Since I'm in the mood, I decided to go ahead and draw Eventide today. Cause why not, right?
For this silent mailpony, Seneca doesn't force her to talk, and instead opts to offer flowers or treats as thanks. So far it's been unsuccessful, but she will keep trying.
Tumblr media
Seneca also tried to coax her into at least giving her hints about what she likes. Which, too, hasn't worked. Little reaction to anything she has suggested and no words. Seneca is getting a little distraught but her hopes are high. She will let Eventide talk when she feels she is capable. In the meantime, more flowers and baked goods!

TMI Tuesday: What inspired you to create this AU?
((Hello!! Thank you for the asks, how fun. >:3c
When the Next Gen hype train started some years back on dA, I was really fascinated by the beautiful designs I saw and ended up wanting to design Next Gen chars of my own, for funsies! I was super into the idea of creating "sun and moon heirs" (I just love the theme), so my first Next Gens happened to be Princess Lumina and Prince Amadeus! Dream Flow and Eventide Twister were already designed at this point, just for the fun of creating pony OCs, though they weren't their own fully-realized characters yet. It wasn't until the idea of adding in a third royal kid, Star Chime, grew on me that actual story started forming! I began thinking up the very first story scenarios between Star Chime and Dream Flow.
Originally the story was way more focused on the Canterlot Royal Family (Luna and Celestia's tragic past, as well as the mystery behind their origins, were HUGE inspirations as my mind was eager to fill in the lore gaps). But as I designed more next gens, the story just kept expanding and interconnecting until some things got tweaked and the story shifted to our current cast. ; w ;
Besides the royal sisters, the concept of Cutie Marks and their connections to destiny has ALWAYS been a point of fascination for me. So this story ended up being a way to explore the theme~~ ))

I love myself a good meme or two FINALLY. FINISHED THIS!! **SAID CHAPTERS AREN'T COMING ANY TIME SOON, AND IT'S FOR THIS REASON I NEEDED TO DRAW THESE HAHAHA
I think it's a given that Eventide and Monochrome will see each other again one day. I won't be sharing the circumstances, so until that far off day...
Protective parents Skychaser and Monochrome. Nova realizes he's been adopted that day.
Nova's just learning how to cook, don't blame him for just discovering his seasonings.
Mane Seven...? Eve's there, I just literally had no room sobs

"Mane Six"
Feat. Star Chime, Dreamaria Flow, Eventide Twister, Skychaser, Nova Spark, Monochrome
[Spending time with friends!] One Day. AKA. A story told in two parts. Brain freeze sucks, yo. Monochrome has dealt with Skychaser and Nova's shenanigans far longer than the girls, so they're used to this. Doesn't make them any less impressed, though. But hey...hey!!! Full cast!! (I've wanted to draw a group pic for so long, it's so nice to finally get to)

“Wingman”
Feat: Dreamaria Flow,  Eventide Twister, Skychaser
TLDR: Sky has the best intentions, but he's also a dummy, so good luck with that.
We saw Eventide Twister and Skychaser meet for the first time in "New Step Forward", and then a bit of their six-month budding friendship in "Impasse". But how did it come to develop after? It was slow-going, but within a year-and-a-half of knowing each other, the two ponies grew comfortable around one another and had established trust. Skychaser came to really enjoy meek Eventide's company. She's a sweet and creative soul, and after Monochrome had moved away two years prior, it was nice having a new kind of calm presence to balance out his and Dream Flow's upbeat energy. Coming to recognize the younger mare's struggle with anxiety, reminding him of his little buddy Rainy Daze, an instinctual need to look out for Eventide naturally took hold of Sky. This desire only increased tenfold upon meeting Eve's pompous jerk of a brother, Astral Dusk. If Eventide never got to develop a relationship with that guy or know what a real big brother was like, then gosh dang it, Skychaser would just have to step up! The question was...how? Dream Flow had everything covered. She could get Eventide to relax and calm down when she was stressed, and with her talent alone, Dream could read and communicate all of Eventide's unspoken responses. Their relationship was admirable, but it also reminded the stallion that he had yet to truly connect with Eventide on a deeper emotional level. So...where to start? How could he truly prove that he was someone Eve could rely on? And then, after much quiet observation and contemplation, he saw it. And all those elegant, intimate poems in Eventide's journal finally made sense. Because you can bet your butt that Skychaser, with his internal romance radar, can recognize the signs of flourishing feelings. A little late, but better now than never.
More info about each scenario under cut!
1. Sometimes you're waiting for foods and you use that free time to do your gal pal's hair...but anyway. Maybe Sky came to interpret Eventide's willingness to share her romantic poems with him as a subconscious wish for aid that he had finally cracked. Oooor maybe Eventide was sorta convinced her poems were far too convoluted for someone like Skychaser to decipher. Either way, almost immediately Sky could see the disaster unfolding before him. Soft dear Eventide was quietly pining over blissfully romance-blind Dream. Oh no. And that was the day Sky vowed to live up to his newly self-designated role as older brother and wingman. He'd do what he could to back Eve up in capturing Dream's attention and awakening a connection through "romantic bonding"!
2-3. ...no one said Skychaser was a particularly discreet boy, whoops. Apparently Sky's idea of aid is throwing together "romantic scenarios", confident it'll create a spark! Eventide on the other hoof had never been so confused or flustered in her life. At that point she had no idea what to even make of Sky's mischief. She knew he was a little odd, endearingly so! But this was something else, man. There was a short moment where Eve, in her burning embarrassment, silently questioned Sky's intent. Because maybe he was doing this purely for his own entertainment; for laughs and giggles over getting a reaction out of her. This wouldn't be her first experience. ...but something about that wide, encouraging beam of his and his horrible inability to subtly wink-nudge like a normal person had her realize his efforts were pretty on-brand for the patient, supportive, and sometimes awkward guy Eve had come to know. And that...that was reassuring. It was like Eventide was processing Sky's genuineness for the first time.
4. In which Eventide gives Sky a taste of his own medicine. In her own Eve way. As much as Sky can be a sinnamon roll within a romantic relationship, he is hilariously easy to fluster when it comes to a crush or person of attraction. Jeebusy jeebus boy. Dream is also probably not the best pony to bring these matters up to son, her solutions are pretty straight forward. It's been a literal decade since Eve has made any attempt at teasing someone. But seeing Sky on the hot seat this time, daring to cover up his own flustered feels after what she was put through?? Oh...the part of Eventide that had been flushed in the face one too many times could not let it go. So in a way, she reciprocated his sense of humor for the first time. The attempt was spontaneous and risky. Yet Sky's exaggerated sniffles of betrayal, as well as the banter between himself and Dream, left Eve feeling tickled. A successful attempt at letting her walls down a bit further....who knew interactions like that could feel so warm and fulfilling?
___________________________________________
Man does it feel good to finally establish Eventide and Skychaser's relationship~ <3 I hope this can bring a smile or a little bit of laughter during these times. The expressions were so fun, oh my God.

Bonus/Continuation of ‘Wingman”!
Feat: Eventide Twister, Skychaser
Denied. In the end, Eve's little half-hearted judging squint gets the message across and Sky recognizes that he miiiight've been pushing Eventide a little too much. He later apologizes and promises he'll tone his shenanigans down, to Eventide's relief. But Sky is still the doof we love. And every once in a while, Eve has to dish what Sky has appropriately named the "bap of dissaproval". Whether on his shoulder or his face, it's the lightest and most harmless (borderline affectionate) of taps with her journal. But hey, it's a new form of communication between the two, so Sky will take it!

Feat. Eventide Twister,  Dreamaria Flow
Story and Description Under The Cut
Ponies' voices fill the night!                Hearth's Warming Eve is here once again! Happy hearts so full and bright!                 Hearth's Warming Eve is here once again!" The jubilant voices of Twilight Sparkle's party guests resounded within the walls of her castle foyer. Various citizens of Ponyville crowded the spacious hall, mingling together in friendly chatter or the exchanging of gifts if they weren't already harmonizing along with one of Ponyville's Hearth's Warming songs. The sheer number of merry attendees was far from a surprise. It was a grand celebration hosted by the Friendship Princess herself, held every year before the day of Hearth's Warming. And the town's ever-expanding populace over the years only meant more room for families and friends to peacefully join together in celebrating the beloved holiday season. Yet even with that knowledge, Eventide Twister tensely sat on one side of the room, blue eyes momentarily flitting across any passing faces before looking away to avoid any possible eye contact. She let herself appear to be distracted by the well-decorated room; focusing on the beautifully draping fabrics of reds and golds, or the curling ribbon and colored lights that wrapped around each and every crystalline pillar in sight. At the beginning of the celebration, she had aided in flying about, setting up wreaths and hanging up ornaments on the looming tree in the middle of the hall. It was simply per yearly tradition for the party guests. Perhaps she had been the only pegasus to keep her distance from the other attendees while she quietly worked around the uninhibited nooks of the room. But having an extra horn right beside her, cheerily lifting decorations up to her with orange-hued magic and a matching vibrant grin, had significantly altered the experience she had once dreaded and avoided each year prior. Every other presence in the room had left her mind with the stringing of lights and the mirthful laughter of her company. But her small, blissful space of comfort and genuine fun had ended once the actual party had started and a wave of other ponies had flooded into the castle. Again, Eventide's eyes roamed over the crowd. She anxiously searched for the streaks of blue locks she had grown so familiar with in the past year. Though when the sight of her friend had yet again escaped her, Eventide returned to taking in the decor- "You're rather quiet, miss Eventide! I hope you're enjoying the party?" Eventide felt herself tense further. She turned back towards the group beside her and the older unicorn stallion who had paused conversation to address her. He was a researcher from Canterlot, as well as an acquaintance of her mother, much like the two other mares who flanked him. When Eventide instinctively glanced over at the red-headed mare sitting right beside her, her mother smiled back lightly. "She's just waiting for her friend to return from the refreshment table," Sunset Shimmer answered. She felt her mother's hoof affectionately rub at her upper back. It was a comforting gesture that was appreciated, and a reminder of why Eventide had stuck so close to the mare in her friend's absence in the first place. But it didn't quite distract the pegasus enough from the three sets of eyes that were now honed in on her. Eventide could only faintly nod in agreement, hoping the older adults would carry on with their previous conversation. "We're sorry if we've been leaving you out, dear!" One of the mares piped up. "Enough of us old ponies talking! I don't know nearly enough about you, darling, and I've known your mother for years!" Leaning in, the second mare gave her an eager smile. "Say, what is it that you do? I can only imagine what you're capable of as Sunset's daughter. She's one versatile mare!" Sounds of agreement were shared between the three ponies, all while Eventide stiffened. What was she supposed to say? That the daughter of one of Equestria's greatest modern researchers and inventors - right-hoof mare of Princess Twilight herself- was a simple mailmare? Eventide could feel her face grow hot at the pitiful thought, and the presence of her mother beside her became more prominent with each second she remained silent. And yet an answer refused to form. 'I...I'm barely anything. I can't embarrass her like that...' "Well, you're not far off! Eve is great at a number of things!" Eventide turned to her mother, surprised by her answer. There, she could see Sunset's motherly pride radiating off of her. Whether the older mare was taking the opportunity to brag and exaggerate, as a parent instinctively would, or save her daughter from an answer, the pegasus wasn't certain. "That's what I thought!" The inquiring mare laughed. Sunset happily hummed in return. "Yep! I mean, this whole month alone, she's been so focused on practicing away on her piano! She plays beautifully-" Sunset turned her head, her expression shifting to one of confusion when she caught Eventide's stare of dismay. 