My first real trek: Triund trek
PS: This was written on 6th June 2023. I came to Dharamshala yesterday, then came to Bhagsu at our resort. Our check-in time was 12. We reached it at 5:30. So, because of the non-availability of rooms, we were sitting in reception and then decided to do a mini Trek to a beautiful waterfall after being tired from a 10-hour bus journey. That trek was quick and beautiful. It was a very peaceful…

Triund Top: Where the Sky Touches the Earth
Tumblr media
Exploring New Wilderness
Nestled in the lap of the Dhauladhar range in Himachal Pradesh, Triund Top is a gem for trekkers and nature enthusiasts. This tranquil destination, offering panoramic views of the majestic mountains and lush green valleys, is a testament to the unparalleled beauty of the Indian Himalayas. Whether you're a seasoned trekker or a novice explorer, Mcleodganj Trek promises an experience that feels as if the sky touches the earth.
What Are the Various Stages of The Triund Trekking Venture?
Getting to Triund
The Journey Begins in McLeod Ganj your adventure to Triund Top starts in the quaint town of McLeod Ganj, known for its vibrant Tibetan culture and spiritual ambiance. Situated about 9 kilometers from Dharamshala, McLeod Ganj is easily accessible by bus or taxi from the nearest railway station at Pathankot or the airport at Gaggal. This charming town, often referred to as "Little Lhasa," serves as the perfect gateway to the trek, offering an array of cafes, monasteries, and local markets to explore before you set off.
The Trekking Route
The trek to Triund is approximately 9 kilometers long, with the Triund Trek height being around 1,100 meters, making it moderately challenging. The well-marked trail begins from the vibrant streets of McLeod Ganj, leading through the scenic forests of oak, rhododendron, and deodar. As you ascend, the bustling town gradually fades into the serene embrace of nature, with the sounds of chirping birds and rustling leaves accompanying you.
The Ascent to Triund
Initial Leg: Gallu Devi Temple
The first significant landmark on the trail is the Gallu Devi Temple, about 2 kilometers from McLeod Ganj. This is where the trek officially begins for many, as it serves as a checkpoint and offers a small café for refreshments. From here, the trail becomes steeper, winding through dense forests and rocky paths.
Midway Rest: Magic View Café
Approximately halfway through the trek, you’ll encounter the famous Magic View Café, a small hut offering snacks and beverages. Established in 1984, it is one of the oldest chai shops on the route and a popular resting spot for trekkers. The café provides a chance to catch your breath and soak in the mesmerising views of the valley below.
Reaching Triund Top: The Final Stretch
The last leg of the trek can be challenging, with a steep climb and rocky terrain, but the reward is worth every step. As you approach Triund Top, the dense forest gives way to expansive meadows, and the mighty Dhauladhar range reveals itself in all its glory. You might choose to go for Triund camping after reaching the top. The sense of accomplishment and the breathtaking views make the strenuous climb fade into oblivion.
Sunrise at Triund: The Golden Hour
One of the most magical moments of Mcleodganj trekking is witnessing the sunrise. Waking up early and braving the cold to see the first rays of the sun hitting the snow-clad peaks is a sight that stays with you forever. The mountains glow in hues of orange and pink, and the entire landscape is bathed in a warm, golden light. It’s a serene and almost spiritual experience, reminding you of nature's grandeur and the simplicity of life.
What Are Some Practical Tips for the Triund Trek?
Best Time to Visit
The best time to trek to Triund is during the months of March to June and September to December. During these periods, the weather is pleasant, and the skies are usually clear, offering the best views. Monsoon months (July and August) are generally avoided due to slippery trails and the risk of landslides.
Essential Gear
While the trek to Triund is considered moderate, it's essential to be well-prepared. Wear sturdy trekking shoes, carry sufficient water, snacks, a first-aid kit, and warm clothing, as temperatures can drop significantly at night. A good quality backpack, a raincoat (in case of unexpected showers), and a torch are also recommended.
Are You Well Prepared for the Triund Trek?
Triund Top is more than just a trekking destination; it's a sanctuary where nature's beauty and tranquillity embrace you. The journey, the views, and the experience of camping under the stars make it a memorable adventure. As you descend back to McLeod Ganj, you carry with you not just memories but a renewed sense of wonder and appreciation for the natural world. Triund Top truly is a place where the sky seems to touch the earth, leaving an indelible mark on every traveler's heart.

