White Noise (2022) – la recensione
Tumblr media
... #notizie #news #breakingnews #cronaca #politica #eventi #sport #moda Read the full article

Marco Basaiti, Eve, 1504, oil on panel, 152 x 84 cm, Galleria Borghese.
“Pendant to the Adam, the painting was part of Scipione Borghese’s collection. Several fragmentary, no longer visible, letters in the scroll on the trunk of the tree next to Eve have been read as ‘Zambellin’, the diminutive of the famous painter Giovanni Bellini. However, in 1925 the panels were assigned to Bellini’s disciple Marco Basaiti, an attribution subsequently accepted by scholars. There are clear references to the engraving, drawings, and paintings portraying the same subjects by the great German artist Albrecht Dürer before, during, and right after his second stay in Venice (1505-1507).”

Il Toro Pomodoro : ep118
Cursed is the man forced to walk on his own hind legs when all he desires is to ride upon two wheels. Gonzo Journalist Hunter S. Thompson once said in his essay Song of the Sausage Creature “There are some things nobody needs in this world, and a bright red, hunchback, warp-speed 900cc cafe racer is one of them—but I want one anyway, and on some days I actually believe I need one. That is why they are dangerous.”
I can’t imagine Dangerous Dave saying that “nobody needs” a fiery red Ducati. Motorcycles are so central to his being that sometimes I imagine his veins are actually pumping gasoline. In fact, I don’t know a single motorcyclist (or biker) who doesn’t find the motorcycle an essential function of their lives.
The vast majority of members of so-called “outlaw” biker gangs are armed forces veterans who’ve been through hell, probably suffer from some form of PTSD, and just want to give the middle finger to the system. Once “patched in” to a biker gang, you’re in for life … or until you can no longer ride a motorcycle. The motorcycle is that central to their lifestyle.
Rosso Corsa
Italians are all about passion and in 1907 they adopted rosso corsa (racing red) as their national motorsports color when Prince Scipione Borghese won the Peking to Paris race in grand style. The red represents the passion, and in this case, it represents the adrenaline filled blood coursing through Dangerous Dave’s veins.
Dangerous Dave is walking with an odd limp as he pushes the motorcycles out of the garage, then I notice that he’s got a raging erection. Riding it seems, is more than just experiential for him. It’s downright erotic.
Dangerous Dave’s bike thunders to life with a chatter and clatter that splits the sky. I thumb my bike to life and off we go. Dangerous Dave manages to keep the raging bull in the chute until we reach the tunnels on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge. When he can no longer contain the raging bull, he passes me at triple digit speeds and in a tall, proud wheelie.
A highway patrol officer stalking the exit of the tunnel makes a feeble attempt at catching him before turning his sights on me. The officer is convinced that we were riding together, but I’m adamant that it was merely a coincidence that “some lunatic” passed us like that “on one wheel” and I’m just an innocent bystander in the equation. The officer runs my license and when my record comes back clean, determines that I’m probably not the kind of person who would ride with “whoever that idiot was” and lets me go.
I never catch Dangerous Dave on the road, but he’s triumphantly waiting for me at Oakville Grocery.
Dangerous Dave: I knew you’d talk your way out of it!
Me: You crazy fucker.
Dangerous Dave: When he lit me up, I lit it up.
Me: How fast?
Dangerous Dave: About a buck eighty …
Me: You hit 180mph on the way here? Where?
Dangerous Dave: The whole way bro.

Józef Poniatowski’s women.
Part IV. The emperor’s sister and a couple of cousins.
Good evening, dear all, and let me continue about prince Józef’s women.
The first point in today’s list will be the person I omitted writing the first part of the series. Namely - Pauline, a sister of Napoleon.
Tumblr media
Images used for collage: Poniatowski’s portrait by Grassi, and Pauline’s by Robert Lefèvre
Excluding the four women from the above-mentioned post (who are documented to be prince Józef’s love interests) it is the princess Borghese who has the highest probability of having affair with Poniatowski. The certainty of being so is not 100%, because, as I have found reading documents from the époque, the alleged romance was mentioned by one person only (by Anetka Potocka), and the rest of the people just quoted her.
Tumblr media
Pauline Bonaparte-Borghese, Duchess of Guastalla, by Robert Lefèvre
And, if the affair did have place, it didn’t last long. Because Pauline has never been to Poland, and Poniatowski stayed in France only about 4 months in 1811.