'Not again...' "The piano, you say!" The stallion exclaimed with great intrigue. Eventide just barely stopped a wince as the mares also made sounds of interest. "I enjoy some Fréderéin Chopin myself!" He continued with a strange puff to his chest, as if satisfied with his own tastes. "You must be quite skilled if you've been practicing that much!" One of the mares added, equally as interested as her stallion companion. "Well we absolutely just have to hear you play sometime, won't we~?" The other mare chirped. Eventide bit her lip. There it was; the suggestion this topic typically lead to ever since she was a kid. She gave a vague hum, hoping it'd be enough to assuage their interest. Because well, they were strangers, and acquaintances of her mom at best. The possibility of seeing them again soon, or of their request being serious, was next to none. "Hey, actually! One of the musicians playing for the party has a piano set up right here in the hall!" Eventide's body went completely rigid. All while the three ponies gasped in realization, the same idea seemingly flashing through their minds. There was a painful churn to her stomach as the ponies happily chattered, seemingly discussing their ideas for song requests. But at that point, she couldn't hear what they were saying. She was frozen, her mind struggling to catch up to the situation. She could feel her awareness extending outward towards the large sea of strangers surrounding her, to the possibility of having no choice but to be the center of their attention and judgment. Very quickly, Eventide could feel her skin flushing. Her mind fuzzed over as it looped the horrific idea over and over again in her head. "Actually," Sunset Shimmer quickly interjected. Her voice pierced through Eve's thoughts, though not enough to relieve her cornered mind. "Eve really doesn't like performing on the spot." "Oh, are you sure?" The stallion deflated, doing nothing to ease Eventide's anxiety-ridden nerves. "If you've been practicing that much, I'm sure you'd do just fine, deary! Give it a try!" While a look of annoyance flickered across Sunset's face, Eventide could already feel her mind retreating into itself, far away from the choice before her. Her blue eyes flitting from face to face, she could just barely assess their expressions. Their insistence and expectations weighed her body and mind like concrete, and she could feel her internal panic overpowering her- -until she felt a cooling wave rush through her form, followed by a warm foreleg looping snugly around hers. "I'm back!" That familiar sweet, sing-songy voice broke through Eventide's clouded focus. And there she was. Beside her stood her friend, Dreamaria Flow, who smiled brilliantly at the group. Two beverages were suspended in the air next to her head by an orange aura of magic; the very same aura that swirled around her radar of a horn. "Sorry to interrupt, everyone! I'd just like to borrow my friend back, if you don't mind~" Dream shifted her attention to Eventide and smiled brighter, if possible. Sunset didn't miss a beat or give the other three ponies a chance to respond. It was like she was making a point, cheerfully accentuating her words purposefully as she replied. "Oh no please, go on ahead! You two should enjoy the night while you can!" "Sure will, Sunset! You do the same!" Dreamaria was already gently tugging Eventide away. Before Eve could turn to follow, the pegasus didn't miss her mother's grateful smile at Dream...or the playful, knowing glance she gave to her daughter. Swiftly averting her gaze, Eventide moved to match Dream Flow's stride, although Dream slowed her own steps in return to pace with her friend. "That felt like one stressful corner you were being pushed into..." Dreamaria eventually noted once the two had made some distance away from the group and the other partygoers. She tilted her head, giving her friend a kind smile while her brows narrowed back. "I'm not sure what was happening, but it sure seemed like they were pushing boundaries...how are you doing?" Eventide allowed herself a deep breath, one Dream Flow frequently reminded her to take. The stress that had overtaken her chest and mind was far from subsiding completely. But it was significantly less of a strain than what it was just moments before. And she only had one talented pony and her magic to thank for that. While she shot her friend a look of deep appreciation, more than relieved to get away, her eyes were soon trailing over to the rest of the noisy crowd surrounding them. Even after regaining her comfort bubble, she was once more made aware of just how out of her element she was. She never went to parties. Never did she willingly attend social gatherings if it meant being stuck in a room full of strangers and their uncomfortable attempts at forced conversation with her. ...but being invited along by Dreamaria to the unicorn's first Ponyville Hearth's Warming party had been the one exception. 'I really thought I'd adjust...but it still feels like there's hardly any room to breathe.' Dream Flow herself took a glance around the room. Then, with a cheery hum, she leaned in closer to Eventide. "Hey! Why don't we get the heck out of here?" Eventide blinked, giving a puzzled glance to her friend. It was only met by the mare's pleasant beaming. "This whole experience has been new and interesting. But I think I'm ready for our presents back at your place~ So we can head home, but only if you're ready!" While Dream Flow patiently waited for an answer from the pegasus, Eve found herself searching the unicorn's face, questions rolling through her mind. Dream had been so enthusiastic about the celebration just hours ago, and they were barely an hour into the actual party as they spoke. Not wanting to keep her friend waiting, Eventide slowly nodded. That was enough for Dream to happily nod back and motion with her head towards the double doors at the beginning of the foyer that exited the castle. Walking out into the cold winter night, the layer of snow across the land crunched underhoof. And Eventide couldn't help once last glance at the bright, bustling castle before trudging on beside her friend. -------------------------------------------------- The town was far quieter than they had left it nearly two hours ago, with the dark of night claiming the sky. It seemed that the usual townsfolk were either attending Twilight's party or staying indoors to celebrate with their loved ones. This left the streets of Ponyville fairly empty. The only immediate sounds around the two mares were their soft sips of hot cocoa that Dream Flow had retrieved earlier, as well as their leisurely paced hoofsteps. There was very little rush when the stringed lights on every house and tree were a sight to behold. The orbs beautifully illuminated the town with dappled glows, various colors bouncing off of the snow as well as the extravagant decorations that lined the many streets. But by the time they were crossing the bridge in the middle of town, Eventide's confusion had slowly subsided and the bigger picture of Dream Flow's decision had pieced itself together within her head. Her legs had begun to slow and drag through the blanket of snow at her own realization. It wasn't the excitement of presents that had drawn her friend away from a party she had been looking forward to. No. Dream had left for her sake. The timing was too convenient. After going out of her way to invite Eventide out and celebrate Dream Flow's first Hearth's Warming Eve in Ponyville, Eventide had gone and worried her compassionate friend with her trivial stresses. Again. And over the idea of playing a piano, of all things. They were supposed to enjoy the party together. Eventide was supposed to let the unicorn experience the excitement of one of Princess Twilight's celebrations, along with the togetherness of celebrating it with her new town's merry citizens. But she couldn't even accomplish that much for her friend. Now Dream Flow felt obligated to walk her home, knowing full well how much Eventide couldn't handle the pressure of a simple social event. Eve's ears folded back against her head, her eyelids drooping. 'I let her down... I ruined her night. And now she's stuck looking after me. I shouldn't have come...I should've known I'd weigh her down. But I was only thinking about myself-' "I...don't think anypony should have to feel this guilt-ridden on the day before Hearth's Warming." Eventide stilled and her head snapped up, realizing that Dream Flow was a few paces ahead of her on the bridge. The blue mare stood half-turned towards her, orange magic still glowing around her horn and cup. With a meek smile, Dreamaria's hooves crunched the snow as she walked back towards Eve, stopping a comfortable distance before her. Her voice was one of patience as she spoke, keeping her question soft in the silence of night. "Want to share what's going through your mind...?" Eventide bit her inner cheek, avoiding her friend's eye momentarily. She struggled, for an uncomfortable amount of time she would say. Yet Dreamaria remained there with a tolerance that was far beyond Eventide's understanding. "I..." Eventide's voice sounded too loud in this stillness, and in general, too grating for her own ears. She nearly stopped herself from speaking any further if it meant not having to hear such an unpleasant tone. Her pupils flicked to Dream's, just briefly, before lowering back towards their hooves. Even as quietly as she replied, her voice carried through the quiet air. "...m-madeyouleave. I'm sorry." As her words faded into the air, silence overtaking the space between them once more, she could almost feel Dreamaria's two-toned gaze boring through her. She chanced a peek up at her friend, uncertain of what she'd find. With a mildly troubled expression, Dream eyes seemed to be searching Eventide, analyzing her even. And within a second of Eventide lifting her head, the other mare's expression shifted into something gentler. "...there's something I want you to understand." Dream stepped closer, except this time, she was looking off towards the direction they had come from. "I like experiencing new things. And knowing what a Hearth's Warming party hosted by Princess Twilight was all about was certainly something I was interested in. But. What was more important to me was sharing that fun. And I invited you with me because I wanted to hang out and share it with you." Dream shifted her attention back to Eventide, her warm smile never faltering. "Sure, I liked the energy! But there's no one at that party I'd rather spend my Hearth's Warming Eve with. And if you're uncomfortable, then that's my priority." Eventide's breath involuntarily stilled. She instead watched as a flicker of guilt crossed her friend's face. "Really, I'm the one who knowingly pushed your comfort zone with the invitation. Getting out of that zone every once in a while can be good, but it's not exactly fair if I made you feel like you had to say yes-" "No." Eventide startled both of them with the ease in which she had responded. A shaky breath escaped her mouth in the form of a white cloud. Taking in Dream's face, her kind words echoing inside her head, Eve recognized the erratic pounding within her own chest. "Iw-wantedtogo..." 'With you.' It took a heartbeat longer for Dream's surprise to fade back into its usual warmth. "That's comforting...and honestly, I'm proud you gave this party a chance. You should be proud too! It takes a lot of courage to face the things you aren't comfortable with." Eventide nodded softly. She willed herself to take the compliment to heart, however difficult that tended to be. And with a confident beam, Dream trotted to stand next to her friend, lightly nudging her with her muzzle. "Well~? Let's get going! I meant it when I said I was looking forward to exchanging gifts- eep!" Any steps they had taken were quickly halted by a gust of chilly winter wind that tossed their manes about. Dream jolted, her magic hastily tugging at her blue sweater vest and the green sleeves beneath in a weak effort to cover any exposed pelt. "I d-don't remember winter being this cold!" She turned to Eventide, wide-eyed. "How are you not shivering?" Fighting back a smile at the endearing sudden shift in demeanor, Eventide responded by looking back at her wings and the thick layers of feathers covering them. After a pause, she then slowly and timidly extended one of them towards the unicorn. No explanation had to be given, apparently. Dream might as well have teleported beside her as she ducked under the pegasus' cream and orange plumage and pressed up against her for warmth. It took another moment of hesitation and mentally calming herself down for Eve to fully drape the wing over Dreamaria's back. Dream released a sigh of relief. "You're so lucky to have a thick coat, Eve!" She laughed. "You're like a heater!" Eventide didn't hide a shy smile that time. Resuming their walk, it wasn't long before Eventide could recognize the dark red roof of her family's home. She pulled a key out from a pocket in the gradient, monochromatic sweater she herself was wearing. A click unlocked the door, and she ushered Dream and her shivering self to head inside first. As expected, the house was soundless. In light of her choosing to attend Twilight's celebration for the first time in years, her father had also decided to join in on the festivities. As for her brother Astral, there had been no sign of him at the party. He was no doubt working tirelessly away in his lab, as he tended to do these days. The interior of the living room wasn't completely cast in darkness. Much like the castle and the streets, the Shimmer family household was also decorated with various lights, although every light in the room gave off a matching golden glow that created a warm, soothing atmosphere. In one corner of the room was their Hearth's Warming Tree, shimmering with the very same lights. And at the top sat the common Hearth's Warming tree topper; a star of destiny, the biggest and most vibrant of lights in the room. It might as well have been a beacon in the dark. And unless her friend voiced otherwise, Eventide settled on keeping the actual living room lights off if it meant basking in this beautiful ambiance. Shutting the door behind her and removing her snow boots, Eventide watched Dream Flow float their emptied cups over to the closest trash can, just before making a beeline for the tree. The lively unicorn apparently wasn't wasting any time. "Okay, let's get to it! Me first!" Dream eagerly declared. As Eventide made her way to the middle of the room, one of the various presents beneath the tree began levitating before floating over to the mare. Once in Eve's hooves, the orange glow of magic surrounding it dispersed. Dream Flow sat before her. The unicorn had her hooves clutched close to her chest while she observed her pegasus friend closely. If Eventide didn't know better, she would've thought that the other mare was watching on nervously. Upon tearing away the green wrapping paper, Eve's eyebrows flew up at the thick, mottled blue leather journal that was within her hold. It was clasped close, the cover bordered by beautiful metallic silver. But what drew her eye to the center of the surface was the same metallic silver, forming elegant swirls, dots, and music notes into a large design Eventide could recognize as a stylized version of her own cutie mark. "I had it custom made!" Dream quickly spoke up. She was rubbing her hooves together at this point, and now Eventide could curiously see that the mare was, in fact, timidly looking between her and her present. "I noticed your other journal was filling up and I thought you could use a new one! Something nice and fancy for your wonderful poems." Dream Flow shone a sheepish smile at her friend. "I hope it's a useful gift. I've never...bought a present for anyone besides my uncle before." 