagen
Current models are the ID.4, Atlas, Tiguan, Taos, Jetta, Arteon, and Golf, with the ID. Buzz coming 2024 (return of the VW bus!). Special shoutout to the Beetle of course.
Bugatti
Ugh. So, this is stupid and complicated, but ultimately they only have two models, the Chiron and the W16 Mistral. The Veyron doesn’t count if memory serves. At the end of the day these are cars that cost between $2 and $20 MILLION UNITED STATES DOLLARS so don’t even worry about it.
————
General Motors
Buick
Current models are the Encore, Envision, and Enclave.
Cadillac
Current models are the XT4, XT5, XT6, Escalade, CT4, and CT5.
Chevrolet
Current models are the Trax, Trailblazer, Equinox, Blazer, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, Colorado, Silverado, Bolt, Spark, Malibu, Camaro, Corvette Stingray, and Corvette Z06. Shoutout to the Cruze, tho, I drive one of those
GMC
Current models are the Canyon, Sierra, Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, and the Hummer EV.
Defunct: Hummer (brought back as a model under GMC), Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saturn
————
BMW AG
BMW
Also some annoying names. X1, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7, iX, 2 Series, 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, 8 Series, M3, M5, M8, i4, i7, M4, and Z4. Shoutout to the i3 though you stupid piece of shit golf cart
Mini
Current models are the Electic Hardtop, Hardtop 2 Door, Hardtop 4 Door, Countryman, Clubman, and Convertible.
Rolls-Royce
Because fancy, not a ton of models. Current models are the Spectre, Phantom, Phantom Extended, Cullinan, Ghost, Ghost Extended, and Black Badge.
————
Toyota Group
Lexus
Current models are the UX Hybrid, NX, RX, GX, LX, IS, ES, LS, RC, LC, with the RZ 450e coming sometime in the future.
Subaru
I’m like, triple into this brand despite not owning one. I’m a lesbian, I grew up in Lafayette where their factory is one of the biggest employers, and my grandpa actually retired from that factory. Anyway, current models are the Crosstrek, Forester, Outback, Ascent, Solterra, Impreza, Legacy, BRZ, and WRX. Shoutout to the short-lived Baja which they should bring back.
Toyota
Current models are the Crown, Prius, Corolla, Camry, Mirai, GR86, GR Supra, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, Highlander, Venza, C-HR, RAV4, Corolla Cross, 4Runner, and bZ4X.
Mazda
Current models are the MX-5 Miata, CX-30, CX-5, CX-50, CX-9, Mazda3, and if you’re in California, the MX-30 EV. Shoutout to the Mazda6, specifically model years 2009-2012, for the gas line spider problem.
Defunct: Scion, Suzuki
————
Ford Motor Company
Lincoln
Current models are the Navigator, Aviator, Nautilus, and Corsair, though they have the Star and L100 concept cars listed as well.
Ford
Current models are the Ecosport, Escape, Bronco, Explorer, Edge, Mustang Mach-E, Expedition, Maverick, Ranger, F-150, Mustang, and a handful of commercial vehicles. Shoutout to the Ford Focus and Fiesta.
Rivian*
This is a brand spanking new brand that only technically is owned by Ford. They’re all-electric trucks. The R1T is a standard pickup, and the R1S is totally enclosed; think more like a Chevy Suburban.
Defunct: Mercury
*Shared ownership with Amazon
————
Zhejiang Geely Holding Group
Lotus
This is a luxury/performance brand. The only models are the Eletre, Emira, and Evija.
Volvo
Current models are the C40 Recharge, XC40, XC60, XC90, S60, S90, V60, and V90.
Polestar
I did not know this brand existed until like, June of this year. They’re an electric lineup, and their models are the Polestar 1, Polestar 2, and Polestar 3. They only made 1500 Polestar 1s.
—————
Mercedes-Benz AG
Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG, and Maybach
I don’t see the point in differentiating between these three. Current models are the GLA, GLB, GLC, EQB, GLE, GLS, EQS, G-Class, A-Class, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, CLA, CLS, Mercedes-AMG GT, SL Roadster, and AMG One.
Defunct: smart
————
Notable standalone makes, meaning they are their own company and don’t have a billion subsidiaries (looking at you, Stellantis)
Aston Martin - luxury brand
McLaren - sports car and racing brand
Ferrari (after briefly being part of Fiat/FCA before it was part of Stellantis) - sports car and racing brand
Karma - weird hybrid sports car that’s like, wildly heavy for what it is?? Cars weigh a lot but that’s a LOT for a sports car.