The Land of Gods – Dev bhoomi
Uttarakhand is the 27th state of the Republic of India. It was carved out of Uttar Pradesh on 9th November 2000. Uttarakhand is also called Dev Bhoomi as it has many important shrines. Located at the foothills of the Himalayas, this State in India has international boundaries with China (Tibet) in the north and Nepal in the east. The state is divided into 2 administrative zones: Kumaon and Garhwal which share a total of 13 districts under them. 6 districts in Kumaon and 7 districts in Garhwal. The districts of Kumaon region are Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat, Nainital, Pithoragarh and Udham Singh Nagar. The districts of Garhwal region are Chamoli, Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Tehri and Uttarkashi.
I hv been visiting Uttarakhand since childhood. It was Uttar Pradesh then and have visited it even when it became Uttarakhand. Every summer, my banker father would book us a vacation and we girls would bundle up and head towards the North of India. It would be either Delhi, Madhya Pradesh or any city in Uttarakhand.. Delhi is directly connected to many  places in Uttarakhand. After a short visit to Delhi, we would head towards Dehra Dun and other connected places.  I have visited Dehra Dun, Mussoorie, Rishikesh an infinite number of times and have very beautiful Memories of these places etched in the sands of time.  Even after so many trips to Uttarakhand, we never visited any place in the Kumaon region. That’s because of our fascination to Garhwal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The beautiful Badrinath temple, Joshimath - the winter abode of Lord Badrinarayan, Kedarnath temple,Nanda Devi peak,Rudraprayag, Devprayag, Vishnu Prayag, Neelkanth peak are all located in the Chamoli district of The Garhwal region. Badrinath temple is a major pilgrimage site. It’s one of the Char dham yatra sites -  the four abodes as defined by Adi Shankaracharya. It is believed that every Hindu must do this four abodes trip to attain Moksh(salvation). The other three are Dwaraka, Puri and Rameshwaram. The smaller circuit of the char dham is here in Uttarakhand  -  Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Gangotri temples. Badrinath is located on the banks of Alaknanda river and at a height of 3133 m above sea level. Joshimath is the gateway to this pilgrim centre and also to several Himalayan climbing expeditions.
Garhwal Himalayan terrain is a very hilly one. Landslides, cloud bursts, heavy rains, flash floods are a part of the package that you could book. These natural phenomenon often disrupt one’s journey. We should, therefore, be prepared with emergencies while travelling to Garhwal. While for the traveller it’s just a disrupted journey,  life comes to a standstill for the natives with communications and transport stopped until it all recedes. Our visit to the Badrinath temple was one such a trip where we experienced the wrath of the Weather. The bus journey that we had undertaken from Rishikesh to Badrinath had to be halted as the road ahead had been damaged  due to landslide. We were at Joshimath then and took shelter at a Dharamshala. journey would resume once the rains stopped and the road restored. Fortunately we were able to move on with the journey the next day and take the Badrinath Darshan. The majestic Neelkanth peak was another mesmerising massif which we were able to experience and we felt very fortunate to be In its presence
Tumblr media
Every city or district name in Uttarakhand Is a sort of hyperlink to  Inexhaustible geographical detail and natural beauty. Landslides are surely a part of this place but an Uttarakhand tour is nothing if something exciting doesn’t happen. Every nook, every corner, every turn, every stretch, every valley, the huge mountains, the ashrams and the shrines will make moments of your life an everlasting one.

How to go from Delhi to Himachal?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Traveling from Delhi to Himachal Pradesh can be done by various means, including road, train, and air. The choice of transportation depends on your preferences and the specific destination within Himachal Pradesh you plan to visit. Here are the most common options:
By Road (Bus/Car):Bus: You can take a bus from Delhi to various cities and towns in Himachal Pradesh. Several state-run and private bus operators offer services. The journey duration depends on your destination within Himachal Pradesh, but it generally takes around 8 to 12 hours to reach Shimla, for example. You can book tickets online or at the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Delhi.
Car: If you prefer more flexibility and have your vehicle or want to rent one, you can drive from Delhi to Himachal Pradesh. The distance and driving time will vary depending on your destination. The road network is generally good, but some areas may have steep and winding roads, so be prepared for varying road conditions.
By Train:There are no direct trains from Delhi to major cities in Himachal Pradesh. However, you can take a train to a nearby railway station like Chandigarh or Kalka, and then continue your journey to Himachal Pradesh by road. The Kalka-Shimla Railway is a UNESCO World Heritage site and offers a scenic route to Shimla.
By Air:The nearest airport to many popular destinations in Himachal Pradesh is the Chandigarh International Airport (IXC). You can take a flight from Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in Delhi to Chandigarh, and then proceed to your destination in Himachal Pradesh by road. Alternatively, there are also airports in places like Dharamshala (Gaggal Airport) and Kullu-Manali (Bhuntar Airport), but flight options may be limited compared to Chandigarh.
By Train and Toy Train (for Shimla):If you're visiting Shimla, you can take a train from Delhi to Kalka and then transfer to the famous Kalka-Shimla Toy Train, which offers a unique and picturesque journey to Shimla.
Before your trip, make sure to check the availability of transportation options, book tickets in advance when necessary, and consider the weather conditions, especially if you plan to travel during the winter months when some areas in Himachal Pradesh may experience heavy snowfall.
How much is taxi from Delhi to Shimla?
The cost of a taxi from Delhi to Shimla can vary depending on several factors, including the type of taxi, the route taken, the time of day, and any additional services or stops you require. However, as of my last knowledge update in September 2021, I can provide you with a rough estimate.
One-way Taxi: The cost of a one-way taxi from Delhi to Shimla can range from approximately INR 3,500 to INR 6,000 or more for a standard sedan or hatchback, depending on the taxi service provider and the vehicle's condition. The price may increase for larger vehicles like SUVs or if you opt for a luxury car.
Round-trip Taxi: If you plan to hire a taxi for a round trip (Delhi to Shimla and back to Delhi), the cost may be higher than a one-way trip and can range from INR 7,000 to INR 12,000 or more for a standard sedan.
Keep in mind that these are approximate estimates, and the actual prices may vary. Prices can also change over time due to factors like inflation and changes in fuel prices. It's advisable to contact local taxi service providers or use online taxi booking platforms to get current rates and make reservations in advance for a more accurate and up-to-date pricing.
Additionally, if you hire a taxi, you may need to consider toll charges, parking fees, and any additional charges for stops or detours along the way. Be sure to discuss all these details with the taxi service provider before finalizing your booking.