'Oh... I'm the first...?' While that almost seemed hard to believe, coming from somepony as giving and considerate at Dreamaria, a part of Eventide somehow felt lighter with that thought. She held her new, beautifully crafted journal to her chest, offering the most earnest smile she could at Dream. "Iloveit. Thank you." "Oh good!" Dream breathed out heavily in relief. She clasped her hooves together, appearing at ease. "Happy Hearth's Warming, Eve! Soo..." Her hooves began to tap against each other, interest lighting her face. "Not to sound too eager, but you said you had a gift for me too~?" Eventide stood still, the mixture of determination and uncertainty that she had been suppressing the whole day catching up all at once. 'Right... This is it.' While self-conscious, Eventide walked over towards the nearest chair, shifting it to the most ideal location she had noted in mind. She wordlessly motioned for the other mare to sit, who did so without question albeit visibly curious. Holding her breath unknowingly, Eventide found herself tensely striding to a small studio piano of dark mahogany wood, tucked in one corner of the room directly in front of Dreamaria's seat. Its keys were facing the wall, providing a makeshift barrier between herself and any onlookers to her performance. During her younger days, back when she had played more, it had helped with stage fright. Years had passed since she could handle an audience beyond her own family. And as such, as Eventide slid herself onto her seat before her piano, the mare positioned her hooves in their rightful places, only to watch them shake. Her jaw tightened. '...I can do this. I've practiced day after day for this. Just to get this right.' She fought the urge to glance up at the mare on the other side of the piano, knowing it could very well break any sort of resolve she had desperately clung to. It was taking everything in her not to back out, to avoid the possibility of making a mistake and embarrassing herself. But she had looked over this piece she had written, tweaking it every way she could to perfect it. She had practiced it to the point of knowing it by heart. With one last deep breath, she steeled herself. Her hooves made contact with the instrument before her. 'This is for her...and only her.' After a moment's tension, the first high key pierced the room, like the first touch of snowfall. It hung in the air for a moment before other slow, gentle keys faded in with it. Eventide took her time, letting each key have its turn to echo in the room of golden glows. There was only a heartbeat of momentary silence before a lower melody drifted across the keys. To her it resembled the heavy fall of icy snow, churning in the darkness, where all sense of direction was lost. And then it dispersed. Her hooves flew across the higher keys, returning to that original melody with fervor. Closing her eyes, the storm had made way to the first rays of light, breaking through the clouds. It revealed endless snow-blanketed fields. And there she traversed. Uncertain. Searching. Reaching. But somehow there was trust. There was belief, even with no set path, that she could continue onward, believing in that light that had returned her sight. Her world. The light was warm and the sunlit clouds urged her on. And in return, she could feel something within her swell with tender emotion. Adoration. Before she had realized it, Eventide had completely relaxed as her song flowed out of her. There was no desire to hide, and no need to force herself around Dream Flow. At this moment, for once, she felt at peace. Like being a simple pianist at this point in time was enough. The keys slowed once more, and the pegasus had her final notes resound through the air. As they faded, she allowed herself a moment of silence. And relief flooded her. 'I...did it...' Eventide raised her head, realizing the silence had yet to be broken by either pony in the room. And her eyes found Dream's. Dreamaria was staring at her with an expression she had never seen before from the mare. Wide-eyed. Slack-jawed. There was the slightest bit of movement to her mouth, as if any words she had in mind had not fully taken form. "Eve..." she finally murmured, so softly that Eventide felt her heartbeat quicken. She chose not to say anything as Dream Flow pulled herself out of her chair. Her hooves clacked against the wooden floor as she moved towards the piano. Dream stood on her hind hooves and placed her hooves atop the piano from behind. One hoof slid across its cool surface, a look of bewilderment on her face. "What...how did you...?" Dreamaria continued to look over the piano, and then at Eventide, not even bothering to finish her questions. That wide-eyed speechlessness had Eventide unsure whether to feel elated or worried. Either way, she timidly glanced back down at her keys. "...Happy Hearth's Warming." "You..." Dream blinked, and Eve could see pieces fitting together in her head. "Because I wanted to hear you play...?" Eventide nodded. Thankfully, Dream appeared to be pulling herself back in again, with her mouth stretching into a thrilled grin. "That was amazing!" She declared, delighted laughter tinging her voice. "Wow! I just...that was almost less of a melody and more like an emotion you just played. I didn't even need my magic to feel it..." Dream touched her hoof to her chest. "It was so passionate and...incredible. And...wow, look at me, I don't even know if I have the proper words right now!" She giggled. "Is this what means to be shaken?" By the time Dreamaria had finished speaking, Eventide could feel her cheeks flaring with heat. She shifted in her seat, not knowing how to handle the amount of happiness brimming in her heart. Movement from her friend's end had her watching Dreamaria rest her chin and hooves on top of the piano. Only then did Eventide really take in the way the decor was illuminating Dream Flow's figure from behind, creating a radiant halo of light. Beautiful. Breathtaking. "You really never cease to amaze me, Eventide..." The lights glimmered in Dremaria's predominantly orange irises. She exhaled serenely and closed her eyes, shifting her forelegs to properly relax and rest her head. "Could you please play it one more time? That energy...I'd like to feel it again." That was a request Eventide would never refuse. With just a bit more confidence than before, the pegasus once again took to her piano keys. She took her time, playing slightly slower than before, but with just as much heart. There was something strangely intimate about presenting this song. It was like she was telling a story, and bearing her heart. And she felt safe doing so. A momentary glimpse at Dream Flow's peaceful face, and Eventide was once more smiling to herself. The two of them in this tender moment, and this song that carried everything she held within, were all that mattered.

-Music: "Adore" by Stephan Moccio. A fitting title. At one point in time I had planned on being subtle with Eve's feelings, but ultimately threw that out the window and this chapter happened. Say hello to DreamTwister~ This takes place at the end of Dreamaria's first year in Ponyville, and before either of them meet Skychaser. So back when it was just the two of them. It was a year Eventide spent learning what a friend's unconditional love and support was really like. And through the months, it lead to the development of...deep fondness. Eventide is far from ready to express the extent of it. But music and the arts have certainly proven to be a helpful outlet. Somanywarmfeelings...but if you've read Parental Shipping and know how well Dream recognizes the different forms of love, then well, you may imagine she won't be putting anything together any time soon. *holdsbothofthem* And because I designed it, here's a quick drawing I did for the design of Eventide's new journal!

Destinyverse - Human Sky/Dream/Eve
Feat: Dreamaria Flow,  Eventide Twister, Skychaser
I had a mighty need to design human forms for a certain trio.
Now, to make it clear, these humanized/human designs of the Destinyverse cast are different from Mirrorverse counterparts! While humanized designs are the actual Destinyverse characters as humanoids, Mirrorverse characters would be their in-story "Equestria Girls" counterparts!
Such as these three, who should pretty much be treated as a separate cast of characters.
Thankfully these human designs have very obvious not-human traits to differentiate them!
Humanized, pegasi characters would retain their wings and also have feathered shoulders, ears, and feathers at the sides of their faces!
Unicorns would bear a semi-translucent, crystal-like horn protrusion from their forehead (they differ in color! Dream's happens to be white with hints of color depending on the light!). It's their arcane focus when casting spells.
And earth ponies would appear the most human-like, but any markings they have as ponies are kept. And maybe they'd have pointed ears (as opposed to "unicorns", who I guess would have short ears. I feel like certain prideful unicorns would be high and snooty about their "elegant", rounded ears).
Fun Fact: We never see her in casual clothing, but Eventide enjoys dark, muted colors. Many find it unexpected with how bright and pastel she is, but eyy, she works it~
Sky just...loves his one hoodie. H-he washes and maintains it, don't worry!! In time he'll probably build a hoodie collection.
He's just chilling and smiling down at his girls here.
And Dream is harder to pin, but she feels like a vest person....she might also like things that are long and flowy, like her uncle Serein!

“Gems and Flora”
Feat.  Astral Dusk, Terra Rosa, Eventide Twister,  Nova Spark
"S-she's really pretty..." At one point in time as a child, Astral Dusk's younger sister Eventide Twister was also brought over to visit the human world. She had a harder time adjusting to the other dimension compared to her older brother, but at the very least she got to meet Astral's friendly and pretty friend Terra Rosa. It didn't stop little Eve from hiding behind her brother or any objects in her field of vision every chance she got. That visit was Eve's first and last dimensional-hop. Like her father who was able to visit the human world once before with his wife, Eve prefers standing on all four of her hooves. And while Eve had developed an itty bitty kiddy crush on Terra, it was a short-lived one as the two never really saw each other as often as Astral and Terra did.
After the expulsion of (most) magic from the Mirrorverse, Princess Twilight tried to keep the Crystal Mirror's existence as obscure as possible, only allowing Sunset Shimmer (and eventually Astral Dusk) free passage between dimensions. But upon Terra Rosa's eager request, and after gaining Princess Twilight's approval, Terra was given permission to visit Equestria as a sort of one-week cultural field trip! After crossing dimensions, to both Astral and Terra's surprise, it turned out her pony form was that of a unicorn's! Astral would've been lying to himself if he had claimed he hadn't felt even a tinge of envy, being an aspiring researcher of gems and magical properties who couldn't wield magic himself. But Terra was having a blast with her new form, and well, that's what ended up really mattering to Astral. Meanwhile, it's preeetty uh...weird to enter a world where being naked is a norm.
While meeting her alternate dimensional daughter was surreal and rather mind-boggling for Princess Twilight, Terra Rosa was filled to the brim with excitement over meeting not only her pony-mom, but her technical half-dimensional brother, Nova Spark! Nova didn't...quite share the same sentiment, preferring to stare at Terra bug-eyed and fluffed up from behind his mother's leg. Though to be fair, having a strange energetic kid appear from another dimension and call your own mother 'mom' would be a little alarming. Just a little. Astral didn't really appreciate the distrusting glances the brat prince would shoot at his friend whenever she gushed and rambled at the three of them over the new sights around her. He especially didn't appreciate catching a soft mutter of "weirdo" from Nova when the younger colt thought no one was listening. It took everything in Astral not to trip the snobbish boy right then and there. Safe to say while Terra found her younger half-sibling adorable and huggable, Nova as a child waaasn't really about that. Weirdly enough, Astral found the boy avoiding her whenever she treaded his castle while simultaneously watching her from a distance around corners.