Tumblr media
Portrait of Pauline Bonaparte, by Salomon-Guillaume Counis
Btw, this is my favourite image of Pauline, because the creators of my favourite Napoleonic TV series chose an actress to play Pauline who looked pretty much like she on this portrait.
The next person in my list will be the Duchess Maria of Württemberg, née Czartoryska. Being the daughter of the princess Izabela and - officially - the prince Adam (and unofficially - of the king Stanisław August himself), princess Maria was Pepi’s second cousin. (A little bit about the Czartoryskis I wrote there.)
Tumblr media
Images used for collage: a copy of Grassi’s portrait of prince Józef, and Maria’s portrait by Heinrich Friedrich Füger
Maria was 5 years younger than her cousins, and though some historians name her among the possible brides the Poniatowskis family were considering for Pepi, I do not think this is plausible. Because having only sixteen years she was given by her parents as a wife to the duke Louis of Württemberg.
Tumblr media
Portrait of Maria Anna Czartoryska, Duchess von Württemberg, made by Louis-François Marteau
The marriage, however, didn’t prove to happy. The Duke, being made the commander of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania's army during the War in Defense of the Constitution in 1792, betrayed the Commonwealth, refusing sending his troops to fight the Russians. And Maria, having that year given birth of their only child, a son, initiated next year divorce.
Tumblr media
Maria’s portrait by Johann Baptist von Lampi the Elder
As for prince Józef and his possible relations with Maria - there is a list written by Maria’s mother around the year 1788, when Maria and her husband after 4 years in Prussia came to settle in Warsaw. And in this list the princess Izabela warned her daughter, that she should have been careful when prince Józef would start courting her! As a proof of that piece of advice the princess Izabela wrote that “Prince Joseph himself says loudly that he is incapable of true love, that he only likes to play with women.”
Not very much of evidence, is it? But had there be no any interest between Maria and Józef the former’s mother would not have had a reason to warn her daughter.
Anyway, it looks like princess Izabella’s piece of advice made her daughter reject Pepi’s courtship (if the latter did happen). Because no one of diarists ever mentioned any kind of romantic liaison between the two.
Tumblr media
Maria’s portrait by un unknown author, ci 1810.
Although in 1813, upon learning of the death of Prince Joseph, in a letter to her brother prince Adam Maria expressed a great regret which she claimed would not leave her until her death.
And what about Maria herself? What happened to her after divorce? Alas, her later life didn’t look like as a happy one. Having divorced the duke she had to give their son away to the his father’s family (who raised the boy in the spirit of polonophobia…). Never remarrying, Maria found her “consolation” in philanthropy and writing (her novel Malvina is considered to be Polish first psychological novel).
The last woman of today’s list will be… Maria’s younger sister, princess Sophia (Zofia) Czartoryska, married name Zamoyska.
Tumblr media
Images used for collage: prince Jozef’s portrait by Antoni Brodowski and princess Sophia’s - unknown author’s copy after Josef Grassi
She was 10 years younger than Maria (and 15 - than Pepi), and though in the last years of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth existence she was among other considered as a possible bride for prince Józef this project remained “on paper”. And eventually, in 1798, Sophia married Stanisław, count Zamoyski.
Tumblr media
Portrait of Stanisław and Sophia Zamoyski with their children, Sebastian Ludwik Wilhelm Norblin
And here lies the biggest problem, „undermining” a theory that there might have been a romance between countess Zamoyska and prince Poniatowski - because in comparison with her older sister Sophia’s marriages seemed to be a happy one. She and her husband had 8 children, and in society she was known as a woman of very high virtues.
Tumblr media
Sophia’s portrait by Josef Grassi
Nevertheless, there is a historian (Waldemar Łysiak) which stated there might have been possibility and that is why I feel I have to mention this.
Everything happened in spring of 1813, when prince Józef with the Polish Army he managed to gather after the disaster of the previous year stayed in Kraków. A lot of people tried that time to dissuade him to lead this army to the emperor of the Frenchmen, advising switching sizes, joining the anti-napoleonic coalition instead. And the beautiful Sophia was among those people. She even arranged - in her country house “Pod Lipkami” (“Under linden trees”) - a farewell party for the Polish army and its commander on the eve of their leaving. (And, in Łysiak’s opinion, the consummation of the romance might have happened just there.) The party that in fact turned out to be the last , as Juliusz Fałkowski called it, “nice and happy moments of prince Jozef’s life" on Polish soil…

National Trust, Osterley Park
A small bronze reproduction of the so-called Borghese Vase, a colossal marble krater formerly in the Borghese collection in Rome, purchased with the Borghese collection of antiquities by Napoleon I in 1807 and today in the Musée du Louvre, Paris.
