Automation the ‘only answer’ to labor shortage problem, CEO says
Restaurants use self-order kiosks to get the job done amid worker shortage
As a record number of Americans are quitting their jobs, the restaurant industry is turning to technology to keep their doors open.
“The only answer is automation,” GRUBBRR CEO Sam Zietz said on “Mornings with Maria” Friday. “It solves the labor problem.”
The software company is working to implement its self-order kiosks at nationwide chains such as Del Taco, Bento and The Chicken Shack with hopes to help curb the worker shortage.
“Between the Great Resignation, COVID and the $15 an hour increase in the minimum wage, all these things have exacerbated what’s happened to businesses,” Zietz told FOX Business’ Dagen McDowell.
SERVERS ‘MAKING MORE, WORKING LESS’ WITH ROBOT WAITERS, RESTAURANT CEO SAYS
Zietz pointed out that robots and technology in restaurants have made the cashier position extinct.
“These jobs are gone forever. We believe the cashier is obsolete,” he said. “Kiosks always show up. They’re not sick. They don’t get COVID. They work 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They’re always upselling.”
When asked whether retiring Baby Boomers contribute to the recent struggle of building back a workforce, Zietz countered that young people’s willingness to job hop is more impactful.
“What’s really happened is these workers have gone and discovered the gig economy,” the CEO noted.
Zietz said the hospitality industry is discovering the “hidden benefit” of automation.
“We’re increasing the revenue because people buy more, significantly more, at the kiosk than they do with cash.”

Improving User Experience with Interactive Kiosks
Find out how an interactive kiosk can improve customer experience in your restaurant. This technology can help you stand out in a crowded market.
Tumblr media
Today’s consumers expect service to be personalized and efficient. More than half regularly use a tablet or a smartphone app, and kiosks at banks and airports are so common they are ubiquitous. This has set the stage for technology to transform the food and beverage industry, helping to increase sales and improve productivity. And, not surprisingly, improving the overall customer experience.
While the early version of kiosk technology had commercial applications, the hospitality industry adapted them for their own use and placed them near cashiers to reduce the wait time of their guests. They quickly found that in addition to the support a self-service kiosk gave to their staff, they also noticed the benefits to their guests. Here’s a quick look at how interactive kiosk technology helps improve customer experience.
Makes Order Customization Easier
The majority of people expect to be able to personalize their orders. But they don’t necessarily feel comfortable doing so when someone is waiting to take their order as they try to read the menu and an impatient line forms behind them. But when in front of a touch screen kiosk, the menu options are clearer and easier to read. This gives customers a better idea of what they are ordering and a feeling of privacy that lowers inhibitions about piling on additional items. When they do it themselves, they don’t feel as judged – or as rushed.
In addition, kiosks can be programmed to present the menu in different languages, giving foreign customers an increased comfortability when ordering. This is especially helpful in areas where there is a lot of tourism and visitors from many different countries.
Makes Wait Times Shorter
A long line can make a customer walk away from a restaurant – even if it is their favorite – in search of a quicker experience. If there are more than 5-7 people in line to order, 57% of customers will choose to go to a different restaurant. And the more people standing in line, the higher the percentage of potential customers who decide not to even walk in the door. The situation changes when self-service kiosks are in use. The kiosks eliminate the agony of wait times and make ordering faster.
Improves Order Accuracy
Getting the wrong order is a major complaint of restaurant guests. Sometimes this happens from human error, and other times, it is due to language barriers or miscommunications with busy servers. A digital touch screen kiosk can reduce these errors. When customers customize their own orders, they are more likely to get exactly what they want. They don’t have to worry about the server understanding what they’ve asked for. And self-ordering kiosks that can be programmed to offer different languages overcome any language barriers between guests and wait staff.
Self-service kiosks represent the unavoidable technological transformation of the restaurant industry. They also solve the fundamental problems that can cause sales to flatten: operational efficiency and customer experience. Quick-serve and fast-food restaurants should actively consider incorporating kiosks into their locations and leveraging the technology to differentiate them from their competitors. If you don’t, your competitors will. If they aren’t already.