Tesla - you know.

The subcompact SUV segment in India continues to be a popular choice for car buyers seeking a blend of functionality, size, and affordability. However, with high demand and ongoing supply chain issues, securing your desired subcompact SUV might involve a waiting period. This guide explores the current waiting times for popular subcompact SUV models across major Indian cities as of May 2024. Subcompact SUV Buying Guide City-wise Breakdown of Waiting Periods for Top Subcompact SUVs Here's a comprehensive table detailing the waiting period for seven popular subcompact SUV models across 20 major Indian cities: CityTata NexonMaruti BrezzaHyundai VenueHyundai Venue N LineKia SonetNissan MagniteRenault KigerNew Delhi2-3 Months1 Month3 Months2.5-3.5 Months3 MonthsNo Waiting0.5 MonthBengaluru3 Months2-3 Months3 Months3 Months2 Months0.5 Month0.5 MonthMumbai1.5-2 Months2-3 Months2 Months2 Months1 Month0.5-1 Month0.5 MonthHyderabad2-3 Months1-3 Months2-3 Months3-5 Months1-2 Months0.5-1 Month0.5-1 MonthPune1-1.5 Months2.5 Months3 Months3 Months2 Months0.5-1 Month0.5 MonthChennai1.5-2 Months2-3 Months3 Months2.5-3.5 Months1 Month0.5 MonthNo WaitingJaipur2 Months2.5 Months3-4 Months3 Months1-2 Months0.5 MonthNo WaitingAhmedabad2 Months1 Month3 Months3 Months1-2 Months0.5 MonthNo WaitingGurugram1-1.5 Months2-3 Months3 Months3 Months1 Month0.5-1 Month0.5 MonthLucknow2-2.5 Months2-3 Months3 Months3 Months2-3 Months0.5-1 Month0.5 MonthKolkata1-1.5 Months3 Months3 Months3 MonthsNo Waiting0.5 Month1 MonthThane2-3 Months2-3 Months3 Months3 Months1 Month0.5-1 MonthNo WaitingSurat2 Months2-3 Months3 Months3 Months1 Month0.5-1 MonthNo WaitingGhaziabad2 Months1 Month3 Months2.5-3.5 Months1 Month0.5-1 Month1 MonthChandigarh2-3 Months2-3 Months2.5-3.5 Months2-2.5 Months2 Months1 week0.5-1 MonthCoimbatore2 Months2-3 Months3 Months3 Months2 MonthsNo Waiting1 MonthPatna2 Months2-3 Months3 Months3 Months2 Months1 MonthNo WaitingFaridabad1 Month3 Months2 Months3 Months1-2 Months1 Month1 MonthIndore1-1.5 Months2-3 Months3 Months2.5-3.5 Months1 Months0.5-1 Month0.5-1 MonthNoida2 Months2-3 Months3-4 Months3 Months0.5 Month0.5-1 Month1 Monthpen_spark Factors Influencing Waiting Periods for Subcompact SUVs Several factors contribute to the varying waiting periods for subcompact SUVs: Demand and Supply: High demand for specific models, coupled with ongoing supply chain disruptions due to chip shortages and global economic factors, can lead to extended waiting times. Production Capacity: The manufacturer's production capacity plays a crucial role. Brands with a higher production output can fulfill orders faster. Variant Availability: The waiting period can differ based on the chosen variant (engine, transmission, features). Higher-end variants might have a longer wait due to limited production numbers. City-Specific Demand: Cities with a higher concentration of dealerships and brand loyalty may experience longer waits compared to locations with fewer dealerships. Tips for Minimizing Waiting Time When Buying a Subcompact SUV Here are some strategies to potentially reduce the waiting period for your desired subcompact SUV: Be Flexible: Consider alternative models or variants with shorter waiting times. Expand Your Search Radius: Explore dealerships in nearby cities that might have better stock availability. Talk to Dealers: Build a rapport with dealers and inquire about upcoming deliveries or cancellations that could expedite your purchase. Consider a Used Car: Explore the used car market for a well-maintained subcompact SUV model. Frequently Asked Questions: Q: What is the most readily available subcompact SUV in India right now? As of May 2024, the Renault Kiger boasts the shortest waiting period among popular subcompact SUVs, with a maximum wait time of 1 month in most cities. Q: Are there any factors that can shorten the waiting period for a subcompact SUV? Yes, being flexible with your choice of model, variant, and color can potentially lead to a shorter wait. Additionally, negotiating with dealers and exploring nearby dealerships can sometimes yield quicker delivery options. Q: What are some alternatives to buying a new subcompact SUV? Consider purchasing a certified pre-owned subcompact SUV from a reputable dealership. This can offer significant cost savings and potentially eliminate waiting periods.

