WHEW i've had an exhausting few weeks but things are finally calming down and i can devote time back to my beloved little dudes again. i have a longer fic i'm working on for spooky season but it's also HALLOWEEN PROMPT FILL SEASON once more!! here's an old old one I never got around to filling

"I am not," Hermann says, "as easy as you seem to think I am."

Newt's not sure what's more disconcerting here: hearing someone outside of, like, 1950 refer to themselves as easy, or Hermann apparently worrying that Newt might apply that word to him, in the lust-inspiring glory of his sweatervest, baggy wool slacks, stiff collar, daintily crossed ankles, the twelve inches he's left between them, and the full-body shudder of displeasure he gives whenever Newt makes the mistake of looking in his direction. And worrying about it so bad he had to reach over and pause the movie to make sure Newt had his full attention before making the declaration. Yeah, easy, that's sooo Hermann. He wouldn't even take off his shoes before he got on Newt's bed, because it would've been quote-unquote too intimate. What a harlot.

"I literally have no idea what you're talking about," Newt says. "Am I missing some, like, signals? Is this some sort of Gottlieb mating ritual?" The only thing Hermann has done all night is snap at Newt for burning their popcorn in the microwave (among a host of other offenses, ranging from breathing too loudly to keeping the brightness on his computer too high). Newt thinks he would've noticed if Hermann was suddenly fluttering his eyelashes or taking off his shirt or something. Actually, if Hermann considers picking fights easy behavior, then Newt suddenly has a whole lot of their relationship to reassess here. As in, all of it. Maybe arguing is part of the complex intricacies of Gottliebian mating rituals, the rest of which involve unstylish haircuts and submitting HR complaints. Newt should pay closer attention to these sorts of things.

"No," Hermann snaps. "I am referring to your invitation, which was clearly a pitiful attempt to seduce me, and my subsequent acceptance thereof, which was against my best judgement and that I began to regret almost immediately." He folds his arms across his chest and scowls at Newt. It's not as intimidating as he clearly hopes it'll be, because there's a decent amount of burnt popcorn crumbs clinging to the front of his sweater, and his glasses are crooked.

"I'm not trying to do anything but watch a movie, dude," Newt says.

"Oh, yes, for now," Hermann says. "But soon enough you'll be so terribly frightened that you'll need to turn to me for comfort, and then one thing will lead to another, and then—" He shakes his head darkly. "I can assure you now that will not be happening, despite any efforts to the contrary. Feign your fear all you wish."

That's the problem with trying to be anything but a mortal enemy to Hermann—the guy's always gotta act like Newt has some sort of dark, mysterious, ulterior motive going on. Cups of tea always have to be deliberately brewed too bitterly with too much milk (instead of just, y'know, the shop Newt went to messed up his order), invitations for excursions into the city or late night talks on the Shatterdome roof are trying too hard to make up for whatever Newt's crime against him of the week is. Hermann can never just accept kindnesses from Newt at face value. Technically, Newt supposes he did have a slight ulterior motive in inviting Hermann over for spooky movie night tonight that verged beyond selflessly giving Hermann a social life into self-serving, but he's been literally upfront about it from the start. And it has nothing to do with getting a hand under Hermann's four layers, thank you. "I want to watch this new movie," he said earlier in the lab, while Hermann eyed him suspiciously, "but it's supposed to be scary as shit, so I don't want to do it alone." If it gives him nightmares, then at least he'll have someone to commiserate with.

Newt's not sure whether he prefers Hermann to see him as a big baby or a skeezeball. Big baby is worse, maybe—at least the alternative means Hermann thinks he's, like, at least mildly suave and a mega-pro at seducing grumpy mathematicians. But it all also raises a very important question. "If you knew I was gonna try to seduce you, then why did you come over?" Hermann was being pretty quiet about everything, up to and including when Newt told him to make himself at home on his bed, until now.

Hermann coughs, and mumbles out something about not having anything better to do with his time, then something else about Newt having wily machinations. "Let's finish the damned movie," he says.