Terra came to visit Equestria at least two to three other times after her first initial visit! While her visits couldn't be as frequent as Astral's were to the Mirrorverse, she and Astral used the Equestrian-visits to the fullest! Showing Terra more of their world, giving her a few magic lessons thanks to Sunset, and of course...some collaborative research action~ Astral can't go one scientific project without wearing a lab coat. It's like a thinking cap, allowing him to channel his inner researcher whilemakinghimfeelreallycool, shh. Naturally, it only made sense if Terra joined in on the scientific channeling. The sessions mainly contained crazy idea pitching and aimless notes for the endless possibilities of combining flora and gems and magic. Whether they really got anywhere with their combined efforts was really up in the air, but at least they had fun~
Entering their teen years, both Astral and Terra were granted part-time jobs as junior counselors at the family camp, Camp Everfree! The job mainly consisted of assisting with activities and easing the burden of keeping track of a class of kids from Terra's father Timber Spruce and aunt Gloriosa Daisy. It was around this time that Terra managed to see old photos of Sunset Shimmer back when she and Terra's mother were high schoolers. Sunset's old leather wardrobe, as well as a childhood photo of Astral wearing a tiny leather jacket, had Terra demanding that Astral bring the leather back!! Immediately!! While Astral gave in (quietly swearing he'd only wear it indoors), Aunt Gloriosa kind of just...gave him her infamous disapproving squint. Terra always seemed pretty unaffected by "the squint", but for some reason Astral always found himself wanting to duck in a corner in the face of Gloriosa's authoritative side as head Camp Counselor.
If you haven't seen the glorious scene this is based on, please do oh my gosh. Astral wasn't sure how many hours had passed in the aftermath of the apparent war Terra had waged on the ring toss booth. Astral realized that day the lengths his friend would go for her fixations. He was left feeling weirdly exhausted, but Terra's bright beam and the hop to her step as she nuzzled her plush made it all rather worth it. Twilight and Sunset always got a kick out of seeing their kids getting along and working well together...to the utmost degree.
Welcome to "I might be feeling things for my best friend but I don't want to ruin what we have so I just won't acknowledge it and cherish things as they are" the unholy novel. Neither of them ever realized the other had the exact same thought.

Impasse
Skychaser meets Astral Dusk and the two have a...”disagreement”.
Feat.  Skychaser, Astral Dusk, Dreamaria Flow, Eventide Twister
Story and Description Under The Cut
"Hey, are you writing one of your poems?" Skychaser couldn't help his curiosity. He leaned in closer to a certain younger pegasus next to him, the mare attentively focused on the notebook in her hooves. In turn, Eventide Twister quietly peered up at the stallion. The two ponies were waiting together outside of an old shop, leaning against its wall in the cool shade. The third and last member of their group had yet to arrive, which left both Skychaser and Eventide to distract themselves in the meantime. Skychaser had allowed a comfortable silence to form between them, mindful that being left alone with him made things a bit awkward for the silent mare. If there was anything Sky wanted, it was for Eventide to find a comfortable space around him, and that meant not pushing idle conversation too far. At some point he noticed Eventide pulling out a notebook from her saddlebag to scribble in it. In the half-year of knowing the pegasus, Skychaser knew that only meant she was working on one of her written pieces. He remembered how hesitant the mare had been to share them with him when he initially brought up her notebook months ago. Now Eventide was lightly nodding in response to his question, looking back down at the page after. She was still for a short moment, as if thinking, before she lifted the journal up slightly and gave him an inquiring look. Skychaser smiled and nodded eagerly. "Yeah, I'd love to read it!" Eventide allowed Skychaser to take the notebook from her. He gave Eventide one more glance, as if to make sure she really didn't mind sharing with him. The mare simply stared down at her hooves with a neutral expression, and Sky took that as his cue to not leave her waiting. Noting all of the eraser bits and erase marks on the open page, his orange eyes began to roam over the neat penmanship: These broken piano keys  And their appalling tune Fail to deter the optimist in you With a patient touch Light as a faded dream You close your eyes and play a melody
They reluctantly give way With a sound that’s harsh and jarring But you find reason to stay To sweetly convey To find the pieces That haven’t decayed Your song I replay And one day I may Betray Delay These feelings that stay Until I can say I'll willingly give way.
Skychaser perked up. "Well hey, this is really good!" The stallion rubbed the back of his neck with his free hoof. "I mean, I'm not good at deciphering fancy meanings and all of that, but this one sounds pretty." He shot Eventide a look of curiosity. "Say, I feel like you wrote a poem about a piano before too. You wouldn't happen to know how to play one, would you?" Maybe it was a jump in logic, but if Sky couldn't understand whatever deeper meaning this poem surely possessed, the least he could do was try to discuss its surface-level subject. Eventide seemed a little surprised by the question, but gave a firm nod regardless. That peaked Skychaser's interest, and he let out a chuckle. "So you're a fast flier, a poet, and a pianist?" Skychaser grinned. "Who knew you were so multi-talented, Eves~?" Eventide blinked, quickly turning her head away afterward. Sky had to restrain himself from teasing her as a bit of red dusted her cheeks. 'But I gotta say...' Sky thought to himself, giving the poem another glimpse. 'I don't know what it is, but something about this poem almost feels...romantic-' "SKY! EVE!" Sky easily located the third member of their trio, blue mane and all as she weaved around a few strolling ponies to reach them. In one easy motion, Eventide took her notebook back and slid it into her saddlebag. "I'm really sorry guys!" Dream called out as she closed the distance between them. "I need to work on waking up early-" With his hooves now free, Skychaser waited until Dream Flow was right in front of him before he reached up and took Dream's cheeks into his hooves. He squinted at her, squishing her cheeks in. "Girl you late." Instead of accepting her "punishment", Dream apparently had a different idea in mind. "Mleh-" Instinctively, Skychaser retracted his hooves as Dream stuck her tongue out to one side. Knowing exactly what she had attempted, he made sure to gasp dramatically. "Were you about to lick me?!" Dream grinned. "That's what a sister would do, riiiight~?" Skychaser playfully pouted at her, earning him a giggle. Dream Flow then turned to greet Eventide, giving her friend a sunny smile. "Hi Eve!" Eventide softly smiled back and gave a meek little wave. "Alright, so!" Dream Flow began, stepping back to address her two friends. Her eyes practically sparkled. "We're all here, so our afternoon ice cream date commences no-!" "-oAH, WHOA, LOOK OOOUT!" All three ponies jumped as a sudden crash sounded nearby. Closer than nearby. Right next to them, really. Glancing past Eventide, Skychaser could see a crumpled mess of grey feathers. The owner of said feathers, dressed in a brown uniform, laid face down in the dirt as she groaned. "Ms. Derpy Hooves?" While the crash landing had caught the attention of nearly everyone in the vicinity, the realization that it was Derpy had most of the onlookers shrug and carry on with their business. Sky almost winced, wondering how often the mare had to crash for it to become such a norm. Eventide on the other hoof immediately trotted to her boss's side and helped pull her back onto her hooves. Both Dream and Sky followed after her. "Are you okay?" Dream asked worriedly, glancing over the older mare. "You didn't hurt yourself, did y-" "EVENTIDE!" Derpy exclaimed with the utmost relief. She either ignored or didn't notice the unicorn as she threw her hooves onto her worker's shoulders, staring at her with wide, desperate eyes. "Thank GOODNESS I found you! I really need your help!" At Eventide's questioning look, Derpy continued, flustered. "You wouldn't believe it! Everypony else couldn't come in today so I'm the only one at the office! The mail truck's unloading right now and at this rate, I won't get all the mail sorted and delivered today!" Derpy dropped down to the ground and clung to Eventide's foreleg, startling the younger pegasus. "I know it's your day off, b-but if you could come in for just a few hours and help me out with sorting, I'd be sosososo grateful! I'll even pay you overtime for it! Pleeaaaase?" Sky noticed Eventide practically sweating as Derpy stared up at her with uneven puppy-dog eyes. Eve turned back to look at her friends, her uncertainty clear as day. Sky had to sympathize with her. What a way to be put on the spot, and by your boss no less. As if she had just noticed them, Derpy gasped and stood back up. Her whole body - ears, wings, and all - drooped dejectedly. "O-oh dear, do you already have plans?" Eventide turned back towards her boss, tense and hesitant. But before anything else could be said, Sky watched as Dream swooped in and threw a foreleg around Eve's shoulders. "Sorry! 'Scuse us for a second!" The unicorn turned away from the older mailmare with Eventide in tow and moved over towards Skychaser. While Sky's stare held a question, Dream answered it with a friendly smile. "Friendship huddle time!" "Friendship wha-ah!" Sky cut himself off as Dream Flow threw her free foreleg around his neck and tugged him down to her and Eventide's level. After a moment of shifting his gaze between the two mares, he raised an eyebrow at his friend. "Uuh so...why are we huddling?" Yet Dream Flow seemed to be in her own little world as she giggled quietly to herself. "I've always wanted to do something like this..." "D-Dream, focus." "I am focused!" Dream Flow tilted her head to look at him. "Eve deserves extra time to think without being pressured, or else she'll make a rushed decision and end up thinking about this for the rest of the day!" She angled her head to Eventide then, who appeared equally as confused as Sky felt. Smiling gently, the unicorn mare continued. "You could agree that you already made plans. Or you could go with her if that's what you want. We won't mind either way!" Overflowing with optimism and determination, Dream Flow drew the foreleg that was around Sky away and gave a confident hoof-pump for her friend. "Just be honest with yourself and your feelings! Go with what your gut is leaning towards so you won't have any regrets!" Her eyes crinkling merrily, Dream tipped her head to one side. "Okay~?" It was amusing for the stallion to see Dream talk like a motivational speaker. He wondered what she knew about Eventide or what she had sensed to draw out such a speech. It seemed to do it's job, however, as Eventide appeared less troubled than she was moments before. Instead, she stared down quietly in thought. Both Dream and Sky patiently waited for her, giving her whatever time she needed to contemplate. In due time Eventide pulled away from her friends, turning to face the older mare who was grunting and struggling to preen the messy feathers out of her reach. Realizing her employee was looking at her, Derpy Hooves straightened her back and smiled sheepishly. "Um?" "Fewhours?" Derpy's ears shot up. While Eventide's inquiry surprised the grey mare, hope began brimming in her eyes. "MHM! Yeah! Just enough to lessen the workload!" "...okay." Derpy Hooves released an elated squee and once again threw herself at Eventide's foreleg, nuzzling it. "Oh, thank you, thank you! You're the absolute BEST Eventide! I ought to put your picture up and make you employee of the month!" 