Bigger and bigger container ships (Washington Post) Big ships can cause big problems. In 2021, the huge container ship Ever Given twisted sideways in the Suez Canal, blocking a crucial trade passage between Europe and Asia for almost a week. The trade traversing the canal was worth up to $10 billion daily. This week, a different heavy cargo ship struck a support column for the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, prompting the 1.6-mile-long bridge to come crashing down into the water almost immediately. The collapse of the bridge Tuesday morning has disrupted trade from the Port of Baltimore, which handled $81 billion of foreign cargo in 2023. Rebuilding the bridge could cost hundreds of millions of dollars. These two events, which took place almost exactly three years apart, occurred 5,000 miles from one another and in considerably different circumstances. But both involved enormous ships of the kind that have become the backbone of modern global trade. The Ever Given is what is known as an ultra-large ship, almost more than 1,300 feet long, with a gross tonnage of 220,000. The Dali ship, while still enormous, is a smaller ship with a length of around 980 feet and a gross tonnage of less than 100,000. In many ways, the giant container ship may be a symbol of our age. The Dali may have been sailing into an American port, but the ship was constructed by the Korean firm Hyundai, operated by a crew of Indian nationals, owned by a Singaporean firm and carrying containers on behalf of a Danish shipping giant that were en route to Sri Lanka.
Haiti: US guns pour into Port-au-Prince, fuelling surge in violence (BBC) armed gangs continue to run amok in Haiti’s capital, and they control over 80% of the country’s capital city. How exactly did we get here, with organized crime overpowering the country’s military? According to a U.N. report released in January, those gangs were able to build up capabilities by smuggling drugs and increasingly more powerful firearms into Haiti through the country’s porous borders. The report says that “most weapons are sourced in the U.S. and make their way to gang members and private residents through intermediaries, often through public and private ports and porous checkpoints.” The report noted that half a million legal and illegal weapons were present in Haiti in 2020.
Racial tensions cost Germany Inc. skilled foreign labour (Reuters) Manager Joerg Engelmann says he has pulled out all the stops to attract skilled foreign workers to his chemical engineering company in Chemnitz, east Germany. But once they arrived, the racial slurs and exclusion they experienced in the town have driven some of them away. His firm is one of five German medium-sized companies that told Reuters their foreign staff recently moved on or switched locations due to xenophobia, even as Europe’s biggest economy suffers a shortage of skilled labour. Many large companies in Germany and the Netherlands have expressed concern about the difficulty of hiring due to anti-immigrant sentiment. Some employers go a step further, saying they are actually losing staff because of it.
As death toll in Moscow attack rises to 143, migrants face fury and raids (Washington Post) Russian authorities on Wednesday raised the official death toll to 143 in the terrorist attack on a Moscow concert venue, and Baza, a Telegram channel close to Russian law enforcement, reported that as many as 95 people are missing and not included on the lists of dead or wounded. Russian security forces have arrested four men, all citizens of Tajikistan, and accused them of carrying out the assault. The men appeared in a Moscow court Sunday and showed signs of being badly beaten. Videos circulating widely on Russian social media showed evidence of torture, including one whose ear was partly cut off. In the wake of Friday’s assault, there has been a surge in raids on dormitories and workplaces where Central Asian migrants live and work, as well as heightened checks on migrant workers. Russia is home to millions of Central Asian immigrants and migrant workers who commonly face discrimination, which is certain to intensify after the arrests in the Crocus City Hall rampage.