This work was possibly bought as part of the Robert Adam (1728–1792) remodelling of the Marble Hall between 1760 and 1780, but not mentioned in the 1782 inventory of Osterley Park. It was first noted in the 1871 inventory of Osterley Park, 'pair of 19in bronze Vases on Square Carved Wood pedastals [sic]', Entrance Hall.

Summary: Vittoria is struck with a cold.
Notes: Told from Leonardo's POV
“Mr. Borghese, your daughter is completely fine.”
“She has a sore throat, a cough, and a-
“All symptoms of a cold,” Dr. Voglbaum reassured.
“A common cold’s symptoms can mask more serious conditions. It very well could be tuberculosis. Or bronchiectasis, polio, smallpox, or pneumonia…” Leonardo insisted, “Have you run every test?”
The minute her symptoms had started, he had done everything correctly. He had called their private doctor, put her to bed, and done thorough research on everything that might be wrong with his little girl. And then Dr. Voglbaum had the audacity to chalk it up to a cold.
The doctor sighed, which Leonardo found quite rude. Does he want my daughter to drop dead? “No sir, but I’m adamant that it’s just a common cold. Vittoria doesn’t even have a fever. I’m really quite certain your daughter is not dying.”
The pure apathy from this man. “Quite isn’t one hundred percent, doctor.”
“She’s your only child, yes?” he asked.
No. “Yes.”
“It’s absolutely normal to think the worst when she’s feeling unwell, but I promise you, if I were truly concerned then I’d let you know. There’s no need for antibiotics. Just lots of rest and fluids. She’ll be fine in about a week,” his doctor smiled.
“Dr. Voglbaum-,”
“Vittoria hasn’t used any word other than, what was the adjective you used dear?” he called out to Vittoria, who was reclining against her pillow.
“Icky,” she said, then sneezed.
“Ah yes, icky, to describe her condition. She’s not dying,” he laughed, “Are you dear?”
“No, sir,” she giggled.
Leonardo’s temper flared, though he made his best effort to hide it. The doctor’s dismissal of his beyond reasonable demands and theories irritated him. It was as if he was laughing at the plausibility of something being wrong with Vittoria other than being simply struck with a common cold. “Mr. Borghese, just give her a Contac- one every twelve hours- and some cod liver oil. Vapo works wonders. It’s nothing you can’t treat without the items in your home,” he grinned as he snapped his bag closed.
“What about her sedatives?”
“Shouldn’t be a problem. If you are worried, then give her a half of the dose for the day. A fourth of a tablet in the morning and the other quarter at night rather than the full dose,” he recommended before turning to wave at his patient, “Good day, Vittoria. Feel better.”
“Have a good day Dr. Voglbaum,” she said pleasantly.
And just like that, he gave the father-daughter duo a farewell. His posture was stiff, full of irritation and anger as his concerns were played off in such a callous and apathetic manner. “Papa,” Vittoria giggled, “You have a funny look!”
He instantly relaxed hearing her amused voice, “Oh?”
“Uh-huh,” she giggled before sneezing again, her nose running.
Ugh. He did his best to hide his grimace as he passed her a tissue. “Bless you.”
Then she sneezed again. “Bless you again…”
Then again, “Bless you times three!”
Her sneezing didn't, and disgustingly some even sprayed in his face. “Vittoria,” he said before his lip curled as she sneezed into her hands!
“Sneeze into your elbow principessa,” he said and watched her wipe her little hands on her nightie, “No, Vittoria don’t do that.”
When the cough started, he instantly had her pop a cotac to prevent her from spraying her germs around the room. This is disgusting but easier than people make it seem, he thought positively and indeed too soon.
***
“PAPA!” screamed the hoarse voice that was amplified by the bell he had given her.
My mistake. He leaped out of his seat to go see her, immediately worried that his valid concerns had come to life and she was coughing up blood. The minute he was in her doorway, he saw herself cocooned in her covers, only her small doll-like head peeking out. She was several feet away but he could actually hear her teeth chattering. “I-I’m-I’m co-cold!”
