Love was an emotion that Ryia hadn't experienced. She thought that she had from her friends at school, but from what she gathered on the internet and other people, it wasn't. She hadn't felt that sense of warmth through her body when she thought of her friends and she sure didn't from her parents. Her relationship with them was something she would never pray upon her biggest enemy.
When you think of parents, you think of the people who love you, who would protect you in the most dire of situations, sometimes even lay their life down for you but not for Ryia. At the tender age of four, her drug-addict of a mom had burnt her tiny body with scalding hot water almost every three days. It was a hiding game for Ryia. She would be in hiding until she got hungry then proceed to the kitchen to get something to eat, only to not make it out in time where her, already high, mother would find her and beat her. Her father was an absent father. He left the family when Ryia was 2. Now him and his new family are living the high life. Almost every month, they were travelling. Ryia always wondered if that's the reason why her mom abused her. Maybe her mother wanted to travel the world and live the lavish life. But she also couldn't understand why she was being abused. The urge to know the reason of her miserable lifestyle was greater than anything. Sometimes she thought that she was the reason that her mother's dream was hindered. Ryia learnt to look after herself from then on. She went to school with such eagerness, knowing that one day she'd graduate and leave home.
And she did.
Come gradution day and she had graduated and was off to uni on a scholarship. Heaven knows she worked her ass off to become the doctor she was. Even through this, she still helped her mother when she was diagnosed with lung cancer until she passed. Ryia didn't feel anything for the woman, heck she didn't even prepare a funeral. She simply sent her aunt an email regarding her mother's passing and left them to do the rest.
From then on, Ryia mingled around with people who treated like she was the scum of the earth and even had one of her exes call her racial slurs when the relationship ended.
However Ryia was numb to all her bad luck. She never smiled and rarely laughed. Sometimes, looking at her reflection after taking a warm shower, it looked like she was looking through herself, an empty shell with the remnants of it's contents a ghostly appearance. Even with all the money she had, she wasn't happy.
════ ⋆ ⋆ ════
Her life was like this until 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 day. The day she met 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺.
It was a chilly night, Ryia reading a book in the quiet of her bedroom. She had been reading Romeo and Juliet. The story not really interesting her. She was just trying to get a feel of their love; trying to gauge what it's like to be in love. She wasn't dumb. She knew lovers never fell this fast in love; she simply was trying to understand 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲.
She was so focused in reading her book. So intrigued at the way Shakespeare interpreted love. But nothing could have taken all of her focus to the point that she didn't hear the rumble of an engine outside her house. An engine? Why would there be an engine outside at this time? It was very late into the night, the moonlight stretching itself across her room creating a soft halo around her. She was incredibly startled. Confused and wary, she walked up to window to inspect her backyard. Her chocolate brown eyes scoped the area to find nothing.
Nothing in sight. As she turned to leave, she spotted something. The smallest thing ever, she wasn't even sure she would have seen it, but she did. Under the shadows of the tall trees that surrounded her backyard, she spotted wavy air.
Wavy air. Like the skeptic she is, she blinked, several times but the image never left her sight. She was scared. What could have been going on in her backyard at this time. But with the smallest, ant size of bravery, she decided to go check it out. She hoped that with her knowledge of black people dying first in movies, this wouldn't be that scenario. Walking downstairs was hilarious to her. She didn't crack a smile, no, but she did think that whatever she was doing in that moment was the exact thing the killed the dumbest people in movie.
'But this is real life', she thought. Just to protect herself though, she turned on the living room and kitchen lights. You never know what's lurking in the dark. Ryia walked into the kitchen and opened the cabinet above her stove. She got out a flashlight, the thickest skillet she could find, you know just in case and a large pocket knife. You never know where danger lurks.
After acquiring her items, Ryia cautiously walked out the back door to her backyard. The soft rumbling of the engine had stopped so she turned on the flashlight and walked in the direction that she saw the mysterious 'wavy air'. As she walked closer, flashlight helping with her vision, she noticed the waviness got taller and wider. The more she looked, the more she noticed that something was concealed there but she didn't want to admit it to herself. 'It couldn't be invisible, could it?', her thoughts questioning what she saw. All around her she could her a soft trilling sound. The rapid clicks reminding her of a woodpecker. As she reached out in front of her to feel the mystery object, she felt herself being pushed to the ground at breakneck speed; all her safety objects being thrown out of her hands. Everything was muddled for a second. It took a minute to recover and when she held herself up on her elbows, she looked around frantically. Wondering what the hell was going on, she grabbed the closet thing to her which was her flashlight and searched her backyard.
Ryia got up slowly, sitting on her legs before quickly crawling towards her things so she could return home. Whatever the hell was going on she was leaving it to God and running for her life. After getting back up, she turned towards her house ready to run, only to see the same waviness in front of her. Looking to her left she saw the same one still concealed under the trees. What could possibly be in front of her?
She heard the clicking again only this time it felt like it was two steps in front of her. Her head turned towards the sound slowly and what she saw made her drop her items once again. What was once air, was now something that could only exist in horror movies. In front of her, she saw a massive eight-foot tall humanoid creature. It had a huge crest at the top of it's forehead, two golden deepset eyes, no nose but four crab-like fingers on it's mandible. This creature was fucking huge. It's skin was a chestnut brown with black spotting. It looked like all it ever did was workout it's whole life with it's jacked body. It's taut muscles a canvas with the moonlight enhancing the dips of the muscles on it's torso. It wore silver armor, the most pristine she had ever seen. Nothing seemed off about this alien and she was so close to passing the fuck out.