Putin says Russia will not attack NATO, but F-16s will be shot down in Ukraine (Reuters) Russia has no designs on any NATO country and will not attack Poland, the Baltic states or the Czech Republic but if the West supplies F-16 fighters to Ukraine then they will be shot down by Russian forces, President Vladimir Putin said late on Wednesday. Speaking to Russian air force pilots, Putin said the U.S.-led military alliance had expanded eastwards towards Russia since the 1991 fall of the Soviet Union but that Moscow had no plans to attack a NATO state. “We have no aggressive intentions towards these states,” Putin said. “The idea that we will attack some other country—Poland, the Baltic States, and the Czechs are also being scared—is complete nonsense. It’s just drivel.” Asked about F-16 fighters which the West has promised to send to Ukraine, Putin said such aircraft would not change the situation in Ukraine. “And we will destroy the aircraft just as we destroy today tanks, armoured vehicles and other equipment, including multiple rocket launchers. If they will be used from airfields in third countries, they become for us legitimate targets, wherever they might be located,” Putin said.
Serbia eyes the “right time” for a new war with Kosovo (Die Welt) Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić cooperates closely with Russia, including on security and arms issues. Now he is threatening to invade Kosovo, which Serbia does not recognize as an independent country. If Donald Trump were to win, and NATO to weaken, Vucic may be ready to move, writes Carolina Drüten in German daily Die Welt. “We will wait for the right time and seize our opportunity...” That was the ominous warning last weekend of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić as the longstanding Balkan conflict continues to heat up. It’s worth noting that Vučić had already spoken admiringly in December of the current and previous presidents of Azerbaijan, who had waited a total of 27 years for the “right time” and geopolitical circumstances to recapture Nagorno-Karabakh. A new Balkan war is not imminent, but the conflict between Serbia and Kosovo has been coming to a head for months. It is about Kosovo’s status as an independent nation, which Serbia does not recognize. The EU and the U.S. have been trying to find a solution for years, but the situation is deadlocked.
Myanmar’s military makes its annual parade of strength despite unprecedented battlefield losses (AP) The head of Myanmar’s ruling military council marked Armed Forces Day on Wednesday with a speech claiming that the nation’s youth were being tricked into supporting the resistance against army rule, and that ethnic armed groups allied with the resistance engage in drug trafficking, natural resources smuggling and illegal gambling. Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing spoke in the capital, Naypyitaw, where thousands of military personnel paraded in an annual show of strength, even as the army has suffered a series of unprecedented battlefield defeats that have tarnished their once invincible reputation. Over the past five months, Min Aung Hlaing’s army has been routed in northern Shan state, is conceding swathes of territory in Rakhine state in the west and is under growing attack in other regions.
Japan nappy maker shifts from babies to adults (BBC) A Japanese nappy maker has announced that it will stop producing diapers for babies in the country and, instead, focus on the market for adults. Oji Holdings is the latest firm to make such a shift in a rapidly ageing Japan, where birth rates are at a record low. Sales of adult nappies outpaced those for infants in the country for more than a decade. The number of babies born in Japan in 2023—758,631—was down by 5.1% from the previous year. It was also the lowest number of births on record in Japan since the 19th Century. In the 1970s, that figure stood at more than two million.
Doctors visiting a Gaza hospital are stunned by the war’s toll on Palestinian children (AP) An international team of doctors visiting a hospital in central Gaza was prepared for the worst. But the gruesome impact Israel’s war against Hamas is having on Palestinian children still left them stunned. One toddler died from a brain injury caused by an Israeli strike that fractured his skull. His cousin, an infant, is still fighting for her life with part of her face blown off by the same strike. An unrelated 10-year-old boy screamed out in pain for his parents, not knowing that they were killed in the strike. Beside him was his sister, but he didn’t recognize her because burns covered almost her entire body. These gut-wrenching casualties were described to The Associated Press by Tanya Haj-Hassan, a pediatric intensive-care doctor from Jordan, following a 10-hour overnight shift at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the town of Deir al-Balah.
Israel Deploys Expansive Facial Recognition Program in Gaza (NYT) Within minutes of walking through an Israeli military checkpoint along Gaza’s central highway on Nov. 19, the Palestinian poet Mosab Abu Toha was asked to step out of the crowd. He put down his 3-year-old son, whom he was carrying, and sat in front of a military jeep. Half an hour later, Mr. Abu Toha heard his name called. Then he was blindfolded and led away for interrogation. It turned out Mr. Abu Toha had walked into the range of cameras embedded with facial recognition technology, according to three Israeli intelligence officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity. After his face was scanned and he was identified, an artificial intelligence program found that the poet was on an Israeli list of wanted persons, they said. Mr. Abu Toha is one of hundreds of Palestinians who have been picked out by a previously undisclosed Israeli facial recognition program that was started in Gaza late last year. The expansive and experimental effort is being used to conduct mass surveillance there, collecting and cataloging the faces of Palestinians without their knowledge or consent, according to Israeli intelligence officers, military officials and soldiers.
