I stumbled upon a BBC recording from 1970, where two women in their 90's were interviewed about their teenage years. These women had been born in 1880's so they were in their teens in 1890's-1900's.
One woman recalled how her brother had seen this weird machine on a shop window, and women working with these machines. It was a typewriter and the place was hiring women to learn how to type with it. She also was bicycling a lot in her teens, and told a story how she once accidentally drove into a policeman. She and her friends were summoned to a court and fined 5 shillings each for this preposterous activity. The magistrate has been most horrified and disgusted that these young women hadn't been horse riding but bicycling when this collision happened!
It was amazing to hear. These women has gone such a huge jump in development of society and technologies from 1880 to 1970! I can't remember where I heard it but when we look back at time, humanity globally has advanced between 1900-2000 as much as in the previous 5000 years.
These ladies had seen the dawn of electricity; the very first electric cars and horse-pulled handsome cabs turning into busses, taxes and cars; Titanic; two world wars; suffragette movement fighting for women's rights and women getting these rights; the Wright brother's first plane and it leading to commercial flights and eventually to the moon landing; rise and falls of nations in Europe and changes on European map; the changes in workplaces and work place regulations; the development of radio; the whole history of TV; the fast changing clothing styles by each decade; the invention of plastic. They were born just 4 years after a telephone was patented in 1876.
I'm a pre-internet era child. Pre-mobile phone era child. I can recall when news told how this thing called internet is now open and how we predict it to become important. I can tell how huge difference mobile phones, emails, internet, video services, art programs etc. have done to the world. I'm every day grateful for the internet and technology because it was brought me to all I dreamed of and wanted as a child. Endless amounts of movies, comic, pictures, information, connections to everywhere in the world, exploration. Niche books and stuff I could never even see in my whole life without internet! In a need of a certain character reference? Just google it! Want to see that particular scene from a movie or a game? Go to internet, it's there!
And yet, I can never experience the same gigantic jumps as these 1890's teenagers did.

“All this happening at once is really startling,” said Joseph Schwieterman, a DePaul University professor who researches intercity bus travel and directs the university’s Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development. “You’re taking mobility away from disproportionately low-income and mobility-challenged citizens who don’t have other options.”
Roughly three-quarters of intercity bus riders have annual incomes of less than $40,000. More than a quarter would not make their trip if bus service was not available, according to surveys by Midwestern governments reviewed by DePaul University.
Intercity bus riders are also disproportionately minorities, people with disabilities, and unemployed travelers.
A spokesperson for Greyhound, which is now owned by German company FlixMobility, said it strives to offer customers the most options for connections, but has “encountered challenges in some instances.” The spokesperson also said they “actively engage with local stakeholders to emphasize the importance of supporting affordable and equitable intercity bus travel.”
The terminal closures have been accelerating as Greyhound, the largest carrier, sells its valuable terminals to investors, including investment firm Alden Global Capital.
Last year, Alden subsidiary Twenty Lake Holdings purchased 33 Greyhound stations for $140 million. Alden is best known for buying up local newspapers like The Chicago Tribune, New York Daily News and The Baltimore Sun, cutting staff, and selling some of the iconic downtown buildings.
Alden has started to sell the Greyhound depots to real estate developers, speeding up the timetable for closures.
“I don’t know the specific details of each building, but it is clear what is happening here: an important piece of transit infrastructure is being sacrificed in the name of higher profits,” said Stijn Van Nieuwerburgh, a professor of real estate at Columbia Business School.
Tumblr media
“The public sector has turned a cold shoulder to buses,” DePaul’s Schwieterman said. “We subsidize public transit abundantly, but we don’t see this as an extension of our transit system. Few governments view it as their mandate.”
Bus terminals are costly for companies to operate, maintain and pay property taxes on. Many have deteriorated over the years, becoming blighted properties struggling with homelessness, crime and other issues.
But terminal closures cause a ripple effect of problems.