What she didn't expect was to see four more appear behind the brown one. Each with their own bulky bodies made to perfection. At this point, she knew she was a goner. Each creature was around the same height. At the sight of them, she took a step back. At that moment her life literally flashed before her eyes. It wasn't like her life was special anyway. She knew what she was about to do was stupid but she did it anyway. Or attempted to. She turned on her heels and got two steps away before she was grabbed by her arm and thrown towards the other four. Her body slammed into the floor but it wasn't enough to injure her terribly. Her black curls were a mess around her face and her vision was blurry. She saw the tanned creature walk towards her and that was the last thing she saw.
════ ⋆ ⋆ ════
Ra'kar was the leader of his ship. His ship consisted of himself and four other yautja, all of which are his family. He was nine-hundred and sixty five. Culturally, he was an Elder.
His members were made up of his blood brother, Va'tha and three cousins, T'edqah, Vikap and An'tui. They were currently on a hunt. A forest was their destination but their engine became faulty so they had an emergency stop. Where they wanted to land had looked to be some sort of land near a lake but it happened to belong to a human. They hadn't known that the land was occupied so imagine their surprise when the tiny human emerged from her home in scared curiousity.
Her black locks framed her face and fell down her back in soft curls while she used the light-emitting device to help with her vision. She wasn't small by human standards looking to be atleast 5'11. She was curvy but fit and soft looking. One thing was odd though. Her skin was covered in darker patches and scars howerer that didn't take away from her beauty. Her black skin glowed in the soft glow of the moonlight. She cautiously approached the ship but Vikap being the rebel he is, knocked her to ground. She was frantic for sure, his bio-mask showing her vitals escalating. The five of them jumped down from the trees with such gracefulness, walking towards the fallen human.
Ra'kar was ahead of them, only a few steps away from her and grabbed her before she could escape throwing her towards the others. He didn't mean to throw her hard judging by the way she passed out by their feet. They were all confused at how fragile she was.
An'tui was the youngest and was quiet; very rarely socialising with others. "I think you went a little overboard brother", the burgundy-coloured yautja said.
"What should we do with her?" Va'tha spoke up. The dark green yautja was seven-hundred and forty. Being the brother of an Elder had it's perks as he was a seasoned hunter with many trophies adorning his chamber. He had many strong pups and many more to come with all the females constantly flirting with him. It was uncommon however for pups to be so close like he was with Ra'kar. And he also had a secret; one that could get him outcast. It was wrong and considered unworthy for a yautja to mate or be in a relationship with a human. His hidden desire for humans was buried deep within him years ago but the mere sight of this human had his emotions swirling once again. But he could and would be able to handle his emotions.
"We could just leave her here and continue our journey." Vikap snarled out, glaring at the passed out human.
T'edqah, being the medic that he is, gently picked her up, " Let us take her back to the ship. I must examine her for any injuries as i'm assuming that your intentions were not to hurt her?" With a sigh, Ra'kar agreed and soon after they were on their way.

background story ;
casey was the first born son of corey rutherford and amalie peterson in brisbane, an accident if you must, as his parents never intended to have him. his mother lived in sweden but was in australia visiting some relatives when she met corey, one thing lead to another, and nine months later, casey came along
his mother was infatuated with his father, while his father liked his mother, but not in the way that she liked him. regardless, his family forced him to marry amalie to give casey a ‘stable’ life, but it was anything but that
growing up, casey really loved his mother. the same thing couldn’t be said for his father. from a fairly young age, he got the feeling that his father considered him the reason that he was ‘forced’ to stay with his mother, treated him like garbage, making casey strongly dislike him from early on
he was emotionally abusive, to him and to his mother. casey didn’t know why she stayed with him. things were cool when it was just him and his mother, but as soon as his father came along, the vibe shifted
things only worsened when amalie became pregnant again, with casey’s little brother, lukas, who was five years younger than casey. from that moment on, casey was determined to defend his little brother from whatever emotional abuse his father could even think to throw at him
but when lukas grew a little older, they knew that he was different. he didn’t like to talk much and whenever he did, it was avoiding eye contact. he didn’t like to be touched often, he had melt downs, and well, after several tests and doctor visits later, lukas was diagnosed with autism
from that moment on, things drastically changed. his father didn’t know how to handle the news and ended up leaving. his mother didn’t have much in australia without him, so she moved back to stockholm with casey and lukas when casey was ten and lukas was five, where thankfully, lukas got the treatment he deserved
casey thought this move was for the better, but things only seemed to worsen from that moment on. his mother was severely depressed over what his father did and on some days, refused to even get out of bed
casey was forced to become an adult when he was just a kid himself. clean up the house, look after his little brother and mother, it was really hard for him, and as much as he loved his mother, she only added onto the baggage he felt forced to carry
as soon as he was old enough, he had a job. between going to school, working, and practically being the parent in the house, he always lacked sleep, he was always tired, but he swears, he worked really hard than anyone his age, it’s not like he had a choice
it was a lot to deal with, and soon enough, he was finding ways to try and stay up. coffee only worked for so long, even strong shots of espresso became nothing to him. through this desire to try and stay awake during long shifts and school, well, this… this is how he discovered the ‘wonders’ of adderall, through one of his classmates who would sell his prescription to make an extra buck. casey soon realized that it worked perfectly for his dilemma, it kept him going for ages
so this is how he became a frequent customer. it was an unhealthy habit of red bull, adderall, under eating, not sleeping, repeat – he was practically a zombie at one point. this went on for a while. a little over a year of this unhealthy cycle is when it caught up to him, in the worst possible way
! tws for hospitals, eating disorder and stroke ! to be clear, he can’t recall a lot of what happened beforehand. the headache, the dimness in his vision, soon followed by him passing out, are all very faint memories in his head. the thing casey remembers most is waking up in a hospital, and being informed that he had a stroke… a stroke. he was also told he had malnutrition and was underweight which was most likely linked to an eating disorder and his abuse of adderall, but he didn’t hear anything else, all he heard was stroke. frankly, he didn’t even think someone his age could have a stroke, it was all really scary news for him. this happened two months before his graduation, and thankfully, he had all the credits needed before this, but he still had to finish school virtually