Jordan’s government struggles to contain unrest as Gaza protests grow (Washington Post) Hundreds of protesters gathered in the Jordanian capital Tuesday for a third straight night to call for an end to Israel’s war in Gaza, clashing with baton-carrying riot police before tear gas rained down on them. On Wednesday night, demonstrators were back on the streets. “Open the borders,” they chanted. Though there have been regular protests in Amman, Jordan, throughout the nearly six-month war, the government has largely managed to contain the situation by aligning itself with public sentiment—harshly criticizing Israel’s conduct of the war and championing the Palestinian cause. But the scenes this week appeared more spontaneous, the crowds larger and the anger more raw, sending shock waves through the country’s powerful security establishment. Jordan is home to more than 2 million Palestinian refugees, most of whom have Jordanian citizenship. Analysts estimate half of the population is of Palestinian descent. For many here, geographically and emotionally, the war in Gaza feels very close.
Security in Congo’s east is deteriorating, UN says (AP) Security in Congo’s mineral-rich east has deteriorated since recent elections, with a rebel group allegedly linked to neighboring Rwanda making “significant advances and expanding its territory,” the U.N. special envoy for the conflict-wracked African nation said Wednesday. Bintou Keita told the U.N. Security Council this has created “an even more disastrous humanitarian situation, with internal displacement reaching unparalleled numbers.” Last month, the United States told Rwanda and Congo that they “must walk back from the brink of war,” the sharpest warning yet of a looming conflict.

À l’an prochain

Why You Should Get A Renault Kiger CVT Turbo
Anyone would be mighty excited to decide on a new car for their family. Here’s one such journey laid bare with regards to the Renault Kiger for sale.
We have owned the Hyundai Accent, Maruti Swift and lastly Hyundai Xcent (all petrol manual variants). Driving a manual car in intense traffic was taking its toll and hence we decided to look for a new automatic car that would, hopefully, bring back some ease into the commute. What’s more, the Xcent was having problems with some part or the other every year driving up the ownership cost. After having owned two Hyundai cars, I have come to realize that after three/four years it’s a downhill experience with Hyundai and Hyundai replacement parts are not cheap!! Thus began our search by browsing the internet to find the most VFM automatic car in 2023.
I went through most reviews of every car in my budget on YouTube and forums on the internet. From what I could absorb, NA engines with 4-cylinder engines were the best bet according to the experts, which swayed me towards the Honda Amaze CVT and Brezza VXI AMT.
We first headed towards the Honda showroom and having driven the Honda Amaze CVT, I must say it is a car worth every penny for city bumper-to-bumper driving. Googling, I found that a new facelift is to debut in 2024, which kind of killed my interest in the current generation because there were quite a few features missing in the present car including TPMS.
Next, we headed to the Maruti showroom. Brezza VXI AMT has quite a lot of features missing for the price it commanded. I thought the car was OVERPRICED big time and came to the decision rather swiftly of getting a three-cylinder engine with turbo if it offered better value.
We first headed to Hyundai to test drive the Venue DCT and I was not at all impressed with its looks or driving, moreover the rear felt crampy, but my wife liked it and as she was going to drive it every day who was I to complain. Still, we decided to explore and see what else is available in the market.
Next, we headed to KIA, which in my opinion has the best-looking car out there both exteriorly and interiorly in the automatic range Kia Sonet. With the premium price it commanded and having read the horror stories about the DCT gearbox in city bumper traffic, we decided that it was not for us.
In the meanwhile, I chanced upon a white Renault and the car was really eye-catching. I made a note of Renault Kiger as it passed by me. I did an extensive search on Renault Kiger and it seemed the most VFM and even more in comparison to its rivals. There were quite a few complaints about mud problems with the car, but it seems with the new Kiger 2023 the company had it all sorted out. When discussing with friends and colleagues, they all dissed the car like it was some sort of China-made product even though one had ever owned a Renault car. I wonder why people have this negative connotation about Renault. What’s more, initially I was having a hard time differentiating between a Renault Kwid and a Renault Kiger. My wife decided there and then that she did not want to even look at the car, let alone drive it. But going through all the comparisons, it seemed a no-brainer that this is the most VFM car out there. I eventually managed to coax her to at least see and drive the car before giving up on it.
