Hanstholm Wildreservat - das Wildschutzgebiet Hanstholm

Wir befinden uns im Hanstholm Wildreservat und damit im nördlichsten Teil des Nationalparks Thy. Mit einer Fläche von fast vierzig km² ist das Wildschutzgebiet von Hanstholm die grösste zusammenhängenden Dünenheide in Dänemark.

Die Landschaft im Hanstholm Wildreservat Isbjerg ist mit 56 Metern über dem Meer der höchste Punkt des Wildreservats Hanstholm. Von hier aus bietet sich ein großartiger Blick über den nördlichen Teil des Nationalparks Thy. Schon vor dem 2. Weltkrieg wurden grosse Teile des Gebietes mit finanziellen Mitteln aus dem dänischen Jagdfond erworben. Schon damals wollte man einen geschützten Ort für Wildtiere schaffen und einen Teil der dänischen Dünennatur für die Nachwelt erhalten. Die Landschaft hier ist ein Mosaik aus grossen ebenen Sandflächen und mächtigen Dünenformationen. Es gibt hier viele Flachwasserseen, die oft im Sommer austrocknen. Im östlichen Teil vom Hanstholm Wildreservat liegt eine Reiher tieferer Seen. Auch der bis zu sechs Meter tiefe Blegsø gehört dazu. Wie der viel grössere Nors Sø liegt er auch als Karstsee über Kalkgestein. Ein Grossteil des Wassers dieser Seen strömt durch Risse im Kalk nach oben.

2020 brüten hier im Gebiet etwa fünf Kranichpaare. Der seltene Bruchwasserläufer ist mit rund fünzig Paaren sogar mit der Hälfte des dänischen Brutbestandes hier heimisch. Auch die Sumpfohreule und die letzten Goldregenpfeiffer-Brutpaare soll man in manchen Jahren hier finden. Fisch- und Seeadler kommen regelmässig vor. Im Herbst rasten hier tausende Grau-, Saat- und Kurzschnabelgänse. Im Winter sieht man Gänsesäger, diverse Tauch- und Schwimmenten und Singschwäne auf den Seen. Das Wildreservat beherbergt eine gesunde Population Rotwild. Die Tiere finden Nahrung in der Dünenheide und die umliegenden Plantagen und Bergkiefernbestände bieten genügend Deckung. Auch Reh, Fuchs und Fischotter lassen sich im Gebiet sehen.

Die Vegetation ist abwechslungsreicher als man auf den ersten Blick vermutet. In der trockenen Dünenheide finden wir Besenheide, Krähenbeere, Sandsegge und Flechten. In den feuchteren Senken wachsen Rauschbeere, Gagelstrauch, Glockenheide, Moosbeere und Sonnentau. In einigen Flachwasserseen kommt die Wasserlobelie vor. Zur Geschichte des Gebietes Der grösste Teil des Wildschutzgebietes ist ehemaliger Meeresboden. Die alte Steilküste liegt heute drei bis vier Kilometer von der heutigen Küstenlinie entfernt im Inneren des Landes. Besonders ersichtlich ist die alte Küstenlinie im Bereich des Sees Blegsø. Spuren von früher Besiedlung finden wir am Savbjerg und am Isbjerg. Auch aus der Zeit des 2. Weltkrieges sind Spuren zu finden.

Natur erleben im Hanstholm Wildreservat Zum Schutz der hier heimischen Tier- und Pflanzenwelt gelten für den Aufenthalt im Reservat besondere Regeln. Der Zutritt zum gesamten Gebiet östlich des Kystvejen ist in der Brutzeit vom 1. April bis einschließlich 15. Juli nicht möglich. Das zentrale Gebiet mit den vielen Seen und Feuchtgebieten ist ganzjährig gesperrt. Jedoch ist der Wanderweg zum Isbjerg jederzeit zugänglich. Hunde sind nicht erlaubt, auch nicht an der Leine. Wir haben natürlich eine Wanderung zum Isbjerg gemacht. Direkt am Ufer des Nors Sø befindet sich ein Parkplatz mit WC und einfachen Shelter. Von hier kann man den Wanderweg (gelber Pfeil auf rotem Pfahl) über den Isbjerg im Reservat wandern. Die Länge der Route beträgt rund 3 Kilometer und kann auf 1,5 Kilometer abgekürzt werden. Keiner der Wege ist behindertengerecht. Eine weitere Route führt ab Sårup im nordwestlichen Teil der Tved Klitplantage über vier Kilometer unter anderem zum Vogelschutzturm. Von hier aus hat man gute Chancen Rothirsche und Kraniche zu sehen. Besonders zur Zeit der Brunft der Rothirsche hört man dann auch das eindrucksvolle Röhren der Hirsche. Wir hatten Glück und sahen auch ein grosses Rudel dieser Tiere. Leider waren die Tiere für ein gutes Foto viel zu weit weg. Es empfiehlt sich hier ein Fernglas mitzunehmen. Auf keinen Fall sollte man Mückenschutzmittel vergessen. Besonders auf dem Aussichtsturm waren die Mücken bei unserer Anwesenheit sehr aggressiv und hungrig.   Read the full article