Is that all? It was a simple enough fix and after spending the next few minutes wrapping her up like a mummy, he thought it was over. “Pa-Papa…” she shivered, “I’m-I’m st-still freezing!”
“Still?”
“Ca-can y-you turn up the hea-heat?”
“No,” he said firmly.
She was much too young to understand this but their home had the best heating installation in the entirety of Garland City. Naturally, that cost him a pretty penny, not that he couldn't afford it mind you, but he wasn’t about to raise their bill on a whim. Besides, their home was the perfect temperature. Vittoria will just have to be content with blankets. “But Papa-!” she coughed before he gave her a hard look.
“I’ll be right back with more blankets,” he said, forcing himself to go to each room to find the warmest ones, including hers.
When Leonardo stepped in, his eyes rested on the bed where he took her mother hundreds of times. The very spot where he may have conceived his first child with her. His chest ached as he remembered his boy. I’m taking very good care of your sister, Andrea, he thought warmly before his own mood turned as frigid as Vittoria’s temperature, La tengo in vita, puttana senza cuore. Leonardo aggressively ripped the duvet off the bed and left the room, closing it with a slam that vibrated against the walls. It was an inconveniently short walk back to Vittoria’s room, but thankfully slipping on his mask in the span of a second was something he had been well-versed in for decades.
As he stepped in, he had to catch himself as he stumbled over the layers of blankets scattered on the floor. Vittoria had stripped off all of the linens on her bed and her robe lay sprawled on the floor and was in the midst of tying her hair up in a high ponytail. How did she kick the blankets all the way across the room? “What-”
“I’m really hot now, Papa!” she whined, her eyes brimming with tears.
She seemed even more miserable now than she had a few moments ago. Vittoria stood up, her legs shaking, “I feel so weak!”
Her desperation to cool down her body temperature led her to grab the glass of water on her bedside and dumping it all over her head. “Vittoria!” he scolded, dropping the blankets on the floor.
“Now I’m freezing again!” she cried, her skin instantly erupting into gooseflesh and her teeth began to grind hard against each other.
“Well of course you’re freezing,” he admonished as he went over to pull her into her bathroom, “You just dumped water on your head.”
He thought her soft sobs were a tad too dramatic. “Vittoria, if the water seeps into the carpet it can grow mold,” he lectured (not that she cared) as he went to grab her a towel.
“I want my daddy!” she sobbed.
“Vittoria, I’m right here,” he said with a blank expression.
“Noo, hold me!” she whined, leaning her snotty face into his neck.
He had to refrain from cringing and pushing her off in fear that she’d spread her germs and get him sick. With a grimace, not that she could see it, he picked her up and wrapped her in the towel. Vittoria clung to him with fervor, her legs, and arms wrapped around him tightly as he carried her to get changed. She had always been clingy and he typically indulged her whims, but now was a time he preferred his space. She’s sick. If I spurn her while she’s ill she’ll never forget and never forgive. Begrudgingly, he let her invade his boundaries and comforted her while she whined and moaned. “This is the worst,” she cried raspily.
I agree. He got her changed, soothing her the entire time, before putting her back to bed. “Now I have a headache.”
I have a headache. Leonardo pulled the covers up to her chest, only for her to push them away. “Papaaaa! Will you cuddle with me until I fall asleep?” she asked, blinking sadly.
“Vittoria, I think it’s best if you just try to go to sleep on your own.”
I’ll definitely get sick. Her frown deepened before she let out a short, congested, and disappointed breath. He could feel some part of him ache from the sound alone, knowing that she was feeling unwell. “Th-that’s okay. I can do that,” she said, “I-I took care of myself when I lived with Mama.”
She sadly turned over, facing away from him. Leonardo couldn’t help but linger by her bedside. Of course, she made Vittoria take care of herself. My poor principessa. Bitterness and competitiveness battled within him. Well, as the better parent, I have to show Vittoria she’s loved. He cast a quick glare downwards, towards hell, you unsympathetic bitch. He sighed, “Oh sweetheart, you shouldn’t have had to.”
Leonardo removed his shoes and slipped under her duvet, using his arm to pull her close. Vittoria eagerly snuggled into his side, entirely pleased and smug with herself that her Papa took her bait. “Thank you, Papa,” she smiled.
“Anything for you, principessa,” he cooed, brushing her damp curls away from her forehead.
