Could you make a height chart for comparing your different species? I think it would help visually
Default people isn't how I roll, so here is an assortment of characters who are considered unremarkable sizes for their species (and José for scale)
Tumblr media
Luz is a *little* remarkable, he's considered short, but a common kind of short. He's included because I know he confuses people haha. Renwick is more average.
Despite depicting them standing together like this please note these characters are not all in the same story and some of them will never meet each other.

Does the family drama with Flick and Hyssop have anything to do with the fallout with her former friend/friend’s brother?
Tumblr media
Many Saratoan families view "one-off" pregnancies from unexpected members of a generation (or a family getting a second dedicated mother) as just a bonus - that's less likely to happen if that family plays favorites and makes everything adversarial.
Her former friend and the friend's brother didn't make her family situation change at all, just pulled the rug out from under someone who was working without a net.

One day in the far future
(Flick is doing the "I'm older than you" display because she's probably about to launch into a mom-lecture and Rain is like "I do not see it, I am Looking Away")

Random small things that I haven't figured out how to make into like, actual posts yet or haven't gotten around to making anything about it yet but anyway:
I'm changing Roosevelt's tag to "Roosevelt Cookie Jar" to better differentiate her from the hydras and also I've decided that's her full name
I've decided Magical Matrix Malformation, the thing Peter has, DOES run in families, but in a risk factor kind of way, and that it still happens spontaneously, so what I've said about how if Peter had kids they'd be regular humans is still true, but I'm going to depict the amount of occurrence in families as varying (this is me figuring out the faun lady a bit more while also introducing a little more drama into Peter's life as a freebie)
Also I decided Hyssop and Flick are blood related. Grunkle and grand niece. Because family drama.

Does Flick have a strained relationship with her Joey because of the drama the father caused?
Tumblr media
She's a very tired mom since she doesn't have as much support as normal, which would of course put a little strain on any relationship, but she has nothing but love for this child

Is RainBook too big to fit in the pouch by now? He looks so big
In that image he's definitely too big - he's a proper toddler. I depict his age a little fluidly depending on what part of his childhood and what aspect of Flick's experience of motherhood as a Saratoan I want to depict.
I wanted to draw Rain and Pen together and Pen is too old to do much joey care, but he's happy to hold a baby for a minute, so I drew Rain as "please hold the baby for a second so he doesn't lick a power outlet or something I need to find my purse" age, rather than a delicate newborn
He's "ride on mom's back like an opossum" age in that image rather than pouchling age.

'By the base of the tail' made me think of gerbils and how if u grab them by the end of the tail there's a good chance you'll legit pull it off and expose the bone of the end of the tail (I have experienced this, having pet gerbils when I was young, its extremely surprising and awful feeling after for causing it unknowingly) but now I'm curious if that happens to saratoans too?
Saratoans are a lot bigger and sturdier than gerbils and their tails are designed to act as a kind of fifth limb - almost prehensile, but not that dexterous; another clumsy foot not another delicate hand - so it's a lot harder to hurt their tails by pulling on them
The base of the tail through to a bit past the length of their leg is safe to suspend a child's whole body weight by (I keep meaning to draw it but I've been thinking of this area as being like, hero shrew levels of bonkers to support their using-tail-as-personal-stool behavior) and most of the rest of the tail is safe to pull them along the ground by without injury. A boon to caregivers everywhere
Tumblr media
The tip of the tail (the bit with the hair) is more delicate and shouldn't be yanked on, but you'd really have to try to rip the thing off wholesale. What's more common is pulling the vertebrae apart while the skin remains intact, which hurts a lot and can cause permanent damage to the shape, movement and feeling of the tail even going above the injury and may require partial tail docking to address.
They instinctively curl their tails when grabbed to protect this area from damage by trying to hold the vertebrae together with muscle just in case, but generally Saratoans kind of just have an instinct that the main body of the tail is the safe part for manhandling, sort of like how it probably would never occur to you to try and pick a child up by the fingers even if you've grabbed their elbow to keep them out of trouble a thousand times.

Is it possible for a person like Flick to get a new life partner? Maybe pair with someone else who lost their life partner?
Oh definitely. She's not necessarily doomed to never have a companion again, but it's very hard since most Saratoans get their closest friends in childhood/sub-adulthood.
So Flick is in the position of having to figure out how grownup friendship works and how to and when to deepen a connection to someone when the last time she formed a deep friendship bond was when you could just go up to someone and ask to share their crayons.
She's far from the only one, but it would certainly feel to her like she's the only one.

Why isn’t Rain’s dad (I’m pretty sure it’s rains dad) in the picture? Is that a standard saratoan thing I probably missed or is it more abnormal for that to happen?
It's not exactly their ideal, they definitely encourage fathers being involved in their kids care, but stuff happens
Tumblr media
She got caught up in the exact sibling/friend relationship drama people have asked about before - he was a "non-breeding" male in her life partner's family, but he insisted he was just taking his time to leave the nest and was totally gonna be with her long-ish term (long for what Saratoans expect of relationships) and he was going to move out and get a job and be there for her if she had a joey so we don't need birth control trust me baby just don't tell anyone yet
He then denied they ever had a relationship (so he could continue to stay home and sponge off his family) and her partner sided with her brother, so Flick lost her best friend in the process. The paternity test (when Rain was big enough for that) just pissed them all off more and they doubled down rather than admit anything.
So she kind of had to start over. Plus one joey, minus two losers.

1. Adorable drawing 2.Ooh does that mean that Hyssop and Flick and them all live in PenWell's house arrangement? That's cute!
Thanks!
Hyssop and Atlas have their own separate small home, but Hyssop is a kindhearted guy and hangs around Flick a lot trying to be supportive while Rain is little, because Rain's dad isn't in the picture. So Hyssop is in Pen's house a lot. Often enough to basically count as an honorary resident.