Do mermaids exist in tpof?

There's exactly one "Classic" Mermaid. A pregnant woman on the west coast of Ireland was afflicted by a curse where she'd give birth to a Lingcod instead of a human baby, but since she was carrying twins, the curse was split between them. One sister has a human head, chest and abdomen, and from her pelvic girdle on she has the powerful and beautiful tail of a Blue Lingcod. She's the current record holder for long-distance swimming, starred in several movies and holds multiple modelling contracts- but she's always been notably jealous of her sister, who has the head and chest of a Lingcod but the pelvis and legs of a human and (the source of her sister's ire) a devoted husband.

There's a few things that European sailors could have mistaken for human women while they were on long voyages, dying of syphilis and scurvy too- Dugong and Dolphins both exist in great numbers in TPOFATGIF, along with some very large Mimic Octopodes. But the most likely, or at least, most startling candidate is a creature only described in 1996- Ziphiius andersoni, or "Anderson's Beaked Whale", after the first ...semi-credible witness.

Ziphidae is a family of deep-diving whales whales known almost entirely by beached corpses, and Z. andersoni holds the peculiar title of the most and least seen member of the family. No body has ever been found to examine, but the animal is (apparently) the subject of many amateur sightings.

Like most Beaked Whales, Z. andersoni is about 13 feet long, and shaped like an extremely hydrodynamic sweet potato- a sharply tapered head, tubular body with small pectoral fins and a minimal dorsal fin, and an similarly sharply tapered tail with small fins, and a mouth with only two teeth- a pair of overdeveloped lower canine teeth that form a pair of tusks. Unlike most marine life, Z. andersoni has reverse Cryptic camouflage- where most marine animals are darkly colored on the dorsal side and pale beneath to hide from predators in the open water, Z. andersoni has a large, bright white pattern on it's back that starts at the head and runs the length of it's spine and across the tail fin, and includes both pectoral and pelvic saddle patches. between the whale's darkened and unusually anterior blowholes and the gloom of the twilight waters they inhabit, Z. andersoni's peculiar markings bear a STARTLING resemblance to a human woman with a piscene tail.

The species is named after the famed Fairy Tale Author, Hans Christen Anderson, who in 1835 saw what he described as a "Mermaid" swimming near the surface of the North Sea coast near Hanstholm, Denmark, when out in a rowboat with a cousin on a summer holiday. The Mermaid was "Ghostly pale, with large, dark eyes that stared up at us as she passed. She circled the boat thrice, seemingly regarding us with sadness, before she vanished into a cloud of sea-foam and we could not find her again." This encounter inspired him to write The Little Mermaid the following year. Despite his and his cousin's insistence that the event took place exactly as described, it was largely written off by the general public, and Anderson was discouraged from sharing it by his publisher.

In 1996, a family had a similar experience while Kayaking, save that this time the encounter took place in the sunny clear waters off Baja, Nihofornia, and the family had a video camera. A juvenile Z. andersoni approached them, circled the family a few times and even hung out under them for almost 12 minutes. This video proof sparked international interest, with dozens of other pictures, videos and oral accounts coming forward about encounters with these strangely friendly yet elusive creatures.

Most Recently, an exceptional individual, thought to be an old bull from it's size (i and scarring was seen following underwater welders as they repaired an underwater naval installation, picking off the curious squid that came to investigate the lights. The Naval Engineers have nicknamed the animal "The Duke", short for "Ducolax" on account of one of the engineers realizing there was 16-foot long, multi-ton carnivore floating just over his shoulder and (understandably) shitting himself.

Spot an! Für das Firewire Hydroshort.