Though Newt's chosen to let Hermann believe he's speeding down the skeezeball route tonight, that doesn't actually change the fact that Newt is, at heart, kind of a big baby—but also only when it comes to sooome horror movies, because he's usually really awesome and punk about these things, and you don't cover yourself in tattoos if you don't have a high tolerance for discomfort, and Newt was watching monster movies before he had object permanence. Unfortunately Newt is not currently covering himself in tattoos or dealing with his dad's admittedly questionable age-appropriate media decisions, but rather curled up in a sweatshirt and watching an evil spooky ghost slash through teenagers like nothing on his laptop with Hermann. The reviews weren't wrong about the realistic special effects. Newt makes a small noise that's definitely not a groan and turns his face away, just a little bit. "I don't understand why you enjoy subjecting yourself to rubbish like this," Hermann says. He's wrinkling his nose. Newt thinks the fiery power of Hermann's disdain could stop the homicidal movie ghost right in its tracks, which strangely makes him feel a little better. "We could be watching an infinite number of other much better films."

"Great idea," Newt says. "K-science movie night, every Friday. You can make the popcorn and choose the flick next time, I'll order pizza." Pizza sounds great right now. He should have dragged Hermann out into the city for pizza night and drinks at the worst bar he could find and made him eat something for dinner with nutritional value for a change (well, okay, in terms of comparison to the scalding tea and toast he usually has for dinner, a pizza is like a damn salad bar), not lured him into his messy bunk for a scary movie night neither of them are actually feeling. Maybe it's not too late to change their plans. There are probably still a few 24/7 delivery stragglers out there in a city this big that haven't yet succumbed to being stomped on by kaiju. "Is that guy still getting chainsawed?"

"No," Hermann says. He looks up at Newt's laptop screen quickly—he'd been distracted, picking crumbs off his sweater—and corrects himself, only just audible over the whirring of the ghost's chainsaw. Not a very creative weapon of choice for a slasher. Chainsaws are kinda been there done that, Newt thinks. "Er. Yes. This has been a rather prolonged death scene."

"Yeah, dude, no shit," Newt says. He tucks his head in against Hermann's shoulder, because it's not like Hermann can possibly think any less of him right now, and he's relieved when Hermann acquiesces to the touch and doesn't boot him across the room. Hermann's sweater smells kinda weird, like he left it out in the rain and didn't bother washing it after it dried. It's still soothing to be this close to him. Ugh, not that Newt would ever, ever admit that out loud, how embarrassing.

"I told you your charms are not going to work on me, Newton," Hermann sniffs, even as he gives Newt's shoulder a pat, and then something, bewilderingly enough, that Newt might call a reassuring squeeze. He doesn't move his hand afterwards. "No matter how pathetic you look right now."

"Thanks? Um, I think?"

Something particularly gnarly must happen on screen, because Hermann suddenly winces and drops their popcorn bowl, sending the remainder of it (mostly vaguely salty kernels) scattering across the floor. He reaches out and angles Newt's laptop screen down, just a centimeter from being shut entirely. A slasher-chainsawing-ghost victim screams their heart out through the muffled speakers. Hermann closes the laptop the rest of the way. "I think we ought to pick something else," he says.

"Sounds great," Newt says.

FINALLY managed to "fix" my problem, had to update the AMD Drivers apparently (???).

Game is running smoothly now, BUT the computer's fan is now kinda going to town on him, gaining its charateristic loud noise + burning temperature combo.

Playing as Veronique Gawain (Which is, technically, a Breton Name? Mostly done to test the Lucien standard names, and guess what, he DOES call me Veronique at times!), Witch (obviously, only magic characters in my Skyrim).

She's distantly related of the current queen of Wayrest, the one we meet in TES Legends and we help ascend to the throne.

Her mother is the 3rd daughter of a noble currently going against King Barynia of Wayrest (Also from TES Legends), but is also his 4th cousin twice removed, and was particularly strict with his 4 daughters, trying to locate them onto advantageous positions within Wayrest and High Rock society.