'Mailponies have employees of the month?' That aside, Sky couldn't be surprised that Eventide would choose to help. While Derpy exchanged a few more words with her employee before soaring off, Eventide turned back to Dream Flow and Skychaser, appearing apologetic. "...sorry." "Don't be!" Sky reassured. "You do what you have to do!" "Sky and I will probably be wandering around the shops by the time you're done, so just find us and we can get even more ice cream later!" Dream happily clapped her hooves together. "Good luck, Evie~!" Eventide appeared to relax, her smile warm as she dipped her head to Dream Flow. Waving their friend off, the two remaining ponies watched as Eve flapped her wings and followed after her employer. -------------------------------------------------------- Dream Flow and Skychaser walked through Ponyville's bustling streets, both keeping an eye out for Sugarsocks' wandering ice cream cart. Sky noted how Dream had an extra bounce to her step and was humming as she eagerly glanced around. He laughed. "Honestly, what is with you and ice cream?" He raised an eyebrow. "You're always suggesting we get some. I'm starting to think you're addicted to the stuff." "But it's so good!" Dream insisted, turning so she could walk backwards and face the stallion. Her colorful eyes shimmered, as if the very thought of the treat brought her joy. "My hometown's really old-fashioned and the closest thing they have are maple snow cones in winter." She sighed with a smile. "And it doesn't compare to the sheer variety you guys get to have!" Skychaser smirked. "You mean our classic flavors like 'white chocolate' and 'pink chocolate'?" Ah yes. He remembered their first ice cream outing. Emotionally intelligent and professional counselor Dream Flow not recognizing flavors like vanilla and strawberry was something he couldn't let go or let her live down. "Hey!" Dream used her magic to playfully flick the stallion's bangs, bringing forth a laugh out of him. "I told you I never got out of my town much, you can't blame me for getting the flavors wrong!" She laughed heartily with him. "Like, strawberries are red, how was I supposed to know pink ice cream was..." Dream suddenly trailed off. Her eyes unfocused, as if something unseen had caught her attention. Before Sky could ask what was wrong, the mare stopped in her tracks and turned herself around. And just as she did, Skychaser found himself jerking to a halt beside her. The pony that had rounded the corner of the building they were passing had to do the same as the three almost collided with each other. While the question of Dream's behavior sat in his mind, Sky was temporarily distracted by the earth pony stallion now standing before him. He wore a white lab coat, and his layered blonde, red, and and purple mane was almost endearingly messy in the back. Skychaser noticed how exhausted and tight the stallion's expression appeared, though, accented further by the dark eye bags under his eyes. It was easy to say he stuck out like a sore hoof. And yet... 'Well hello there. Never seen this guy before...' Sky put on his best charming smile, ready to apologize for the inconvenience. But just as he was about to, the other stallion took one look at Dream Flow and something flashed across his face, his expression shifting into a sour one. Confused, Sky followed his line of sight. He noticed the way Dream's ears were pinned back, and for the first time, he watched as a strained smile formed on her muzzle. "Oh. Hey Astral-" "Hmph." The stallion shot Dream Flow an icy look and proceeded to quickly and wordlessly push past the mare. His shoulder was close to shoving against hers had she not stepped closer to Skychaser, who steadied her with his hooves. 'The hell?' Sky stared after the retreating earth pony, once again peering down at Dream to find her watching the stallion expressionlessly.   "The heck was that about?" Sky finally asked, taking a step back to get a good look at the mare. Dream released a nervous laugh. "Just...Eventide's brother. Astral Dusk." Sky's head pulled back at that, baffled. "Seriously? I didn't even know she had one." He paused, noticing the way Dream was staring downward. "Well yeesh, did something happen between you two? He was pretty...unfriendly." "It's...kind of my fault." Dream lifted her eyes, smiling sadly. "When I first met him, he...seemed like somepony who really needed a friend. So I wanted to befriend him like I did with Eventide, and I was hoping I could help him open up. But I think I made things worse..." She exhaled deeply. "Once he learned about my talent, he shut me out and has been...hostile since." Sky's eyebrows furrowed. "But why?" Another first. He didn't miss the hesitance on Dream's face. "...h-hey, let's just forget about it. Today's supposed to be a fun day, right?" Dream laughed again. "This is kind of a downer!" "I mean...I guess." As much as he wanted to push his questions, it didn't take a genius to see that the mare wanted to change the subject. The two trotted on, eventually catching the sound of Sugarsocks' bell-ringing. And yet that subtle and easy to miss look of hurt that had flickered across Dream's face occupied his mind and refused to sit with him. He didn't really care what reason this stallion had. The way he had acted towards his friend, and the way he was making her feel, was something Sky couldn't seem to let go. The moment Skychaser saw the ice cream line and how long it was, the pegasus felt he had an opportunity before him. "Hey Dreamers, can you wait in line for the both of us? I kiiiinda need to find a bathroom." He hummed uncomfortably, bouncing in place once. "Like, real bad." "Oh! Um," Dream Flow looked around. "I'm not sure where the nearest one is-" "I think I saw one somewhere back where we came from!" he pointed his hoof behind him. "I'll be back, but if I'm late then just get me the usual!" After handing her his share of gold bits, Sky rushed off towards his "destination". In reality, the moment Sky was out of Dream Flow's sight, the stallion began his secret mission. 'Time to make like Miss Pinkie Pie in spy mode.' He tip-toed close to buildings and scooted behind bushes, sticking out his head every so often to scan each area for a certain brown stallion. There was no way he could miss the earth pony. And he was right. A few streets away from the ice cream stand, Sky located Astral at the edge of the shopping square. He was slowly walking around and looking at the different fruit carts with that same calm yet tight expression. Once he settled on buying an apple, Astral began wandering away from the shops. Humming, forming a makeshift plan in his mind, Sky proceeded to tail the taller stallion. As the buildings thinned out and more trees and bushes surrounded him, Sky made sure to be careful of his hooffalls on the grass. He was glad that the path they were on was secluded and further away from other ponies, giving Sky a chance to talk to the stallion one-on-one. But he had to wonder, where exactly was Astral going- "Why are you still following me?" Sky nearly leapt when Astral Dusk turned half-way around, glaring at the very bush he was hiding behind. 'Whoops...' Apparently he underestimated how perceptive the tired-looking pony was. Awkwardly, Skychaser stepped around the bush and into the open. While he took a moment to blow a leaf out of his hair, he did his best to stand firmly as he faced the stallion. Astral's teal eyes hardened at the sight of him. "Don't you think there's something slightly wrong with stalking somepony, Sky? Honestly. What could you possibly want?" 'Huh?' Skychaser blinked, caught off guard. But not so much by the accusation. "You know my name?" Astral went quiet, his expression flat and unreadable. Skychaser pondered the possibility of Eventide telling her brother about him. Still, that didn't quite explain the earth pony being so casual as to use his nickname upon meeting him. The stallion didn't exactly seem the type. With a frustrated huff, Astral shook his head and shot a look of annoyance at him, as if the answer were obvious. "I'm one of Ponyville's royal scientists. I work in Princess Twilight's castle. Of course I know about most everyone in this town." Sky stared at the stallion dubiously That answer was rather...vague. Astral sternly stared back regardless. "Don't make me repeat myself. What do you want so badly that you'd follow me this far?" "I mean...maybe you didn't see me, but I was there with Dream Flow." Skychaser paused, to gauge any sort of reaction from the other stallion. Astral's eyelids drooped, but he said nothing. "She's my friend. And your sister's friend-" "I'm aware." Astral barely batted an eye. Sky felt his eyebrows furrow. "Well, maybe you're not aware that you're hurting her with how you're acting around her. The way you almost shoved past her earlier didn't exactly help." Skychaser wasn't completely sure what he wanted to accomplish here. All he knew was that he felt a need to do something, anything to stand up for the kind unicorn who stuck by him. This was especially the case in what felt like unfair, nonsensical judgement. What sense was there in behaving like this over a talent, and one like Dream's no less? It made no sense to him. "....you really came all the way here just to tell me that." Irritated, Astral quietly scoffed, muttering to himself. "Stupidly persistent..." Frowning deeply, Sky pressed on. "So you don't care...then I want to know; what do you even have against Dream?" Astral eyed him. "...you're not going to leave unless I tell you." It wasn't a question. He stated it as if he knew with certainty that would be the case. And he wasn't wrong. Sky simply nodded in confirmation. There was a period of silence where the two stallions stared at one another, waiting. "...I don't like a pony who plays the friendly and selfless card just so she can get into your business." Sky jerked his head back, his brows pulling inward in confusion. "Wha-" "And I especially don't like a pony who expects you to rely on her because she thinks her special little talent is the answer to all of your problems." Astral finished, a look of distaste crossing his face. "There. Is that what you wanted to hear?" Taking a step forward, Skychaser glared at the stallion. "Literally what are you talking about? Her magic helps ponies." "And I think it's invasive and creepy. Agree to disagree." A flicker of anger ignited within the pegasus, and he released a low growl. "What, so you're just going to ignore the fact that she's been helping your sister-?" "Great. Good for her. Doesn't mean I want that mare anywhere near me." Sky's shot a puzzled look at the stallion. Astral thought Dream was in it purely to be nosy, but was fine with her helping Eventide? He even acknowledged she was helping? Or...did he not care about his sister? Astral huffed to himself. "Besides...I won't trust anyone that I can't properly read." "Read?" That drew out a short laugh from Skychaser. Compared to a lot of ponies, Dream Flow was one of the most expressive and open that he knew. "Okay, now I know you're just being paranoid. That filly's practically an open book." "Right. Trust the one who's constantly smiling." Sky's amusement faded out. "...what does that mean?" "Ugh..." Astral glowered at the pegasus. "Why don't you use your own brain for once? If I really have to explain it to you, then I guess you're just as ignorant as you look." Skychaser bristled. He lifted his head high, leveling his glare. "Huh. So I'm guessing you just have some awful habit of assuming you know ponies. Is that it?" With a humorless snort, Astral looked off to the side indifferently. "Who knows." Upon looking back over at Sky, the pegasus noticed Astral's eyes flick to something past him, his expression once again souring. "Speaking of creepy...had fun eavesdropping?" Eyebrows shooting up, Sky whirled around to find Dream Flow slowly approaching, two ice cream cups floating beside her within her magic's hold. She stopped a few feet away and gazed at the stallions quietly, her expression troubled. "I was...looking for Sky, and-" "Turn that off." At the sound of his commanding voice, Sky returned his attention to Astral. The stallion's eyes were narrowed dangerously at the sight of Dream's glowing horn. When Dream failed to react right away, Astral's lip curled back and he snapped, raising his voice. "Turn your magic off!" Whipping his head, Sky caught Dream jolt at Astral's voice. To his shock she hurriedly - even shakily - moved to place the cups on the ground. "Wh- no! You don't have to listen to him! Dream!" Her magic had already flickered out, however, once she had ensured the cups were lowered. She stood there tensely, peering up through her bangs for just a split second before quickly averting her eyes again. "I'm sorry." "Hmph...at least you have some decency." That was it. Disgust and rage flared inside Skychaser, his feathers standing on end along his neck and back. In seconds he was storming towards the other stallion with a snarl. "The hell is your problem?!" He heard a soft gasp behind him, as well as a strange sound. When he was just feet away from Astral, suddenly there was an orange flash of magic next to him as Dream teleported beside him. She quickly grabbed at his shoulder with one of her hooves. Her voice was even yet insistent as she spoke to him. "Skychaser." He stopped in his tracks, if only because he would never think to shove her away. But Sky refused to drop eye contact with Astral. "This guy needs someone to tell him off." "No, Sky...I'd never want you to be angry in my place." Something about her tone led him to break eye contact to look at her instead. Next to him, Dream was pressing her hoof firmly against his shoulder, her eyes urgent and pleading. "Please...?" Sky searched her face. Something about the softness of that word was cooling down his temper, his anger finding a way to slowly fizzle down. Guilt began taking its place, realizing he had allowed aggression and old dangerous habits to overtake him. Sky's ear flicked as a low, dry chuckle met his ears. Before him, a small, wry smile pulled at Astral's mouth. "Well...good to see the guard dog's been leashed." Skychaser could feel himself boiling again. Though this time, it was from irritation. 