Travelers can’t use the bathroom, stay out of the harsh weather or get something to eat while they wait. People transferring late at night or early in the morning, sometimes with long layovers, have no place to safely wait or sleep. It’s worse in the cold, rain, snow or extreme heat.
Bus carriers often try to switch to curbside service when a terminal closes, but curbside bus service can clog up city streets with passengers and their luggage, snarl traffic, increase pollution, and frustrate local business owners. In Philadelphia, a Greyhound terminal closure and switch to curbside service after its lease ended turned into a “humanitarian disaster” and “municipal disgrace” with people waiting on street corners.

Tumblr media
The colossal Dubai International Airport (DXB) has truly earned the moniker of one of the largest and busiest airports in the world. Spanning over 7,200 acres, this sprawling airport is also an integral transit hub for numerous international flights and you can only imagine the number of footfalls each day. With millions of people passing by every day in DXB, it is only fair that it offers an equally phenomenal shopping experience to everyone. While shopping in the city of gold is one of the most exciting experiences, shopping in the Dubai Duty Free is truly an incredible experience. Come, let’s check out what all you can buy at the Dubai Duty Free.
There are two major Dubai international airports – DXB and Al Maktoum and both of them have a plethora of shopping outlets for you to peruse both at the arrival and departure. However, the Terminal 3 of DXB is where all the action is. It has the maximum number of outlets and sells everything from jewellery, cosmetics, bags, electronics, perfumes, chocolates, shoes, souvenirs, alcohol, fashion accessories, clothing, and more.
About Dubai Duty Free
Dubai Duty Free is the largest retail airport retailer globally having won this title more than 10 times until now. Spread over a staggering area of 40,000 sqm combined, the DDF is open 365 days of the year 24/7 and offers one of the most extraordinary Dubai shopping experience. Another advantage is that there is an online site for people who are short of time and can shop and get the products delivered directly at home. Isn’t that fantastic?
Here is a break-down of the various categories and outlets that are available.
Lifestyle, beauty, and fashion
No surprises that some of the top notch luxurious global brands in fashion, makeup, skincare, and lifestyle have their outlets at the DDF. Gucci, Armani, YSL, Burberry, Lacoste, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Prada, Dolce and Gabbana, Estée Lauder, Coach, NARS, Lancôme, Givenchy are just a few to make to the list. Some of the well-known stores here are Bvlgari, Cartier, Tiffany & Co, Rolex, Swarovski, Pandora, Frey Wille, Damiani, and Liali.

Chocolates and Confectionary
Food is an important part of shopping and also make for great souvenirs to carry for your loved ones. Cookies, candies, dry fruits, and chocolates from brands like Godiva, Toblerone, Hershey’s, Reeses, Lindt, M&Ms, Butlers are just perfect to indulge in.
Toys
With so many exceptional shopping options for the adults, how can the little ones be left behind? Whether it is action figurines, cars, soft toys, or dolls, shops like LEGO, Disney, Marvel, Hasbro, and Crayola are there to fulfil your needs.
Souvenirs
Collecting souvenirs from any new place to remember the vacation fondly is one of the best things to do. From fridge magnets, stuffed camels, key chains, to themed chocolates, Bateel dates, and miniature models of iconic monuments like Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, etc. are some of the impressive ones that you find here. There is also an exclusive Emirates store where you can buy merchandise such as caps, t shirts, luggage scale, and also the Boeing 777 model aircraft.
Watches/Clocks
Watches from world-class brands like Rolex, Casio, Omega, Tag Heuer, Tissot, Rado, Fossil, Skagen, and Michael Kors, are available in the DDF.
Apart from these myriad products, DDF also has many raffles, car draws, bike draws, and other programs where travellers get a chance to win money, vehicles, and many other goodies. Do try and participate as you may be the next lucky winner of a Mercedes Benz or a BMW.
You can visit their official website to find out more about these programs or the various stores and how to navigate them.
Conclusion
The Dubai Duty Free promises a wholesome shopping experience to all its customers with freebies, loyalty points, and other unique promotions to sweeten the deal a little more. We suggest you go through their official website before hand and make a list of the things that you want to make this process more memorable.