Of the 4 daughters, the second ended up becoming a high ranking member of the Bretony Church, fighting tooth and nail against Barynia attempt to imperialize the faith via the Corrupt Order of the Hour. Watch out for her, she's important later.

Veronique's mother was supposed to marry into a political ally's family, to strenghten their bonds, but is not really into all this political intrigue thing, she'd be happier if they left her alone with her books and sone magic, trying to get back the arts that have been lost to time and the oblivion crisis...

But her father is a dick so she has to marry some dude, and Veronique's Mother, Armida the name, is still bummed about it, but thinks of a surefire way to get out of the whole deal.

So, Armida is weird, she's a weirdo, have you ever seen her without that stupid familiar on her shoulder? No. She also has, like, no friends, because she doesn't really have the time for it, too busy mixing potions and summoning dremoras and wondering why is their face so black Compared to their whole body.

Anyway, since noble life is a burden, and despite the fact she's gona miss her sisters, she decides to fake her death. She goes in the garden to "pick flowers," and prepares her death with a dusfigured body and some blood, skipping kingdom into Daggerfall.

There, she lives in peace for a couple years, even meets a kind young man, a classic Girl meets Ork tale, they become friends, her second friend after her wretched crow, much later she gives a try at the whole married life with him, she mostly appreciate the fact he seems completely fine with her hectic work hours and shit, it all goes fibe untill some of her father's men from Wayrest come into town and recognize her.

They assume the orc kidnapped her, so gather some racist bretons and the town guard, go to their witch cottage in the woods, break down the door in the night and set fire to it. Classic shit, Ork dies trying to stop them, never much for fighting or getting angry, Armida is brought back kicking and screaming to Wayrest, realizing later on she ended up gettinv pregnant by some weird twist of fate.

Her father expects her to get back into the old political intrigue life, but she doesn't, the taste of freedom too strong now, and not wanting for her daughter to become just another pawn, so she opens a portal to the Ashpit, as you do, PREGANANT to quote the sacred texts, and DEMANDS her hisband back to Malacath.

Malacath, god of outcasts, goes "Oh, Okay, sure, fine by me, I'm too old for this shit."

So, the Orc becomes the Green Knight, a spectral green knight guarding Armida for eternity, bond by undying devotion, and who gets pegged. He tears her father in half, her eldest sister becomes head of the household, poisons her own political husband, and takes control of the situation.

She gives free rein to Armida and her spectral husbando, who just locks up in her new mage tower and doesn't disturb anyone. They have Veronique, who is spoiled rotten by her grandmother, aunts and parents, and lives a long and happy childhood.

They survive the Pirate Attack of 4E 188 seemingly unscathed, the Order of the Hour and the Dark Brotherhood failing as a result, leaving the Bretony Chantry to fulfill the power vacuum. Veronique is interested in magic like her mother, but she has s passion for religion and lore, the tales of the knights, their ancestors, elven and men, their histories.

Most of all, she wants to live their adventures. She, much like Lucien, is a Nerd seeking answers away from home, seeking what their ancestors never managed to find, seeking...

The much fabled Grail of Bretony (Imperious Races Mod). Their ancestors died trying to bring the Grail back to Wayrest, but she will succeed where they failed.

Tales of its location have begun to crop up. Most of them indicate Skyrim, a province rich with unexplored ruins and deep lore, artifacts and myths, forgotten and cosmological magic, of ghosts and automatons...

The Second Sister, her favorite aunt, priestess of Mara, is however the only one who knows this. The family, her parents, only know she's going to Skyrim on a pilgrimage, to visit the temples of the 3 chief dieties of Northern Mythology, Kyne, Dibella and Mara, to get in touch with her human roots or some shit.

Her Aunt, however, is helping her in her quest. She will be escorted to Riften, to the temple of Mara, to get directions on how to acquire her favour, and where her escort will conveniently lose sight of her. Lady Mara has given her aunt a vision of a blue khajiit, hiding nearby, that will give his life for hers, a good, faithful bodyguard in her travels, and some lead on the position of the grail, sonewhere in Falkreath Hold, suggesting to check on the local tavern for clues.