the aftermath of it all is what sucked the most for him. the therapies, medications and countless check ups even though he swears, he felt fine, the way his family was treating him like he was made of paper or something, even his grandmother, aka his mother’s mother, got involved, which was a huge mess because all she did was blame his mother for dumping all of their problems on casey and causing all this. long story short, but his grandmother didn’t think his mother was mentally well enough to take care of casey and lukas, which wasn’t exactly a lie. after casey’s graduation, they moved with her to her house in new york, which his mother didn’t even fight her on, claiming she had to work on herself
and as much as he didn’t want to admit it because a part of him really missed his mother and he didn’t blame her for what happened, but, casey really liked new york, as much as he wanted to hate it. he felt a lot calmer there, he wasn’t constantly stressed over taking care of his little brother, or his mother, and still finding a way to make ends meet, he was done with high school, eighteen, had everything in his favor, took a gap year but didn’t travel the way other people do, really just focused on his therapies and bettering himself, focused on writing and playing the piano and sundae sundays with his grandmother and little brother, practically became a whole different person ( crazy how not being completely stressed 24/7 can drastically change someone )
he ended up going back to school when he was nineteen, to nyu to be exact, majors in literature because he wants to be a writer, even if it won’t make him much money in the long run
he really had no intention of ever going into the spotlight. even with his first published book heart shaped box ( literally his pride and joy, a horror novel he’s been working on for over three years ), he only made a decent following on social media when his book hit new york’s best seller list, with most of his followers being book nerds which, he was okay with. he just wanted to write and hopefully one day, publish another book. he didn’t care if he made it to the best seller’s list again or not, he just wanted to do something he was passionate about and stay under the radar
anyways, long story short but that under the radar shit doesn’t end up happening when he meets abel in nyu, when he’s twenty one. they date for a little under a year before he says he has to leave and then just… stops answering casey’s texts and calls altogether, whatever, fuck him, is all casey can think. but then people somehow find out they dated and he starts getting all this attention because they used to date and really, he didn’t even know abel had that influencer status, so the attention just annoys him. he feels like he’s worked so hard to even get his first book published and instead of being only recognized for that, he gets recognized for dating a boy, literally… wants to stab himself with a fork
the past two and a half years have just been him working on another novel, and a comic book, illustrated by his little brother, that he has hopes of finishing and hopefully releasing one or the other by next year. now the question is, will people soon enough recognize him for his talent in literature, or will he forever be known as ‘that guys ex boyfriend’?
headcanons ;
he’s a vegan! became one about five months after he had a stroke and has never looked back. his health has gotten a lot better since then, been a vegan for over five years already
casey really doesn’t like entitled people who have just had stuff handed to them and never had to work for anything, so basically... most nepo babies let’s be real. he’s had to work really hard for everything, even getting his book published was hard as hell, and then lots of people recognize him for a guy he dated forever ago rather than his hard work which really, really makes him angry
he isn’t a mean guy, he’s really patient and kind and understanding and will never be rude unless provoked, but if you get him to a certain level of angry, he can literally be the worst person ever. very nice and sweet and people tend to think they can walk all over him because of that, but if you really do something to upset him, he’s like a different person. black and white in that sense if you must because he can go from one extreme to the other, especially if you’re a mean or manipulative person, he see’s right through that shit
he writes about anything, romance, science fiction, fantasy, but his favorite genre is fantasy and horror based. his career claim is similar to joe hill, and his upcoming comic book will basically be the first comic of the ‘locke & key’ series, basically joe hill but modern day
he doesn’t tell people he had a stroke. mostly because he doesn’t want sympathy, but also because he wants to make a new life here. no one really knows about his life in sweden. no one really knows about his life before he was eighteen and he likes it that way
doesn’t do anything besides occasionally smoke weed ( boring boy i guess ), mostly out of health but also because he has alcohol intolerance. alcohol, even in small amounts, makes him really sick so he prefers to just avoid it, obviously would never go to serious drugs because that incident he went through scarred him
he see’s his little brother frequently, he’s literally the illustrator of the comics he plans on publishing soon enough. he has a really big soft spot for little kids, especially if they have special needs. he would probably be an amazing dad if he ever decides to go that route
he loves music, especially old school music. the idea for heart shaped box literally came to him when he was listening to heart shaped box by nirvana. he has a very old soul, literally owns a type writer and a vinyl player
he has a female dog named opal, named after his favorite australian stone, opal. the dog is a goldendoodle, he loves this dog with his entire heart, she is two
the rumor in his app is true. he once was undergoing a mental breakdown so bad, he impulsively shaved his head and eyebrows, it was a true monstrosity. this happened like four months after his break up with abel, so he was around twenty two. thankfully, hair grows back because otherwise... no comment
wanted connections ;
heart shaped box lover: a book lover or horror fanatic who liked his novel and just wants to be his friend, wholesome connection
it’s meant to be, look, we’re both vegans!: simply put, a fellow vegan. watch them go to vegan restaurants together and let each other know about the hottest vegan spots
not your biggest fan: someone who doesn’t like him. could be because they think he’s boring, because they think his book sucked or because they just don’t like him, i’m open to it all
dog sitters: someone who walks their dog at the exact same time as he does, and they’ve just bonded over their pets, bonus if their dogs really like each other
devil on my shoulder: a bad influence, or at least, tries to be because he isn’t easily convinced. a muse who just wants him to let loose
former college friends: someone he went to college with, they could be friends or not
...perhaps something more?: maybe friends with benefits, one night stands, something romantic?
or we can brainstorm!