'Now he's just downright taunting me...why?' Sky didn't have time to get the question out. He was caught off guard as Dream stepped forward, just enough to gain the scientist's attention. Her voice was light yet firm as she spoke. "Astral...you don't have to like me or my talent. But we don't have to dislike each other either." Offering a good-natured smile, she placed a hoof on her chest. "We won't bother you, I promise. So let's drop this negativity and head our separate ways." Skychaser couldn't guess how the earth pony was going to take that. Astral eyed her sharply, and didn't respond right away. Then, his eyelids drooped, as if worn by the exchange. "...whatever. I don't care." And that was that. Without another word, the researcher turned and strode away. “Sure you don’t buddy....” Sky muttered, only to feel a hoof gently touch his shoulder again. “It's okay. Let him go." “I'm sorry, but what an actual ass." He growled, now that the other stallion was out of their radius.  "He’s going to get slapped by somepony one day, I just know it.” Dream smiled kindly. "Maybe. Hopefully he'll pull himself together before that happens?" Sky stared at Dream for that response. Now more than ever he was baffled. "Dream...how are you not angry?" It was true that he had never seen what the mare's anger looked like. But for Astral to treat her so severely, only for her to wish the stallion well? The unicorn hummed. "It's not exactly my favorite emotion. And it's not one I really experience." Dream Flow jumped to her hooves then, smiling bright. "With that said, come on! This whole thing with Astral isn't worth your anger!" He could tell she was trying to lift the mood as she playfully nudged him with her flank so he would stand up with her. Normally he'd let her, content with being distracted from negativity, but... There was also a difference between lifting the mood and trying to pretend it wasn't there. "Maybe, but...I can't really help feeling the way I do. Right?" Sky sighed, rubbing his foreleg roughly. "I'm sure it'll die down later, but right now, I can't help being angry after all of that. I can't exactly make that feeling go away. You know?" At Dream's silence, Sky curiously looked up to find her staring back at him with a stunned expression. "...you're right." While guilt flickered across her face, it was replaced by an apologetic smile as she lowered her head. "I'm sorry...that was insensitive. Of course you should vent and let your feelings run their course." "H-hey, it's alright." Sky extended a wing a patted his friend on the back. In that moment, he remembered. Dream could sense his negativity even with her magic inactive, couldn't she? 'That's probably how she knew Astral was nearby earlier...I'm sure he's a walking cloud of it. She must be worried.' Sky breathed in deeply before exhaling, hoping to relieve at least most of that angry flare within him. "So...is that why you ended our conversation earlier? Because you knew I wouldn't react well if I knew everything?" Dream smiled weakly at him. "That's part of it. I should've been more honest about that, huh? The last thing I wanted was for it to negatively affect you. But I never expected you to confront him like that." Skychaser winced. "Yeah...s-sorry I lied and snuck off behind your back." He rubbed the back of his head. "It was dumb. I really didn't think that whole thing through." Dream affectionately bumped her head against his shoulder. "I think your big bro senses kicked in, sooo I can't fault you too much~" The two ponies chuckled together, and thankfully the warmth was helping to relieve the anger still churning in his chest. Though, one more question did come to mind.... "You said 'part of it', right?" Sky inquired curiously. "What was the other reason?" Once more, a silence descended upon the duo, a contemplative look on Dream's face. "I...know more than I should." "Huh?" Dream turned her head, looking out towards where Astral had retreated. "I know more about Astral's feelings than he wants me to know. I think it's why he's acting as aggressive as he is, especially towards me." "Huh..." Sky mumbled thoughtfully. It made sense. She of all ponies would be able to understand whatever mess of emotions was inside such an unpleasant pony. Even now, Sky was at a loss when it came to whatever logic Astral had attempted to spout out. "So...what IS his deal then?" Dream's smile softened. "Sorry Sky. I can't really say." "Can't?" The stallion frowned. "Is this about that whole 'confidentiality' thing? He's not one of your clients, so-" Dream shook her head. "It's not about confidentiality. It's about respecting his feelings." Something sad crept into Dream's expression, yet her smile remained. "Astral wasn't completely wrong. My magic can be invasive to a degree." The mare gazed down at her hooves, gently running one against the sand below her. "My magic can never be turned off completely, you know? I'm constantly reading ponies without meaning to, whether it's feeling a negative shift or downright getting a glimpse at their emotions just because my horn is active. So it's not fair for me to share that information, unless they consent or it's detrimental. Thank goodness the latter's never happened." Dream Flow straightened, catching Sky's eyes with her own. There was something gentle yet resolute there. "But I want you to understand that my intent is never to...'get into somepony's business'. For me, whenever someone seems lost or has some internalized negativity, I just can't help but feel inclined to aid them if they let me." Sky watched as the unicorn placed her hooves over her chest where her heart would be, closing her eyes peacefully. "My magic is meant to help others, and cultivate happiness. That's my destiny, and I believe in it. Even if there are ponies who think like Astral, I don't want to be discouraged. I truly, honestly want to devote myself to this in every way I can." "Dream Flow..." Opening her eyes, the mare grinned at him sheepishly "In fact, it's why I moved to Ponyville! To broaden my world and for a whole new beginning." Skychaser nodded as he listened with interest. He never knew the full extent of Dream's feelings on her own abilities. Somehow it never even crossed his mind to ask her what it was like, or even what drove her. At least now he had the chance. And maybe it could serve as a good distraction for them both. "That's seriously really cool, Dream..." He tilted his head. "But what did you mean by 'cultivate happiness'?" Dream Flow's eyes seemed to light up at the question. "OH, yes! Stop me if this is hard to follow, but um," Dream lifted her hooves, gesturing them about as she spoke. "You see, happiness may be a fleeting emotion, but it’s a vital part of harmony when you think about it, right? And harmony is ponykind’s ideal, so happiness is ponykind’s ideal too!" "'Ideal'?" "Yeah! Like, it's what ponykind as a society aims and wishes for. Equestria is called the 'Land of Harmony,' after all!" Dream nodded to herself with certainty. "So with that ideal being so important to everyone, I want to do my part in helping anypony that I can reach a place where they can work towards their ideal state of happiness! In my case, sorting out and analyzing emotions is that first step~" ...Skychaser wasn't sure he completely understood this talk of ideals. But the way Dream seemed so driven by her beliefs was all he needed to understand how important it was to her. Once his friend had finished gushing, Skychaser smiled tenderly. "Well I for one think that's admirable." Dream Flow let out a shy laugh, rubbing her foreleg. "Gee, thanks...I never told anyone about that before. I'm so glad you don't think it's strange." Throwing his wing fully around Dream, he pulled the mare into a fond side hug. "Psh naw, never Dreamers~" 'But huh...guess there's way more to learn about Dreamy than I thought.' Pulling away, Dream Flow shook her hindquarters of any dirt and turned towards the abandoned treat cups. Even from a distance she was able to engulf the cups with her magic aura and have them float over to them. She tilted them forward to inspect them closely. "A little melted, but...salvageable!" Dream handed the appropriate cup over to Skychaser, who balanced it on a wing. "Heh, guess we got lucky~ But even if we didn't, we were gonna get more with Eventide later anyway." 'Speaking of Eventide...' Although hesitant for a few seconds, Skychaser chose to speak his mind and glanced over at his companion. "Hey does she...know? About her brother and whatever's going on I mean." Dream's expression softened. "Eventide and Astral don't really talk, so I can't say if she knows what's going on with him personally. But I haven't told her about any of this, and I'm not really planning to." Sky was a little taken aback by that. "Really? I mean, shouldn't she know?" "She already has so much to deal with. I don't want to put this on her and make her feel responsible for his actions, especially because they aren't close in the first place." 'I guess that makes sense.' Dream gave a long, cat-like stretch before she bounced back up onto her hooves. Her energy seemed to return to her as she faced him with her usual cheer "And hey, it really isn't a big deal to me anyway! I'd rather Astral be honest with me about how he really feels than to pretend to like me, you know?" She beamed up at her friend. "So try not to worry about it too much! As long as we respect his space, everything should be fine!" Skychaser had a feeling he'd never be able to follow that level of positive thinking. Even as somepony who tried to keep things fun and light-hearted, he was pretty sure Dream Flow was on a whole other level. Nothing seemed to get her down. In fact, in all the time he'd spent with her, he couldn't recall ever hearing her complain. 'It's like optimism drives her whole being...geez. Guess she's the type to refuse to let negativity get to her. That's...pretty incredible.' He personally didn't think he'd be forgiving the 'royal scientist' anytime soon. But in the end, for the sake of letting Dream move past this, Skychaser smiled back. He decided to take the first step back towards the town's square, keeping stride with his friend's hoofsteps as she followed. "If you say so, Dreamers. I'll do my best."  ____________________________________________________________

Mailmares
Feat. Eventide Twister
"Wowzers, looky you! I knew you were the mare for the job! Ehehe~~"
"...." *nods*
Eve's self-conscious, but well, a job's a job.
Unfortunately by the time Eve finished basic schooling, her struggle with anxiety had taken up so much of her emotional and mental health that she had yet to figure out what she wanted to do with her life. Even with her fast-flying talent, not a single suggestion related to her talent - trying for the Wonderbolts being a common one - struck a chord in her. It didn't help that despite her medication and poetry therapy helping with her more severe anxiety symptoms, Eve's internalized distaste for her own voice stayed as she struggled with emotional expression and just about anything social. She could blame it on her deep-seeded insecurities, as well as her newfound sense of caution and emotional distance from others. And yet, despite this, a certain mare managed to catch a glimpse of what Eve was capable of with her speed and took GREAT interest. Derpaline Hooves, AKA lovable local muffin-lovin head-mailmare Derpy, was eager to tumble into Eve's path and excitedly recruit her to join Ponyville's Post Office workforce! Eve naturally was nervous, but with encouragement from her parents to give it a shot, Eve accepted the position. Derpy loves her new mailmare, and while she can sometimes awkwardly forget that Eventide isn't much of a talker, the sweet mare never forces her employee to speak and tries to work with her.
Eve has proven herself to be one of Ponyville's best mailmare's. She delivers local mail and packages quickly and efficiently, to the point that her mail rounds are quite timely and a pony can usually expect when she'll pass by each day (outside of busier holiday seasons).
Thanks to the nature of her job, Eve usually doesn't have to worry about conversing and resorts to one or two-worded answers for the sake of work when necessary. Meanwhile, being a mailmare has also led most of Ponyville to become familiar with her face and, of course, her silence. Most citizens have come to accept her rare speech and social avoidance as a norm, chalking it all up to simple shyness in her case. It's an assumption and simplification that bothers her, but well, the concept of anxiety seems to be elusive for some ponies. Ponyville citizens are friendly to her regardless, though deep down, she feels they must find her unpleasant. Her everyday routine, doing her rounds and being politely greeted and left to her own devices by townsfolk, became comfortable...yet lonely.

Ponyville’s mailmare Eventide Twister meets an unusual new resident in town.