And it was true. He’d do anything to make her happy and it just so happened the easiest way to do that was to give her affection and attention. It took time, but Leonardo had noticed that presents weren’t necessary, although they certainly were not detrimental, to winning her love. It’s too easy to win her heart. Martha had given her nothing but smiles and company, and Vittoria had already latched on like a duckling.
As he looked down at his little angel, he felt a swell of love for her. Vittoria was leaning against him, her face buried in his side and her breathing even, but raspy. She’s depending on me. He had always been afraid to tell his father he was sick knowing it wouldn’t do any good and bring nothing but pain. But she knows she can come to me.
If he were being honest with himself, he had never expected to do all of the dirty work that came with being a parent, but it was truly perfect this way. Not without its challenges of course, but Leonardo never had to compete for her affection. She loves me more. When she had admitted that to him, he had felt his heart soar. I never have to share that love.
There was Martha of course, but at the end of the day, she was nothing compared to him. She has her uses but is overall insignificant. Leonardo was happy to have her babysit, particularly because Alberto didn’t want him to. He had sent over a list of nanny agencies and private girls' schools for Leonardo to select from, not that he would. Meddling old man.
Leonardo had been sure that a slight cold would kill Cardinale, but no such luck. He had survived a bout of pneumonia, a cold, a trip down the stairs, and just recently a car crash in the months since he was released from prison. At this point, he wasn’t sure if a hit would off the old goat. His darling daughter on the other hand acted as if this cold would be her end. Her dramatics are amusing twenty-five percent of the time.
“Thank you, Papa. For taking care of me,” she said hoarsely.
“Of course. It’s my pleasure.”
“I’ll take care of you when you’re old. I won’t put you in a home, Papa,” she said softly, lifting her head to look up at him, batting her eyes sweetly.
Leonardo smiled, “Thank you very much.”
I’ll be damned if I end up in a home. “I wish you wouldn’t get old. I don’t want you to die.”
Well, that escalated quickly. “Vittoria, I’m not going to die.”
“What if you do? What if you do and I’m still here?”
“If that happens, you’ll be all grown up. Don’t worry,” he said, trying to move on from the dark topic.
He wasn’t particularly keen to talk about his future death. “Mama died. I was still little,” she said.
Leonardo shushed her, “Don’t get yourself worked up. I promise you I won’t leave you.”
On purpose, went unsaid. Vittoria was silent for a moment, a thoughtful look crossing her face. “I’m glad I live with you,” she whispered, congestion lacing her voice, “I’m happy with you.”
His heart warmed. He truly was her everything and if he were honest with himself, despite everything, he was happier with only her as well. Mia principessa, just her and I against the world. “Oh I’m happy with you too,” he smiled and began to kiss her head and tickle her sides.
In hindsight, it wasn’t the best idea considering she laughed so hard she began to cough, one of those coughs ended up spraying his face. Christ. “Sorry,” she coughed.
“It’s fine,” he said, grimacing as she wiped her nose on her sleeve, “I think it’s time for a nap.”
Vittoria, even when she was tired, never admitted she’d want a nap. Leonardo chalked it up to some pride thing, well, as much pride that could come from a nine-year-old girl. Thankfully, there were times when she did want a nap and when he asked if she needed one, she just silently followed him. No nodding, no comment. Now was one of those times as she cozied up underneath her covers, “Will you still stay with me?”
Leonardo hummed, “Until you fall asleep.”
He reached over and grabbed the lavender mixture, spraying it into the air and ritually said, “Brutti sogni, brutti sogni, vai via.”
Her eyes closed and her face softened as he began to stroke her hair. For a moment, he began to think of what he wished he had his mother do when he was sick. He remembered the fantasy he used to have to get himself through the random bouts of childhood illness, before the cold reality crashed upon him like the frigid icy sea. “Penso che un sogno così non ritorni mai più,” he began to sing.
I wish she’d be this age forever. Forever my little girl. He watched her face grow peaceful as he continued to sing, his voice different but still angelic as it had been all those years ago.
“Mi dipingevo le mani e la faccia di blu
Poi d'improvviso venivo dal vento rapito
E incominciavo a volare nel cielo infinito...”
You are so loved. My perfect principessa. No one loves you as much as me.
“Volare oh, oh
Cantare oh, oh, oh”
Vittoria was everything he wanted her to be. Everything he expected his daughter to be. God truly had blessed him. In his mind, she was perfect because that was what he deserved. After everything. Admittedly, the circumstances were different than he had originally wanted them to be, but it was perfect for him. Their own little family, he and his daughter against the world.