When I first saw the Renault Kiger in the showroom, I was absolutely gobsmacked! It really is beautiful and stylish with a whole load of space inside. It really felt big on the inside. They didn’t have the CVT Turbo to test drive at that moment and asked me if they could get it to my home, which was a downer for me. Anyway, when I did finally get hold of it, the drive was a pleasure. We took it on a steep incline with four of us onboard and in normal mode it had no problems pulling itself up. We, or rather I, immediately knew “This is it!” That is how good the test drive felt.
It checked all the boxes with regards to CVT reliability in bumper-to-bumper traffic, and ease of driving, and from a learned source the CVT mated to a turbo is the best combination that one can have for city drives. All this while, friends and relatives were still lecturing us on resale value and how Renault might wind up pretty soon. But the car had felt good to drive and we decided that our safety and convenience within our budget should take precedence. With that in mind, we decided to bite the bullet and go ahead with booking the car and now - the rest is history.
Tumblr media
One-month ownership experience:
It’s been a month since we got the car and the car is truly a gem! It has got some road presence and people do stare a bit longer at your car -- I don’t know if it is because you do not see so many Kigers on the road, but I guess it definitely helps. The sound of the turbo spooling is exhilarating. There is also no more fatigue from driving through traffic, which is a blessing. A lot of people have been complaining about the AC's effectiveness, but I find it more than adequate. The temperature is always set at 26 with ACC switched on and I have never had a chance to complain.
The audio setup is good and should suffice for most people. With the heavy rains that we have had recently, I have had the chance to thread through flooded subways and the car performs a charm. Full marks to Kiger on getting the ground clearance right, the only downside being some minimal body roll.
Special mention again to the space management inside the car as although the vehicle looks smaller from the outside, it feels big on the inside where it really counts. How they have managed that with such a big boot space is a marvel in automobile engineering. This is truly the USP of the car.

The Hyundai Venue continues to be a strong contender in the competitive subcompact SUV segment. In March 2024, Hyundai introduced the Executive variant, strategically positioned between the S and S(O) trims. This addition caters to budget-conscious buyers seeking access to the Venue's peppy turbo-petrol engine at a more attractive price point. This comprehensive guide delves into the key features, design elements, and functionalities of the Venue Executive, helping you decide if it's the right fit for your needs. A Visual Tour: Exploring the Venue Executive's Exterior Let's begin by examining the exterior design of the Venue Executive. Here's a breakdown of the key visual aspects: Hyundai Venue Executive Headlights: The Executive variant features halogen headlights, a more basic option compared to the projector units found on the S(O) trim. While they provide adequate illumination, they lack the premium aesthetic of the projector setup. Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) and Cornering Lamps: These features, present on the S(O) variant, are absent on the Executive trim. This might be a consideration for some drivers who prioritize enhanced visibility, particularly during daytime driving or maneuvering in low-light conditions. Grille: The signature dark chrome grille inserts, a standard feature across all Venue trims, remain present on the Executive variant, maintaining the SUV's bold and contemporary look. Door Handles and ORVMs: The Executive trim features body-colored door handles and Outside Rear View Mirrors (ORVMs). While some might prefer chrome accents for a touch of elegance, the body-colored option offers a clean and streamlined aesthetic. Wheels: The Venue Executive rides on stylish 16-inch wheels with attractive wheel covers. These wheels provide a good balance between functionality and aesthetics, contributing to the SUV's overall sporty appeal. Roof Rails: Standard roof rails enhance the versatility of the Venue Executive, allowing you to mount additional cargo carriers for luggage or sporting equipment. Rear Design: The tailgate displays "Executive" and "Turbo" badges, proudly showcasing the variant's identity. However, unlike the S(O) trim, the Executive variant misses out on the connected LED taillights, opting for a more conventional lighting setup. Stepping Inside: Unveiling the Venue Executive's Cabin The interior of the Venue Executive features a black and beige color theme, offering a spacious and airy feel. Silver accents around the air conditioning vents, center console, and steering wheel add a touch of sophistication. Here are some key features to explore: Seating: The Executive trim provides adjustable headrests for all passengers, ensuring optimal comfort during long journeys. The 60:40 split-folding rear seats offer flexibility for accommodating passengers