After the global financial crisis, China maintained its rapid growth while its trade surplus shrank through extraordinary investment in property and infrastructure. Mobilizing such high investment required higher domestic borrowing as well. In the ten years following the global financial crisis, China’s internal debt-to-GDP ratio rose from around 150 percent to well over 250 percent of GDP. In essence, the debts of households, local governments, real estate developers, and state firms have all increased faster than their incomes. Ultimately, that is a risky dynamic.
That said, China’s central government debt has been stable: the country’s debt is less than 20 percent of its GDP—far below that of the world’s other major economies. China’s central state unambiguously has a large role in China’s economy, but that is because it backs most large Chinese banks and many investment funds. The Chinese government doesn’t collect a lot of tax, nor does it spend a lot on social benefits: China has not created a national system of unemployment insurance, does not offer high-quality universal health care, and limits the public services available to Chinese workers who move from rural areas to more prosperous coastal cities.
The result is an unusual mix of financial strengths and weaknesses. The central government in Beijing owns some of China’s most profitable companies, and it backs the healthiest part of China’s financial system, namely the big national banks. It has little direct debt. Local governments, however, are carrying substantial debt and have a weaker revenue base. They are also indirectly responsible for the many state firms that have been created to finance local infrastructure projects, and they back many of the weaker locally owned banks.
The big property developers, meanwhile, carry staggering debt. The market borrowing of the largest private property developer, Evergrande, is around $100 billion. If all its promised apartments and unpaid bills are counted, the company owes an estimated $300 billion. Its peers have only slightly smaller balance sheets. China’s total debt isn’t a problem for an economy that saves as much as China does—the real problem is that the wrong parts of the economy are carrying most of the debt and will have difficulty repaying.
Still, China will likely manage the immediate financial risk that its property downturn has created. Some of the weaker property developers may not pay all their debt on time and in full. But China’s central government has the capacity to protect important institutions that lent to the big property developers. Beijing can also help local governments that will need to rescue local banks so they can support locally important firms.
China’s central government doesn’t want to cover all losses, however. Too much help would fail to teach a lesson to those who lent to the most poorly managed property developers, and that could potentially lead to a new round of risky behavior. At the same time, the central government cannot allow all the big property developers to fail simultaneously. It also cannot allow losses on past investment projects to stop the flow of new infrastructure financing because China’s economy would seize up from unpaid bills and stalled building projects. Unemployed urban workers and angry buyers of unbuilt apartments would threaten social and political stability. A restructuring of the debts of the developers is inevitable—but that restructuring must be combined with steps to help the financial system bear the associated losses and make sure the flow of credit to the economy doesn’t stop completely.

Mykhailo Fedorov and his team “make things happen,” Time magazine wrote when it selected Fedorov as one of its 100 emerging world leaders in September.
“It is like it is in his DNA to take action,” his profile read.
Fedorov, Ukraine’s 31-year-old deputy prime minister and minister of digital transformation, keeps it modest about making it onto Time’s list.
“I was pleasantly surprised,” he said in an interview with the Kyiv Independent. “It motivates me to keep working.”
Wearing a black hoodie, the youngest member of Ukraine’s Cabinet spoke about the role of tech during the war and his accomplishments on the digital battlefield via Zoom from his office in Kyiv. The old wooden furniture in the room – a holdover from previous, old-school governments – stands in stark contrast to Fedorov’s tech-savvy personality.
For balance, Fedorov decorated his space with children's drawings, books, and a neon sign reading "Diia" – the name of the state mobile application launched by Fedorov and his team to achieve President Volodymyr Zelensky's promise to digitize government services.
Fedorov's wartime portfolio is impressive: He helped bring Elon Musk’s satellite internet Starlink to Ukraine’s front line, pressured global tech companies to stop operating in Russia, and lobbied to legalize cryptocurrency so that Ukraine could accept donations to the military in crypto.
