Art requests
Tumblr media
I received this feedback for my denial to accept free work.
I want to make clear what "art request" is to me (to avoid assumptions if possible):
a way to reward people who are kind to me and offer back to my community
a way to add great art to my portfolio, something I wouldn't think to draw otherwise, to add some diversity
but most of all, it is just a suggestion of what I could draw in my free time, the time I could spend on life affairs or my own projects.
I have the absolute right to reject any request if the subject does not resonate with me and if I don't see it in my portfolio or feel like I won't enjoy drawing.
you should be ready to draw whatever the person is asking you to
I have healthy boundaries o( ❛ᴗ❛ )o and won't let others to manipulate me.
I've whipped up quite a few free artworks for good strangers, be it raffles or art requests, and luckily, didn't run into any problems or be labeled as rude. I'd love to keep it that way.

Requesting free art of a character from an artist can be a delightful experience when approached with thoughtfulness and kindness.
Here are some tips to ensure a polite and considerate request:
Familiarize Yourself with Their Art: Begin by immersing yourself in the artist's work. Understand their preferred themes and styles to ensure your request aligns with their creative sensibilities.
Do Your Research: Before making a request, take the time to check if the artist is open to requests and whether they have any specific preferences or conditions.
This information might be publicly available on their profile or a different account.
Join Their Community: Show your appreciation for the artist's work by becoming a member of their community. Subscribe or follow them because you genuinely admire what they create.
Keep It Brief: When reaching out to the artist, craft a concise and polite message. Avoid overwhelming them with questions. Begin by complimenting their talent and then briefly describe your request as a suggestion. For example, you could say, "Could you consider drawing [character name] from [official published title]?"
Choose Characters Wisely: It's advisable to request artwork of characters from well-known titles like games or movies. Original character designs or highly customized requests are often better suited for commissions or art raffles.
Manage Expectations: Understand that not all artists may respond to your request. Some artists might privately consider your request and, if they agree, create the artwork as a public response to your message, tagging you in it.
Approaching artists with courtesy and respect can increase the likelihood of your request being well-received, while also fostering positive interactions within the creative community.

Hey Dook, I really hope the upcoming year brings you nothing but good vibes and a perfect harmony in your awesome art! Your new pieces always make my day, seriously. You're such an inspiration, so dang talented.
Quick question for you: I often find myself stuck when I try to draw in my free time. How do you always come up with such cool ideas? Share your secrets on finding inspiration and drawing as expressively as you do, please!
(´。• ω •。`) Ah, you're so kind. Thank you for the good wishes. I wish you an awesome upcoming year as well.
Tumblr media
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
That's a good question! It's relevant for many fellow artists out there.
SUMMARY: Mix: your passion, your favs, a theme, portfolio and art goals. Power up with your references collection.
In details ⤵️
For me, stumbling onto those bright ideas that really click, started with digging into who I am and what I love.
It's mainly about recognizing the roadblocks and figuring out a fix that fits you. And it's like having a chill heart-to-heart with yourself:
you: I'm stuck. Can't figure out what to draw! mind: Okay. What is your main objective? Work or hobby? you: Feeling a bit rusty. Maybe I should start with something personal, you know, for practice. mind: Got it. First things first, let's jot down your favorite things. Got a list handy? you: Uh, not really. They're all up in my head. mind: No biggie. We can roll with that. It might spark some inspiration. But hey, to spice it up, let's create a visual board of you as an artist. Your focus, your style, your values — everything. Think of it like a moodboard. you: Sounds kinda complex. I just wanted to doodle in my downtime. mind: Trust me, this won't eat up much of your time. It's a breeze, and the result might just be the secret sauce for your future drawings. Start a bit now, pick it up later.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
I, actually, aided it further.
All my ideas that wake me up or keep boiling in my head, I write into digital lists (in my case is TickTick app). Because when I see something inspiring (or someone) I can attach a link where needed, or add a custom note with markdown available.
Tumblr media
Then I began to fill up my reference folders. I work on them from time to time with a timer (20-30 mins). In my case, when I focus on character design, I have a collection of styles I want to try (including art from my favorite games cuz sure I want to learn how pro artists do it), coloring and drawing tutorials, educational (anatomy and all that), poses/faces/expressions, fashion, etc. *can be on your device, online drive, or a platform like Pinterest. Each set is not enough on its own. To make it work - combine things. Example: pick a pose, add a face to it, choose something trendy and fashionable, add your favorite colors/items/theme, throw some VFX. Mix and mash, don't be afraid to combine incompatible.
By establishing my priorities, I made lists (yet again, my obsession) of what I want to practice and then added each category in a randomizator to pick for me 3 elements to match and challenge. Here is my approximate plan (WIP). Random color generator (one of many out there)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I trained myself not to take too broad themes and stick to what I want to have in my portfolio (what drives my future commissions) while staying versatile. Takes practice.
I hope it helps somehow. It's something that works for me these days but might change in the future.
Find your own way because no one knows you like you do, so the most comfortable way to resolve an issue is the one that's crafted by you. Believe, your mind can find shortcuts and tips for you if tasked to do so. Don't forget to research and store.

Hi. I follow you for a long time because you're doing a great job that I admire. Could you share something from materials/brushes you recommend? Do you have art tutorials available? I couldn't find...
Aww, thank you (∩˃o˂∩)♡
Oh, I don't feel confident enough to make tutorials. I'd share tips here, on TikTok, or my Gank sometimes. I'm quite shy in that regard. With a bit more time, I'll make a better system in this blog to find such kind of content more easily.
As for tools, advice, high quality artworks, please, visit my Gank account. I started it this year, and I try to update it often, sharing free-of-charge goods. I plan to post there textures I created and use in my art, any new brushes I make, mind maps of how I manage art and business.
If you like what I do/share, consider supporting me with a tip, or share my social media accounts with others.