born in covington, georgia to two high school sweethearts, ryan has always lived a relatively simple life alongside his brother. sundays were reserved for church, with family dinners following around the table. everything was peachy, or as peachy as it could be.
that was until ryan's mom got sick. she was diagnosed with invasive lobular carcinoma, a type of breast cancer that could be treated if spotted early enough. the parrishes were hopeful. jacob (ryan's father) drove his wife to treatment nearly every day. he was by her side and took care of the boys on the days she couldn't. things seemed to be looking up. however, ryan's mom unfortunately lost her battle with cancer.
doctors did everything they could to salvage her life but there was no hope of reviving her. ryan, and his family had to tell her goodbye. they buried her with a heartfelt ceremony just shy of ryan's 17th birthday.
in the years following, ryan struggled to cope with her loss. he was always very close to his mom and in her absence the whole family mourned her differently. ryan spun out. he drank and smoked a lot to cope and in his moments of grief, got arrested a few times. this greatly disappointed his father and only made the two grow more and more estranged.
when enough became enough, ryan was given an ultimatum - either get his shit together or get out. he chose option B. he left home not bearing to look back and spiraled even more.
it was only when he reached rock bottom that he realized he wasn't making his mom proud. in a last ditch effort to turn things around, he enlisted into the marines in san diego. as a third generation veteran, he thought going into the corps might mend the bridges of his family that he broke.
it sort of worked. during his time away, ryan discovered himself. he worked on becoming the man he always knew his mom wanted him to be.
then while in battle, an accident led to ryan's leg being demolished. he was severely wounded and transported home to recover. afterwards, he was given a purple heart for his service and had to undergo almost a year's worth of physical therapy, followed by a prosthetic to make him appear "normal".
nowadays, he's back in his hometown and trying to rebuild his life while researching for a new purpose. all the while, he's trying to mend things with his family.
headcanons .
after being wounded in combat, he underwent surgery to have his left leg amputated from the knee down. he now wears a prosthetic to appear "normal". but, he's incredibly insecure about it. therefore, he never wears shorts out in public or outside of his own home. and he definitely doesn't like people touching him near that leg.
he has "pelle sub agnina latitat mens saepe lupina" tattooed on his ribcage. it means "beneath the lamb's skin, often lurks a wolf's mind."
while he's not always consistent with it, he does keep a journal to write down his thoughts. it was a healing technique he learned in therapy and he enjoys when he can find the time to do it.
he was a lot softer as a kid and is often called on or known around town as the "handy neighbor". if you need help fixing a broken sink, changing a flat tire, or doing little projects around the house... he's your guy.
although he's saved up a lot of money from his time in the military and inherited quite a bit from his mother's life insurance, ryan is a man of modest means. that's why he lives in a small trailer by the lake. he loves the peacefulness of the outdoors and doesn't really value material things. but he will spoil the people he loves.
he owns a boxing gym called "ajax" named after the greek god, ajax, who was known for being fearless, strong, powerful and who had a high level of combat intelligence.
as much as ryan harbors tireless influxes of self-loathing, he also holds a dear desire to live his life for the people he cares about. and he cares for a lot of people. there’s nothing he wouldn’t do for the ones he cares about, even if he grumbles through it once or twice. ryan's a man who understands the colossal weight of loss, and therefore, he tries much harder than others to hold on to love as loudly as possible, even with all his imperfections.
character inspirations. oliver queen (arrow), david axelrod (endless love), billy russo (the punisher), noah calhoun (the notebook)

Then, he met Estella Smith, a well known fashion designer and animal activist who was visiting her home town on tour and happened to see Ivan sitting alone. The next day she came back and adopted him saying he has inspired her with his rare and unique beauty. By then he was in that orphanage from 6 to 9 years of age.
She then took him back to her home in America and helped taught him English with her childhood best friends and later on Ivan's uncle figures' help, fed him, bathe him, and treated him well. Though he still suffered with the trauma of being abandoned and abused at such a young age he needed to see a psychiatrist from the age of 10 which Estella paid for and he was diagnosed with anxiety and PTSD which made him feel terrible and began to draw out his feelings. Estella found a piece of art and after getting permission to borrow it she made Ivan a special suit based and inspired by his art.