Unlike other government agencies that are often drowned in bureaucracy, Fedorov organized his Ministry of Digital Transformation to operate like a startup: young and entrepreneurial civil servants put forward ambitious ideas – some so ambitious they are unfeasible – and then seek funding to implement them. “Only 10% of our ideas take off,” Fedorov said.
Before the war, Fedorov’s dream was to make Ukraine “the most convenient state in the world.” To do so, he worked to move government services, such as paying taxes and receiving unemployment benefits, online. The fruit of his labor is Diia, now used by more than 18 million people out of Ukraine’s 41 million adult population.
Fedorov also pushed for the legalization of cryptocurrencies in Ukraine and introduced a special taxation system – Diia City – for tech firms and startups. The tech community is split on this initiative — some consider it a threat to the current system where tech specialists pay a favorable 5% revenue tax if they’re registered as private entrepreneurs.
Technology has proven vital in times of crisis, whether it be the Covid-19 pandemic or war, Fedorov said. And Ukraine, partly thanks to his ministry’s efforts, was ready to use tech to fight against the enemy and support the economy.
The innovations gave Ukraine a real edge against the heavily outdated Russian army, which mostly uses military equipment left over from the Soviet era. By the third month of the war, for example, when the Ukrainians had already started using Starlink for communications, many Russian soldiers were using ERA cryptophone system, which did not work in most regions of Ukraine and could easily be cracked by Ukrainian intelligence.
As Russia continues its war, one of Fedorov's priorities now is to turn Ukraine into the center of military tech development and production. “I want more Ukrainian tech companies to help kill Russians,” he said, smiling.

7 Strategies To Future-Proof Your UK Accounting Practice
Tumblr media
In 2020, the global accounting software market was valued at $12.01 billion. By 2026, it is projected to reach $19.59 billion with an 8.5% CAGR (Mordor Intelligence, 2020).
However, ICAEW statistics show that 25% of all businesses still use paper records. This number includes many UK accounting practices and that is a serious concern. There seems to be a disconnect with the traditional process driven accounting industry and the new age businesses. Technology has become too ingrained into the generation of today. The new age business owners grew up with the technology and are swift in adapting to it and they expect their service providers to be just as technology savvy as them.
UK accounting practices must also adapt to the needs of clients instead of remaining stuck with age-old methodologies. Taking action toward implementing digital innovation is the next step for many accounting firms. Changing with the times is a necessity to attract more customers and increase profits. Here are 7 strategies for preparing Outsourcing UK accounting firms for the future.
1. Invest in the cloud & automation technologies
Over the past few years, cloud technology has expanded more rapidly than ever, especially for the accounting industry. Automated accounting systems enable accountants to automate numerous accounting tasks. Much popular accounting software is now on the cloud and keeping data on the cloud is acceptable for most businesses. QuickBooks Online, Xero, Dropbox, Dext, FreeAgent, and Kashflow are some of the cloud software popular with accounting firms. Integra balance is an emerging accounting automation software and is quickly gaining popularity with outsourced online accounting firms for its bot-based accounting automation solution.
2. Create a referral plan
Any business benefits from word-of-mouth referrals, but accounting and tax firms benefit even more. The easiest approach to encourage recommendations is via a referral program that rewards customers for referring you to new businesses. For each referral, existing customers can receive free services or additional benefits to encourage them to reach out to their friends, family, and associates. Ideally, this could be a self-sustaining marketing strategy that gives you all the benefits without any additional marketing expense.
3. Reduce inefficient spending and outsource where necessary
Identify where you are overspending by reviewing all of your expenses. Consider operating your firm remotely instead of paying costly office rent. Accounting firms can save money by outsourcing almost all their bookkeeping, accounting and tax jobs. Many highly profitable UK accounting firms have been using outsourcing as a strategy for many years now.
Outsourcing helps your staff to spend more time with the clients, meeting them face to face and thereby creating opportunities to add more value addition, earn clients trust and possibly win more new business. There are several accounting outsourcing service providers, and you need to carefully select the right provider that will fit well for your firm.