“Nel blu dipinto di blu
Felice di stare lassù
E volavo, volavo felice più in alto del sole
Ed ancora più su…”
Your Papa will always be here for you. No one will come between us.
“Mentre il mondo pian piano spariva lontano laggiù
Una musica dolce suonava soltanto per me...”
No one.
“Volare, oh, oh
Cantare, oh, oh, oh,”
He didn’t know how many times he ended up repeating the song, but even when he finally finished, he stayed with her, watching her and listening to her breathing to make sure she was alright. Leonardo had no idea how long he was with her, but eventually, he managed to pull himself away. “Feel better principessa,” he cooed and then closed the door.
***
“Anthony Nespoli and Matteo Spadoni are good choices for the parole board. I talked to Alberto and he said-” Sawyer continued, not that Leonardo could focus.
Leonardo hadn’t slept for the past three days. Vittoria had made a swift recovery, but the minute her coughing ceased, his cough began. Unlike his daughter, he couldn’t put his life on pause and recover. There was no “day off” for him between his business and his full-time role as a father. He considered calling Martha to care for Vittoria for a few days because if he were honest with himself, he didn’t look or sound his best. Leonardo’s eyes were red-rimmed, his nose stuffed, and his ears plugged. I haven't been sick in over a decade. It felt like he was swallowing pins and needles as he waited for the contac to kick in. Nothing was going through his mind but the thought of how awful he felt.
Perhaps it was because he was older, or maybe it was because he had more responsibilities than he used to, but this cold felt worse than any he'd ever had before. Dammit. “So what do you think…” Sawyer asked before Leonardo held up his hand to cut him off.
With exhaustion lacing his body, he picked up the phone and dialed Martha. Pick up, pick up, pick up. When the line finally clicked, he didn’t bother with pleasantries. “I need a favor.”
“Hello to you too,” she said sourly.
“I need you here at the end of the hour to entertain Vittoria after her nap and until this evening.”
“I have plans tonight.”
Leonardo internally rolled his eyes, “And I’m sure as riveting as they are with a respectable crowd, you’re on the payroll. Earn it.”
“But-”
“Tony will let you in,” he said as the phone quickly met the receiver.
Leonardo turned towards Charles. “Come by tomorrow and we’ll talk about it,” he said off-handedly as he tried not to groan when he stood up on his aching muscles, “I’m going to bed.”
“It’s two o’clock!”
He ignored that comment and left, leaving Sawyer sitting with an exasperated expression. It hadn't been the best idea to lay with Vittoria while she was sick, but it had been a bonding moment that sealed trust between them, and that had been very well worth it.

Facsimiles to Preserve Originals: Factum Arte’s Technologies at the Service of Art
Tumblr media
Canova’s Paolina Borghese Facsimile
Usually, when we think of the word copy, we tend to associate it with plagiarism, forgery or even digitisation, which is also used to keep a trace of an object threatened by “corruption”. Most of the time, digitisation excludes various dimensions of the content, beginning with some of its features like depth, texture, actual size, sometimes colours, and so on.
Things change when it comes to the techniques used by the company Factum Arte. Created in 2001 by Adam Lowe, its aim is simple: to create perfect copies, facsimiles of sites, infrastructures, and other art pieces in order to preserve the originals and give tourists, art lovers, historians and researchers the opportunity to admire and study them. This is made possible by the use of multiple technologies in order to digitise these objects and produce replicas which are almost as stunning as the original pieces.
Tumblr media
Veronese’s Wedding At Cana Facsimile
The company’s workshops are based in Madrid (its birthplace), Milan and London. Inside their walls, you will meet various artists and technicians, working on facsimiles of paintings like Veronese’s Wedding At Cana (2006), or more recently Queen Maria Luisa On Horseback by Francisco De Goya (2018), and also statues such as the one of Paolina Burghese by Canova (2013). Not only do they digitise these objects, but they also receive special commissions from cultural institutions to duplicate, resize and change the surface of an object from an original. This is the case for two small 30 cm maquettes of Odysseus and Nausicaa made by the artist Nikos Ghika in 1948. Factum Arte has been commissioned to transform these two bronze figures into monumental ones, measuring 2,5 metres! The company can also create new objects for exhibitions or museums.