Erstens, weil es von der ersten Sekunde an St. Peter Ording unter Dauerfeuer gesetzt hat. Und zweitens, weil dieses Board in Deutschland unter dem Radar läuft und etwas Rampenlicht verdient.

Das Setup: Hätte ich nicht die Möglichkeit gehabt, das Board vorher zu testen, hätte ich wohl mit meinen 100 kg zum 5.8er gegriffen. So ist es das 5.6er geworden – genau die richtige Entscheidung. Dazu gibt es die schnellen Reactor Finnen von FCS. Entgegen der Gewichtsempfehlung fahre ich die Finnengröße M, mit der ich auf anderen Boards schon gute Erfahrung gemacht habe. Als Kite gab’s den 8er Neo SLS. Dies ist bewusst kein Leichtwind Setup, aber wer will schon Leichtwind. Welle gab’s am Testtag auch – klein bis mittelgroß – was genau die Range abdeckt, für die das Board geshaped wurde.

Von oben sieht das Board mit der runden Schnauze ein wenig aus wie eine Knolle, was ihm auch den lieb gemeinten Spitznamen „Kartoffelboard“ eingefahren hat. 

25.5 Liter Volumen bei dieser Länge ist schon recht üppig und machen das Board knuffig - die Fahrleistungen sind jedoch alles andere als pummelig.

What?!?…. Hatte ich das Board mit Flutschi eingeschmiert? Nur wenige Boards stürmen so los, wie dieser Tomo Shape. Vom ersten Moment an geht das Hydroshort nach vorne und erreicht eine ungeahnte Geschwindigkeit. Ich denke dies Board ist das Schnellste, was ich bisher unter den Füßen hatte. Wow, was für eine Rakete. Ist es wirklich nur ein 5.6er? Ich vermisse keinen Zoll Länge. Agilität pur, in allen Belangen. Rauf auf die erste Welle und schon merkt man, dass der Shape genau für diese kleineren Bedingungen gedacht wurde. Der Wellenschub wird sehr gut mitgenommen und man kann leichtfüßig mit der Welle spielen. Mit minimaler Kitepower wird’s superschnell, man kann aber auch das Tempo heraus nehmen, ohne das die Kartoffel ins stocken gerät. Das Hydroshort dreht supereng auf dem Face und zischt dann zügig durch den Bottom Turn. Kein Steckenbleiben, kein Hakeln – butterweich. Wieder zurück gelingt ein gesnappter Turn einfach und kontrolliert. 

Das Board läuft wie alle Tomo Shapes erstklassig Höhe. Halsen werden mit etwas Kitezug einfach durchglitten. Kein Abwürgen, so soll es sein. Dabei steht der hintere Fuß konstant auf dem hinteren Pad und muss zu keiner Zeit nach vorne gesetzt werden. Man sollte nur immer schön das vordere Bein belasten, wie es sich beim Wellenreiten gehört.

Maximaler Spaß für alle Fahrer, der auch mit kleinen Bedingungen High Speed shredden wollen, Wind vorausgesetzt. Dabei sollte man schon etwas Fahrkönnen mitbringen, denn die Agilität ist auch eine Herausforderung. Das Board fühlt sich extrem loose an, Kabbel wird nicht immer weggebügelt, besonders wenn am Fuß der Welle Kabbel wartet, wird es etwas wackelig. Das Board kann eben doch nicht alles, aber vieles kann es verdammt gut. 

Wer andere Boards von Firewire schon gefahren ist, wird auch dieses Board mögen. Es gleitet genau so gut wie das Evo, denn das Unterwasserschiff ist sehr ähnlich mit den Tomo Channels versehen  – hat jedoch deutlich bessere Wave Qualitäten durch das schmalere Heck und mehr Volumen unter dem vorderen Fuss. Wie bei allen Boards von Firewire ist auch das Hydroshort erstklassig verarbeitet. 

Wer kiten kann, wird das schnelle Hydroshort lieben. Anfänger könnten eine Nummer größer wählen, dann passt es wieder. Für absolute Beginner gibt es aber bessere Boards.

Für mich ist das Board eher ein Zweit-Board - für viel Spaß bei ordentlich Wind und mittleren Wellen - für die ganz großen Tage z.B. in Hanstholm braucht man zusätzlich etwas passendes mit mehr Kontrolle in großen Wellen.

So, und jetzt geht es rauf auf’s Wasser.