and cargo. Additionally, a front center armrest with storage and a 2-step reclining function for the rear seats enhance passenger comfort and convenience. Driver Seat Adjustment: While the S(O) variant offers a height-adjustable driver's seat, the Executive variant lacks this feature. This might be a consideration for taller drivers who require additional headroom or a more customized seating position. Infotainment System: The Venue Executive boasts an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that provides access to entertainment, navigation, and connectivity features. While it might not be the most advanced system on the market, it offers essential functionalities for a satisfying multimedia experience. Instrument Cluster: A semi-digital driver display provides essential driving information in a clear and concise format. Steering-Mounted Controls: These controls allow drivers to manage audio, cruise control, and phone calls without taking their hands off the wheel, enhancing safety and convenience. Climate Control: Manual air conditioning with rear vents ensures a comfortable temperature for all passengers throughout the cabin. Rear Wiper and Washer: The rear wiper and washer improve visibility during rain or snowy conditions, promoting safe driving in all weather scenarios. Safety First: Exploring the Venue Executive's Safety Features Hyundai prioritizes passenger safety in the Venue Executive with a comprehensive suite of features: Airbags: Six airbags, strategically positioned throughout the cabin, offer crucial protection for the driver and passengers in the event of a collision. Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS): This system continuously monitors tire pressure, alerting drivers to any potential issues that could affect handling and safety. Electronic Stability Control (ESC): This system helps maintain vehicle control during challenging driving conditions or sudden maneuvers by automatically applying brakes to individual wheels. 3-Point Seatbelts for All Passengers: All seating positions in the Venue Executive are equipped with 3-point seatbelts, ensuring optimal safety for everyone on board. FAQs Q: What is the positioning of the Hyundai Venue Executive variant in the lineup? A: The Venue Executive variant serves as the entry-level option for the turbo-petrol lineup, positioned between the mid-spec S and S(O) trims, offering a balance of affordability and features. Q: What are the notable exterior features of the Venue Executive? A: The Venue Executive boasts auto-halogen headlights, dark chrome inserts on the grille, body-colored door handles, 16-inch wheels, and roof rails, enhancing its style and sophistication on the road. Q: What safety features does the Hyundai Venue Executive offer? A: The Venue Executive prioritizes passenger safety with six airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), electronic stability control (ESC), and 3-point seatbelts for all occupants, ensuring peace of mind on every journey. Tata Nexon Facelift Test Mule Spotted In The Wild Once Again
Tumblr media
● Tata began testing the Nexon facelift in early 2023.
● It is the second major refresh while the first facelift came in early 2020.
● Exterior updates include a new alloy wheel design, vertically stacked LED headlights and connected LED taillights.
● Inside, it will have a new steering wheel, updated upholstery and centre console.
● Likely to get with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, up to six airbags and 360-degree camera.
● Expected to be launched in early 2024 with prices starting at Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom)
Since the early months of 2023, there have been ample sightings of the Tata Nexon facelift undergoing testing, with the camouflage slowly reducing as time goes on. We have now spotted another test mule of the updated SUV on tests – although still draped in heavy camouflage – suggesting it’s inching closer to being production-ready. This will be the second major overhaul for the sub-4m SUV after the 2020 update.
Design Details Revealed So Far
Its profile is unlikely to get any major design changes save for the revised alloy wheels. At the back, the updated Nexon will have a reshaped boot, a tweaked bumper and connected LED taillights. The facelifted Nexon will also come with dynamic turn indicators as seen on a test mule recently. All these design changes will likely make their way on the Nexon’s EV versions as well
Tumblr media

THE FUTURE OF DIGITAL MARKETING IN DUBAI? | METAVERSE
Is the metaverse truly the future of digital marketing? Mark Zuckerberg declared his ambition to create a 'metaverse' that would serve as the next internet when Facebook changed its name to "Meta" in 2021 and declared that the metaverse will be its new area of focus going forward. And now, numerous well-known corporations are making use of the metaverse as it grows for their marketing campaigns.
So What Exactly Is The Metaverse?
An online digital realm where individuals can immerse themselves using VR (virtual reality) or AR (augmented reality) - this is the metaverse. Users here build avatars that roam a 3D environment where they may interact with others and their surroundings.