4. Elevate your firm’s brand and perceived value
If your Outsourced accounting services are perceived as valuable, you can increase your prices. Branding and management, strategic marketing, and exhibiting thought leadership in your industry can help elevate your brand. Give your website a facelift, make it more user-friendly whether your users are checking it out from their laptops or mobile.
5. Review your current marketing strategy
Your marketing strategy can also be improved by identifying a suitable target market. Thanks to social media, reaching out to target audiences has become much easier. You might want to refresh your website’s content if you have neglected it for a long time. Consider SEO, online advertising, and social media marketing. Make optimal use of free platforms like Google My Business, directories, etc. Write blogs about accounting tips, growth hacks for business, and industry updates regularly. Use keywords to optimize your website.
6. Re-evaluate the pricing for your services
The market changes constantly, so you should always revisit your pricing. To become more competitive, you can increase your service fees or reduce them. Rather than using a set pricing model, switch to a value-based model. A new client may choose an accounting firm with lower fees.
7. Provide additional services and remove unnecessary ones
To stay competitive, it becomes crucial to provide services such as financial planning, retirement planning, bookkeeping, and payroll in addition to the basic services. This will also help you boost your revenue. Get your team trained via virtual programs/certifications in the areas of expertise you choose to add to your services. If you are providing services that are not making you any profit, it would make sense to remove them.
Implementing these 7 strategies will help you future-proof your accounting practice at least for the next decade. Now that you know how you can future-proof your accounting practice, you can put these tips into action. For your accounting outsourcing needs, check out services from Integra Outsourcing today!

PAYROLL OUTSOURCING IN THE UAE
Payroll processing is so simple to do in UAE. Can you make a mistake when choosing the right payroll outsourcing service provider to process your payroll from Dubai or Abu Dhabi? It is, unfortunately. There are a lot of payroll outsourcing companies within the UAE with varied experience and some with questionable business practices. A few services are reliable and can meet international quality standards for service.
Here are ten things you must consider during the selection of your payroll outsourcing partner procedure for the UAE:
1.    Service Scope Similar to other professional services knowing and defining the scope of payroll outsourcing services is the most crucial selection process. A reputable service provider will offer a precise definition of the scope, clearly defining your and their obligations. It is a problem if the scope of their services is contained only on one page and does not include the following areas:
.     Updates to the regulatory framework
a.    Payments and filings for statutory filings
b.    Calculations at the end of service
c.    Transfers of salary and WPS
d.    Payroll distribution and report distribution
e.    Assistance with audit
f.     Calculations made retroactively
g.    Financial accruals
h.    Management leave
2.    In-Country presence Many service providers claim they offer payroll outsourcing solutions in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, UAE, and the Middle East but do not have offices or employees in these areas. Beware of the service providers who handle your payroll but cannot assist you when an employee of the Ministry of Labor walks into your workplace.
3.    Global Payroll Network Membership Check to see if the prospective service provider is a member of a global outsourcing network. Service providers must undergo a thorough due diligence procedure before being recognized as a global network member. You’re less likely to fail when choosing a payroll outsourcing service provider who has completed this due diligence process. The company’s membership also means that you will have easy access to the world’s most extensive payroll outsourcing system if your business expands and you require payroll outsourcing outside of the UAE.
4.    Service Level Agreement – Make sure that you can confirm that the provider of service is prepared to sign an agreement on service levels that binds their charges to specific performance targets that include:
.     Payroll calculation errors: a large number
a.    Timelines for processing and payments
b.    Time to respond to questions and queries
5.    Professional Indemnity Insurance Verify that the service provider has adequate professional indemnity insurance coverage. That lets you recover any damages caused by the negligence or omission of the company, which includes any fines imposed by the government for incorrect or delayed tax or payroll calculation.
6.    Payroll software’s a bit amazing that many payroll outsourcing service providers use Excel or other third-party software to calculate the payroll. Most of the Big 4 accounting firms in the UAE manage their clients’ payroll manually or using third-party software. That means that their services are costly. Even the tiniest modifications or changes to payroll reports are not feasible or extremely expensive.