Michael Sherfick - On July 4th could NASCAR set the tone -- and the standard -- for re-opening many parts of the country?
NASCAR opens up for the 2020 Dixie Vodka 400, but sponsors like Michael Sherfick's of Sherfick Companies are not so sure? Sherfick Companies is concerned for sponsors because of the limited number of fans, 5000, allowed in the stands because of Covid from the Indy Brickyard 400 on July 4th weekend. Sherfick Companies and Starcom Racing have big plans for NASCAR in 2021. But, will sponsors continue their plans with low viewership and merchandising?
Will the current Covid-19 protocols slow or stop all outdoor sports. NASCAR had set guidelines to safely hold the events using CDC guidelines on social distancing and personal protective equipment. NASCAR decided a limited number of fans can attend races this month at Homestead-Miami Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway. NASCAR says all fans will be screened before entering, required to wear face coverings, mandated to social distance at six feet, and will not have access to the infield, among other revised operational protocols. Other rules include a bans on Confederate flags and removes guidelines requiring standing for national anthem.
Industries such as hospitals and surgery have a wide range of protocols, but does not include social distancing between you and your physician. Guidelines vary by federal, state and city municipalities and may or may not be laws passed by legislatures.
The surgical industry's latest plastic surgery webinar details their protocols across the world for opening up safely under Covid-19. Despite the laws, guidelines and protocol's, the WHO on Tuesday reported "Asymptomatic spread of Coronavirus is "very rare".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEfqonRro_o
NASCAR fans are known to be an outdoor, social gathering. Would you want to bring your family to a race, and not sit next to them? Will the NASCAR crowd ignore social distancing. It's more about human nature, than protocols. Will NASCAR arrest fans for giving a Hi-5? Will fans stage a walk out after fans are removed from the stands ? "With no fans, there was no extra energy." He called it “unearthly.”

Cashless Trend added to Google Docs
Cashless Trend
Payments technology company GRUBBRR ramps up services.
By Debbie Hall

According to CBS News, a growing number of businesses and people will no longer handle paper money due to risk (however low) of exposure to coronavirus (COVID-19). GRUBBRR, a payments technology company that works with restaurants and retailers in the U.S., is seeing increased demand for cashless payment systems.
According to industry expert and technology entrepreneur Sam Zietz, CEO of GRUBBRR, he was predicting a transition in two to five years before the pandemic.
“It is happening now,” he explains.
Strategically, with a heavy focus on full-service restaurants, restaurants are going cashierless and cashless. For QSR and fast casual places, people will order on a mobile device, kiosk, or third-party delivery service. He predicts the end of cashiers.
“The restaurant industry has been notorious for lagging behind when it comes to technology,” Zietz states. “COVID-19 has brought that to the forefront. Not only will the industry have to catch up, but those who are going to be successful will have to become leaders in utilizing a new technology.”
McDonald’s has invested in the technology, spending $1 billion on kiosks in 2019, and has already reaped the benefits and seen the impact first-hand.
Before the pandemic, many restaurant chains, owners, and restaurateurs hesitantly broached the technology and wanted to utilize it on a very small scale basis. They were interested in using a pilot program and accumulate data to analyze if it was right for their particular company or business.
Instead, the technology has been stress tested and, with social distancing, redirects customers to other methods, including kiosks. People have used these methods of payment out of necessity and a desire to not interact with other people.
GRUBBRR merged two of its products, online ordering and kiosks, to create contactless ordering. An individualized service directed to full-service restaurants has been developed.
Fast casual and QSR have been offering carryout for decades, and adding delivery services, especially with third-party companies, is an easy step.
However, full service restaurants now have to rethink their business model. These restaurants were not (usually) set up for carryout, and its online menu might not be complete or up to date. Businesses such as GRUBBRR have stepped in and set up restaurants for the new reality in the food & beverage industry. One technology used by GRUBBRR is implementing a QR that only requires a device (smartphone) with no app required. GRUBBRR can also integrate online ordering and contactless (kiosk) to enable curbside pickup and delivery. The kiosk can accept credit cards and cash.   A description of the car can also be entered for ease of pickup.
While full-service restaurants had to drastically cut staff and with cashless and contactless payment, many of the jobs such as cashiers could become obsolete. Zietz recommends that since online ordering is now set up for those remaining open, some of the staff can be hired to become delivery people. He also advises that it will be a long road ahead for restaurants, especially full-service. There will be drastic changes, especially density―where 100 could be seated, now will only be 50.
“This has affected the psyche of everyone in this country and around the world,” Zietz says. “I don’t know how quick people will want to go out to eat, especially in different demographics.”
To help the food & beverage industry, GRUBBRR will offer the software free of charge for 90 days. For more information, visit grubbrr.com.