There she meets Inigo, Lucien, and news of a museum, opening up in Solitude, seeking treasure hunters and explorers, the perfect way to gain some coin and have an excuse to seek out ancient artifacts and knoweledge...

But seeling knoweledge open many a door in someone's inner mind, and her relationship with the gods has always been... academical at best, so, when she started finding pages of strange books, peppered on the corpses of those who wish her harm, as forbidden knoweledge starts flooding her mind, she wonders nust who might be responsible for this, the sudden desire to snatch people bones and turn them into soldiers growing stronger...

And Herma-Mora waits, secure in his new, fallen disciple, and her skill in finding a way to get to him.

Also her mother bastard familiar is there for some reason, maybe she knew her daughter better than anyone and knee she was up to something, she doesn't mind even if her talons are kinda digging onto the flesh of her shoulder through her robes, BUT she helped her find her own familiar!

A specteal, demonic dog called Styx, a puppy, ready to grow into her own fierce protector, abandoned by her old master near the Lady's stone, another step in her journey.

(From Falkreath, she has gathered 4 doomstones where near, Lady and the 3 Guardians, and she assumed the Grail, given the historical importance of the sites, might be located near any of the 13 doomstones. She finds her Familiar and a Dilapidated old temple with some daedric and aedric altars instead).

‘Nummer Onbekend’, het vierde nummer van het titelloze debuutalbum ‘Joseph Ignatz’ gaat over de twijfel over het wel of niet opnemen van de mobiele telefoon als er gebeld wordt met een afgeschermd nummer.

Dat het mijn laatste avond als ingezetene van de gemeente Kerkrade werd had ik ook niet verwacht toen ik mijn goddelijk, prachtige, halve Labrador aanlijnde voor een stevige (vroeg -) avondwandeling. Altijd dezelfde route. Ik stak voor mijn driehoog-woning de weg over, tussen de afvalcontainers door, grasveldje over en dan de kop naar links, rechts en nog een keer naar links en oversteken. De Dominiale Mijnweg. Vlak voordat ik mijn goddelijk, prachtige, halve Labrador aanlijnde opende mijn onderbuurman Bernd zijn deur van zijn appartement.

‘Joseph, heb je het al gezien?’, vroeg hij.

‘Nee Bernd, ik heb het nog niet gezien,’ zei ik, hopende dat het gesprek niet te lang zou duren.

‘Die rode Alfa Romeo hier voor de deur,’ zei Bernd.

‘Goh, ik heb toen ik aankwam wel een rode auto zien staan. Van merken heb ik niet zo veel verstand,’ zei ik.

Achter hem liet zijn vrouw, Peggy, een blauwe theepot uit haar handen vallen. Ze zei ‘wauw’. Bernd kreeg er ogenschijnlijk niets van mee. Kort keek Peggy onze kant op. Ik knikte vriendelijk. Ze keek alsof ze frontaal in botsing was gekomen met een lantaarnpaal.

‘Die meid van hier boven heeft er ene,’ zei Bernd en Peggy liep de keuken in.

‘Oh, leuk voor haar,’ zei ik.

‘Die van die Alfa Romeo. Heb je hem al gezien?’

‘Niet dat ik weet.’

Ik was net buiten en toen kwam puppy Floris aangerend. Mijn goddelijk, prachtige, halve Labrador reageerde, zoals altijd, enthousiast, en ze sprong puppy Floris ondersteboven. Ik maakte haar los en ze rende achter puppy Floris aan die terug rende naar haar bazin. De bazin, laat ik haar de titel Herma geven, liep verderop in de straat, zwaaide en kwam onze kant opgelopen. Puppy Floris is al lang geen echte pup meer, maar toen ik puppy Floris en Herma voor het eerst tegenkwam had Herma het de hele tijd over puppy Floris. Herma noemde hem Floris. Ik noemde hem puppy Floris.

‘Oh ze zijn toch zulke goede vriendjes,’ zei Herma tegen mij.

‘Zeg, ben je morgenochtend thuis? Ik heb tijd,’ zei ik.