7.    Electronic Interfaces You should determine if the service provider can connect electronically with your existing software, such as:
.     Accounting Software to upload general ledger transactions
a.    HR software to download HR data
b.    Time and Attendance Software is used to download employee attendance records, i.e., overtime, absences, etc.
8.    Employee Self-Service Ask your payroll outsourcing company if they can give your employees access to an employee self-service portal and mobile apps to update their details, including requesting leave, keeping track of overtime, checking payslips, and more.
9.    Helpline Check that the service provider can access their staff members who deliver services off-hours and on weekends. Payroll is extremely sensitive to time. It is not a good idea to find yourself in a position where you have to contact the payroll outsourcing company urgently because your WPS report was rejected or the payroll calculations have to be updated. You cannot get in touch with anyone at the office of the service provider.
10.           References This is a matter of saying. Check the references of the service provider.
Outsourcing your payroll functions is likely to be one of the best options that you could do within the UAE or the Middle East in general. It can save you money and let you concentrate on other essential business activities. There’s an abundance of payroll outsourcing providers across Abu Dhabi and Dubai. But, you must be extremely cautious when choosing the best payroll outsourcing company for your company. You can find the most suitable and reliable provider if you make sure you ask the right questions during selecting.

Who will be the next Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi or Rahul Gandhi?
The political landscape of India is gearing up for a significant showdown as the country inches closer to the 2024 General Elections. At the forefront of this high-stakes contest are two prominent figures: Narendra Modi, the incumbent Prime Minister and leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Rahul Gandhi, the scion of the Nehru-Gandhi family and a key leader of the Indian National Congress (INC). The question on everyone’s mind is: who will be the next Prime Minister of India?
Narendra Modi: The Incumbent's Appeal
Narendra Modi has been a dominant figure in Indian politics since he first assumed office in 2014. His leadership style, marked by strong central control, a focus on national security, and an aggressive foreign policy, has garnered significant support. Modi’s government has initiated several landmark policies, such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the Digital India campaign, and the Make in India initiative, aimed at boosting manufacturing and infrastructure. His administration has also overseen significant improvements in India’s global standing, with Modi forging close ties with major world powers.
A key element of Modi’s appeal lies in his image as a decisive and incorruptible leader. His background as a self-made politician, who rose from humble beginnings, resonates with many Indians. The BJP’s formidable organizational structure and its ability to effectively mobilize resources and cadre support also work in Modi’s favor. Furthermore, Modi’s communication skills, particularly his ability to connect with the masses through social media and public speeches, have played a crucial role in maintaining his popularity.
However, Modi’s tenure has not been without controversy. His government has faced criticism over issues like rising unemployment, agrarian distress, and the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, his policies on Kashmir and the Citizenship Amendment Act have sparked widespread protests and international concern. Despite these challenges, Modi’s core voter base remains loyal, and his ability to navigate through controversies with strategic acumen has kept him at the forefront of Indian politics.
Rahul Gandhi: The Challenger’s Resurgence
On the other side of the political spectrum stands Rahul Gandhi, representing a party with a rich historical legacy but currently struggling to regain its former glory. Gandhi has been attempting to reposition himself and the Congress party as a viable alternative to the BJP. His campaign emphasizes social justice, economic equality, and a more inclusive vision of Indian nationalism.
Gandhi’s approach has evolved significantly over the years. Initially criticized for his perceived lack of political acumen and his sporadic engagement with politics, he has worked to shed this image by taking more consistent and assertive stances on key issues. His criticisms of the Modi government, particularly on matters such as economic policy, unemployment, and the handling of the pandemic, have found resonance among sections of the populace disillusioned with the current administration.
The Congress party under Gandhi is also making efforts to form broader alliances with regional parties to counter the BJP’s dominance. This strategy of coalition-building is crucial, given the fragmented nature of Indian politics and the importance of regional parties in securing a parliamentary majority.