After that he began to learn the world of fashion and art with Estella's help and began to help work in her shop and even began to learn how to make clothes and costumes himself. During this time he met Jac and the two have never once separated from each other's sides though their guardians can feel the chaos oozing from their hangouts or when they lock eyes across the room. Currently he's in school studying to help Estella's fashion business more and work part-time at a cafe near campus

The Importance of Tree Maintenance
Trees provide beauty, shade, tranquility and enhance property value. They also reduce storm damage and help clean air, but only if they are well cared for. Trees can also be costly if they fall or break, and homeowners need to take a proactive approach to their maintenance to keep trees healthy and avoid costly problems like limb damage or house termites. Regular maintenance for trees and shrubs includes pruning, a vital part of plant health care. Pruning keeps trees aesthetically pleasing, slows their growth rate and helps prevent unsightly overgrowth. It also identifies and removes dead, diseased, or insect-infested wood, and reduces the overall weight of the canopy to prevent the limbs from hanging over sidewalks or streets. It also can be performed for specific purposes, such as crown cleaning or thinning. When done properly, this can increase the lifespan of the plant and allow it to thrive and grow. In contrast, improper pruning can damage or even kill the plant. It may cause it to become susceptible to disease, weaken its structure and support wires, or interfere with the flow of water and nutrients throughout the plant. Other important aspects of tree maintenance include monitoring the health of trees and addressing any potential problems before they become serious. This is best done by regularly inspecting the trees on a property and taking any necessary steps to protect them, such as spraying for pests, removing damaged or dying limbs, and planting new trees. Homeowners can help with the inspection of their own properties by learning to spot possible trouble spots on their own. Some signs to look for are spots on the leaves or fungus on the bark, wilting or browning of the foliage, and changes in the structure of the tree, such as cracks in the trunk. These are all indicators that something is wrong and should be addressed right away by a tree professional. Besides inspecting and maintaining their own trees, homeowners should hire a reputable tree service to assess the health of all of the flora on their properties. These professionals are called “tree surgeons” for a reason, as they can diagnose and treat the diseases and bugs that affect them, all while protecting the integrity of the landscape. Investing in this type of care can ensure the longevity and beauty of your yard for years to come. via https://treeaestheticswa.wordpress.com/2024/05/19/the-importance-of-tree-maintenance/

What is Eczema?
Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a chronic skin condition characterized by inflammation, dryness, and itchiness. It can appear in various forms and affect people of all ages.
Eczema on Dark Skin: Overview
Eczema on dark skin presents some unique challenges and considerations, from diagnosis to treatment. It often goes undiagnosed or is misdiagnosed, leading to improper treatment and unnecessary suffering. This article aims to shed light on eczema's specific impact on dark skin and offers guidance on managing and treating it effectively.
Tumblr media
Types of Eczema Commonly Found in People with Dark Skin
Atopic Dermatitis
Atopic dermatitis is the most prevalent form of eczema. It typically appears as red, itchy rashes on the skin and can be triggered by various factors, including genetics, environment, and immune system dysfunction.
Contact Dermatitis
Contact dermatitis occurs when the skin comes into contact with an irritant or allergen, resulting in a red, itchy rash. People with dark skin may experience post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, making the condition more noticeable.
Nummular Eczema
Nummular eczema is characterized by round, coin-shaped spots on the skin. It can be more challenging to diagnose in individuals with dark skin due to the different way it presents.
Dyshidrotic Eczema
Dyshidrotic eczema causes small blisters to form on the hands and feet. In darker skin tones, these blisters may appear more red or brown and can lead to hyperpigmentation after healing.
Seborrheic Dermatitis
Seborrheic dermatitis commonly affects the scalp, causing dandruff, but it can also occur on other oily areas of the body, including the face and chest.
Understanding Eczema on Dark Skin
Causes
The exact cause of eczema remains unknown, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Triggers may include allergens, irritants, stress, and hormonal changes.
Symptoms
Eczema symptoms can vary but often include itching, redness, dryness, and inflammation. In dark skin, these symptoms may appear darker or more intense.
Diagnosis
Diagnosing eczema on dark skin can be challenging due to its varied appearance. It may be mistaken for other skin conditions, leading to delayed or incorrect treatment.
Treatment Options
Treatment for eczema on dark skin typically involves a combination of lifestyle changes, skincare, and, in some cases, medication. Moisturizing regularly and avoiding triggers are essential steps in managing the condition.
Challenges in Managing Eczema on Dark Skin
Misdiagnosis
Eczema on dark skin is frequently misdiagnosed, leading to ineffective treatments and prolonged suffering. Proper diagnosis is essential for effective management.
Delayed Treatment
Due to misdiagnosis or lack of awareness, treatment for eczema on dark skin may be delayed, leading to worsening symptoms and increased discomfort.
Hyperpigmentation
People with dark skin who have eczema are more prone to hyperpigmentation, which can occur as a result of inflammation and scratching. Proper management can help prevent this.
Best Practices for Managing Eczema on Dark Skin
Moisturizing
Regular moisturizing is crucial for managing eczema on dark skin. Opt for thick, fragrance-free creams and ointments that provide long-lasting hydration.
Using Gentle Skincare Products
Choose skincare products that are gentle, hypoallergenic, and free of fragrances and dyes to avoid further irritation and inflammation.
Avoiding Triggers
Identifying and avoiding triggers, such as certain fabrics, soaps, or environmental factors, can help prevent eczema flare-ups in individuals with dark skin.
Consulting a Dermatologist
Seeking guidance from a dermatologist experienced in treating eczema on dark skin is essential for proper diagnosis and management.
Home Remedies for Eczema on Dark Skin
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer that can help soothe and hydrate eczema-prone skin. Apply it directly to affected areas for relief from itching and inflammation.
Oatmeal Baths
Taking oatmeal baths can help calm irritated skin and reduce itching. Add colloidal oatmeal to lukewarm bathwater and soak for 15 to 20 minutes.
Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe vera gel has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce redness and soothe eczema symptoms. Apply a thin layer of aloe vera gel to affected areas as needed.
Daily Skincare Routine for Eczema on Dark Skin
Cleansing
Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser to wash the skin daily. Avoid hot water, which can strip the skin of its natural oils and exacerbate eczema symptoms.
Moisturizing
Apply a thick, emollient moisturizer to damp skin after bathing to lock in moisture and prevent dryness and itching.
Protecting from the Sun
Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to protect eczema-prone skin from the sun's harmful UV rays.