Feat.  Eventide Twister,  Dreamaria Flow
Story and Description Under The Cut
In the messy backroom of Ponyville's own Post Office, Eventide Twister reached into one of the wooden mail cubbies lining the wall and slid the last few envelopes into her mail saddlebag. A press of her hoof and soon the bag's flap was snapping in place. With the delivery truck having already departed and her coworkers now on lunch after the sorting, it was finally time for her usual daily mail rounds. Giving the cubbies one last glance over, Eventide pushed through the room's door and flew into the main lobby of the building. There, behind the front desk to her immediate right, a merry pegasus mare stared almost unblinkingly at the entrance door. A smile was plastered on her muzzle as she waited for any residents to enter. Only when the door behind Eventide creaked as it closed did the blonde mare turn to look at her. "Oooh, heading out~?" Derpy Hooves asked with her soft and floaty voice, perking up at the sight of her employee. She clapped her hooves excitedly. "Have fun, Eventide!" Eventide never quite understood that well-wish of hers. Perhaps the mare assumed Eve's quick wings made her task more entertaining. Dipping her head in farewell, Eve flew forward to exit out of the front door as usual- "AAH WAIT, I ALMOST FORGOT!" The outburst caused Eventide to jump, nearly crashing into the door in her surprise. With a frown, the young pegasus landed on the floor and turned to shoot her boss an inquiring glance. Derpy rummaged through the papers under her counter, muttering inaudible things as she seemed to search for something. As she threw unrelated papers onto the desk, naturally a few strays scattered and fell. Quietly, Eventide walked over to to grab the sheets where they landed. Ms. Derpy had a bad tendency to misplace things. The last thing Eve wanted was for her boss to lose an especially important note or document. Eventide neatly placed Derpy's stray papers onto the countertop just as the older mare let out an 'aha!', pridefully whipping out an envelope. "Here it is! Um..." Derpy immediately pulled the envelope straight to her face, hovering it centimeters before her eyes. Squinting, Derpy mumbled to herself as she read. "Mmnnmm...RIGHT! We have a new address to deliver to!” Derpy lifted her head from the paper to beam at Eventide.  “Oh goody! Somepony new moved in!" 'New address?' A few months had passed since anypony new had moved in. She supposed the new year could bring about new residents. The slightest bit of unease prickled in her, however. A new resident only meant another pony she would inevitably have to meet, due to the nature of her job. Pushing that thought away, Eventide found it rather curious that Derpy had the envelope separated from the rest of the mail. With the mail being organized by house number, it wouldn't have taken long for her to realize a different number had appeared in her bag. "And somepony sent our new resident mail with special instructions!" Derpy continued, her irises shifting unevenly. "I set it to the side so I could make sure you knew! And so I wouldn't forget, eheheh!” ...Eventide knew that probably hadn't been the best idea, but her employer meant well. "Anyway! Here!" Derpy chirped, shoving the envelope towards Eventide's face. Without missing a beat, Eve pulled her head back just before the mare could accidentally smack her face with her grey wing. Taking the letter into her own wing, Eventide turned it to scan the face for herself. A special large label was there, listing not only names and addresses, but the instructions Derpy had mentioned: From: Serein Paleo To: Dreamaria Flow Instructions: "Please deliver to the recipient personally. If she doesn't answer her door, leave a pickup notice and bring back to office." Reading the label was a little surprising. Directions of this sort were typically for packages. These instructions gave Eve the impression that the sender had worried about their letter not reaching the receiver. Granted, seeing as her boss had almost forgotten it under her desk, those concerns weren't entirely unfounded. It was almost as if the sender knew someone in their office could potentially misplace it. Tucking the letter into her satchel, Eventide once again dipped her head before flying for the door. Hearing Derpy's bubbly giggles, the young pegasus glanced back one more time to see the sweet older mare enthusiastically waving both arms at her. "Have fun out theeeereeee!!" This time, Eventide smiled at the sentiment. At the end of the day it was a genuine one, and the mare would always appreciate that from her boss. After giving her own wave, Eventide sped out of the door and into Ponyville's clear skies. -------------------------------------
As Eventide whizzed through the air, she practically found herself on auto-pilot as she effortlessly flew from one house's mailbox to the next. Even after only seven months, Eventide' s job had become a mindless routine. Sort the mail, deliver it, head home; rinse and repeat. The Hearth's Warming season had been rough, but aside from that? Her work was straight-forward, despite the few bumps often caused by her boss's clumsiness. She was ungrateful or even bored. Eventide was good at what she did, and she was glad that despite how she was, she had managed to land herself a job. Thanks to her work, at least she could prove to her family that she wasn't a complete waste. Yet there were times where she wondered if this was how her day-to-day life would continue to be; empty. Blurring. Nothing stirred her anymore. Nothing excited her, and if she really thought about it, rarely did she ever look forward to anything. Sometimes Eventide wondered why that was the case, when she was putting her talent to use like everypony around her. After all the work she and her parents did to pull herself back together, why did she still feel like such a pitiful excuse? Watching the ponies below her gave her an answer. Their groups, the laughter, and the effortless chatter. A familiar lingering emptiness made itself known once more at the sight. It reminded her of lost days and made her wish she could just be happy and...functional, like everyone else. Left alone with her thoughts, it was times like this she wanted to think back on those days years ago and let that anguish-turned-bitterness wash over her. Because if those things hadn’t happened, she could be normal. A normal pony in her town, and a normal daughter for her parents. Eventide shook her head hard in her effort to clear it. She still had a job to complete, as well as a day to finish. At the very least, small changes to her everyday routine helped her mind refocus on the present instead of her negative inner voice. Landing, Eventide pulled out the letter Derpy had handed her, rechecking the house number displayed on the envelope. 'House 201...' As she expected, the newly inhabited building was closer to the outer edge of town. It was in the area Princess Twilight had funded construction in when Ponyville's population rose and the mayor settled on a town expansion. The houses here were a bit more spaced apart. While they weren't as big as the structures at the center of town, Eventide thought they all looked modern and comfortable. Locating the number, Eventide found the corresponding mailbox attached to a white and cream colored house, completed with an orange tiled roof. Approaching the white door, the pegasus gave it a few knocks before waiting. From the corner of her eye the curtain of the nearby window moved, though before she could catch a glimpse, the pony on the other side disappeared. Eventide shifted uncomfortably. The last time somepony had moved in, it took several weeks before she had met them face-to-face. Not to mention said pony ignored her from that moment onwards, after their initial awkward meeting. Eventide wished she didn't know what to expect this time, but then she would be lying. She just had to persevere, she guessed. The door opened before her and Eventide stood alert, ready to face Ponyville's new inhabitant. To her surprise, a blue unicorn mare that couldn't be any older than her peered out with wide, curious eyes. If the mare's two-toned irises hadn't caught her attention, then her wonder-filled expression certainly did. "Are you my mailmare?" Giving a nod in response, Eventide watched as the unicorn suddenly appeared delighted, clapping her hooves together. "Wonderful! My name's Dream Flow! It's so very nice to meet you!" As Dream Flow beamed at her, Eventide wasn't sure whether to be relieved or nervous that the mare was of the friendly type. That and Eve had never seen anypony this excited to meet their mailmare before. Eve managed a faint smile, bowing her head in polite greeting. As she straightened, she realized Dream Flow was smiling expectantly at her. 'Ah, right.' Eventide unfurled her wing to present the envelope to the mare. Curiously enough, Dream blinked at it.  "Oh, yes! Thank you!" An orange magical aura enveloped both Dream Flow's horn and the letter as she took it from the pegasus. But even then, the friendly mare's eyes stayed focused on Eventide. Dream Flow tipped her head to one side. "So what's your name~?" Luckily, this wasn't the first time Eventide had to respond to this question. It wasn't like she could rudely leave it unanswered. "Eve." At least with her nickname, she didn't have to repeat her mouthful of a name. It wasn't an easy one to remember anyway, so she figured there was no point in sharing it. Dream hummed cheerfully in response. "So how's your day been, Eve~? I hope it's been a good one!" That familiar unease grew within her. This always had to be the dreaded question that outed her. "Mhmm." She hummed back, including a nod and hoping it would make up for her lack of words. Nervousness crept into her anyway, the feeling doubling as Dream seemed to pause, the seconds passing between them. With a small frown forming on the mare's muzzle, a part of Eventide grew anxious. She could imagine how rude she was appearing, or how uncomfortable the growing silence had to be. But even as her mind considered adding in more words, to recover this exchange with somepony she was meant to be serving, it was like a section of her brain refused to transfer the words to her mouth. Like others before Dream, Eventide expected the unicorn to question her or awkwardly back out of the exchange. What Eventide didn't expect, however, was the patient, calming smile that pulled on the mare's muzzle instead. "Good to know!" Dream Flow declared. "You look like you're working hard~ I'm sure your job is tiring, so I appreciate what you do!" Eventide tensed, anticipating the mare to make the mistake of attempting to push the conversation. Instead Dreamaria glanced behind her at the unpacked moving boxes in her living room. "Well hey, I shouldn't keep you from your work and I should get back to unpacking!" Taking a few steps back into her house, Dream gave a playful small salute to Eventide. "Thanks again for my letter~! I'll see you then!" With that, the door closed. And while Eventide took off into the air, leaving the new residence behind her, she took her time to steady herself and refocus. She couldn't completely take her mind off of the exchange, however. There was no initial surprise, confusion, or discomfort. There wasn't even an attempt to pull her into conversation, like some ponies who once believed they could be the one to "make Eve talk". It was almost as if the mare had noticed she was nervous. That wouldn't be as surprising if Eventide hadn't grown accustomed to appearing as calm as possible whenever her nerves and anxieties bubbled up to the surface. Perhaps her feelings had shown, anyway. Or perhaps this friendly newcomer was simply good at reading ponies. ------------------------------------- Dreamaria Flow was a unique case. After a month of deliveries, Eventide noticed that the new mare received two letters per week from Mr. Paleo - her uncle, Dream had informed her. And from that first day onward, the mailmare didn't even have to knock on Dreamaria's door anymore. Every time she landed at Dream Flow's doorstep, Dreamaria would without fail answer the door only seconds later. Eventide would always hear the telltale clacking of her hooves approaching before the blue unicorn would open the door, offering cheerful greetings. What Eventide couldn't understand was how Dream Flow always seemed to know exactly when she was present. It wasn't like Eventide was a noisy flier, and Dream's curtains were always drawn closed. Not only that, but even after Mr. Paleo stopped including special instructions to his envelopes, Dream Flow still came to her door instead of letting Eventide leave the letters in her mailbox. The unicorn could easily grab her mail once Eventide had flown away, so Eve couldn't imagine why Dream would go through the trouble. If Eve could drop off the letter, then at least Dreamaria wouldn't have to keep up her friendly pleasantries and polite question of whether the mailmare's day was going well. Dream wouldn't have to waste her energy and force herself to keep the one-sided conversation going at all. If she thought about it, Dreamaria could be like her uncle in the sense that she wanted to make sure her letter didn't get lost. Eventide believed that kind of worry was understandable. She’d be the same way if her own parents had to write her letters and there was a risk of one never arriving. Regardless, Eventide tried to distance herself from her pondering. It wouldn't be long before the mare would eventually get used to their routine and trust Eventide's ability to deliver. She would have to grow tired of her mailmare's silence at some point and come to prefer the company of friendlier residents much like the unicorn herself. And for Eventide, those thoughts weren't an attempt at being melodramatic. It was the usual progression of things, and something she had long accepted. She wasn't exactly a pleasant pony to attempt conversation with. She knew that. While silence brought comfort and safety, she knew it was no different from self-isolation in such a social-heavy world. And speaking...well, every extra word spoken felt like a dangerous gamble. There was no winning either way, but it was clear what she would choose if it meant never experiencing that day ever again. Never again would she embarrass herself or have her own words be used against her. It was better for her and everyone this way. Eventide huffed, her mind honing back in on the ground below. Another downward spiral of her thoughts. Flying mindlessly and giving her brain a chance to think truly was a bother. Thankfully, a certain blue mare's house was directly below her.  Eventide flapped her wings a few times as she descended to Dreamaria's doorstep, easily slowing down before lowering herself to the ground. Pulling the letter out of her satchel, she stared at the door, waiting. It took a few more beats of silence before Eve realized there was no sign of movement from within the house. 