The prospects offered by metaverse technology are unimaginably numerous, and it is anticipated that the metaverse market will reach $800 billion by 2024, so clearly it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. As the metaverse expands, more and more businesses are realizing the potential it holds for engaging consumers in interesting ways and offering them thrilling, and unforgettable brand experiences. In light of the metaverse's impending dominance, let's discuss what the future of marketing might look like for digital advertising companies in Dubai.
Metaverse Marketing Strategies:
To remain relevant to a millennial or Gen-Z audience, who are thought to be the most enthusiastic supporters of the metaverse, digital marketing agencies in Dubai are aiming to shift their digital marketing strategy towards the metaverse.
Gen-Z users socialize twice as much in the metaverse than they do in the real world. Despite the fact that many users are likely younger, their impact and buying power is only expected to increase in the future.
For businesses and brands, the opportunity to sell their goods and services is greatly increased through developing this virtual platform that everyone can use. Even though the metaverse is still in its early phases of development, businesses are already starting to use it to connect with consumers. In the metaverse, you can develop your own platform for promoting a company's goods or services. Numerous brands have already demonstrated that this approach, which requires significant financial investment, effort, and study, is profitable.
Product, price, promotion, and place make up the four P's that constitute the marketing mix. A new marketplace and fresh advertising strategies are made available by the metaverse. The 2022 Summit was held in the metaverse by the e-commerce platform for online stores, Shopify. In-app purchases, music streaming, and meal delivery were all possible thanks to partnerships with Spotify and Uber Eats during this experience. In contrast to physical events, which are constrained by the venue's capacity and space restrictions, hosting a virtual conference exponentially expands the potential audience size.
With billboards that can be placed on virtual highways and on-platform product placement, native advertising is adaptable to the metaverse. Events that take place in the metaverse also provide a variety of sponsorship opportunities.
Advertising has already been used on this new platform by well-known companies like Samsung and Coca-Cola. Samsung developed a treasure hunt on the platform where players could compete to win a Galaxy S22, while Coca-Cola introduced a new limited-edition beverage inside the metaverse.
A wide range of companies providing goods including furniture and household goods, as well as clothing companies, can benefit from AR. In order to make sure they like the aesthetic and that the product's size is appropriate, AR enables clients to virtually position furniture in their virtual homes before making a purchase. This applies to apparel companies as well, as shoppers may utilize AR to virtually try on garments before making a purchase.
Customers can view a virtual 3D model of a product in the metaverse before making a purchase. Hyundai has made use of this functionality by building a digital Motorstudio on the platform where customers can browse various car models, view educational films, and make purchases.
Metaverse Marketing Challenges:
It can be a little difficult to determine how to measure performance because the metaverse offers new marketing strategies that make it difficult to transfer traditional measures.
Anyone can enter the metaverse for free if they have the necessary technology, and there isn't any authority in charge of overseeing it at the moment. Brands wishing to advertise in the metaverse should be extremely concerned about this because they have no say over how other user-generated content will appear next to their brand and run the danger of digital vandalism.
For businesses trying to sell in the metaverse, accessibility is a major barrier. Currently, in order to access the metaverse, a powerful computer with fast internet connectivity is needed, as well as a VR headset for the majority of the virtual aspects. A lot of people don't have access to these expensive pieces of technology, so not everyone will be able to immediately access the metaverse.
Marketing efforts to reach a global audience may be severely hampered by data privacy and security issues associated with the metaverse's implementation. To adapt to this new environment, new privacy and protection techniques are being developed, however, it is unclear how much faith we can currently have in this newly created technology. It is still too early to predict whether the metaverse will have a single set of security and privacy standards that apply to all platforms or whether different nations would require their own rules.
So Is This The Future Of Digital Marketing?
Large corporations are racing to be the first to use the platform for promotion as it grows in popularity, but not everyone is on board with the metaverse, with many people being completely opposed. Although as the platform acquires more popularity and exposure, thoughts of this kind will probably shift.
A new kind of marketing platform is being offered by the metaverse, but it won't take the place of conventional marketing strategies anytime soon. Some businesses will profit from what the metaverse has to offer, but not all of them.
Final Note:
It’s hard to say if the metaverse is really the future of digital marketing, at least not for now. Traditional digital marketing strategies continue to reign supreme. However, digital marketing in Dubai is on a fast track to joining the metaverse world, with some digital marketing agencies in Dubai already on the new platform. Only time will tell if this new way of marketing will really kick-off, or if it will remain yet another great idea of what could have been.