Dietary Changes to Help Manage Eczema on Dark Skin
Foods to Avoid
Certain foods may trigger eczema flare-ups. Common triggers include dairy, eggs, soy, wheat, and nuts. Avoiding these foods may help manage symptoms.
Foods to Include
Incorporating anti-inflammatory foods into your diet, such as fatty fish, fruits, vegetables, and nuts, may help reduce eczema symptoms and improve overall skin health.
Psychological Impact of Eczema on Dark Skin
Living with eczema on dark skin can take a toll on mental health. It's essential to address the emotional effects and develop coping strategies.
Coping with Emotional Effects
Seeking support from friends, family, or a mental health professional can help manage the emotional impact of living with eczema on dark skin.

Plant Health Care Outlook
The trend of the past 10 years in residential landscapes has been increasing pressure from insect pests, diseases, and vertebrates. We fully expect that this will continue in 2023 and that the plant health care outlook for the next year will include the following conditions.
Increase of insect pest number and variety that will affect more ornamental plants
A wet spring will bring increased soil and foliar disease pressure
Damage from deer will certainly continue to increase for the foreseeable future
In addition, we are just about due for the next invasive landscape pest, following emerald ash borer (1992), brown marmorated stink bug (2001), and spotted lanternfly (2014). Investing in a program to manage the biological health of landscape plants and keep soil in good shape is the best way to ensure your landscape not only survives, but thrives. Burkholder Plant Health Care offers a broad variety of programs to control insects and diseases that are damaging plants, vertebrate pests that are eating investments, and bugs that bite, sting, and transmit diseases to people and pets.

Surprising Truth About Skin Cancer - Just A Skin Issue
Tumblr media
Surprising Truth About Skin Cancer - Just A Skin Issue. It's a fact that everyone is at risk for skin cancer. It can be caused by sun damage or from using tanning beds and other artificial sources of UV rays. Most types of skin cancer, such as basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma, are curable if diagnosed early. However, melanoma is the most deadly type of skin cancer. - You Can Get Melanoma Even If You Have Dark Skin If you have dark skin, you may be wondering if you can still get melanoma and what your risk is. People with darker skin have more melanin, which helps protect the skin from the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. But the UV rays also damage the cells in your skin and can cause wrinkles, spots, hyper pigmentation (darkening of the skin), and other problems. That's why sun-safe habits are so important for anyone, regardless of skin color. However, melanoma in people with dark skin is more difficult to detect than melanoma on lighter-skinned people, and the cancers tend to spread to other parts of the body. This can lead to a lower five-year survival rate for Black patients. - You Can Get Melanoma On Your Eyes You're more likely to develop melanoma in areas of your skin that are exposed to the sun, but it can also form in less visible places, including your eye. Ocular (or eye) melanoma occurs when mutated pigment cells in the eye's middle layer, or uvea, form cancerous tumors. Your risk for ocular melanoma is higher if you have a family history of skin cancer or a personal history of melanoma. You're also more likely to develop it if you take certain medications that suppress or weaken your immune system. Ocular melanoma is often detected during routine dilated eye exams by an ophthalmologist. These examinations involve dilating the pupil with eye drops, and viewing your eyes with a lighted instrument called an ophthalmoscope. - You Can Get Melanoma On Your Nails Most people think of skin cancer as something that occurs on the face, but it can also appear on other parts of the body. For example, it can show up on the scalp or nails. Subungual melanoma develops under the finger or toe nails, and it can appear as brown-black discolorations in the nail bed. The discoloration may look like a long, thin line or streak, or it can be irregularly shaped. It can spread quickly, so it’s important to get it checked out as soon as you notice anything unusual. This is especially true if you have dark skin and have been exposed to the sun a lot, or if your family has a history of melanoma. It’s more common among people of color, but it can be found in anyone. It’s also more difficult to detect on your own, but you can protect yourself by regularly checking your nails for any changes or growths. - You Can Get Melanoma On Your Feet You may have heard about skin cancer on the back, neck and legs, but you might not know that it can develop on other body parts, too. One such area is the foot. Melanoma, the deadliest type of skin cancer, can appear on the soles of your feet. It can be hard to spot, but if you notice any changes in the shape, size or color of your feet’s skin, see a board-certified podiatrist right away. A dermatologist can use a dermoscope or Wood’s lamp to get a closer look at your skin. This can help the doctor identify a melanoma and treat it sooner. Another useful tool to remember is the ABCDE rule of melanoma. It can help you tell if a mole is changing in size, color or shape and should be seen by a doctor. Read the full article

The Ultimate Guide To Fixing Yellow Leaves On House Plants
Do you have a houseplant that has yellow leaves? If so, don’t worry! This ultimate guide will help you diagnose and fix the issue, so you can get your green-leafed friends back to good health in no time. Yellow leaves on house plants can be caused by a variety of issues, such as overwatering, improper light, or nutrient deficiencies. But with a few simple steps, you can begin to diagnose and fix the problem. From understanding the signs of overwatering and nutrient deficiency to recognizing the ideal light and soil conditions, this guide will help you understand the causes of yellow leaves and how to treat them. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get your houseplants back to health and looking their best!
The Causes Of Yellow Leaves
As we’ve said, yellow leaves can be caused by many things, including overwatering or underwatering, incorrect light, or nutrient deficiency. Let’s begin by looking at the specific causes of yellow leaves. Waterlogging - Waterlogged soil will cause the plant to wilt, which is what happens when the roots can’t take up water. If the soil is too wet, the roots can’t get the air they need, which leads to wilting. If the soil is too dry, the roots will be unable to absorb water, which can also cause wilting. The leaves will appear wilted, droopy or twisted and the tips may turn yellow or brown. Salt Buildup - Salt buildup happens when you use water with high levels of minerals (hard water) or don’t flush out the soil/pot with fresh water often enough. This can lead to yellow leaves or even burning.