But that’s not all.
They also digitise, duplicate, and modify other types of heritage, if necessary. Places, monuments and sometimes even trees, are supported by Factum Arte. We can mention the tomb of Raphael, the cave of Risco Caido, or the Signing Oak Tree at the Windsor Great Park.
Tumblr media
Recording the Signing Oak Tree...
Needless to say, the company’s engineers have a talent for creating new scanning systems, which allow a better adaptability depending on what the technicians and artists are working on. They use more ‘‘traditional technologies’’ like photogrammetry (think about the bullet time scenes in The Matrix), homemade techniques to render the correct digitised colours (using panoramic photography and colour scales), but also more uncommon ones like the Lucida and the Veronica scanners. Lucida has the ability to scan artworks with a small amount of relief and to render their textures and surface specificities, all of this without touching them.
Tumblr media
Lucida Scanner
Veronica digitises objects by circling around them. The LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) scanner is used for the recording of buildings, large interior and exterior places. Combining these technologies and adapting is what makes these works possible. This then allows digital restoration, if required.
Tumblr media
Veronica Scanner
We all agree that nothing beats the original artwork. But such a copy also gives the opportunity to study and approach these objects differently. The facsimiles can also be placed in locations that sublimate the artworks. For example, The Wedding At Cana’s duplicate has been installed where Veronese first intended, in the refectory of the San Giorgio Monastery. Re-creating protected places and monuments, is a means, for historians to examine their subject of interest without running the risk of damaging the original – it is the same, say, for tourists and caves.
Tumblr media
The Tomb Of Raphael Facsimile
It’s also a way to struggle against the disappearance of historical heritage, due to time, conditions or terrorism.
All the data resulting from these processes is also an important subject. We can question ourselves as to whom is supposed to own, archive and protect them, and under what conditions and standards.
All images are from Factum Arte’s website, where you will find more information about their works and projects: https://www.factum-arte.com/en/inicio

The Worst Third Date Ever part 28
Chapter 28: Sancta Sedes
The next morning Max woke up first, she took a shower and posted some of her pictures on her social networks.
She smiled at some of them, they asked some people to take them photos, but she also took some of Spencer and he also took some of her.
The gorgeous views of the Roman Forum or the hill were breathtaking and the Coliseum made you wonder who that huge place could be built before the twenty and twenty-first century.
She decided to give her husband a present and booked an helicopter travel to Pompeii. And after that she closed the page so he could not find out.
She kept posting photos until he woke up, after a kiss she sent him to take a shower so they could eat their breakfast and took the bus to the Vatican City.
An hour later they were at the entrance of the Vatican City, the guide explained what they will do and the rules. They could not wear sleeveless shirts and shorts, no hats, no pets or weapons.
The tour started as they walked through the Gallery of the Maps and Gallery of Tapestries while their guide told tales of Vatican intrigue.
They gazed at artifacts such as timeworn yet fascinating Italian maps, and admire the sculptures and candelabras of the Gallery of Candelabras.
The guide let them stop for photos in front of the Pigna statue in the Pinecone Courtyard, designed by Donato Bramante.
Max was like a kid at Christmas morning watching and taking photos at everything in Raphael’s Rooms, which are a series of galleries that highlight the talent of the lauded Renaissance artist himself.
They continued to pass through the rooms, and then step inside the Sistine Chapel—the pope’s personal place of worship and a highlight of any Vatican trip.
All of them were in awe as the stood beneath Michelangelo’s 'The Creation of Adam,' which cloaks the ceiling, and admire 'The Last Judgement,' his colorful mural that adorns a wall.
"Oh my God... it looks like it was just painted this morning" said Max as she took some pictures of it "this photos are nothing compared to see it in real life"
"I'm totally agree with you" Spencer said looking at the paintings above "did you know that Michaelangelo painted himself in this? He painted himself as a person in hell because he was gay but very religious so he died believing he would go to hell due to this"
"Yeah I'm not surprise at all" she said holding his arm "the people back them were very religious"
The tour continued to St. Peter’s Basilica, the symbolic heart of the Catholic church.
"Ok guys come over here" said their guide "today is Wednesday and normally we can't got to the Basilica or the St. Peter's Square but, the Pope canceled the audiences for today so we can go in. This is an exceptional opportunity for you and you are lucky. Let go"
As they walked through it the learned about its history and see more Vatican art including Michelangelo’s 'La Pietà,' which was sculpted when the maestro was only 24 years old.