Nevertheless, Gandhi faces significant hurdles. The Congress party’s internal divisions, organizational weaknesses, and the erosion of its traditional voter base are major challenges. Additionally, the BJP’s relentless campaign to project Gandhi as an inexperienced and ineffective leader has affected his public perception.
In conclusion, predicting who will be the next Prime Minister of India is fraught with uncertainty. Narendra Modi’s position as the incumbent gives him a significant edge, but Rahul Gandhi’s efforts to revive the Congress and build a broader coalition cannot be underestimated. The 2024 elections promise to be a defining moment in Indian democracy, reflecting the country’s complex and evolving political landscape.

How to Choose the Best International Package Service for Your Needs
In today's globalized world, sending packages across international borders has become a common necessity for businesses and individuals alike. Whether you're an e-commerce business owner looking to expand your market or someone sending a gift to a friend abroad, choosing the right international package service is crucial. With numerous options available, making the right choice can seem daunting. This guide will help you navigate through the key factors to consider to ensure your packages arrive safely, on time, and within budget.
1. Determine Your Shipping Needs
Before you start comparing different services, it's essential to understand your specific shipping needs. Ask yourself the following questions:
What is the size and weight of your package? Different carriers have varying limits and pricing structures based on these factors.
How quickly does the package need to arrive? Some services offer expedited shipping options for an additional fee.
What is the destination country? Certain carriers have better networks and reliability in specific regions.
Is the package fragile or valuable? You might need additional services like special handling or insurance.
2. Compare Shipping Rates
Cost is a significant factor in choosing an international package service. Use online shipping calculators available on carrier websites to get an estimate of shipping costs. Consider the following:
Base rate: The primary cost based on weight, size, and destination.
Additional fees: Look for any extra charges for fuel surcharges, handling fees, or customs duties.
Volume discounts: If you ship frequently, some carriers offer discounts for bulk shipments.
3. Check Delivery Times
Timely delivery is often critical, especially for business shipments. Compare the standard delivery times for various carriers. Keep in mind:
Express services: If you need fast delivery, check if the carrier offers express or next-day services.
Standard services: These are generally more cost-effective but take longer.
Delivery guarantees: Some services offer money-back guarantees if the package doesn't arrive on time.
4. Review Reliability and Reputation
A reliable carrier ensures that your package arrives safely and on time. Research the reputation of the carriers you are considering:
Customer reviews: Read reviews and testimonials from other customers to gauge their experiences.
Service reliability: Check for any history of lost or damaged packages.
Customer support: Ensure the carrier has robust customer service to assist you in case of issues.
5. Understand Customs and Duties
International shipments often involve customs regulations and duties, which can affect the overall shipping process:
Customs clearance: Some carriers handle customs clearance on your behalf, which can save time and hassle.
Duties and taxes: Be aware of potential duties and taxes that may apply in the destination country.
Documentation: Ensure you provide all necessary documentation to avoid delays.
6. Evaluate Tracking Capabilities
Being able to track your package in real-time provides peace of mind. Look for carriers that offer comprehensive tracking features:
Real-time updates: Check if the carrier provides real-time tracking updates through their website or mobile app.
Notifications: Some services offer email or SMS notifications for status updates and delivery confirmations.
7. Consider Insurance Options
For valuable or fragile items, insurance is a crucial consideration:
Coverage options: Review the insurance options offered by the carrier and the cost involved.
Claim process: Understand the process for filing claims in case of loss or damage.
8. Assess Additional Services
Depending on your needs, you might require additional services such as:
Pickup services: Some carriers offer pickup services from your location, which can be convenient.
Packaging supplies: Check if the carrier provides packaging materials and advice on how to pack your items securely.
Special handling: For delicate or hazardous items, special handling services might be necessary.
Conclusion
Choosing the best international package service involves careful consideration of various factors including cost, delivery time, reliability, and additional services. By understanding your specific needs and thoroughly comparing different carriers, you can ensure that your packages are delivered safely, on time, and within your budget. Remember, the right carrier not only delivers your package but also provides peace of mind with reliable service and excellent customer support.