Your workspace in CSP is neat. I liked. And what is your artwork workflow? Like, how do you lead your art process from 0 to 100? Is there anything else important to know besides software stuff?
This question is very good, however, I don't know how to answer it shortly because I'm in the process of developing this work environment system yet.
As software evolves, technique changes, and habits shift, so does this whole whale changes direction softly. I will share here my own scheme. Treat it as a suggestion on what to consider.
I know how frustrating can feel to start drawing digitally. Feeling lost, guessing what is there beyond the visible horizon.
I have to try sharing my accumulated knowledge in the hope of, perhaps, helping someone.
But if you're a hobbyist, forget to continue reading.
Hobby is the freedom to decide at your own discretion.
Digital artist work setup
I'll post pdf version of this map in better quality soon.
Tumblr media
If you need something from these to be clarified, ask away.
As I mentioned, this system is WIP and not exactly a workflow. I made these lists for blank-mind days to remember what to consider including and to analyze + register what has been good practice for me regarding work. The more I learn, the more I add.
This would be different for a person who animates, or for an environment artist.
I built mine around Clip Studio Paint because I adore it.
For some extra knowledge. And this I tell myself as well.
If you take art seriously, analyze your preferences and passion, choose whom you want to become as an artist accordingly, and surround yourself with professionals who already became your objective, learn from them. Evolve in your niche.
For example, say, you like post-apocalyptic video games but what makes you feel like home is a floral pattern. Combining these two would make quite an interesting mix. Then find artists who design gorgeous post-apocalyptic stuff and learn from them
- what makes it gorgeous for you
- software, tricks, specifics
- business model and how they sell
- branding and social presence
Floral patterns I don't need to explain, right?
Thank you for asking.
I'm glad I had something semi-ready to show.

I like your art A LOT!! Makes me wonder, how can I show my support considering that I can't pay? Welcome to Tumblr, btw!
Ah, thanks! (⺣◡⺣)♡*
Regarding pay-nless methods of support:
There are plenty of ways to support me that don’t require $ so don’t worry about it (。’▽’。)♡
Even if you can’t do monetary support or commission me, you can help attract people who can.
❥ Engage. Follow, like, reblog, and comment. Help me become visible! Sharing and liking my posts will make the algorithms show my work to more people!
❥ Cheer up. That would be lovely if you can encourage me via message. Or share with me something impressive, positive, or useful. Maybe hug me?  ٩(๑•◡-๑)۶ⒽⓤⒼ❤
❥ Refer my service to those who may be interested.
◆ ⋄ ◆ ⋄ ◆ ⋄ ◆ ⋄ ◆ ⋄ ◆ ⋄ ◆ ⋄ ◆ ⋄ ◆ ⋄ ◆
Regarding general methods of support:
❥ Commission me.  By paying me to get art done, you can significantly help me grow and evolve in my career. You help me push my art to the next level by giving me an assignment, and commissions breed more commissions. Of course, you also get a nice drawing from me in the end.
❥ Provide constructive feedback.  I’m constantly working towards improvement and am genuinely interested in providing the best service I can, so I would love to know your thoughts on my art or cooperation with me. One of the methods to leave your feedback - the online form in my links hub. Via email or Tumblr works as well.
❥ Tip me. This is a direct way to support me, my creativity, and my health. Any and every contribution is appreciated. I have Gank, Stripe, and PayPal available for that. Links to those are also in my links hub.

Hi. Sadly, I don't have the means to pay for your art. Do you accept requests or trades? What kinds of alternative payments do you accept?
Hi. Thanks for your interest ʚ♡⃛ɞ(ू•ᴗ•ू❁) ➤ Regarding requests. The only guaranteed way to obtain what you want is to commission, however, you definitely can try to request from me, and I’ll consider your request. Drawing slowly and without a permanent financial income, doesn’t leave me much time for personal projects (and I always have a pile of them), but sometimes I practice for improvement, and then I could pick your suggestion. Two issues to keep in mind: 1. likely a long waiting time 2. I’ll do it as I please and you'll have no control over the result.
➤ Regarding trades. Usually no, but I participate in Art Fight sometimes. Also, surely will consider if we’re mutuals (follow each other)
➤ And payments. Worldwide. I accept payment via PayPal, in $ USD (United States Dollars). No E-checks, Western Union, "snail mail", etc. Items such as virtual or physical goods will not be accepted as well. In Brazil I accept payments via PIX method, and I will provide my credentials privately.

Rules to using artworks by Dookartsy
Tumblr media
I will give you a detailed answer so that others will also understand where are the boundaries regarding my public artworks.
NO to: - any commercial use without, even on your public page through which you earn money (streaming, advertising, etc.) And any kind of gain from using my art (your grades included), unless it is a web-based document that credits me with an interactive link to my active account. - using art that pictures one of my (or other people's) original characters. Not for RP purposes either. - trace, morph, recolor/redraw/recreate (even if in a different medium), or claim your own any of my artworks.  - I don’t give consent for AI training over my art
YES to: *with an interactive link to my active account - credit, where possible - a profile pic - digital wallpaper on your own device - a tattoo as long as it is for personal use ◆ ⋄ ◆ ⋄ ◆ ⋄ ◆ ⋄ ◆ ⋄ ◆ ⋄ ◆ ⋄ ◆ ⋄ ◆ ⋄ ◆
And regarding reposts (while we at it)
Re-blog - re-share within the same platform my artwork where I originally posted it so it links back to my active account.  Re-post - is like re-submit and use it on your page so it's linked to your username primarily without credit to the original author.
Considering that, I encourage reblogs but discourage reposts.
I'm working hard to be visible as an artist so I can't afford my work to serve the mercantile needs of art thieves.