They gazed at the Baldacchino by Bernini, Max continued taking photos of everything they saw.
Three hours later they said goodbye to their guide in St. Peter’s Square. This tour was breathtaking and Max was almost in tears after witness the art of Raphael, Michelangelo and more amazing artist she learned in the university.
"This was amazing. I enjoyed every bit of this tour" said Max as she checked the photos again after they ordered some coffee and biscotti "and the photos don't express the feelings of watching it in situ"
"Yeah I never thought something about religion could move me so much. The Creation of Adam was something else" commented Spencer after drinking coffee "and La Pietà looked so smooth that you couldn't believe it was stone"
She nodded and ate some biscotti with her coffee "I loved this so much" she sighed looking at him "what else can we do today after this breathtaking morning?"
He got out of his messenger bag a brochure and looked in "well we could go to The Borghese Gallery, they have a littler collection than the Vatican but they also have paintings I'm sure you will love" he smiled at her.
"Sounds like a date" she smirks and leans in to kissed him.
"It surely is a date" he laughed "then we can eat some typical Italian food in a typical house"
"I would like it" she finished her coffee and biscotti.
Then they went to the Galler by taxi. The place was in park and close from there was the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea and the National Etruscan Museum.
They spent the rest of the day checking the museums. Max talked nonstop about the art in there. Spencer, of course, gave some facts but that was Max's day.
Both had a great day and when they arrived to the museum they ate at their room because they decided to just cuddle in bed and have some alone time.
"I think tomorrow we should stay here in the hotel and then we could keep checking the city on Friday" she was laying her head on his chest and when he said so he looked down at her.
"I'm agree, beside I have something planned for us this Friday"
"What is it?" He was curious about it.
"You will see it on Friday Dr. Reid" she teased him.
"Oh really Mrs. Reid?" She nodded and lifted her head up to kissed his chin.
"Yes and I'm sure you will love it" she played back again on his chest.
"Well I can't wait to see it" he kissed her head "but I'm sure it will he great".
OOooOOooOO
I am happy this chapter was easier to write than the last one. I definitely need to keep my mind working on this story.
Some things Max and Spencer commented in the Vatican were based on my mom's experience there. I made my research about names and what was in there.
Also I would like to let you know that this story will have a few more chapters and then I will end it.
I already have the perfect ending for this story.
The next chapter will be their day in the hotel and I think I will include Pompeii visit.
Hope you liked it. And I appreciate that you took time of your day reading this and also if you comment... I love you 3000. Read you later.

Rome wasn’t built in a day...and CHILE PLEASE neither were these bunyons!
I was up and at em this am! I had a Nutella croissant and a cappuccino! We hopped on the train to Vatican City! It is a city, country & state that lays in the center of the city of Rome! Once we met up with our no nonsense yet fun tour director Sonia, we went inside to view the beautiful paintings, sculptures & Catholic traditions. The most interesting were the breathtaking artwork inside the Sistine Chapel (my favorite is when God points to man(Adam) and the largest church in the world, St. Peter’s Basilica church. The crowd was enormously huge which made it difficult to truly enjoy the significance of it all. After leaving Vatican City, the students partnered up and completed a timed Italian food culture quiz amongst the locals...then we went to lunch (pasta, caprese, & dessert). After lunch we walked to the Vila Borghese park to take a break. While there some students found out we could rent bikes, segways and more and this truly CRANKED our fun level up to O YES! Let’s get it! We created nicknames, friended the food truck vendor dude Sunny and we were good money! We zoomed all over the park in true relaxed Roman fashion style while enjoying the exquisite panoramic scenery and most importantly each other! On our walk from the park we stopped the famous Spanish steps where many locals stop to marvel at the wide and long staircase and also to take cute pics! LOL! Our next stop was Recafe for dinner (salad, pizza, and cake). After dinner we hopped back on the train to the Termini stop, walked to one block away from our hotel to a geleteria called Gello where they served THEE most flavorful gelato I have tasted in my lifetime! I had mango and pineapple (anasas) the first round but because it was SO delicious I went back for another cup of the exact same!😉. Again, Rome wasn’t built in a day but the way our walks were set up all over town you would have thought for a split second that we were still going to see THE WHOLE DANG ON CITY during a full day shift of a part time gig! LOL! 😎 #RushLUVSRoma