'Oh.' While she was a little surprised by the break of routine, it was, as she had thought, to be expected eventually. Dream could be out in town, or even leaving Eventide to her job. It wasn't a hard thing to shrug off as Eve opened the cover of Dreamaria's mailbox for the first time, dropping the letter inside. How odd, though. A part of her had almost expected something more gradual. Eventide turned to leave- "-aaaaAAAAIT, WAIT, HOLD ON!" Various distant sounds of falling objects, crashes, and yelps reached Eventide's twitching ears as clumsy hoofsteps grew louder and raced towards the door. Eventide stared behind her wide-eyed until the door finally swung open. Before her Dreamaria stood panting, wide-eyed and appearing rather disheveled. Her mane was a mess, unbrushed and giving Eve the impression that the unicorn had literally fallen out of bed recently. Eventide would have pondered over the fact that it was well into the afternoon, but it wasn't like she herself hadn't slept into the late hours in the past. Besides, settling into a new town had to be a tiring process. "Sorry, hi! I woke up late!" Dream laughed, attempting to brush back her messy blue locks with both hooves. "Good thing I sensed you when I did!" 'Sense?' Although curious, Eventide brushed the comment off. More importantly, was the mare so worried about getting her letter that she would outright run to her door? Did she think the mailmare would walk off with it? Even more bewildering, Eventide didn't have to say anything about the envelope before Dream's magic aura shone around her white horn, the unicorn pulling her uncle's letter out of the mailbox. So she had even known that the letter had been dropped off. 'Then why did she stop me...?' Suddenly Dream settled her multi-colored gaze onto the mailmare, a sheepish smile crossing her face. "Was that weird...? Sorry, I just really like seeing you!" Dream's smile shifted into a sunny one. "You've become a normal part of my new life here! And it's nice to have that normality!" Dreamaria then placed the back of one hoof on a hip, swinging her opposite arm in an arc in front of her as she winked. "Besides! I think you are, as one would say, 'quite swell'!" Eventide could only stare blankly, confused and unsure of how to react. Dream Flow seemed to pick up on this, because after a period of silence, her confidence seemed to falter as she nervously laughed, dropping the pose to rub her neck. "J-just kidding! No one really says that phrase anymore..." 'S-she's backtracking...??' The pegasus wished she could do more than stare puzzled, watching Dream look away embarrassed. It wasn't long before Dream met her gaze again and smiled apologetically. "Sorry! I'm getting used to some things." In seconds Dream's embarrassment seemed to fade away, replaced with her usual cheer. "But I really do think you're neat! Don't mind me if I sound a little weird sometimes!" And just like that, the conversation ended as it normally did. With a kind farewell, Dream retreated into her home with her letter in tow, and Eventide extended her wings for take off. Though, she couldn't help giving Dreamaria's home one last glance before flapping away. No matter how much she tried to focus, the strange conversation refused to leave her mind as she flew. Dreamaria greeted her every time because she enjoyed seeing her? She thought Eve was 'neat'? As Eventide was now, she couldn't pinpoint what about her could be enjoyable. While Dream's comments were kind and brought Eventide some unexpected warmth, it made little sense to her. Ever guarded, Eventide pushed her conflicted feelings out of her mind. For the average pony, words were easy to throw around. It was easy to say those sorts of words to just about anyone. Ponies did it all the time for one reason or another, and often times, they were fleeting sentiments that didn't actually carry any weight. She wasn't special. She knew it was best to remind herself that. ------------------------------------- Eventide Twister being out in town on her days off was a rarity, except for when she had to pick up her medication from Ponyville's pharmacy. Walking out of the store into a rather warm afternoon, Eve slid her bag into her saddlebag. Indecipherable chatter buzzed in the town's air as shopping ponies walked about, carrying parasols or fans to cool themselves down in the summer heat. While the heat was already discomforting her again, thankfully Eventide had no other business, ready to head back to the cool comfort of her home where her parents waited. Just as she began to unfurl her wings, a voice rose above the chatter, along with the ringing of a bell! "Ice Cream! Come cool off with Sugarsocks' Ponyville-famous freshly homemade ice cream!" Eventide turned towards the source and found a pink unicorn mare behind a cart, waving a bell with her magic as she looked around with a friendly grin. Almost instantly murmurs of interest followed as ponies trotted over and lined up at the cart. Eve glanced from the cart, to the sky, and to the cart again. She had tasted Sugarsocks' ice cream before in the past. Aside from getting a few cones with her mother when she was younger, her father would sometimes bring back a cup for her during her secluded years. It was easy to say that the mare's desserts were heavenly. The only real reason she hadn't been able to try Sugarsocks' treats again was thanks to a certain high-energy party pony who always seemed to handle the cart for her wife, at least whenever Eventide spotted it. Talkative, unpredictable Pinkie Pie was always intimating to her. The earth pony's mere presence had kept Eventide from even attempting to approach the ice cream cart. But for once it was down-to-earth Sugarsocks herself who was running it. Not only that, but thanks to the heat, most ponies were inside their homes to cool down, so the line wasn't as long as she was used to seeing. This was her chance. After a short while of watching Sugarsocks' business with her customers, Eventide quietly made her way to the back of the line once it had shortened. After spotting the pricing on the front of the cart, the pegasus reached back into her saddlebag, holding her bits in her wing in preparation. "Hey, fancy seeing you here!" If the voice hadn't sounded so familiar, Eventide would have assumed that the greeting was meant for someone else. Instinct had her glancing behind her, and there, Dreamaria was shining one of her friendly smiles at her. Almost immediately, Eventide found her usual sense of awkwardness come over her. This was the first time Eve had ever seen Dream anywhere but the unicorn's own home. There was something odd and weirdly personal about running into the mare outside of professional work hours. Eventide shyly smiled and nodded back in greeting, regardless. And that was that. Eve turned her attention back to the two other customers ahead of her. However, she couldn't shake off the tension in her, far too aware of the mare right behind her. She knew this pressure. It was the pressure to engage in conversation. Eve wondered if anyone else in the line had noticed their greeting and if they were judging her for ending the run-in as quickly as she did. Was she coming off as rude to them or to Dream Flow? Thankfully it didn't take long before it was her turn. Sugarsocks gave her a kind, motherly smile once she stepped up to the cart. "Hey there Eventide! What can I get you?" Eve glanced at a list of flavors at the top of the cart, relaxing at the sight. It made things a lot easier. Lifting her hoof, Eventide pointed next to one line: "Neapolitan". "Orange Creamsicle? Coming right up!" Eventide blinked. One quick glance down and it wasn't hard to realize the mare had misunderstood where she had pointed, with 'Orange Creamsicle' being the option below her actual choice. Even though Eventide knew Sugarsocks had gotten her order wrong, she uncomfortably watched as the mare whipped out her scoop and expertly scooped out each flavor for the cup. Eventide couldn't bring herself to correct the mare, and it was too late anyway. While Sugarsocks' cheerfully passed the ice cream cup over to her wing, Eventide held out the bits and let the unicorn levitate the currency out of her hoof. Walking away, pretending to be satisfied with her order, she had taken barely two steps away before a voice called out to her. "Ah, Eve, wait!" Behind her, Dream Flow was now standing before the cart, her bits floating in the air with her magic. With a hoof she pointed at the list of flavors, shooting a curious look at her. "Can I have your opinion? Which one of these would you usually order?" Both of Eventide's eyebrows raised. She never would have expected anyone to ask for her opinion. There was always a chance Dream wouldn't like her suggestion and would choose something else, but there was something nice about having her thoughts requested in a way she could answer. Taking a moment to step back, Eventide pointed once more at her actual preferred option, the blue mare letting out a soft "ooh" in response. "Neapolitan...okay!" Dream happily hummed, smiling gratefully at the pegasus. "Thank you!" Smiling back one more time, Eventide once again set off, leaving the unicorn to order on her own. With her ice cream in-wing, Eve walked back home on-hoof, staring down at her treat. She didn't dislike the flavor Sugarsocks gave her. Fruitier flavors just weren't her preference. And as silly as it was, she was somewhat disappointed that she couldn't get the one she actually enjoyed the one time she had the chance. That was her fault, though, and ice cream was ice cream- "Hey Eve! Hold on!" For the third time that day, Eventide found herself turning around. To her surprise Dream was running to catch up with her, her floating ice cream cup encased in magic aura following her. Once she was hoofsteps away, Dreamaria tilted her head inquisitively. "Say, have you taken a bite from your cup yet??" Despite finding the question odd, Eventide shook her head. For some reason, Dream appeared relieved. "Great! I haven't either. In that case, would you like to trade?" For a moment Eventide stared, thoroughly confused. Though it was within the realm of possibility, she couldn't imagine Dream Flow regretting what she had ordered so much that she would trade cups with the very pony who had suggested it. With seamless timing, as if to answer her thoughts, Dream perked up. "Ah! I think Sugarsocks accidentally gave you the wrong flavor, right? That's what it felt like at least." Dream Flow gazed at her kindly. "It looks like it can be really awkward, correcting someone when they get what you want wrong. So I thought it would be easier to order the one you wanted and switch?" There was a moment of genuine disbelief for Eve. As much as the offer almost seemed too unbelievable, the unicorn's earlier request for a suggestion now made more sense. However, despite how touched she was by the gesture, Eventide found herself hesitating. This was an unfamiliar level of thoughtfulness she was finding hard to register, leaving her conflicted. '...does she feel bad for me? Is that what all of this is?' "Ah...sorry." Eve's eyes flicked from the floating cup to Dream Flow's face. To her surprise, the usually cheerful mare had her ears pulled back, her gaze self-consciously glued to the ground. But even then there was a smile -albeit a nervous one - on her muzzle. "I'm sorry if I'm overstepping. My magic picked up on what you were feeling and thought I could do something about it." Rubbing her cheek, Dream Flow closed her eyes and offered a sheepish smile. "But I'm also probably trying a bit too hard to make friends here! I really didn't mean to come off so strong." Eventide lifted her head hearing that, taken aback. Friends? She was trying to become friends with her this whole time? ...it was another idea that was still far off to Eve. It didn't take long for her mind to remind herself that the mare could easily make other friends. Better friends. And yet, there was one thing Eve was now more certain of. 'She...genuinely means all of this.' Dream's eyes shot up as Eventide held out her wing, the ice cream cup balanced on her feathers. Brightening, Dream levitated the cup and replaced it with the one she was holding. "There you go then...thankfully I'm a fan of the more colorful ice creams! Though I never really liked that pink flavor." Dreamaria bit into a spoonful of orange creamsicle, the mare melting with a look of content on her face. As if catching herself, she straightened and gave an embarrassed smile to Eve. "N-not to insult your favorite! I like chocolate, and that white one's alright!" '...pink flavor? White one?' Eve didn't have much time to question the odd word choice. Dream Flow pushed her spoon into her treat and moved to turn around, though not before shooting Eve one last apologetic smile. "Anyway, sorry for bothering you! Enjoy the rest of your day!" Without waiting for a response, Dreamaria began to walk away. Though for the first time, as she stared at the back of Dream's head, Eventide found words willingly forming on her tongue, her lips parting. "Thank you." Dreamaria practically jerked to a halt, whipping her head around to look at her in surprise. Instinctively Eve averted her gaze, her eyes flicking back and forth between Dream and the trees to one side. Only two words and already a part of Eve struggled between reading Dream‘s expression and wanting to be oblivious to it. When she finally managed to keep eye contact with the mare, she found Dream beaming brilliantly at her, a shine to her eyes. "Yeah! See you later, Eve!" With a bit more pep to her step, Dreamaria trotted off. Even as she turned a corner and left Eventide's sight, Eve couldn't help but watch her with a newfound sense of curiosity. Maybe...she would let herself get to know this newcomer after all.
In which Eventide meets a Canadian. Dream you oddball. This chapter makes a lot more sense when read with Dream Flow’s talent in mind! Anyway. Here we get a look at Eve’s new negative, self-deprecating psyche in the aftermath of the past. While she continued to participate in poetry therapy to express her thoughts and emotions on paper, in her adult years Eve gave up on psychotherapy altogether. She believed that her own unwillingness to talk about past events or talk at all was just a waste of time for everyone involved. Because of this, Eventide allowed herself to develop a much more negative outlook on her life and herself in general. At some point her long days began to blur together, becoming dull and empty. As it turned out, new resident and Emotion Counselor Dream Flow posessed unique abilities that allowed her to bypass Eve’s silence. For the most part she could determine Eventide’s “responses” solely based on her internal emotional reactions and shifts. With permission, Dream began keeping her magic activated whenever she spoke to Eve, relying on it as their unique way of communicating. In the aftermath of this story, Eve became more accepting of Dream’s genuine kindness. While a part of Eve tried to stay emotionally distant out of habit, waiting for the day Dream would lose whatever interest she had, she was constantly surprised as Dream actively spoke to her and tried to make her feel included. With time Eve began to relax bit by bit, finding herself caring about this odd but incredibly sweet mare. After more time she even started accepting Dream's invites for ice cream outings and hang outs outside of work. For the first time in years, despite her fears and self-doubt, Eventide found herself wanting to consider someone her friend. Even if she wasn't sure how long their bond would last, and even if it ended up being short-lived, Eve decided she'd appreciate their moments together and the warmth they brought. Next chapter will be the technical end of Eventide's past arc~
