#Gabriel and Nathalie have already been consumed by their curses

So remembered an animatic that said every Ladybug holder was destined to abandon their Black Cat and they'd never see each other again. So I quickly threw together a set of curses for all the Chinese Box.
Ladybug - They are destined to always die alone with their goals unaccomplished
Black Cat - They are fated to always be abandoned by the person they hold closest
Fox - They are fated to always destroy the person they love most
Turtle - When it counts most they won’t be able to protect those they hold most dear
Bee - They are fated to drive others away at their most vulnerable
Butterfly - They are fated to have their good intentions twisted sour
Peacock - They are fated to put their faith and love into the wrong person and destroy themselves
Snake - At the end of things, they will always end up alone
Dragon - They are fated to never have the strength they most need
Bunny - They are destined to see the worst fates of their friends repeat over and over again with no chance to save them
Tiger - They are destined to always squeeze too tight and break those they love
Pig - Their kindness and desire to help will be their downfall
Mouse - They are fated to feel the weight of every task and eventually be crushed by it
Ox - They are cursed to be destroyed by their own growing doubt
Horse - They are fated to always be a moment too slow and be ruined by it
Monkey - Their happiness will come at the cost of the misery of others
Goat - They will be consumed by their passion and desires
Dog - They will devote their lives to a goal and only in their last moments realize they were wrong
Rooster - The people they hold closest will be unreachable
My rough idea is that the Miraculous of the Chinese Miracle Box are so powerful that their magic naturally backlashes onto the user in the form of a curse. So if someone wears a Miraculous for too long, they will be doomed to the curse even if they take it off.

more Agreste family Angst
The sun was high in the sky by the time she woke up. Its light fell onto the bed in bright beams through the gap in the curtains, irritating her eyes. She squinted, but couldn’t manage to move away. These days even the simplest of movements took too much out of her.
An indiscernible amount of time later, the door opened and closed. She barely shifted in the sheets, her gaze unfocused.
“Are you awake?” Gabriel asked quietly.
After a pause, she replied: “Yes.”
The mattress dipped under his weight. He moved a stray strand of hair from her face and then leant down to place a gentle kiss on her cheek.
“I’m glad,” he said. He smiled, but couldn’t quite mask the worry in his voice. “Would you like a coffee?”
“Yes. Please.”
He had one prepared already, waiting on the bedside table. With his assistance she managed to sit up and take the tiny cup into her trembling hands.
The coffee helped; strong, bitter, with a touch of sweetness. She found herself smiling despite everything, her hand finding Gabriel’s to give it a reassuring squeeze.
“Don’t look so grim, dear,” she said. “I overslept, that’s all.”
“It’s been happening over and over,” he said, a frown marring his handsome face. The last couple of weeks had aged him terribly.
“I know,” she said, apologetic. “Adrien’s lessons should have started hours ago… Where is he?”
“Nathalie’s taking care of it,” Gabriel said. He held her hand throughout, circling absent-minded patterns onto her skin.
Emilie chased the last droplets of coffee, thick and syrupy on her tongue. Then, its taste still lingering, she leaned over and kissed Gabriel’s downturned mouth, tracing her fingers through the greying hair at his temple.
“I should be taking care of our son’s education, shouldn’t I?” she asked quietly. “I’m sorry. I know you need Nathalie’s assistance. She shouldn’t have to do this.”
“I can manage for a few hours.”
Gabriel’s response was immediate; his voice kind and reassuring. It hurt to shift away from his warm embrace, but she had to look him in the eyes as she asked.
“How are the preparations?”
For a moment, there was nothing but sorrow in Gabriel’s expression. Then he steeled himself, expression grim.
“The room is ready,” he said. “Everything working as it should. It will keep you in stasis until I find a way to wake you.”
In Gabriel’s life, there was no place for failure. He knew what he wanted and strove towards it, always, with ruthless tenacity Emilie couldn’t help but admire. It was the core of his very being, and it earned him the title of one of the biggest names in fashion.
In this, however – in this, Gabriel was powerless. He still had hope, of course; hope and will and determination. It burned so brightly Emilie was worried it might end up consuming him.
She felt his lips against her own, forming a rueful smile.
“Don’t doubt me, my love,” Gabriel said.
“Oh, I would never,” Emilie replied. She laced their fingers together; Gabriel brought it to his lips and pressed a tender kiss to her knuckles.
“We will get through this,” he said. “I promise.”
They hadn’t yet managed to decipher the book, so the exact nature of Emilie’s worsening condition was a mystery. The other brooch – it would be too risky to use it. What if it bore the same curse as the Peacock? And she, Emilie, was running out of time.
Soon it would be over. Gabriel and Adrien would be alone, all alone. That was one thought she couldn’t bear.
“We will,” she echoed. “I know we will.”