Discussing Customer Experience, GRUBBRR Self-Service Kiosks, and The Covid Effect
Tumblr media
In today's ever-changing food service industry, keeping up with the times is essential for success. Self-service kiosks have gained traction as a means to enhance the dining experience. With the challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, the adoption of cutting-edge technologies such as GRUBBRR's self-service kiosks, which seamlessly accept credit cards and streamline payment processing, became vital for both businesses and customers.
The Transformation of the Customer Experience At the heart of any thriving business, particularly in the food service sector, is the customer experience. GRUBBRR, a prominent provider of self-service kiosks, has been a pioneer in reshaping this experience. Their kiosks are thoughtfully designed to boost efficiency, precision, and overall satisfaction.
Before the pandemic, self-service kiosks were seen as a convenient addition to the dining experience. They empowered customers to leisurely browse menus, customize their orders, and make payments using these user-friendly kiosks, creating a more personalized experience. However, with the arrival of Covid-19, the role of these kiosks transcended mere convenience.
The Pandemic's Influence on Dining The Covid-19 pandemic caused a seismic shift in how we approach dining out. Restaurants had to pivot their operations to ensure safety and compliance with social distancing guidelines. The demand for contactless solutions, including self-service kiosks that accept credit cards and streamline payment processing, surged.
Customer preferences underwent a significant shift during this period. Customers sought minimal physical contact with surfaces and staff. Businesses had to adapt to these evolving expectations. Self-service kiosks, like those offered by GRUBBRR, provided customers with a way to place orders without physically handling menus or engaging closely with waitstaff.
Enhancing Safety and Efficiency with Self-Service Kiosks For restaurants striving to provide a safe and efficient dining experience, GRUBBRR's self-service kiosks emerged as a savior. Customers gained access to full menus, the ability to customize orders, and an option to pay through these kiosks. This eliminated the need for physical menus and reduced direct interaction with staff. By accepting credit cards and optimizing payment processing, these kiosks ensured swift, secure, and contactless transactions.
The merits of self-service kiosks stretched beyond safety considerations. They elevated operational efficiency by minimizing order errors and wait times. With self-service kiosks, customers could carefully peruse menu options, ultimately leading to heightened satisfaction and improved order accuracy.
youtube
Merchant Account Processing: A Streamlined Solution An indispensable component of the self-service kiosk ecosystem is merchant account processing. GRUBBRR's kiosks are intricately linked with payment processing systems to guarantee secure, reliable, and swift transactions. This integration empowers businesses to seamlessly accept credit cards, delivering a hassle-free payment experience to customers.
By facilitating seamless payment processing, self-service kiosks ensure that customers can wrap up transactions without any glitches. This heightened level of convenience not only enriches the customer experience but also aids businesses in streamlined operations and the maintenance of a consistent cash flow.