‘Nee, het gaat niet meer Joseph. Hij vermoedt iets,’ zei Herma.

Ik riep mijn goddelijk, prachtige, halve Labrador en ik lijnde haar aan.

‘Sorry Herma, ik ga een lange wandeling maken en daarna moet ik nog wat dingen doen. Ik heb niet zo veel tijd,’ zei ik.

‘Kom Floris,’ en ze liep weer terug.

Herma maakte geen lange wandelingen.

‘Rijmen op haar naam kan ik beter niet doen in het bijzijn van haar man. Herma zelf heeft daar niet zo’n probleem mee, maar ja, ze moet toch altijd wel om mij lachen. Dat dan weer wel,’ dacht ik en ik stak de Dominiale Mijnweg over.

Bij de stoplichten, de weg naar de Plus in Bleijerheide, kwam ik hondje Carlos en zijn bazin tegen. Ze zag me, het stoplicht stond op groen, maar ze stak niet over omdat ze even met mij wilde praten.

‘Carlos heeft nog altijd last van zijn oortje. Ik ben voor de zoveelste keer bij de dierenarts geweest en heb nu een nieuw zalfje meegekregen. Volgens de dierenarts zou dit zalfje echt moeten helpen. Het is wat sterker dan de vorige zalfjes. Als dit niet helpt heb ik echt een probleem. Dan weet hij het ook niet meer,’ zei ze.

‘En opereren.’

‘Nee, dat is geen optie. Het schijnt vrij gevaarlijk te zijn om de oren te opereren. Ook omdat het in het oor zit. Het risico is te groot dat het nog slechter zal gaan.’

‘Wodkaatje?’

Ze liep door. Carlos met zijn neus over de stoep. In de richting van de Plus in Bleijerheide.

Ik liep door. De Dominiale Mijnweg af. Helemaal rechtdoor. Tot de rotonde. Die stak ik dan over. Het trapje naar beneden. Mijn goddelijk, prachtige, halve Labrador liet ik los. Daaronder. Daar was een slootje. En weg was ze.

Ik dacht net aan Herma’s rode bankstel, in de woonkamer, aan de voorkant, het raam, de gesloten luxaflex en haar verschrikkelijke bruine, massieve, stenen tafel voor de koffie, hapjes en drankjes die voor het bankstel stond, toen mijn mobiele telefoon over ging. Herma had mij verteld dat haar man, laat ik hem de titel Wilco geven, hij had een drukke baan, deed iets in computers, elke avond, na het avondeten, zijn blote, stinkende voeten op de tafel liet rusten. Wilco had nogal last van zweetvoeten, deels veroorzaakt door een champignon-allergie, maar hij was gek op champignons en at ze het liefst elke dag. Ik keek op de display. Het was een Nummer Onbekend. Ik nam op.

‘Hallo met mij,’ en ik herkende de stem.

Het was mijn huisbaas.

‘Ik ben het zat. Ik heb wat mannetjes geregeld en jij hebt een probleem,’ zei hij.

Ik verbrak de verbinding.

Denkend aan allerlei soorten mannetjes liep ik verder.

Ik zat op mijn stoffen, bruine, drie-zit en mijn goddelijk, prachtige, halve Labrador, lag met haar kopje op mijn schoot. Ik rookte een dikke. Een blik Hollandia in mijn linker. Een blonde dame van SBS6 stelde mij een vraag.

‘Wie is toch die voormalige zwarte voetballer die ook reggae liedjes zong?’

Het duurde even voordat ik er doorkwam. Maar, ik had geluk. Ik kon vijftig Euro verdienen.

‘James Bond,’ en ik hoorde mijn stem op SBS6.

Ik hing op.

‘Kom meisje, we gaan maar weer eens verhuizen,’ zei ik tegen mijn goddelijk, prachtige, halve Labrador.

Ik klom op mijn witte tafel, hurkte en kakte een harde keutel.

‘Het kaartje, niet vergeten,’ zei ik en ik stak een door mij geschreven wit kaartje in de harde keutel.

‘Aan de mannetjes. Ik ben even weg. De groeten, 007.’