Signs Of Overwatering
Overwatering is one of the most common causes of yellow leaves on house plants. If your plant’s soil is too wet, it can lead to root rot, which will kill your plant. Fortunately, it’s an easy problem to identify and fix. If you see water coming out of the bottom of the pot, you’re definitely overwatering. You should be able to take a finger and put a small indentation in the soil. If the soil is completely squishy and you can’t put any pressure on it, it’s time to water. It’s also a good idea to check the soil for signs of salt buildup. If you notice a buildup, flush the soil with fresh water. If you see signs of wilting, you’ve probably been overwatering for a few days. Make sure your soil mix is chunky and properly suited for tropical plants, you can find premixed soil on amazon.
Signs Of Nutrient Deficiency
A nutrient deficiency is a much harder problem to identify than overwatering. But it can lead to even more serious problems than yellow leaves. One of the most common nutrient deficiencies is iron. You may see yellowing between veins on the leaves, or the leaves may be smaller than normal. You can treat this with an iron supplement or by repotting with fresh soil. Another common deficiency is nitrogen deficiency, which can cause yellow leaves with a scorched appearance. To treat this, you should repot with fresh soil and fertilize with a water-soluble fertilizer once a month.
Proper Light Conditions
Light is a major factor in plant health, as it’s literally what they use to create food through photosynthesis. There are different types of light that plants need, and they tend to prefer the spectrum of light that they get from the sun. But not all plants prefer the same intensity of light, so you’ll need to research the specific needs of the plants you’re growing. As a general rule, most plants will prefer bright, indirect light. So, if you have a plant that prefers full sun, you may need to move it to a shadier spot. Another common problem is letting house plants sit in direct sunlight for too long. Plants can only handle direct sunlight for a few hours a day. You should also rotate your plants regularly to give them even light exposure.
Proper Soil Conditions
The type of soil you use can also cause yellow leaves. Many commercial soils contain chemicals that can harm the plants. Soil with extremely high or low pH can cause problems as well. You can test your soil’s pH with a meter, kit, or a small sample. If the pH is too high or too low, you can add a product to adjust it. Always use organic soil and avoid synthetic fertilizers and chemicals. Proper soil also means providing enough room for the roots to grow. House plants grow best in a pot with a diameter equal to the diameter of the plant’s original pot. You can repot with fresh soil to give the roots more room to grow.
Diagnose The Problem
Now that you’ve identified the possible causes of yellow leaves on house plants, it’s time to try to diagnose the problem. There are three key factors to consider: light, water, and nutrients. Let’s take each one at a time. Light - As we discussed above, plants need specific light levels to thrive. If your plant is getting too much light, you can move it to a shadier spot or rotate it regularly. If it’s getting too little light, try rotating it so it gets more direct sunlight. Water - The key here is regular monitoring of the soil’s moisture level. You should be able to take a finger and press a small indentation in the soil. If you can’t, it’s time to water. It’s also a good idea to check the soil for signs of salt buildup. If you notice a buildup, flush the soil with fresh water. Nutrients - The signs of nutrient deficiency are harder to identify than overwatering. One way to check for deficiencies is to do a soil test. You can also look for common signs like yellow leaves between veins or smaller than normal leaves.
Treat The Problem
Now that you’ve identified the problem, it’s time to fix it! Fortunately, each of these problems are easy to fix. First, let’s talk about light. If your plant is getting too much light, you can move it to a shadier spot. If it’s getting too little light, try rotating it so it receives more direct sunlight. Next, let’s talk about water. If your plant is waterlogged, you can flush the soil with fresh water. If there’s a buildup of salt in the soil, flush the soil with fresh water. If your plant is suffering from a nutrient deficiency, you can repot with fresh soil and fertilize with a water-soluble fertilizer once a month.
Preventing Yellow Leaves In The Future
Once you’ve solved the problem, you can begin to prevent yellow leaves in the future. First, make sure you’re rotating your plants regularly to give them even light exposure. Next, make sure your soil is the right pH for your plant. You can do a soil test to check. Finally, make sure your plants are receiving the right amount of water. You can do this by regularly inspecting the soil. If you’re unsure how much water your plant needs, there are many online guides that can help. Once you’ve got the perfect conditions, you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your beautiful houseplants! Just make sure you’re keeping an eye out for future issues. The best way to do this is to check on your plants regularly.
Conclusion
Now you know what causes yellow leaves and how to prevent them. That means you can save your plants and enjoy their beautiful leaves. Follow the tips and advice in this article and your houseplants will soon be healthy and green again. So, what are you waiting for plant baddies? Let’s get your houseplants back to health and looking their best!

If you think your trees have fire blight but aren’t sure, the Certified Arborists at Independent Tree in Newbury, Ohio can help. What should I do if my tree has fire blight?įirst, be certain that the problem has been correctly diagnosed. While many species are susceptible, fire blight is especially damaging to apples and pears. Within the genus Prunus are apples, peaches, cherries, plums, raspberries, and other valuable fruiting crops. The rose family also includes the genera Pyrus (pears) and Prunus. Which plants get fire blight?įire blight affects a lot of plants in the rose family (Rosaeae) which, as you probably guessed, includes roses. If you plan to plant an apple tree, look for disease-resistant varieties (see the list later in this article). Many types of apple trees are susceptible to fire blight. Once a tree is infected, a single canker can produce millions of bacteria that can spread to nearby susceptible trees and plants.Īlthough fire blight cankers can overwinter and become active the following spring, it is the new growth and flowers on trees that are most damaged by the bacterium’s rapid springtime spread. Pollinators that carry the bacteria from flower to flowerįire blight can also be found in old, mummified fruit that is left on the tree or that falls to the ground.Pruning cuts when the cutting blades aren’t disinfected between cuts.Spray irrigation that waters affected trees and shrubs.Rainfall that splashes bacteria onto nearby leaves, particularly during a hard rain or windy conditions.Infected or dead fruiting spurs on branchesįire blight spreads throughout a tree and to nearby trees very easily.Blighted flowers and fruit that turn brown and decay. The ends of shoots, twigs, or branches are drooping or dead (they often look like a shepherd’s crook).Cankers on a tree’s bark that look like discolored or wet patches, often with areas of dead or decayed sapwood around their edges. You can identify fire blight by several characteristics: Image by Penn State Department of Plant Pathology & Environmental Microbiology Archives, Penn State University, įire blight is a destructive disease caused by a bacterium ( Erwinia amylovora) that thrives in the warm, humid, and rainy weather that coincides with the start of the growing season, and it is easily spread.

The methods applied to treat warts
Warts frequently disappear without treatment. This is particularly obvious when youngsters get warts. In grown-ups, warts may not vanish as effectively or fast as they do in kids. Though most warts are innocuous, dermatologists, in all actuality, do diagnose and treat them.
You need to visit a dermatologist if you cannot dispose of warts that hurt or have numerous warts. Dermatologists have numerous medicines for warts. The treatment relies upon the patient's age and well-being and the sort of wart.
A dermatologist might utilize one of the accompanying medicines:
• Cantharidin: A dermatologist might treat a wart in the clinic by "painting" it with cantharidin. Cantharidin makes a blister under the wart. You can return to the clinic in a week, and the dermatologist will cut away the dead mole.
• Cryotherapy: Cryotherapy is the most widely recognized treatment for common warts in grown-ups and older kids. This treatment is not excessively painful. However, it can cause dark spots in individuals who have a brown complexion.
• Electrosurgery and curettage: Electrosurgery is a decent treatment for regular, filiform, and foot warts. Curettage includes cutting off the wart with a sharp blade or little, spoon-moulded instrument. The dermatologist might eliminate the wart by scratching it off before or after electrosurgery.

• Excision: The specialist might cut the wart.
If the warts are difficult to treat, the dermatologist might utilize one of the accompanying medicines:
• Laser treatment: Laser treatment is a choice, principally for warts that did not respond to different treatments. Before laser treatment, the dermatologist might numb the wart with a sedative infusion.
• Chemical peels: When flat warts appear, there are generally numerous warts. Since countless warts show up, dermatologists frequently endorse "peeling" techniques to eliminate these moles. It means you will apply a peeling medication at home consistently.
• Bleomycin: The dermatologist might infuse every mole with an anti-cancer medication, bleomycin. The shots might hurt. They can have side effects, like nail loss, whenever given to the fingers.

• Lmmunotherapy: This treatment utilizes the patient's immunity system to battle warts. This treatment has been used when warts hold place despite different medicines. One kind of immunotherapy includes applying a chemical, diphencyprone, to warts. A gentle hypersensitive response happens around the treated warts.

A toothache is the most obvious way to spot trouble brewing. Your Kids will complain about toothaches quickly and loudly. Any pain in the teeth is a sign that you need to schedule an appointment immediately. A child experiencing a toothache requires immediate care, as damage is already beginning.
2. Swelling or Tender Gums
Gingivitis is a common dental problem in kids, and plaque is usually the cause. Bleeding during brushing or swelling around the gums is a sign to visit a children's dentist near you.
3. Tooth Discoloration
Tooth discoloration can signify general decay or the early indication of a dead tooth. Dead teeth are common in kids, but if you live nearby, it's important to have a dentist in Pflugerville, TX, diagnose and treat the issue.
4. Spotting on the Teeth
White spots on your kid's teeth indicate an underlying issue. Sometimes this indicates enamel hypoplasia, a thinning of enamel on the teeth. White, yellow, or brown spots all indicate separate issues a dentist should be called in to diagnose.
5. Bad Breath (Halitosis)
Breath odor or bad breath, called Halitosis, can indicate a more serious problem. It may be simply a hygiene issue, and proper flossing and brushing can mitigate the problem. But if that doesn't help and bad breath persists, it is time for a pediatric dentist to diagnose the cause.
6. Canker Sores
Canker sores are a common dental problem in children. Canker sores, also known as aphthous ulcers, are small sores in the mouth. They are mostly found inside the lips or cheeks, on the tongue, or mouth. Often they are a non-issue, but sometimes they indicate a deeper problem. If the sores return frequently or don't heal quickly, it's time for a dentist to take a look.
7. Cracked or Chipped Teeth
If your kid's baby tooth or permanent tooth gets chipped or broken and it accompanies pain, your child needs an immediate appointment with an emergency pediatric dentist. It can cause due to athletic injuries, teeth grinding habits, or eating hard food.
8. Open-Mouth Breathing
Open-mouth breathing can indicate a more serious complication if a cold or another issue does not cause it. If you see that your child is taking breath through their mouth during the day or asleep, you should have a dentist make an initial diagnosis. Sometimes the cause of night breathing issues is sleep apnea. Daytime open-mouth breathing can be caused by misalignment or an allergy issue.
All of these issues are good reasons to see a dentist. Contact The Grand Family Dental office today if you need a pediatric dentist in Pflugerville, TX, for your child’s good dental care!
